00:00:50here on FS1 very excited to have the Monday crew back we got Dave join us remotely again like I

00:00:55said a huge weekend to get to playoff baseball as well but I don't know if there's any bigger story

00:01:02in sports right now than Penn State after a disastrous collapse over the last three weeks

00:01:09choosing to part ways with James Franklin to the tune of a 45 to 49 million dollar buyout

00:01:19it's it's it's wild it's unprecedented Dave what was your reaction when you saw the news on

00:01:24yesterday I wasn't shocked by it uh you never know he's been there so long we've seen conflicting

00:01:32stats right on at least I have the first team ever to lose as a 20 point favorite verse like it took 30

00:01:40years I don't think they're keeping stats back then I think it's the only team in the history of college

00:01:45football to lose back-to-back weeks as double-digit favorites and they're a national champion

00:01:51trendy pick I think one of the guys on this panel that's right I think one of the guys and it wasn't

00:01:57UT Bob picked this team to win the national championship so to have three losses like that

00:02:03you get your guts ripped out by Oregon's uh by Oregon right and then you just can't bounce back you

00:02:08lose UCLA they hadn't been leading the whole game you ignite their season and then lose home to

00:02:14Northwestern just a shocking turn of events I I think I like the move like what is the point of waiting

00:02:20uh your season's pretty much over maybe you get a jump from an interim coach but his time was clearly

00:02:27clearly done what are we reading that Adidas was so fed up with it they're the ones who ponied up the

00:02:33money for all like the 40 million or whatever he gets which I I had a comment people jumped down my

00:02:39throats I don't understand how college coaches get away with this it it it seems you stink at your job

00:02:46and you get all this money it isn't saying just sign the deal like what last year or something

00:02:51but um yeah it's not shocking it's shocking what happened but what like what led to this result is

00:03:00the shocking part him actually being fired not that shocking considering what's going down

00:03:06first of all congratulations to James Franklin that yesterday had to be the best day of his entire

00:03:11life somebody looked at him and said we're going to give you 45 million dollars for you not to work

00:03:16anymore that has to be incredible the best job in America is either fired college football coach or

00:03:22blogger at Barstool that doesn't blog those are the best jobs in all of America James Franklin or or

00:03:29being a fat marathoner than trying to tell people you're running it to teach people about health lessons

00:03:37that was that was something from the mince man trying to convince the world he was doing this

00:03:45as a benevolent deed to help other people that that was something to read

00:03:51you didn't take that sincere look I'm very naive and gullible and trusting me didn't take that

00:03:58sincerely Dave look at his body transformation man you think he did that to help other people

00:04:04I think that he can serve as an inspiration to others who are looking at him Frank these guys

00:04:12have changed their entire lives man top to bottom inspiration others fine to say that mincey who

00:04:19quite literally if we went and looked at his twitter profile was enough to make any man in the world

00:04:26vomit on how much he was talking about himself which is all he does for him to try to spin it

00:04:33he was being the good soldier he was gonna be the inspiration now keep in mind I hate marathoners I

00:04:41have always hated marathoners that is a long-standing tenant of mine running a marathon is no different

00:04:50than any other hobby if you like to collect baseball cards if you like to play wiffle ball but the

00:04:56marathoners will ask you money to do it and that under the guise of raising for charity this guy there's

00:05:03I thought what this guy would have paid to run the marathon give me a break he did this to

00:05:09inspiration raise money no those are side events he did you have to do it to get in this guy is the

00:05:16biggest narcissist and it's coming from a narcissist this guy makes me look like tic-tac-toe this guy for

00:05:24him to say without an ounce of sarcasm that he was running it to provide an inspiration is the greatest

00:05:32lie ever told ever by anybody he ran it because he wanted to run it he's an egomaniac he loves the

00:05:40attention no different really probably than his hogs for cause world tour he goes on okay so david's right

00:05:48the uh the shocking part about james franklin isn't isn't that he got fired isn't that they made the

00:05:53decision it's the last two two weeks two weeks and two days ago it was overtime they were leading

00:05:58oregon by seven points they were about to solidify their playoff spot they were about to join the elite

00:06:03playoff contenders and they were going to become what we thought they were going to become oregon

00:06:06fights back scores bang they go to ucla they go they they lose to northwestern and it is over just like

00:06:14that and if a team i think the message here if you coach at a place that puts the resources in

