The back story about this inspired book.

00:00Hey, Shalom brothers and sisters, welcome back. I thank you again for joining me today.
00:04Today I want to do an introduction to the book of Nahum, Minor Prophet in the Old Testament.
00:12I thank you guys again for joining me. I just like to do these intros to help out best I can,
00:18educate any and all I can, the background of the book, not just the chapters and verses and the messages in them.
00:25Uh, so we'll get to it right here. Okay. It says a composition date. Uh, Nahum mentions two
00:32important events that help determine the date of his prophecy. One is the destruction of Thebes,
00:40which occurred in 663 BCE before the Common Era. The other is the imminent fall of Nineveh,
00:49which happened in 612 BCE. Based on these facts, Nahum prophesied between these dates.
00:59And the author here talks about the author. Very little is known about, about this prophet.
01:03And the only fact that seems to be agreed upon is his hometown, Elkosh. However, even this location
01:12is shrouded in a mystery. Now we've got a background here. Uh, this book is the seventh of the twelve
01:20minor prophets. And of course, the minor meaning not their message, you know, uh, but the shorter,
01:28the length of their prophecies. It's a short book. Uh, Nahum, a name meaning comfort or consolation,
01:36uh, prophesied against the capital of the Assyrian Empire, Nineveh. Even though Nineveh had earlier
01:45repented through the prophecy of Jonah, they eventually, uh, reverted to their sinful ways.
01:52Nineveh was the proudest and foolish, foolish, foolish of cities. Uh, the Assyrians were especially
02:00ruthless and barbaric. Nelson's illustrated Bible dictionary says, Archaeologists have discovered
02:07that the Assyrians were mercy, were merciless and savage people. The Assyrian army was ruthless
02:15and effective. Its cruelty included burning cities, burning children, impaling victims on stakes,
02:23beheading and chopping off hands. For Nineveh's, uh, sinful and barbaric, uh, nature,
02:28Nehom prophesied of its, uh, eventual fall in 722 BCE. Now, the significance of this scriptural
02:39significance, uh, Nineveh's relapse into sin is an object lesson of the, uh, principle found in
02:47Ezekiel chapter 18 verse 24, which teaches that if we repent and then fall back into sin, we will be
02:56judged for our, uh, uh, iniquity. It is not what we do in the beginning, but what we do in the end for
03:05which we will be accountable. Uh, Nehom says, uh, that Nineveh will be destroyed forever.
03:12Yahweh will forgive sin sincerely repented of, but will not excuse deliberate persistent sin.
03:20So that's a message we should all take heed on. Uh, but this book here only has three chapters. It's
03:27real small. It's a small, small book, but you know, he gets right to the point, right to the
03:33prophecies, the message and everything else. And, uh, I encourage you guys to read this book. Uh,
03:40if you haven't already read it and try to apply it to your life, see what the significance is between
03:46your life, this, you know, and back then, and plus, plus your countries, your nations too,
03:52how they're falling away into sin, getting, you know, falling away, far away from Yahweh and
03:57his original design. Uh, anyways, that's all I have to say right now. Sorry they're so short, but
04:05that's just how it is. Uh, please give me a big thumbs up, hit that notification bell and subscribe.
04:11I'd really appreciate that. And also feel free to watch my other videos and have more coming out.
04:18So keep your eye out for that. I thank you again for joining me till we meet again,
04:22brothers and sisters, peace out and shalom.
