00:00Super Bowl champ wide receiver David Tyree joins me to do a little Monday morning quarterback for
00:04the Giants historic collapse out in Denver and let's get him on the two box now because DT
00:1024 hour rule is still in effect because they played at 4 p.m yesterday and we when we record
00:17these it's like 333 right now so I still got that stank and a little bit of that a little
00:22little up that New York upsetness uh right now so first and foremost hope you had a great weekend
00:28thanks for hopping back on with me now sir your initial reaction to that historic loss yeah like
00:36you know I've heard the word history a lot of times through the years a lot of the helmet catch and it's
00:41not the history you want to be on and you know a lot of Joe Joe Pesci the sticker the sticker bar
00:46didn't do it I'm angry as hell I'm pissed and and it's not because of the loss it's because of the
00:54way of the loss right so when you talk about you don't want to be on the wrong side of history
00:57yeah and the Giants collective incompetence we have found every particular way to lose a football
01:04game kicker Deontay Banks um we can we can highlight Daybo Shane Bowen there's there's every
01:12person to potentially put in front of the freight train but the fact remains why how do we find
01:17ourselves in front of the freight train those are things that carry objects that are outside the
01:22bounds and absolutely kill people like let's get on the passenger train where people actually go
01:26to wear productive and that's what the Giants are doing week in and week out there's a supporting
01:32cast of characters that are supporting the collective incompetence it is really really bad so I think the
01:38Adebo injury Deontay Banks um the the I mean like it's just a lot of bad moments in one quarter I don't I
01:46probably haven't I could say maybe my football football career I haven't seen that many meltdowns
01:53in one quarter and I've seen a lot of football and uh Nacho Nunez Roaches Roaches Nunez had said he was
02:00like guys got a little bit complacent or relaxed he said they're celebrating on the sideline and and for
02:07that to happen when you already had a war awards on Twitter going back and forth guys calling out your
02:13quarterback um and for you to get relaxed like I felt like and I was doing the live stream yesterday
02:21and I'm like all right this game is far from over it's only 19 nothing right now and I even use the
02:27whole Michael Strahan it's time to stomp them out but they couldn't do it so we talked about a little
02:34bit of that freight train we'll we're we have no choice but to go in and talk about the freight train
02:40but let's start with the passenger train somebody who I think is is heading in the right direction
02:45and could be taking this program this franchise to the right direction Jackson Dart let's go with the
02:51good the bad because he is the future QB1 both present and and in well in the future for this
02:58football team what you thought what'd you think about Jackson Dart in his uh fourth NFL start yeah I
03:03mean when you talk about four starts in this has all been positive this has all been actually um
03:08if there's hope if if there's a Reverend Reverend Jesse Jackson speech where you keep hope alive it
03:14looks like Jackson Dart and that's because of his his attitude his toughness that's because of his um
03:20you know up to one particular moment here and there and these entire uh and in these entire four games
03:25one moment of poor decision making where he looks like a rookie other than that he looks like an elite
03:31quarterback in these four and he's four games right small sample size but a lot of hope and a lot of
03:37promise and not just the play it's actually the attitude that is beginning to rub off on the rest
03:44of the team where there are high expectations of winning high expectations of and that's a culture
03:50particular culture setting attitude now at the end of the day sustainability longevity that plays out
03:57over time and that's not just the rest of the season that actually will have to play out over a couple years
04:01but there's a lot to love about Jackson Dart um the the impromptu ability to make plays on his feet
04:08and um and just the the toughness he wants to be the guy he put it all on his back even when he made
04:13poor decision making yeah we've seen him outplay or outshine Justin Herbert Jalen Hurts and Bo Nix for
04:22three quarters like he continues to take steps to where when you walk out of that game yeah it stank
04:30it hurt you're upset with him for not taking the sack but you can't be mad at him for that long it's
04:37like like me with my two-year-old it's like you just poured you just spilled coffee over daddy's brand
04:41new new outdoor shoes you know how much my outdoors cost but you can't be mad at him because you're like
04:47you you cute young boy like yeah you're my baby boy so you can't be mad at him for too long somebody
04:52that the Giants fans are really upset with and I'm gonna get serious on this one defense coordinator
04:57Shane Bowen like if you were I don't I don't know what your Twitter timeline has been like but uh mine
05:02has been on fire talking about Shane Bowen he's in his second year with the team but this is the second
05:08game DT where the defense allowed a team to march down the field with under a minute left in the game
05:15to kick a game-winning field goal after the game something else that was that's been all over