00:06:19and believes they should be a top 10 team nationally your leash is nothing anymore on the nil and

00:06:25transfer portal there is no leash there's win or go well i mean he had the leash was already based on

00:06:33all the past you already had penn state people coming into the year can't win the big one can't

00:06:38win the big one can't win the big one this i i mean this this this type of collapse

00:06:43i can't ever remember and this is a team by the way the criticism of of james franklin was he can't

00:06:51win the big one it was not that he's not going to beat the teams he should because he always did

00:06:56and he beat him like a drum so this is an extreme departure from what he's been so i don't to me he's

00:07:03had a fairly long leash i think they keep him if he does the same thing he always does which is

00:07:09because honestly for penn state if you're in the playoffs sniffing around that's pretty good

00:07:13this total collapse is so out of left field and i do wonder you get 45 million and it's easy to sit

00:07:21here for all of us and be like oh my god i don't care they could drop me off a plane in the middle

00:07:25of ocean give me the 45 to sit on my ass and do nothing if you have any pride like you don't do you

00:07:33want that like do you want that i don't know i i know it sounds so great but if you have pride a

00:07:40little bit as a competitor is this how you want to go out well no it's not you're kind of touching

00:07:46on the great irony of the coaching buyout which is the same thing that drove you to be so successful

00:07:53to get somebody to agree to that buyout is the same thing that doesn't make you a normal human

00:07:58being that could just sit back and enjoy 45 million dollars um here's virginia virginia tech

00:08:04and wisconsin should be falling all over themselves to try to get james franklin yeah exactly he should be a

00:08:08hot candidate he will be a hot candidate let me ask you all this because hey bob i think coach

00:08:13o's enjoying life he was he was because he's like the most normal guy right like he's he's like the

00:08:20most like average like how how we would be how i would be if i got a 17 million dollar buyout that

00:08:25dude wants to test in florida yeah he went to south beach he's got a house in florida he's 38 a whole deal

00:08:30can penn can penn state hire someone with a better resume than james franklin and by extension can they

00:08:38hire someone who will do better than what franklin has done the last three years that is a extremely

00:08:44complicated answer in my opinion well i mean if you look at the resume on the surface winning 10 games

00:08:49every single year no no you're not i don't think you're going to do that but you've got to win

00:08:53somebody with what you think is the uh i don't know gumption or the nerve or the whatever it takes to

00:08:58beat ohio state to beat michigan on a year in year out basis you got to find that guy i don't

00:09:03as far as a win-loss record like franklin's record just on paper is is excellent how do you find them

00:09:09and you got to remember i mean so they got franklin from vanderbilt right so he turned vanderbilt

00:09:14around the resume at penn state you should be able to be better it's also he could be a guy that's just

00:09:21not an nil guy i mean the again the nil is a relatively new thing where you can change programs

00:09:27pretty quickly and even like if you look at signetti and i don't have this answer i'm going

00:09:32off the top of my head he's also he's obviously been amazing at a program that you know had nothing

00:09:38before he gets there how many of his jmu guys are like still floating around that team like

00:09:44you almost if you know how many he's still got a decent chunk of not as many as they but they did

00:09:49leverage last year into also bringing in some like elite transfer portal talent on top of that

00:09:54but like so if you're a coach player in defense sam you could yeah if you are a coach that comes from

00:10:01a winning team and you can bring your winning culture or players with you that like is a

00:10:07gigantic move so what i'm looking at you know matt rule is the name that i i'm not 100 sure i

00:10:14understand the name but that's the name everybody's saying i talked to will compton i said what's going

00:10:19on i'm hearing your guy he goes we have f5 tornado sirens going off i don't think he's going

00:10:24anywhere but i'm in a shelter basically so i don't know why he's the name but if he comes

00:10:29the quarterback's definitely coming with him right yeah he's the name because of his penn state past

00:10:34and it's as simple as that well i'm saying from penn state what it like is he winning on a level that

00:10:40you're like oh my god i need the nebraska so who would be who would but that's why this is that's

00:10:44why he's the perfect example of the question i'm asking that's why i spent like 30 minutes thinking

00:10:49about this the night of the oregon game i i came up with three names i told you guys the day after

00:10:54i came up with signetti i came up with trinkwitz because i think he's a dork and fits that program

