00:00:58weekend huge football weekend saturday college football slate unreal every primetime game

00:01:04delivering but then we get to the nfl man and what a day that it was i think we go around our biggest

00:01:10nfl takeaways from the weekend uh dave kick us off what what captured you sunday i hate the refs i mean

00:01:18i i made a little video ranting about it but that pass interference travis hunter to me totally

00:01:24unacceptable like i just can't have a game you the nfl put so much effort into winning games right and

00:01:32the players and the fans and this billion dollar industry and then you have this play right here

00:01:37fourth and five and to me perfect defense from travis hunter perfect you want to say there's a little

00:01:43hand fighting fine but he turns at the very end knocks the ball away with his hand to me that is

00:01:49how you teach it to throw a flag change the entire game obviously it's fourth and ten stuff like that i

00:01:55don't know how to fix it i'm not going to sit here and say i know how to fix it but i know this that flag

00:02:01can't be thrown and i'm going to ask uh gruden and greg when they're later i would rather you miss a call

00:02:09and you go back to the notre dame game holding i would rather you miss a call be like i didn't see

00:02:15it then wrap then throw a flag on something that didn't happen to change a game with a ref

00:02:20yes i also bet on jacksonville but it's infuriating that flag to me is infuriating and cannot happen

00:02:29look i mean dude i i get it i'm a saints fan i lived through the nola no call right like sean

00:02:35peyton was so angry that he literally created a rule change where he tried to get pis reviewed and

00:02:41now the refs pushed back hard they said no more i'm with you like i don't know that there's a fix

00:02:46to be had necessarily but i am always down to let the boys play like let the actual football players

00:02:53decide the game not the referee you just have to see it it's like you you can't you have to know

00:02:59like you have to know or maybe this is gonna sound crazy you know with a roughing the kicker

00:03:04there's two types right you have the the full 15 where you get the first down and you have a

00:03:09running into the kicker where you get five for this where you don't know what's going on and

00:03:13clearly you didn't see it maybe you take a second regroup with the other refs and maybe it's a five

00:03:19yard penalty and still fourth down or whatever it may be but it's just such a massive massive

00:03:26game-changing penalty and the guy played perfect defense it's uh it's it's kind of interesting to me

00:03:33i didn't thought it's like a yellow card red card i mean college football did that with targeting

00:03:36right for years we thought it was ridiculous where it's like you know the the label absolutely

00:03:40targeting is out of the game now sometimes they don't kick you out you still get a penalty uh

00:03:45brandon football weekend nfl what what stood out so i had two and one is that the cowboys giants

00:03:51was so incredibly eminently watchable it was crazy it was such a great wild game two teams that

00:03:57probably won't figure into the super bowl equation you know dallas can't play defense the giants

00:04:01can't really play anything but it was just two teams in the fourth quarter russell wilson looked

00:04:05like it was 2012 all over again dac is going down the field it was an incredible it after saturday

00:04:11those great college football games this felt like a college football game on nfl football not to say

00:04:17the nfl football games aren't close and exciting but there there were mistakes there were blown

00:04:21coverages there were blown penalties there were blown everything and it was just a remarkable game

00:04:25and my number two is daniel jones is just good daniel jones is just a good football player for the

00:04:33indianapolis colts and i believe that leaving the new york giants is the fountain of youth in nfl

00:04:37football i'm sorry meek phil it is you leave the giants you are going to have a good season and

00:04:42daniel jones is a good starting quarterback in the nfl and i'm not sure how many people expected that

00:04:47through two weeks meek how do we feel it's through two weeks sam donnell lose three and out the

00:04:51panthers wait till the end of the season see how it goes and on the other part i mean the giants

00:04:55has never beat dak prescott he's 14-0 versus since his rookie season we beat him twice it's just

00:05:00never going to happen we will not have the power of of just winning football games or stack sam

00:05:05donnell's also a good quarterback yes no he's not yes he is the vikings would kill for sam

00:05:10donnell system qb no nothing you said was convincing in the slot well i convinced myself that's all that

00:05:16matters i i have a question walker is a dolphins fan supposedly and i would argue the dolphins patriots

00:05:21game was far more like a college game than than the cowboy giants there was back-to-back kickoff

00:05:28returns that was watched down crazy plays all over the field no defense he's just ignoring also with

00:05:34the cowboys i don't know if you saw jerry jones celebrating in the locker room laugh out loud funny

