00:00:00What's up, y'all? Welcome in to the Monday morning edition of Wake Up Barstool, which means it's me, Brandon Walker, Dave Portnoy, and then we got Meek Fell and Liam Bluntman behind the Blast of Nerds, and we got all your favorite segments, man.
00:00:14We got to recap some massive news out of Baton Rouge as Brian Kelly is out as the LSU head football coach. Brandon's big, tough weekend in Starkville. A ton of NFL to get to. Great Sunday night game last night. Patriot Dave expected to be cockier than ever. Football G-Spot with Greg Olson and John Gruden and Coach Gruden's shred line. So a ton to get to this morning at Wake Up Barstool. Let's get it on on FS1.
00:00:44What's up, y'all? Welcome in to FS1 Monday. Wake Up Barstool. Dave, what's going on, brother? The new house looks great or new setting, whatever it is. It looks fantastic. How are we doing?
00:01:08Good. I'm doing even better because I woke up and saw there's a hurricane. Hurricane Melissa is about to hit Jamaica, praying for all the people in Jamaica, but I thought it was coming right at me. I was going to lose my house. So good start to the day. It's getting a little bit of back to old times here because I'm waking up and having victory Mondays left and right. Michigan wins.
00:01:32Michigan wins. The Patriots win. Both teams look very good. Michigan, okay. But feeling good. Good day for sports. I know you guys got a bunch to get to, obviously. I don't know, T-Bob. Is it a victory Monday for you because Kelly got fired?
00:01:46I'm going to say yes. You know how sometimes you can't be honest with yourself until you have the benefit of hindsight? Like, I have sat here for three and a half years gaslighting myself into believing in Brian Kelly. And Brandon's tried to dissuade me of emotion. Many people have, right?
00:02:06And it was Brandon doesn't believe in him because Brandon week to week says LSU's back and he loves LSU and Brian Kelly going to turn the ship around. He literally says that every single week.
00:02:17No, I simply said history over the last three years dictated that that might happen. What? And obviously they quit on Saturday night and then they quit on Brian Kelly.
00:02:24What Brian, what Brandon has said a lot and since day one is that Brian Kelly is not a fit, never was a fit. And that's a line that many of that go. That's a line that I fought against and gaslit myself against for years, which now appears to be
00:02:36Well, exactly correct. It was never a fit. There was no connection. And honestly, yeah, I'm glad it's over. The softness of the culture that I witnessed over the last two weeks out of Baton Rouge was the saddest display that I have ever seen. And so far, such a far cry from what this LSU Tiger football team was for over 20 years in its golden era where they were the bullies as opposed to getting bullied.
00:03:03So yeah, get him the hell out of here. He's lame. It sucks. And, um, who hired him? Now that's what I get to know who, because to me, I was one of the guys. And I think as you know, I, I ended up being on more national programs, whether it's wake up barstool, big noon, kick off our own programs. Time is really reflecting beautifully on me. Like a lot of my takes now are out there. And one of them was right from the jump that this guy was the wrong guy. He's not an LSU guy.
00:03:31The fake accent day two, when he shows up at the job, the video with the recruit that everybody plays and they're doing that thing around. He was never the right guy.
00:03:40I defended that. And I hate that. My question. Now, my question is, I knew he wasn't a guy. A lot of people, I'm not going to be the only one who took this take. It's like, you get a fake Louisiana accent, all this.
00:03:52So whoever fired him, whoever hired him with the AD, is this still the same AD? Because this should not be just Brian Kelly. See you later. Whoever was involved in hiring this guy should be gone.
00:04:04This is the same guy who hired Jimbo at A&M and gave him a $75 million buyout. Now he does it at LSU. I don't know how much the buyout is going to end up being.
00:04:13But the same guy that gave Texas A&M program to Jimbo Fisher gave the LSU program to Brian Kelly. Same guy, T-Bob.
00:04:20I know. Dave, what's your reaction to learning that?
00:04:22Are we not saying that?
00:04:23No, it's Scott Woodward.
00:04:25It's Scott Woodward. He's been a long-time AD working his way up through Washington to A&M and then back home to LSU. He's an LSU guy.
00:04:33So this guy still has a job today?
00:04:35He still has a job today. Now this story goes...
00:04:37And he's going to hire the next guy.
00:04:39This story goes deeper than y'all realize. To be fair to Woodward, all other programs under his purview are doing very well.
00:04:47You got another baseball natty. You got gym natty.
00:04:49None of that matters.
00:04:50That don't matter. That don't matter.
00:04:54Y'all are correct.
00:04:55Come on.
00:04:56Especially when it comes to Louisiana.
00:04:57He said gymnastics, Dave.
00:05:00Bro, gymnastics was 15.
00:05:03Livvy Dunn did great with that gymnastics program. Get out of here, T-Bob.
00:05:08Football runs the show.
00:05:10And this football team's a disgrace, a joke.
00:05:13Vanderbilt's favored.
00:05:14Whoops, their butt.
00:05:16They quit A&M.
00:05:17I was right on both sides of those.
00:05:19Go back and read and said A&M is going to crush this soft little team from LSU.
00:05:24And you're happy about the gymnastics team.
00:05:26You got to get Bob Woodward.
00:05:28Is that his name?
00:05:29Scott Woodward.
00:05:30That's the guy that got Nixon out of all of them.
00:05:32Yeah, that's the deep throat guy.
00:05:34Yeah, you got to get the Woodward guy.
00:05:36How many programs do you let them destroy?
00:05:39And by the way, I don't see his name.
00:05:41I haven't heard his name mentioned at all.
00:05:43I've been looking.
00:05:44Who is this guy?
00:05:45Get him out.
00:05:46So in Louisiana, there's a unique setup where the governor has more control over the university
00:05:53than probably just about anywhere else.
00:05:55Like they appoint the entire board.
00:05:57And, well, Jeff Landry is a very aggressive governor.
00:06:02And apparently, he has had, reportedly, allegedly, I should say, he has had Woodward in his sights
00:06:09through this process.
00:06:10But it appears that by hook or by crook, by some sort of machinations and scheming, I think
00:06:16Woodward's going to survive.
00:06:18And he's going to pick the next guy.
00:06:19I think he's going to get to pick the next guy.
00:06:21So he's going, Jimbo, Jimbo, total failure, one of the great failures, and only one of
00:06:27the great failures.
00:06:27The second they get Jimbo out, you get Mike Elko in, and he's running the program in the
00:06:34class of the SEC.
00:06:36I don't get that.
00:06:37A lot of times, I feel like these ADs and the people on top get a free pass, and Woodward
00:06:42should be gone.
00:06:42That's my treat.
00:06:44And by the way, I like LSU.
00:06:46People think I don't.
00:06:47I couldn't see this kid, Bryce Underwood, go into that program and ruin his life.
00:06:52And that was part of the pitch.
00:06:54I said, listen, you've got a coach over there.
00:06:56He's a bum.
00:06:57He's running this program into the ground.
00:06:59If you want to go to a real program, you've got to forget about LSU.
00:07:02Your whole college career will be a disgusting disaster.
00:07:06So he goes to Michigan.
00:07:07But you've got to get this guy out.
00:07:08College football, it's one of those hypotheticals.
00:07:11People always say, what does it mean?
00:07:13College football is better when LSU is good.
00:07:15When you have to go to Death Valley, and you know the crowd's going, and the chants, and
00:07:20you know, the, what is it, the suck my D, tiger tail, all that, much better when it's
00:07:26good.
00:07:26Right now, you guys are a joke.
00:07:28We're laughing.
00:07:29I laugh at you guys every week.
00:07:30You've got to get Woodward out.
00:07:31And this is the first step, though, getting this guy out.
00:07:34Yeah, again, all this is very fluid.
00:07:37It could change.
00:07:38We are speaking on whispers and rumors.
00:07:40And you know how this stuff works.
00:07:41Everybody thinks they know.
00:07:44But who cares?
00:07:45Who do you want?
00:07:46Who do I want to be head coach?
00:07:47Who do you want to be the head coach?
00:07:48Great question.
00:07:49I think there's a very realistic, the realistic number one target is obviously Lane Kiffin.
00:07:55He's the hottest candidate in a market that is kind of, there's a dearth of candidates
00:07:59and a ton of open jobs.
00:08:01It means that the price is going to be incredibly inflated.
00:08:04Rumors are Ole Miss has a 12 and a half offer on the table.
00:08:07Rumors are Florida has a 13 mil a year offer on the table.
00:08:11So if you want to play, you're going to have to pay.
00:08:15That's peanut butter and jelly.
00:08:17Lane Kiffin and LSU.
00:08:18Those two things go together.
00:08:20Man, he could do anything there.
00:08:22And that is kind of, and that is, it's always been said and whispered about in back rooms
00:08:28that Lane would love to go to LSU.
00:08:30It has been really interesting.
00:08:31But the last hiring cycle, LSU thought they were above that.
00:08:34They went with the more august hire in Brian Kelly.
00:08:37Since that moment, Kelly's been middling 5-11 against ranked teams.
00:08:40Lane has been great.
00:08:42There is something interesting, though, that maybe some of the older big money guys are
00:08:46intimating they would seek.
00:08:49And that is the return of the Crimson Emperor, Nick Saban.
00:08:54Oh, come on.
00:08:55I don't think.
00:08:55What are we doing?
00:08:56I don't think.
00:08:57Now we're wasting our time.
00:08:58Now we're just wasting our time.
00:08:59Again, again, again.
00:09:01I'm not, I'm just, I'm just saying, if y'all want.
00:09:03No shot.
00:09:04If y'all, no, I'm not saying.
00:09:05That's why I said.
00:09:06That's who the big money guys want.
00:09:08I'm saying that is who the old men who have the money, who push this forward, who are angry.
00:09:13That's who they're going to make say no first.
00:09:16Well, I want Sidney Sweeney on the show every Monday morning.
00:09:18Can we get that?
00:09:19Yeah, I mean, that.
00:09:20I don't know.
00:09:21Dave has Madison Beer's number.
00:09:22He doesn't have Sidney Sweeney's number.
00:09:24No, Meek's already asked.
00:09:25There is absolutely no shot.
00:09:27And by the way, Nick Saban, I don't think he's.
00:09:29The moral high ground in a lot of areas, you know, but even Nick Saban, I don't think
00:09:36there's a dollar figure that would let him go back to LSU because then he's done in Alabama.
00:09:41He's an Alabama guy for life.
00:09:43That's his, that's his legacy.
00:09:45He's an old man now.
00:09:46How old is he?
00:09:47He's 73.
00:09:48So look, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I'm inclined to agree.
00:09:51Lane Kiffin's your guy.
00:09:52He's got to be the guy.
00:09:53Because after Lane Kiffin.
00:09:54He's got to be the guy, T-Bob.
00:09:55We've got to get him down there.
00:09:57No matter what, we've got to get him down there.
00:09:59Yeah, yeah, I agree.
00:10:00But after Lane Kiffin, in all seriousness, like, who's the next best attractive candidate?
00:10:05Are you already getting into, like, several territories?
00:10:07It is a big drop off.
00:10:09It, like, drink at Missouri, but I don't know how, he's nowhere near as attractive as Lane
00:10:14is.
00:10:14Well, no.
00:10:14Unless you steal a sitting head coach, like Dan Lanning, could you steal Dan Lanning?
00:10:18I think Lanning's super content in Oregon.
00:10:20I'm just throwing those ideas out there.
00:10:22I know by doing that.
00:10:23Dan Lanning would work at LSU.
00:10:24I don't know that he's leaving Oregon.
00:10:27I mean, you never know how much is, these guys are already making so much money.
00:10:31So, you know, listen, I wanted to move Brian Kelly.
00:10:34I didn't understand the move from Notre Dame to LSU.
00:10:36Like, I didn't get that.
00:10:38So that's a very good point.
00:10:39I mean, the last time they had this job open, they did get Notre Dame sitting head
00:10:42coach.
00:10:43It didn't work.
00:10:43So, but if they could get Notre Dame's head coach back then, they could get a lot of
00:10:47coaches right now.
00:10:48There's my number one job available.
00:10:50LSU goes to the top of the list.
00:10:51LSU over Florida, over Penn State.
00:10:53Those are the three biggest jobs, no doubt.
00:10:56But LSU is the number one job available.
00:10:58So this does call up, though, just a way larger conversation, which is already, we have
00:11:02an FBS record 12 major jobs open at this point in the season.
00:11:07There's never been so many jobs.
00:11:08There's going to be plenty more that are available.
00:11:09Florida State's coming.
00:11:10And there's just, there's just no candidates.
00:11:14I mean, you're, you're going to have.
00:11:15And the jobs are opening because NIL, because you can turn a program around in 24 hours.
00:11:21So I think the fear, like you look at a James Franklin, who for the most part had it going
00:11:28at Penn State for a long time, has a down year this year when he's supposed to be good.
00:11:32And they say, see ya.
00:11:34I think the risk of being like, well, we can just get a new coach.
00:11:37He can go NIL.
00:11:38He can recruit.
00:11:39He can do this.
00:11:40You can turn things around instantly, instantly.
00:11:43So I think the ability to fire a coach is less daunting or scary than it is pre-NIL area.
00:11:50That's actually a very interesting point.
00:11:52And to the point, Dave.
00:11:54Okay.
