00:01Illusion, the art of tricking the brain,
00:05distorting the senses, challenging perception.
00:08You can't trust what you see even with your own eyes.
00:12Meet the Masters of Illusion.
00:30Prepare to be amazed, astonished, and completely bewildered.
00:56I'm Dean Cain, and this is Masters of Illusion.
01:01Now, magic has a way of taking the impossible
01:04and making it a reality right before our eyes.
01:08It leaves us questioning everything we know and wanting more.
01:12That's why I'm here to guide you through a night
01:15of the most incredible illusions that you'll ever see.
01:19Hello.
01:21Hello, Ed Alonzo, ladies and gentlemen.
01:25I was just doing a show open.
01:26Oh, well, I'm just here to brighten up the show a little.
01:29Yeah.
01:30Let me do a quick one for you.
01:31Okay.
01:32This I call the amazing vanishing candle.
01:37Ha!
01:39Ha ha ha!
01:41That's pretty good.
01:42You like that?
01:43Yeah.
01:44Amazing, right?
01:45Yeah, it was very good.
01:46You're on fire, Ed.
01:48Oh.
01:49Hey, thanks for the compliment.
01:50No, no, you're actually on fire, Ed.
01:55Ed Alonzo, on fire, ladies and gentlemen.
01:58So let's dive into the world where the ordinary becomes extraordinary.
02:03Okay, get ready to be amazed by a pair of magicians who bring a unique combination of speed,
02:15elegance, and magic to the stage.
02:17Let's give a warm welcome to the amazing Jackie Yu and Ellie.
02:21heat music by the end of the theater at the 31st of 2021.
02:40is a great theater in a moment?
06:43Now, this performer is a master of combining quick wit with mind-blowing magic.
06:57He has entertained audiences across the country with his very unique blend of humor and illusion.
07:03Please welcome the hilarious and talented Eric Eaton.
07:06What's your name, Barbara?
07:11What's your name, dear?
07:13Barbara.
07:13Barbara.
07:14Barbara, nice to meet you.
07:15Barbara, let's do a card trick.
07:16Barbara, I have a deck of cards here.
07:18What I want you to do, rather than me going, hey, pick a card, I want it to be completely
07:22organic.
07:22Take the deck, grab your favorite card.
07:24Go through that deck, grab any card you like.
07:26I'll look this way, I'll look this way, I'll look this way, pull it out, don't let me see it, I'm going to turn back your way and grab the deck and I'll trade you.
07:39But if I can get you to take the marker here, I'll take this.
07:43You're going to sign your card, Barbara.
07:45You can put your name, you can put your phone number, you can put a day you're free.
07:48Any of that works.
07:50Just put something so I don't know it and I'll give you a second to do that.
07:53Let me know once you've done that, Barbara.
08:00And once you've done that too, Barbara, go ahead and show everyone, you can show everyone as well.
08:07Am I good to turn around?
08:09No.
08:09No?
08:10Okay.
08:11We'll go on your time.
08:15You think you got it awesome?
08:16Recap that marker, I'm going to turn back.
08:19All right, perfect, I'll take the marker, we'll take the card.
08:21Barbara, we're going to take your card.
08:23We're just going to place it somewhere here in the middle of the deck.
08:26And I can get you to finish pushing that in.
08:30Ta-da.
08:31Now, Barbara, I was vacationing in Hawaii.
08:34It's a very beautiful place.
08:35If you've never been, the water there is beautiful.
08:37Matter of fact, I thought it was so cool.
08:38I bought an aquarium while I was out there.
08:41Watch as all these cards slowly vanish from the face to the back inside the aquarium.
08:51Here's where it gets better.
08:53If I take the deck and actually spring it hard, watch.
08:56One, two, three.
09:00But only did all the cards vanish except that top.
09:03Your card actually went right through the aquarium.
09:08Tell everyone for me, did you write boom with a heart?
09:30Yeah.
09:30Everyone give Barbara a round of applause.
09:37Suveni.
09:43Next, hold on to your cell phones.
09:46This act is getting personal.
09:47It is very rude to ask a woman how old she is.
09:51But if you don't mind, type in how much you weigh.
