In hour two, the window is officially closed with the Dolphins current roster but Stephen Ross was the only person to not realize it. Crowder asks the question we all want the answer to: now what?

00:00We have a lot to get to because Will Manso is going to join us this hour.
00:03I want to make sure we have enough time to talk to him.
00:06He's at the Mike McDaniel press conference, which started about 2.15, 2.20.
00:12I did see Marcel Louis Jacques tweet out Mike McDaniel on his conversation with Stephen Ross after the game.
00:22Now, I know Stephen Ross was at the game in Carolina yesterday, and so apparently they did speak after the game.
00:29The quote from Mike McDaniel is, he was really frustrated.
00:33We talked about the challenge ahead to get ready for the Chargers, and that was really the extent of it.
00:42It's bigger than X and O game plan to get ready for the Chargers.
00:47I mean, I wonder if Stephen Ross said to him, so how are you preparing to get ready for the Chargers next Sunday?
00:56Or if Mike McDaniel just looked at him and said, yeah, I don't have a lot to say after this one.
01:02We just got to get ready for the Chargers, and then they just kind of went their separate ways.
01:06Like, I'd like to know more details of that particular conversation.
01:11Yeah.
01:12One and four.
01:14Losing to mediocre teams.
01:16It's β so we beat the Jets, and they haven't won a game yet, and we lose to the Panthers.
01:25And the Patriots beat the Bills.
01:27That was just a stab in the gut last night.
01:30Well, watching Drake May play that way β what is he, year two?
01:35Year two, I guess, right?
01:36Yes, year two.
01:37Year one of Rabel, their five games, five games into year one of Rabel.
01:44They've already beaten the Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium with Drake May,
01:47and they've done something to a tongue of Iloa.
01:51And Mike McDaniel and Chris Greer have never been able to do β that's when a primetime game β
01:58but go into Buffalo and beat the Bills in their own house.
02:04Think about that.
02:05They've already surpassed the Dolphins in five games of the Mike Rabel era.
02:10In five games.
02:13That hurt me on the plane watching β
02:16Yeah.
02:17Watching a reset of what β this is Rabel's first year.
02:21First year.
02:23He's already beat the Bills in Buffalo, the Super Bowl favorite Bills,
02:27or Super Bowl favored Bills in Buffalo, right after we lose to the Carolina Panthers
02:32that have a third-grader playing quarterback.
02:34This is why Omar Kelly keeps coming on QAM.
02:39And you guys know I love Omar, but he keeps saying no matter what happens, you win.
02:43Because if the Dolphins win a game, they win a game.
02:46But if they lose, you're one step closer to what's inevitable,
02:51which is what a lot of fans want, guys.
02:53And that's a new head coach and a new regime.
02:55And I feel strongly against that notion because this shouldn't have taken five games this year
03:03for the obvious.
03:05This should have been done last year.
03:07This should have been done at the end of last season.
03:09And Stephen Ross waited, again, too long.
03:12Well, that's been Barry Jackson in the Herald.
03:16That's, like, been his point for a while is, hey, Stephen Ross,
03:19can you please care more about the product you're putting out there?
03:25And I'm not telling you whether I agree with Barry Jackson or not,
03:27but he has been adamant you can't witness what you're witnessing
03:33since you took over the team and think patience.
03:38There's a tweet.
03:40Let me get this tweet for a second.
03:41It was from Barry Jackson.
03:42I thought it was interesting.
03:44This is 15 minutes of Game Day Uncensored, by the way.
03:47I'll couch it as that.
03:4815 minutes of Game Day Uncensored brought to you by the Lexus TX.

03:55Experience amazing at your Lexus dealer.
03:58You can hear Game Day Uncensored with Tobin, Solana, Omar Kelly at 9 a.m. Sunday.
04:04Is there a new addition to the show, too?
04:06Did I make that up, or did you say that on the air the other day?
04:10I think I announced it on Friday.
04:11Chris Perkins from the South Florida Sun-Sentinel will have Omar.
