00:00all right let's get you guys Tyree's take on the Giants lost to the Saints Super Bowl champ David
00:05Tyree is back on because I got a lot of questions on this one DT uh how you feeling man coming up
00:11out it's supposed to be victory Monday I wanted my Dunkin Donuts coffee I was gonna be I was ready
00:18for it I was ready to talk trash to everybody in the office now I've been ducking everybody
00:22like bill collectors man yeah man I the only thing I had to do I could give myself a fresh
00:29ball just to just have something fresh in my life because it was a stale performance by a Giants
00:35team that should have been invigorated by an amazing win against the uh Los Angeles Chargers and really
00:40a much better football than a than a peddling defeated New Orleans Saint team that they could
00:46have put down and really pulverized just to get some some verve back in going to next week in
00:51Philadelphia so yeah definitely disappointing with you big bro um I was I I would say you know when
00:57you look at the first half spark I was surprised surprised how quickly the the the that there was
01:04we went flat we went flat not just offensively with the offensive spark from Jackson dark but
01:10there was no pass rush the pass rush that we've seen persistently and they're getting pressure but
01:16we're just not getting home and I think that is a small summation of what this New York Giants football
01:22has been so far in this first quarter of the football season is close but no cigar right and
01:28that's that's never going to be celebratory when you can't get in sync and play complimentary football
01:33we're all over the place so before we get into the details of the loss the penalties the turnovers
01:38uh the lack of pass rush what does it tell you about this team or a team in general when they
01:46knock off or beat a Chargers team and then goes and plays with his food and loses to a I I want to
01:55say a less superior team but losing to a team that hadn't won a game yet you had a chance to be two and
02:02three going into a short week what does it tell you about the Giants most recent collapse this game
02:07yeah it shows you that obviously the obvious is they play down to competition right and I think
02:13when you're when you're trying to establish an identity for a football team which we all say
02:18happens in the first quarter of the football season it it just shows this great instability no
02:23consistency no discipline and this I think most of us were sober enough that this was a Giants football
02:30team that was good enough to be successful this year far more energy far more excitement and a little
02:36bit more talent throughout the roster but the problems are what the problems have been and that is a severe
02:42lack of discipline um you know there's been shifting and approach in light of what the expectations were
02:49and all those shift the shifting moving pieces are happening within each unit um inconsistency in play
02:57from expected playmakers and it's really really disappointing when you when you talk about what that
03:04really means it means that we don't know who the hell we are and the players clearly don't believe
03:08and what the ship has set set forth into the ocean so not good when you talk about a commanding win
03:15when everything's on the line and the opportunity to get another team in play that you can beat for
03:22certain but this is the NFL let's talk about the discipline man because me and you we're we're
03:27we're Coughlin guys we're we're Tom Coughlin guys and it's uh when we're talking about the playbook
03:33know and know you know so it's all about detailing your work and in my eyes what I tell people the
03:40way that coach Coughlin used to have us detail our work at times it used to be like big brother just
03:45hanging over top of our shoulder trying to correct our homework but you realize why you needed to detail
03:52that work to go on that championship run that we went on back in 2007 fast forward to 2025 the Saints
03:59game five consecutive possessions with a turnover defensive penalties that kept drives going that
04:05allowed the Saints to put points on the board and then you saw a mishap or a lapse in coverage uh at
04:11the end of the first half that that kind of gave the Saints the momentum for the rest of the game
04:17talk to the fans now because a lot of people will try and be like oh well that's on the coach they're
04:23not disciplined that's on the coach but at the end of the day it's not Brian Dable out there not
04:28holding the football tiki barber high and tight so kind of take us into that world because you've
04:35been on the personnel side you've been a player you're in this world kind of take the fans into
04:40that world of what that conversation and now is like between Dable and this team yeah these are
04:47kind of like the intuitive elements of football right you know that these guys can play at the highest level
04:51but this is there there are elements like discipline and character elements that carry from individual
04:59to team right and this is where you separate men from boy and the Giants being able to have meltdowns
05:05of boyish behavior right it's kind of like and this is where you start talking about the proper mix
05:11of young talent to veteran leadership and while the Giants do have some strong veteran presence