00:11:55I said very interesting.
00:11:56I didn't say great.
00:11:56That was a great point.
00:11:59It was a, it was, we'll see.
00:12:01We'll see.
00:12:01Uh, but, but I will say this, the lane hire would be the ultimate investor confidence
00:12:08move, right?
00:12:09Like if you don't want the donors to dry up, if you want people to keep committing money
00:12:12to the program, you go hire lane.
00:12:15Everybody's a plus happy.
00:12:16The money's flowing in.
00:12:17You don't miss a beat.
00:12:18And to your point, you should be able to put together a very good roster immediately next
00:12:22year.
00:12:23What about let's go tires?
00:12:25I look, man, you know, I'm, he's down in Miami beach.
00:12:28Just chill.
00:12:29But didn't he say the other day he wanted to coach?
00:12:31Yeah.
00:12:31He has to coach again.
00:12:32Yeah.
00:12:32He wants to coach again.
00:12:33He's getting back.
00:12:34Let's go Tigers.
00:12:34He wants to be head coach.
00:12:35He can probably get in that living room.
00:12:38He said, he said he would be open to taking a position coach role.
00:12:43Uh, if it was on a championship team, I find it hard to believe that he might want
00:12:48to go to the place that he wants was the head of at LSU, but, um,
00:12:52I'm not saying head job T Bob.
00:12:54I'm not saying position coach.
00:12:56Listen, no, I know what I'm saying is I, I don't think they, I don't, that is one
00:12:59that I don't think they would run back though.
00:13:00I love coach Joe and I would, uh, I, I'd convince myself on that.
00:13:03I'd want a national title.
00:13:04Listen, LSU is cooking when they got, let's go Tigers.
00:13:07They got the mad hatter with his hands like going reverse.
00:13:10It's a strange, unique place with strange, unique guys who prosper there.
00:13:18Brian Kelly, as I said, in real time was never the fit.
00:13:22And by the way, I don't know if it's just made up.
00:13:25You see all the clips of Brian Kelly.
00:13:27Does anybody like him?
00:13:28Like, does even his wife like him?
00:13:31It's, so it's a weird thing where I found him on like a interpersonal level to be kind
00:13:37and like, he'd have like somebody feeding him information.
00:13:41So he'd give you like a personal anecdote and whatnot about yourself, but it was just
00:13:45ultimate politician vibes.
00:13:46It wasn't all hatred, but to hire from the start.
00:13:48There were some people that like to hire.
00:13:50Like this one person said, Brian Kelly is so underrated.
00:13:52He's had a top five program in Notre Dame the last five years with recruiting restrictions.
00:13:56And he's going to kill what LSU advantage is.
00:13:59Yeah, that's what I said.
00:13:59Who said that?
00:14:00Brandon Walker said that.
00:14:02When he got hired, the second, the second he got hired, I thought it was going to work.
00:14:06I thought Brian Kelly was fantastic.
00:14:07But Dave's right.
00:14:08The second he showed up and he faked his accent and he does the recruit video, like as soon
00:14:13as he actually showed up in Baton Rouge, because on paper, this should have worked.
00:14:18On paper, they were getting a guy who had built a playoff team and Notre Dame, a consistent
00:14:22playoff team, and it should have worked.
00:14:24And the second he gets there and he starts saying family and he starts doing all this
00:14:27stuff, it was like, no, this guy doesn't fit at all.
00:14:30It took about five minutes.
00:14:31There's certain places that culture is just so important and LSU is one of, I don't actually
00:14:39know how many places like you need to fit in with the culture and the vibe and everything
00:14:45going.
00:14:46LSU is one of them.
00:14:47What, I mean, off the top, I don't know, it may be the only one I can think of off the
00:14:52top that is so based in like Louisiana culture and everything about it.
00:14:57And he goes in and fakes it.
00:14:58It was a disaster from the word go.
00:14:59Again, like even from a governmental standpoint, LSU and by extension, the football program
00:15:05to your point is, is it is intrinsic to the DNA of the state.
00:15:11And that's why, despite the fact, I mean, you look, I want to say Kelly won.
00:15:16If you look at the Kelly tenure last three and a half years, I want to say LSU won more
00:15:20games than like 12 of the 16 SEC teams.
00:15:24They won the division in his first year.
00:15:25They won the West of year one, but ultimately what it comes down to, and this is kind of
00:15:30interesting because this is what Notre Dame fans were telling LSU fans at the time of the
00:15:33hire.
00:15:34We all wanted to ignore it is he kind of looks like an easy win merchant a little bit.
00:15:40Yeah.
00:15:40The stat that I keep going back to.
00:15:42By the way, that's what Notre Dame still is, by the way.
00:15:44Which, which figure.
00:15:45By the way, by the way, he killed to be an easy win merchant right now.
00:15:49He's not an easy win merchant.
00:15:51He's a lose to everybody merchant.
00:15:53Emphasis on he would kill.
00:15:54Brandon, you bring that up.
00:15:56In 2021, someone told Brandon Notre Dame doesn't play anybody good until a CFP.
00:16:01And Brandon said, this isn't true.
00:16:02It's a lazy narrative.
00:16:03That's wrong.
00:16:04Well, that, that is correct.
00:16:05That, that was not true.
00:16:06Meek Phil is on you today, Walker.
00:16:08Meek Phil's on him.
00:16:09He thinks that's his only value.
00:16:10I don't know.
00:16:11I don't know what to put this kind of seat for.
00:16:12You took Rico out.
00:16:13Take this idiot out too.
00:16:14It's gotcha culture.
00:16:15He is, Meek's entire job is Brandon Walker gotcha culture.
00:16:18He's on the gotcha beat.
00:16:19I mean, you can just give me the list.
00:16:20I'll tell you what I thought at the time.
00:16:21I was all about Brian Kelly at the beginning.
00:16:23Going back to the easy win narrative, the reason why it feels so bad for LSU fans, even
00:16:28though the overall record looks fine, is five and 11 in ranked games.
00:16:32So anytime that you have played anybody with a pulse, right?
00:16:36Anytime you've been on any semblance of a stage, you have lost over double the amount
00:16:41of times you've won.
00:16:42What was Coach O's record?
00:16:4321 and 13 against ranked teams, even with the five and five year, even with the losing
00:16:48record year the next year.
00:16:50He was just great on the big stages.
00:16:52I'll also, I saw a random comment from an LSU fan last week on, on X, Twitter, whatever
00:16:58you want to call it.
00:16:58And it really summed it up.
00:17:00And this isn't gotcha culture.
00:17:01I just read it.
00:17:02I'm like, that's something that goes, he said, we're, we're underdogs against Vanderbilt.
00:17:08This is just disrespectful.
00:17:10And that is the state of LSU football, really.
00:17:14And I know LSU is good.
00:17:16I mean, Vandy's good.
00:17:17I believe in Vandy, but you can't live in a world.
00:17:20And Michigan went through it a little bit.
00:17:21Uh, you can't have LSU not be favored against teams like Vandy and then lose.
00:17:28You just can't do it.
00:17:29So the change had to be in now, the difference between like the advantage of firing now and
00:17:35letting them run out the string.
00:17:37Was it so you can start the, the, the coaching carousel now and the look, I don't always get
00:17:41that you're, uh, you know, over halfway through the season, but he had to go.
00:17:46He's a bum.
00:17:47You, you pointed out the biggest thing the other night was them quitting.
00:17:50Like that, that game was, they got, they got, they came out, A&M came out playing hard
00:17:54in the second half.
00:17:54LSU laid down and quit in Tiger stadium in front of everybody.
00:17:58I mean, and it's the fact that you had A&M fans in the third quarter, sawing it off in
00:18:04Death Valley, taking over.
00:18:06And then after LSU scores the meaningless touchdown, they do the LED light show.
00:18:11Yeah.
00:18:12They do my, I had a buddy at the game.
00:18:14He said, light shows are expensive.
00:18:16He said, this is supposed to be a pantheon of concrete and steel, not Bella Noche.
00:18:21LSU has lost, they've lost the face of their father.
00:18:24I tuned in at one point and it was on similar to Michigan.
00:18:28But I tuned in and I said, holy with the, with the S word, because I saw the A&M fans
00:18:34doing that sway.
00:18:35Yeah.
00:18:36That's sawing them off.
00:18:37I know.
00:18:38Unbelievable to be disrespected by the Casey Smiths of the world in your own house.
00:18:44That is as low.
00:18:45I would, I maybe would have walked down and fired him at the spot.
00:18:48But again, the AD shouldn't, shouldn't be getting off the hook.
00:18:52That's my moral.
00:18:53He's going to go to, you got to take responsibility.
00:18:55Anybody who hired, this should be part of the deal.
00:19:00When a guy signs a contract, like he did with Brian Kelly and the buyout, if you're going
00:19:06to fire the coach, it, the AD automatically has to get fired too.
00:19:11That's how it should work.
00:19:12You don't get to, you don't get to scapegoat the guy.
00:19:15You're just as culpable as the coach.
00:19:17It's your hire.
00:19:19And this coming from a man who knows a lot about hiring.
00:19:22Coming up next, we got the football.
00:19:24It never fires anybody.
00:19:25It don't fire anybody.
00:19:26Well, that's why.
00:19:27That's exactly my point.
00:19:29That's why I didn't say fires.
00:19:31Good.
00:19:31Let's keep it that way, Dave.
00:19:32Please.
00:19:33Please.
00:19:34All right.
00:19:34Coming up next, the football G-Spot.
00:19:36Craig Olson and John Gruden, Dave Portnoy bring you all the biggest moments from the weekend.
00:19:40FS1.
00:19:42We got this.
00:19:46We do it every Monday here on Wake Up Barstool.
00:19:49It is once again time for the football G-Spot.
00:19:52Got me feeling nice.
00:19:54I love football.
00:19:55Knock on wood if you're with me, everybody.
00:19:56Can I finish my point?
00:20:01Welcome, guys.
00:20:02I'm feeling good.
00:20:03It's another Victory Monday for me.
00:20:05Michigan win.
00:20:07Patriots win.
00:20:08It's feeling like old times.
00:20:09I wake up Monday with a smile on my face.
00:20:12Now, three franchises who I feel like, and you guys can throw in someone else if you think,
00:20:18but we're getting to that part of the season, pretender contender, and you start playing games
00:20:22where you show yourself.
00:20:24It's like, okay, this team's going to hang around and be there.
00:20:28Three teams that I feel like flunk this test.
00:20:31I'm curious your take, the worst.
00:20:33The Bears.
00:20:34The Bears go into Baltimore.
00:20:36Baltimore is desperate for my win, but they have no Lamar Jackson.
00:20:39He's out.
00:20:40Bears are playing good football.
00:20:42They're starting to look like maybe Caleb Williams coming around, and they look awful.
00:20:47Pittsburgh lead at halftime.
00:20:50End up getting trounced by the Packers.
00:20:53Everyone's wondering, are they a real team?
00:20:55They end up getting, giving up, what, 21 in the fourth quarter.
00:20:58They look like they're positioning now for draft picks.
00:21:02And the Cowboys, who have gone back and forth, decimated by injuries, but then they beat Washington
00:21:07by 20 last week.
00:21:08You're like, oh, is this team okay?
00:21:10They go into Denver, and they get annihilated.
00:21:13We'll start with you, Greg.
00:21:14If you have anybody else, who had the worst loss this weekend?
00:21:19I think of the teams that are in contention, teams that have been on the rise the last couple
00:21:24weeks.
00:21:25I think it's Chicago.
00:21:26I think Baltimore's reeling.
00:21:28I think all the controversy of thinking they were getting Lamar potentially back, and then
00:21:31obviously everything that went down on Friday, it turned out he was not as close to being
00:21:35back, and it was all the speculation about the injury report and everything.
00:21:39And then, you know, Tyler Huntley plays well, and that's probably the worst the Bears have
00:21:45looked probably in the last four or five weeks.
00:21:47So I think the Steelers lost, listen, last night, that game, a lot going on there with Rodgers
00:21:52back playing against the Packers.
00:21:54I think the Packers are for real.
00:21:56I think Jordan Love is for real.
00:21:57So I think that loss, I think a lot of teams are going to lose to Green Bay.
00:22:01You mentioned Dallas.
00:22:03Their offense, I still think, is good.
00:22:05I know they weren't as good yesterday.
00:22:06Dak had some struggles, throwing a couple picks.
00:22:08But yeah, I think Chicago's loss.
00:22:12That's one you've got to have.
00:22:13The Ravens couldn't buy a win the first part of the season now.
00:22:16And that's one they're going to look back on as that NFC North kind of comes into picture
00:22:22at the end of the year.
00:22:22That's one you look back, and you're like, you've got to beat a team without their starting
00:22:26quarterback that's only won a game up to that point, especially if you think that you're
00:22:31in contention to make a playoff run.
00:22:33Coach?
00:22:34I like the three teams you picked, Dave.
00:22:36Those were bad losses.
00:22:37I throw the Minnesota Vikings in there, too.
00:22:40You know, here's a team that they looked terrible the other night against the Chargers.
00:22:44They got destroyed on both sides of the ball.
00:22:47They have issues now what they're doing with the quarterback position moving forward.
00:22:51I throw the 49ers in there, too.
