00:00Anyway, 803-0550.
00:01I got a quick theory on the Bills for you guys if you want one.
00:05And that's this, like what makes this season so far different than other seasons.
00:09McDermott being gone is a part of this.
00:10So here's, this is it.
00:12Lay it out quickly for you.
00:14In the last however many years, you have had a good chunk of Bills fans able to identify
00:21what they would say is a fatal flaw in the team.
00:26Yes.
00:27And right now, fewer Bills fans than ever feel like they can name what that is.
00:34The last two seasons, for me, I would have said receiver is a fatal flaw.
00:38If you're a 13 seconds McDermott person, you'd say McDermott's game management is a fatal flaw.
00:44Maybe you would have said they can't get to the quarterback.
00:47There's no pass rush as a fatal flaw.
00:50Right now, if you were to try, what is it?
00:55Not to say that there won't be one.
00:57We got a lot of games to get there.
00:58And you know, the other thing people would love to say for that is the run defense.
01:03Sure.
01:04Right.
01:04Okay.
01:04Love to just say they're going to get run on.
01:08And right now.
01:09And right now the run defense is good.
01:10It is good.
01:11Maybe you'd say it's Allen's turnovers.
01:13Well, they just won a game where they turn it over five times.
01:15And we know, body of work, it's not like he has games like that all the time.
01:19They're not a team that turns it over all the time.
01:20And you're not allowed to say injury because anybody can say injury.
01:23Sure.
01:23But it's harder right now than most years because some of these fatal flaws were multi-season ones.
01:29If you thought it was McDermott game management, you lived there for four years.
01:33McDermott in the playoffs.
01:35You don't have that right now.
01:36It is harder than it's been since 13 seconds maybe to identify what their fatal flaw is.
01:43Yeah.
01:44I think the best I could do for that at this moment would be, are they going to be incapable
01:50of stopping another team's great wide receiver because they don't have a number one corner?
01:55Because Benford is looking like it?
01:58Yeah.
01:59But even that's kind of a stretch.
02:01He gets hurt in the playoffs every year.
02:02So what's the next one?
02:03That's a good point.
02:05That's even a little bit of a stretch.
02:07And honestly, I guess we could figure this out because a lot of this is about the playoffs
02:13and about January, like fatal flaw, like what's going to sink them.
02:15How many elite receivers would they play on the level of the guys they played in the first
02:22two weeks that Benford would have to go up against?
02:24That they're going to get taken out because if that is a real weak spot, that they don't
02:28have the chops to stop another one receiver.
02:30If they meet Kansas City in the playoffs, Benford is not going to have much of a challenge.
02:35He's going to cover Cyrus Allen or Worthy, I guess.
02:38We're talking Cincinnati, but he's done fairly well against Chase before, but maybe in the
02:44different scheme, it's different.
02:46He had to pick six against Cincinnati.
02:47That was a different type of play.
02:48Yes, he did.
02:49Jacksonville's got a bunch of guys that are really good, but I wouldn't say they have
02:53like a premier elite X outside.
02:55They have good receivers.
02:59Yeah, I guess that would be the best I would do, though, and I think that's probably a good
03:04indication of where they are overall is, all right, what's their fatal flaw?
03:08Like, oh, the number one corner at a couple of bad games.
03:11Everything else kind of feels like run defense is there.
03:16They did not block the Chargers great, but I don't think anybody's that concerned about
03:19their offensive line.
03:22Yeah, what is the secondary, I guess?
03:27Yeah, the defense is not.
03:27Or they just don't have one.
03:28The defense is not fully formed yet.
03:30Yeah, right.
03:30Listen, in a month, we might have our answer what it is.
03:33Right.
03:34But we've gone into seasons knowing what it is.
03:37Right.
03:38And right now, maybe you thought it was going to be the defense, and it still could be,
03:41but through three games, you're getting big plays.
03:45You're getting what you thought you would.
03:47Rousseau talking about his new role and how the defense is different now says, basically,
03:52there's a lot more freedom to go make plays and less sitting back.
03:57So, all right.
03:58The Bills have a 15-sack guy on the roster the whole time, and now they're going to operate
04:04and get 15 sacks out of him?
04:07Right.
04:07I guess there's a debate to be had in there.
04:10If the defense is exactly the same, this is a conversation we had about the offense last
04:16week, if your offense is exactly the same, one of them has yak yards and the other one
04:20is Allen ripping down the field, for some reason, ripping down the field feels better.
04:24If your defense is exactly the same statistically in the rankings, and in one of those defenses
04:29you have a guy with 17 sacks and another one you don't, the defense with 17 sacks feels
04:35better.
04:35Right?
04:36Mm-hmm.