04:14We'll have Perk.
04:16That's all happening this upcoming Sunday.
04:19All right, cool.
04:209 a.m., 1043 FM, WQAM.
04:23Let me find this.
04:25Tweet from Barry Jackson.
04:27He posted,
04:28Patience isn't always a virtue.
04:31Kraft knew Belichick was done and dumped him.
04:35New Mayo was a mistake and corrected it after a year.
04:39Remember, they had Gerard Mayo for one season.
04:42New Mayo was a mistake, corrected it after a year,
04:45and hired a coach who exudes the toughness that the Dolphins have lacked for years.
04:50And there's something to be said for that because I'm a proponent of being patient.
04:55I'm a proponent of stability is what makes organizations great.
05:00I point to the heat with that all the time, right?
05:03The stability, even when LeBron, LeBron James was saying, hey, maybe Spoh's not the guy.
05:11Remember year one, the stability for me makes an organization great.
05:16And the Marlins have not had stability.
05:19Like, you can go on and on.
05:20The Panthers finally seem to have some stability.
05:23And they're, you know, going out of their way to re-sign guys.
05:25Connor McDavid, by the way, re-signed with Edmonton today for two more seasons.
05:29There was some notion after the ouster that he would leave, but he is not.
05:36But Barry Jackson's saying, okay, patience not always a virtue.
05:42Sometimes you have to recognize that you're bleeding, the fans are unhappy,
05:48the product is inferior, and it ain't getting any better.
05:52Like the stability, Hawk, but staying married in a terrible marriage just to be stable,
05:59like stability is something like you have to be good at it.
06:04You have to be helpful.
06:05You have to be loving in that marriage.
06:06You can't just be there to be there because we've been there for five years.
06:12Vrabel, what he just did in his five games, but they beat the Bills in Buffalo.
06:16What Shane Steichen, this is his third year,
06:20and they're one of the best teams in the AFC right now, 4-1.
06:23Like, it was 23.
06:27We always bring up 2023, 70-point game, number one offense, all that.
06:31It's starting to look like that was the McDaniel outlier more than what to expect.
06:36Which is funny because I thought that was more representative of who they were going to be.
06:41I didn't think that was the outlier, but you're correct.
06:43It is the outlier.
06:45Crowder, look how many teams β like, we can point to β
06:47and I know the circumstances are different everywhere.
06:49I'm not trying to say that, you know, because one team had success X way
06:55that the Dolphins can have success that same way.
06:58Look, you have to get lucky.
07:00Things have to go your way.
07:01And for the Dolphins, a lot of time β Hawk, Barry Jackson points this out β
07:05there's also a case of just a lot of unlucky bleep as well.
07:09But Crowder, the Denver Broncos, the team the Dolphins put up 70.
07:14New coach, new quarterback.
07:16They've committed to building the defense.
07:18They just beat the Eagles on the road.
07:20We've talked about the Lions how many times.
07:23Building within the trenches, going with a new coach that they trust,
07:26and now they're in a Super Bowl window.
07:29The Commanders got rid of everybody in that organization,
07:32and within two years, a bit of luck, they hit on the quarterback.
07:35But they put themselves in that position.
07:38Now they're Super Bowl contenders.
07:39The Patriots, with Drake May, and they went,
07:43they got their head coach in Mike Rabel.
07:46Now they look like they're a team that, at the very least,
07:48is going to contend for the playoffs for the next few years.
07:50There's example after example of teams who realize,
07:55we're spinning our wheels.
07:56Let's jump off early and salvage the situation.
08:00But the Dolphins never do.
08:02The Dolphins in my lifetime just wait until it's too late to get off the wagon.
08:07And you're in that position again, and you're 1-5.
08:11You have awful structure, and your contract situation is crippling.
08:17Now what?
08:19And to bring up something Hawk said, I thought about it.
08:21We said that Robert Kraft, he saw one year Jared Mayer and was like,
08:26no, no, no, that's not how it is.