00:22:53I know Mac Jones has been playing for a while, but the Houston Texans have been invisible on
00:22:59offense.
00:22:59They put 475 yards on this 49er defense.
00:23:04It was a tough day at the office watching a lot of these games yesterday, I'll say.
00:23:09You know, that's a different question.
00:23:10I didn't have it on the list.
00:23:12I feel like, and people have said it all the time, but if you're just sitting down, watching
00:23:17college football on a Saturday, these games, 90% of them are more exciting than these NFL
00:23:23games.
00:23:24These NFL games, few and far between, I don't know if they can serve the play calling, but
00:23:28for me, give me the college football Saturday.
00:23:31Speaking of, Lane Kiffin gets in a little do-to-do with an Oklahoma player after the game.
00:23:37Let's show the clip here.
00:23:38He's talking trash at the end of the game.
00:23:40Coach, how much does that go on when you were coaching, where you're talking trash with
00:23:45the players on the field?
00:23:46It goes on quite a bit.
00:23:48I talked trash when I was doing Monday night football.
00:23:51What does that mean?
00:23:52I think it's just part of competing.
00:23:54You know, these players, these guys get up for a game.
00:23:57They got to try to get themselves up for games.
00:24:00They got to get their teammates up for games.
00:24:02Emotions take over sometimes, but I never had a shouting match with a player after a
00:24:07game like that, but I thought Lane Kiffin handled that pretty good.
00:24:11The kid was obviously jawing him during the game, and they hooked up after the game, and
00:24:15I thought Lane, all he had to do was point at the scoreboard.
00:24:18That was a pretty convincing win for the Rebels.
00:24:21Greg, you ever go at it with a coach?
00:24:23Coach, not after a game.
00:24:26I've had a couple back and forths, and again, nothing overly dramatic or personal, but Sean
00:24:32Payton was one that used to, like, he was not afraid to get into it.
00:24:36You ended up on their sideline, a controversial play, a catch.
00:24:39He was not afraid to kind of go back and forth with players, but again, like all in good competitive
00:24:44spirit, all in good nature.
00:24:46It is an intense game.
00:24:48These guys are fired up.
00:24:49I actually thought Lane, I agree with Coach, I actually thought Lane handled it really well.
00:24:52He's doing his post-game press conference.
00:24:55It looked, again, that short little clip, it looked like the Oklahoma kid came to him, and
00:25:00then Lane was just kind of paying off what was a day of back and forth, and was calm and
00:25:05collected, and didn't personally insult the kid or anything.
00:25:08So I actually thought it was good entertainment.
00:25:10I thought it was good spirit.
00:25:12I think people would be shocked, the amount of back and forth, the amount of intensity
00:25:19between players, between coaches, players and coaches.
00:25:22Like, an NFL sideline, a college football sideline is not for the faint of heart.
00:25:27If you're going to have your feelings hurt, if you're going to be, you know, if you're
00:25:30going to be insulted, it's not the place for you.
00:25:32And I think when everything, when the dust settles, everyone goes back to their locker room
00:25:36and you move on pretty fast.
00:25:38But I have no issue with it.
00:25:40I like that Lane is fiery.
00:25:42I like that Lane is competitive.
00:25:43I like that he says what's on his heart, and he says what's on his mind, and he doesn't
00:25:48give all the PC answers.
00:25:50And I would love to play for him.
00:25:51I love everything about him.
00:25:53They're talking him.
00:25:54We had earlier.
00:25:55So, Brian Kelly, gone at LSU.
00:25:59Lane is the name that's the top of T-Bob, who is a LSU graduate.
00:26:04Now, I'm sitting T-Bob.
00:26:05I don't know if you can hear me right now, but there's a guy on this panel.
00:26:08As I'm thinking, looking around, who sometimes gets named in these coach circles, Coach Gruden
00:26:16would absolutely light.
00:26:18I thought you were talking about me.
00:26:19I did, too.
00:26:20No, Coach Gruden would absolutely light Louisiana on fire.
00:26:24Imagine this guy down on the bayou.
00:26:26The funny thing is, and I guess now I have the opportunity to just ask Coach himself,
00:26:30but, like, when I was in college, there were always rumors about Miles getting fired,
00:26:36Miles going to Michigan, and the first name that we would always hear was John Gruden.
00:26:41Coach, were you ever in discussion with LSU in the past to come be the head coach or agent
00:26:46or anything?
00:26:47Not that I recall.
00:26:48I don't like what I'm seeing, to be honest with you guys, with all these coaches being fired.
00:26:54It's not even November yet.
00:26:56I know there's a lot of expectations on these guys, but college football is very difficult
00:27:02right now with the transfer portal and the NIL and navigating all this stuff and trying
00:27:07to establish a culture and, you know, getting your coaching staff to stay online with you.
00:27:12It's a crazy world of college football right now, but I hope they find some good replacements
00:27:18out there because some of these teams might be sorry they did what they did.
00:27:22Coach, I got a question for you.
00:27:23Would you rather be an NFL coordinator or a college head coach right now?
00:27:28Oh, great question.
00:27:30I'd probably rather be one of those, I don't know, I'd like to be a head coach.
00:27:34I'd like to give it a shot again.
00:27:36I mean, I sit in a dark room and study tapes most of the day, and I'm not going to try to
00:27:41fuel any, any rumors or anything like that, but I'll be ready to go if I, if I get another
00:27:46shot, I'm just trying to keep my job.
00:27:48I have to coach, you know, there's no bigger fan of yours than mine.
00:27:54I love you.
00:27:56If you lose to Vanderbilt as the LSU coach and lose at home by 25 to a and M, I would be
00:28:04calling for your head.
00:28:05And that's as somebody who likes you.
00:28:07So I, you, Brian Kelly, it was time for him to go.
00:28:11That program had run its course.
00:28:13This isn't year one of the Brian Kelly regime.
00:28:16How many years was this guy there running the program into the ground?
00:28:20He's making crazy videos.
00:28:24Malisek wouldn't let you get out there and make those videos.
00:28:26He'd say, coach, we're not doing these fake accent things.
00:28:30So I get some coaches, short leash, Brian Kelly, time to go.
00:28:36I mean, you wanted him to have more time.
00:28:38All I'm saying is the SEC is a lot different now than it was five years ago.
00:28:42I mean, I look around, I see Texas, I see Oklahoma, the whole landscape of the league
00:28:47is different.
00:28:48And putting together these teams is a hell of a lot different than it is seven or eight
00:28:52years ago as well.
00:28:54Brian Kelly's a good coach.
00:28:55I'm sure he'll land on his feet and I just hate seeing a lot of coaches getting fired
00:29:00before November, but that's just me.
00:29:03Yeah.
00:29:04That's coach speak.
00:29:05I mean, Greg, what would you think?
00:29:06I don't know how closely you're following that.
00:29:08What do you have fired this guy, Brian Kelly?
00:29:11I have a general rule about firing and obviously I follow NFL more than I do.
00:29:16I follow college football more than just a fan on Saturdays and whatnot.
00:29:19I don't study the landscape, the carousels, who are the next coaches.
00:29:22My general rule is, though, I think teams are so quick to fire and then the question
00:29:27becomes, okay, fine, fire the guy that you don't want anymore, but are you confident
00:29:31that you can guarantee you're going to find someone better?
00:29:34And I think that's always the question you have to ask, and especially at the NFL position
00:29:39where you see all these guys, you get a quick hook.
00:29:42And then the guy they replace them with sometimes often is worse.
00:29:46So I think that's a huge part that people have to take a step back, fan bases, you know,
00:29:51ownership in the NFL or obviously ADs in the college game.
00:29:55So I do think the challenge going on right now is because there are so many top jobs available.
00:30:01You know, Florida, Arkansas, Penn State.
00:30:04I mean, we got major, major college football programs that need to find this.
00:30:08And are you telling me there's five really better coaches than Brian Kelly and James Franklin
00:30:15and some of these guys that have been doing this for a long time?
00:30:18Or maybe you can find one.
00:30:19Are you going to find five?
00:30:20You can be able to replace all of these programs at once.
00:30:23Arkansas, another SEC school that has big aspirations.
00:30:26So I think a big challenge is going to be the top coach, whoever that is deemed as the number one target.
00:30:32He's going to be the number one target for a handful of teams.
00:30:35And only one of you are going to get them.
00:30:37So now the question is, what do you do if you don't get the star of this, you know, recruiting class, so to speak?
00:30:43And is when the dust settles, are you better off than you were three months earlier?
00:30:48I don't know that every team can make that guarantee.
00:30:51Firing always seems like the answer in the moment.
00:30:55I think you have to see over the next six to 12 months, whether or not that firing actually led to you getting better.
00:31:02Or did you just stroke a big check and start all over again?
00:31:04Yeah, no, I don't want to rehash it.
00:31:06But another question, which we discussed in the first segment, in LSU's case, the guy who hired Jimbo Fisher at A&M, total disaster, and hired Brian Kelly.
00:31:16He's still there.
00:31:16So he's still the one making the decision.
00:31:18I think he should be fired, too.
00:31:20You mentioned the ownership.
00:31:22Well, you're laughing because it's like, I mean, what's going to change?
00:31:26This guy doesn't hire a head coach.
00:31:30Ownership.
00:31:30You mentioned ownership.
00:31:32You got the Jets owner.
00:31:34Woody, what's his name?
00:31:36Woody Johnson.
00:31:37Woody Johnson.
00:31:39Ambassador to Europe, I think, at one point.
00:31:41Or London or something like that.
00:31:43Now, he comes out.
00:31:45The Jets, one of the worst franchises in the history of football.
00:31:48Just they're one of the worst franchises.
00:31:50They hadn't won a game.
00:31:51Comes out, kills the coach.
00:31:54They turn around and get a win.
00:31:56What are you guys thinking?
00:31:57I know, Coach Gruden, you've played for some of the craziest owner, maybe Al Davis, the Davis that's ever lived.
00:32:05So what do you do when the owner gets involved like that?
00:32:08Does that hurt the locker room, help the locker room?
00:32:10You say, just keep that out.
00:32:12How do you deal with that?
00:32:14Well, it's tough.
00:32:14I mean, obviously, you've got to have a thick skin.
00:32:17But, you know, when your owner talks to the media, like the owner of the Jets did,
00:32:23that can be really painful and it can be humiliating and it can really be toxic.
00:32:29I give the Jets credit, man.
00:32:31I mean, they went on the road to Cincinnati and beat the Bengals coming off a huge win against the Steelers.
00:32:37They had every reason to pack it in and quit.
00:32:40They were behind a couple scores and they found a way to get it done.
00:32:44I give Aaron Glenn, I give the Jet players a lot of credit.
00:32:47But, you know, Woody Johnson, I think he's the guy that had that long necklace on last year during one of the games.
00:32:53Some owners, they got a lot more firepower, I guess, with the media than others.
00:32:58Jerry Jones is pretty outspoken.
00:33:01I think he got after the Cowboys a little bit yesterday too, Dave.
00:33:04But Al Davis, he wouldn't necessarily go to the media.
00:33:07He would be knocking on my door and calling me at midnight if he had a problem.
00:33:11Well, did you respect that more?
00:33:13I do.
00:33:14I like when you handle it behind closed doors.
00:33:17I think we talked about Tua a couple weeks ago saying some things in the media that you probably regret saying the next day.
00:33:24I'm sure Woody Johnson, to a degree, doesn't probably understand how the media can take it and run with it.
00:33:31But I do think he probably regrets some of those statements.
00:33:34But I like it handled a lot better behind closed doors.
00:33:38I think that's the best way in the long run.
00:33:41Greg?
00:33:42Yeah, I think the NFL is built on speaking the truth, right?
00:33:46You have to be honest with your players.
00:33:48You have to be honest with your coaches.
00:33:50In all different aspects of the relationships across the board, you have to be able to be honest.
00:33:55And if guys are going to be sensitive and personal, again, like I said earlier, kind of joking about Lane Kiffin, like it's just not the sport for you.
00:34:02But having said all of that, you are going to have to put out so many fires as a player, as a coach, especially a team that hadn't yet won a game.
00:34:10You got a young, you know, a relatively young quarterback in Justin Fields who is up and down.
00:34:15Is he the starter?
00:34:16Is he going to be replaced?
00:34:17And then for ownership to go out and just make the biggest fire of it all, which is to criticize, you know, coach, quarterback, you just, you can be honest.
00:34:28You can be a leader that's going to go directly, you know, to coach's point, like call Aaron Glenn directly.
00:34:34You want to sit down with Justin Fields and tell him exactly what the expectations are.
00:34:38You should as the owner, as the coach, as any position of power.
00:34:41However, the format and the messaging is just so critical in the NFL because you are going to have noise, and especially in New York, to add gas to the fire that you're creating and just make it worse is really not in anybody's best interest.
00:34:58That locker room already has enough challenges.
00:35:00That head coach already has enough headaches.
00:35:02Justin Fields was very honest, and I give him a lot of credit, not only to win that game, the team to rally to score 39 points.
00:35:09I don't think they scored 39 points in the last three games.
00:35:13He was very honest in his postgame presser.
00:35:15I'm not sure if you guys saw it, but like, he's like, I had a dark week.
00:35:18Like, I spent time, you know, by myself in my closet.
00:35:21I was praying.
00:35:22I was, he was emotional about it after the game.
