00:15In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, peace be with you.
00:21We acknowledge our sins. We acknowledge God's forgiveness and his call for us to forgive each other.
00:31Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins,
00:42and lead us into healing and life everlasting. Let us pray.
00:49Lord, we pray, O Lord, that schooled through Lenten of servants and nourished by your word through holy restraint, we
00:57may be devoted to you with all our heart and be ever united in prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ,
01:04your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.
01:14A reading from the book of Deuteronomy.
01:46Moses said to the people,
01:47Keep them. Keep them. Observe them. And they will demonstrate to the peoples your wisdom and understanding.
01:55When they come to know all these laws, they will explain, no other people is as wise and prudent as
02:06this great nation.
02:07And indeed, what great nation is there that has got its gods as near as the Lord our God is
02:14to us, whenever we call to him?
02:17And what great nation is there that has laws and customs to match this whole law that I have put
02:24before you today?
02:26But take care what you do and be on your guard.
02:32Do not forget the things your eyes have seen, nor let them slip from your heart all the days of
02:38your life.
02:39Rather, tell them to your children and to your children's children.
02:46The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Praise the Lord, Jerusalem. Praise the Lord, Jerusalem.
02:54Oh, praise the Lord, Jerusalem, Zion. Praise your God. He has strengthened the bars of your gates.
03:00He has blessed the children within you. Praise the Lord, Jerusalem.
03:05He sends out his word to the earth and swiftly runs his command.
03:09He showers down snow white as wool and scatters all forests like ashes. Praise the Lord, Jerusalem.
03:17He makes his word known to Jacob, to Israel, his laws and decrees.
03:22He has not dealt thus with other nations. He has not taught them his decrees.
03:27Praise the Lord, Jerusalem.
03:31Glory to you, the word of God, Lord Jesus Christ. Your words, Lord, are spirit and life.
03:37You have the words of everlasting life. Glory to you, word of God, Lord Jesus Christ.
03:46The Lord be with you. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew. Glory to you, O Lord.
03:55Jesus said to his disciples, Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets.
04:01I have come not to abolish, but to complete them.
04:06I tell you solemnly that heaven and earth disappear.
04:10Not one dot, not one little stroke shall disappear from the law until its purpose is achieved.
04:18Therefore, the one who infringes even one of the least of these commandments
04:22and teaches others to do the same will be considered the least in the kingdom of heaven.
04:28But the one who keeps them and teaches them will be considered great in the kingdom of heaven.
04:36The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
04:39Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
04:46Jesus fulfills the law.
04:48What did Jesus summarize the law to be?
04:51Love the Lord your God with your whole heart.
04:55He didn't say have your heart.
04:56Your whole heart.
04:58Your whole mind.
05:00Your whole self.
05:01That surrender.
05:03That not holding back.
05:05Not letting fear.
05:08Low self-image.
05:11Etc.
05:11Stopping from surrendering to God.
05:14We are called to trust God.
05:16To trust God fully.
05:18And the second commandment is like it.
05:20Love your neighbor as yourself.
05:22The distinguishing marks of the Christians that they love.
05:26That they forgive.
05:27That they try to love like God loves.
05:30There's a pretty high end to aim for.
05:33And we can excuse ourselves.
05:36Because we cannot do it.
05:37Of course we cannot do it fully.
05:38But we need to try.
05:40And we need to keep trying.
05:42And that's the message of Lent.
05:45To keep trying to love.
05:47And to keep really making those moves.
05:49To break old patterns.
05:51And to be born again.
05:53To be renewed.
05:54So that our burdens can become light.
05:57And we can walk lightly.
06:06Blessed are you Lord God of all creation.
06:09For to your goodness we have this bread to offer.
06:11Which earth has given human hands have made.
06:14It will become for us the bread of life.
06:17Blessed be God forever.
06:34Blessed are you Lord God of all creation.
06:37For to your goodness we have this wine to offer.
06:40Fruit of divine work of human hands.
06:42It will become our spiritual drink.
06:44Blessed be God forever.
06:56Let us pray brothers and sisters.
06:58That my sacrifice and yours.
07:00May be acceptable to God our almighty Father.
07:03May the Lord accept his sacrifice at our hands.
07:05For the praise and glory of God's name.
07:08For our good and the good of God's holy church.
07:14Accept O Lord we pray the prayers of your people.
07:17Along with these sacrificial offerings.
07:19And defend those who celebrate your mysteries.
07:22From every kind of danger.
07:24Through Christ our Lord.
07:26Amen.
07:26The Lord be with you.
07:29Lift up your hearts.
07:32Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
07:35It is truly right and just.
07:37Our duty and our salvation.
07:39Always and everywhere to give you thanks.
07:41Lord Holy Father.
07:43Almighty and eternal God.
07:45For you will that our self-denial should give you thanks.
07:49Humble our sinful pride.
07:50Contribute to the feeding of the poor.
07:53And so help us imitate you in your kindness.
07:56And so we glorify you with countless angels.
07:59As with one voice of praise we acclaim.
08:02Holy.
08:03Holy.
08:03Holy Lord.
08:04God of hosts.
08:06Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
08:09Hosanna in the highest.
08:11Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
08:14Hosanna in the highest.
08:17You are indeed holy O Lord.
08:19The fount of all holiness.
08:20Make holy therefore these gifts we pray.
08:22By sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall.
08:26So they may become for us.
08:28The body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
08:31At the time he was betrayed.
08:33And entered willingly into his passion.
08:35He took bread.
08:37And giving thanks broke it.
08:39And gave it to his disciples.
08:41Saying take this all of you.
08:43And eat of it.
08:44For this is the chalice of my blood.
09:10The blood of the new and eternal covenant.
09:14Which will be pulled out for you.
09:16And for many.
09:17For the forgiveness of sins.