09:53We're going to create a special image in your mind and get it to go into the phone.
10:06Trig Watson is coming up.
10:09Can Joshua Jay beat his own world record card trick?
10:12This is 32 years in magic condensed into 60 seconds.
10:18Alexandra with a classic illusion that will make your head spin.
10:23Tonight's performer is renowned for his ability to transform everyday objects into moments of pure magic.
10:47With a focus on close-up illusions, he is a true artist in the world of magic.
10:52Please welcome the brilliant Eric Jones.
10:59Guys, welcome.
11:00I need to ask a question.
11:01I want you guys to be honest with me.
11:03Is there anyone in the room who, like myself, might be suffering from an addiction to their cell phone?
11:10A few of us.
11:10A few of us.
11:11I saw your head nodding vigorously.
11:14What's your name?
11:14Simone Harris.
11:15Simone Harris.
11:16The whole government.
11:17That's good.
11:17I like that.
11:17Let me ask you, what application do you use on your phone the most often?
11:21My bank account.
11:22Now we know where the money's coming from.
11:24I like that.
11:24That's good.
11:25Do you happen to have your phone on you?
11:26Yes.
11:27Oh, it's just like the IV.
11:29Let me ask you this.
11:30Do you know the passcode to get into your phone?
11:31Yes.
11:32You do.
11:32Let me ask you this.
11:33Is it four or six digits?
11:34Six digits.
11:35Six digits.
11:36Good memory.
11:36The first number is not a zero, though, is it?
11:38No.
11:39Excellent.
11:39We're going to try and experiment together, just you and I.
11:41What I'd love you to do is take your phone and place your thumb on that front-facing camera.
11:45That way Face ID can't recognize you.
11:47And what I want you to do is I want you to type in your sixes, your passcode.
11:50That way I know you can get into your phone.
11:52Because sometimes, folks, people only know how to use Face ID.
11:55Other times, they only know the pattern.
11:56I want to make sure she knows the numbers.
11:59We might need those later.
12:00So you're in?
12:01You can go ahead and take your thumb off the front-facing camera.
12:03And I want you to go to your calculator.
12:04And when you're in the calculator, in the upper left-hand corner, there's either a C or an AC.
12:10If you hit that once, that clears out all the history in your phone.
12:13Go ahead and do that.
12:14So I'm going to ask you a question.
12:16It's going to be important.
12:18I'm originally from Virginia.
12:20Originally.
12:21And growing up in Virginia, my parents raised me the right way.
12:23And one of the things my parents always used to say is,
12:26Eric, it is very rude to ask a woman how old she is.
12:30I promise you I'm not going to do that.
12:32But, Simone, if you don't mind, type in how much you weigh.
12:39And no one else needs to see you.
12:40You can hold it close to your chest if you're feeling self-conscious.
12:43Simone, now hold up one finger.
12:45Use that finger to hit the plus key.
12:48Now, Simone, I'm going to turn my head.
12:49And I want you to type in your six-digit passcode.
12:52All right.
12:53Let me know when you're done.
12:58All good?
12:58All good?
13:02Yes, we are.
13:04That scares me.
13:06It took you a while.
13:08So, folks, I can tell you now this is either going to be really good or really bad.
13:13But I need you to know that I'm like Evel Knievel.
13:15I get paid for the attempt.
13:17That's important.
13:18So, now, you've put in your six-digit passcode.
13:20Correct.
13:21Hit the equal key.
13:22That's going to generate a slightly larger number.
13:24And hold it up just a little bit above your head so the people behind you can see what
13:27that number is in case we need to recall it again.
13:30You can bring the phone back down.
13:32Hold up that finger one last time.
13:33Hit the clear key one time.
13:36And then lock your phone.
13:38That's excellent.
13:39Give me the phone.
13:40That's good.
13:42What is...
13:43What is...
13:43So, what is going on here?
13:46Usually people have pictures of their friends and family.
13:49You've got nothing.
13:50Phones on Do Not Disturb.
13:52Oh, so...
13:53I see what you did there.
13:55Let me lock this bad boy.
13:57Let's see this.
13:59Now, I'm not going to use Face ID.
14:01And we've never met before, have we?
14:03No, never.
