00:00the Giants lost to the Eagles on Sunday they also lost running back Cam Scadaboo for the season
00:06they dropped to two and six for the third consecutive season and there are all types
00:11of viral videos all over social media from the Giants in-game performance and also Giants legend
00:17Carl Banks so we're going to dive into all of that in today's Blue Rush but first let's bring
00:23in our co-host for today we got Super Bowl champ David Tyree and of course Giants beat writer for
00:28the post Paul Schwartz all right fellas uh things look like they're getting ugly uh fast again on
00:35the field and a lot going on in the social media world uh Paul I'll start with you how's it going
00:41glad you made it safe back from the link you were at the link we watched on tv so I guess kind of give
00:46us your thoughts and we'll go we'll take it from there and we'll add on well I was at the link and
00:52it looked a lot like the previous 12 games I saw at the link right that's 13 straight Giants lose
00:58to Philly in uh you know their least favorite building in the in the league um back to 2013
01:04and this kind of felt a little different didn't it guys it felt more like some other years I mean
01:10the Giants have been a more competitive team especially with Jackson Dart at quarterback he
01:15played fine really but you know this was kind of a men against boys sort of game a lot of ways it
01:20looked like a two and six team playing against a six and two team Giants hung in for a little bit
01:24but not for a lot and um I asked a bunch of players in the locker room and and head coach
01:30um Brian Dable was this a step back you know uh Dable didn't say it was a step back but a bunch of
01:36the players did they said yeah this was a step back so um that's what it was it was a step back and
01:41that's um kind of disheartening you know at this point of the season 17 days before that they handled
01:47the Eagles easily and 17 games 17 days later the Eagles certainly handled the Giants pretty easily
01:54so that's certainly not progress DT I thought the Saints game would be considered a step back
02:00especially coming off that Chargers win coming off of the loss the type of loss to the Broncos
02:06would you classify would you call this a step back as well and let's get your thoughts on the game
02:11it is a step back and primarily because there was there were not able to sustain some of the energy
02:19and I think when you consider of course which I'm sure we'll talk about the the Scadaboo injury
02:23I think this is a organization that does not possess enough emotional resiliency so when injuries hit
02:32it's a devastating blow and it's like a recurring trauma that says here we go again
02:37and sadly from Micah McFadden on Darius Slayton on to Malik Neighbors and now Cam Scadaboo
02:45and mounted on top of defensive meltdown back to back I think they're at their breaking point
02:53doesn't mean that you know there's no more resilience to and nothing that can be you know
02:58kind of like you know we want to call it conjured up but I think that step back was from that we saw
03:03a fight all the way through the collapse and never and we didn't see that kind of resolve down at the
03:10link. DT to kind of piggyback off of what you just said like the team is kind of kind of kind of leaning
03:16toward their breaking point that that Scadaboo injury I felt like broke the entire fan base because
03:23you mentioned Malik Neighbors going out he was exciting everyone was behind him unretiring
03:30uh flattery's number and all the dancing and everything that he brought the Odell-esque type
03:36vibe that he bought he brought he went down that hurt guy that hurt the fan base because it's like
03:41all right where's that gonna come from then all of a sudden here's this spark of hope in this little
03:47pit bull that's running through people going whoa in the middle of press conferences and media
03:53availabilities Paul when he went down at the watch party it was like the entire Giants fan base at
04:02Tommy's Tavern in TAP had just absolutely checked out and whatever happened from in the game from
04:09there on out is just like all right whatever happens happens we're gonna have to punt to next year but
04:15Paul what are your biggest watching that game and and you're right you're you're you're thinking all
04:21right what am I gonna write what am I gonna put this what am I gonna write about this what am I
04:25gonna write about that biggest storylines for you coming out of this game like is it the same old Giants
04:32or is it just like you said little brother got beat by little brother big brother again well you know
04:38I don't want to sound too cold-hearted I mean it affects us up in the press box when you see that
04:43you know what I mean I mean it's I'm not you know look you guys are both I remember being on practice
04:49fields in Albany watching practice and some poor bastard goes down right you know and and the coach
04:55kind of looks over trainers around them and he goes all right everyone feel to feel to right and the
05:01whole practice just moves to the next field and it's like you know it's like you're leaving the scene of
