00:00hey shalom brothers and sisters welcome back and I thank you again today I want
00:06to talk about Dinah daughter of Israel it's a lot of people a lot of people in
00:12the churches don't realize that Israel had a daughter named Dinah and I want to
00:16read the story about her an in-depth study about her and it's a very sad
00:23very sad story indeed we'll go to a Genesis chapter 34 and before that she's
00:31first mentioned in Genesis chapter 30 verse 21 but we'll go to the incident at
00:39hand right here 34 the reads Dinah the daughter of Leah which she bear unto
00:48Jacob went out to see the daughters of the land and when Setchum the son of
00:54Hammer the Hivite prince of the country saw her he took her and lay with her and
01:01defiled her and his soul clave unto Dinah the daughter of Jacob and he loved the
01:07damsel and spoke kindly to the damsel and Setchum spoke unto his father
01:13Hammer saying get me this damsel to wife and Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah
01:22his daughter now his sons were with the cattle in the field and Jacob held his
01:27peace until they came around and Hammer the father of Setchum went out unto Jacob
01:36to commune with him and the sons of Jacob came out in the field when they heard it
01:42and the men were grieved and they were very mad because they had wrought folly in
01:49Israel and lying with Jacob's daughter which thing ought not to be done and Hammer
01:55communed with them saying the soul of thy son Setchum longeth for your daughter I
02:00pray you give her into wife and make make your marriages with us and give us your
02:08daughters unto us and take our daughters unto you so they're trying to mix mixed a
02:14mixed multitude to trying to intermingle marriages and you shall dwell with us in
02:21the land shall be before you dwell and trade and therein get your possessions
02:26therein and Setchum said unto her father and unto her brethren let me find grace in
02:33your eyes and what you shall say unto me I will give ask me never so much dowry and
02:41gift and I will give according as you shall say unto me but give me the damsel to wife
02:47and the sons of Jacob answered Setchum and Hammer his father deceitfully and said
02:54because he that defiled Dinah their sister and they said unto them we cannot do this thing to give
03:03our sister to one that is uncircumcised that were an approach unto us but in this we will consent unto
03:13you if you will be as we be that every male of you be circumcised then will we give our daughters unto you
03:23and we will take your daughters to us and we will dwell with you and we will become one people
03:30but if you will not reckon unto us to be circumcised then we will take our daughters and we will be gone
03:38and their words pleased to Hammer and Setchum Hammer's son
03:43the young man deferred not to do the thing because he had delight in Jacob's daughter and
03:49he was more honorable than all the house of his father and Hammer and Setchum his son came to the
03:59gate of their city and communed with the men of the city saying these men are peace peaceable with us
04:06therefore let them dwell in the land and trade their own for the land behold it is a large enough
04:12for them let us take their daughters to the us as wives and let us give them our daughters only herein
04:20will the men consent unto us to for to dwell with us to be one people and every male among us be
04:28circumcised as they are circumcised shall not shall not their cattle and their substance and every beast
04:36their theirs be ours only let us consent unto them and they will dwell with us and not to Hammer and
04:44unto Setchum his son her can all that went out of the gate of his city and every male was circumcised
04:52all of them out of the gate of his city they came to pass on the third day when they were sore that two
05:02of the sons of Jacob Simeon and Levi Dinah's bigger brothers took each man his sword and came upon the
05:09city boldly and slew all the males and they slew Ammar and Setchum his son with the edge of the sword
05:17and took Dinah out of the Setchum's house and went out the sons of Jacob came up upon the slain and
05:23spoiled the city because they had defiled their sister they took their sheep and their oxen and their
05:30donkeys and that which was in the city that which was in the field and all their wealth and all their
05:36little ones and their wives they took captive and spoiled them all that was in the house and Jacob
05:43said unto Simeon and Levi you have troubled me to make me to stink among the inhabitants of the land
05:50among the Canaanites and the Perizzites and I being few in number they shall gather themselves together
05:57against me and slay me and I shall be destroyed I in my house they said should he deal with our sister
06:06as with a harlot so so it was a trick in disguise Levi and Simeon the older brothers must have loved
06:18their sister a lot and didn't want to see her defiled and humiliated like the way she was and
06:23he tricked the men to get circumcised and it takes days for him to heal up from that and while the
06:29men were sore and helpless they went in and they annihilated them they annihilated all of them and
06:37they took the spoils of war but when they came back Jacob wasn't too pleased with it because now now
06:44he was afraid that all the other uh tribes would group uh gang up on him and destroy him and his
06:51family but but after that it doesn't really say much what happened to Dinah you know I mean did she
06:59lose disrespect for what happened you know doesn't say nothing about her but she should be remembered as
07:06a child of Israel and uh I like to go back I like to go forward to 49 chapter 49 something else is
07:15important to be noted here 49 chapter uh or verse 5 through 7 this is uh you know the blessings Israel
07:26gave to his sons on his deathbed and uh he and he never he never forgot what Simeon and Levi did back
07:34then so he's making this proclamation and prophecy about Levi and Simeon's uh seed and their people
07:42their children says in 49 5 Simeon and Levi are brethren instruments of cruelty are in their
07:50habitations oh my soul come thou not unto their secret unto their assembly mine honor be not thou united
07:59for in that anger they slew a man and in their self will they dig down a wall cursed be their anger
08:07for it was fierce and their wrath for it was cruel I will divide them in Jacob or Israel and scatter them
08:16in Israel so that was a pronounce now that was what he's pronouncing was going to be a characteristic
08:23of these two brothers instruments of cruelty violence and everything it's no wonder that the
08:30tribe of Levi became the priest the Levites the priests for the temple because you know back then
08:38they were slaughtering uh goats and rams and lambs and everything they were slaughtering and bloodshed
08:44all over the place and what better tribe drive to do that you know if they were uh had cruelty and
08:51bloodthirsty but that's that's what they did and I just thought you know bringing you know
08:58mentioning mentioning Dinah the forgotten child of Israel you know it's important you know lesson
09:05learned is you know you don't matter you don't you don't mess with a a young girl because you never
09:11know how many big brothers they are in their mentality you know big brothers sometimes protect their
09:17protect their little daughter their little sisters or you know and the fathers do too but in Jacob's
09:24case he was he was a little he was troubled by the act but he's also troubled that that uh the brothers
09:31went ahead and did what they did and put them in great possible great danger you know they could
09:38have been annihilated but in fact in fact in the scripture it says that the the other tribes were
09:44actually scared of what they did they were alarmed and scared they they was on a little defensive but
09:51they didn't want to mess they don't want to mess with them they don't want to attack them or anything
