00:00Life is precious and can be a beautiful trip, but the ride through it is seldom a jaunt.

00:07This week we're in Mooncoyne, County Kilkenny.

00:10We have volunteer cats from every corner of the country.

00:13We have alley cats, wild cats, some stray cats, we've even got some fat cats.

00:17We have the best of the best.

00:20And the random cats are gathered, this time for a gorgeous nine-year-old girl

00:25who has never had a home to suit her needs.

00:28She's never had a house that she could kind of access freely by herself.

00:33Have you got a list? See, you're way ahead, big fan of lists.

00:36I'm looking for a globe.

00:38Think bigger.

00:39The O'Hanlon's secured a meagre mortgage and Avian's grandad, Rufa Mick,

00:43took on the impossible task of self-building the house.

00:47Really, I felt that I was going to put my dad into an early grave.

00:51While the family of five stayed with John's parents.

00:55They welcomed us in here with open arms.

00:57For six months, that was a year and a half ago.

00:59No.

01:09We were picked, winning the lotto.

01:11In just nine days, the crazy plan is to complete the dream.

01:31Twelve years ago, a pair of very gooey-eyed students met, fell head over heels and wasted no time in starting their life together.

01:40their life together just remember this beautiful smile and black curly hair smitten straight away

01:46we said once we were qualified and had jobs that was it we were ready to go buy a house

01:52then even came along and of course we had to change course a bit or totally completely

01:59flipped everything

02:02we just went in for the 21 week scan i said there's something wrong

02:08none of them are ringing us the ultrasonographer said the news the baby has spina bifida and it's bad

02:16she was born almost four weeks early the aftermath then going down to the basement of holly street

02:25and seeing her little body that was hard i remember just sitting on the floor in there

02:29i guess she's literally floored i just said how do we fix her because of the judy and atresia

02:38she was rushed to temple street and she was operated on the very next day

02:41there was massive questions over how they were going to close her back

02:45she was only two and a half kg they were worried about they wouldn't have enough skin to graft it

02:51you know the way with your other kids it gets easier as they get older

02:57like it really gets harder everything kind of turns into a struggle

03:01once avian kind of got to an age around four five we thought we need to get a proper place for avian

03:10her needs are to feel like an independent child yeah

03:14she's been having these night anxiety episodes

03:19i call them night terrors they're waiting to see is it is it going to winter full escalation

03:25i can see it in her eyes she's saying to me daddy help me i can't do things for myself

03:31and that's why i'm freaking out or that's why i have these episodes because the world doesn't

03:38understand me that's what this is about so we just want her to be independent

03:42after a punishing struggle to secure a small mortgage the o'hanelands bought a site

03:48and grandad mick said about the self-build from scratch

03:52my dad has been in construction since he was about 17

03:58i don't think he quite expected to be down there 12 hours a day seven days a week

04:05what choice do you have like we we're going to have to get the house done

04:11it would have been moving in with just the bare bones of of a house and not remotely accessible

04:18for avian which was exactly the whole point of of you know why we wanted the house in the

04:24first place for avian moon coin yeah yeah this is moon coin i can tell you because i've walked

04:32all the way from the train station that's it

04:36open the door open the door how are you give us some skin i'm just here to check your biscuits in

04:48oh yeah hello how are you madam good evening good to see you

04:52has bascona come and do our house is he yeah

04:55be very worrying if i was the one actually doing your house so how long have you guys been living

05:00here a year and a half okay john came to me and he said put in mind if they moved in with us

05:06for four to five months that was 18 months ago what's that been like how's that been enriching

05:13well pussed lads well pussed how did diysos come about my sisters yeah they put in the application

05:21there unbeknownst to us we were very surprised uh but what a surprise i'd love to have a look at

05:26this site yeah this is cracking did mick do all this yeah dad has been on it when did you realize

05:34was starting to get away from you a bit we left here on the friday evening it had been a beautiful

05:40crisp cold friday and then heavy rain and i arrived down here saturday morning and it was oh it was

05:46just it was carnage project that has been your dream slowly turns into your nightmare

05:53granny monica has labored alongside her hard-working husband for such a long time

06:05us helping him build it was the only way you know was do it or leave avian in accommodation

06:11that does not suit her even the last year i see her going downhill it's a nice house but it's not

