It's been 17 years since West Indies last won a T20 match in New Zealand.
And that last victory came via a super over victory at the same venue West Indies won today, Eden Park.
A feat Windies bowling coach Ravi Rampaul was pleased to see despite the challenges.

As to be expected, the West Indies were happy to open the series with a victory.
00:05
But with only four days between the Bangladesh series and this one,
00:08
bowling coach Ravi Rampol was pleased to see how quickly the players adapted.
00:12
We were very happy with our performance.
00:15
We didn't have much time here and coming and seeing how the guys,
00:19
the energy that they put on the execution that they did in the match was really commendable.
00:23
We always talk about when we go to countries to play, to adapt quickly to their conditions.
00:30
We had the one training session and we planned around what we had there.
00:36
The analysts as well give us the stats on the ground.
00:40
So we went based on the stats and our execution.
00:43
Rampol praised the skipper Shea Hooked for his vital half century,
00:46
but was pleased to see how the bowlers performed, in particular Romario Shepard, in the decisive final over.
00:53
Yeah, definitely. He's done it for us in the past.
00:57
And it's great to see that he's learning and he's making use of the opportunity.
01:02
You know, there's no hard overs, bowling the last over that even is 20 runs.
01:07
But the way he kept his calm and he executed his plans was really commendable.
01:13
We always play the matchups and which bowler is required at a certain situation.
01:18
And even though he got one over, he did the job that he needed to do in that one over.
01:24
And the rest of the bowlers did the job that they had to do.
01:26
And with the second match coming tomorrow, the West Indies are prepared for a fight back from the host.
01:31
We're very happy with this win.
01:33
And I think the last time we won was in 2008.
01:36
So we're very happy with this win.
01:38
And hopefully we take this win and continue for the rest of the series.
01:41
Definitely they're the home team and they will come fighting, obviously.
01:45
It's just for us to try to be consistent and try to execute in our plans as best as we can.
01:51
Terence Clark, Team 6 Sport.
