00:00Yes, today is a very special day for Mercedes-Benz trucks.
00:05We are starting the rally with our Ektros 600.
00:08Why is that special?
00:10Because it is the start of emission-free supply for our plants in Germany.
00:15We have a fantastic product with our Ektros 600.
00:18As you can see, we are standing behind us, ready to drive.
00:22Okay, and of course you can't do a project like this alone.
00:25On the one hand, you need partners and customers who accompany you on this journey.
00:32We have them here today, and of course we also need a dedicated team that is committed to dedication and works towards it.
00:40And we have all of this content together here.
00:44That's why it's a special day and today we will be sending the vehicles on their journey.
00:48In the future, they will drive around 2.5 million kilometers per year, supplying our four plants in Germany with parts.
00:58And that is a first important milestone for us in the future.
01:02Okay, and in order to significantly advance electrification, three aspects are essentially needed.
01:08Firstly, we need the product.
01:10As you can see, we have the product.
01:12Secondly, we need cost parity in the energy supply and thirdly, of course, we need the infrastructure to charge these vehicles.
01:22However, we still see some catching up to do in the latter area, because the existing infrastructure is not yet sufficient to provide our customers with a comprehensive charging infrastructure.
01:32And this is one of the important levers that must now be addressed in a focused manner in order to accelerate the decarbonization of our industry.
01:44With the ERCTOS 600, our partners and customers now have the right product at their side to meet their requirements.
01:50This means a range of around 500 kilometers, which is sufficient to supply our plants efficiently on your European routes.
02:03My name is Rainer Schmidt, and I am a partner in Logistics Schmidt.
02:09We have been involved in e-mobility since 2018, very early on.
02:14We started with the overhead line route here in Baden-WĂŒrttemberg.
02:18We were asked if we wanted to participate.
02:19At first we didn't want to participate, then we decided to participate with a BEF thanks to our customer attraction.
02:26And in recent years we have proven that we can always reliably deliver our deliveries.
02:30Yes, our journey began with the initial considerations in 2018 and then with the delivery of the E300 and the one from the innovation fleet and then Chin 2.
02:39It was a really exciting journey for us.
02:41We are really proud to be able to participate in the big rally here with the E600 product.
02:46The answer is quite simple.
02:47What is special?
02:49Ah, e-mobility is coming of age.
02:51The E300 started out with a short range, with charging infrastructure, with little charging current, and now we can already cover long distances.
02:59We are now driving all the way to Hungary, across borders, and it works really well.
03:03The challenges are manifold.
03:05First of all, let's think about the vehicle technology.
03:07That has improved relatively quickly, but so is the charging infrastructure.
03:11How do I integrate this into my day-to-day operations?
03:13How does it come across in the dispatch department?
03:15How do I convince the driver?
03:16There are many hurdles to overcome in the transformation.
03:19How do I now also purchase energy at a reasonable price?
03:21But we are happy and have already acquired a lot of skills in recent years.
03:25Yes, it is particularly exciting for the drivers to experience the transformation.
03:29At the very beginning of 2018, 1928, there was a lot of skepticism, a lot of opposition.
03:34No, I am not going to get involved in that.
03:36Difficult, range, complicated.
03:38Now drivers are warming to us because we have E-mobility.
03:41That means that things have completely changed in a very short space of time and it is now not only a USP for customers, but also a USP for us in the driver market.
03:49The difference between diesel trucks and electric trucks is no longer that great for us, because the barriers are getting smaller and smaller.
03:58The drivers are now used to dealing with them.
04:00The charging infrastructure is getting better and better for us.
04:03Procuring electricity is no longer a problem.
04:05Customers are more understanding.
04:07This means that they are also partly building charging infrastructure directly at the factories where we land, and that is already a big advantage for us.
04:13What surprised us most about the E600?
04:15We were surprised by its really good fuel consumption.
04:19In some of our route profiles, we are below 1 kW per kilometer.
04:23That is excellent.
04:24It also works very well in colder climates, and the associated range has surprised us very positively and also opens up significantly larger distances in markets for us.
04:34So on the one hand, we are of course also driven by the innovative idea and the deconstruction of our world.
04:41Of course, I also have children, as is often mentioned, but for us it is simply also about driver acquisition.
04:47We drive very regionally, very often by building on or going into factories, where we come into contact with employees a lot, and that is exactly where we want to decorate first.
04:58The initial experiences were positive, although I have to say that after taking over the SN vehicle from the prototype, you can already tell that it has matured, much more mature.
05:12The power delivery is more homogeneous, more even, otherwise the noise level is a bit lower, but not much different to the diesel, except that it is a bit quieter, much quieter, right?
05:25I think people will enjoy the peace and quiet.
05:30They will enjoy how pleasant this vehicle is to drive and how much it slows down the driving process if they use all the assistance systems.
05:37The next one will follow in September.
05:39It has already been ordered and is due to be delivered in September, the second one, and then two or three more are planned for next year's options.
05:46So, I think that a lot of electrification can be done, especially in regular service, with tarpaulins and so on.
05:55I would say that we are of course also dealing with heavy goods transport.
06:00I think that battery electric drives will have to wait a while.
06:04But in general, I would say it is definitely a technology that I would never have believed would come into effect so quickly.
06:14At Grubo Logistic
06:16Decarbonization is a top priority for us, and that is why we are consistently pushing ahead with it,
06:21looking at where we can use electric cars and then purchasing the vehicles accordingly.