00:10:58yeah and i came up with fran brown because it was northeast and sec ties i think is a good mesh

00:11:03uh i didn't i didn't go to rule because i don't think rules all that great but coach i don't think

00:11:07he could handle pants penn state i don't like you can't go brown of a rule though huh and i love

00:11:12it's strictly based off recruiting and connecting to players and stuff like i what about the next

00:11:18man up dillingham's at asu lifer he's gonna get a lot of money i know arkansas has been raising money

00:11:23with interest in him dillingham becomes weighing whether he wants to stay at asu because he's a

00:11:29scottsdale born kid uh went to asu or if he wants to chase the money in a bigger national spot i want to

00:11:37refute a few things that you guys said one of them being the james franklin 110 games thing look

00:11:43at his resume blah blah what they do last year that impressed you guys how curiosity was it the

00:11:47seven point win against bowling green was at the one point win against minnesota the horrendous teams

00:11:53that they beat the easiest pass path possible to get to the semi-final which they crumbled and choked

00:11:59again what did they do last year that was so impressive that we could get it's on paper is what

00:12:03we're saying yeah they went 11 and 1 went to the playoff and they played in the final four on paper

00:12:08it all looked wonderful and they were certainly in a position to beat notre dame i mean in this day

00:12:14you're having teams beat teams if you want to look at you like the notre dame coach because they lost

00:12:18niu last year and they still made a to the championship game so in this era out the teams are ohio state

00:12:24lost three games they won the national title the coach wouldn't have fired if they didn't make the

00:12:29playoff so it's hard you're not going to find the perfect coach i think kenny dillingham

00:12:34he would be my number one guy i think he is an nil era guy i think he can recruit and i think i don't

00:12:42care if you were born in scottsdale i don't care if you're in my bar every single night arizona state

00:12:48to me will never be a total football school you have too much going on the sun the girls the pool parties

00:12:55if you want to win a national title you maybe compete once i don't know being at a penn state

00:13:01being at a a big school like that's such a jump up from arizona state who's i don't know that would

00:13:07be my guy i maybe never leave that would be the guy i would target for anybody call one should be

00:13:12signetti that has to be call number one why would he leave though and call number two should be signetti

00:13:17again to say are you sure like this is the guy who came in and immediately put indiana and well i'm sure

00:13:22we're going to talk about that win we'll get to indiana i've got some shocking indiana he was in

00:13:26the national championship discussion in a year and a half into his tenure you have to call that guy and

00:13:31give it a shot what's his deal what is his deal he he puts his hands backwards he's just like what i

00:13:39can't figure this guy signetti out like he his first thing we're gonna beat everybody you're beating

00:13:44everybody he seems like i don't know like something's off with him as like he just doesn't there's

00:13:51something weird to him but all he's doing is winning he's just sassy angry he's not just that

00:13:58puts his hands on his hips weirdly his arms are inverted it goes all the way up to his like his

00:14:03breastplate it's crazy did uh well dave i so maybe expound on that a little bit because like uh you

00:14:11obviously hire a lot of people right and so you're used to being in this position even if the settings

00:14:15different like it do you think penn state wants to put their thumb on the scale to try to catch a

00:14:20riser like dillingham or is it like matt rule or brian kelly or you try to go or dabbo do you kick

00:14:26the dabbo tires brian kelly so those you just mentioned two losers he's trying to get rid of

00:14:32brian kelly that's the winning look that's an lsu fan trying to get him off the payroll i have a 50

00:14:44million dollar buyout myself that has to be contended with eventually but but no in all

00:14:49seriousness though because in theory you're hiring commodity or to win a natty right can you find a

00:14:55resume out guys i i think now i guess if you're looking at matt rule and you guys are saying he's a

00:15:01penn state lifer and this and that and he won that's his dream job that was the rumor

00:15:05maybe i'm being naive why can you win at penn state not nebraska yeah i mean that's a good

00:15:14question kind of inclined to they're not they're not all that dissimilar no and i mean you could win

00:15:20anywhere in this era right so so that's to me to me matt rule um look what signet we just talked

00:15:26about signety at indiana a year and a half has them as a potential you can win and you can win in

00:15:30more places you can't win anywhere indiana is just hyperbole i think you can win anywhere

00:15:36franklin not winning a big game that's the knock on him they're going to the king of not winning big

