Hurricane Melissa set to hit Jamaica and Cuba

Hurricane Melissa has intensified into a Category 5 storm as it draws closer to Jamaica, where forecasters say it will unleash catastrophic flooding, landslides and widespread damage. Cuba is predicted to be next in its path.

00:00Cuba is preparing for the worst.
00:05Hurricane Melissa, the strongest storm of this hurricane season so far,
00:10is set to reach the island on Tuesday evening as a Category 4 storm.
00:15The population on the island has attempted to prepare for the arrival of the storm,
00:20which is likely to cause heavy flooding in many areas.
00:25We are working on the drainage of channels because our community receives water from other communities.
00:34Our channels are the ones that filter excess of water, and that's how the flooding occurs in the territory.
00:42The authorities have also put in place emergency shelters for the inhabitants.
00:48It will accommodate approximately 260 people.
00:55That's not the limit. We have room for more people.
00:58For anyone who must evacuate, our doors will be open.
01:03Before Cuba, Hurricane Melissa will hit the island of Jamaica as a Category 5 storm, the maximum level.
