00:00With 12 games left in their season and their playoffs hopes on the line,
00:04the Mets are making some well-needed changes to their pitching rotation.
00:08So according to manager Carlos Mendoza,
00:10the next time we see a Sean Minaya outing, he'll be coming out of the bullpen.
00:14So the team is off on Monday or today before opening a new series
00:18against the Padres on Tuesday.
00:21So that gave Mendoza the time and flexibility to make the move
00:24that we've all been speculated for quite some time now.
00:27Clay Holmes is a scheduled starter for the series opener and Minaya would follow him.
00:33So after the Mets 5-2 win over the Rangers on Sunday,
00:36Mendoza spoke to the media and addressed questions about how and when Minaya could be used
00:42but indicated there isn't a real script in place for his usage.
00:46Minaya, without a doubt, has been the rotation's weak link this entire season
00:51after coming back from injury.
00:53Overall, he's pitched to a 5.76 ERA in 11 appearances.
00:58Ten of those have been starts.
01:00In his last start last week against the Phillies,
01:03he allowed four on runs in the first two innings
01:06before receiving a pep talk from Mendoza,
01:09but then he did rebound to pitch the next three scoreless.
01:12Now Mendoza didn't announce the rest of his rotation for the week,
01:15but David Peterson and Jonah Tong are in position
01:18to follow Holmes in the Padres series.
01:20Sunday's win gave the Mets a one-and-a-half game edge over the Giants
01:25for the final in a wildcard spot of 12 games left in the regular season.
