00:00Welcome to the Tuning Blog video about the new Volvo X90.
00:11The Volvo X90 is the Swedish car manufacturer's most modern and expensive vehicle.
00:16As a fully electric 7-seater SUV, it not only offers ample space for passengers and luggage,
00:22but also an impressive range of up to 619 km.
00:25Packed with assistance systems and plenty of power, the X90 sets new standards in terms of technology and comfort.
00:36However, the almost 3-ton car is not without its initial problems that need to be considered.
00:44Although the X90 is Volvo's new flagship, the XC90 will continue to be in the range and will receive a facelift at the end of 2024.
00:51This is likely to significantly increase the price of the plug-in hybrid,
00:56meaning that customers will have to weigh up the purely electric range of the X90 against the flexibility of a hybrid drive.
01:05The X90 impresses at first glance with its blinking LED headlights as a welcome
01:10and the ability to unlock the vehicle with an NFC key on a smartphone.
01:13The numerous assistance systems are designed to prevent accidents and increase driving comfort.
01:23However, with a length of over 5 meters and a base price of at least 8,600 euros,
01:29the X90 is also a considerable investment.
01:31An additional 2,300 euros is due for the additional third row of seats in the basic core model.
01:40In terms of performance, the basic model already offers solid driving figures with 250 kilowatts or 279 horsepower.
01:49Equipped with a net 101 kilowatt hour NMC battery, it enables a considerable range.
01:54The two all-wheel drive variants, twin-motor LVD with 300 kilowatts or 408 horsepower
02:02and twin-motor performance AVD with 380 kilowatts or 517 horsepower,
02:07have batteries with a net capacity of 107 kilowatt hours.
02:12The X90 is based on a 400-volt architecture and can charge with a maximum of 235 to 250 kilowatts,
02:20depending on the model.
02:20This enables fast charging times, with Volvo specifying a DC charging time of around 30 minutes
02:27for charging from 10 to 80%.
02:29Despite this impressive charging performance, the X90 is not particularly frugal with its power reserves.
02:37According to users' experiences online, the SUV consumes around 23 kilowatt hours per 100 kilometers
02:43under ideal conditions.
02:46When driving briskly, especially on the motorway at higher speeds,
02:50consumption can increase to up to 30 hours of battery life.
02:55This reduces the effective range on long journeys to around 300 to 400 kilometers,
03:00depending on driving style and charging behavior.
03:04In terms of performance, the performance variant with its two synchronous motors
03:08offers an impressive output of 517 horsepower and 910 newtonim of torque.
03:13This allows the X90 to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just under 5 seconds.
03:21However, the weight of 2.8 tons is noticeable, especially in curves.
03:27Despite technical measures such as tactoring on the rear axle,
03:30the driving experience remains more comfort-oriented than sporty.
03:34The optional adaptive dual-chamber air suspension works well,
03:39but according to users online, it could do with a slightly softer tuning.
03:45Active side stabilization and rear axle steering are not available,
03:49which further limits the handling of the large SUV.
03:51Inside, Volvo opts for a minimalist design with few physical buttons and knobs.
03:59A digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel and a head-up display
04:03provide all important information in the driver's field of vision.
04:08Operation via the 4.5-inch infotainment display,
04:11which is based on the Google operating system, is largely intuitive.
04:15However, the question arises as to whether functions such as steering wheel settings,
04:22mirror adjustments and parts of the seat adjustment really have to be controlled via the screen.
04:27Some users online find this cumbersome.
04:31The imitation leather called Nordico, which is used in the interior,
04:35receives mixed reactions.
04:37Without the optional seat cooling, it can be a bit uncomfortable on longer journeys.
04:41Many prefer Volvo's well-known wool seats,
04:45which are not available for the base model of the X90, however.
04:50The tinted glass roof is standard, but cannot be dimmed any further.
04:56Those who want more sun protection can purchase a sunshade as an accessory,
05:00which must be clipped in manually.
05:04The X90 offers ample space and comfort in the first two rows of seats.
05:08The third row of seats is more suitable for children than adults.
05:13Seating configurations with 5, 6 or 7 seats are available depending on requirements.
05:19The luggage compartment volume varies between 310 and up to 1915L,
05:23depending on the seating position.
05:26There is also a front trunk, the so-called frunk, which holds up to 34L.
05:30For those who need even more transport capacity,
05:36the X90 with all-wheel drive can tow a trailer weighing up to 2.2 tons.
05:42The rear-wheel drive version is limited to a towing capacity of 1.2 tons.
05:48Volvo sets high standards in terms of assistance systems and safety technologies.
05:52A speed sensor located on the roof indicates that future software updates
05:58should enable partially automated driving.
06:02However, some users online have voiced criticism.
06:07For example, with regard to the attention warning system,
06:10which reminds the driver to keep their eyes on the road
06:12even after a brief glance at the infotainment display.
06:15The lack of integration of the surround-view cameras
06:19into the blind-spot assistant has also been criticized,
06:22although this has already been implemented by other manufacturers such as Kia.
06:27It should be noted that the X90 will not be equipped with Apple CarPlay
06:31or a bi-directional charging function at market launch.
06:36These functions are to be added later via a software update.
06:41Some users also report teething problems
06:44such as occasional creaking noises in the rear seat area
06:46or unreliability of the NFC key on the smartphone.
06:52Such initial problems are not unusual for new models,
06:55but could give the impression that the first buyers are acting as beta testers.
07:02Delivery of the Volvo EX90 is set to begin in autumn 2024
07:06after a delay of almost a year due to software premieres.
07:11Despite the high prices and some points of criticism,
07:14the X90 offers an impressive overall package of technology,
07:17comfort and performance.
07:20For those interested in a fully electric SUV from Seabitzer,
07:24there are alternatives such as the Kia EV9,
07:26which scores in similar areas.