00:05:39they were doing like one two three hey he was off beat the entire time i don't know if you can catch

00:05:44it he was a one sec walker i see you shrugging and going what but i'm right about the pages dolphins i

00:05:49assume you're watching it it's your favorite team you want to talk college game they're better teams

00:05:53than what we just saw yeah the the patriots won that game i'm not going to sit here and say oh my

00:05:58goodness i love the patriots dolphins game that was trash coming down you look at the fourth quarter

00:06:03execution with the dolphins it was frustrating it was terrible too it doesn't belong in the league at

00:06:06this point why am i going to give that a spotlight when i watched my guy dac prescott win that game

00:06:12you've got to be kidding me well you compared it to a college game and this patriot well they both

00:06:17worth it that's fine had all those plays that like crazy calls game and that by the way i know

00:06:21two of stinks i've been saying two of stinks for the last 100 years nobody's been the number one

00:06:26to a hater than me and i'm right because i'm a quarterback whisperer really jj mccarthy let's

00:06:31whisper about him for a second he he's played two nfl games brain he's a national champion he's played

00:06:37two he can't throw that offense align as you said before we started t bob could have blocked for

00:07:21think about the vikings like throwing themselves behind jj because they had danny dimes they had

00:07:26sam darnold like they had some options so i'll still hold out a little bit of hope because i trust

00:07:36whisperer anything no we know kevin o'connell's a quarterback whisperer and if he chose to go

00:07:41with jj there's something there but it we haven't seen it much yet i had a private conversation with

00:07:52this guy's a first ballot hall of famer i couldn't be more confident you're so lucky to watch him in

00:07:58michigan and let me tell you something else unlike you two i watched another quarterback during

00:08:02my time at university of michigan lead them to a national championship who was a late round draft

00:08:06pick and i said from day one watch out for this guy this guy is everything you need you know what

00:08:11his name was tom brady so you two can sit there and your puffy little chairs on set but i've watched

00:08:17michigan quarterbacks who have the intangibles that have led teams to national championships be

00:08:21overshadowed over doubted in the nfl and turn around have a great career he's played two games let's

00:08:28hold the phone hey tom brady didn't lead michigan to a national championship nebraska was nebraska

00:08:33was on the team champ that he's on the team a half a national championship he was on the team

00:08:36didn't lead anything uh speaking of quarterbacks look for me man it's dude it's got to be the joe

00:08:42burrow injury right like this has got to be one of the biggest stories in all of sports right now

00:08:46joe burrow mvp candidate played for a super bowl every year and ironically right the bingles so used

00:08:52to starting 0 and 2 having to claw their way back they're finally 2 and 0 first time since

00:08:582018 they sit atop of the afc north alone and yet burrow right now rumored to have a gray

00:09:04three turf toe that could keep him out for three months dude it is a brutally ironic twist for a

00:09:11bingles organization this is what i don't get they're going to commit 275 million dollars to

00:09:15their quarterback and year after year speaking to battle line just get him killed i mean just just

00:09:20get him killed every single game and they continue to pay the consequences and they don't adjust

00:09:25it's an awful time to be a bingles fan all right yeah there was an interview with him i don't know

00:09:30where i saw it but they asked him is it fair to say you're injury prone and i think he said yes right

00:09:35now i've missed a bunch of time but i mean he certainly doesn't have help at the offensive line

00:09:40but then you got to also really do start asking is this just kind of a star cross quarterback because

00:09:46when he's on he's as good as there is but he's missing a lot of time now i just think it's embarrassing

00:09:51you just want to talk about an lsu guy dave only wants to talk about michigan guys i am i the only

00:09:55one who's unbiased up here yeah i want to talk about the cowboys and the giants yeah yeah exactly

00:10:51so theoretically it should have been completed i thought that was an interesting call not to go

00:10:56for the field goal so go ahead brim well i think it was aggressive i think it's uh you know kind of

00:11:01a newfangled coaching approach but i i liked it he called he dialed up a first down yes brian thomas by

00:11:06the way yeah alligator arms over the middle he did it three times yesterday for trevor lawrence he stops

00:11:45need to debate alligator arms the call dave is fascinating to me because as a play caller right

00:11:52we normally just judge it based on the results did it work or not did you get the first down or not

00:11:56but there can be good calls that don't work because somebody screws up like i think liam cohen made the