06:18suitable for somebody like avian i knew mick was under huge pressure as my son said when we were

06:26starting they said two two pensioners they said what are you yeah what type of hours have you put

06:31in here endless endless quite endless yeah yeah well dawn to dusk but the big driving force for this

06:37of course is avian yeah yeah so whatever hours you put into it we had emotional anyway nah listen

06:43she needs to have a home she can call her own have a home that she can settle in as herself

06:51huge amount of stress huge amount of stress it's a poor man aged about 10 years i think in the last

06:57year it was just enormous challenge it must be quite overwhelming because it's a huge huge job

07:05you'd be amazed at the amount of hours it takes to get things done you know and especially if you're

07:12doing a lot of the work yourself for us to finish it would take years i'd be definitely in the grave

07:17i'd be in the 80s i'd say it needs something else you know it needs needs diy sos now the first hoop

07:25demands some critical works before the legion of volunteers arrive on site underfloor heating is

07:31laid the roof is secured and some tricky slabbing is erected absolutely brilliant credit to mick he's

07:40done so much on his own to get it to wherever it is at the moment it's outstanding

07:44what a wonderful day day one my favorite day that well actually the last day is my favorite day

07:54beautiful day one this is a great start so once the family meet all the volunteers then we can get

08:00busy woohoo day one good morning all how are you oh my god what happened to you well you're made

08:07for tv you got your big break you're the true embodiment of the finest nature of the human

08:18spirit myself and sharon wants to find a home for our little girl not just any home it was going to be

08:23a refuge a place where she wouldn't have any obstacles or hurdles turns out it's not so easy

08:28but with your help instead of taking five years to build hopefully you can take two weeks to build

08:35this house thank you amazing to see everybody here it's going to make such a massive difference to

08:42our lives and to avian's lives i just want to thank you so much thanks for helping my granda build our house

08:49all the help is required and all the help is welcome you all know what you're doing surely

09:07no surely i meant you know what you're doing yeah i've got glasses anyone in need them come on on we go

09:12health and safety first go on helena hands and heels giddy up we're off right this vision of high

09:20viz angels with their hard hat halos have just nine days to complete mix half build dream for 18

09:26now you're the diy sos big real ireland consultant yeah i came a couple weeks ago here and they're

09:33all the family were here they were all mucking in the passion of that family has gone into this house

09:38and for our stalwart electrician steven surely a halo must be just one plug away nine days time

09:44they're going to walk into a brand new house all finished all these volunteers are going to be over the

09:48moon get a couple of rooms ready inside first just to watch avian coming in here seeing the house

09:53you'll be very good first up is a precast wall to be joined to the exterior facade

09:59hey hold them there hold them there that there has to be moved we're trying to dig out for the

10:04foundation for this precast wall because this precast wall is a real feature in the landscaping design

10:10what do we measure it for excuse me positioning of it is critical i need to measure that and i need to

10:17get the center point this is called rapid build right and this is kind of rapid build on steroids

10:24lads as cormac sets up to drop the wall in the courtyard i'm on the snoop for catherine to see

10:32what else is in store for the garden what plans have you got the whole design is designed around

10:37avian's access to the garden there's probably more paving than i'd usually use in the garden but that's

10:41just purely so that she's going to be able to get the whole way around this space we're making a

10:46little schoolhouse if i was a kid i'd kill you you're building a school for them

10:50hey morning everyone look at this all the sixth class do that oh my god that's brilliant

11:02it's tango time for cormac his partner at precast wall

11:29get her squared up in the hall okay stop there now drop her straight down hold her there now

11:37we're caught for an inch the pipe's in the way you're trying to get it closer to the wall it's

11:42not tight enough to the wall so we just need to dig it out another bit

11:44well with first fixing going hammer and tongs i tracked down kerry to suss out her vision for

11:52the interiors this is avian's room oh yes there's going to be a hoist here above her bed she's got

11:58her own wet room as well sink she can feel under herself feel a little bit more independent

12:02we have rain's room there is a race car bed here this is going to have a little climbing wall

12:09on it what is that that is another bedroom where is mom and dad that's a big question yeah

12:17there's an extension there's an extension yes did you know there was an extension did you know there

12:21was an extension

12:22wow so this is your extension this side here is going to be the master ensuite and then they have

12:37a massive bedroom there so they've all got really decent sized rooms it's amazing what a big build this