05:17i.e Brian Burns i.e you know Ella Moore i.e Darius Slayton they're not the playmakers so when you look
05:25at past successful teams especially New York Giant teams yeah we got a Michael Strahan yeah when you
05:31have an Antonio Pierce yeah when you have these guys are commanding respect but also demanding these
05:37young men to come up to their level of performance and I think there's something that is missing in this
05:42gray area of guys who play strong football week and out but there's not a demand coming and I think
05:49there's there's there's a there's bark but there's not enough bite and so this is really where we should
05:55have a little bit of concern is it all over absolutely not there and I think there's enough
06:01within within Brian Dable um and past success and understanding how long he's been around the football
06:07team um because there's positive elements but it's unsustainable when you play losing football
06:12and boyish behavior I think one of the biggest things for the game yesterday that kind of
06:19I don't know grind my gear kind of had me upset was the wide receiver room getting outshined by the
06:25tight ends you know that's like that's just imagine the wide receiver room that we were in
06:30it plaques in tune was getting outshined by 6'7 Kevin Boss and Mike Matthews you know love those guys
06:38but at the end of the day the wide receiver room that's where the tickets are sold that's where we
06:44had the the pizzazz the moxie the shine so I guess when you think about a Darius Slayton and what he's
06:51been through when it comes to this team they paid him the opportunities that he had yesterday on his
06:56targets you talk about Jalen Hyatt and what he's been through and how yesterday could have been a one of
07:02those like Jay-Z moments allow me to reintroduce myself because Jalen Hyatt has had success in the
07:08NFL before were you surprised that they did not take advantage of a prime opportunity for them to
07:18change the narrative about that wide receiver room you know Elon I wish I could say I was surprised but
07:25when I look at the these these receivers when they're getting out opportunity they're just not
07:30they're not capitalizing right and I think the reason why I would shift a little bit more blame
07:36this week on our wide receivers is because that was me that was me meaning I knew that I would have
07:42few opportunities and if I let them go I shouldn't I shouldn't expect or demand it regardless of what
07:48I've shown throughout the week and regardless what I've shown in the past and this was an opportunity
07:53Jalen Hyatt's had a tough ball a challenging ball and we saw it hit hit both of those hands and go
07:59through those hands that's the play Jalen Hyatt needs to make why to re-energize or re-establish
08:05confidence and what his ability is if you only bring one thing just bring it all the time I
08:11guarantee you I will be able to down that punt inside the five that's what they're missing the
08:16reality was I me seeing Daniel Bellinger got me excited because it reminded me of why I wasn't
08:22playing we had Jeremy Shockey as as really who's a third a third of a third wide receiving or um
08:29three wides we didn't so when Shockey goes down that's when David Tyree comes in so I think the
08:34Giants did the right thing and understand they have Theo Johnson and Daniel Bellinger and I think they
08:39quit a little bit too early on Daniel Bellinger in past years nonetheless I agree that we have to
08:45figure out how to re-energize and that starts with Darius Slayton yeah and I was mad at Bo Collins who
08:51was the undrafted free agent that now here goes your opportunity that you could go forget going
08:57Brandon London with the undrafted free agency here's your opportunity to go full Victor Cruz right now
09:03as an undrafted free agent for the New York Giants and he gave up on a route and that's you can't put
09:09that on tape because that means that you didn't know and know you knew or you didn't have confidence
09:15and an opportunity and DT I just remember you know the following year when I went and made
09:20and and and you know they wanted to put me back on the practice squad with the Giants
09:24but the the Dolphins claim me off waivers I show up what a week before the season starts
09:30and slowly but surely I went from just being the special teams guy to all right we're gonna put him
09:37in there on the heavy package he'll be the blocking wide receiver all right now we're gonna throw in the
09:41football a little bit to having four catches in a playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens
09:46because we needed someone to step up and it was just like Chad Pennington was like all right
09:50I'm gonna try to throw the football somewhere else to see if somebody else can spark us
09:53I did not I I I did not see a lick of motivational football played on the perimeter yesterday and I was
10:05so upset because we know those guys in the locker room you know I'm not gonna be one of the fans
10:11that are like oh this guy's a bomb cut Hyatt or or it's you feel you feel a letdown because it's like
10:18oh I went into the locker room last week and I spoke to him and he was talking about how excited
10:23he was for the opportunity hated the fact that the opportunity came because Malik went down but at
10:29the end of the day the football gods are going to give you a chance however they see fit not how