00:12:01right call there it should have worked his best player the player that he said they were going to run

00:12:06the offense through in the preseason just didn't make the play when he had to and then and then and

00:12:11then what ends up happening jake browning goes on a 90 plus yard game-winning drive like i like liam

00:12:17cohen trying to uh uh take or maintain the initiative and just go ahead and close out that game while he

00:12:23can it's the same yeah and a lot of things it's the same principles last year when sirianni went

00:12:28forward on fourth and two he threw a pass to saquon barkley with the monday night football game

00:12:32on the line saquon drops it the call was right the play call was right yes the player messed up

00:12:37yeah and it would have won the game he was trying to win the game sorry dave liam cohen it's an all

00:12:41time i mean you're judged i i have no problem with the call because it worked if now if he drew up a

00:12:48bad play probably criticized he actually should have won twice because he's betting on if we don't get

00:12:53the first down our defense won't let that drive and then you get into that pass interference which we

00:12:57talked about earlier the most famous for me and my fandom is bill belichick going for it on fourth

00:13:03and two against the colts oh god the afc championship instead of punting we didn't get it we ended up

00:13:09losing the game i loved the call i thought if you punted peyton's gonna go right down the field and score

00:13:15anyways probably my most famous fourth down call um and i loved it and i loved it when it happened and i

00:13:22stood by it but yeah you get judged by results clearly liam cohen did say 100 of the time the data

00:13:28the analytics the field were going for that he made the right call there's actually like a serious

00:13:34brian thomas jr conversation to be had just two weeks in i don't know if i get a takeaway or not but

00:13:40that was going to be mine trevor lawrence has targeted them 19 times this season brian thomas has

00:13:44got five passes yeah put up 62 yards uh has one yard after the catch two drops and interceptions

00:13:52been thrown he is legitimately scared of getting hurt i have watched but like with intent because

00:13:59i'm wanting to see what travis hunter is doing too i'm looking at brian thomas it just wasn't three

00:14:04times yesterday where he's clearly scared bracing for contact early making sure he's on the ground not

00:14:10gang hit it happened four five six times he's genuinely afraid of contact and for your superstar

00:14:18wide receiver to be scared of a little hit i mean what are we doing here you gotta take a lick

00:14:29so i i like i agree with you with that level of expectation you have to perform better um especially

00:22:47the hold and the pass interference i'm curious from you what bothers you more if you're the coach

00:22:53the non-call or the call that's the pass interference that's called which this is perfect defense i'll say

00:23:01it a thousand times perfect defense and then you have the notre dame play

00:23:05yeah it all makes me sick dave i mean when you have a blatant missed call it bothers you the end

00:23:13of the notre dame texas a and n game is ridiculous it's not a fringe call the guy tackled the notre

00:23:20dame player i mean he tackled him on fourth and 11 you know it's going to be a pass and you know

00:23:25it's a four-man rush so what the hell are you looking at and i'll say this about pass interference

00:23:31when we keep reviewing these plays at this super duper slow-mo crap everything looks like pass

00:23:39interference yeah and for these referees to get paid this kind of money and to blow these calls at

00:23:46the end of the game there's just too many calls that are being decided at the end of the game and

00:23:51i throw it back to you guys that's why i think the coach on the sideline who's got this stupid red flag

00:23:57should be able to throw the flag out there when a call is screwed up go up in the booth you got all

00:24:03these million dollar referees and this technology get it right there's no reason we should sit there

00:24:09for 59 minutes and 36 seconds and have some call send us home pissed off every day yeah so now

00:24:17we had an era of the you could review the passing one year they couldn't do that either which and they

00:24:24even sometimes get it wrong and obvious that's the only thing how do you review a pass interference

00:24:29because they did it and they couldn't do it they couldn't get it right well the next thing dave is

00:24:35let's have some accountability here i mean you go to the the league office the next day you say okay

00:24:40he missed the call i mean let's put the name of the official on the back of the jerseys let's have

00:24:45some accountability because some of us coaches get run out of the league and called dorks on these

00:24:51national radio shows i mean how about these reps where is the freaking accountability on some of

00:24:58these calls notre dame just got kicked out of the ncaa playoffs last year they lose to northern illinois

00:25:04they run the table if they beat texas a&m looking at their schedule they're going to be in a tournament

00:25:10again but these calls i saw one in the arkansas state iowa state game oh yes yes i'll tell you what