05:21everyone's timelines you saw Brian Burns visibly upset and frustrated walking through the tunnel
05:27back to the locker room and you can even hear him say dropping eight in coverage and then on top of
05:34that Dexter Lawrence who wasn't on the field nor was Abdul Carter for some of the key plays in that last
05:40drive was asked about the defensive calls and he answered with quote I couldn't tell you I don't
05:47know same people same calls now on the call just now uh Brian Brian Dable said that Joe uh said that
05:57Shane Bowen is going to continue the season as the defensive coordinator but for Burns and Dexter
06:05Lawrence to kind of come out and be visibly upset the way they were what does that mean for Shane
06:11Bowen in your eyes yeah I think at the end of it it's not to say that these guys have checked out but
06:17it's just to say that you're seeing the same thing that we're seeing these are high-end competitors and I
06:23think it's it's going to be difficult to persuade fans in the modern day um if you want to call it
06:29anyone has a sensible brain of football why are your playmate playmakers not on the field
06:34when there's a play that needs to be made and we can excuse it in in certain instances but when
06:40you're talking about the game on the line the potential momentum of of a salvaging of a tough
06:46season on the line it's very difficult to justify some of the decisions when you when you're in the
06:51middle of a meltdown so they say then don't break well by the time that you're you're you're dropping
06:58those eight guys we've already broken well you need to sit in the house you need to not allow
07:02a quarterback to have a miraculous decision or put themselves in a position where they have to make
07:07one perfect decision and I that wasn't even a perfect pass it was you know we don't know if it
07:14was it was two two if it was the guy clearing out if it's the dig coming in on on the Broncos yeah but
07:19it cannot happen it cannot happen and dropping eight how is that gap even available yeah it just is
07:27inexcusable and I understand where these players are coming from is because Brian Burns has done
07:33nothing but play MVP caliber defensive MVP caliber football and Dexter Lawrence has been that guy so
07:39the moment that you lose the favor and now they can say hey man you see it I see it I'm just here
07:46I just play it's not a good thing so let me play a little devil's advocate here because I'm a son of a
07:53football coach who used to be a defensive coordinator as well if I'm Shane Bourne I can then look back at
08:00my players and be like I dropped eight why is there a guy wide open and then how come no one pushed
08:08Evan Ingram out of bounds and allowed him to get an extra 10 to 15 yards and then I can be like this
08:16first round corner that you guys got me and Tate Banks how do you allow Cortland Sutton to come down with
08:22that football and you not look back and make a play on the ball so there could be a lot of finger
08:27pointing going back and forth there so how like how do you how does he keep that together like how
08:34as a coordinator do you keep that together and keep your stars happy and keep the fan base from breathing
08:40down your neck well I've always been high accountability I think what you what you're gonna
08:45what you're gonna wrestle with from the optic is the fact that Deontay Banks was brought into play
08:50pressing and he's no longer in position to do a good amount of that and he also he's very low
08:55on confidence and he's been consistently put in positions where he's been exposed and that's just
09:02not going to increase the guy's confidence collectively so that's not all Shane Bowen but
09:06that's partially Shane Bowen how how do I work this because this guy isn't working within my system number
09:11two is at um your the strength of your your defense is in your front seven and then you have tools and
09:19positions so you don't have to go Steve Spagnuolo and NASCAR but you do have to position these players
09:24with packages in a way where you can say I've done all that I that I can do with the pieces that I had
09:30and the pieces didn't make didn't make sense so you got to come off checkers and get off chess when you
09:35look at Shane Bowen's defense it's obviously stable the defense has been holding things together yeah
09:42but when you start to poke holes in it that's when you actually have to become a little bit more of a
09:46strategist it doesn't appear to be that way but yes there's room on both sides of the fence yeah and
09:51I mean I don't want to seem like I'm like advocating for him because I don't want no smoke from the Giants
09:56fans right now but Cordell Flott did have himself a heck of a game showed up back-to-back games and then
10:03if I'm Shane Bowen I can be like well we had we had them on a goose egg for what three quarters we
10:09had we were pitching the shutout so it is again like you said the freight train just it's just one
10:16one thing after another and that's just one thing when it comes to the Giants it's like
10:20when you see something I don't want to necessarily question mental toughness or anything in that in
10:27that in that manner but when it's starting to unravel who's that guy like who's that Avengers
10:34character that's going to step up and get his own movie that's going to step up and make that play
10:39I haven't said outside of Brian Burns like there hasn't really been that guy on the defense this year
