Crowder torched his Pivot Podcast partner Fred Taylor this week for asking Kevin Durant to sign his player card. Hoch and Solana defend Fred but Crowder stands pat and criticizes the move.
Transcript
00:00I am so with Fred Taylor.
00:04I like Fred anyway.
00:07I am so down with Fred Taylor after watching the beginning of the pivot episode with Kevin Durant, which dropped yesterday.
00:16And my son was sending me clips this morning.
00:20I mean, he was all over the KD pivot.
00:23But Fred Taylor, do you see the beginning of the pivot?
00:27I haven't watched it yet.
00:27He never watched it.
00:29Fred Taylor starts.
00:32You know how they always show the guest walking in and they dap him up and, you know, it's the whole vibe.
00:37It's the whole vibe.
00:40Fred Taylor, before they get rolling.
00:44There's a little lull in the conversation.
00:48Because some guys come in and they're, you know, he was a little bit reserved when he came in.
00:52Like he was dapping everybody.
00:53Not like he was like, you know, I think he may have been a little trepidatious.
00:58As to what was to come.
01:00He's not the center of the party.
01:01Right.
01:01Yeah.
01:02Right.
01:02Yeah.
01:02He's nice, but he's not going to make a conversation.
01:06So Fred Taylor leans over and he goes, well, as long as no one's talking here, would you mind autographing this for me?
01:14KD brought a trading card and a Sharpie lane.
01:18And I thought it was the coolest thing.
01:20And so of course, Crowder and RC go all over Freddie T.
01:25They're like, what are you doing?
01:27He's just hanging out with us.
01:29And Fred Taylor, so right.
01:31He says, you don't get opportunities like this all the time.
01:36And you got to take advantage of your opportunities when they're in front of you.
01:40And he was saying, Hey, we're not going to be hanging out with Kevin Durant all the time.
01:43And this guy's one of my athletic heroes.
01:46I'm going to have him sign something.
01:48And I, I am so down with Fred.
01:51It's not lame.
01:52It's lame.
01:52You're a grown man.
01:54So what?
01:54You ask another grown man to give his time up, to come on your platform, to help you boost your views and likes and all.
02:02And he's going to ask him, can you fan boy out and sign my card?
02:05Yeah, it's so it shows you, Hey, I'm not only interviewing you for a podcast.
02:12I'm a fan.
02:14I'm fan enough to ask you to sign something for me.
02:18It's not like Fred does that for everybody.
02:20Hey, post me up.
02:21Let me see if I can handle you.
02:22That would be great, too.
02:23I think that would be funny as hell.
02:25It's lame to me.
02:26And then he goes back to, well, now, now I can, you know, show people I met Kevin Durant.
02:31And I was like, I have a video resume of all the famous people I've met now.
02:35But to have something signed, to have something signed from one of your athletic heroes, I just think is an opportunity you don't pass up.
02:43Not as a grown man.
02:44I had all my Lawrence Taylor stuff as a kid.
02:46Stop it.
02:47Now I'm a grown man.
02:48I see LT.
02:49What's up, bro?
02:49But you've got all the stuff you wanted already.
02:51It's in a closet somewhere.
02:53Nah, there's something cool about it, though, because you see it all the time.
02:56Like, athletes in maybe soccer will sign a jersey and send it to Tom Brady.
03:02Right.
03:02That's one Hall of Famer in Fred Taylor looking at another future Hall of Famer and saying, I'm a Hall of Famer.
03:10I think both future Hall of Famers.
03:11Both future Hall of Famers.
03:12I just want to make sure we have it right.
03:14Both future Hall of Famers.
03:16I'm a future Hall of Famer.
03:16I was excellent at my craft.
03:18And I respect and love the hell out of you so much.
03:22I would like your autograph.
03:24Fred's been through that grind.
03:26He's been at the top of his sport just like KD.
03:28I actually think it's complimentary.
03:29I think for you guys, you and RC, not to ask him for an autograph is an affront.
03:35Like, I think it's complimentary.
03:37When it's coming from a guy with the athletic accolades of Fred Taylor, like, I was a little miffed that Kevin Durant didn't ask him to sign something.
03:47Yeah, because he's not, because Kevin Durant's a grown man.
03:50To your point, Solana, I'll go the other way.
03:52Okay.
03:53I'm a person in Fred Taylor that has been annoyed my entire life with people begging me for an autograph.
04:00Now I'm going to hang out with the boys.
04:01Our platform is, you're just sitting around talking with the boys.
04:04You're just chilling, hanging out.
04:05You're talking about your life.
04:06We're talking about sports.
04:07Can you sign this, please?
04:09That's not the way you did it, though.
04:10It was a bitch move.
04:12It was not at all.
04:13I am such a fan of Freddie T.
04:15Wait until you watch.
04:16It was like, for me, that was heartwarming.
04:19Where Fred Taylor was like, because you knew what Crowder and RC were going to do.
04:22I knew what they were going to do.
04:24And Fred was like, didn't back down.