14:04You seem really happy about that, Tanya.
14:07We're going to try this.
14:08We're going to try this.
14:09Phone is still locked.
14:10Do me a favor.
14:11We'll make really uncomfortable eye contact with me.
14:14That's perfect.
14:15That's good.
14:17Are you hitting the size of me?
14:19Okay, well, you know.
14:22We're going to try this.
14:23We're going to try it.
14:34I don't know.
14:35It's a...
14:37Maybe?
14:41You guys just talk amongst yourselves for a second.
14:58You're going to my bank account.
15:05Let's do it up for Simone, guys.
15:06Up next, Artem Shukin battles with...
15:18Toilet paper?
15:20Pick a country.
15:21Any country.
15:22We're going to create a special image in your mind
15:25and get it to go into the phone.
15:26Trig Watson is coming up.
15:28Can Joshua J beat his own world record card?
15:32Thirty-two years in magic condensed into 60 seconds.
15:37Alexandra with a classic illusion that will make your head spin.
15:41It's time for the incredible Alexandra.
16:03Oh, my God.
16:12Oh, my God.
16:25Oh, my God.
16:26Oh, my God.
16:28Oh, my God.
22:30Nice.
22:31Nice.
22:32It's all right.
22:33We have H and then AR.
22:34All right.
22:36Nice.
22:37I want you to, you can recap the marker for me.
22:38Perfect.
22:39And I want you to hold on to the Polaroid.
22:41And I want you to hold on to the Polaroid for me like this.
22:42And I want you to hold on to the Polaroid for me like this.
22:43That's perfect.
22:44I'm going to take a picture of you holding on to the picture.
22:45It's very muddy.
22:46Here we go.
22:47One, two, three.
22:48Oh, hold on.
22:49Let me get the, let me get the lighting right.
22:51We got to do this right or not at all.
22:53Perfect.
22:55Perfect.
22:56Oh, that'll work great.
22:58All right.
22:59So let's take a look at the picture that we just got.
23:02We zoom in.
23:04You can see your H, A, R, and then the Polaroid, which of course is, you know, hasn't developed
23:10yet.
23:11Nothing on it.
23:12I'm going to zoom out a little bit on this picture, but I don't want you to see what
23:15I'm zooming out on for reasons you'll see shortly.
23:16I want you to hold out your hand like this for me flat.
23:18Yeah.
23:19And I'm going to rest this on your palm.
23:20Okay.
23:21The idea here is we're going to try and create a special image in your mind and get it to
23:25go into the phone.
23:26Okay.
23:27Are you familiar with the, the AI, you know, um, artificial intelligence where you can like
23:32generate a picture just from a few words?
23:34Yes.
23:35We're going to do that, but with a mental prompt.
23:37It's a mental chat GPT.
23:38All right.
23:39I'm going to give you a mental prompt and you're going to think about it in your mind.
23:42We're going to rest your initial Polaroid picture on top of your hand.
23:45Go ahead and rest your other hand on top.
23:47Perfect.
23:48All right.
23:49Now I'm going to give you that mental prompt on my phone.
23:51I have a world Atlas.
23:52I just pulled this up from Google.
23:54It's literally just all the countries in the world.
23:57You can see all in alphabetical order.
23:59We have Canada, Chile, all the way down to Malta, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, all the way down
24:08all the different options here.
24:10Okay.
24:11All right.
24:12So I'm going to go all the way to the top.
24:15Let's, uh, let's go a little further.
24:18All right.
24:19Are you familiar with the price is right?
24:21You know where they spin that giant wheel?
24:22Oh, absolutely.
24:23All right.
24:24That's exactly what we're going to do here, but onto a country.
24:25So go ahead, lift up your left hand and just do a giant swipe for me with your index finger.
24:28Whichever one lands at the top is what we will use.
24:31Let's take a look.
24:33Looks like, okay.
24:34What is the country at the very top there?
24:35That's Egypt.
24:36Egypt.
24:37Egypt.
24:38Interesting.
24:39All right.
24:40Hazel, I want you to rest your other hand on top.
24:41Perfect.
24:42I want you to imagine you're going to take a trip to Egypt, whatever that means for you.
