00:00People and political organizations from Latin America commemorate 20 years of
00:15saying no to the free trade area of the Americas. In the United States people
00:24demonstrate against President Donald Trump's policies in Washington DC on
00:28Wednesday in the one-year anniversary of his presidency re-election. In Palestine
00:36the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, UNRWA, reports
00:41the worst crisis of force displacement since 1967 in the West Bank.
00:51Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Sofia Fernandes from the TELASUR studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:56We begin with the news. In Argentina, social trade unions and political organizations commemorate
01:0220 years of saying no to the free trade area of the Americas. The organizations remember the
01:08historic date when the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean stopped the FTAA project,
01:13which sought regional domination and control. During the commemoration and with the slogan for
01:19the sovereignty of the peoples against the rights and neoliberalism, attendees emphasize that the
01:24U.S. plan was not about free trade, but about free exploitation. For his part, Cuban President Miguel
01:30Díaz-Canel celebrated the occasion and urged the region to continue the struggle against the U.S. Empire.
01:44For his part, the governor of Buenos Aires province, Axel Kicillof, highlighted the role of the people of
01:49Latin America in the historic No to the Free Trade Area of the Americas project, promoted by the United
01:55States Empire.
01:58The People's Summit would not have taken place here. The No to the FDAA would not have happened
02:03if it were not for the representation. And as a result of the struggles that had been going on in
02:07Latin America for a very long time, it was the people of Latin America that defeated the FDAA.
02:12Meanwhile in Venezuela, the 20th anniversary of the No to the FDAA movement and the struggle of the
02:21peoples to confront the threats of neoliberalism and the continent is commemorative. From the
02:27Jérôme Los Gallegos Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies in Caracas, the documentary
02:31Fight Against the FDAA, Challenge of the Peoples, was screened. Venezuela remembers that thanks to the
02:38efforts of Commander Hugo Chávez, the initiative to free itself from imperial hegemony and the
02:43neoliberal measures of the Free Trade Area of the Americas was born. The documentary shows how
02:49Chávez's strategy and his union with social movements, leaders and activists in America,
02:54helped bury the FDAA with the emergence of the ALBA and maintain the resistance of the peoples.
03:08We are gathered here today to commemorate a tremendous victory that our people achieved 20 years ago,
03:18in this moment of our nation's history.
03:21Gathering together is extremely important as it brings the victories of that event to light,
03:41providing guidance and understanding that it was not just something that happened,
03:46but that it continues and is an ongoing process.
04:02A family from eastern Venezuela decided to start its own business in Parque Caixa, Miranda State,
04:19called the Granary of God. It shows that livestock and poultry production can be a source of hope for
04:25the future. We invite you to wish a new episode of Venezuela on the Move with Álvaro Fragua.
04:30A family of God was born from a family dream, a project that combines love for animals with a
04:37desire to produce healthy locally sourced food in a country where poultry consumption is increasing
04:43every year and is estimated at almost 30 kg per person. Yes, well, it all started with a dream,
04:50talking to my wife, you know, at home. Well, look, I want to do this, I want to do that, and well,
04:55we've always been motivated by animals, right? Here, quails grow free from artificial lighting.
05:01When they follow their natural cycles, they produce more than 300 eggs daily and around 8,000
05:07each month. Jesus takes care of them every day. The key, he tells us, is to keep them in peace and
05:13in tranquility. They are very calm. As long as you don't distress them out, they are calm. They are birds
05:20that you can't keep anywhere, as long as you don't stress them out. If you stress them out, especially
05:25when they are laying eggs, they stop laying. In Venezuela, quail consumption has become popular
05:30due to its high nutritional value. It contains more iron, vitamin B12, and up to 13 percent protein,
05:38a more complete option than chicken eggs. Look, the quality of the egg is 100 percent. We take great
05:44care to ensure that the bird has all the calcium it needs so that the shell becomes completely hard for
05:48transport. And well, quail eggs have a special flavor, that's for sure, but very good. You'd have
05:54to try it so you can call me and say, hey, look, sell me some too. Angeli left the city to build a
06:01new life in the country with her husband. Today, she says that the change was drastic, but that she
06:07found the peace she was looking for and a different way to raise her daughter. The change is drastic,
06:13but I really like it. It catches my attention. Living with the animals, with the birds, it's all very
06:19quiet. You feel a lot of peace. The secret, she tells us, lies in the love and dedication with which they
06:26work on each product. Work that is not only about marketing, but also about providing quality food.
