00:00Despite losing the Delhi Test match to India by seven wickets, West Indies skipper Roston Chase was pleased with his team's display.
00:10That's because the Windies took the game into day five, which they last did in November 2011 in India.
00:17While the men in Maroon surrendered the series 2-0, Chase told reporters at the post-match conference this was the sort of effort he wanted to see from his players moving forward.
00:27This is the performance that I think will give us the confidence and boost us in terms of that belief that we can do it against proper Test playing nations.
00:37So yeah, I just want to see the guys continue in this vein and don't let us go back to those ways.
00:42Even if it's for us to lose, we have to lose in a good way, in a positive way where we can have a lot of positives coming out of the game.
00:53The West Indies have now lost five Test matches in a row in the New World Test Championship cycle with three defeats at home to Australia and two away to India.
01:03According to Chase, the Windies bowling has been good, but the batting has to improve.
01:08Once we can put good first innings totals on the board, we will be able to fight for some wins in the Test Championship.
01:17And I think that we had a chat and this first year in the cycle, we always know it was going to be tough with opposition like Australia, India, and then we go to New Zealand.
01:27But I think that once we learn from what we've done in those series and take it into the next year where we have guys like Sri Lanka and Pakistan, guys that we are closer to in the rankings,
01:42I think that we can be more competitive against those once we learn from these games.
01:48The Indian spinners did major damage on the subcontinent with the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav testing the West Indian batters.
01:55Whatever the case, Chase was grateful that the batters were exposed to such bowlers and conditions.
02:01I think it's good that the guys could come down here and have exposure to especially playing spin because I think we are a bit more comfortable playing fast bowling than good spin bowling.
02:13So if the guys could have that opportunity to obviously play some more spin on a regular basis, I think that would be good for our cricket.
02:22The next Test Series for the West Indies is in December in New Zealand with the teams playing three matches.