00:35:24Like, people don't realize just how these guys are affected by what he said.
00:35:29He said he was in his closet?
00:35:30Yeah, he said he had like a dark moment.
00:35:32It was like a very personal press conference.
00:35:34Did you guys see it?
00:35:35He said he ran into it.
00:35:36Yeah.
00:35:37I actually saw the headline, and I thought he was being facetious, dead serious.
00:35:41I thought he was like doing it the other way.
00:35:44Like, oh, I don't care what the owner says, but he was being serious.
00:35:46I thought he was being serious.
00:35:48He was.
00:35:48Yeah, I thought he was being serious.
00:35:50So, all that to say, I give the Jets a lot of credit.
00:35:53I do think in frustrating times, we've all said things in postgame open locker room, postgame press conferences, that the next day you're like, was it the truth?
00:36:03Yes.
00:36:03Did it have to be said in that format?
00:36:07Probably not.
00:36:08And now.
00:36:08Yeah, and also, what he doesn't exactly, like, he has a franchise of ineptitude.
00:36:13So, I mean, there's some owners maybe where you put a little respect on there, and it's like, well, this guy's running a pretty good franchise, doesn't speak that much.
00:36:21When you're in the New York Jets, I don't know that you care.
00:36:23That's why I thought he was facetious.
00:36:24Like, what do I care what this guy says?
00:36:26This guy has run this franchise into the ground.
00:36:28So, it was a good win, and it brings up, we haven't talked to the other side of that win.
00:36:33The Cincinnati Bengals, they bring in Flacco, and that's a franchise.
00:36:39I don't even know what to put the Bengals into.
00:36:42There's another horrific franchise.
00:36:44But finally, it looks like they got the guy in Burrow, right?
00:36:47They make a Super Bowl.
00:36:49They look like they're knocking on the door.
00:36:50Now, he continually is getting hurt, and whether his career will be one that he couldn't stay on the field, time will tell.
00:36:58But that is a franchise, and speaking as a fan, they were getting cocky.
00:37:02They were getting obnoxious.
00:37:04It's like, oh, these Bengal fans, they're talking a lot of trash.
00:37:07They're doing the who day all over.
00:37:09To lose that game, their season's over again.
00:37:12I don't know what to think about these Bengals, because that is, it's one thing to have no hope.
00:37:17But to have hope, and then have it crushed, I guess as long as they have Burrow, they'll be like, well, next year, next year, next year.
00:37:25But that is a franchise, man, that looks like they're going back down to the depths of the ocean.
00:37:32How smart is Mike?
00:37:33Go ahead, Coach.
00:37:34I got to say, Cincinnati Bengals, they defensively have drafted a lot of players, a lot of players over the last several years.
00:37:42Their philosophy, obviously, is draft and develop kind of like Green Bay.
00:37:46Hey, this defense has not developed.
00:37:48I mean, they got a lot of high picks on every level of that defense.
00:37:52They just fired Lou Anarumo, the defensive coordinator.
00:37:56Guess where he is right now calling them up?
00:37:58He's with the 7-1 Colts.
00:38:00So you bring Al Golden.
00:38:01Al Golden's a good coach.
00:38:03But if you don't have players, I don't care what kind of coach you are.
00:38:06And I go back to some of these college coaches.
00:38:09These players are getting paid a lot of money.
00:38:11Some of these players got to play a lot better.
00:38:14And some of these players got to quit getting hurt.
00:38:17Hell, there's about 10 guys on every team that don't even play.
00:38:20And we sit here and bitch about the coach.
00:38:22Let's fire him every day.
00:38:23I say we get some of these trainers run out of the league and get some of these players to give back their money because they got to play better.
00:38:30But the Bengals' defense, that was disgusting.
00:38:34That was a terrible effort yesterday.
00:38:36500 yards versus the Jets.
00:38:38And the Jets don't have a receiver that I can name.
00:38:41I can't name their wide receivers.
00:38:43And they got gashed.
00:38:45And they weren't ready to play.
00:38:46And offensively, their offensive line, they haven't given an offensive lineman a second contract since Clint Bowling.
00:38:54I mean, this is a bunch of rental properties on the offensive line.
00:38:58And Burroughs hurt every year, it seems.
00:39:00So we're rambling.
00:39:02But I'm from Ohio.
00:39:03And these Bengals kicked me off yesterday.
00:39:06All right, Greg?
00:39:07No, and yes, defensively is clearly their issue.
00:39:11Every time I see the Bengals, though, all I think about is how right Mike Tomlin was, though.
00:39:16And I know they didn't win this game.
00:39:18But Tomlin, before they beat Pittsburgh last week, he's like, I don't know, maybe the Browns are smarter.
00:39:24You know, they shipped out a guy that was good enough to be their week one starter.
00:39:27And they send Flacco.
00:39:28And they end up beating Pittsburgh.
00:39:30They come to life on offense.
00:39:32Jamar Chase catches 500 passes.
00:39:34And listen, I know they lost.
00:39:36They scored 38 points.
00:39:38So, like, when I think of the Bengals, whether their season is done or not, like, all I think about is Mike Tomlin was dead right.
00:39:47Why would you trade a quarterback like Flacco, give life to a team that was utterly used, they were horrible on offense and defense, gave them life at quarterback following Burrow getting hurt, and they end up beating Pittsburgh.
00:40:01And then, of course, they lose a shootout here to a Jets team that hadn't scored 39 in a long time.
00:40:06So, yeah, the future there is going to be all dependent upon can they just get status quo and average at defense.
00:40:13Because offensively, they're going to score points.
00:40:16They've got two of the best receivers in the league.
00:40:17When Burrow does come back or Flacco, whoever is that quarterback, score a lot of points, you're not going to give up 30-plus a game and think you're going to make much of a run in the NFL.
00:40:27That's just not going to happen.
00:40:28But I just find it funny that Tomlin called to the Jets.
00:40:31Yeah, not just 30.
00:40:32You've got to put an asterisk 30 to the New York Jets.
00:40:35You've got a guy who I know are being delicate about it, but to a quarterback who you guys just said was sitting in a dark closet crying because the owner.
00:40:43That is, I don't want my quarterback to do it.
00:40:45Drake May is not sitting in a dark closet crying to himself.
00:40:49Drake May is out there throwing touchdowns.
00:40:50So, I know we want to be delicate about it.
00:40:53I don't like hearing my quarterback has locked that.
00:40:55You know what?
00:40:56I lost the 4th of July races in my town.
00:40:59You have 4th of July races as little kids.
00:41:01You're like 7, 8 years old.
00:41:03It's like a 40-yard dash.
00:41:04I came in second one year.
00:41:06I slipped.
00:41:06I locked myself in a closet and cried.
00:41:08I was 6 years old.
00:41:09Thank you guys for coming on the show.
00:41:11We'll get you next week.
00:41:12I don't want my quarterback crying in dark closets.
00:41:15Get mad.
00:41:15Don't cry in dark closets.
00:41:18Oh, man.
00:41:19That is the Football G Spot.
00:41:20Huge shout-out to Greg Olson, John Gruden.
00:41:22We've got Shredlight coming up next hour.
00:41:24Let's get into Sunday Night Football and Peyton Bay next year.
00:41:28Grown man.
00:41:29He's a grown man.
00:41:30He's got 4th of July races as well.
00:41:33Welcome back to Wake Up Barshal.
00:41:35That whole time, for about 30 seconds, we saw Dave, I believe, talking crap to Brandon,
00:41:42but we cannot hear him.
00:41:42I wasn't talking crap.
00:41:43We were talking about Mississippi State game, which was just unbelievable, and Walker was
00:41:47at the game.
00:41:48But, you know, and I'm live streaming Michigan, and I'm in the new house, so I have one room
00:41:54that has multiple TVs, all the games on.
00:41:56And I bet Mississippi State's plus 7.5, and they're rolling.
00:42:00I mean, they're up three scores.
00:42:02Rolling.
00:42:03Absolutely game over.
00:42:04I move into the streaming room that just as Michigan, big TV, I just want to lock in
00:42:09on Michigan.
00:42:09My phone, I'm getting texts and tweets, oh, my God, you guys see Bran Walker.
00:42:13He's crying on TV.
00:42:15I go, this guy's crying tears of joy?
00:42:17He's that happy?
00:42:18I look at my phone, I go, what the hell happened?
00:42:22I thought it was a misprint.
00:42:24I was never crying, okay?
00:42:27I was dead inside, and my life was...
00:42:29Hey, there's Brandon right there.
00:42:31First of all...
00:42:31Unbelievable that he's in the picture.
00:42:34Every moment, the guy running the kickback runs...
00:42:38Walker almost got one of those personal fouls for being on the field.
00:42:42He was so close to him.
00:42:43And then the catch is in his face.
00:42:46And to credit to Walker, he knew it, he said it right, because he may have gotten his foot
00:42:50in right there.
00:42:51He knew the play was made.
00:42:53Just an absolutely unreal collapse right in Brandon Walker's face.
00:42:59I'm even seeing, like, that guy, Josh Pate, that called football guy, so I tweet for him,
00:43:03he's like, y'all, nobody told me they did it right in his face.
00:43:06I mean, this is unbelievable.
00:43:09The serendipity of the fact I started streaming, so I'm live for it.
00:43:14Every big play is right in his face.
00:43:18I can't tell you how everything had to break perfectly for this.
00:43:23Everything had to break perfectly.
00:43:25Up 17 minutes with nine minutes, or 17 points with nine minutes to go.
00:43:29We got a fourth down stop.
00:43:31We got a fourth down stop of 17 points.
00:43:33I know.
00:43:33Roughing the passer.
00:43:34And every single thing had to break perfectly.
00:43:37My one takeaway right here is I think referees are terrible.
00:43:40I don't know how a college official...
00:43:42I stood right there, and I looked down and said, wow, I think he caught that ball.
00:43:45I should be an official.
00:43:46I should be a ref.
00:43:47I am more professional than anybody that got...
00:43:50It sucked.
00:43:51I spent all yesterday in a dark closet praying about this, but I am here now, and I'm ready
00:43:55to go.
00:43:56I love the clip of you running down the sidelines, pulling up your shorts with the number one
00:44:03in the air.
00:44:04I mean, talk about...
00:44:05That was to go up 17 points with 10 minutes to go.
00:44:07That was the second time to go up 17 points.
00:44:09I don't know who's this kid over here, by the way.
00:44:11This kid was stunned.
00:44:12That's Jake Mangum.
00:44:13That's Major League Baseball player Jake Mangum.
00:44:15That guy...
00:44:15That guy...
00:44:16That guy, he was absolutely...
00:44:19The look he gave you right there at the end, stunned beyond belief.
00:44:23And then, you see who was running with me?
00:44:25Hardy, the country music star, was running with me.
00:44:28Like, we were all living high.
00:44:29If that was to go up 17 points with 10 minutes to go, we're so close.
00:44:34We're so close.
00:44:35Why do we keep...
00:44:36I...
00:44:36The three of the most heartbreaking losses of my entire life have happened in the last
00:44:40month.
00:44:41It's fallen down.
00:44:44Unbelievable.
00:44:45I...
00:44:45I...
00:44:46I...
00:44:46I forgot my belt that morning.
00:44:47I'm trying to run.
00:44:49This is college football.
00:44:50I'm just trying to get down there.
00:44:51You had Hardy run.
00:44:53Oh, it's fantastic.
00:44:55Hey, look.
00:44:56Brandon, I don't know, man.
00:44:56I tried to make you feel better Saturday.
00:44:59And...
00:44:59And you were very kind to me.
00:45:00You were being patronizing.
00:45:01That's what you were doing.
00:45:03Brandon, I swear to God.
00:45:03At least Dave is honest about who he is.
00:45:05I was not being patronizing.
00:45:06Dave Portnoy is honest about who he is.
00:45:08Dave Portnoy lives to stick his thumb in my eye.
00:45:10And that's fine.
00:45:12You...
00:45:12You just casually, passive-aggressively saying, oh, Brandon, you're okay.
00:45:16You're okay.
00:45:16I'm just going to slip my thumb in your eye.
00:45:18That's not true.
00:45:18And I'm just going to...
00:45:19It's not true.
00:45:20At least Dave's going to do it honestly.
00:45:22That groan you had, by the way, it couldn't have worked out perfectly.
00:45:25I didn't realize at first when I called you, you couldn't hear me.
00:45:28You didn't know who it was.
00:45:30And somebody says, hey, Dave's on the phone.
00:45:32You go, Dave who?
00:45:33They go, Dave Portnoy.
00:45:34They go, you made a little noise.
00:45:37It was unbelievable.
00:45:38I was worried about you.
00:45:39So I do resent you saying that I don't care.
00:45:42I'm honest with...
00:45:43Nobody should go through that type of pain that you had on that night.
00:45:48Stop immediately saying, oh, I did care about you.
00:45:51You got me on FaceTime.
00:45:53You got me on the stream.
00:45:54And you were like, hey, man, I care about you.
00:45:56I was just checking.
00:45:57I said three words and you covered your mouth and giggled like a little schoolgirl.
00:46:01Just like you're doing right now.
00:46:02Look at you, smirk on your face right now.
00:46:04There's two things can be true.
00:46:07You can care about somebody, but you can find the humor and just the absurdity of the moment, which is what I did.