00:15:42games that stat that comes up in nebraska they haven't beaten a ranked team in 100 years that's

00:15:48the guy like so and i like matt rule he's a nice guy but i mean i don't understand the appeal of that

00:15:53move at all like none and to be honest i don't get it from rules perspective if anything i this

00:16:00would be a blessing to me from that rule because it reaffirms hey like you better you better appreciate

00:16:06me here in nebraska because i feel like they were like you this guy hasn't won a big game in forever

00:16:11oh wait penn state's interested in him maybe we should be happy with what we got but i don't

00:16:16understand that lateral move at all to me uh kenny dillingham is a riser is is in there i'm sure

00:16:23there's more out there but that is somebody i'd be very interested in the other thing i really think

00:16:28you're going to look at nowadays and i know it's short term but if you can establish the success in

00:16:33the first year or two so what are you bringing with me like all right i'm hiring you who are you

00:16:38bringing do you have a quarterback do you have because that is what signety did he brought a

00:16:42army of guys with him who he knew could play football yeah and i know that's it's interesting

00:16:48to think i wonder if dillingham has that right now but david levitt what year is levitt uh he's young

00:16:53he's sophomore uh right yeah i mean if if you get dillingham and you get levitt you're a top 10 team

00:17:00it's it's funny though dave because i think you just touched on the dynamic of why these buyouts

00:17:04come about right that whole idea of look at this job opening all of a sudden they're interested in my guy

00:17:09and then you get jimmy sexton in a room the shadow lord of college football and he says hey

00:17:14pay up or my guy's gonna leave um and texas tech is the perfect example by the way you can buy your

00:17:21way yeah into national title contention like that yeah this is why i don't like people talking about

00:17:28like again the whole buyout thing like oh 50 million you could find the money if you like i sat on

00:17:34roughness on saturday there's nothing that the average man average one cares more about than their

00:17:39college football team their alma mater the team that they care and root for every single saturday

00:17:43being good at football there's nothing people care more about it so if you have the money you're

00:17:48going to find ways to invest get the right resources and get going and you guys are bringing

00:17:52up adidas right adidas pushed for franklin to be out weeks ago it's not just because of northwestern

00:17:58it's not just because of ucla it's because they knew hey if we're we're investing in this school

00:18:04we want this school to be one of our our flagship programs right james franklin's not the guy in our

00:18:10eyes an administration after the tumble said you know what we can't do this anymore so it's a

00:18:15combination of both those saying hey time to move on i can't believe that we what i gotta fight back

00:18:21on one thing some people care about more than that some people care about inspiring people through

00:18:25running marathons yeah that's true fair actually really fair heart all right all right all right we got

00:18:30we got to go to break we got to go to break but on the way out here a little food for thought james

00:18:35franklin 4 and 21 against top 10 teams steve sarkisian 5 and 18 and get the rule record rule is like oh

00:19:14all right got a bunch of things to get into with you guys i'm gonna start last night late we got a

00:19:24brawl at the end of the game i'm not a hundred percent sure what what caused it i guess branch

00:19:30was saying he was being blocked in the back he walks by mahomes mahomes sticks out for high five

00:19:36he ignores it mahomes slaps him five anyways pats him on the shoulder and then next thing you know

00:19:42branched cheap shots juju smith schuster and all hell breaks loose on the field dan campbell after

00:19:49the game press conference this is not what we do here we don't i mean that's that's a crazy cheap

00:19:55shot um this is not what we do here we don't do this i'm gonna start with you coach is there any

00:20:01element of dan campbell when he's publicly at going you know this is not what we do here that you're kind

00:20:08of happy with the fight you're like you lost by two scores this is a big game so you're saying to

00:20:14the media we don't do it but in your heart you're like i like the fight that my team's showing even if

00:20:19it's a cheap shot or is this just something i don't know you find the guy and you're like we actually

00:20:23don't do this here well i think the lions have already proven they're gonna fight they're gonna

00:20:28fight until the end they fought through injuries they fought rehabbing this whole franchise i mean

00:20:33they've been fighting their butt off for a few years that's taking it too far that could have

00:20:38escalated into something really bad i didn't like seeing branch take that shot he's too good of a

00:20:44guy too good of a player clearly i just think the emotions got the best of them i thought dan

00:20:48campbell did a great job putting the hammer down making sure it doesn't happen again greg same yeah i