05:06the crime and that's what you guys are trained to do I get it you know you're not going to stop
05:10practice you know it's a sick feeling when you see players kind of look and then they move to the
05:14side they take a knee I mean it's so I it you know that that you know the scatterboot thing is
05:19tough that's a tough one and and um you know robs a team of of a terrific young player and a terrific
05:25presence Brian Dable said you know the day after the game on Monday he said today that he got a text
05:31from scatterboot like 4 0 8 a.m this morning um who knows what kind of painkillers were going through
05:37his system at that point and he wasn't sleeping because he did have surgery in a hospital in
05:42Philadelphia Sunday night um that's the kind of he was texting his his head coach and um we asked
05:48Dable you know what was it about and he goes oh he was scat being scat which means I'm sure it was
05:52irreverent and upbeat and trying to be you know funny and inspiring because that's what he is so
05:58that that's a tough and you know I know there's resiliency and things like that you know I would
06:02ask you guys I mean you guys have been on the field when this happens it can't be easy right it
06:07can't be easy to just move on when one of your one of your brothers down there is down and his
06:12ankles pointed the wrong way or his leg is pointed the wrong way or in Richie Soibert's case his leg
06:18is shattered and um you know I mean I mean let me ask you guys you guys are on the field how do you do
06:24that okay look you got to be resilient but you're human beings also it's kind of hard DT yeah I certainly
06:31agree a thousand percent there's there's there's the immediate reality of injury it's kind of like
06:38a quickening it's like a flash like man this is real this is real marbles and I and I think there's
06:43two elements to it is there's a friend you know maybe a few more elements than two there's a teammate
06:48and then it's also who got injured right and what do they mean to your team um in practice you know you
06:54know you always have this air of hope you know I think athletes are trained to think positively
07:00believe positively expect the greater results get back as soon as you can but I think when you're
07:05talking about this this particular injury and of itself and you actually know the state of your team
07:09you know that you need playmakers to give yourself a chance you know that the state of your social
07:16emotional well-being is based on a strong performance and because of the six days that you put to put the
07:24six days of work that you put in to get to this one moment and so I think we're the giants when we talk
07:30about the collapses it was the central uh playmaker to this New York Giants defense along with Jackson
07:37Dart excuse me New York Giants offense and that's what makes it so overwhelming where you see Darius
07:42Slayton come to the sideline slamming the helmet when you see Jackson Dart like man what else can go
07:47wrong um so all injuries are certainly devastating but yeah when you lose your neighbors and you lose
07:52the scatterboot it just makes you feel like the world is against this but again there's hope you you
07:58you go back to work next on Monday morning and you cheer you guys on and the Giants have to figure
08:03out a way to be not just resilient but to prove that they're professionals and I think that's the
08:08that's the centerpiece and it was great to see some call outs and some checks and get sober about hey
08:13man this ain't this is not good at all who are we cup check again oh we definitely going to go to
08:18them cup checks we're definitely going to talk about those in a little bit but you know Paul when you when
08:22you when you ask us from a player standpoint from a coach's son and player standpoint I've I kind of
08:28got numb to those type of things like I've seen it since I was a kid and my dad taught me how to handle
08:34that emotionally because I remember like the Chris Hovans and the Chris Canty uh for my dad coach Chris
08:40Canty at UVA probably one of my top five players that he's ever coached my dad talked him into the kind
08:47of staying his senior year and he blew his leg blew that knee out I guess it was a game against Georgia
08:53Tech I believe and he went from being a first round pretty much short thing first round draft pick to third
08:59round draft pick and I remember watching him lay there and I'm in high school at the time and I'm like I'm
09:05like a ball boy and I'm almost ready to cry almost and I'm talking to my dad after and my dad's just calmly
09:12talking about it like he's going to be all right and all and I'm like why is this dude not hysterical
09:17because he'd always taught me and my older brother you got to push through in those certain type of
09:22situations because your teammates need you they may need you you mean you could be the next guy up we
09:27always say next guy up well if it's you that's that next guy up you got to try like heck fight like
09:33heck to try and mirror as much as and duplicate that player's production as much as possible but I
09:40think in the Giants case with already leaving I mean losing Malik neighbors and then now you lose a