12:44is i'm starting to see it now here we are kitchen right here we're going to have a big pendant down

12:51over a large beautiful marble table sculptural it sits in one central plinth yep do you remember what

12:58that thing was called yes the most exciting part because we've never done it before a hydraulic drop

13:04down station avian be able to help cook have you ever seen an upy downy oven is there an upy downy

13:10sink as well or it's just an upy downy cook nope there's an upy downy i can't believe i'm calling it

13:14welcome to the lowest common denominator interior design this is what you're dealing with now

13:19robbie robbie robbie i like your roof oh this is a long-lasting metal roof how'd you get roped

13:30into volunteering here um i know mick from years back i worked with mick he did some job in fairness

13:36he did he did he did a good job he needed to push over the line i fancied himself as a bit of a

13:40roofer there's like a diet coke ad up here you were taking off tops that up the ways

13:46i'm not with this you're on oh you're on the bender bas you'll end up trying oh jeez no one saw that

13:51right

13:52that's it if you start to the top

13:56i don't want you even you can install a roof little nixer if you need a hand

14:02that's lovely horn that's you bass see now you learn something new every day just wanna make

14:08love to you sockets on that corner there the sockets in that corner and socks in that corner

14:14there's no bother now what's going on in here it's busy trying to keep ahead of the slabbers

14:20well not ahead is the timber frame for the extensions not that i want to gossip but notably delayed by the

14:26wall shenanigans now we're two and a half hours late we got held up with the precast ball there

14:32this team have a huge day ahead

14:39those guys are probably going to be here till nine o'clock tonight because they have to finish so it's

14:43not about the time it's about the task they're not going to affect that if they don't do it we need

14:47to get that boarded tomorrow and get it finished tomorrow so we can get it plastered the next day

14:52this morning when you saw the family for the first time now i know you saw them before but when you

14:56heard no i haven't have you not today is the first day i met the family what was your thoughts and

15:01seeing that i was blown away and even just like i'd kiss myself

15:12now let me ask you this nick it was today today was very good it's great to see 110 people eager to get

15:20to work this morning you know it's really a dream come true so the moment i'm living a dream yeah

15:26if you see what that man has done here on his own himself and his wife monica

15:31it is phenomenal i was talking to cornbread the gaffer and he was overwhelmed at how much

15:40you and monica did i mean you're at it for avian for avian rose you just

15:45you have a goal in mind and um and get on with it you know and it's great to see all the help

15:52everybody's bringing in to just to give him it's all they want to say yeah like to be fair like it's

15:58fantastic and we'll do it whatever it takes media done this is a team effort absolutely and you see the

16:06people we have there today like they're all in it and every one of them has bought into it and so

16:12and we have more coming good job thank you very much ah look at that that's how you end the day

16:18eight days from now it's all the circus is going to leave and the hanlands are going to have a home

16:27troops of soldiers march to the moon coin site tell me how we're doing with volunteers we're very good

16:35now we have about 130 here today we had 149 yesterday where are they from they're from all

16:41over irish english you have people here from scotland you have people here from ukraine

16:47i often wonder what heaven is like this is probably the nearest to it you're in my heaven mary

16:53we're doing the plumbing and heating here at the moment how busy has it been a little bit intense

16:57yeah it is it's organized chaos what made you want to be involved i have a younger sister

17:04with that condition my son is on the spectrum so it's very very close this will change their lives

17:09forever more which is great and it's great to be involved in the extension glazing is all ready for

17:15unloading finally lads who can use their head oh what's top of your list get the windows in get clothes

17:21up they're already fitting them now at the moment structure up last night in the extension so we're

17:26roofing that today inside then we're the lads are continuing with the first fix i think we did very

17:33well yesterday and it's just to keep up the momentum now on us sparks slabbers skimmers rogues and rascals

17:43all united in the one purpose johnny yeah how many johnny's are in here five johnny's you're jonathan

17:53john you're john john you're johnny you're johnny who are you i'm martin get out you're all one crew right

18:05trades by any and every other name dive into the external render what are you most concerned about

18:16um probably my most concern is drying time with this type of plaster we have to leave between three to

18:24four days between the base coat and the finish code you just have to give that time tell me where we

18:28are how's it going they're going really well they're skimming on the internal they're actually ahead