08:28But, Hawk, think about, fellas, think about what he saw for the last 20.
08:32He watched what Belichick could do.
08:34He saw what great coaches do with organizations.
08:37So when Mayo came in, he said, that's not how it's done.
08:41What has Stephen Ross been looking at?
08:43Stephen Ross has seen Sperano, Philbin, Gase, Flores.
08:48He doesn't know what a good coach looks like.
08:51He's looking, though.
08:53And he was trying to go get Tom Brady.
08:55He looked at what New England was doing, and he said, you know what?
08:57I just want to do what they're doing.
08:59Come meet me on my boat.
09:00He wanted Tom Brady and Lamar Jackson.
09:03Seems like he knows talent when he sees it.
09:07But the Buccaneers missed out.
09:10I'm sorry.
09:10The Buccaneers, after the Dolphins missed out on Tom Brady, got Tom Brady,
09:14won a Super Bowl, and since then had been perennial playoff contenders
09:18with Baker, Mother, Bleep, and Mayfield.
09:21Yeah, but do you attribute that to great front office acumen, or did Baker Mayfield
09:31happen to be available after they lost Tom Brady and they took a flyer on Baker Mayfield
09:36the way someone takes a flyer on Carson Wentz or Geno Smith or whatever, Sam Darnold?
09:42Sometimes it works out.
09:43Sometimes it doesn't.
09:44Like, do you think that they had tapped Baker Mayfield as their next great quarterback,
09:51who, by the way, could be my favorite player in the NFL right now?
09:56He was so much fun yesterday to watch.
09:59Again, there's some backstory video circulating on social media because he was getting into
10:05it before the game with some of the Seahawks fans, and he found them after the game to give
10:10them a little more abuse after what they witnessed out on the field.
10:14But I think I saw Peter Schrager this morning on first take saying Baker Mayfield might be
10:18the MVP right now of the league, might be the front runner for league MVP right now.
10:26And Daniel Jones is right behind him.
10:30Think about that.
10:31But again, like you, and obviously Shane Steichen chose Daniel Jones over Anthony Richardson,
10:37which I thought was not a great decision at the beginning of the season.
10:41But again, to my point, Solana, like getting Daniel Jones after he's done with the Giants,
10:48getting Baker Mayfield after he's done with Cleveland and Carolina, I don't even know if
10:53he was somewhere else after that.
10:55Like, is that great front office acumen or are you just stumbling into something lucky?
11:02You're right.
11:02They took a flyer on Baker.
11:04It worked, but I think they can also look at guys.
11:09They didn't take flyers on and say, you know what?
11:11That's not going to work.
11:12And I think the, the, the Buccaneers were in a situation where they're like, let's move
11:17on.
11:17New era has to start now.
11:19And that to me is as important as hating on a flyer.
11:24Sometimes you miss on a flyer when you know, it's time to turn the page.
11:28And I think that's one of the biggest shortcomings of Chris Greer and Steven Ross more than anything
11:33is that they don't know when to turn the page, when to flip the script and say, this is done.
11:40We must move forward.
11:41Somebody texts in to your point, Solana, the Denver Broncos with Russell Wilson, they ate
11:47$40 million because they recognized he's not for us.
11:52We're done with him and they're in a pretty good spot right now.
11:57Denver had a nice little comeback last, uh, yesterday afternoon in the fourth quarter
12:01against Philadelphia.
12:02It doesn't mean Denver is what you want to be.
12:04Like, I'm not saying the Dolphins should aspire to be the Denver Broncos, but wouldn't
12:08you rather not be the Miami Dolphins and be the Denver Broncos right now?
12:13Since that 70 point performance where the Dolphins beat the Broncos, look up the record
12:17between the two teams and the Broncos are in a much better spot and have been significantly
12:24better.
12:25They're building something.
12:26The Dolphins window closed two years ago and they're still like, oh, well, maybe.
12:31Well, but again, when you say they're building something, has Denver won a playoff game?