24:45And then you're going to take a picture while you're there.
24:47All right.
24:48Here we go.
24:49One, two, three.
24:50Imagine that in your mind.
24:52Imagine that image, whatever it may be, traveling from your mind through your arms into
24:56the Polaroid.
24:57Okay.
24:58I want you to lift off your left hand.
25:00Uh-huh.
25:01Oh, don't be scared.
25:02You can open up your eyes now and turn over the Polaroid.
25:06Oh, sorry.
25:07Not this Polaroid.
25:08The Polaroid in the picture.
25:10Go ahead.
25:11I want you to open up.
25:12Go to the most recent photo that we took.
25:14Oh, wait.
25:15I'm sorry.
25:16What?
25:17The most recent?
25:20Yeah.
25:21Whatever is the picture we just took.
25:26No.
25:27What is that?
25:30Let's go ahead and show the camera so they can see.
25:33It's scary.
25:34That's funny.
25:36And hold it right there.
25:40There we go.
25:45And, uh...
25:46That was the same picture in my head.
25:48That was...
25:49What's that?
25:50That was the same picture.
25:51That was the same picture in your mind.
25:52Freaky, huh?
25:53Yeah.
25:54I tell you what.
25:55Souvenir for you.
25:56You can take as many pictures of that as you like.
25:57Give it up for Hazel, everyone.
25:58Thank you so much.
26:02Next.
26:03Can Joshua J beat his own world record card trick?
26:06This is 32 years in magic condensed into 60 seconds.
26:11Artem Shukin battles with...
26:14Toilet paper?
26:18Get ready to be amazed by a magician whose passion for the art of magic shines through every performance.
26:39Known for his innovative tricks and engaging storytelling, he has wowed audiences in over 100 countries.
26:46Please welcome the incredible Joshua J.
26:55Alright.
26:58Okay.
26:59When people ask me what's your favorite trick, or what's the most difficult trick you do, the answer to both questions is the piece that I'm going to show you now.
27:08And what makes it so difficult is not just the sleight of hand, although this is truly the most difficult thing that I do, but it's also the memory involved in this trick.
27:17So, I'm going to have eight of you in the front row get a card. If you get a card, remember the one that you pick. It will be a while before you see it again. What is your name, sir?
27:26Jesse.
27:27Jesse, say stop.
27:28Stop.
27:29Right there, or do you want to keep going, or are you happy there?
27:30Happy there.
27:31Okay, you take that card. Jesse, remember it. You take one, and you take one. Please, say stop.
27:36Stop.
27:37Do you want to keep going, or...
27:38Right there.
27:39Very forceful about it. I like it.
27:41Remember this card, remember this card, remember this card. Hi. Say stop.
27:44Stop.
27:45Do you want to keep going, or... Right there.
27:48Sure. Oh, you're, you're past this. You don't care. Okay. Remember this card, remember this card. And what's your name, sir?
27:54David.
27:55David. David, how would you describe your memory powers?
27:58Pretty good.
27:59Pretty good. Low key, cocky. I like it. Welcome, David, to the stage.
28:06David, come this way with me. We are going to memorize the cards that they picked. Normally, in a magic show, you hide the card from the magician. In this trick, you're going to show us the cards that they picked.
28:17You're going to show us the cards for three seconds, and David and I are going to flash memorize it. You seem thrilled about this.
28:24Now, it does take a mnemonic, and I've been at this a long time. I use a memory palace to store all the cards, and then a link system to get everybody's face with the name, because you need to know the value, the suit, and the order that they're picked in.
28:35You'll do fine. You'll do fine. Here we go. Show us the cards on three. One, two, three, up.
28:44And down. You got them all?
28:47I do.
28:48I love it. What was the first card?
28:51It was an ace.
28:52It was an ace. Do you remember the suit?
28:54Uh, hearts.
28:56That's really good. And do you remember the second one?
28:59Seven.
29:01The suit?
29:03Uh, spade?
29:04You're taking this very soon. Here's the good news. You don't have to remember anything. I have to remember all this. I'm just really impressed you did it. Um, let me make sure that I've got it.