09:46Cam Scadaboo in that situation you saw the Jackson darts in the Darius Slayton as you alluded to
09:51DT it goes back to that movie the water boy when they realized they weren't going to have Bobby
09:57Boucher anymore and the dude goes oh no we suck again and I believe that's that's how deflating it
10:05was for the team at that time because you like all right no disrespect to Motor Singletary and Tyrone
10:10Tracy Jr but this kid had the it factor right now he was the hot he was he was the the hot one at the
10:17time and that was the guy even though being a rookie he was the guy that we were going to lean on for
10:22some uh elite level production and it just was like all right I know we got to move on but at the same
10:27time it's like why is this happening to us again um defensively cup check we're going to talk we
10:34definitely need to talk about this now because there's all type of viral videos about this team that's
10:39circling around the web people talking about the defense Paul you you got the first you you take
10:46the first one Paul I'll take the second one we'll set this thing up and talk because the content right
10:51now surrounding this team I believe is at rock bottom well you know it's amazing isn't it because
11:00you know 17 days ago it was at rock top or you know you know it was you know this doesn't even make
11:05sense rock top but it was at like sky top right I mean it was they just beaten it the Super Bowl
11:10champion Eagles and Jackson Dart was great and scatter boost ran for three touchdowns and everything
11:15was great and you know what it really went beyond that in the third quarter in Denver they're up 26 to
11:22eight and I know people who said you know people with the Giants who said you know what we're a darn
11:27good football team we're a good team then it collapsed in Denver and they didn't play well you know
11:32on either side of the ball in Philly look you guys I'm sure both thought in your own way you were very
11:39physical players is there anything less gratifying or more you know galling going into a game is when
11:48you give up 276 rushing yards you know that on a defense that you just get gashed and gashed and gashed
11:55you know it's one thing for Saquon Barkley to do it it's another thing for Tank Bigsby to do it right
12:00over 100 yards 65 yards on the first play which was you know even Saquon said as he was running he
12:07said finally Saquon's longest run this season was not longer than 20 yards this year he had not been
12:13doing this on a regular basis and he runs for 65 and a touchdown on the first play so that was really
12:19really disturbing to me that this team got physically pounded into the ground on defense
12:24renowned supposedly great pass rushing defensive line has not stopped the run they were a little
12:30better for a couple of weeks it's a big problem we got this route here um uh Devontae Smith running
12:39on Taye Banks and uh Paul you said you wanted us to break it down you wanted us to break it down so
12:43DT we're going to show it and then let's let's get your thoughts on it first oh man I got a few of
12:49them there we talked about this you know obviously one of smaller receivers but nothing short of
12:54lightness speed and quickness at the top of this route the bottom the sad part is it's a teach tape
12:59for Deontae Bakes because everything is built off getting vertical right so I can talk about the
13:02receiver what you're looking to do is get this guy believing that you're running to go and I mean I
13:08I have a difficulty looking at as I watch this this play why look now like you know so I you know and
13:18obviously we we probably see some some some technique at the top of the route where it could
13:23be a subtle hit push um to gain a little extra separation but obviously this is this is this is
13:29really difficult for Deontae Banks difficult for his journey and this is where he's supposed to make
13:34his bread and butter and press coverage but you see you know what I'm getting out of dodge because
13:40this guy I can't have him beat me deep but man um that looks clueless at the top of the route
13:46and you know I mean when when Deontae Bakes not not what you're looking for from your from a guy
13:53that you you know drafted to be aggressive press physical uh corner and a guy who's 165 170 pounds
14:01in national football league yeah I thought it was like you said it was teach tape by Devonta Smith there's
14:05a reason why he was a wide receiver and won the Heisman in college he's a first round pick but that's
14:11what we call good on good right there first round pick versus first round pick my rookie year that
14:16would be uh like Steve Smith even though he was a second round pick versus Aaron Ross when we were in
14:22rookie camp that's that matchup right there Devonta Smith does a great job he could be a used car salesman
14:27the way he sells his eyes sells that go route down the field but that's it's opportunity right there
14:34DT you know what the fan base thinks of you you know what your coaching staff kind of thinks of you
14:39you were benched last year Paulson Adebo is down Cordell Flott has absolutely taken that competition
