00:00What are some of the biggest differences between LA and Australia?
00:03Like any massive culture shocks here?
00:05The tipping thing is strange to me.
00:07And I still don't know how to navigate it.
00:09Yes.
00:10It's like you go to the bathroom and there's a guy handing you paper towels to dry your
00:14hands with.
00:15Like you tip him, like my hands are wet.
00:17I got to get my wallet out.
00:18I just washed them and I'm touching money.
00:20That's strange.
00:21You meant to tip your hairdresser.
00:23I didn't, I went to a hairdresser three times, didn't tip them and they stopped returning
00:27my phone calls.
00:27And it turns out I just, I was stiffing him on payment.
00:30I didn't know how to tip the hairdresser.
00:31I was already paying for the haircut.
00:33I didn't know how to pay for the tip as well.
00:35Tipping is a big one.
00:36I don't get it.
00:37Yeah.
00:37Well, and since COVID, they added like the tipping thing to just going to get coffee or going
00:45to like the store.
00:46And it's like, would you like to add a tip?
00:48And it's like, and it's built into the things and you literally have to deny the tip.
00:54Yeah.
00:55To like any.
00:55And it's just the way they turn it around, like, oh, just a couple of questions on the
00:58screen and they walk away.
01:00And then you have to make your own.
01:01All they do is pour it in the cup and then you go to the little station and make your
01:04own coffee.
01:05You add the milk and the sugar and I'm doing more work than you are.
01:08And I'm just like.
01:10That is a hundred percent a new thing.
01:11And that started in COVID.
01:13And when you have to add, like the price isn't the price.
01:15Like the price on the shelf is a dollar.
01:17Yeah.
01:18You go to the register, it's a dollar 14 or a dollar seven, whatever it is.
01:21Like, do you guys not have sales tax?
01:23No, we do, but it's built into the price.
01:25So if it's $10, you have $10 note.
01:27That's it.
01:29It's like the rest of the world is like that.
01:31But America just adds money.
01:33The price isn't the price because then you have to add the tax and the tip.
01:36But and in my head as well, the exchange rate when I'm spending Australian money, like if
01:40something's $10, it's like 25 Australian dollars.
01:43What do you do when you're in a hotel and they, and you get room service and then they
01:46add like the room service, like delivery fee.
01:49The service fee at hotels as well.
01:50I think the resort fee or whatever it is.
01:52Like I paid, you know, a hundred dollars a night and then I get to the hotel and oh, we
01:56have a $50 a day resort fee.
01:59That's part of the price.
02:00Put it in the price.
02:01Why am I paying extra fees on everything?
02:04It's because everyone in this country, especially in LA is full of shit.
02:10We're not upfront about anything.
02:13Yeah.
02:14Everything has extra fees with it.
02:16Like you can't do anything without, you can't leave your house without spending money somehow.
02:20I know.
02:21It's crazy.
02:22Yeah.
02:22Yeah.
02:23Culturally, I mean, but yeah, that's, that's the biggest thing.
02:25The tipping is what I'm like most unsure about.
02:27I love that you can turn right on red lights here.
02:30Love that about America.
02:31I remember actually, cause I'm so used to the tipping thing.
02:34I remember going to England one year and I left a tip for the drinks.
02:38Like I went to the bar and I left a tip for the drink on the bar.
02:42And I remember leaving and the bartender like chased me out.
02:44They're like, oh, you left your money on the counter.
02:46And I was like, thanks.
02:47I see people that work in restaurants in Australia, love Americans because they tip as well.
02:51Yeah.
02:51No one else tips, but the Americans are tipping.
02:52Yeah.
02:53Free money.
02:54I know.
02:54And when it's so funny, cause I know that when I go to other countries and I know that
02:58people don't tip, I still tip.
03:00Yeah.
03:01Cause I feel so guilty.
03:02I mean, the U.S. dollar is pretty good right now.
03:04So.
03:04Yeah.
03:04And I'm just like, I know that like people don't do it, but like, if I don't tip, it's,
03:08it's like ingrained in me now.
03:10It's like, I have to.
03:11Yeah.
03:12No, they get no wage.
03:12They're good.
03:16So that turning on red lights.
03:18What about the people?
03:19The people are surprisingly friendly in America.
03:23Like what you see on the news, you know, you, you don't expect Americans to be normal.
03:27And then you come out here and Americans are actually pretty normal, but then you do have
03:30those weirdos, like the ones that like growing up, you see Americans on TV and it's like point
03:36to, you know, England on a map and they can't do it.
03:39And like the crazy videos from Walmarts of people just.
03:42Oh, the people of Walmart.
03:43The creatures of Walmart.
03:44Yeah.
03:44Like those, those kinds of videos of like genuine insane people.
03:47You're like.
03:48That is.
03:49It's like.
03:49Have you been to middle America?
03:51Yeah.
03:51But like, when you see that from outside, you're like, that's just Hollywood stuff.
03:54Like no one's really like that.
03:55Yeah.
03:56Like they're not real people.
03:57Then you go to Walmart and you're like, oh my God, they're actually real people like
04:00that.
04:01Like it's not made up.
04:02They're everywhere.
04:03So the spectrum of people in America, like the way, how far to the crazy scale people
04:08go in America is interesting.
04:10It's pretty wild.
04:11Finding out those people are real is a culture shock.
04:13Yeah, it is.
04:14It's funny because like, you know, here in LA, because all the beautiful people come here,
04:19right?
04:19You walk around and you're like.
04:21A six.
04:23Right.
04:23You know, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like a six and I go to some other state and I'm just
04:28like, I'm a fucking 10.
04:30Yeah.
04:31You know, the crazy thing to me about dating in LA is like you're chatting to a girl and
04:35she'll say something crazy.
04:36Like, you know, she used to live in Miami.
04:38I'm like, oh, what were you doing in Miami?
04:39And she'll name drop like some, you know, like NFL player or famous musician.
04:45She's like, oh, I used to date him for a while.
04:46I'm like, you dated like an NFL player and now you're talking to me?
04:50Like my competition is like famous musicians and sports people and actors.
04:56I'm like.
04:56Yeah.
04:57But their dick ain't the size of a wine bottle.
04:59You know what I'm saying?
05:01That's true.
05:03They got to compete with you.
05:05Yeah.
05:05Yeah.
05:06No, I was like at a dinner with the girl and I just like at a bar and like accidentally
05:11in a peripheral vision called like her Instagram DMs, just all blue ticks.
05:16Like famous people.
05:17I'm like, damn, that's crazy.
05:19My competition in Australia was local dudes.