00:20:56agree with coach i i think campbell is one of my favorite guys in the league one of the coolest guys

00:21:01to talk to one of the most fourth you know forthright and honest his production calls every

00:21:06time you you're around him you're just like man i would like love to play for this dude um i thought

00:21:11he handled it great i think branch like coach said he's a hell of a player he's been a big part of that

00:21:15turnaround you just can't do that he did get blocked in the back juju did hit him in the back a

00:21:21player two earlier there's penalties for that right there's flags there's ways to monitor that all of a

00:21:27sudden in the handshake line granted an open fist but albeit a punch you just can't do that at any

00:21:34level let alone the nfl i thought dan was right to just come out and completely just say we have no

00:21:39tolerance they're tough they're gonna battle they're gonna fight they didn't play particularly

00:21:44well last night so there's obviously some frustrations boiled boiling over but um yeah i don't think

00:21:50publicly or behind the scenes that's something that dan campbell wants his team to be a part of

00:21:55another coaching question going to the college ranks kirby smart clearly calls timeout on the

00:22:04sideline clearly running down timeout timeout one second left on the play call then he starts saying

00:22:12i believe he's saying the other team is clapping auburn's maybe singling the signs somehow they don't

00:22:19charge him with a timeout they don't get a penalty they don't get anything i've seen obviously any

00:22:25time you get to the sec some people are saying he should be electric chair some people are saying

00:22:30he should be fined is is this hey you if you ain't cheating you ain't trying like what is going on here

00:22:37what do you is this over the line coach what again we'll start maybe christmas he changed his mind give

00:22:44the guy a break i've had several times where i've taken a timeout and an official says are you sure you

00:22:51want that timeout and i said no i guess i don't i mean we are allowed to make a mistake once in a

00:22:57while and see if we can change our mind fortunately for the referee for georgia they gave kirby smart

00:23:04a mulligan but i was at me and malisak were at georgia watching him practice as far as i'm concerned

00:23:11nobody should criticize kirby smart he is the baddest dude in college football he runs the best practices

00:23:18i love kirby smart far as i'm concerned he can do whatever he wants mulligans mulligans coach coach

00:23:27i'm surprised i thought you were gonna say it's your own fault if they're simulating your snap count

00:23:32i know how much you hate guys clapping yeah for the snap count so i thought that's the direction you

00:23:38were gonna go yeah i i mean i think the notion that he should be fined is absurd i mean listen this is no

00:23:44the gamesmanship of a sideline in football you were trying to get every call if your guy holds

00:23:51you're sure as hell not like raising your hands you don't call fouls on yourself this is not like

00:23:56backyard football backyard street basketball where like you got to call fouls on your own

00:24:00the referees have to make a decision he clearly was calling timeout there's no question he was

00:24:06calling timeout he had an unbelievable story in his back pocket that he used in his press conference

00:24:11to then change his mind when they were going to get the play snapped in time and they weren't going

00:24:15to take a delay that he was using about the clapping i don't fault coaches for trying to find

00:24:22every it's not illegal he's making a case he's pleading his case pay somebody then the ref has to pay

00:24:28the ref has the ref was wrong i think it's no different than if there's a blatant pass interference

00:24:33or there's a blatant face mask and they miss it like there are rules for the refs to officiate by

00:24:39they don't always get it right coaches make their they plead their case the entire game

00:24:45that referee on the sideline has kirby smart in his ear arguing and defending everything

00:24:51it's just the nature of the score interference the guy that's a that's that's oh he called timeout

00:24:57oh he 100 percent called out so that that and you and you blew your whistle and said timeout

00:25:03overturn it yeah you can't overturn it i'm saying the burden i in my mind is on the official

00:25:07these officials lately getting away with murray you you have to fire or suspend that like that is

00:25:15he called timeout you gave him a timeout he says he's clapping or whatever go to the booth he wasn't

00:25:21clapping he wasn't auburn has been on the back end of this all season long um back to the nfl we go

00:25:27back and forth this is a two-part first of all uh tua the dolphins are disarray tua gives a press

00:25:33conference and i've seen some different takes on it he essentially stands up there and says listen

00:25:38guys aren't coming to meetings they're late we have no leadership we need a leader now he's the

00:25:43quarterback of the team he's playing his ukulele greg start with you what do you think of airing out