14:46away from you now you get your opportunity because uh Adebo is down and you got to win on that you got
14:53to win there if you're if you're tape bank so that's unfortunate just watching that but that is one of
14:59the many videos that are circling around the the internet right now social media go ahead one other
15:05thing Brady situational awareness right it's third and four it's third and four Deontay um Devonta
15:12Smith literally runs right by the the the flare you know the the stick right so I mean you tell me
15:18David you're running it's third and four okay now he can run he can break it deep I know you're allowed
15:24to throw the ball deep on third and four but it is third and four and sure Deontay Banks looks like he
15:30has no it's like literally saying if you want the first down take it I mean I mean how many how many
15:37you know how how many accolades would you have got if you're lining up wide left and that is the
15:42coverage you're getting on third and four uh this this shows a lack of trust a lack of confidence on
15:48behalf of Deontay Banks and that's really everything it takes to play the position at corner right and he
15:54he's he's a talented extremely overwhelmingly talented corner great speed um great physical
16:00traits but he doesn't trust what he actually sees and at the end of the day he's on top he's in great
16:06position all you actually have to do is now run and respond you're in the hip of the receiver he was
16:12never in a position where he had to panic trust your technique trust your skills your ability and trust
16:19that you were drafted in the same same position same round as this talented receiver that you're
16:24up against and he lost the battle and and and I think that mean what I'm afraid that this guy's
16:31gonna beat me deep and that's what we're depending on that's just not what you want to see from a guy
16:36who's getting every redemptive opportunity to to demonstrate that he could play at against top
16:41type top tier talent national football league yeah I wanted to see him squeeze him a little bit more
16:45you had to sideline sidelines your friend Jalen Hurts was gonna have to drop it in a bucket right
16:50there if he was gonna throw that goal route so you're in good position to actually play the goal
16:56route now squeeze it because of what you said Paul situational awareness there and they were that was
17:02the route of choice that game they kept running those stop routes over and over and over again now let's
17:09go to one of the videos from the fallout of that game because it wasn't just the passing Jalen Hurts
17:14obviously 15 of 24 touchdowns there but you mentioned it Paul it's one thing to run for 100 total yards
17:22in one football game but have two running backs to rush for over 100 yards is what the kids call
17:28diabolical Carl Banks Giants legend had some words for Dexter Lawrence in his podcast we'll check that out
17:38and then DT you you come out and respond to it Dexter Lawrence nobody respects you anymore nobody your
17:48opponents do not the pre-injury Dexter is not there in their heads they don't respect you and
17:57there's a difference you're on you're on the field they're blocking you with a nine-year backup center
18:08you're not making a difference the old Dexter would okay there are a lot of things that go into
18:18your performance only you know what that is whether you're still recovering or not I'm just telling you
18:24now I'm looking at enough tape to know that your opponents don't respect you not like they used
18:30to and here's the thing when Darius Alexander gets in the game uh when Roy Robinson gets in the game and
18:42they substitute for you those guys DJ Davidson DJ Davidson those guys are making plays against the
18:49same guys that are blocking you I'm gonna just say this again I don't know the circumstances
18:55it's time for you to start expecting more of yourself I don't know if you're injured I don't
19:04know if you've fully recovered but it's time to start asking more of yourself because they don't respect
19:10you DT oh golly he went to respect shot goodness shots fired from the most one of the most classiest
19:20alumni I would actually have to agree I think more than anything there has to be a call to attention
19:25to someone who has had the resume um skills ability of in the caliber of human and quality talent
19:34as Dexter Lawrence um I I couldn't agree more and I don't think it was I think it was most tastefully
19:40said the bottom line is we don't know exactly what all the factors are but you should never be in a
19:47position where your backups are playing more productive when you just went to being the most
19:52destructive force in the National Football League at your position prior to your injury to we're now in
19:59the meat of this football season and you are four weeks into health and you should at least be able
20:07to see production we need to be able to see production from our leader and I think that's
20:14what our cap that's that's that's what Carl is saying there and that is where where we can say we
20:20respect you a backup from a backup center should not be able to to to completely make you null and void
20:27in a division game so yeah I I would have to agree with Carl there I really don't have much to add to