00:25:18if you put the names of the officials on the back of the jerseys i think we'd have a lot of widows out

00:25:25there i i don't know how we can go that far to be putting i agree with you it's a terrible call

00:25:31maybe a game suspension maybe something i said it before i can live with the missed call of notre

00:25:36dame brutal because i want the refs to know they saw something if you miss it i don't know i was

00:26:37three months would you rather and this includes the record would you rather be the oh and two

00:26:42chiefs or two and oh bengals right now i'd rather be the chiefs agreed colts two and oh i'd still

00:28:32don't want to get dark so i'm not going to throw i'm not going to say jump off a bridge or anything

00:28:37like that but if you were a fan of these teams which one would cause you to jump off a bridge

00:28:42first okay these are some of the worst teams we got in the league so we have i'm just going to

00:28:48throw them all there like any hope no hope some hope the new york jets you jumping off a bridge

00:28:56dolphins yeah i am drowning saints yeah i'm having a hard time with the saints right now

00:29:07browns really hard time hard now the browns the browns that's just a nice they haven't gone to the

00:29:21not going to let him play or or shador you'll see them both soon dave and so do you think they

00:29:28have no faith in these guys because they have a super bowl defense i don't know about that i mean

00:29:33they've got a couple great players on their defense but they beat the bangles who have a backup

00:29:39offensive guard playing they're not very good up front and yesterday they got destroyed i mean

00:29:44wait wait wait wait can somebody give me the stats more just tried to get out of town man they

00:29:49tried to run the clock yeah but there was all sorts of uh i'm pulling up right now i think henry's

00:29:56rushing stats were were 11 carries 23 yards coach that's a super bowl he was tired dave he had 200

00:30:03yards the previous week he was probably tired giants i do like a lot of the giant players and i i just

00:30:13and really disappointed in their pass rushers yesterday they had a chance to close that game

00:30:18out with the strength of that team i'm ticked off at the giants but i do i do see some life there so

00:30:24you're on land you're you're still on land yeah i'm not yeah i'm on land bears boy they really ticked me

00:30:32off um there's there's just nothing to like yesterday i was really hopeful of this team

00:30:39i still am not going to quit on them because i like their coach i'm just disgusted with their

00:30:45defense we can say whatever we want about caleb in this offense but that defense they got shredded

00:30:51how long do you do you give caleb i think you got to give him the year you know i think you got to

00:30:59give him the most of this season he's the number one pick in the draft learning a new system and

00:31:05they do have a lot of new pieces around them so i got to give them some time i mean you guys want to

00:31:10throw the first pick in a draft in the in the uh lake michigan after two games well i i'm not a

00:31:16bears fan i just know what the bears have done they passed on mahomes that's just a fact they passed

00:31:22on jayden daniels that's a fact uh there's a lot of quarterbacks in that draft that they

00:31:27they i think are the most depressing team carolina panthers another 0-2 team boy that's tough yeah

00:31:34yeah i'm i'm in the water i am i'm looking for a raft so you're done you're done with bryce young

00:31:40i don't think i'm done with him i'm just i'm just having a hard time watching that outfit yesterday i

00:31:45admire their comeback against arizona but they're just faceless on defense for the most part and i just

00:31:52i think they got a long way to go titans wow i don't like their uniforms i am definitely

00:32:00submerged even though the quarterback see to me that's surprising because the quarterback has

00:32:05looked pretty good well he's had some great individual plays but he's been sacked 12 times

00:32:11i mean he's got to be sore as hell i just worry about the titans man and the last one i got for you

00:32:17they haven't played their second game the texans who i picked to win the super bowl last year

00:32:23preseason it was a giant disappointment and i think are regressing what do you got on them

00:32:28yeah i'm i'm not as high on the texans as you are i just i feel them slipping away on offense

00:32:35they can't protect the passer and they just struggle with any consistency on offense and they have a bad

00:32:41body language i don't like their body language for some reason all right so of all those teams

00:33:37football let's go with the voice of college football i got brandon walker he's got you a fresh

00:33:43top 10 i do brandon how we feel feel good i mean that was an invigorating weekend of college

00:33:48really was you're right the the death of clemson when georgia tech took them down there's something

00:33:53about georgia tech when they stormed the field and i don't know this is very inexact science

00:33:56they got a very pleasing field to be stormed i don't know if it's the size of the stadium

00:34:01we can get into that later here's my top 10 i still got ohio state although they didn't look