00:46:14I couldn't believe it was going on.
00:46:15And we're a content company.
00:46:17It so happened I was also live streaming at the time of this Titanic collapse.
00:46:24And people are like, you got to get him on.
00:46:25We got to see what he's saying.
00:46:26I said to Austin, who was...
00:46:28I go, I don't want to let him be.
00:46:29I don't want to do this.
00:46:30But then it's like, we're running a content company.
00:46:33Fine.
00:46:33I'll do it.
00:46:34And I found it funny you couldn't hear me.
00:46:37So I was like, can't hear me.
00:46:39That's why he was laughing, Brandon.
00:46:41He found it funny he couldn't hear you.
00:46:43It's an honest misunderstanding.
00:46:44You have that clip?
00:46:47The thing is, right after the game, we were walking back to the car.
00:46:52It started raining.
00:46:53And I was just walking in the rain.
00:46:55You ever just be...
00:46:56You just ever out in the rain sad and just want it to rain more?
00:46:59Yeah.
00:47:00I was walking in the rain.
00:47:01Then we got stuck in traffic for two hours.
00:47:03So we're stuck in a car, in an SUV, in a parking lot that's not moving.
00:47:07And I'm just sitting there questioning all my life decisions.
00:47:10And then my phone rings and it's Dave Portnoy.
00:47:12And I just wanted to quit.
00:47:13There I am.
00:47:13Look at the rain.
00:47:14Yeah, and this was not the clip.
00:47:17I meant the one or the other one you couldn't hear.
00:47:18But I will say, it also hasn't mentioned the fact you're just wearing this Beat Texas pin.
00:47:24It adds a little bit of like panache to the whole thing that you just, with this cute little Beat Texas.
00:47:32And I imagine at Mississippi State, I don't know how many people you guys get.
00:47:36Like how big that stadium.
00:47:38Boy, it's at $14,000, $10,000.
00:47:40$62,000.
00:47:41$62,000.
00:47:42It's a lot.
00:47:42I assume it's not a big stadium.
00:47:44All collectively like just knowing.
00:47:47Like, oh, that happened again.
00:47:48Like probably people were devastated, but not surprised.
00:47:53Do we have a good break?
00:47:53All right, all right.
00:47:54We have the other break.
00:47:54We'll talk.
00:47:55We can talk about it more later.
00:47:56I didn't even get to my top ten.
00:47:57You said we've got to get to the top ten.
00:47:58All that.
00:47:59Hour two next.
00:47:59Coming up.
00:48:00Wake Up Barstool.
00:48:01You said we're going to my top ten.
00:48:02You've already done this exact segment this year.
00:48:06Twice.
00:48:08Hey, y'all.
00:48:09Welcome back.
00:48:09Hour two of Wake Up Barstool.
00:48:11Hope you're having a great morning.
00:48:12Grab a coffee.
00:48:12Come hang out with us.
00:48:14Dave Portnoy, Brandon Walker.
00:48:16We got Meekfeld, Liam Blutman here, and it's time to talk some college football.
00:48:20We hashed through some of Brandon's pain this week, and who knows?
00:48:24It might come back up.
00:48:25You never know with these two.
00:48:26Right now, though, let's look at the number one college football personality, Brandon Walker's
00:48:32brand new top ten.
00:48:34Yeah, so a little different this week.
00:48:36I was in a dark place, and I was struggling to fill out my top ten.
00:48:43Number one, obviously, Ohio State to Indiana.
00:48:46Listen, Indiana's very impressive Saturday against a resurgent UCLA team, a 3-0 UCLA team,
00:48:52beat them 56-6, Texas A&M with their most impressive win of the season, going to the
00:48:57Tiger Stadium and ending Brian Kelly, and looking incredible after the half.
00:49:02Alabama keeps plugging along, Oregon with a sleepy game, Georgia keeps plugging along,
00:49:07and then I kind of delved off into other territory where none of this matters.
00:49:12Okay, at seven, we have F this.
00:49:14At eight, we have we're all gonna.
00:49:17Yeah.
00:49:17And then at nine, we have die anyway.
00:49:19Nothing we're doing right now matters at all.
00:49:22And then BYU.
00:49:23Yeah, BYU's great, dude.
00:49:25I freaking love Bear Bachman.
00:49:26Yeah, they go on the road, they beat Iowa State, so they're right behind die anyway.
00:49:29I don't see Ole Miss on that list.
00:49:31Correct.
00:49:31There's only ten teams, dumbass.
00:49:33Well, I see seven teams.
00:49:35Listen, BYU.
00:49:36No, no, no.
00:49:37Dumbass is fine.
00:49:38Really?
00:49:39Dumbass is okay, Liam.
00:49:40It's not an SEC violation.
00:49:41A little quick on the draw there, bloody.
00:49:43A&M, a huge win, obviously.
00:49:46But BYU, I mean, I went on a rant about BYU on Big Noon.
00:49:52They're undefeated.
00:49:53This was a trap game that even I thought there was a good chance they lose at Iowa State after
00:49:58coming off the Holy War, which is a wildly, you know, emotional, hate-filled game.
00:50:05BYU falls behind by, I think, two scores.
00:50:0924 to 10.
00:50:1024 to 10.
00:50:11And absolutely trounces them.
00:50:14Put some respect on BYU and the Big 12.
00:50:17They should be far higher than 10 to me.
00:50:20They're a number four team in the country to me, undefeated.
00:50:24And again, I'll say it.
00:50:25I said it before.
00:50:26The Big 12 gets no respect.
00:50:28If you look at the Big 12's champion last year, it's Arizona State.
00:50:32Arizona State could have won the national title last year.
00:50:34They were right there against the big boys.
00:50:36So 8-0, BYU, game after game, beating good teams.
00:50:40Utah went out, beat Colorado by 100.
00:50:43BYU can play with anybody.
00:50:44Put BYU at four right now behind A&M for me because they deserve it.
00:50:50BYU to me is, as a program, the ultimate sum is greater than the whole of its parts program.
00:50:58Like, they're so consistent with Kalani Satake's built.
00:51:00Every single year, they outperform expectation from, like, the raw talent they have on their roster.
00:51:06I mean, they lose their quarterback, Jake Gretzloff, in the offseason.
00:51:09And all of a sudden, you hear Bear Bachmeier.
00:51:11Bear Bachmeier was 22-35, 3-07, two tuds.
00:51:15He's the first BYU quarterback to ever throw.
00:51:17Or no, sorry, excuse me.
00:51:18He's the first quarterback to surpass 300 yards against Iowa State in 22 games.
00:51:24Yeah, and listen, I continue.
00:51:25You can always do those, like, you see a true detective and you're stringing things across
00:51:31and trying to make sense of common opponents and things like that.
00:51:35But this Iowa State team, they beat Iowa in Ames.
00:51:38They beat a good Big Ten team.
00:51:40So, for BYU to go on the road and really trounce them, huge respect.
00:51:45They aren't getting the respect.
00:51:46They weren't even in the top ten last week with six teams.
00:51:49There were six teams in the top ten last week who had a loss.
00:51:53BYU undefeated, they go and prove it again in a spot where almost everybody,
00:51:59including kind of me, thought they were going to trip up.
00:52:01But that's why you play the games on the field.
00:52:04That's why they deserve to be up there.
00:52:06And as long as they keep winning, put them up there.
00:52:09Clear top four separated right now.
00:52:12Indiana's, for me, won because the win at Oregon,
00:52:15even though Oregon didn't look good again.
00:52:17Ohio State, A&M, BYU, there's your top four.
00:52:20And it's pretty clear to me.
00:52:22I'm glad that you said BYU proved it again because people will continue
00:52:28to doubt that program.
00:52:30And we're going two straight years now of BYU consistently winning the trap game,
00:52:36the games with the tricky spread that you sniff out and say,
00:52:39well, this is where they'll fall.
00:52:41This is where they'll falter because the odds makers know something.
00:52:44And every single time BYU comes up with something,
00:52:47they make the right play when they need it every single time.
00:52:50They're dependable, they're gritty, they're physical.
00:52:53They scheme up really well offensively.
00:52:55They make the most out of their playmakers.
00:52:57And they did something bold in the offseason.
00:52:59They went to the true freshman quarterback.
00:53:01And they said, Barrett Bachmeier impressed him so much in camp,
00:53:04there was no way that they could possibly bench him and redshirt him.
00:53:07Barrett Bachmeier made his mark from the jump.
00:53:09That's a late transfer they get from Stanford.
00:53:11And, like, it's so impressive what Satake's been able to do at BYU.
00:53:18And I hate that it's always just, well, they're BYU.
00:53:23They're not that good.
00:53:25It's the entire conference.
00:53:27It's the entire conference, yeah.
00:53:28Yeah, it's the entire conference.
00:53:30And, again, I hate a broken record.
00:53:32But Arizona State, who got no respect, proved they could play with anybody last year.
00:53:40They were literally a fourth down play away from beating Texas and advancing.
00:53:45So this BYU team is being slept on, and the conference gets slept on.
00:53:49And it's this era of parity.
00:53:51Iowa State, a lot of teams go in and lose to Iowa State last Saturday.
00:53:56BYU did not.
00:53:57And you mentioned Indiana.
00:54:00Indiana's the number one team is something that I'd be completely fine with.
00:54:03I don't really care to hash it out.
00:54:04Like, it'll solve itself over time.
00:54:06But what I do want to highlight is, to me,
00:54:08how quickly Indiana has reached this level of, like, self-assuredness
00:54:14where their ability to consistently beat the hell out of the teams
00:54:20that they are supposed to be better than.
00:54:22Like, if you're wondering, okay, how do we justify Signetti's contract?
00:54:24How do we feel confident about him living up to that number going forward?
00:54:28That has to be one of the core pillars of success.
00:54:31When Indiana's supposed to be better than you, they leave no doubt.
00:54:35And really, the only thing that was missing was winning the big games,
00:54:37and now they beat Oregon.
00:54:38Well, that comes from the top.
00:54:40The self-assuredness, the confidence, it comes from Signetti.
00:54:42Now, Signetti walked into this job.
00:54:44The first thing he said was, I win, Google me.
00:54:46The first thing he did was go on the court at Indiana basketball
00:54:48and said, F Michigan, F Ohio State.
00:54:51And when it comes time to back that up,
00:54:53and when it comes time for this team to back it up,
00:54:55they're following the lead of their coach.
00:54:56Now, he is very aggressive.
00:54:57He's very in-your-face.
00:54:58But if you're going to turn around Indiana
00:55:00and take a bottom dweller to the top, that's how you got to do it.
00:55:03That's exactly what he did.
00:55:04It reminds me of these old – this reminds me of an old, like,
00:55:07Kate McNown, UCLA winning by 50.
00:55:10Was it K'Jana Cotter and Kerry Collins at Penn State?
00:55:13Like, when they were better, they won by 50.
00:55:16You don't have many of those teams, but nobody is putting up consistent whoopings right now
00:55:23like Indiana.
00:55:24Are they going to win the national title?
00:55:27Who knows?
00:55:27But they can clearly play with anybody, and they're rightfully number two, number one.
00:55:32I agree with you, T-Bob.
00:55:33It'll figure itself out.
00:55:34But, yeah, they're the real deal, no doubt.
00:55:36I got invited to Mendoza's pig roast, by the way.
00:55:40I thought that was nice.
00:55:40He was having a pig roast at Fernando at his house after the game that I got invited to.
00:55:45So thank you, Fernando.
00:55:46Oh, what kind of – where's Fernando's family from?
00:55:50What kind of pig roast are we talking – down in Cajun country, you do boucheries.
00:55:53Okay, so like a Cajun pig roast.
00:55:55You do what?
00:55:56Boucheries.
00:55:56It's a big – it's a pig roast.
00:55:58He's from Florida, isn't he?
00:55:59Miami.
00:56:00Miami.
00:56:00There you go.
00:56:01So it's a likelihood a Cuban pig.
00:56:02Oh, that sounds great.
00:56:03I actually asked, like, what happens if they lose?
00:56:05They say the pig will be eaten no matter what.
00:56:08It's a lot of work, dude.
00:56:09And then you ever had fresh pig brain straight out the skull?
00:56:13Nope, nope, can't say I haven't – nope.
00:56:15It's got, like, a buttery type of texture.
00:56:19No.
00:56:19And it's actually quite good, dude, when it's got –
00:56:21It's too early on a Monday morning for this.
00:56:23What about, like, some blood sausage?
00:56:25I've had that.
00:56:25That's fine.
00:56:25Or, like, some blood pudding?
00:56:28I don't know, T-Bob.
00:56:29Okay, well, it's different how you kill the ant.
00:56:31Whatever, it doesn't matter.
00:56:33Ole Miss, one of the other big winners of the weekend.
00:56:37Ole Miss, just as much as I hate it, what a –
00:56:41Speaking of, like, doing something they'd never done before,
00:56:44Lane Kiffin's first ever road ranked win
00:56:46and doing it in a game in which the line was so incredibly stinky
00:56:51that it was pushing everybody to the Oklahoma side of the equation.
00:56:56So Ole Miss proving the odds maker's wrong.
00:56:59Yeah, and I don't know why –
00:57:01Yeah, Oklahoma may not be great.
00:57:02Yeah, Oklahoma was the biggest fraud in this country.
