00:00Welcome to the video from the Car Magazine Tuning Blog.
00:03Today it's all about the revised and successful model from Sweden, the Volvo XC90 Facelift.
00:10With a fresh look and technical improvements, the large SUV is entering a new phase and
00:15demonstrating that the combustion engine is far from obsolete at Volvo.
00:20Since its debut in 2002, the Volvo XC90 has been an integral part of the SUV market.
00:26The second generation has been on the road since 2014 and was already revised in 2019.
00:33Now comes the second facelift, a clear sign of how important this model is in the manufacturer's portfolio.
00:41With around 930,000 units sold, the XC90 is one of Volvo's three most successful models.
00:50The Swedes want to appeal to more buyers with the new look and are relying on a
00:53comprehensive visual and technical update.
00:57The most noticeable changes can be found in the front section of the seven-seater.
01:03Everything up to the A-pillar has been redesigned,
01:05with the design taking greater inspiration from electric models such as the EX30.
01:12Revised fenders, a redesigned hood, and modified bumpers create a modern, more powerful appearance.
01:18The standard matrix LED headlights not only improve light output but also blend harmoniously with the new design.
01:30Also new are the optional 20 or 22-inch alloy wheels, as well as the mulberry red paint finish,
01:36which further enhances the appearance.
01:37The interior has undergone sweeping changes.
01:44The center console has been redesigned and now offers more storage options, including an additional cup holder.
01:52The wireless charging cradle for mobile phones has not only been redesigned but also repositioned for easier access,
01:58a detail that should represent a noticeable improvement in daily use.
02:01The infotainment system has also been fundamentally redesigned.
02:07It is now based on Android and uses a powerful Snapdragon processor.
02:14It is operated via an 11.2-inch touchscreen in portrait format,
02:18which features a new menu structure and a clearer context bar.
02:25System and software updates are now installed wirelessly using the so-called over-the-air process.
02:31However, the charging performance of the plug-in hybrid is less advanced.
02:37Although the vehicle has a battery with a capacity of 18.8 kWh, Volvo deliberately forgoes the option of fast direct current charging.
02:47The manufacturer sees no use case for DC charging and relies on charging via home wallbox.
02:53Whether this meets the aspirations of a premium SUV remains to be seen.
02:57Buyers can choose between two drivetrain variants, a mild hybrid and a plug-in hybrid.
03:06According to Volvo, the majority of sales are to business customers.
03:10Models over a 90 are registered as company cars.
03:169 out of 10 buyers opt for the plug-in hybrid.
03:18With its 455 horsepower and a torque of around 620 Nm, this variant delivers significantly more power than the mild hybrid B5 with 250 horsepower and around 345 Nm.
03:32Both models feature all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission.
03:41In practice, the plug-in hybrid impresses with noticeably better power delivery and
03:45also enables purely electric driving over a distance of up to 71 km, at least in theory.
03:53The tax advantages for plug-in company car customers provide another argument for this choice.
04:00Both drive variants rely on a four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine with a two-liter displacement, which is noticeable under load.
04:06However, revised damping ensures greater comfort, and those seeking even smoother ride quality can opt for adaptive air suspension.
04:17The base version of the Volvo XC90B5 all-wheel drive starts at around âŹ80,000.
04:24Those opting for the T8 plug-in hybrid can expect to pay at least âŹ87,000.
04:28Three ray trim levels are available.
04:36Even though the days of the combustion engine at Volvo are numbered,
04:39plug-in hybrids and electric cars are expected to account for 90% of sales by 2030.
04:44The revised XC90 will surely still find many new customers by then.