00:25:48the laundry here yeah so twofold i think player-led meetings like we always had a saying if they're

00:25:54starting to be player-led meetings let alone in week four and five you might as well just pack your

00:25:57stuff up because you're probably all getting fired i think player-led meetings are usually when all hell

00:26:03has broken loose and there's nobody running the show and things have just gotten completely out of

00:26:08touch that's my experience around locker rooms that felt the need to do those um i'm also a big believer

00:26:14that when it comes to like players and what's going on in your meetings i don't mind a guy standing up

00:26:20there and being honest there's been many times in my career where i stood in front of a camera and i

00:26:25said listen we stink we haven't been good but i think you have to include yourself in the negative

00:26:31i always believed if i'm going to stand there and point and be critical i'm going to include myself

00:26:37in the group it can't be those guys are not doing a good job those guys are being late those guys are

00:26:43not paying attention to detail whatever it is so i think that was his mistake i don't mind him being

00:26:48honest i don't like the fact that it appeared that he was talking about everyone other than himself

00:26:54i don't personally like that i don't think that's the job of standing at the podium behind closed

00:27:00doors you can be very honest with guys in public as the quarterback when things are bad or as a leader

00:27:05of the team oh whether it's your fault or not you have to put yourself as part of the problem

00:27:11if not it's going to appear me versus you and i think it just makes things get worse coach what do

00:27:15you think of player meetings well i think player meetings have a purpose obviously you don't want to

00:27:21have a lot of those player meetings and sometimes when adversity strikes you count on your players

00:27:27to collect their thoughts individually and maybe they can come up with some solutions but i don't

00:27:32like players or coaches airing the dirty laundry to the public i think there's a lot better ways to

00:27:39handle this i used to tell our pr guy before anybody got on the podium after a tough loss just make sure

00:27:47they compose themselves collect their thoughts two has got to show up in that building today and see

00:27:53his teammates and he's going to have to address it with them individually and collectively that can

00:27:58be uncomfortable i just don't like players and coaches getting behind a microphone after a game and

00:28:04airing dirty laundry i don't think it helps anybody i saw you know i'm always kind of obsessed with

00:28:10like what's going on with the fashion and whether you can equate well this guy dresses like that that's why

00:28:14they stink we have two coaches in the league wearing capri pants all right we got two guys wearing

00:28:21capri pants the jets coach and here we go and mcdaniel as an nfl football coach if you see this guy's

00:28:29pants i don't think you can win with these pants and the two guys wearing these capri pants they got like

00:28:36one win combined them i know we got a little tiff greg but coach i mean this is the nfl you can't

00:28:45i see sean mcveigh sean mcveigh wears those pants they had a does he yeah i seen raheem morris wear

00:28:51those pants those pants are really fancy i i uh don't think they would look good on me but i always

00:28:57thought this dave you show up to the stadium just like the players show up at the stadium you go to

00:29:03your locker and you wear what everybody's wearing you don't put on your designer shoes and your barstool

00:29:10hat and you got all these shirts with all these slogans on them some of the gear these coaches

00:29:15are wearing now it's ridiculous i like the coaches to look like coaches and be in a uniform that all

00:42:44in sacks and tfls by a mile second in red zone touchdown percentage and first in opponent red zone

00:42:51touchdown percentage so make no mistake those are the most important stats to winning yeah they're good

00:42:55this no no that's not good that is great that is elite and that's with shutting down altmeyer that's

00:43:01with shutting down dante moore on the road where they gave up the pick six and then to tie it and

00:43:05what they do they still go win the game by 10 indiana's dominant they're great one team in the

00:51:05losers yesterday they need that game i don't know when lamar is coming back

00:51:09but i'll tell you this afc chiefs patriots bills those are three teams that can win it

01:00:47he falls to the fourth round nobody can tackle this guy he seems like a mini gronk like all this

01:00:54guy does football weight room girls like a true football guy what are executives looking at and

01:01:02what they don't like his 40 time like if you're in the draft room to me you just look at a guy

01:01:09scataboo using samples like why isn't people taking him quickly and it's the whole culture thing too

01:01:15what is going on when you pass on a guy like that well it's just not a perfect science look at college

01:01:21football some of the highest ranked prospects don't play well in college either it's just the

01:01:27way it is i mean cam scataboo i don't even know if he got a scholarship he went to sacramento state

