Transcript
00:00In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
00:18The Lord be with you and with your spirit.
00:21Dear friends, today we celebrate the feast day of the great Reformer of Carmel
00:25and also a teacher of prayer in the church none other than St. Teresa of Avila, a Spanish nun
00:31who called by God to begin again this movement of the Carmelite family
00:39to make it more faithful to its original roots
00:42and has therefore given to the church powerhouses of prayer and contemplation.
00:47I wish to remember in a special way my friends, the Carmelite nuns in Launceston in Tasmania
00:52who have been praying for us for a while now, for me for many years
00:57but also for our diocese for the last two or three years I think.
01:01So we also pray dear friends for all of your intentions that you have brought with you to this Mass
01:07for your families and friends, for celebrations of life
01:11or for the sufferings that we wish to lift up to the Lord.
01:15Dear brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our sins
01:17and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
01:22Lord Jesus, you came to gather the nations into the peace of God's kingdom.
01:27Lord, have mercy.
01:29You come in word and in sacrament to strengthen us and make us holy.
01:34Christ, have mercy.
01:36You will come again in glory with salvation for your people.
01:40Lord, have mercy.
01:41May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.
01:49Feel free, of course, dear friends, to put your intentions in our comment section
01:53and together with everyone else we will pray for you.
01:56Let us pray.
01:58O God, who through your Spirit raised up St. Teresa of Jesus
02:02to show the church the way to seek perfection,
02:06grant that we may always be nourished by the food of her heavenly teaching
02:10and fired with longing for true holiness.
02:14Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you
02:17in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.
02:22Amen.
02:29A reading from the letter of St. Paul to the Romans.
02:33No matter who you are, if you pass judgment, you have no excuse.
02:37In judging others, you condemn yourself,
02:41since you behave no differently from those you judge.
02:45We know that God condemns that sort of behavior impartially.
02:49And when you judge those who behave like this while you are doing exactly the same,
02:54do you think you will escape God's judgment?
02:57Or are you abusing His abundant goodness, patience, and toleration,
03:02not realizing that this goodness of God is meant to lead you to repentance?
03:06Your stubborn refusal to repent is only adding to the anger God will have towards you
03:13on that day of anger, when His just judgments will be made known.
03:19He will repay each one as His works deserve.
03:23For those who sought renown and honor and immortality,
03:27by always doing good, there will be eternal life.
03:30For the unsubmissive who refuse to take truth for their guide and took depravity instead,
03:37there will be anger and fury.
03:40Pain and suffering will come to every human being who employs himself in evil,
03:45Jews first but Greeks as well.
03:48Renown, honor, and peace will come to everyone who does good,
03:54Jews first but Greeks as well.
03:56God has no favorites.
03:59The word of the Lord.
04:04Responsorial Psalm
04:05Lord, you give back to all according to their works.
04:12In God alone is my soul at rest, my help comes from Him.
04:16He alone is my rock, my stronghold, my fortress, I stand firm.
04:21Lord, you give back to all according to their works.
04:25In God alone be at rest my soul, for my hope comes from Him.
04:29He alone is my rock, my stronghold, my fortress, I stand firm.
04:33Lord, you give back to all according to their works.
04:38Take refuge in God, all you people.
04:40Trust Him at all times.
04:42Pour out your hearts before Him.
04:45For God is our refuge.
04:47Lord, you give back to all according to their works.
04:51Alleluia, alleluia.
04:53My sheep listen to my voice, says the Lord.
04:55I know them, and they follow me.
04:58Alleluia.
05:01The Lord be with you.
05:02A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke.
05:06The Lord said to the Pharisees,
05:10Alas for you, Pharisees, you who pay your tithe of mint and rue and all sorts of garden herbs and overlook justice and the love of God.
05:21These you should have practiced without leaving the others undone.
05:27Alas for you, Pharisees, who like taking the seats of honor in the synagogues and being greeted obsequiously in the market squares.
05:38Alas for you, because you are like the unmarked tombs that men walk on without knowing it.
05:44A lawyer then spoke up, Master, he said, when you speak like this, you insult us too.
05:53Alas for you, lawyers also, he replied, because you load on men burdens that are unendurable,
06:00burdens that you yourselves do not move a finger to lift.
06:04The gospel of the Lord.
06:06Amen.
06:34Amen.
06:35Amen.
06:35Amen.
06:37Amen.
06:57Amen.
06:57Pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father.
07:15May your offerings, O Lord, be acceptable to your majesty, to whom the devoted service of St. Teresa was pleasing in such great measure. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
07:34The Lord be with you and with your spirit. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right and just. It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God.
07:53For in the saints who consecrated themselves to Christ for the sake of the kingdom of heaven, it is right to celebrate the wonders of your providence, by which you call human nature back to its original holiness, and bring it to experience on this earth the gifts you promise in the new world to come.
08:13And so with all the angels and saints, we praise you, as without end we acclaim, Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of hosts, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
08:31You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness. Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray, by sending down your spirit upon them like the twofold, so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
08:52At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion, he took bread, and giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying,
09:01Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my body, which will be given up for you.
09:31In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice, and once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying,
09:44Take this, all of you, and drink from it, for this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many, for the forgiveness of sins.
09:57Do this, all of you, and do this, all of you, and do this in memory of me.
10:00Do this, all of you, and do this, all of you, and do this in memory of me.
10:30Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world, and bring her to the fullness of charity.
10:59Together with Leo, our Pope, and Charles, our Bishop, and all the clergy.
11:04Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy, welcome them into the light of your face.
11:14Have mercy on us all, we pray, that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with Blessed Joseph, her spouse, with the Blessed Apostles, and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages,
11:26we may be married to be co-heirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ.
11:33Through him, and with him, and in him, O God, Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours forever and ever. Amen.
11:46At the Savior's commandment, formed by divine teaching, we dare to say,
11:54Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
12:03Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
12:12And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
12:17Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil.
12:20Graciously grant peace in our days, that by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin, and safe from all distress,
12:28as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
12:33Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, Peace I leave you, my peace I give you,
12:40look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church,
12:43and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will,
12:47who live and reign forever and ever.
12:51The peace of the Lord be with you always.
12:54Let us offer each other the sign of peace. Peace be with you.
13:03Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world. Have mercy on us.
13:10Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world. Have mercy on us.
13:15Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world. Grant us peace.
13:20Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
13:47Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
13:51Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
13:59My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most blessed sacrament.
14:05I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul.
14:10Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally,
14:14comedly, spiritually, into my heart,
14:16I embrace you as if you were already there,
14:19and unite myself wholly to you.
14:22Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.
14:25Let us pray.
14:29Grant, O Lord our God, that your obedient family,
14:33whom you have fed with the bread of heaven,
14:36may follow the example of St. Teresa,
14:38and rejoice to sing of your mercies for all eternity.
14:42Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
14:45Friends, thank you for your prayerful company today, wherever you may be.
14:49Let us continue to pray for each other, for God's blessings upon you,
14:53your families, your celebrations,
14:55and also for the things that we need to lift up to God.
14:59The Lord be with you.
15:01May Almighty God bless you,
15:03the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
15:06Amen.
15:07Go and announce the Gospel of the Lord.
15:08Amen.
