00:00Joel Sherman back with three things I'm thinking about and the first one is what a bad turn this was around the rotation for the Yankees
00:08as far as figuring out who their number three starter is for a first round series and a three and four if they go beyond this
00:16behind Max Fried and Carlos Rodon.
00:19This began Sunday night when Will Warren gave up six runs in the first inning to the Red Sox
00:24and was a reminder Red Sox, Dodgers, Blue Jays the teams with the good offenses have really beaten up Will Warren
00:31and it's going to be obvious in the postseason you're going to see the teams with the best offenses
00:37it's not going to be Tuesday night against the White Sox so I'm not sure Warren's going to be able to be used as a starter
00:43and the guys who have the stuff who are Cam Schlittler and Luis Heal
00:47the Yankees won the past two nights against the Twins but they almost blew big leads both games
00:53and they almost blew big leads for the same reason Schlittler and Hill couldn't hold on to those leads
00:58and even get through five innings and it's because when they have big stuff but they especially Hill
01:05walks too many guys and Schlittler walked a lot of Twins the other day and you know you're going to have to
01:10start about worrying about Schlittler's innings how he's going to handle it down the stretch
01:14if Schlittler and Hill dominate the strike zone they might be fine to be able to handle three and four in the rotation
01:23but I think there's going to be big questions I'll tell you something an executive said to me recently
01:28he said once you get to the postseason got to be able to throw the ball over the plate and win
01:32he said the postseason isn't just for the best players the best umpires end up there also
01:37and it's guys who are going to make you throw it over the plate
01:39I think it's part of a bigger overall issue with the Yankees which is
01:43they've never really gotten their bullpen straight this year either
01:46especially in the second half one guys up one guys down two guys up two guys down
01:52uh do they're going to need 10 pitchers going somewhat well of 13 uh can they find those 10
01:59and that will include who who are the back end guys here who are the number three and potentially
02:04number four starters um number two it isn't like the Mets have uh their rotation and their pitching
02:11unit figured out either uh I think that was kind of re-emphasized against the Padres on Wednesday
02:17night David Peterson was an all-star this year he had a very uh good first half last eight starts the
02:23Mets are two and six in those starts and Peterson has a 759 uh ERA there's always worries if he has
02:31enough swing and miss stuff for October the Padres are a team that puts the ball in play but still one
02:37strikeout only for uh Peterson against the Padres I wonder if we saw the beginning of uh what the
02:44Mets are going to do the rest of this year and in the postseason again if they get there when Clay
02:48Holmes and Sean Minaya uh piggybacked uh an entire nine innings on Tuesday uh are they able to get
02:56Kodai Senga up at some point I think the next three days are a fascinating three days Jonah Tong
03:02uh Brandon Sprode and uh Nolan McClain pitch in order I think at this point McClain if the Mets
03:09don't need those last three games of the season and can line it up perfectly for the Tuesday that
03:13will open the wild card I think McClain is game one starter the the only guy they can truly trust
03:19right now and they're in a little bit of an audition period to see do they use either either of the
03:25other rookies both of the other rookies do they go piggyback what does Senga give them if and when he
03:30comes back um I think there's a lot of teams in this boat but I think both New York teams right now
03:37don't know the full identity of their pitching staffs especially their rotations as we head towards
03:42October let me close this out with number three uh Cody Bellinger hit a two-run homer off of uh
03:48Genesis Cabrera on uh Wednesday night uh it was another lefty pitcher and look there's been a lot
03:56impressive things about Cody Bellinger this year it's almost the opposite what hasn't he been
04:02impressive at you know fielding base running hitting hitting for power but I just want to
04:07highlight that I think his hitting left on left this year is as impressive as anything about him
04:13and maybe the most impressive thing that that that home run took his batting average to 364 and 158
04:20plate appearances against lefty pitching this year the last time somebody if he finishes at 364 just to
04:26give you an idea and we're near the end of the season now last left-hand hitter to hit better than
04:31that with at least 150 plate appearances against lefty pitching that would be Ichiro Suzuki 404 in
04:372004 that was the year he had 262 hits and set the major league record if you're wondering what kind
04:45of path Bellinger's on he has 1034 OPS uh the last left on left again this is all going to be with 150
04:52plate appearances against lefties one a blast from the past a name from the past 2006 Travis Hafner
04:58was at 1100 how about in Yankee history last time somebody hit 364 or better it's only happened twice
05:05with 150 plate appearances Lou Gehrig hit 364 in 1937 and Babe Ruth hit 378 in 1932 so right now he's tied
05:14with Garrick uh Bellinger and behind roof and 1064 OPS last Yankee to do better left on left 150 plate
05:22appearances Charlie Keller 1064 1941 Cody Bellinger's made himself a lot of money this year