18:32and the external always with these projects it's who you're doing it for everything we're doing here

18:39is for avian me all the rest of us in the fire brigade it's just in our nature that we want to help

18:44people we want to do whatever we need to do in our communities you two repeat offenders back again

18:50number six or something for me you know what i mean but it's just addictive great to be able to uh

18:55lend a hand to people in need a couple hours out of your life is changing someone else's life forever

19:01amy bean's auntie emma is a sculptor and artist in london and has come home with a stellar idea

19:07perfect for her moon coin gaff tis all stone mad this was taken out from the base of the sleeve balloon

19:14mountains i wanted one of these stones to be a thing that she can turn because she's moving mountains

19:19moving rocks you know kind of a symbol of like what she's done i go home to london i'd be there watching

19:26videos of her

19:30mad into like pointing out the moon and following the moon gonna have little hoseness so she can kind

19:35of have it as her little telescope monica it's lovely to meet you there's something about avian

19:41she's an out-and-out dote you know what i mean she's an out-and-out dote looking at this how are you

19:46feeling looking at it today it's just fantastic i can't just say another word i know i know i know

19:53yeah yeah all good people and you can feel the energy which one are you plotted to get in touch

20:01with diys west went to the registration and said we have to do this what was it meaning that that

20:07it got you to a point where you thought i would need to it was pure desperation it's just been

20:13very very hard to witness if they just go through come on well done

20:21i adore avian she's made us a better family stronger family we're just we like we wouldn't be what we are

20:26without her say hello hello the house i think was just a step too far having anyone with a disability

20:34it's lonely and then you see this and it's like good happens too there's amazing people in the world

20:39it's just magic it's hard to accept sometimes that much goodwill it's hard not to get emotional about

20:45it because to me it's a miracle what will it feel like to see the guys move in it's like as if the

20:50weight of the world has been lifted do you deserve it i don't know they so deserve it they so deserve

20:58it they're just lovely enjoy the show

21:07it's another busy day in the builder's paradise here in the sunny southeast

21:15it's unreal the amount of people that came through the doors up in 140 each day

21:21lots of plasters we've got lots of every other trade on site but carpenters are just not to be

21:27got the plasters we're here today to finish they can't finish we've had to put them off a day now

21:33this is the knock-on effect of things we really do need more carpenters we have about another day

21:38realistically for the crew we have here to actually finish the boarding properly it's not lovely if you'd

21:45like to hear that sound close come especially if you're a carpenter or chippy flat out

21:54what's going on with the heat i'm half egyptian i can take it but i'm worried about you these black

21:58hats the sun is beating down and i heat them up and they're like an oven you know what we have an

22:02issue with now we can't dry out the plummet house how have a look inside oh it's a sweaty sticky

22:10hot box inside someone get me my revitalizing mist see the way it's drying really slowly that all has

22:16to be born dry before i can start painting it's starting to dry up here yeah but this is two days

22:20now and if you think of today's stuff we're going to struggle with that tomorrow what's going on with

22:25the drying last more dryers painters coming in on saturday this place won't be dry saturday

22:32sunday four o'clock saturday am you're saying sunday you're saying 4am saturday who's in charge

22:41what's the trick with getting them dried fast big problem here is unfortunately we can't break the

22:45membrane outside break the membrane what are you talking about so i see the membrane in the windows

22:49doors yeah to stop them getting destroyed from the plaster i think we might have to take it all down

22:53and let it breathe let the air in oh look executive decision made oh my god

23:02no consultation there he's gone insane in the membrane i think that's what it is

23:10the hulk don't know well that's it

23:18now that might be all peachy but the garden's muck

23:22no literally it's a big mound of muck now the groundworks lads were given out yesterday because

23:28they're giving out today too are they what's their gripe the grape is that every time they go to do

23:33something we need to drive in and out over them between me and you i love landscapers this lot

23:38hogging everything you're always last landscape is the last yeah yeah so it'll be a big push for us now

23:44a ginormous jungle of beautiful trees shrubs and turf are gifted and a puppy i'm keeping him

23:53down dog down we didn't count them actually to be honest with you captain picked out what she

23:59wanted and we let her off it's gonna be up on 1500 when we're done very good cause donated 1500 plants

24:08doesn't even know them the sun very hot very nice this good weather for you this works well for you

