00:00Another matchup that took place late night in Death Valley, 745 kick.
00:05LSU was a nine and a half point favorite against South Carolina.
00:09They covered, but it wasn't easy.
00:11They win this matchup, Coach, 20 to 10.
00:13The defense stepped up yet again.
00:16Turnovers killed LSU, especially in the red zone.
00:20How does Brian Kelly and LSU step up and clean that up
00:24entering this matchup against Vanderbilt this week?
00:27You know, turnovers, you have to be very careful.
00:32You don't want to over discuss it and make it so big that's all you think about.
00:37You know, there's that thought that the more the players think about it,
00:39the more it's going to happen.
00:40But you just make sure they understand, are we protecting the ball?
00:44Are we covering it up when we run?
00:46Are we making good decisions throwing the football?
00:48And I think all those things are important.
00:51I think the thing that I liked about LSU, it was their best day running the football.
00:55I think they rushed, had a good 161, 66 yards rushing in this football game.
01:01And that was huge for LSU to do.
01:04And because of that, even though they turned about, they could have won this game easier.
01:08They turned it over twice going in the red zone and could have really won this game walking away.
01:14But to get a good victory like they did over South Carolina, 20 to 10, I think right now that's a good victory for them to have.
01:22It was.
01:23And Lenora Sellers' mediocre performance, only 124 passing yards, no touchdowns, one interception.
01:31You mentioned how they turned the football over in the red zone.
01:35Nussmeyer with two critical interceptions, but he did throw for two touchdowns, also threw for 254 passing yards.
01:43He looked a little bit more healthier.
01:45He looked more confident in the offensive scheme.
01:48And that potentially should benefit this team moving forward.
01:51But I think when you just look at defenses in the conference, coach, the one takeaway from Blake Baker and LSU is that they're physical.
01:59So if their offense doesn't bring it, this defense potentially is good enough to carry this team maybe to an SEC championship.
02:07Well, that's what they've got to count on because their defense has been there consistently all year.
02:14And if their offense can pick it up, don't turn the ball over.
02:17And they ran the football.
02:19They have not run like this all season.
02:22And that's been the key to these teams that play great defense.
02:25If they'll just run the football and not make the Nussmeyers or the Sellers make them throw every time or throw under bad situations, give them protection.
02:36You know, Sellers, he was sacked five times.
02:38He could do nothing.
02:40I think he had like 19 yards of offense after all the sack yardage was taken away.
02:45But I think Nussmeyer was able to play a clean game, had a couple turnovers in the red zone.
02:49But when you run the football and play defense, LSU is right in the thick of things when it comes on chances to see who's going to play for the conference championship.
03:00Absolutely, Coach.
03:01I also think, too, it was important Caden Durham did come back.
03:05You mentioned how dominant the LSU rushing attack was entering that matchup against South Carolina that had one of the better rush defenses in the conference.
03:13LSU was able to pound the rock for 168 yards on the ground, six yards per carry.
03:20And that mattered and allowed Nussmeyer to be in manageable third downs and allowed that offense to sustain drives and pull it out.
03:28I think when you look at this team overall, just from what you see, I mean, can they be that dark horse where if they do get the offense more consistent,
03:37Aaron Anderson does come back, hopefully, to that lineup, and Nussmeyer, let's say, is healthy, did get battered on Saturday night.
03:45Do they have good enough odds for you to potentially steal it and be a team that can gain momentum down the stretch?
03:52Yeah, I mean, Joe, there's probably five teams that are in that category.
03:56But LSU is definitely one of them because, one, they've got a great defense.
04:02They've got a veteran quarterback.
04:03If they will continue to make sure that running a game is important every week and they can run the football,
04:10that's all the ingredients you have to have.
04:12Don't turn the ball over.
04:14Don't give up the big play.
04:16And then don't do those things.
04:17Great defense, run the football, and don't give up the big play.
04:22You've got a chance to win every single ball game because they're that talented.
