00:46Hello everyone, I'm Kaylee Carey, in today for Craig Negrelli.
00:51We begin with a memorial for slain conservative activists
00:54and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
00:57Drawing tens of thousands of supporters, including President Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance.
01:03Kirk was remembered as a martyr by speakers ranging from the president and vice president
01:08to his widow Erica and other prominent conservatives.
01:11They praise his faith and his mission to move American politics further to the right.
01:17You know, I can't help but think that they tried to silence my friend Charlie Kirk.
01:25They tried to silence our dear friend Charlie Kirk.
01:28And today, tonight, we speak with Charlie and for Charlie louder than ever.
01:35He transformed the face of conservatism in our own time.
01:40And in doing so, he changed the course of American history.
01:44Trump called Kirk an American hero, crediting him with helping deliver the 2024 election
01:50and saying his killing was an attack on the nation itself.
01:54He was a missionary with a noble spirit and a great, great purpose.
02:00He did not hate his opponents.
02:02He wanted the best for them.
02:05That's where I disagreed with Charlie.
02:07I hate my opponent and I don't want the best for them.
02:12I'm sorry.
02:14The gun was pointed at him, but the bullet was aimed at all of us.
02:18That bullet was aimed at every one of us.
02:20But it was Erica Kirk who delivered the most emotional remarks,
02:25even extending forgiveness to her husband's killer.
02:27That man, I forgive him.
02:38I forgive him because it was what Christ did and is what Charlie would do.
02:47The answer to hate is not hate.
02:51The answer we know from the gospel is love and always love.
02:55The 31-year-old Kirk was shot and killed on September 10th while speaking at Utah Valley University.
03:03The suspect, a 22-year-old man, has been charged with aggravated murder.
03:08Now to a major diplomatic shift.
03:11Three of America's closest allies, Britain, Canada, and Australia,
03:15have formally recognized a state of Palestine.
03:17France is expected to follow today at the UN, and Portugal has already joined them.
03:22The announcements come amid growing outrage over Israel's war in Gaza,
03:26where health officials say more than 65,000 Palestinians have been killed since 2023.
03:32British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the move is meant to revive hope for a two-state solution,
03:38while Canada and Australia made similar declarations in rapid secession.
03:42We are acting to keep alive the possibility of peace and a two-state solution.
03:51That means a safe and secure Israel alongside a viable Palestinian state.
03:58At the moment, we have neither.
04:02Israel's reaction was swift.
04:04Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said a Palestinian state will not be established,
04:09calling the decision a, quote, reward for terror.
04:11At the UN, more than 140 countries have now recognized Palestinian statehood,
04:17but the United States is in budging.
04:19The Trump administration remains firmly opposed,
04:22vowing to veto any push for full Palestinian membership at the UN Security Council.
04:28New tensions with the Taliban,
04:30and it centers on one of the most symbolic bases of America's longest war.
04:34The Taliban on Sunday rejected President Trump's bid to retake Bagram Air Base
04:39four years after the U.S. withdrew from Afghanistan.
04:42Trump said this weekend, the U.S. is talking to Afghanistan about getting it back,
04:47and warned in a post that if they don't cooperate, quote,
04:49bad things are going to happen.
04:52The Taliban fired back, calling the comments unrealistic and saying,
04:55seeding even an inch of their soil is impossible.
04:58Bagram has been a symbol of America's exit,
05:01with the Taliban last year staging a military parade there using abandoned U.S. hardware.
05:07Trump has hammered former President Biden for that chaotic withdrawal,
05:11and now says America needs a footprint back in Afghanistan.
05:15The Trump administration is set to make a major announcement today on autism.
05:20Reports say federal health officials will warn pregnant women against using Tylenol,
05:25also known as acetaminophen, except for high fevers.
05:29The guidance comes after studies suggest a possible link to autism.
05:32The president hinted at the move last night while speaking at Charlie Kirk's memorial.
05:37It was Charlie who helped unite MAGA, and you know what M-A-H-A is?
05:45That's right, make America healthy again.
05:49And tomorrow we're going to have one of the biggest announcements,
05:53really medically, I think, in the history of our country.
05:57We're going to be doing it with Bobby and Oz and all of the professionals.
06:03I think you're going to find it to be amazing.
06:07I think we found an answer to autism.
06:10How about that? Autism.
06:13Politico reports Trump will also spotlight Leucovorin,
06:16a drug usually prescribed for cancer and anemia,
06:19as a potential new treatment for autism.
06:22New questions this morning about how the Justice Department
06:25handled a secret sting operation involving President Trump's border czar.
06:29MSNBC was first to report that Tom Homan was recorded back in 2024,
06:34accepting a bag with $50,000 in cash from undercover FBI agents posing as businessmen.
06:41The agents claim he agreed to help them land government contracts if Trump won the election.
06:46The case began under the Biden administration, but was shut down soon after Trump took office.
06:52The New York Times reports that FBI Director Cash Battelle and Todd Blanche,
06:56the deputy attorney general, said in a statement they found no credible evidence of wrongdoing
07:01and that Homan never held contract authority.
07:04But critics say it raises serious questions about whether the Justice Department is being used
07:09to protect Trump's inner circle.
07:12And finally this morning, astronomers have discovered a new quasimoon orbiting Earth
07:16that may have gone unnoticed for decades.
07:19A quasimoon is a space rock that appears to orbit a planet, but really orbits the sun.
07:24This one, dubbed 2025N7, moves in step with Earth, taking a year to complete its loop around the sun.
07:31At about 50 feet across, PN7 may be the smallest quasimoon ever found.
07:37Its origin is still a mystery, unlike some nearby asteroids that come from the belt between Mars
07:41and Jupiter or from debris knocked off our own moon.
07:45And this won't be around forever.
07:47Scientists say PN7 will likely drift away in the next 60 years.
07:51Before we head out, here's what we're tracking today.
07:55At 1230, NASA introduces its newest astronauts and engineers,
07:59chosen from more than 8,000 applicants, and set to help chart the next missions to the moon.
08:04At 1, the gunman accused of opening fire at a New Hampshire country club Saturday night faces a judge.
08:10At 4, Trump will make remarks on autism.
08:13He'll head to the U.N. in New York later today, ahead of his speech tomorrow.
08:17And tonight, Mecklenburg County Republicans hold a candlelight vigil at the light rail station
08:22where Irina Zarutska was fatally stabbed last month.
