00:00It's the news every Giants fan prayed they wouldn't hear today, but they pretty much knew it was coming.
00:05According to a tweet from NFL insider Adam Schefter, an MRI today confirmed that Giants standout wide receiver Malik Neighbors
00:12suffered a season-ending torn ACL during Sunday's game versus the Chargers.
00:18Now this most recent non-contact injury has of course reignited the conversation and the outrage of if the turf at MetLife Stadium is cursed and should it be replaced.
00:29So back to the injury, the Pro Bowl wideout was carted off the field late in the second quarter after coming down awkwardly while trying to bring in a pass from Jackson Dart.
00:39The Giants now lose their most explosive playmaker on the team and top young receiving talent in the league.
00:46Now after Malik became the most recent Giants receiver or tight end as well as big-name player to go down with a ligament injury at MetLife Stadium,
00:55former Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. sent out a tweet pleading to the NFL to get rid of turf and make all playing fields grass only.
01:04He even referred to MetLife Stadium as Death Life Stadium.
01:08But is he wrong?
01:10The Giants have drafted six receivers and tight ends in the first two rounds since 2014.
01:15Five of six of those guys have suffered season-ending injuries at MetLife Stadium.
01:20Now those players joined the list of high-profile NFL guys like Nick Bosa, Solomon Thomas, Jabril Peppers, Cal Fuller, and Aaron Rodgers to also go down at MetLife.
01:33So the stadium currently uses artificial turf called Field Turf Core.
01:37And that underwent extensive durability testing at Penn State's Sports Surface Research Center.
01:43But players claim it doesn't respond the same way as grass, and it can even worsen injuries.
01:48And there's also concerns that it wears down faster, especially after non-football events like concerts.
01:55Now there are reports that MetLife is expected to switch to natural grass as early as next year in preparation for hosting the FIFA World Cup Final.
02:04But you hope that the NFL steps in and makes it final that MetLife Stadium uses grass for NFL events and games from 2026 and beyond.