00:57:04But I don't know why I fell for Oklahoma last week
00:57:06because in this SEC right now, it is so narrow at the top.
00:57:11It is so narrow between the Georgians and the Alabamas.
00:57:14Everybody's in close games every single week,
00:57:15and it's about finishing games.
00:57:17And Lane Kiffin is maybe the best coach in the entire conference right now.
00:57:21So when you're going on the road, when you're in these close games,
00:57:24give me the team with the better coach,
00:57:26and that's almost always going to be Ole Miss until Lane Kiffin leaves.
00:57:29And I need him to leave now.
00:57:31I need him to leave tomorrow.
00:57:32So we have the number one quarterback evaluator in the country on the show, right, Dave?
00:57:37That's you?
00:57:39Correct, yes.
00:57:39Yes, okay.
00:57:41Am I crazy to say that I think that Trinidad Chambliss
00:57:45is not the talent that Jackson Dart is
00:57:48but is a better college quarterback than Jackson Dart was?
00:57:51So another thing that I am very honest about,
00:57:55I haven't watched him play enough to make that assessment.
00:57:58So I don't want to just throw it out there.
00:58:01Obviously, Ole Miss has it rolling.
00:58:02But again, as somebody who's said this many times
00:58:05and has been laughed at and mocked for many weeks,
00:58:09watch out for Vanderbilt.
00:58:11And they're going on the road to Texas,
00:58:12and everyone's going to pick Texas.
00:58:14I think the opening line, I thought Texas minus three and a half.
00:58:18Watch out for this Vanderbilt team.
00:58:19They're not playing this season to get one big win.
00:58:24They could have easily lost to Missouri.
00:58:25They figured out a way to get it done.
00:58:27They always seem to figure out, with the exception of that Bama,
00:58:30this Vanderbilt team, I've been saying it.
00:58:33People, oh, Vandy, Vandy, they're going to fall apart.
00:58:35They've got to run the gauntlet.
00:58:37I have been telling you about Vandy the whole season,
00:58:39and they're going to go in, and they're going to beat Texas next week,
00:58:42and they're now going to be eight and one.
00:58:44Watch out for this Vandy team.
00:58:46They're well coached.
00:58:47Their defense was flying around the other day,
00:58:50and Pavia will make plays when they have to.
00:58:52Walker, why?
00:58:53Because you know I'm right.
00:58:54Brandon, one quick thought on Vandy before we go to break.
00:58:56Texas isn't very good.
00:58:58No.
00:58:58Texas isn't very good.
00:58:59I think Vanderbilt will beat Texas.
00:59:01I mean, Texas is there for the taking.
00:59:02The defense is overrated.
00:59:03They're not very good offensively.
00:59:05Any team worth their salt ought to beat Texas.
00:59:07Vanderbilt's probably going to beat Texas, and I don't know.
00:59:10Texas, though, they're pretty good at closing, you know,
00:59:12and they've got to have a play.
00:59:12Imagine sitting here if we had this show three years ago.
00:59:16I'm sitting here with T-Bob from LSU, and I'm talking about a little cowbell,
00:59:20and I'm sitting here, and I go, boys,
00:59:23Vanderbilt's going to be a better program than both of you programs.
00:59:26You guys would have laughed me out of it, but it's true.
00:59:28You can go ahead and put them ahead of your Michigan Wolverines.
00:59:31Why?
00:59:32Okay, hold on.
00:59:33No, no, no, no.
00:59:35If they're a better program than LSU,
00:59:37they're definitely a better program than Michigan right now.
00:59:38We don't have time for this.
00:59:39We won the national championship two years ago.
00:59:43Yeah, asterisk.
00:59:45Last night, Sunday Night Football, Jordan Love, Donovan,
00:59:48and it's kind of funny.
00:59:48I feel like we fell off the Packers, and now you look up,
00:59:51they're 5-1-1.
00:59:53Like, are they actually the class of the NFC?
00:59:56I think they're a really good team.
00:59:57You know, we talked about Aaron Rodgers winning his Super Bowl with Green Bay
01:00:01when he was 27.
01:00:03Brett Favre won it when he was 27.
01:00:06And guess what?
01:00:06Jordan Love's going to be 27 in a couple weeks.
01:00:09He's experienced.
01:00:11He's been in the same system for a while.
01:00:13They can run the ball with Jacobs,
01:00:14and they have a closer in Micah Parsons and Rashawn Gary.
01:00:18I think they're as good as anybody in the NFC.
01:00:21I think it's going to be them and Philly and Tampa.
01:00:24No Detroit.
01:00:24So, what, they got one loss.
01:00:28Who did the Packers lose?
01:00:30They lost to the Browns.
01:00:31Oh, they lost to the Cleveland Browns.
01:00:32It's funny because in between the break,
01:00:36Coach Gruden was trying to discredit the Patriots for beating the Browns.
01:00:40They beat the Browns.
01:00:41Oh, but the Browns did beat the Packers.
01:00:44See, in this league, and nobody knows it better than me.
01:00:46Although, Coach, no, it's hard to get Ws.
01:00:49I don't care who you're playing.
01:00:50Everyone's paid.
01:00:51So, when you see a team like the New England Patriots go out
01:00:54and absolutely dismantle one of the better defenses in the league,
01:00:58let the, what's his name, got 5 million sacks.
01:01:02I don't care.
01:01:03Who cares?
01:01:04We put up 30 points, and this Drake May,
01:01:06I'm going to read to you right now.
01:01:08I put this out.
01:01:09Here's my NFL top 10 QB ratings this year.
01:01:13This is not a lifetime achievement award, okay?
01:01:16This is, this year, who would I want under center?
01:01:20I don't care.
01:01:20You're down four, two minutes in the game.
01:01:23Number one, Drake May.
01:01:25Number two, Josh Allen.
01:01:26Number three, Patrick Mahomes.
01:01:28Four, Baker Mayfield.
01:01:30Five, Jared Goff.
01:01:31Six, Dak Prescott.
01:01:32Seven, Daniel Jones.
01:01:34Eight, Matt Stafford.
01:01:35Nine, Sam Darnold.
01:01:37Ten, I'm taking on putting love on.
01:01:39I made the list before the end.
01:01:41But this Drake May, this Drake May, I tell you,
01:01:46I have that same feeling when you,
01:01:49I watched Brady early in his career.
01:01:51I know I'm watching greatness.
01:01:53I know I'm watching a Hall of Famer.
01:01:55I know I'm watching a minimum four Super Bowl winning.
01:02:00He is that good.
01:02:02The only thing, knock on wood,
01:02:04he hasn't learned how to slide that great yet.
01:02:07But, man, he runs away from defenders.
01:02:10He runs when he has to.
01:02:12He throws the ball 70 yards like this.
01:02:16Like he's just putting a, oh, he's got a shopping cart.
01:02:19He's got a loaf of wheat bread.
01:02:23He's just throwing it an inch into his cart,
01:02:25except the thing goes, zoom, 70 yards.
01:02:28And he's on the nose, on the button with every throw.
01:02:34If you're redrafting this class with Jaden Daniels,
01:02:37Caleb Williams, Bo Nix,
01:02:39there is no doubt who is going number one.
01:02:43It's Drake May.
01:02:44The Patriots hit an absolute home run.
01:02:47And they are arguably.
01:02:49There is nothing that I have said that is an exaggeration.
01:02:57He is that good.
01:02:58I am studded.
01:02:59I'm not even enjoying the game.
01:03:00He's still going.
01:03:00I have a clipboard.
01:03:01How about a question?
01:03:04Can anybody else have a, how about a question for you?
01:03:07How come the North Carolina Tar Heels
01:03:09don't even talk about Drake May
01:03:11like he went to the freaking school?
01:03:13Where are you on that, Dave?
01:03:14And how do you have a quarterback list after eight games?
01:03:18I mean, the weather hasn't even gotten bad yet.
01:03:20Pretty soon it's going to be sleeting and snowing
01:03:23and really lousy.
01:03:24That's why you people live up there.
01:03:26Let's see how he plays in the really bad weather.
01:03:29Yeah, we'll see.
01:03:30We'll see.
01:03:31Listen, Tom Brady was, Tom Brady was a Cali kid.
01:03:34He got used to it.
01:03:36When you beat Cleveland after they've had a fire sale
01:03:38on their team, you beat the Titans, the Saints,
01:03:41the Panthers, and the Dolphins, and you lose to the Raiders.
01:03:45I'm not ready to win the Hall of Fame yet.
01:03:47We're leaving out at Buffalo, and Raiders was week one,
01:03:50and we fumbled 10 times going in against Spencer.
01:03:53I'm telling you, you can doubt this kid all year.
01:03:55This kid is spectacular.
01:03:57I've never seen him.
01:03:58I'm not doubting.
01:03:58Do we have the new shirts?
01:03:59Can we put the new shirts up?
01:04:01Do we have the shirts I put on sale yesterday?
01:04:03I'm gay for May.
01:04:04Coach, coach.
01:04:05Gay for May, Dave Portnoy.
01:04:08Coach, do you agree with Dave?
01:04:10Go buy him on the store right now.
01:04:11I'm gay for May.
01:04:12Nobody doubts Drake May.
01:04:14You have him on a list over Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen.
01:04:18We went into Buffalo, and we beat Josh Allen, didn't we?
01:04:22And he outplayed him.
01:04:23I said it's not a lifetime achievement award.
01:04:26Coach, do you agree with Dave's assessment?
01:04:28There we go.
01:04:29On sale now.
01:04:30I disagree with Portnoy.
01:04:32Of course I agree with everything he says.
01:04:34What a great freaking viewpoint.
01:04:38Coach, it's a four Super Bowl quarterback.
01:04:40He just told you.
01:04:41Through eight games.
01:04:42I mean, it's four Super Bowls.
01:04:43Well, I've lived through it.
01:04:45I know what it looks like.
01:04:46I know what it feels like.
01:04:48He does look like Tom Brady right now with wheels, and that's a scary combination.
01:04:53He does.
01:04:54He does look really good.
01:04:55He does look really good.
01:04:56He's a good quarterback.
01:04:57Can we wait to put him over Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes?
01:05:00Can we wait?
01:05:00All right, Walker.
01:05:01Walker, if you're redrafting that class with Jaden, with Drake, with Caleb, with Bo Nix,
01:05:08who are you taking first if you're starting a team?
01:05:09I mean, I still think Jaden Daniels is off to a hell of a start in his career.
01:05:13It's one of those two.
01:05:14He goes over Caleb Williams, but, like, Bo Nix is pretty damn good, too.
01:05:18Bo Nix is pretty damn good, too.
01:05:19Broncos beat up on the Cowboys yesterday.
01:05:21Broncos beat up on the Cowboys.
01:05:21There's a bunch of good quarterbacks in that class.
01:05:23Who are you drafting?
01:05:25It's not a slam dunk.
01:05:26I'm taking Drake, man, number one.
01:05:27Jaden Daniels is still very good.
01:05:29Who are you?
01:05:31You can't take multiple.
01:05:32I'm asking you, who are you taking?
01:05:35Jaden Daniels.
01:05:36Bullshit.
01:05:39No, it didn't get through.
01:05:40I think he got edited.
01:05:41He didn't finish it.
01:05:42He didn't finish it.
01:05:43I didn't finish it.
01:05:44I said bull.
01:05:44He didn't complete the catch.
01:05:46He said bull.
01:05:46That is a total lie.
01:05:48Coach, who are you taking?
01:05:49Coach, who are you drafting?
01:05:50I'm taking Drake May.
01:05:52Damn it, Coach.
01:05:53I thought we were on the same team.
01:05:55I'm telling you, this guy is spectacular.
01:05:58I can't wait.
01:05:59I don't know whether to set my alarm for Saturdays or Sundays now.
01:06:03Do I wait for Michigan to go whoop up on Purdue,
01:06:06or do I wait for the Patriot game?
01:06:08It's a great time in my football life again.
01:06:10I love it.
01:06:12Now, wait a minute.
01:06:13Michigan, you spent multiple Saturdays this year in a dark car
01:06:17with a selfie video going, I hate to tell you guys,
01:06:20but we're just not very good right now.
01:06:21He hates your own war.
01:06:23He hates your own war.
01:06:24Don't act like you're waking up on Saturdays just because you got
01:06:26to the bad part of the Big Ten schedule.
01:06:29Yeah, so I will say we're in the bad part of the Big Ten schedule,
01:06:33so you got to get your licking when the food is good until we play Ohio.
01:06:38And who knows?
01:06:39You got to keep improving.
01:06:40The kid's a young quarterback.
01:06:41I didn't like how he looked against Michigan State,
01:06:43but a win is a win in a rivalry game.
01:06:46You know, when I was – you know, I've been a fan my whole life.
01:06:50We've always been very proud of players that came from our school.
01:06:53Anybody that comes from Dayton, we celebrate them.
01:06:56I mean, I don't understand why the North Carolina Tar Heels
01:06:59don't even give Drake May any publicity.
01:07:02I want to hear that from you, Dave.
01:07:04What's up with that?
01:07:05Well, there's obviously some animosity between Belichick
01:07:08and the Patriots organization.
01:07:09No doubt about that.
01:07:10I will, I believe, be sitting in Tampa.