10:44well you just you just said it they need a doctor strange they need somebody who's going to freaking
10:49like just put some things together and actually has a competent sound mind and you just saw the guy
10:56lose it this week and that was Brian Burns you're talking he could he could still be you know he was
11:02coming in I think at number three in the NFL and leading the NFL in sacks not a high pressure um not
11:08a high pressure defense but just steady so you know when you start to crack the fragility and now
11:15they're questioning the decision making remember anytime there's a disaster there has to be swift
11:21decision making yeah and whether that's in your country the way that's in your locker room
11:25and it has to be clear concise and the Giants collectively when things are bad and you're down
11:31somebody gotta look up when you're on the ground you gotta look up and that's really what what's
11:35happening with our fan base and even now with our players not the signal you want to see um but
11:40nothing's obviously worked out and I think this is a collective mess that the Giants have to try
11:45to grain grab the reins on good luck Brian Dable because you got another another tough game coming up
11:51here in the division two and five you're about to go down to Philly who is upset with losing to you
11:58at home and then you had you know the back and forth of Kayvon on the show saying to bleep the Eagles
12:04I feel it's like the Eagles are going to come out they're they're going to try and put that they're
12:09going to try and put hands on them they're going to try and be aggressive uh when it comes to that
12:13game on Sunday but before we get into that DT we both were receivers we both were uh you know NFL
12:20three four five receivers on the depth chart sure the Giants outside of Wondell Robinson didn't have
12:29a receiver catch a pass register a stat the tight ends the Kevin bosses and the Michael Matthews
12:37took over the box score that loss does that now mean that there is no need to make an aggressive
12:46trade for wide receiver anymore I'm going to say yes me personally you know at this point when you're
12:54looking at what is and what has been it's very hard to justify forfeiting your future when you're
13:04looking at what what is and I'm just talking about there's a there's a mental component to the
13:09quality who are you going to get that can redirect the energy in the wide receiver room I don't believe
13:17that there's a playmaker out there that that the Giants can play something from a third round down
13:23that's going to say oh now we have a chance no this is going to be a playmaker perhaps that that that
13:30gives Jackson Dart another target and that's not what the Giants need they need to build on a healthy
13:35foundation you saw Andrew Thomas came back he solidified an offensive line that was that was
13:42there's no player in the market at wide receiver that can solidify the wide receiver room and great
13:48create confidence for this New York Giants offense collectively and really turn internalize create a
13:55new psyche for this team they need a whole psyche shift if there's going to be some some good fruit
14:01on the other side of the next half of the season last but not the last but not least DT we got to
14:06talk about this kicking situation um this thing has been going on for the last couple of years now
14:12it seems like the Giants will last three years have lost a game because of the kicking situation
14:19love the NFL uh NFL pathway program um your special teamers your pro bowl special teamer
14:29what's going in the decision making for having Jude McTamey out there over uh young Hulk who who
14:37we know has had some success in the NFL I I don't have I'm gonna be honest with you with
14:46me I choose to experience oh you know over potential right now at the end of the day
14:54you know kickers you've seen them we've seen them rise we've seen the fall we've seen the rise again
15:00so it's not uncommon for a very good professional NFL kicker to have a slump but experience really
15:08really matters and tested and tried and can be successful in his league goes a long way in my
15:14estimation over a guy who could kick it five to eight extra yards because he has a great leg and
15:20great potential and I just you know clear the pathway to take that dude back to the country he
15:27came from I haven't done all the research crew but that's really bad two extra points in one game
15:34and now we're losing by a point it's a bad and I'm just talking about over two years again we have a
15:43disaster at a very important position clean it up and clean it up swift this is not the time to be
15:48in a market to to look at potential or to exercise potential uh dt I wish we could I was I was looking
15:58forward to back-to-back wins we were gonna turn up we were gonna turn up on this one instead I got
16:04the news from the kids bro not good I got I had to take me a Pepto-Bismol and it was one of those
16:10things dt because my son came in to to the studios yesterday we went home I put him straight to
16:16sleep like he did something wrong I'm like you're going you're going to bed right now you're going
16:20taking your home taking the work home with you can't have that we can't have that it affects
16:26everybody uh thanks for hopping on with me man we'll see you next week and uh appreciate you dt
16:31feel big up to big blue man appreciate the love
16:34you