20:33it it but that's a siren from Carl Banks Paul well it's a siren from Carl Banks and it's also
20:41you know Carl talks to a lot of people in the building right you know so um is that a siren as
20:47a message from somebody who Carl talked to who said you know Dexter's got to pick it up I mean the
20:52Carl Banks is a he's up for the Hall of Fame this year again and um you know the only reason he's
20:58probably not in the Hall of Fame already is because I know a lot of the voters and they say
21:01well Lawrence Taylor is in and Harry Carson's in you want us to put all three Giants linebackers in
21:07from that era and the answer might be well yeah they won two Super Bowls maybe put them all in
21:12you know so but that's the kind of player Carl is um now respect I mean I think what he's saying is
21:18respect is double teams and triple teams that they're not saying players opposition don't
21:24respect you as a player they're saying they're not giving you Carl saying they're not giving you that
21:28respect by constantly double teaming you and um like Rakim Nunez-Roches we asked him today about
21:34this and he said don't look at the numbers don't look at the stats he's getting doubled they all have
21:40a you know he said he doesn't get blocked the way I get blocked you get blocked differently so
21:44this is the eye of the beholder thing I don't think anyone in the locker room is going to come on
21:48you know come down and say that Dexter is not playing well but um he he got half a sack in
21:54the Eagles game that was his first half sack of the season I know sacks aren't everything for an
22:00interior you know defensive player but they ran at will and um Dexter is just not getting that push
22:06in the pocket that he used to so um you know with great power comes great responsibility right that's
22:13the Peter Parker Spider-Man way he's got great power he's a team captain he makes a lot of money
22:18and um let's see how he responds to it you get paid differently when you get blocked differently
22:23but your production still got to be there uh Carl Banks wasn't this is the only video Carl had time
22:29today because uh Carl Banks went in on and took a shot at the coaching staff people believe as well
22:36let's check this out I am just at a point now and it's it's like I said I don't know why I took this
22:44one as personal as I did but it's just it was just so raggedy it was so messy because teams ran it on
22:51the Giants and you'll uh until I've seen them run it on the Giants before but this was this was raggedy
22:58this is if there is one thing where you can look up and say
23:03who who y'all play for right and it just looks like and you know Kayvon talked about out the game
23:12he said some some copycat some you know they copycatted some plays that Denver hit on them
23:18well you come to the sidelines somebody got to pull you over coaches and say hey look this is what
23:23we're doing this is how we have to correct this I would have thought it was corrected after the
23:27Denver game because we know we're exist in the copycat league so coaches put this up correct it
23:35remind them that if you see this this is probably what's coming Paul Bob Papa Carl Banks those are
23:43the Giants insiders in-house so for him to be kind of grieving out just just just airing out his
23:51frustrations I mean what do you take from that who was Carl Banks's defensive coordinator
23:58Bill Belichick okay that might be all I have to say about that do you think Bill Belichick is roaming
24:06the Giants sidelines nowadays you know not a shot at Shane Bowen I don't know but he's not Bill Belichick
24:12and so you know Carl worked with the best right he worked with the best teammates and best coaches
24:18do I think the Giants are being coached the absolute best that they can be on defense I do
24:25not some of this has to fall on the players it's very easy to say Shane Bowen didn't do this he didn't
24:30do that I do think players were in position to make plays and they did not can Tyler Newben take a
24:37better angle and show more speed going after Saquon Barkley on the first you know snap of the game when
24:44um what say second snap first touch for Saquon sure he can't I mean that's not all on Shane Bowen
24:51that's on Tyler Newben get going and put the guy down so I think there are issues there we've talked
24:56about Deontay Banks I mean he's taught better than that and he's just not doing it there's a lot of
25:01things going into it but um um there ain't no Bill Belichick's on the Giants sidelines I'll tell you that much
25:06TT yeah I think this is this is sadly there's a there's a rip in the fabric right there's a belief
25:14problem and I think once we see the Brian Burns meltdown this all trickles over because that's
25:19how dissension actually works within the locker room when you when you no longer cease to believe
25:24that the people who are you putting you in position to make plays you know whether he's I don't believe
25:29in the system I don't believe you got nobody talking about um and I think that is the breakdown
25:34eventually happened right when we start to see this and people begin to express their distrust
