00:00All right, it's finally happened.
00:01The Mets have called up number five prospect Brendan Sproat
00:04in the middle of a playoff push as well.
00:07He's the third youngster that they've brought in
00:10to try and help fix this pitching rotation.
00:13Let's talk some Mets baseball and, of course, Sproat
00:15with Tyler Ward, your favorite Mets content creator.
00:19Wardy, I'm not trying to give you a big bobblehead or anything,
00:23but you called it when you were in studio.
00:26You called McLean, you called Tong, and now you've called Sproat.
00:30I guess just go ahead and tell the people, one,
00:33what Sproat's going to bring to this rotation,
00:35and two, talk about your greatness, man.
00:39I'll start with the latter.
00:40You're making me blush already.
00:42Thank you so much for that.
00:43I'm just happy that the things that we've been calling out
00:46and wanting for as Mets fans, I feel like I try to do my best
00:49to represent a good contingent of fans,
00:50and we've all been dying to see these kids get the call, right?
00:53McLean, we talked about this north of two months ago.
00:56Sproat, we talked about this a week and a half ago in studio.
00:58Jonathan, we did.
01:0048 hours later, Jonathan gets the call.
01:02Just or so, a week or so later, now Brandon Sproat gets the call,
01:06and I think in the case of Brandon Sproat,
01:08why Mets fans should be excited is that no stone is going unturned
01:12by David Sterns and his Mets team.
01:13They're finally realizing that we might just have our best pitching options
01:17with guys that haven't even towed the rubber much yet for us
01:20at the major league level.
01:21There is now a reality that we could see a McLean, a ton,
01:24and a Sproat all toe of the rubber potentially postseason play
01:27because as Carl's Mendoza has stated himself,
01:29it's going to come down to the best options,
01:31not necessarily the guys that have the track record to say,
01:34oh, they should be here.
01:35And what the Mets are getting in Brandon Sproat
01:36is a flamethrowing young right-hander
01:38who turns 25 just around a week or so from us talking right now.
01:43So this is a nice little early birthday present for Sproat,
01:45who skyrocketed in the farm last year for the Mets.
01:48Started in single A, got all the way to triple A.
01:50And there was even conversations last fall to suggest,
01:53should the Mets call up Brandon Sproat as a reliever
01:55because he's got electric stuff and he might as well utilize that arm.
01:58They decided not to.
01:59We fast forward to 2025,
02:01has some early struggles there as he's getting to alchemy
02:03at the triple A level.
02:04But if we go back over his past 10 starts,
02:07he has a 1.74 ERA.
02:09And what he's done so brilliantly is not only a fastball
02:11that touches 99, a 102 on the gun,
02:13but he's had such a greater approach
02:15against left-handed batters in particular.
02:17No more are we seeing Brandon Sproat go heavy sinker,
02:20sweeper against these lefties,
02:22which have really served up batting practice.
02:23He has since thrown in more change-ups,
02:25more curveballs,
02:26and he's gotten a lot more variation in his output
02:29because of that reason.
02:30We're seeing the moxie on the mound with a guy like Sproat.
02:32He's showing the confidence.
02:33He's not held back the way he looked in the first half
02:36like a kid who really didn't necessarily know
02:38what he was going to do every time on the towing the rubber.
02:40Since Francisco Alvarez,
02:42who will be returning to the Smets team soon,
02:43was getting some starts there,
02:45catching Sproat going back to July
02:47when he had his minor league assignment.
02:49We have seen a change in Sproat's game,
02:51his confidence,
02:52and now he's all set to impact the Mets,
02:54hopefully for the better now,
02:55this Sunday at the major league level.
02:57I love the confidence he has
02:59and these kids have in themselves.
03:01I love the confidence that you have in these guys.
03:04But we're talking about the show here.
03:06And this is September.
03:07We're getting closer and closer to October
03:09when things really matter.
03:11I mean, it's like when baseball really matters.