24:13things like keeping the turf alive that's just gonna be you have to be really careful with the watering and

24:17the same with the plants we have a neighbor is mining them for us in her shed now how we're going to

24:21get them in i have no idea that's a different challenge

24:30sure i thought the stone cladden was all going tickety boo but what do you know we've hit a wall

24:36and now the gaffer is hitting his head against it he's bamboozled we don't have enough stone to finish

24:47uh he's talking to himself now god we're at that stage so we're going to need 30 square meters of

24:54stone cladding i think there's about 10 square meters of palette so we need three pallets of it

24:58and 14 linear meters of corners it's a fair bit of stone isn't it that's a lot of stone

25:04checked up with the company who does this dawn they don't have any more of it in stock

25:08all right big big big problem the cladden the stone cladden here is zip you can't get it anywhere

25:20we can get the same color of stone yeah it's just from a different supplier so you got to get something

25:25that kind of looks like it that won't be too contrast no i don't know it's going too smoothly

25:31isn't it it's all going too well it always happens it always happens it's less construction for you

25:37yeah that's d-r-y-s-o-s for you never left you not sure if my cuddles will cut it here so i pull

25:43myself away from the gaffer and his gunners while i head down to the village to meet john

25:49how are you feeling now compared to say this time last year the relief is is starting to really

25:54come over all of us what were the main stresses with getting a home finance was was the main thing

26:01obviously because we knew we were on limited budget so it more or less landed on mick's

26:07shoulders he became exhausted as he got more and more into it the denial was like a coping mechanism

26:13it'll be grand you know it'll always be grand we'll get there we'll get there we would have never got

26:18there unless you have a child with additional needs it's hard to explain how all-consuming it can be

26:29it is tough it is tough but we're a tight couple avian made us stronger go she'll tell me she loves me

26:34every day i mean what dad doesn't want that you got reen and then you got little annie may as well

26:41is it hard to balance that with all of them we are looking up after two other kids and meanwhile avian

26:47is calling for you and that's why it's so important that she has a space where she can move freely around

26:52it must have been a shock to find out when avian was coming that she was coming with these conditions

26:59it was like being hit by a train yeah that being given that news i shouted

27:05i was at the nearest window what were you shouting for why you know just why

27:10it's a new dawn and a new day and a lorry load of new jobs to get done no rest for the wonderful wicket

27:21we were shot the captain was yesterday so we'll put out the card through the sos

27:25happy this morning to get maybe four to five captain has arrived on site

27:30we're under a small bit of pressure to get the floor in

27:32to release the room then for us to do the doors and skipping architrape

27:39hundreds and hundreds of boxes of floor the whole house has been floors

27:44normally coming in like an empty site but there's hundreds of people there it's crazy

27:49i'm beyond floored by the industry of this bunch but our novella the bathrooms are looking queer lonely

27:56we still have no titles on site i just found out that we're missing some tiles

28:00there's guys here in three bathrooms raring to go we're in a bit of a mess at the moment

28:04the problems every day we shall get through them

28:09emma there mixed daughters over farming the stone there at the moment feature sculpture

28:14so that's lovely they're major help so i'm getting lads to help me core the whole

28:19paving lads they have a big console so they're helping me do that we're still going to try and make one

28:24of the pieces spin emma said to me that she would have this calendar dial that would always come back to the

28:29day that the keys are handed over i think it's going to be a huge day for them

28:35the rogue tiles have finally arrived nine hours after the tilers

28:41how long are you going to be here for we hoped to get a lot of thailand on today

28:47but it looks like we're going to have to push things back a day

28:51so that's going to have an impact on the plumbers

28:53plumbers we're hoping to get in sunday morning to second fix everything

28:57two little kids at home looking for daddy to go to the seaside

29:00oh stop would you now stop stop stop laying it on hard

29:04i'm so sorry to him and your child you

29:08cameraman you pay peanuts you get gorillas sorry lots

29:10are the landscaper still delayed are they able to kind of crack in a bit it's probably a bit early

29:50i think i'm seeing things i'm gonna sound very stupid now it was one sparkly and one not

30:31having got ahead of themselves early doors the honchos are now feeling the heat and running out

30:37of materials stay there until you get the second one bit stressed all right this morning you can't

30:43drop a bombshell like that and walk off if there's a problem you let me know and we'll figure something

