00:09DAY 15. TAMING THE TONGUE.
00:12As children, many of us remember the sting of words spoken on the playground. When someone
00:18said something unkind, the first response was often, Take that back, as if retracting
00:24the words could undo the wound. But the truth is, words linger. Our minds may forgive, but
00:31our hearts rarely forget the pain that careless speech causes. James reminds us that the tongue,
00:38though small, has extraordinary power. Just as a bit controls a horse or a rudder steers
00:44a massive ship, our words can steer the course of relationships, influence the atmosphere
00:49in our homes, and even shape our own destiny. But unlike ships and horses, the tongue can
00:56easily get out of control if not surrendered to God. A sharp remark, a gossiping whisper,
01:03or a boastful statement can ignite a fire that spreads quickly, leaving behind regret and
01:08brokenness. On the other hand, when we allow the Holy Spirit to bridle our tongues, our words
01:14become instruments of healing, encouragement, and peace. A gentle answer can turn away wrath,
01:21and words spoken in love can restore what was once broken. Every conversation is an opportunity,
01:28will our words tear down, or will they build up? Reflection. What recent conversations do
01:34I need to revisit in prayer, asking God to redeem what was spoken? Application. Today, pause before
01:42you speak and ask, Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary? Choose words that plant seeds of life,
01:49not destruction. Prayer. Heavenly Father, bridle my tongue. Let my words honor you and bring grace to
01:58those who hear them. When I am tempted to lash out or boast, remind me of the power I hold in my speech.