04:37They're ranked seventh, but they have a guy with 17 sacks versus they're ranked seventh
04:40and they don't have that guy.
04:42Sometimes it's just our perception of it.
04:44But, you know, Rousseau and Deion Walker, they've got guys that have made plays and
04:48make it feel like they have more teeth up there, which is something we've been waiting
04:52for them to have despite all these, you know, massive investments up there for a long time.
04:56Yeah.
04:57I mean, it's gone so well for Rousseau that I do wonder, because they've had three games
05:02here where they looked really good in one of them, and in the other two it was like,
05:06okay, they're getting scored on by CJ Stroud.
05:08But, where Rousseau's been so good, and this is the level that they've played at through
05:14three games.
05:15He's the best defensive player in football through three games?
05:18He's at least in the conversation, isn't he?
05:20I mean, he's got the most sacks.
05:21He's second in pressures.
05:23I think only Dallas Turner has more.
05:26Well, they have a chance to get their first Pro Bowler on the defensive line since Kyle
05:29Williams.
05:30Right.
05:30Fourth in pressure.
05:31Hutchinson and Will Anderson have more also.
05:33But, like, do I need him to be one of the best five defensive players in football to
05:38sustain this level of defense?
05:41Because he could still be great, and you will expect he's not going to get two sacks a game
05:46and all of these turnovers and all of these pressures for the entire season.
05:49Right, won't they start shifting more attention his way?
05:52More double teams.
05:52They're going to chip him more often.
05:54Right.
05:54Once the numbers start to get out there.
05:56So, like, if he, you know, slides back from, oh, he's on the level of Will Anderson through
06:02three games, to he is the best he's ever been.
06:05He's great.
06:06He's just not all pro first team level good, which I think is the likeliest place we're
06:12going to end up.
06:13I don't think he's winning defensive player of the year.
06:15I don't think he's getting 20 sacks.
06:17Maybe.
06:17Could he be first team all pro?
06:19That's what I mean.
06:19Like, even that, by the end of the season, like, he's got 14 games to sustain this level.
06:26I think we're going to see some sort of regression back, at least even a little bit.
06:32And then, how good is their defense?
06:33If, hey, maybe he's not there to make the big sack on third down in this one game, what
06:39happens then?
06:40Are you getting scored on relentlessly?
06:42Or is Deion Walker next to him also so good that, like, it's fine.
06:45Rousseau can have a game where he's getting double teamed, he's not making that big of
06:49an impact, but because they've got Walker, and even if you want Bradley Chubb on the
06:52other side, like, their defensive front is so talented now compared to where they've
06:58been, that they're going to be fine.
07:02Because that, if they can just settle that, and the defense can sustain a level of being
07:09average in the league because they're getting pressure on the quarterback, then I'm not
07:13going to feel like they have a real significant fatal flaw in the entire roster.
07:17Because I don't know on offense what, what, what do you even think would come up that
07:21isn't injuries.
07:22Right.
07:23Injury-based is a lot, is going to be a lot of it.
07:25803-0550, if you have a thought on this, you know, not, not even really asking you to
07:30identify what one is.
07:31If you want that, you can have it.
07:33I feel like it's the first time we've not known yet.
07:37And I don't know when we will, you know, they play New England.
07:40Aren't people going to expect the game that they expected against the Chargers that didn't
07:44ultimately happen, which is that they're going to dominate.
07:47They're going to score their points.
07:49New England's offense is a mess.
07:51There's a lot of stuff about Drake May playing against cover six and how his numbers against
07:56cover six are terrible, which by the way, McDermott did in New England.
08:00McDermott got a lot of credit last year for being the first one in last year's season that
08:05kind of unveiled, like, I'm going to throw cover six at him and he's not going to deal
08:09with it well.
08:10And that's, that's a part of like the last seven games.
08:12You've got a McDermott game where they unleash that and he has real trouble with it.
08:16Seattle plays a lot of that than Houston, Denver.
08:19And I don't know, are you getting teams to give May a look he doesn't love?
08:24The line's not very good.
08:25They can't protect him.
08:26The receivers can't get open.
08:27They traded away their two best receivers of last year.
08:29I mean, like they've got some questionable decisions, but.
08:32And he's missing throws.
08:33He's definitely missing throws.
08:34Again, I watched the condensed game back from Jacksonville.
08:36Like he missed, he had Demario Douglas running wide open at the five yard line and he overshot
08:41him.
08:42Like there were, there were four or five passes.
08:44I want to say from that game last week against Jacksonville, where it wasn't about the help
08:49around him.
08:49It wasn't about the line.
08:50It wasn't about Josh McDaniels.
08:52It was just, he just flat out missed a guy that was open.