04:26He's like, no.
04:27You have opportunities in life.
04:28You want to make the most of your opportunities.
04:30How often am I going to sit here and vibe with Kevin Durant?
04:33I loved it.
04:34How about Kevin Durant giving me the unreleased KDs?
04:38That was badass, man.
04:40Dwayne Wade did that, and all you did was buck Lee Ning.
04:43Well, those were Lee Nings.
04:45I wear some Nikes.
04:46I still have those Lee Nings.
04:48What size do you wear?
04:49Whatever size you got.
04:51After you see the Dwayne Wade statue, you know how interested he is in design and how well
04:56things look.
04:57It kind of explains the Lee Nings a little bit.
04:59The thing is, if Crowder asked KD for an autograph, KD knows right away, oh, this jackass is
05:06selling this thing.
05:07Fred Taylor, though, is a little different.
05:10You're exactly right.
05:10Fred Taylor, it's like mano-a-mano, respect to respect.
05:13Crowder, he's going to sell that thing the second he gets the offer.
05:16Crowder came in with 17 8x10s.
05:19Solana, I'm sure you heard this story in all these years.
05:22When Jordan came to the facility, because Jason Taylor was signed with Jordan, and JT and
05:27Michael played golf together, Jordans and Davey, Grand Oaks is across the street.
05:33The golf course, Jordan played at Grand Oaks.
05:35He hits JT, long story short, where in meetings, Michael Jordan opens the linebacker room door
05:41and says, hey, y'all boys, I'm going to be in here sleeping.
05:43Like to joke around, you know Michael Jordan's voice.
05:46Joey Porter, it was a bunch.
05:48It was 7'8", inside linebacker, linebacker, whatever.
05:51Joey Porter jumps up like a bitch.
05:53Oh, my gosh.
05:55And runs out in the hallway.
05:56Everybody jumps up and runs out.
05:57The coach, Coach George Edwards, he gets up and scuttles out the room.
06:01That's right.
06:02To Jared Michael Jordan?
06:04Yes.
06:04For what?
06:05You know, there are several athletes who are so great at what they do.
06:11MJ, Shohei Otani, Kevin Durant, obviously Victor Wembanyama, Shaq.
06:18Like, you absolutely react differently around greatness.
06:24If Mozart walked in here, you don't just treat him like another man.
06:29And granted, he'd be wild.
06:31He's dead for so many years.
06:33But so you wouldn't be able to just treat him.
06:34All the people you went with, huh?
06:36You went with Mozart?
06:37Because I was trying to come up with someone who is not...
06:39The Vinci.
06:40Well, yeah.
06:40Not in the athletic world, but is so important to...
06:46Michelangelo.
06:47Right.
06:48And again, if he walked in, crazy.
06:50Like, you know, anybody's going to treat him special.
06:53Michel.
06:53Yeah.
06:54Michelangelo.
06:54You're talking about from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?
06:56Right.
06:56Yeah.
06:57The turtle.
06:57But yeah, MJ is one of those guys.
07:00Like, George Edwards should jump up.
07:02Joey Porter should jump up.
07:04To do what?
07:06To pay homage to someone who is better at what they do.
07:11I appreciate Shohei.
07:12I appreciate Jordan.
07:13I appreciate...
07:14Like, Dan Marino.
07:15I'm around him a lot now.
07:16You've been around there.
07:17Dan's a cool dude.
07:19Like, what do you...
07:20Why do you need to stand next to them to appreciate how great they are in the sport?
07:23Why do you need their autograph to appreciate that?
07:25I'm glad you bring that up.
07:26I've never asked a player, since I entered this business, for an autograph.
07:31I spent a lot of time, a lot of time around Dan Marino.
07:33I ask everybody for pictures.
07:35I never asked Dan for a picture, because I know he doesn't like pictures.
07:39Genuinely.
07:39Like, that's one thing everybody knows about Dan Marino.
07:41He doesn't like pictures.
07:42He doesn't like to sign autographs.
07:43Get over yourself, Marino.
07:45And I never asked him for a picture, even though I spent a number of evenings, you know,
07:51at the bar, whatever, traveling with the Finns, and I regret it every day.
07:55Yeah.
07:56Of course.
07:57I regret it every day.
07:58I have a picture with Marino, because I was with Arande, and Marino showed up, and obviously
08:03he's very friendly, and I'm like, well, we got to get a picture.
08:05And Arande's like, yeah, let's get a picture.
08:07And you show that picture to who?
08:09Yeah.
08:09I think you're internally weak.
08:11No, I'm internally strong.
08:13No, I think your persona is masking weakness.
08:17It's not.
08:17I've met the people.
08:18I remember meeting The Rock, and meeting Kevin Durant, and meeting Dwayne Wade.
08:25I spent more time with Shaq than my damn children.
08:28I don't think you do.
08:28Why do I need Shaq to sign something when I can call him when I get to Atlanta?
08:32This is why I like Fred Taylor better than you.