29:15Show me yours one more time. Queen of spades. Okay, I'll remember that. Four. Okay, good. David, here's the real job. You take these cards. Starting with this gentleman, Jesse, on the left, and then working all your way across, I want you to put everybody's card in a different place in the deck.
29:30Make sure they're all the way spread out, and then come back on stage and let everybody in the audience and at home watch you shuffle them in so they know and you know that it's fair. Yes?
29:39Got it. Go ahead. Go as fast as you can. And while he is doing that, I will tell you guys about the worst day of my life.
29:45It's true. I wanted to set the Guinness World Record for card tricks. This is a real record. It was set here in Los Angeles in 1993. Six freely chosen cards found in one minute. Now, you have to use a real pack of cards. Come on up. And that's the kind that David is using right now. That's a real pack. It's shuffled into the deck by a Guinness judge, which is what he's doing now. Ooh, an expert. I like this.
30:08Is there anybody in this audience now, in our studio audience, who doesn't believe that all of those cards are now hopelessly lost in this deck? You could shuffle too. In that case, let's send David back with some applause.
30:23So, I thought I had a shot at tying or perhaps even setting a new Guinness World Record. So, I hired the greatest memory expert in the world at the time who was based in New York. I studied with sleight of hand artists and I started practicing.
30:37This was 13 years ago and I practiced for two years until I was ready to make my debut. And then one week before the big show here in Los Angeles again, I was water skiing in Ohio. I'm from Ohio originally.
30:50And I collided with a metal buoy at 55 miles an hour. This is not magician pattern. This really happened to me. My hip, ribs, elbow, arm, all broken. But the worst part was my wrist.
31:03My wrist, the seven of the eight bones in my wrist were shattered and had to be replaced. I had a plate, five screws and two pins put in my left wrist. You can see that I went up two watch sizes on my left wrist.
31:15I've got this scar that runs up my arm. After the third and final surgery, the surgeon said, look, I think we can save your left hand, but I don't think you'll ever use it again. And I'm left handed.
31:26Now, the great miracle in my life is that after two years of training and therapy, I did get all of the dexterity back, but I still was missing feeling because of the ulna nerve damage in my fingertips.
31:39But thankfully that eventually returned. And I was able to try to best this record and I failed two times and it took me 13 years, but I'm proud to say in January of last year, I set the new Guinness world record with eight cards.
31:54And that's what we're going to do right now.
31:59Now, the only thing that I ask is for those of you who pick cards, if I find your card, I need you to say as loud as you can.
32:08Yes. So that I know that I found the right card. OK, if I don't hear yes, I'll just keep looking for the same card and we have no chance of tying this record.
32:16So as a practice, Jesse, with you, if I find your card, which I believe is the Ace of Hearts, you would say yes.
32:22Right. I mean, you could say it with some enthusiasm. This is for television.
32:27All right. Everybody know their job. You're going to say yes. You can keep track of the timing on this monitor.
32:33I cannot promise you that I will tie my record. All I can promise you is I will give it everything that I've got.
32:39This is 32 years in magic condensed into 60 seconds. Here we go.
32:50That's the first one, your Ace of Hearts. The next one should be 18th down. That should be 18th. That's the seven of spades.
32:57I'll try and find the next one with one hand behind my back. Look, one hand behind my back.
33:02And that should be the five of hearts. That was your card. Yes. But that means I haven't found yours.
33:07I said I'd find it with one hand. I didn't say which hand. That, my friends, is your three of diamonds.
33:13The next card, second row and the dress. What was your card? What was...
33:17You didn't pick one. Good, because I didn't find one for you. That's a very good thing.
33:21But I have to find your card next. It should be 18th from the top. That's your Jack of Clubs. Yes.
33:26I'll try and find yours next by causing it to come out of the deck, do 16 revolutions behind my back.
33:32It looks like that. That's your Queen of Spades. But look, you pick the next card, the two of spades. Yes.
33:40Inside the timer, your card will appear. It'll appear right here, not in my hands, but instead inside the timer.
33:47It's just a little smaller. When you take it out, it's smaller than the other cards.
33:51What was the last card?
33:53Thor of Hearts has only four seconds left. Here's to the last card. That's the last card.
33:58That's the world record. Thank you very much.