30:48out we were supposed to have uh pavers here this morning at six o'clock thank god we didn't because

30:53we had no sand we had no cement fruit i had to give fun fella an earful for parking his jeep and

31:00trailer inside the place blocking the whole place up and then 20 minutes later i had to go and beg him

31:05to get a bar's jeep and trailer he's drove in to get the first ballot they're close to 12 o'clock

31:10and what time is it now 11 45 i might have to ring chadwigs and ask them to wait on you're a star

31:18declan we're short sand okay and no trucks no nothing they're close at one o'clock as well

31:23jeez everybody closes don't they know we're doing the job cool calm collected carrie is refusing to get

31:30ruffled hey but she's about to be tested it actually looks amazing but they were supposed

31:35to be stacked horizontally not vertically the drawings had them stacked tiles are going the wrong way so

31:42it's supposed to be like that basically it's still half pink and white i think it looks it looks beautiful

31:48it's just a slight tweak that's the pattern child for behind the bath oh cool it's very pretty that's

31:56gorgeous no let up for the warriors no no no the paint team are firing on all cylinders

32:05it's second to none it's second to none what the boys are doing in there i keep asking more of them

32:09and more and more but every time i ask them for more to give me more it's unbelievable it really is

32:15unbelievable isn't it when someone in the building game you just see the professionalism of the lads and

32:19the craft that they're doing is unbelievable even in the bank holiday weekend on weather like this

32:25and you still have this amount of people here just restores your faith i think in humanity that there

32:30is so much kindness out there and that people like avian bring all that together you know it's fantastic

32:36is it it starts with the girls in the food tent and and then straight away there's just this buzz you

32:41walk up and you see the house and it's like every day you just start to watch it grow oh we'll be back

32:46again and again because to know that at the end of the day there's a family going into a house

32:52so many positive people because that's what you get you're never going to meet a negative person

32:56on a site like this i have never had it so easy to get up every morning and i just love it it's nine

33:01days out of your life that's it for me the main thing with yoga is that you're just in the moment

33:09a bit of kunis for monica's mantra namaste heroes namaste

33:17how's the kormacan side doing how are you doing are you enjoying it are you stressed are you

33:23oh i'm good are you good i'm in a good place now okay hope you all feel elevated because meditation

33:37time is over there's still shed loads still to be done especially in the garden it's way behind

33:43we're going to have to work around the pavers all rushing to get the whole area done

33:52our turf has arrived this was cut on saturday and we're now monday we need to get it laid because

33:59if it sits on the pallets much longer it's going to start to turn yellow from the start the site is

34:05big and so it was always ambitious the whole garden i still think we'll get it all done i'm hoping

34:15we're not scared are you scared

34:19oh days and days of work went into this careful go slow go bar is done up there to the template of

35:38amount of trades people turning up here every day it's unbelievable keep the motivation going

35:48keep people upbeat where's your trophy because it's been a hard couple days on everybody here

35:53you love beetroot don't you yes i do dig deep and they will get there

35:58we're doing what you normally do in maybe three months in a week here like it's it's just crazy

36:05we've been involved in every diy sos since the very start it's always great to be involved in these

36:09kind of projects and it's great to see the same volunteers here all the time

36:12well what more can you do what more do you want me to do it's great to do it it's a pleasure actually

36:19to do it for the family the first diy sos was done for my god child michael barry they all seem to

36:25walk together in harmony they love each other and there's no argument or anything else it's only just

36:30get it done you have a volunteer for life i think there's people come from everywhere we had 182 people

36:37here on a bank holiday monday i'm not surprised at all at the number of people who've come here because

36:41people in this parish are very compassionate we're here to finish off the schoolhouse right

36:48we've been an autistic unit brilliant group of kids like avian life can be that extra challenge

36:53so we're all delighted to play a small bit if we can help out in any way best i could contribute

36:58was a lovely little cushion for avian to have for her bed this is gorgeous and this is ready to go

37:03is it one button left that's brilliant that says handmade but love we still got what like 36 stars

37:09or so the final push it's vital and to give it socks for that final push moon coin royalty the

37:17fantastic hikings are here to lift those weary spirits

37:37this was just the tonic you know you can see people are walking away here this evening they're all happy

37:43so hopefully tomorrow morning they're all back again and one last push oh oh they're pumped oh