03:14There's a soon-to-be 25-year-old,
03:17a 24-year-old,
03:18and a 22-year-old in October baseball.
03:21Are they ready for the real show?
03:26That's a great question.
03:27And I think so far, yes, right?
03:29Noel McClain is the first starter
03:31since Chase Anderson in 2014
03:33to begin his major league career 4-0
03:35in the win-loss record.
03:37Kind of a big deal.
03:37Then you look at Joe Nitton.
03:39He looks brilliant in his first start
03:40for the Mets over this past calendar week.
03:42So, while there's a lot of uncertainty,
03:44the same thing can be said
03:45with this entire Mets rotation
03:47in Kodai Senga,
03:48who looks like he's going to either
03:49get sent down to the minor leagues,
03:51may get shifted to the bullpen,
03:52or maybe a fan of my Elston.
03:53I'm not exactly sure
03:54what's going to happen there yet.
03:55We await to find out.
03:56You look at Clay Holmes,
03:57a five-and-dive starter.
03:58Can't provide you length.
04:00Shamanai looks like he should have surgery already
04:02with that loose body in his elbow.
04:03Anything and everything has went wrong
04:05for these veterans,
04:06the strongholds in this Mets rotation.
04:08And because of that reason,
04:09they have nothing to lose at this point.
04:10That's why calling up Brandon Sprout,
04:12even if he does, unfortunately,
04:13maybe look more like batting practice
04:15and since he, this Sunday,
04:17at least you, at least you're getting a taste
04:18as to what you would be getting with him
04:20at the major league level.
04:21So, that way, you know,
04:22because the Mets have uncertainty right now.
04:24And those uncertainties have been paving the way
04:26for their great success
04:27that we have seen
04:27over this past calendar month
04:29between McClain, Tom,
04:30and now hopefully, Mr. Sprout.
04:32Carlos Mendoza has talked about
04:34being creative with the rotation.
04:36He's talked about a six-man rotation.
04:38Now that you've got these three officially up here,
04:41what would you do if you're Mendoza
04:43to that rotation, that starting rotation?
04:45Yeah, I mean, there's a lot of different routes
04:47you can go down here, right?
04:48But especially given the off days
04:50that the Mets have upcoming,
04:51as well as their current configuration,
04:53they can still continue their six-man rotation,
04:55should they wish,
04:55and make sure everyone gets that extra day's arrest,
04:58even if Kodai Senga isn't immediately in the scene
05:00in the rotation anymore.
05:01Or if they do say, I don't know,
05:03send down Kodai Senga,
05:05like they've been suggesting the past 48 hours,
05:07then they can go back to a five-man rotation
05:09if they really want to throw out
05:10their best options out there.
05:12And it may appear to actually go down that route
05:14barring changes,
05:15but as Mendy has stated himself
05:17over the past week and a half, two weeks,
05:19they're going about this on a start-by-start basis.
05:21So what we're seeing right now
05:22with David Peterson towing game one this Friday,
05:25Jonathan, game two,
05:27pardon me, Sprout, game three,
05:29this is ever-changing,
05:31depending on their results
05:32and how the Mets look beyond the weekend.
05:34So I don't think that they have anything
05:36truly formulized as to how they're going to go
05:37about the rotation beyond this weekend's end,
05:40but that's okay
05:41because it's one of those things
05:42where if you're going to go by a start-by-start basis,
05:44just see what you get.
05:45If you get the results you're happy with,
05:46awesome.
05:47If not, then you have your discussion
05:49with David Stearns again,
05:50and you move on from there
05:51to figure out what you're going to do
05:52with the rotation moving forward.
05:53Man, I'm going to change your name
05:54from Tyler Ward to Wardy Stearns.
05:57You called it, my friend.
05:58You called it.
06:00Thanks for hopping on with us, man,
06:01in such short notice.
06:03Thank you so much, Brandon.
06:04Always a pleasure.