06:32Yes, because everything lies in the commitment and the love that we put into it. We don't just do this for
06:38commercial reasons. We treat every egg that arrives with the utmost dedication so that people can not
06:44only eat it, but also enjoy the benefit that it brings. In a country where poultry production already
06:50exceeds 500,000 tons per year, projects such as the Granary of God brings diversification, quality,
06:57and community organization. Gabriel aspires to continue growing, strengthening farmers' council,
07:03and continuing to promote food sovereignty. Now, with the creation of what they call the peasant
07:09councils, I am one of their spokespersons, and well, we hope for the support to arrive so that we can
07:14show them who we are and what we can do, and they really see that we support them too. From Kaiser
07:21Park, the Granary of God represents an example of the new direction of the Venezuelan countryside,
07:26producing with love, respect, and community organization.
07:39And now, we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at
07:43TELOSUR English, where you will find news in different formats, news updates, and more.
07:47We'll be right back. Stay with us.
08:00Welcome back. In the United States, Washington, D.C. was the scene of a demonstration on Wednesday,
08:06marking one year since U.S. President Donald Trump's elections to be a second term in an office and
08:12celebrating the defeat of Republicans in several local elections in the past days. From the U.S.
08:17Capitol, hundreds of people gathered by the refuse fascism platform, demanding an end to what they
08:23described as the president's fascist regime, chanting slogans such as Trump must go. The day
08:29also coincide with the anniversary of Trump's victory in the November 5th, 2024 presidential elections,
08:35a day that, according to those in attendance, was the result of all of his lies. At the protest,
08:41criticism of anti-immigrant policies was the focus, emphasizing the harassment by the Trump
08:46administration and the race carried out by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement's eyes.
09:00Also in the United States, in New York, with record turnout at the polls and one of the highest in U.S.
09:05state and local elections, Democrats swept the board. Citizens voted against the violent,
09:10discriminatory and anti-immigrant and inter-federalist agenda of the Trump administration.
09:16Zahra Mandami, the young legislator who was unknown until a few months ago, became the face of victory
09:22for migrants and Muslim criminalized by the White House policies, after winning with more than 50% of
09:28the vote in New York. Likewise, the victory of Democrats Mike Scheheril and Abigail Spangeberg snatched the
09:35governors of New Jersey and Virginia from the Republicans. In addition, other victories in elections
09:41for prosecutors, courts and referendums far exceed the Democrats' 2024 results in all special elections.
09:57Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump declared Miami a refuge for those fleeing from what he called
10:02Communist Regime of New York. This statement was made at the America Business Forum held at Casillas
10:08Center in Miami, Florida, on Tuesday, after the victory of Socialist Democrat Zohar Mandami as Mayor
10:14of New York. The President acknowledged that the results were not good for the Republican Party.
10:21President Trump also attributed the loss of key places in Virginia and New Jersey to the fact that his
10:27name was not on the ballot and to the current federal government shutdown. Furthermore, Trump emphasized
10:32that he has carried out attacks against vessels in international waters in the Caribbean and the
10:37Pacific, resulting in the deaths of at least 67 people since September 2, and justified these
10:43operations as part of his work on drug trafficking.
10:52In other news, Mexican President Clyde Achenbaum followed a complaint against the men who harassed her
10:58this Tuesday outside the National Palace. The Mexican President reported that legal action was filed
11:04in Mexico City while lamenting and detailing the incident. After the harassment, the Mexican leader
11:09realized that she was not the only victim and that the accused had repeated this action against other
11:15women on the same street. He was arrested and is currently in protective custody. Sheinbaum emphasized that
11:22this incident is not solely related to her as the highest authority in the country,
11:26but to all Mexican women, to guarantee respect for women in every sense.
11:37My reflection is, if I don't report the crime, then what will happen to all the Mexican women?
11:43If this is done to the President, what will happen to all the young women in our country? Then it has to be
11:48reported to the General Prosecutor's Office of the City of Mexico, because it's a crime.
11:56Moving on to Argentina. Following the scandal over a documentary by Judge Julieta McInnacht,
12:02that forced the previous trial to be declared null and void, the court ruled on Wednesday that the
12:07new trial for the death of Diego Armando Maradona will begin on March 17th. Dimash Strait's
12:14alleged collaboration of the filming of the unauthorized documentary provisionally titled Divine
12:19Justice, which was being made in parallel and secretly. The three judges were removed and the
12:25trial was declared null and void. The trial, in which the testimony of almost 100 witnesses was
12:30recorded, was judging the host professionals charged with the death of the soccer player.
12:36McInnacht has his license as a lawyer revoked and is now facing trial for unethical conduct.

13:32Welcome back. In Palestine, the occupied West Bank is experiencing the worst crisis of force
13:38displacement since 1967, linked to Israel's military raids and Sinai settler violence.