37:49that's what they needed good bit of a dip today a big hoolie in a field sure do we have to go home

38:02sharon has picked one of her favorite spots by the nearby river shore for a pitcher postcard rendezvous

38:08being a parent is busy but when you have a child with additional needs what type of things do you

38:15have to bring avian to physio would be a big one go go go what's the requirement for physio for her

38:21now it's just movement of the limbs yeah this is why like the house will be so life-changing for her

38:27because she's never had a surface that was at the right level for her to learn how to transfer from her

38:33wheelchair onto what is her condition exactly she was actually born with three congenital anomalies so

38:38spine bifida was one she had like quite a significant lemon-shaped skull um and you could

38:45see the enlarged ventricles in her brain so that was a quite severe hydrocephalus very very bad club

38:49foot her lesion yeah yeah on your first baby the world is just not set up for people like avian i said

38:59so when she comes into her own home it has to be a refuge for her you know it has to be somewhere

39:06that she has the freedom to do what she wants how long has this journey with the house been

39:10i remember looking for climbing gates when i was heavenly pregnant on reen looking for sites so

39:16five and a half years i was really starting to get worried that we were going to put dad in an early

39:21grave and like we would have never finished it and he would probably killed himself trying and it would

39:26have been my fault they were never going to get the groundwork son which would mean that avian would

39:31never get the access she needed to get from inside to outside and you know that was kind of the whole

39:36purpose of it if you were to imagine the the reveal day and you were composed

39:45what would you say to to the volunteers this is going to be so life-changing for avian and then as a

39:51result like for us as a family it's so huge i can't even imagine what it's going to be like i think you're

39:58going to be a mess i think everyone cares so much started with mick building it with just love and

40:07it's going to end with a thousand different hands putting there a little bit of love and there a bit

40:11of empathy and kindness all that is going to create this home moving into a place that's constructed from

40:18that like that's a magical thing day nine already and not even nine daylight hours left

40:34this is so going straight to the wire 11am on the last day and genuinely i'd be halfway through putting

40:42the furniture in we don't have countertops the media wall is there but there's no tv on it

40:52do you have furniture lorries we just can't really put it in the house yet

40:59it will get done it's just um when it gets done

41:01that's cool isn't it we're gonna do all the way down and they were like oh it's too much

41:14the bed will be here and then come out and just have that behind it that is gorgeous

41:20also gorgeous is a piece of original artwork made specially for luna loving av

41:25we have some artwork a very close-up abstract moon moon moon coin and avian loves moon there you go

41:37there we go ah lovely delighted to be able to do something yeah really ah they're gonna love us

41:44this is where we need volunteers 1500 plants to get in today lads and we have to dig out a lot of areas

41:51to put them in so i need at least 20 guys on wheelbarrows shovels pickaxes just the people

41:58here are unbelievable from the construction guys to the gardening crew to the carpenters the plumbers

42:05the volunteers it's just like an unbelievable bunch of people

42:13there's goodness in the world still there is goodness in the world so it's evident when you look

42:18around it's amazing what can be done with the willpower when everybody's going the same way

42:22and everybody's going for the same goal they all have the family's best interest at heart

42:27it's amazing what can be achieved oh this will stay with me forever this job is done and dusted

48:16thanks for building our dreamers i can't wait to play in the garden sometimes when you're a parent of a

48:24child with additional needs it can feel a little bit lonely just from the crowds we see here today

48:30has blown that theory clear out of the water just showing up and showing such support for us and

48:36such empathy and understanding we're completely blown away and overwhelmed we will now be able to

48:43flourish in this house this is going to allow us to thrive as a family it's just unbelievable they say

48:49you know miracles don't happen but this is living proof miracles do happen and each of and every one

48:54of you have created a miracle and we will never ever forget the love that you've shown even can now

49:01instead of being a cocoon she can flower instead of sitting in a corner she can now fly all because of you

49:11the ohanlans and the moors are a top reminder of the power of family and how that reminder of love

49:17and unity became a catalyst that brought over 1400 volunteers from every corner of ireland

49:24here to moon coin for nine days for one very special little girl and her family we may not remember

49:31what everyone did but we'll never forget how it made us feel i'm on top of the world

49:39down on creation and the only explanation i can find is the love that i've found ever since you've been around
