00:00After three seasons of stories, how would you define the relationship between your two characters?
00:07I mean, it's always different, because although she's the same figure, the Cleons are always different.
00:15We're different people, we've got different souls inside of us, and even, you know, it's one of the riddles of Cleon,
00:21is that he's the same man, but he's also a very different man.
00:26In the first season, he's completely in sync with her, and then we learn by the end of the season that there is a massive rift between them.
00:37In the second season, she's everything to him.
00:42He loves her, he considers her a mother, a confidant, a teacher, a lover, everything.
00:49And then by the end, he realizes he's just a tool that she uses.
00:54And in this last season, we begin it with him calling her it, resents her in a profound way.
01:06He resents her using him, manipulating him, messing with his mind, puppeting him to control the galaxy.
01:16He wants to avoid her, hates her.
01:19And how does that make you feel?
01:22I have to say, this season, the kind of, the loneliness of Demersol is so, it's so painful, and it's so vast,
01:31that actually kind of, actually doing those scenes, it went under my skin.
01:35It was not nice to be ignored, and so, it's okay, I'm over it now.
01:40It was acting.
01:40No, but I find their relationship so interesting, and for her, because she has raised them, all of them,
01:51she has kind of guided all of them.
01:53She understands love, but can she ever, like, experience it freely?
02:00And there's always the manipulation, there's always her programming,
02:03there's always the need, what she needs them to do.
02:06So, she can empathize with them, but they can never empathize with her.
02:10Like, nobody actually sees her in the palace, nobody understands her.
02:14So, the burden and the loneliness of her is, I find this season, it was even, like, up to a claustrophobic feeling.
02:22It was kind of, yeah, it's not an easy time for her, I would say.
02:26And these characters are based on a novel, they are written on paper,
02:33but after so much time playing these roles, did you bring something to them,
02:40something from yourself, from your view, your point of view to them?
02:45Well, I guess how I would answer that is to say that I've had a good time playing them,
02:49and so I would say I tried to bring my sense of humor to them.
02:55In this season in particular, I think there's something very ironic in his view of power
03:04and his effect on the world around him.
03:09I can look at that inside myself, absolutely.
03:13But in trying to have a good time with them, I guess that's where I find myself inside them.
03:20Yeah, and I find, yeah, I think for me, kind of playing a machine, an android,
03:26and then kind of every season I notice, I start to ask these questions about
03:31what makes us human more and more, and kind of like that she's so human,
03:36like, sometimes it feels like she's more human than a human,
03:40but is she too mechanical to be a human?
03:43And kind of like, I think the further we go, the closer I get to myself,
03:49like exploring what it means to be a human being,
03:53where we are all programmed in some way,
03:56how do we become who we are and all that.
03:59So I do find her character quite personal nowadays already.
04:05That's fine.
04:05Grazie.
