00:00Hey, Shabbat Shalom, brothers and sisters. Welcome back. I thank you again for joining me today.
00:04Today I want to do this book review, and this is an amazing book. It's a blow-your-mind.
00:10And I can't say enough about it. I'm glad I purchased this. I got it dirt cheap, a used book on Amazon.com.
00:18It's called The Parting of the Ways by James D.G. Dunn. He liked to be referred to as Jimmy Dunn.
00:25He's passed away, and he was probably the most top-notch New Testament scholar of his time, and now, too.
00:36People are still reading his books, you know, dissecting it. Some people criticize it. Some people don't.
00:42But it's just a great, great piece of research right here.
00:47Like I said, it's called Parting of the Ways Between Christianity and Judaism and their significance for the character of Christianity.
00:55That's like a subtitle. But it's the second edition. Here's what the book looks like, of course.
01:04It's a good book. SSCM Press published this book. This book here, the second edition here.
01:15Let's see. If I could read it correctly. 1991. Second edition here is 2006.
01:24So he added, like, he added a, I think it was another chapter in the back.
01:28An extra chapter. I forget what it's called. I think it was a Two Covenants.
01:33Yeah, it was an appendix.
01:37Two Covenants are one, the interdependence of Jewish and Christian identity.
01:41So this book, this book's, uh, pretty big. It's got, it's got notes underneath each, almost, not every page, but just, like, it's got an index on the back.
01:55But, yeah, when you're reading, you see these little footnotes down at the bottom of some of the pages.
02:00But this is an index on subjects.
02:03This, uh, this book is, uh, 410 pages long.
02:10Like I said, I got this book off of, uh, Amazon.com real cheap.
02:14There's another book of his I want to get.
02:17Uh, it's called, like, Unity and Diversity.
02:21That book.
02:22And, uh, I'm going to get it soon.
02:24But this is a, this is a, this is a book I, uh, recommended on another video, but it wasn't the book review.
02:35The book review that I did was, uh, Christology in the Making, and I started talking about this book.
02:43I started getting carried away with myself.
02:44Um, but anyways, like I said, this book, it's got no pictures in it.
02:52But, you know, it's got, uh, introduction from, uh, Professors Bear and Sanders.
03:00Uh, and then you got, uh, the other chapter, The Four Pillars of Second Temple Judaism.
03:06And after that, a chapter, Jesus and a temple for Yeshua.
03:10A temple made with hands, a temple made without hands, Yeshua, covenant, and Torah.
03:18Another chapter, Paul, and conventional gnomism.
03:23Uh, the Israel of Yahweh, God.
03:28Yeshua and the one God, Elohim.
03:32One Elohim, one Lord.
03:35Is, uh, Christianity monotheists.
03:38It's the first great Christological debate.
03:42And then you got the parting of the ways of the other chapter.
03:46And, uh, that was the last chapter there, chapter 12.
03:50But then you got, uh, like I said, the appendix, bibliography, index of biblical and ancient writings,
03:58index of modern authors, and index of subjects.
04:02So, and it's got a preface there.
04:04But, uh, this book is worth getting, and I really highly recommend this.
04:09It discusses what, what made, uh, Christianity and Judaism part ways.
04:15Was there one factor?
04:16Was there many factors?
04:18I mean, did it happen overnight?
04:19Or was it a course of decades?
04:22Maybe even a century?
04:23Uh, but this is a good read, and I highly recommend it.
04:27Uh, somebody on the, on, on YouTube, I was watching a video, and they talked about this book.
04:33I was like, I've got to get it.
04:34I've heard of Jimmy Dunn, and, uh, I read a couple others' books.
04:38Especially, you know, uh, I did a, did a, uh, video, video of the first one, the evidence for Yeshua, evidence for Jesus.
04:47That was the first one I did.
04:49And, uh, then from there, the dominoes started falling.
04:53Like I said, I got the Christology in the making.
04:55I got the parting of the ways here, and that unity and diversity book.
05:00I'm planning on getting that and reading that, and, uh, I'll do a future, uh, book review for you.
05:07But anyways, that's all I really have to say.
05:09I can't think of anything else that, uh, hope I'm not forgetting anything else.
05:13But, yeah, please get this book if you're really interested in, in what was the parting of the ways.
05:19I mean, I don't want to spoil it for you.
05:22I mean, I'm just giving you some stuff here and there.
05:24But this is very, very interesting, and I highly recommend it.
05:29And that's all I have to say right now, except, uh, please give me a thumbs up, hit that notification bell, and, uh, I can use some more subscribers.
05:36I thank you guys very much for joining in.
05:39And, uh, let me know, like I said, let me know in the comments below if you know about Jimmy Dunn, his work.
05:45This book in particular, if you've read it, or if you plan on reading it, I'd really love to hear from you guys.