01:07:13I'm going to go to the Tampa Patriots game as an invite to Mr. Crafts,
01:07:17so I think I'll be there to watch Drake May light the world on fire there.
01:07:20But I will say watch out for North Carolina.
01:07:23They have gotten better by leaps and bounds the last two weeks.
01:07:28They're very close to my pick of the week this week.
01:07:31I think they're – who are they playing as – I forget who they're playing.
01:07:33I think they're going to win the game.
01:07:35Syracuse, at Syracuse.
01:07:37So watch out.
01:07:38I cannot wait for that one.
01:07:39I cannot wait for that one.
01:07:42Coach, you're near the man.
01:07:43Let's go.
01:07:45Okay.
01:07:46Coach, thank you so much for another shred line.
01:07:48Let's go.
01:07:49Let's go.
01:07:50When we get back, more NFL, more college.
01:07:56Don't go anywhere.
01:07:57More wake-up bars, so here on FS1.
01:08:05Here it is, guys.
01:08:07It's that time.
01:08:08Davey, DayTrader Global.
01:08:09It is time for stock up or stock down.
01:08:11Who are you buying?
01:08:11Who are you selling this week?
01:08:12Dave, take it away.
01:08:14Yeah, so first of all, we do this at 9.30 a.m.
01:08:16That's when the market opens.
01:08:18So I'm usually doing the DayTrader.
01:08:19We'll turn it to sports.
01:08:21I got a couple.
01:08:22Stock's up.
01:08:22Alex McPherson, Auburn field goal kicker.
01:08:25I ripped him apart last week, right, because he missed a million field goals.
01:08:30Everyone said he was missing a colon, had all these health issues.
01:08:33I think he was six for six for Auburn.
01:08:35So credit to me and him.
01:08:38He bounces back.
01:08:39I get credit for motivating him.
01:08:41BYU, clearly up.
01:08:43Everyone doubted him.
01:08:44Trap game.
01:08:44We talked about it.
01:08:45They win number four team in the country.
01:08:48Brandon Walker, for me, stock up.
01:08:50Yes, his team lost, but he was the center of the college football universe, his misery.
01:08:55So, yes, even though it's bad for him in his life, it's good for his brand.
01:09:01When people think funny losers, I think somebody called you Stingray 2.0, which I thought was a little bit nasty.
01:09:10But they said every time he shows up, they lose in heartbreaking fashion.
01:09:15A magical walker, Stingray 2.0.
01:09:18I laughed out loud when I saw that.
01:09:20So those are my stocks up.
01:09:22Stock's down.
01:09:23Brian Kelly fired.
01:09:24AD should be fired.
01:09:26Steelers down.
01:09:27Bengals down.
01:09:29Cowboys down.
01:09:30Bears fans, you missed on your quarterback.
01:09:32They're down.
01:09:33That's who won and lost the week for me.
01:09:35Stingray 2.0.
01:09:36Brutal.
01:09:36All right, my stock up.
01:09:40First of all, I don't even want to think you got in trouble.
01:09:44My first stock up is going to be to Live Event Lisa.
01:09:47There's Bradley Cooper, her dog.
01:09:48Live Event Lisa, I'm sorry.
01:09:49I just threw your set, but I got mad at him.
01:09:51I don't think you can even see it on the TV.
01:09:54There's pumpkins everywhere.
01:09:55There's pumpkins everywhere.
01:09:56And if Dave gets to talk again, all right, sure, that happened.
01:09:59Fine, whatever.
01:10:00Doesn't matter.
01:10:01Doesn't matter.
01:10:01But my stock up, Starkville, Mississippi.
01:10:05Stingray 2.0 rattled him to the core.
01:10:09No, no, now there's candy everywhere.
01:10:12Oh, yeah, like that's the worst thing in the world between me and you.
01:10:14I love Almond Joy.
01:10:15All right, anyway, stock up.
01:10:17Starkville, Mississippi was fantastic this weekend.
01:10:19We had the perfect weather, the perfect, 62,000 people.
01:10:22The cowbells were going strong.
01:10:24And for 58 minutes, my God, did we all have a good time.
01:10:27One of the most underrated gyms in all the country.
01:10:29It was a beautiful place.
01:10:30I went to two brothers.
01:10:32I went to Anthony's.
01:10:32I had a Creole ribeye.
01:10:33My God, Starkville, Mississippi, you've got to get down there.
01:10:37It's a fantastic place.
01:10:38My stock down?
01:10:40The Oklahoma Sooners.
01:10:41They're not very good.
01:10:42Their defense was getting by on a lie.
01:10:45They had not played a good offense yet.
01:10:47Ole Miss comes in there and just runs up and down the field against them.
01:10:50Oklahoma under Brent Venables just has never really gotten to where they need to get to.
01:10:55They're going to finish 8-4 this year.
01:10:56And is Oklahoma a program that's going to settle for 8-4?
01:10:59Everybody's firing their coach.
01:11:00LSU's going to go 8-4.
01:11:01They're firing their coach.
01:11:02Penn State's going to go 8-4 or 7-5, whatever they're going to go.
01:11:05They're firing their coach.
01:11:06Oklahoma's settling for Brent Venables.
01:11:07They're going to lose at Tennessee.
01:11:08They're going to lose at Alabama.
01:11:10This is a proud team that has walked in the SEC and just said they are content with being
01:11:15an also-ran.
01:11:16And that is crazy to me.
01:11:17Stock down Oklahoma.
01:11:18All right.
01:11:19It is my turn to give you some investment.
01:11:21There's crap everywhere in here, T-Bob.
01:11:23Yeah.
01:11:23Yeah.
01:11:24You have completely ruined the studio.
01:11:27But I did get an Almond Joy, my favorite candy.
01:11:30It's my turn.
01:11:31Stock down Almond Joy, the worst candy.
01:11:33Whose favorite candy is Almond Joy?
01:11:35It's the best candy, guys.
01:11:36Stock way down.
01:11:37We used to trade candy at the end.
01:11:40I would trade 13 mini Almond Joys for one two-bar Kit Kat.
01:11:45So what does that make me?
01:11:46The richest man in the world.
01:11:48I guess.
01:11:49If you like the worst candy, good for you.
01:11:50Yeah, exactly.
01:11:52Nobody wants their Almond Joys.
01:11:53It's legitimately my favorite.
01:11:55I bathe in them around Halloween time.
01:11:57I get all the runoff.
01:11:59Look, in the, what do they say?
01:12:01One man's trash is another man's treasure.
01:12:03You can call me the garbage king.
01:12:05So I'm going to give you all some good investment advice here, right?
01:12:08Because ideally, we're always looking to buy low.
01:12:11We're looking to sell high.
01:12:12You need to buy Jeff Levy's stock right now.
01:12:16I'm disappointed.
01:12:17Patronizing the son of a...
01:12:18You can't say I'm patronizing every time I say something positive.
01:12:22I know he screwed up some late-game situations.
01:12:24He's going to learn.
01:12:24It's his first time I had a coach.
01:12:26He's a damn good coach.
01:12:27Mississippi State is moving in the right direction.
01:12:30I firmly believe that, okay?
01:12:32The pain of today are the foundations upon which the joys of tomorrow will be built.
01:12:38Saturday, Brandon, I gave you this whole soliloquy about how you should feel good,
01:12:41and then you told me to S your D.
01:12:43Well, sir, I'm not going to do that, okay?
01:12:46What I am going to do is continue to tell you,
01:12:49Jeff Levy's a good coach.
01:12:50Bulldog fans should be happy.
01:12:51He's stock up.
01:12:52Such a good coach.
01:12:52Stock up.
01:12:53Stock up.
01:12:53Stock up, man.
01:12:54We're this close.
01:12:54Stock up.
01:12:55Yeah, you're back in games.
01:12:56You're back in games.
01:12:57It wasn't too long ago that you guys weren't even competing.
01:12:59Now you're getting your heart ripped out.
01:13:01I don't know what's better or worse, but at least you're in games.
01:13:04It's better.
01:13:04This is how you build a winning culture.
01:13:06It's better.
01:13:06I know it's technically better, but this is way worse.
01:13:09This hurts so much.
01:13:10It hurts worse, but the pain, it will equal joy eventually.
01:13:14Anyway, stock up.
01:13:16LSU.
01:13:16Getting out of the Brian Kelly contract.
01:13:18And it may be way stock up, guys, because you've ended a relationship that is clearly,
01:13:22in hindsight, never should have really happened in the first place.
01:13:26But beyond that, I'm going to be very interested to see what this buyout number comes out to.
01:13:31Okay?
01:13:32I have a few different sources.
01:13:33As long as you have the same AD picking the same guy, I don't know how you're stocking me up.
01:13:36No, no, no, no, not the new contract name.
01:13:39So Brian Kelly's buyout is $53 million.
01:13:42There's rumors swirling that the accepted number.
01:13:45Yeah, all right.
01:13:45That's fine.
01:13:46It's money.
01:13:46But if you have the same AD who hired Brian Kelly, who hired Jimbo Fisher, and he's hiring
01:13:52the next guy, I don't know how you can say the stocks.
01:13:54That looks like something that I'd still be selling because there's a lot of room to fall
01:13:58still if you still have the same ID.
01:14:00Okay, I'm saying stock up because I do not think Brian Kelly is going to get a $50 million buyout.
01:14:06I think it's going to be somewhere in the $21 to $25 range.
01:14:09I could end up being wrong, but that's a lot of money saved.
01:14:11That's a lot of money saved, Dave.
01:14:13That's a lot of money saved.
01:14:14Therefore, the stock goes up because you're not spending as much.
01:14:17Stock down.
01:14:19Now, this is a bold one, guys.
01:14:21And a lot of y'all aren't going to agree with me, and that's fine.
01:14:23But again, I see the market before it moves.
01:14:25I'm selling my Ohio State stock.
01:14:28There's never been a better time to sell Ohio State than right now.
01:14:31This is an uber-talented team with a young quarterback that ultimately
01:14:35will enter the most important portions of the season completely untested.
01:14:40They will have never been punched in the mouth.
01:14:43They will have never tasted blood.
01:14:44They don't know what it's like to get dazed.
01:14:46Eventually, whether it's Indiana and the Big Ten, Indiana and the playoff,
01:14:51maybe Michigan, eventually a haymaker's coming.
01:14:53Somebody's going to land one on the chin, and I think it might send this Ohio State
01:14:57team reeling.
01:14:58So I get it.
01:14:59All y'all are going to tell me they're just going to cruise to another championship,
01:15:02but I'm not so sure.
01:15:04They're untested.
01:15:05I'm selling Ohio State.
01:15:07But that rant, you invalidate it and maybe Michigan.
01:15:10If you don't think Michigan is going to land a punch that makes Ohio State wonder where
01:15:16they are in Ryan Day's beard to go back to its original color, you don't know what you're
01:15:20talking about.
01:15:20I'm not saying it's a guaranteed we beat them, but of course Michigan is going to test
01:15:25Ohio State.
01:15:26Ohio State hasn't beat Michigan, I think, in 2,600 days.
01:15:31Think about that.
01:15:32We're going to see.
01:15:32But either way, I'm selling Ohio State.
01:15:34I don't like the fact that they're going to enter into this postseason after a cakewalk.
01:15:39All right, nerds, what do we got here?
01:15:41Meek, you go first.
01:15:43My stock up, Addison Barger, the owner of the only pinch-hit Grand Slam in World Series
01:15:47history.
01:15:48Baseball's been going on for over 100 years.
01:15:50That was the first pinch-hit Grand Slam.
01:15:52And I'm also taking stock on the Ravens.
01:15:53They're 2-5.
01:15:54I think they end up getting into the playoffs with Lamar Jackson having the least amount
01:15:58of pressure ever in his career.
01:16:00They're not a bad fire to take for a Super Bowl.
01:16:01And my stock down is Pittsburgh Steelers.
01:16:04Last night, you're going to see a down.
01:16:06Last night was the start of the spiral of the Steelers.
01:16:09They're going to be a 9-8 team.
01:16:10Typical Mike Tomlin.
01:16:11Mediocre Mike.
01:16:12Sorry, Jersey Jerry.
01:16:14Also want to add another stock down I just thought of.
01:16:16Shelly Ohtani, I'm selling my stock on him.
01:16:18I think game four of the World Series will be the worst start of his career and the biggest
01:16:20stage.
01:16:21Oh, wow.
01:16:22Okay.
01:16:22By the way, just so you know, Meek, still somehow, because that division is so horrific,
01:16:26the Ravens are in.
01:16:27They are still, I believe, I checked yesterday, 20-1 to win the Super Bowl.
01:16:33The Patriots are 28-1.
01:16:34Figure that one out.
01:16:36Yeah, the Ravens are 19-1, and they're also like the favorites right now to win the division.
01:16:40Yeah.
01:16:41Bloody, what do you got?
01:16:43Can I buy the Ohio State stock you're selling?
01:16:45Yes, you can.
01:16:46Okay, I'll purchase all of that.
01:16:48Also, a stock up to whoever made these graphics.
01:16:51Yeah.
01:16:51I think that those are really cool and clean.
01:16:54The Salese Sharks have two wins.
01:16:57They have six points.
01:16:58They are miserable.
01:17:00Brian Walker's sighing like he didn't go spend his Sunday night at a hockey game.
01:17:04That's crazy.
