00:44Good morning, I'm Craig DeGrelli.
00:46We begin this morning with the dramatic return of Jimmy Kimmel back on late night TV after a week-long suspension that sparked a national firestorm over free speech.
00:55Kimmel walked onto stage to a standing ovation and opened with a raw 15-minute monologue, addressing his comments about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, while taking aim at President Donald Trump and the Federal Communications Commission.
01:10Watch.
01:11I don't think what I have to say is going to make much of a difference.
01:14If you like me, you like me.
01:15If you don't, you don't.
01:16I have no illusions about changing anyone's mind.
01:18But I do want to make something clear because it's important to me as a human.
01:22And that is, you understand that it was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man.
01:29This show is not important.
01:31What is important is that we get to live in a country that allows us to have a show like this.
01:36Our freedom to speak is what they admire most about this country.
01:41And that's something I'm embarrassed to say I took for granted until they pulled my friend Stephen off the air and tried to coerce the affiliates who run our show in the cities that you live in to take my show off the air.
01:53That's not legal.
01:54That's not American.
01:55That is un-American.
01:57And it is so dangerous.
01:58The president of the United States made it very clear he wants to see me and the hundreds of people who work here fired from our jobs.
02:06Our leader celebrates Americans losing their livelihoods because he can't take a joke.
02:12You almost have to feel sorry for him.
02:15He did his best to cancel me.
02:17Instead, he forced millions of people to watch the show.
02:20That backfired bigly.
02:23He might have to release the Epstein files to distract us from this now.
02:28President Trump responding to Kimmel's return on Truth Social last night, slamming the host as not funny, a ratings liability, and accusing ABC of pushing, quote, 99% Democrat garbage.
02:41He then wrote, we're going to test ABC out on this.
02:44Let's see how we do.
02:45Now to a notable shift from President Trump, changing his tune on Moscow and the war in Ukraine.
02:52After months of suggesting Kyiv would have to give up land for peace, Trump now says Ukraine can win back all its territory.
02:59And he's calling for NATO to shoot down Russian aircraft that violate Alliance airspace.
03:05The comments came as Trump sat down with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly.
03:12When asked about NATO response to Russian airspace violations, Trump was blunt.
03:18Watch.
03:19Mr. President, do you think that NATO countries should shoot down Russian aircraft if they enter their airspace?
03:26Yes, I do.
03:26Later on Truth Social, Trump declared that Ukraine, backed by Europe, is in a position to fight and win all of Ukraine back in its original form.
03:36He called Russia a paper tiger, saying the war is bleeding Moscow dry.
03:41In Trump's speech earlier in the day, he took aim at some of the United Nations core priorities.
03:47He blasted global migration, called climate change, quote, the greatest con job ever, and urged nations to put strong borders above U.N. goals.
03:56It's time to end the failed experiment of open borders.
03:59You have to end it now.
04:01Let's see, I can tell you, I'm really good at this stuff.
04:04Your countries are going to hell.
04:07In America, we've taken bold action to swiftly shut down uncontrolled migration.
04:13Once we started detaining and deporting everyone who crossed the border and removing illegal aliens from the United States, they simply stopped coming.
04:21They're not coming anymore.
04:22We're getting a lot of credit, but they're not coming anymore.
04:24The speech drew silence from much of the room and sharp criticism from European allies, who warned his views on immigration and green energy could weaken the West.
04:35Dubbed as the strongest storm on the planet this year, Typhoon Ragasa is slamming parts of Asia with deadly force.
04:42The scenes are staggering.
04:44Hurricane force winds and torrential rain have triggered flash flooding across Taiwan.
04:49Dozens are dead, more than 150 people are still missing, and entire towns are underwater.
04:56In mainland China, nearly 2 million people have been evacuated as Ragasa barrels toward densely populated coastal cities.
05:03The storm also disrupted life in Hong Kong, a global financial hub where 100-mile-an-hour winds tore through high-rises and monstrous waves smashed into seaside hotels.
05:13Ragasa is the ninth typhoon to strike the region this year, far above the average of six, and forecasters say its impacts could be felt for days as the system churns inland.
05:26Hundreds of federal employees who were laid off when Elon Musk's Department of Government Deficiency slash jobs are now being asked to come back.
05:34The Associated Press reports the General Services Administration has given former staff who manage government workspaces until the end of the week to decide if they will return.
05:44An internal memo obtained by the AP says anyone who accepts must report for duty October 6th, after what has amounted to a seven-month paid vacation for many.
05:54The GSA reinstatements are part of a broader rehiring push across agencies targeted by doge cuts, including at the IRS and the Labor Department.
06:04It's not just Jimmy Kimmel's return making headlines at Disney this week.
06:08The company is also hiking its streaming prices.
06:11Disney announcing Tuesday that starting October 21st, Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN plans will all cost more.
06:18Let's have a look.
06:19The basic Disney Plus plan goes from $9.99 a month to $11.99 a month.
06:25The ad-free version up to $18.99.
06:27The Disney Plus bundle with Hulu goes up to $12.99 a month for the base plan and $19.99 a month for ad-free.
06:36And the Disney Plus, Hulu, and ESPN bundle plan increases to $19.99 a month and $29.99 a month.
06:44The timing is tough for Disney.
06:46Millions of subscribers canceled their plans in protest after ABC, owned by Disney, suspended Kimmel's show last week.
06:53Disney reversed course on Monday, but the subscription boycott highlighted just how quickly viewers can walk.
07:00The company says the price hike puts them in line with competitors like Netflix and Apple.
07:05Finally this morning, this is really cool.
07:07A fossil find in Argentina is turning heads.
07:11Not just a new dinosaur species, but evidence of its last meal.
07:15Listen to this.
07:16Scientists have unearthed a newly identified carnivore.
07:20They've nicknamed the Joaquin Raptor.
07:22The fossil was found with an ancient crocodile's leg still jammed between its jaws.
07:28In other words, the dinosaur ate the crocodile.
07:31I mean, it's something you'd see on Animal Planet.
07:33The predator belongs to a group called Megaraptorans, known for long skulls and giant hooked claws.
07:40Researchers say it's one of the most complete skeletons ever recovered from the group,
07:45offering rare insight into these mysterious hunters.
07:49The dinosaur is believed to have lived 66 to 70 million years ago.
07:53Around the same time, dinosaurs vanished.
07:56And tests show it was at least 19 years old when it died.
08:00It reminds me of this show back in the 1970s.
08:02It was called Land of the Lost.
08:03We used to watch it on Saturday mornings.
08:05This is true.
08:06There was this family that was lost, and they were in this, like, cave, tree fort.
08:10And the only way out was to get past this dinosaur.
08:12So they used to use this log to try and jam it in the dinosaur's mouth and get away.
08:17It was the same story every Saturday.
08:19We used to watch to see if the family got away and lived.
08:22All right, before we head out, here's what we're tracking today.
08:25At noon, Secretary of State Marco Rubio sits down with Russia's foreign minister at the U.N.
08:30At two, family members whose loved ones died in that midair collision between an American Airlines jet
08:36and a Blackhawk helicopter back in January make an announcement.
08:40Later in New York, Kamala Harris continues her publicity tour for her new memoir, 107 Days.
08:46And at 7, the president hosts his latest Rose Garden Club event at the White House.
08:50You bring the coffee, we'll bring the context.
