Few secure a flight home after hurricane Melissa collapses Jamaica's Montego Bay airport

The devastation from Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica has left Montego Bay Airport bearing the brunt of the storm's impact on Saturday, November 1, as very few travelers are able to get a flight out of the island.

Bent road signs, debris-strewn grounds, and damaged airport vehicles are a common sigh at Sangster International Airport.

Kathy Carr, a 74-year-old tourist from New Jersey who should have left on the 27th of October now faces a lack of access to the medications she needs.

Jorge Del Rio, a tourist from Peru, shared a glimmer of hope, revealing that the Peruvian government is arranging an evacuation flight for a group of 14 people.

Melissa, one of the strongest storms on record to make landfall in the Caribbean, began to dissipate on Friday, October 31, after sowing devastation across much of Jamaica, cutting off communities in Cuba, drenching Haiti and leaving at least 50 dead.

00:58Here I am.
01:28We should have left on the 27th.
01:42Now, it seems as though we are on an indefinite time frame as to when we'll be leaving.
01:51My problem is medication.
01:54Medications have run out since Wednesday.
01:56Now I'm on a blood pressure medication.
01:59I'm on an anti-anxiety medication.
02:01I'm also on painkillers.
02:04And there's nowhere here where we can get medications.
02:07The painkillers are not so bad because you can get those over the counter.
02:11What about blood pressure medications?
02:13What about anti-anxiety medications and other medications that people are on?
02:18So Melissa may claim not just the deaths from the hurricanes.
02:23Now we have to look at deaths from health issues.
02:35So we're going to leave so much pain.
02:40You're going to leave so much pain.
