00:00Well, one of the games of the week takes place back in Alabama, Coach.
00:05Oklahoma fighting for their playoff lives.
00:08Can't afford to lose this game.
00:10They open as six-and-a-half-point road dogs to the Crimson Tide,
00:15fresh off Alabama's win over LSU.
00:17We talk about Alabama only losing one time at home in Bryant-Denny,
00:22dating back to 2020.
00:25They had a very good defensive effort.
00:26How do you feel early on, Mateer and the Oklahoma Sooners match up
00:31against this Alabama defense?
00:33Well, the Alabama defense played much better Saturday,
00:36and they are getting better and better themselves.
00:39You know, this is not just a one-dimensional Alabama.
00:42This is kind of a one-dimensional Oklahoma, too.
00:45They don't run the ball very well.
00:48And I just think Ty Simpson going against a better defense, I think, at Oklahoma.
00:53Ty Simpson is the difference maker.
00:55If you're going to be a little bit one-dimensional, which Alabama is,
00:59you better have a Ty Simpson who doesn't turn the ball over.
01:02He's going to be out there playing great every week.
01:05John Mateer isn't quite that good.
01:07So because the defense is playing rather well in Alabama,
01:11I like the one-dimensional Alabama against Oklahoma a little better than the
01:17one-dimensional Oklahoma against Alabama.
01:20And the fact that Oklahoma needs turnovers,
01:23and I don't think you're going to get any turnovers in Alabama.
01:27Coach, when you see Oklahoma and knowing schematically,
01:30they shut down Kalen DeBoer's offense with Jalen Milrow.
01:34Advantage for Brett Venables, maybe defensively entering this game?
01:38You think that's a matchup to keep an eye out on,
01:41even though it is Ty Simpson versus Milrow from last year?
01:44Yeah, I mean, there are differences in the two things.
01:48First of all, Ty Simpson, to me, he's more of an NFL quarterback
01:52that's a pocket thrower that can run smart.
01:55I think Milrow was a much better runner.
01:58I think Alabama has the big threats at wide out that can beat you deep.
02:02I just think it's a little different type of football team at Alabama this year
02:06than last.
02:07That being said, because Alabama doesn't run very well,
02:11it may catch up with them against Oklahoma.
02:12It will catch up with them in the postseason.
02:15They will not get to the playoffs running like they did last week,
02:18what, 56 yards in last week's game or 59 yards.
02:22It'll catch up somewhere.
02:24I just don't think it'll catch up with them against Oklahoma in Tuscaloosa.
