00:00Hey, Shalom brothers and sisters, welcome back. I thank you again for joining me today.
00:05Today I want to do a little introduction to the book of Micah, the prophet himself.
00:11It's a little book and I'm sure you guys have learned something from it.
00:16You've probably read some chapters and verses in it, but this is the background of the book
00:21and I'm just here to educate. So anyways, let's get on with it.
00:27First, it's a composition date here. It says, while the exact date of this book is debated,
00:33scholars generally agree that Micah prophesied during the 8th century, sometime between 686
00:41and 750 BCE, before the Common Era. Now here's about the author. Beyond a quick reference in
00:51Jeremiah chapter 26 verse 18, stating that Micah prophesied during the reign of Hezekiah
00:58regarding Jerusalem's destruction. All remaining information regarding this prophet comes from
01:04this book. He was from the town of Moresheth, located in southern Judah, and prophesied during
01:14the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz, and Zedekiah, kings of Judah. You can find that also in chapter 1,
01:22verse 1. Here's the background. It says, this book is the sixth of the 12 minor prophets, which
01:31minor, it doesn't mean less meaning, you know, less meaning. It's just, it's a little book. It's only got a few
01:39chapters compared to the major prophets. Micah, a name meaning, who is like Yahweh, prophesied to both
01:49Judah, the two southern tribes, and Israel, the ten lost tribes. His message begins with a judgment
01:56against Samaria, that's the capital of Israel, the northern tribes, and Judah. During the majority of
02:03Micah's prophetic ministry, he prophesied in an era of disregard and apostasy. Even though Yahweh showed
02:12mercy upon Israel by allowing her to expand her borders and experience a time of relative peace
02:18and success during the reign of Jeroboam II, neither the king nor the nation repented and returned to
02:27Yahweh. As a result of this lethargy, they were taken captive by the Assyrians in 722 to 721 BCE,
02:38which was predicted by Micah in chapter 1, verse 6. Also, of the three kings that ruled Judah during
02:49this prophetic ministry, only one, which was Hezekiah, fully committed his life to Yahweh. Because of this
02:57rebellion, Micah also prophesied of Judah's fall. That's in chapter 3, verse 12. In addition to his
03:06condemnation of Israel's sins, he also offered examples of hope. In one of the greatest messianic
03:13passages in the Old Testament, he prophesied of a time when Yahweh's mountain, symbolizing his
03:19kingdom, would reign over all nations. That's in chapter 4, verses 1 through 4. Yahweh's commandments
03:28will then go out to the entire world. So we got that there. Now, scriptural significance.
03:37Two important lessons are found in this book. Number one, there are consequences when a nation
03:44continues to defy Yahweh's word. And two, Yahweh's compassion outweighs his judgment. Even though
03:52he denounced both Israel and Judah for their rebellion, he did not leave them without future
03:59promise and restoration. So a loving, compassionate, compassionate, sovereign, Yahweh, that's just
04:07how he is. It's a little glimpse of his character. And anyways, we could be, you know, our nations
04:16are, you know, sort of like Israel and Judah. Apostasy, unbelief, all kinds of things. And it's
04:25going to be so long before Yahweh really brings down the gavel on us. But anyways, that's all I
04:35have to say right now. I hope this is really refreshing to you and educational. Please give
04:41me a big thumbs up, hit that notification bell, and also subscribe. And also, there's other videos
04:46I have. Please feel free to watch them. And that's all I have to say right now. And I thank you guys
04:53again for joining me. As always, it's a pleasure. Until we meet again, brothers and sisters, peace out
04:59and shalom.