12:36They beat the Eagles and they were in the playoffs last year, but if they want to Eagles on the
12:41road, no, no, no, I got you.
12:43I got you.
12:43I'm just asking if they want to play off game because I could make the analogy that, um,
12:49uh, uh, what's his name?
12:50I'm drawing a blank.
12:51No, no, no, no.
12:53Sean Payton, Sean Payton and Bo Nix are on this trajectory that it looked like Mike McDaniel
12:59and Tua were on, which is they're winning games.
13:03And it looks like that because that, that is the case for the beginning of the era.
13:09Yeah.
13:09But I guess it's so, it's so much younger than our era.
13:14We're, we're five years in.
13:16No, no, no.
13:16We're beyond like, but I'm saying the beginning it like the, where Bo Nix and Sean Payton are
13:22right now.
13:23I think we may have looked at, if you do it, I don't know how many games they've been together,
13:27right?
13:28Is it a full season last season?
13:30Yeah.
13:30So 20, 20, 22, 20, play the season before that.
13:34Did Bo Nix play the season before that?
13:36Is this year three of Bo Nix?
13:38I thought he was, I think it's year three of Sean Payton, but I'm not certain it's year
13:41three of Bo Nix being the starter.
13:43I thought Bo Nix was a rookie last year and he started last year.
13:48He started from game one.
13:50Yeah.
13:50Remember last year, Russ was in Pittsburgh.
13:55They jumped off the Russ train two seasons prior in 2023.
13:59Hadn't they had Bo Nix on the, on the roster that season with Russ?
14:03No, no.
14:04I, I believe, correct me if I'm wrong chat, but I believe that I'm looking it up.
14:08They drafted him last year, 12th overall, which was one of the reasons they, they jumped
14:13ship on Russ because he was going to put them in better positions to win.
14:17And they're saying, no, no, no, no, no.
14:19We don't want to win.
14:20We want a better draft pick.
14:2122 starts, 17 last year, five this year, 13 and nine.
14:27Yeah.
14:29And beating the defending champions.
14:31Right.
14:32But all I would say to you is look at Tua and McDaniel, 22 games in together.
14:36You might've felt the same way that you do about Payton and Bo Nix right now.
14:40But about Payton, Payton is a Superbowl champion.
14:43Correct.
14:44He's already got goods.
14:45And they said he just passed, who'd he pass?
14:47Bill Parcells with wins as a head coach with the win against the Eagles.
14:52Mike McDaniel wears nice shoes on the sideline and pretty glasses.
14:59Look good in San Fran, man.
15:02I just, maybe we just go out and get Debo.
15:06If the window is closed.
15:09So you said it, Hawk, the window's closed.
15:12I believe it.
15:13I'll say it.
15:14The window's closed on this, on this quarter, on this roster quarterback, head coach combo.
15:21And I think Chris Greer is attached to this.
15:24What are we doing now?
15:26What are we trying to get a lower draft pick?
15:28I don't know.
15:29I don't know.
15:29That's the million dollar question.
15:31You know, for me, for my money, and I know listeners aren't going to want to hear this.
15:35I don't think Tua is a problem right now.
15:39I think you have much greater problems.
15:40I think it's McDaniel and Greer.
15:42I think Tua was pretty decent yesterday.
15:45Again, I know the final drive where you need to come back and win, even though you've already come back and won.
15:53If the defense can stop Bryce Young, Tua had a great bomb to Jalen Waddell.
16:01It was beautiful.
16:02People complain.
16:03Oh, it was short.
16:04He had to.
16:05What's the difference?
16:05Guy waltzed into the end zone.
16:07Waltzed into the end zone.
16:10Tua on that final drive over.
16:12There should have been a pick on that final drive.
16:15If we'd have gone bananas, Jalen Waddell actually ended up playing defense on that errant throw and was able to kind of bat it down.
16:24But I don't think Tua, for me, is like this urgent problem right now.
16:30The biggest problem with him is he can't extend a play.
16:33And you notice it.
