00:00While announcing the deployment of California Highway Patrol officers to cities across the state to combat crime,
00:06Governor Gavin Newsom accused President Trump of blatant hypocrisy for deploying National Guard troops to Democrat-led communities
00:13as he asserted there are higher crime rates in some Republican-led communities.
00:18Newsom also suggested his approach is in contrast to that of Trump's.
00:22He's doing things to people, not with people. It's a point of profound and consequential contrast.
00:32He's the fact of militarizing American cities.
00:36The criticism comes a day after Newsom warned Trump will likely seek a third term during a political forum Wednesday
00:42and as he openly mocks the president on social media.
00:46Newsom says he expects a court decision on the legality of Trump's deployment of federal troops to Los Angeles soon
00:52adding that the implications will be far-reaching in terms of presidential authority.
00:57The governor also highlighted flyers showing prominent Republicans next to their state's crime statistics
01:03including House Speaker Mike Johnson and Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves.
01:07Just consider Speaker Johnson's state and district.
01:12Just look at the murder rate that's nearly four times higher than Californians in Louisiana.
01:19If the president is sincere about the issue of crime and violence, there's no question in my mind
01:25that he'll likely be sending the troops into Louisiana and Mississippi to address the unconscionable wave of violence
01:36that continues to plague those states.
01:38The Trump administration argues that Democratic leaders are refusing to work with the federal government
01:44and says its efforts in the nation's capital are working.
01:47The White House says Americans and Washington, D.C.'s leaders are rallying behind the president's
01:52quote, crime crackdown.
