00:00The Giants got their first OTA practice on Thursday, and according to reports, they're signing free agent defensive tackle DJ
00:08Reader, and I told you guys this was going to happen when they signed Shelby Harris.
00:13Maybe I wasn't right when it said it was going to be actually DJ Reader, but I knew they were
00:17going to have to address or still address defensive line room or defensive line unit.
00:22They've got, in terms of that unit, they've got the most approved out of any other unit on this team.
00:28You've got the edge rushers and the Brian Burns and Abdul Carters and Kayvon Thibodeau.
00:33You've got the middle linebackers and Arville Reese and Tremaine Edmonds, but the defensive line still has huge question marks
00:41around it.
00:41I mean, when you lose Dexter Lawrence, three-time pro bowler, it doesn't look as sexy as it did with
00:48Dexy, but at the same time, when they had Dexter Lawrence, they were still one of the worst rush defenses
00:54in the NFL.
00:55I believe they gave up, what, 5.3-something yards per carry.
00:59Denard Wilson is going to have to use a defensive line by committee, and that may not be a bad
01:06thing for him.
01:07But as for DJ Reader, yes, he's 32 years old, but he did start all 17 games for the Detroit
01:14Lions last season.
01:1528 tackles, four quarterback hits.
01:18He's serviceable.
01:19You now have a veteran presence and some more leadership with some young guys who need to prove themselves in
01:25that room, but I feel as though the defensive line, that unit is going to be a work in progress
01:31for the entire year.
01:33And depending on how the season is going for the Giants, I think defensive line, defensive tackle, nose tackle, whatever
01:40you want to call it, that's a position that they're going to address either before or at the trade deadline.
01:46But a guy to keep an eye out on in this unit is Bobby Jamison Travis, the six-round pick,
01:54pure run stopper out of Auburn.
01:57You know, he needs to learn how to be a pro, but they drafted him to come in and help
02:01stop the run.
02:02All in all, again, it's not one of the sexiest D-lines in the NFC or NFC East, but as
02:09for now, it should be serviceable.