10:34you see fit and although you want that ball to maybe be thrown out there a little bit more and
10:40you got a step or two on a guy if you get the way you got to come down with it is the way you got to
10:45come down with it because everybody those scouts up there with the binoculars that are watching they
10:50don't care how the ball was thrown they're evaluating what you do with your opportunity and it was just
10:57some missed opportunities from those wide receivers but at the end of the day I'm with you
11:02Theo Johnson Daniel Bellinger you both are going to have about five six targets each against the
11:08Eagles because you've shown not only the quarterback you've shown the coordinator and the head coach
11:14that you guys are reliable targets going forward down the um for the rest of the season or however
11:21it be as it may uh you got the Eagles on a short week Thursday night football they're coming off
11:27the loss doesn't mean anything to them it's still the Giants they're still looking at these guys as
11:32little bro I guess what would you say to the team you've you you're your leader what would you say
11:38to the team going into the short week yeah I think this and when I say like this is the dig down into
11:46the soul you hate to say this this this early in the season but this is the gut check this is the soul
11:51check I think everybody needs to put their French poodles and their French bulldogs aside and we start
11:57talking about dogs and animals and what it takes to play the game of football the sport of football
12:02this is the gladiator sport who's coming into the arena and the the players and the coaches have to
12:10challenge every person to the depth of their soul to really rise up and bring their best now what is
12:19their best look like it should be an intense sub I mean an intense turnpike rivalry it should be a
12:25tussle on the turnpike it should be a nasty divisional game and and if the Giants position themselves to
12:32play through four quarters I believe that that that's that gives you some stick-to-itiveness but
12:37what we can't have is playing down to competition or departing because we're fitting the same trope from
12:47the last few years and I think that there's nothing more this is this is the National Football League you
12:52get paid to do a job and even our minimum wage guys are are crouching in well over half a million
12:59bucks you and I would love that opportunity to go down on kickoff and prove that we belong in this
13:04league so this is truly a gut check for that for the players forget stats this is all was going on in
13:10the heart guys you have to long for this opportunity to go down there beat the defending champion and that's
13:17what coach coach Coughlin does for us for the last game going into Super Bowl 42 you know what we made
13:23the playoffs but we want to beat the champ and that's where they got to go for it what's at state this game DT oh my
13:32goodness in my personal opinion I do believe that there's an element of the season at state you know so it could you
13:39salvage and kind of like when I say an element of the season meaning you know statistically we already
13:46know we're off track for playoffs but if you if we want to dig the hole into one and five is the
13:53demoralization so you are playing for the the in that the ounce of hope right you're playing for the ounce of
14:01hope and you know but I think they have to find a reason to become strong um strong professionals like
14:09you know like when you're talking about Dexter Lawrence the anticipation they have to they have
14:15to regenerate I don't care if you get a freaking crank flashlight but you have to regenerate
14:20the spark and the expectation of what it is to be a high-end player in a national football league so
14:27they are playing for pride they are playing for ego they are playing for opportunity to be respected
14:32and if and if there's any one word that is at stake this week it's respect
14:37you know I didn't expect us to be talking stakes unless it's tomahawks or ribeyes uh you know week
14:45five week six into the NFL season with the Giants especially with the hope that Russell Wilson kind of
14:52brought into this franchise going into the year but we are where we are right now DT you've got Thursday
14:59night football game against the Eagles at the end of the day like you say you get paid to do a job
15:04and this is prime time stage show up and do your job as best as you can because it's not just us
15:10watching there's teams around the league and it's and it's the media the national media there's people
15:16that's talking heads there's a lot of people that can speak on your name that can speak on your pride
15:21you know depending on how you play and perform on on Thursday so DT appreciate you hopping on with this
15:28go ahead you got one more go ahead just just to sign off take this is the challenge when you
15:33bring in a Russell Wilson and bait Russell Wilson week three and I and I like I said I'm sending some
15:39some alumni energy to our New York Giant community let's stop cutting bait let's stay the course and
15:45it's not about switching our quarterback but it's let's stick to a plan let's have resolve let's have
15:50enduring New York Giant power and there's still hope for NYG so let's find a way to to get one
15:56against the birds getting great done keep hope alive DT appreciate you hopping on with this salute