01:01:32he transfers the arrows uh arizona state he's always been under the radar and you're right he's a

01:01:39sawed off mike allstott the way i see him um but he's another example of either poor scouting

01:01:45or a guy that just slipped through the cracks and i'll say this too credit to brian daybull for giving

01:01:51him a chance some guys just need a chance they need a certain environment where they can take off

01:01:57and launch themselves and i credit brian daybull for giving him that shot and if tyrone tracy didn't

01:02:03get hurt if singleton wasn't playing well perhaps he doesn't get this opportunity but i just love

01:04:46runs at the table playoff team playoff team so that we still have everything in front of us

01:04:52we just got to keep improving we we also again we went out playoff team as well no i don't know that's

01:04:58actually that's that's functionally mathematically not true well unless they win what you guys are

01:05:02both you're both oh yeah football fans and just said no to the big 10 champion making the playoff

01:05:22biggest kind of uh college football memes and moments from the football weekend that was yeah i

01:05:27mean oklahoma state i love this trying to channel the magic that indiana captured just a few years

01:05:35ago when indiana fans were shirtless and they kept flooding to a section and waving their shirts and

01:05:42that changed the program for the better oklahoma state down horrendously bad trying to capture that

01:05:47same magic this is what makes college football college football you ain't seeing this at a national

01:05:51football league game yeah which which begs the question why don't nfl teams i know it's hard to

01:05:57do it bands you need bands and fight songs belong in every football stadium uh the commanders do they

01:06:05they still good what do they do with that song i don't even know do they still do hail of the redskins

01:06:09even though they're not the redskins i would imagine no i don't think they would do the song anymore

01:06:13do they still have the band though i'm not sure i haven't seen the band in a while

01:06:17well then that's a tragedy when you look at me look that up go ahead and look that up

01:06:23because that that i don't i don't care i listen pc not pc i get it you gotta make an exception keep

01:06:31hail the redskins you just have to yeah uh another game that we haven't touched on a lot outside of

01:06:36talking about where they would rank would be alabama mizzou over the weekend of course this was a massive

01:06:42moment for mizzou the score in my opinion a bit closer than the flow of the game like mizzou was

01:06:49fine but statistically alabama kind of dominated this one brandon what were your biggest takeaways

01:06:54yeah it's just that alabama and i thought missouri was going to win this game i believe in their

01:06:58quarterback a little bit too much he played really poorly my biggest takeaway from alabama though is

01:07:02they are winning these close games for one reason and one reason only ty simpson they are getting in

01:07:08these big time games in fourth quarter these drives he had a fourth and eight and he threw a

01:07:12dime on the sideline right there then he had a fourth and three later he throws a touchdown pass

01:07:17yeah they when they're getting in these games and alabama's coming into missouri and missouri's

01:07:21quarterback is playing poorly and ty simpson's making all the plays it's impossible it's impossible

01:07:26for a missouri to beat alabama in that situation i don't know how how good alabama is as far as going

01:07:32down the road but they are surviving these tough tests in the sec they're showing some some grit and

01:07:38some gumption and now they got another one against tennessee he had six or seven big time big time

01:07:44throws yeah big time like he he's he he's just he he's built different than a lot of the quarterbacks

01:07:51in college football right now because he's cut from a different cloth and like just listening to him

01:07:56talk pre-game post-game gets gets me fired up because that it's a lost art in this era it really is

01:08:02this isn't the nick saban alabama teams that just come into your building cut your throat and then

01:08:06watch you die this is a team that just absolutely it's it's going to be a fight it's going to be a

01:08:11war and they've got a a soldier at quarterback but when push comes to shove and it's a money down

01:08:16alabama's winning the money down like every single time their third down uh ratios are unbelievable

01:08:23their play calls from from deborah and grubb on third downs are so clutch their quarterbacks putting

01:08:28on the money also k on the bar 12 and 2 on the in the black can i can i can i just uh and i thought

01:08:33alabama would win this game i think missouri is trash i think any time you watch a team

01:08:38that needs a field goal and a two-minute drill and they can't even get three yards and they can't

01:08:43missouri is trash and i don't want to throw cold water because i actually bet uh ty simpson win the

01:08:49heisman at 20 to 1 all right because i know ball and i it was a great bet bloodman it was an

01:08:54absolutely spectacular bet um it was and what is he now plus 370 so of course listen this guy here