16:34When you watch other quarterbacks, you notice how they're able to extend a play, even by the threat of running.
16:43That's my biggest problem with Tua right now.
16:45I watched Bryce Young roll out to create that throw to the sideline late in the third quarter, early fourth.
16:52I watched, damn, Drake May and Josh Allen.
16:57They running around like Michael Vick.
16:59How about the Drake May dime at the end that he probably shouldn't have even thrown?
17:04Like, that was incredible.
17:07On the move.
17:08Yep.
17:09Tua doesn't do anything on the move.
17:12Name all the top quarter.
17:13Bo Nix, watching that game.
17:15Jalen Hurts, watching that game.
17:17If we go through the league, you name all the quarterbacks that you're impressed by, they do stuff on the move.
17:23That third down sack that Tua took was Eben and Yaya just got ran past like he was a baby sitting in a stroller.
17:30He couldn't.
17:31He just balls up.
17:33Yeah.
17:33He doesn't even try to escape, evade, duck, spin, rip, disappears.
17:39You know, act like jump at him like you're going to punch him and see if he flinches.
17:43Do something.
17:44He just, the guy comes, he balls up.
17:47Fourth and 17.
17:49He can't though.
17:51He can't.
17:52Because even on plays where he extends the drive, Baker Mayfield is putting his shoulder down.
17:58Sam Darnold even is putting his shoulder down.
18:01And they're not afraid of getting concussed.
18:03Maybe they will.
18:04But they're not afraid of it.
18:05But Tua is diving or falling short, giving himself up three, four yards before even the idea of getting contact on a play because he's being told to by everybody around him.
18:19And because he's looking out for his livelihood, which I respect, but it's not conducive to winning a football game.
18:24It's just not.
18:25Not even.
18:27And I'm with you, too.
18:28He doesn't want to get hit.
18:29And honestly, I've argued that he shouldn't want to get hit because if he gets hit now, now Quinn Ewers or Zach Wilson in the game, we're going to look really, really bad.
18:37They're not throwing for 350 yards.
18:38Neither one of them will get beat by 20 if they were in the game.
18:42I don't think he's athletic enough right now to do what those quarterbacks, not even the fear of injury is just not cannot.
18:50He's not physically capable to do what Bo Nix, Drake May, Josh Allen.
18:55He can't do that.
18:56He's talked about the way it which, by the way, though, is OK when you have protection and a running game like it's OK to be that guy if all the other pieces fall into place.
19:09But if you're running for your life the entire time and you can't run for your life, that's a problem.
19:16Run for your life with with with ankle braces and knee braces on the only guys that can play to his game that have the protection to that.
19:24I see Jared Goff is not athletic at all.
19:27And Matt Stafford doesn't even try to move around.
19:30But those guys can get hit, dude.
19:32Those guys.
19:32By the way, though, free money to a rushing over hit again.
19:36Had it at over one and a half.
19:38Yes, they had five yards on one little run up the middle that stopped too short, by the way.
19:43But still, he got his five yards.
19:45Don't hold five like it's impressive.
19:48Five yards.
19:50Five yards.
19:51It was another green ticket in my wallet.
19:54Four yards.
19:54I know.
19:54So let's see.
19:55Six yards.
19:55We have his seven yards.
19:56That was eight yards.
19:56We have the two Meth-log on the back is so bad.
19:57All right.
19:57No.
19:58100 yards.
19:59Although he is a jerk.
19:59We have to nope kind of pull up that six yards on that line.
20:00All right.
20:02So let's guess what goes for.
20:02But make me use the type ofosi capacitativity which scores you put at the home of the
20:05markets that didn't interview me for.
20:06I know exactly how the guy that I'm talking about writing that takes.
20:07But you make sure that I look into the fact of the conteΓΊdo as taught people that I look at this Π³ΠΎΠ΄Π°.
20:09So what is it actually going to do?
20:10Yeah?
20:11The inhabitants of that are gonna look like it.
20:12So let's say that.
