00:00Munitaka Murakami has a ton of juice.
00:03He has a ton of swing and miss.
00:05Give me the TLDR on Munitaka Murakami,
00:07and then we'll talk Bregman and Murakami
00:09and what their total money could look like.
00:11It's funny.
00:11Murakami is almost becoming like overhated at this point.
00:15You know, I think there was a point in time where everyone's saying,
00:17you know, he's the Babe Ruth.
00:18And then now if you're on X or if you're, you know,
00:22listening to some of the just the commentary about him,
00:24now it seems like he's, it's been too harsh.
00:27Like everyone's talking about his, you know, whiff and some of the numbers
00:30against 93 plus and all that stuff.
00:33They never see 93 plus.
00:34So yes, velocity can be an issue,
00:36but it's such a small sample that I really don't take a ton from,
00:42you know, numbers versus 93 plus and, and MPB when, you know,
00:48unless it's egregious, but it's not that far off from what he does.
00:51Murakami has some of the best raw power that you're going to see.
00:55And that's period.
00:56Like it's, it's some of the best raw power.
00:58And that's what I think makes him really interesting.
00:59He's also 25 years old.
01:01So when you have a guy that's 25 years old to be 26 years old at the start of
01:05the season, who's capable of producing, you know,
01:08near 80 grade exit velocities, even if he whiffs a ton,
01:13you're getting an opportunity here to get him with, you know,
01:15especially with, with the team that he picks a really good development
01:19infrastructure, some simple things to maybe clear,
01:21clean up some of the contact, you know, issues that he has.
01:25And I come, come with, I think the huge power and he elevates the ball
01:28consistently.
01:29So I think, I think the people that expect him to be, you know,
01:33a complete superstar might be a little bit ambitious,
01:35but I also think the people that think he's just not going to hit enough
01:38period are also a little bit ambitious.
01:39You put his numbers side-by-side with Otani's same age in NPB.
01:44They both had very similar deficiencies.
01:46And you could argue that Murakami's numbers are better.
01:48Otani's obviously a better hitter, but again,
01:50it's just a reminder that you've got to give these guys a little bit of leeway.
01:53That said,
01:54I'm not given $200 million to a player that needs some leeway and that needs
01:59some coaching.
02:00So that's why I think his market becomes interesting,
02:03but I am giving close to a hundred million dollars.
02:06And I think somebody will probably get more than that at the opportunity to
02:10potentially develop somebody that has the upside to be one of the best power
02:14hitters in the game.
02:15If it all does click.
02:16So a lot of,
02:17I see a lot of this stuff on social media,
02:20trying to find the mid-level comp to Murakami because the high level comp is
02:23obviously like a Kyle Schwarber, the mid-level comp are guys, you know,
02:27not the peak of his powers,
02:28but when you look at the career averages of Chris Davis in Baltimore,
02:33Chris with a C, not Chris with a K,
02:35that's the comp that people love throwing around a Mark Reynolds and Adam
02:39done a guys that's going to strike out a lot,
02:41but also hit a bunch of homers and the average is going to be low.
02:44I'm curious if you see a current day equivalent or like loose comp,
02:52and we're going to talk a Murakami that isn't Kyle Schwarber because Schwarber
02:55is obviously the a hundredth percentile outcome.
02:58He's going to swing and miss, but he's going to hit 50.
03:00Yeah, I would say, and, and, you know,
03:03I think on the like right away kind of translation,
03:08Matt Warner is the one that I just keep going back to.
03:10And I know some people might be like, Oh, well,
03:12that much money for Matt Warner.
03:15Matt Warner with room for more is kind of the point, right?
03:18Where Warner, I mean,
03:19he had 22 home runs and 103 games this past year.
03:22And you know,
03:23he's a little bit more athletic than he gets credit for,
03:25but he's going to hit the living crap out of the ball.
03:27He's going to pull a ton of homers.
03:28And the thing is, is he hits the ball a little bit harder than Warner even.
03:32So I think that's probably the closest, like, Hey,
03:35this is what I think he can be on like, you know, right away.
03:39And then you have the hope that he can blossom into, you know,
03:42Murakami can blossom into something more than that, you know,
03:45as he continues and get closer to that Schwarber threshold and everything
03:48like that.
03:48But I would say Warner is kind of the more immediate, you know,
03:52kind of comparison that I keep going to.