01:09:00doesn't get the credit for knowing ball like he knows but let me throw a little cold water again

01:09:05on the sec he's winning these sec games the sec is a weak conference they played one out of conference

01:09:14game oh boy florida state and they lost by 30 so again you gotta take it all relative alabama may be

01:09:22the best team in the sec i actually think it's texas a&m but this conference is going to get their

01:09:28faces caved in in the playoffs just like they did last year when tennessee goes to ohio state do you

01:09:36remember that game they broke their helmets the good everybody got killed by ohio state in the

01:09:40playoff well not everyone got killed by ohio state in that same time frame michigan beat the piss out

01:09:47of them same time frame that's what we're doing now the same time well then same time frame

01:09:52my god we can't is out there in the same time frame as right now back to michigan uh to to to your

01:10:02point look the point is here ty simpson deserves to be celebrated in a day and age where everybody

01:10:07leaves transfers elsewhere he overcame a lot of adversity he lost multiple starting battles he stuck

01:10:13around now he's being rewarded for why are they so good liam you mentioned third down it's because

01:10:17they're on schedule he's constantly on schedule and then as you said grubbing the money downs the

01:10:22fourth and three that was massive so alabama looks really good dave i mean they're better than the fsu

01:10:27game right i mean we allow teams to allow fsu is trash yeah fsu's bad fsu's gotten worse i i think

01:11:14down tex state fair and really what a day for the longhorns as they just kind of handle oklahoma

01:11:20coming into this game the team that rushed for more was 24 and 1 that is now 25 and 1 with a bullet

01:11:27and a great day for arch manning who has maybe been the most overly criticized player uh in recent

01:11:34memory i don't agree with that part i think he the criticism was because of his mechanics issues

01:11:39he had a lot of issues the first four or five weeks of the season mechanics looked fine on saturday

01:11:43fine but don't say he was overly criticized he was criticized he was criticized because he didn't

01:11:48play well well on saturday he played very very well and he ended that game he ended that game with

01:11:53that 30 yard run and waving to the oklahoma fans that was some sass i love to see out of arch but i mean

01:11:58he was overly praised but he was also overly criticized well yeah his last name's manning so

01:12:02that comes with the territory yeah and they've been bad now again i predicted this game i sound like a

01:12:07broken record i knew texas was going to win this game um so i had them i i this is a rant that has

01:12:13nothing to do with anything but a rule that has to be changed in college football i said it in real

01:12:17time you can't i hate hate hate hate how you can have the same numbers on both sides it's so

01:12:24stupid you got the free safety wearing number 16 and he looks like arch manning's body type a little

01:12:31bit i don't know when they changed this but there's enough numbers you can go i don't care if you have

01:12:37to put a 101 on a walk on or whatever stop doing double numbers when did that happen i hate that you

01:16:28of so granted they hate each other this was number one yeah religious they're also very close i didn't

01:16:33know they were that close yeah i didn't know we're apart wait but brandon this was number one on your

01:16:38list to visit right yeah when we were at utah i said the number one place i wanted to visit was

01:16:42lavella ever stadium at byu and number two of course was uh whatever rice eccles at utah rice eccles

01:16:47but uh but yeah incredible troll sometimes when you go a place the the number one thing they want to

01:16:52get across to you is how awesome they are or how great welcome welcome in all they want to talk

01:16:56about was how much they hated byu hell yeah hell yeah and byu equally was like what are you doing

01:19:46gone three days rest had an awful season six innings of one run ball damn like just putting his guts on

01:19:54the table and just just are you walked into this meek like if the mlb could draw up a worse series

01:20:01they probably couldn't pick two teams that are you know you got the pacific northwest and the blue jays

01:20:06canada just i have no i'll watch if it's on but like i was watching the nfl game over this last night

01:20:14that's a good point the the the friday night game because it wasn't going against nfl that was

01:20:50game five like this series could be over in five games very easily and like y'all could be in the

01:20:55world series which is mariners fans were crying in the fifth inning i've never seen anything like it

01:21:06cry earlier in a game that's not over it was bananas dave they've all speaking bananas

01:23:54other night it did not look very fun going up there it had to be an elite day with the boys on saturday

01:26:05the lowest ranked man to ever win a 1000 he won 1.1 million dollars in this tournament for his career