01:17:0519-year-old, soon-to-be superstar, Macklin Celebrini, buy all the stock you have.
01:17:10The NHL's red hot right now, fun to watch, and there's an influx of young talent.
01:17:16Macklin Celebrini became the third teenager to have 15 or more points through the first nine
01:17:21games of the season.
01:17:22One of those that he joins is Wayne Gretzky.
01:17:24In the last four games, Macklin has five goals, five assists.
01:17:27He's been involved in two overtime winners.
01:17:29He's on a sick and depleted Sharks team.
01:17:33He is backpacking them to be into games.
01:17:36He is so much fun to watch, always smiling, a great goof, a great sniper, playmaker, sick
01:17:42release, sick handling.
01:17:44Watch Macklin.
01:17:45Watch Macklin Celebrini.
01:17:48You will have fun.
01:17:49There we go.
01:17:50Quick question, Blutman.
01:17:51Now, what stock exchange do you have to buy that Macklin Celebrini, like the Chinese penny
01:17:55stock or something?
01:17:57Because that ain't on NASDAQ.
01:17:58No, it's a side market.
01:18:00I didn't know your guys' stocks were on NASDAQ.
01:18:03I'll do better for you.
01:18:04Yeah, no, we're on the main markets, the big boards.
01:18:06I got no idea what way to buy this one.
01:18:09Ludd's doing Forex.
01:18:10He's doing Forex and crypto schemes.
01:18:13Calabrini's a brand new coin.
01:18:15You're going to want to get in now.
01:18:16Trust me, guys.
01:18:17It's not a rug pull.
01:18:18It's not a rug.
01:18:19I promise.
01:18:20Macklin Celebrini's incredible.
01:18:22Brandon Walker should know that.
01:18:23He's probably seen him play.
01:18:24He's also a big barstool guy.
01:18:26Loves the gums.
01:18:26Shout out.
01:18:27Okay, we got to go to break.
01:18:28More NFL talk on the other side.
01:18:30More here on FS1.
01:18:31Wake up, Barstool.
01:18:32Walker's been forced to hockey.
01:18:33That's like the same reason Mr. Rice is.
01:18:36We're going to break, man.
01:18:37The Blackhawks are good, bro.
01:18:38Four and three.
01:18:39Rough game.
01:18:39Run to the Barstool.
01:18:40What are we going to do, dude?
01:18:41You know?
01:18:45What's up, guys?
01:18:46Welcome back to FS1.
01:18:47All right, bloody Meek.
01:18:49What did we miss, boys?
01:18:50What did we miss over the weekend?
01:18:52We missed talking about Yoshinobu Yamamoto being the first pitcher since Curt Schilling in 2001
01:18:56to throw back-to-back complete games in the postseason.
01:18:58Damn.
01:18:59He's a Dodgers' secret weapon.
01:19:00Everyone knows they don't have a bullpen.
01:19:02He just put the team on his back.
01:19:03104 pitch, complete game.
01:19:05God tip your cap to him.
01:19:07Simple as that.
01:19:07Yeah, back-to-back start.
01:19:09It's been absolutely dominant.
01:19:10Good series, though.
01:19:111-1.
01:19:12Did you get your phone fixed?
01:19:13Yeah.
01:19:14Good.
01:19:14Why are you mad about that?
01:19:16No, no.
01:19:16That's Brandon's sincere tone.
01:19:18I have some questions.
01:19:18I got my phone fixed.
01:19:20Thank you, Brandon.
01:19:20No, that wasn't a mean, Brandon.
01:19:21That was a nice Brandon.
01:19:23He was looking out for you.
01:19:25Bloody, what did we miss?
01:19:26Yeah, Miami Hurricanes wore the worst uniforms in college football history.
01:19:29We missed that.
01:19:30I don't think I saw these.
01:19:32Well, you literally did not see them.
01:19:35Yeah, no.
01:19:36A disgrace to America.
01:19:38Like I said, you literally did not see them.
01:19:40Oh, God.
01:19:41They're just the feel.
01:19:42That's a green screen.
01:19:43Yeah, yeah, exactly.
01:19:45That's the worst uniform that's ever been worn.
01:19:47The Florida alligator uniform is still the worst of all time.
01:19:50Just an awful color combination.
01:19:52No, but you have to...
01:19:53What did we miss?
01:19:54Can I do a quick what did we miss?
01:19:55Yeah.
01:19:55What did we miss for anybody?
01:19:56Do not watch House of Dynamite on Netflix.
01:19:58It has no ending.
01:20:00It's two hours waste of your time.
01:20:02They don't end the movie.
01:20:03I'm begging you if you thought about...
01:20:05If you like political thrillers, which I do, and like nuclear bomb type movies, which I do,
01:20:10I got sucked in.
01:20:11No ending.
01:20:12Whoever was associated with the movie should be fired.
01:20:15Well, now that Dave has saved you some time not watching House of Dynamite, I got something you should watch.
01:20:21How about the Internet Invitational, Dave?
01:20:23One of the biggest, I mean, the biggest YouTube golf tournament that's ever been created.
01:20:29What's going on?
01:20:30What's the release game?
01:20:31Yeah, it premieres today, 1 o'clock.
01:20:33So these are long episodes.
01:20:35They're like three hours each.
01:20:36I think we have six or eight of them.
01:20:37I'm told this is what golf people do.
01:20:39But I was there for it.
01:20:41I think $1.7 million were at stake here.
01:20:45I haven't seen the whole thing, but I know if it's captured correctly, it's one of the best things we've ever done in 20 years.
01:20:55Absolute drama, theatrics, great event.
01:20:58Hopefully it captures it.
01:21:00I'm excited to watch it.
01:21:01Beautiful course.
01:21:02That golf course was unbelievable.
01:21:03Great course.
01:21:04Big cedar.
01:21:06Yeah, great, great.
01:21:07Johnny Morris, who's now my close personal friend, the guy who owns Bass Pro, him and I got along like peanut butter
01:21:15and jelly.
01:21:16I've said that twice this show, but we did.
01:21:17Great friends.
01:21:18Johnny, great guy.
01:21:20Went up to me, introduced himself, and hung out for two minutes.
01:21:23I appreciate it.
01:21:23Either of you are friends with Johnny Morris.
01:21:25I didn't know who he was.
01:21:27Oh, I am friends with Johnny Morris.
01:21:29Are you better friends with Johnny or Madison Beers?
01:21:34Beers.
01:21:34Johnny.
01:21:35Okay, okay, okay.
01:21:37Singular.
01:21:37Johnny or Rapoli?
01:21:39Rapoli.
01:21:40Okay, okay.
01:21:42Rapoli or Brandon Walker?
01:21:43All right, this is just enough.
01:21:46We have a great professional working relationship right now.
01:21:48We have a great professional working relationship where things are good.
01:21:53Are they?
01:21:53They are good.
01:21:54They're good.
01:21:56We're not hanging out on the weekends, but we're good.
01:21:59Do we miss anything else, nerds?
01:22:01Yeah, NDSU, my six, easy.
01:22:05Okay.
01:22:06Thank you very much for having me.
01:22:07Okay, excellent.
01:22:08That was fantastic.
01:22:10It was fantastic.
01:22:11Blowout win.
01:22:12Bryce Lance.
01:22:12I'd spend a late first round.
01:22:13This isn't something we missed, but I mean, I mean, me trying to sneak it in there with
01:22:17the, he snuck in the World Series a couple times.
01:22:18I mean, the World Series is happening right now.
01:22:20I know.
01:22:20I know.
01:22:21It's one to one.
01:22:21I know.
01:22:22The Blue Jays with a nine-run inning the other night with a pinch hit grand slam.
01:22:25First in LB history.
01:22:26Then the Dodgers bounce back, and now we're going to L.A.
01:22:29Yeah, but it is tough when you've got a team from Toronto, L.A.
01:22:33We've seen a million times.
01:22:34It's going up on college football Saturday.
01:22:38I'll watch it, but it can't be going up against football, if we're being honest.
01:22:42Maybe put it on a little TV.
01:22:43I mean, baseball is one of those sports, unless there's big, huge, bram.
01:22:47Dodgers are, but who cares about the Blue Jays, honestly?
01:22:49Yeah, but Toronto, it was electric on front.
01:22:51So, no, so this is where this does get a little crazy, though.
01:22:54I would imagine, like, these two teams probably lead in viewership.
01:22:57Like, in terms of home viewership, the Blue Jays smash,
01:23:00because all of Canada watches.
01:23:02They get over a million a game, and I've got to imagine,
01:23:04if you factor in Japan, that L.A.'s numbers are probably pretty out of control.
01:23:09Well, wide viewership, absolutely, because of Otani, no doubt.
01:23:14What do you think about Max Scherzer tonight, Brandon?
01:23:16Sure, he'll be fine.
01:23:17What should I think about him?
01:23:19I think he's washing.
01:23:21Tonight will be an awful start for him.
01:23:22Okay, well, there you go.
01:23:23Okay.
01:23:25I was also wrong about that at his last start,
01:23:26so we'll see how I do tonight.
01:23:28All right, coming up next, we're going to close out the show
01:23:30talking a little Monday Night Football.
01:23:33One more segment.
01:23:34Here on Wake Up Barstool.
01:23:36Don't do that again.
01:23:37Why, it's a spooky voice.
01:23:41It's Halloween.
01:23:42We're crowned, man.
01:23:46Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool.
01:23:48So, you know, we generally like to have a lot of fun on this show,
01:23:51mess around, but we do have to end today's show
01:23:53on a very somber note, as it's a story that we have talked about here recently,
01:24:00but former Jets great, great football player, all-around great guy,
01:24:07Nick Mangold, has passed away at just 41 years old.
01:24:12I had, well, he was, by all accounts, a great man,
01:24:17and Dave, one that y'all got to know very well through the years.
01:24:21Yeah, so he was involved in the Barstool world, really.
01:24:25I don't know when it started, but for as long as I can remember,
01:24:29I actually, believe it or not,
01:24:31Holly Mangold, his sister, had a show way back in the day on MTV,
01:24:37like, I want to be an Olympic weightlifter,
01:24:39and I talked about it, became friends with Holly.
01:24:41Nick became part of Barstool.
01:24:43He'd be in the office a lot.
01:24:44And really, we've met a lot of athletes through the years at Barstool,
01:24:50and probably the nicest thing or the most genuine thing
01:24:54that you can say about a Nick Mangold
01:24:55is he would be nice and treat you with respect and a friend,
01:25:00and a lot of athletes aren't like this, famous people.
01:25:02He didn't care who you were.
01:25:04He didn't care if you were a professional athlete.
01:25:06He didn't care if you were me, top of the company.
01:25:08He didn't care if you were Meek, Phil, Blutman,
01:25:10or he didn't care if you were just a guy off the street,
01:25:13like he was genuinely just a nice, down-to-earth guy
01:25:18whose outlook on life and who he was friends with
01:25:21and who he would treat with respect and whatever and dignity,
01:25:24despite all his fame and fortune, never changed.
01:25:27Just a genuine, genuine, true, nice guy.
01:25:33And stories like this never fail for me.
01:25:36It's like, you know, there's little things going on in your life,
01:25:39little problems, but you can't take anything for granted.
01:25:42I mean, 41, far too young.
01:25:44There's even that clip of him on the Yak 10 days ago.
01:25:48And he's thanking the Yak guys, being like, you know,
01:25:51sometimes people forget you are an outlet and an escape,
01:25:54and what you do is not appreciated.
01:25:56This is a guy who needed, you know, a kidney.
01:25:58So just a true one-of-one.
01:26:01I don't think you're ever going to find somebody
01:26:04who has anything remotely negative to say about him
01:26:06gone far too soon.
01:26:08And I'm sure what he'd say is just, you know,
01:26:12take a step back, a deep breath, and appreciate every day
01:26:15because none of it's promised,
01:26:16but truly a genuinely nice, loving guy
01:26:21who treated every single person the way you'd want to be treated.
01:26:24One of the best guys I have ever met,
01:26:26and Dave just said it,
01:26:27but Nick Mangold was the man for his entire life,
01:26:30but when he met you, that didn't come across.
01:26:32He's just a regular guy like us.
01:26:34He treated us like regular guys.
01:26:35But the main thing I want to say is as successful as he was
01:26:39and probably was,
01:26:39I think he'd want to be remembered as a family man.
01:26:41He was about his kids.
01:26:42He was about his family.
01:26:43He was about all that.
01:26:44I would text him, and he would not answer for two or three hours.
01:26:47He'd text me back and say,
01:26:48my bad, bro, I was in Disney World.
01:26:49I was in Disneyland with my kids.
01:26:51That's what he was about.
01:26:52That's who he was, an incredible, incredible man.
01:26:55Yeah, and so look,
01:26:58nothing but love and support
01:27:00to the entire Mangold family right now.
01:27:03And, again,
01:27:05here's to hoping that we can all take a step back
01:27:07and just have gratitude for everything we have in life every day
01:27:11that we have, as Nick did,
01:27:12and follow in his footsteps
01:27:13and treat people the right way,
01:27:15no matter who they are.
01:27:17He was the best.
01:27:17We love you, Nick,
01:27:18and the entire family.
01:27:20We'll see you tomorrow.
01:27:20We'll see you tomorrow.
01:27:20We'll see you tomorrow.
