Joe Marino shares his thoughts on why the Bills should have added a dynamic outside receiver at the NFL trade deadline
Transcript
00:00I certainly would have liked the Bills to go get a Rasheed Shahid or Jacoby Myers,
00:04but also internally they have to look at what they have in Josh Palmer
00:08potentially coming back, Gabe Davis, yes, as a possibility,
00:13but they need to get something in there in that Keon Coleman role
00:16that's going to force teams to respect something
00:19and not jam up this offense in ways that it currently is
00:24because Keon Coleman's getting as much opportunity in snaps as he's getting.
00:27How jammed up is the offense?
00:28It's because they just scored 40 against Carolina.
00:31They scored 20 against Kansas City.
00:32So they certainly have their pathways to having good offensive days,
00:37and we know the standard is, of course, very, very high.
00:40So to use the phrase you used there, like is that a concern that certain teams,
00:45they won't be able to get around the fact that they have that problem over there
00:50on the one side?
00:52Well, you have the most prolific scoring threat in the history of the NFL
00:56playing quarterback in Josh Allen.
00:58So he's going to be able to overcome quite a bit,
01:01but I think that's exactly why I want something there
01:04because I want Josh Allen to be as dynamic as he possibly can,
01:09and that would mean having the receiver that plays the most on your team
01:15being pretty dynamic, and right now that player is not dynamic.
01:19And so I think it's the best way to maximize Josh Allen,
01:22which feels like that's important, right?
01:24It should be.
01:25I think it's the best way to help your defense.
01:27That is clearly at its best when they can force offenses to be one-dimensional
01:31and really tee off and rush the passer and allow their DBs to hunt
01:36and make plays in the ball, especially with some of the young guys
01:38that are back in the lineup.
01:39You know, that's what it comes down to for me.
01:42And so, yeah, Josh Allen has told us, he's shown us that, yeah,
01:45he can make it work pretty much with whatever receivers he has,
01:49but I think it's silly to not want, you know,
01:51something a little bit more dynamic in that spot
01:54to maximize your all-everything quarterback.
