00:00Day 12, One Law, One Grace
00:09Have you ever watched Disney's Pinocchio?
00:13Every time Pinocchio told a lie, his nose grew longer for the whole world to see.
00:19It was a clear consequence of even a small falsehood.
00:23Wouldn't it be interesting if it were that easy for us to spot when we told a little
00:28white lie? James reminds us that there's no such thing as a harmless sin. Breaking one
00:34part of God's law means we've broken it all. This truth can feel heavy because none of us
00:40are capable of perfect obedience. Yet James doesn't leave us without hope, he points us
00:47toward mercy. Jesus himself illustrated this in John 8 verse 7 when he told the crowd ready
00:53to stone a woman caught in sin, let any one of you who is without sin be the first to
00:59throw a stone at her. Not one person could cast a stone, because not one person was without
01:05sin. What James challenges us to do is live with this truth in mind. We are all guilty,
01:12and yet we are all recipients of mercy through Christ. When we remember God's mercy toward
01:17us, it humbles us to extend that same mercy toward others. Instead of being quick to condemn,
01:24we can be quick to show grace. Instead of withholding forgiveness we can forgive freely.
01:31Reflection. How has God shown you mercy recently, and how can you pass that mercy on to others?
01:38Application. Who is someone in your life that needs to experience mercy through you today?
01:43Prayer. Heavenly Father, I confess that I fall short every day. Thank you for not giving me
01:51what I deserve, but instead covering me with your mercy through Christ. Help me to walk humbly,
01:58remembering that I, too, am guilty but forgiven. Teach me to extend that same mercy toward others,
02:05so that my life reflects your grace. In Jesus' name, Amen.