25:41and it and do does everybody kind of like clean the slate and go back to work yeah but it actually
25:45bleeds through in in your in your ability there's there's always going to be an element in sports where
25:52I'm going to do this because I really believe this guy I believe he has my best interest and these are
25:57the internal mechanisms of culture of championship football and there's been a rift and a
26:04vibe whether it's Dable whether Shane Bowen and then it bleeds into the also the the the players
26:11um playmaking ability and obviously there you know when you look at the depth of the roster
26:17yeah first team looks good but once that it's just a meltdown I think we're at that stage and and again
26:24can can is is there room for some recovery of course it is these are men who have skills and abilities
26:29and they have to repatch this thing to the extent where hopefully it doesn't fall through the roof
26:35and we start to become a week after week shame test the translation I got from what what he said
26:42he and uh papa Paul you were there on January the 6th 2025 when John Mara said I'm tired of watching
26:49teams run up and down the field on us that's what I heard right there and it's something that not only
26:55Mr. Mara but a car banks and the franchise and the fan base I was tired of seeing that and some of
27:01these losses uh as well final thought y'all we got one more one more thing I got a stat for you guys
27:06um that I saw on the internet today and then I'll get both of your thoughts on it so we can wrap up
27:12the Giants first in their records first eight games I'm gonna go with I'm gonna go year by year
27:18and uh from 2025 to 2017 because it's in the prompter that way uh 2025 2 and 6 24 2 and 6 23 2 and 6
27:2922 6 and 2 21 2 and 6 20 1 and 7 2019 2 and 6 2018 1 and 7 2017 1 and 7 Paul I see you shaking
27:42your head there it's the first thing that popped up into your mind I covered every one of those games
27:48okay yes that's why I'm shaking my head I covered every one of those games all those years and it's
27:53the same thing the Leafs change it gets cooler Halloween is around the corner and the Giants
27:58are at a playoff contention every year you mentioned except 2022 um it's a sad old story it's rough on the
28:06players you know now it it goes in cycles right if you're two and six or one and seven and you've got
28:13a coach in his first year you say okay it's growing pains in his second year you say not good in his
28:18third year you say okay is it the coach you know so this is a coach you know this is a staff sent here
28:24since 2022 the year that they were in contention so it's um it's bad you know different quarterbacks
28:29different coordinators different everything um different head coaches different players but the
28:34same old results so um look ownership everybody has taken a long hard look at this they're they're
28:40at their wits end to figure out why it's one and seven and two and six almost every year um
28:46should they be two and six this year this season well they should have beaten the Broncos
28:50they certainly could have beaten the Cowboys but you know what you guys played a long time
28:55nobody cares nobody cares you know you guys made plays and then you didn't make a play I should
29:01have had to catch David you're on special teams I should have made if I made that block
29:06it's a touchdown punt return you didn't make it right and I know you know you look at it and you
29:11try to correct it but either you make it or you don't and they're not making enough things happen
29:15so um we've been here before DT yeah we're seeing we're seeing we're getting prepared for a lot of
29:22goose and goals this week um because you know obviously 49ers coming in when I when I really look at it I
29:29think we've gotten to that point already two and six and it gets down to what is the the the identity
29:37shows that we no longer have motivation in relation to the possibility of attaining success and this has
29:45not been a disciplined football team so we talked about the lack of continuity and I think the one we
29:51have one game where all three phases of of this football team actually came together and since then
29:57we've actually you know it since Philadelphia has been a colossal collapse so you know um happy
30:03Halloween to all the listeners but you know get ready get your mask on get your bags I hate I hate
30:09to be you know negative Nancy um or whatever you want to call it but it hasn't been a positive disposition
30:16because this team is not a disciplined team they say discipline trumps motivation well damn we lost
30:20motivation we haven't been disciplined what is what is going to bring this outfit together for the New
30:27York football giants for them to have a sense of dignity and self-worth there's no more trick
30:31tricks to pull out of this Halloween bag and it ain't looking sweet so let's figure out how we're going
30:36to sustain something to actually have a reputation that is worthy and honorable of the city
30:41just go ahead and on that one man I appreciate you guys giving your raw unfiltered thoughts
30:47we'll see you guys Thursday for the Blue Rush preview show for David Tyree Paul Schwartz
