Hurricane Melissa, which formed on October 21, 2025, rapidly intensified into a Category 5 storm with sustained winds of 175 mph, making it the strongest hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic season.
As it approached Jamaica, authorities issued mandatory evacuations for parts of southern Jamaica, including Port Royal, and opened over 800 shelters.
The storm brought life-threatening flash floods, destructive winds, and storm surges up to 13 feet.
