00:00Micah, McFadden, a couple days before the first preseason game, I guess.
00:04How does the body feeling?
00:06How do you feel the defensive unit looks so far 10 days into training camp?
00:10Yeah, feeling good.
00:11Body's holding up well throughout camp.
00:13Defense is looking good.
00:14I'm excited with the pieces we've added, the guys who have come back,
00:17and just the leadership, the guys who are stepping up and stepping into that role.
00:22But, yeah, I think we're getting there.
00:25Obviously, camp is that time to figure things out and progress.
00:28But, yeah, we're on the way for sure.
00:29We were talking about year two and learning Shane Bowen's defense.
00:32How comfortable do you guys feel so far?
00:35I feel pretty comfortable.
00:37You know, obviously, year one's a lot different than year two.
00:39And to be able to have the same guy coming back and to build on top of what we did last year,
00:43correct, improve, make the changes, I think we're doing that, and it's exciting.
00:48You talk about some of the guys that are coming back.
00:50A lot of the guys that have come back and kind of went through that 3-13 season
00:54have all said that they've had conversations with the new guys,
00:57the Javon Hollins, the Paulson, the Debo's, the rookies, the Abdul Carter.
01:02What's those conversations been like to the new guys,
01:06and what's that buy-in been like to you guys, not only already having a culture,
01:11but also establishing a new culture and a new season?
01:14Yeah.
01:14I mean, it's always different when, you know, you add new pieces and bringing guys in from other teams.
01:19You know, they have their own style of play, their own methods of leadership, you know,
01:23whether it's by action, by vocal, you know, it's different from player to player.
01:27But I think we've added some great pieces, you know, as far as the back end, Javon and Paulson
01:31and the other guys we've added.
01:32And, you know, just, you know, their vocal leadership, how they act on the field,
01:36how they communicate, it's definitely been heard, it's been noticed.
01:40It's good to have people like that back there, and I think it spreads, you know,
01:43it culminates throughout the defense.
01:44And then, obviously, with the rookie, Abdul, I mean, he's a great player,
01:48a great asset that we have on our team, and I'm excited to see him progress
01:51and, you know, play these preseason games and see how, you know,
01:55he builds himself up before the season.
01:57A lot of guys have been talking about that new pass rush, the new, I guess, defensive line in general.
02:02How does, I mean, having guys like Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeau, Dexter Lawrence in front of you,
02:06like, how does that make your job, I guess, easier?
02:10And then what, like, what's a realistic expectation when it comes to those guys,
02:15those pass rushers and Dexter in the middle?
02:18Yeah, I mean, expectations are high, you know, when you have those type of players up there.
02:22Obviously, you know, everybody knows the type of money those guys make,
02:25but just the type of players they are and the way they come to practice,
02:28the way they carry themselves, you know, the way they work.
02:31I think that that resounds throughout.
02:33And, you know, they're leaders in their own room, but obviously on the defense as well.
02:37And to have, you know, a guy like Burns who's been in the league for, you know,
02:40six, seven years now and, you know, bringing Abdul on and Kayvon who's, you know,
02:44my year and bringing him on as well.
02:46And then, you know, obviously Dex, just the type of player he is, he's dominant.
02:49But it definitely makes my job a lot easier.
02:51It's, you know, when I can fill a gap and an offensive line doesn't have to worry about me
02:56because he's worrying about, you know, those guys up front, it's a difference for sure.
03:00We got ourselves a nice little classic camp battle for the CB2 position.
03:05Cordell Flott and Taye Banks kind of going after it.
03:08When do you guys know as a defense who that starter is?
03:12You know, it's different every year.
03:14And, you know, I know Flott's working through some things right now, but a lot of times those things don't get settled
03:21until right before the first week.
03:23And there's, you know, sometimes it's earlier, sometimes it's later.
03:25But when it's a close battle and, you know, guys are working and pushing each other to get better,
03:30obviously it raises both their level of play.
03:32But at the end of the day, there can only be one.
03:34And I'm excited to see, you know, just the competition that it brings out of both of them.
03:37And, you know, it'll be interesting to see where that ends up.
03:40Last but not least, where do you plan to take your game this level?
03:43What are the expectations Micah McFadden has put on Micah McFadden?
03:47Yeah, I mean, I think each year it's just try and perfect.
03:50Try and perfect all the things that, okay, you know, I lacked in this part of my game.
03:55I didn't, you know, this was, you know, a leadership role that I didn't step into
03:59or I could have done better at.
04:00I think holistically there's a lot of things that I can work.
04:03But, you know, I'm just trying to be, you know, play to the standard
04:06and play above the standard if I can.
04:08I think, you know, we have a great defense like we've been talking about.
04:10And obviously I'm excited to be a part of it.
04:12But I want to raise everybody's level of play around me and obviously my own.
04:16All right.
04:16Good luck on Saturday, man.
04:17Appreciate it.