13:45According to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, Urumah,
13:50more than 42,000 Palestinians have been forced to leave their homes since October 2023.
13:56Furthermore, Urumah denotes the alarming increase in attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinian olive
14:02farmers in the West Bank, which according to the Colonization and World Resistance Commission of
14:07the Palestinian Authority, 2,350 attacks were recorded in October 2025 alone, describing it as
14:14its continuous cycle of terror. Israeli military forces carried out 1,584 of these attacks,
14:21including physical assaults, demolitions and the uprooting of olive trees,
14:25which Zionist settlers perpetrated at least 766 attacks.
14:36Meanwhile, the Palestinian Ministry of Education reopened the historic Al-Kamayiliad School,
14:41located east of Gaza City. Gaza authorities reported that the former educational center opened its doors
14:47to welcome more than 300 Gaza students in a two-shift system, morning and afternoon. The initiative aims
14:54to meet the needs of dozens of children eager to recover their lives in the coastal enclave after
14:59years of continuous siege by Israel. On the other hand, parents demanded more places to enroll their
15:04children so that they could revive social and cultural development, despite the destruction caused by
15:10the siege. My children attended a private school. Now, due to the circumstances, the poor conditions
15:23of the roads, the lack of transportation and the need to repair and renovate the schools,
15:28we have been forced to enroll them in educational initiatives in the area, where we flew after the
15:33destruction of our homes. These initiatives have limited places. Today, I came to enroll them,
15:39but I couldn't because they were full and the space was too small to accommodate more students.
15:45For three years, we have suffered because our children have been deprived of education,
15:50but we are trying to compensate them for what they have lost.
15:57Most schools in the Gaza Strip were destroyed during the occupation. This particular school is located
16:03in eastern Gaza. Neighbors in the area suggested we use it, so we began preparing the space with the
16:09local community, who cleaned and equipped the school to start classes. There are 300 students
16:15in this school. We are working with the resources available and hope to be able to accommodate more
16:19students. Parents warned their children to return to school after an interruption of over two years
16:26due to the war. As you know, the Palestinian people have one of the highest literacy rates in the world.
16:31I couldn't return to my old school, so I came here. All our schools were destroyed. Before the war,
16:41we used to go to school, learn, play and have fun. I want to continue my studies until the end.
16:49In other news, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has warned
16:55of the intensification of hunger in Sudan due to the access restrictions resulting from armed conflict.
17:01According to the World Food Programme and the United Nations Children's Fund,
17:05cases of food insecurity and malnutrition were concentrated in the western regions of the African
17:10country. In this regard, the FAO called for an immediate ceasefire in the country to enable
17:15humanitarian aid access and ensure the protection of livelihoods and the prevention of loss of lives.
17:22Additionally, it emphasized its commitment to supporting communities where conditions permitted.
17:34Also in Africa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo,
17:37nearly 25 million people will suffer from food insecurity between September and December 2025.
17:43The Congolese Ministry of Agriculture reported that the situation will worsen in 2026 for the
17:49population due to armed conflicts, climate change and population displacement. The agency emphasized
17:54that violence in the region makes it difficult to deliver humanitarian aid due to a lack of funds.
18:00It urged an end to hostilities to facilitate humanitarian access to the most vulnerable areas,
18:05create a social protection programme and strengthen food prices control.
18:19The
18:26Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr declared a state of emergency on Thursday after Typhoon Kalmaegui
18:32left at least 114 people dead and 127 missing. Most of the victims died from drowning in flash floods,
18:40many of them in the central province of Cebu, which has been heavily affected. Before the tropical cyclone
18:47left the archipelago on Wednesday towards the South China Sea. The typhoon affected almost 2 million people,
18:54including about 450.000 villagers who were evacuated to emergency shelters. The area around the city of
19:00Cebu received 183 millimeters of rain in the 24 hours prior to Kalmaegui's impact, well above its monthly average
19:09of 131 millimeters.
19:20Meanwhile in Cuba, President Miguel Díaz-Canel visited the provinces most affected by Hurricane Melissa.
19:25During his visit, which began on the province of Santiago de Cuba, the President inspected the
19:29reconstruction work on houses and vital infrastructure damaged by the hurricane. The visit continued in
19:35the province of Granma, where the Uber Bridge was seriously affected by landslides, and where the
19:40President called for the engineering brigades to be reinforced in order to speed up its repair.
19:47On the other hand, the authorities continued to work to fully restore connectivity in the region.
19:52Hurricane Melissa caused floodings, overflows, and landslides that seriously affected roads and bridges.