00:34:05that great against ohio i got penn state they haven't looked that great against nobody yet

00:34:09miami i think is fantastic they beat dave portnoy's number one team the south florida bulls uh last

00:34:15week 49 to 12 georgia say that yeah you did yeah you did i said if they won the game brandon i i do

00:34:21what's on the field georgia georgia beat tennessee huge win they jump up i knocked lsu down a little bit

00:34:27because that clemson win not aging yeah that's fine i don't the florida win wasn't impressive i know

00:34:31brian kelly got mad at the question uh the question was right just should have come later in the press

00:34:36yes i agree it's a legitimate question oregon is number five i don't really know where to put

00:34:40them right now but they look like uh just an absolute uh problem out there so and then the

00:34:45rest of it illinois is kind of a placeholder to me i don't know they've proven it but i don't see

00:34:48that many teams uh that deserve to be up there tennessee stays in because they played so well

00:34:53against georgia that's my top 10 there you go and a&m sneaking in at nine a&m sneaks in at nine

00:34:58uh they their offense is so much more explosive than i thought it was going to be marcel reed is so much

00:35:03better than i thought he was going to be mario craver the transfer wide receiver from mississippi

00:35:07state is electric and one of the best receivers in the country didn't see that coming but they can

00:35:12score a lot of points and now that they're through the notre dame trip the season and and all

00:35:17possibilities open up to texas a&m right now one it's not just craver it's conception it's the entire

00:35:22offense though really and and this is something that in doing the shows you know with quarterbacks that

00:35:27i really started to have a new appreciation for which is just how much a receiver matters right

00:35:33because i kind of grew up on the drew breeze thing where it's like oh you plug anybody and they're

00:35:36going to be fine craver conception has changed everything for marcel reading that offense dave

00:35:41you look well i just don't give cookies and cupcakes and candy canes for teams that lose if you lose you

00:35:50lose tennessee lost so to see them in the top 10 get them out of there oklahoma's undefeated their

00:35:59defenses looked amazing they beat a ranked michigan team who should have been ranked thoroughly so put

00:36:05them in give them their flowers there's plenty of other undefeated teams but i hate this this culture

00:36:11this is a reward everyone gets a trophy generation you lost the game at home that you had and

00:36:20you have them in the top 10 with the loss get them out of there walker's notorious this is why he

00:36:26doesn't know what he's talking about this is why this man does not know what he's talking about in

00:36:29college football if we had it your way we just wouldn't need to vote we would just take the

00:36:33records and we plug them into a computer and then we have our rankings that's not how i look at all of

00:36:38it tennessee went out there against the top five georgia team had them 21 to six and 21 to seven

00:36:43at one point ended up losing josh heupel figured out a way to lose that game so i'm not that high on the

00:36:48coach's decision making right now well he's a part of the team but that quarterback is very good that

00:36:52team is very good and i'm not going to sit here and tell you i'm not going to sit here and lie to

00:36:56people and say there's 10 better teams in tennessee just because they lost a tough game

00:36:59oklahoma doesn't have a good win yet they beat yes they did do you see what michigan did last week

00:37:04isn't good michigan is not a good football team you watch what they did to the chippewas

00:37:08this is very funny it's very reminiscent of when i was drinking wine in the gambling cave and arguing

00:37:17with dave about binary results because yeah he said you should not be ranked if you're oh and one i

00:37:22probably fall somewhere in the middle here because i am very high in oklahoma i'd have no problem with

00:37:27them popping into a top 10 but i mean i do think brandon is right this was a quality loss if such a

00:37:33thing exists this is sec but this is where no no no no no it's not no it's not i had tennessee

00:37:41in this game and i'm not giving this georgia some superpower at all so i we're living in the past

00:37:47you lose the game at home you should win the game when you're at home and you're up 21 7 your coach

00:37:53loses uh loses track of his testicles and starts playing really conservative football and you lose

00:38:00the game so this is the only thing i push back you don't stay in the top 10 this is what i push

00:38:04back on though yes heupel should not have run it the three times when he did he should have been

00:38:08more aggressive he still had them lined up with an easy field goal to win it's like we talked about

00:38:13with liam co it wasn't easy it was 43 yards 43 yards 43 is completely acceptable that's not easy oh my

00:38:20and it wasn't just you're just talking about that you're just talking about that one sequence okay

00:38:24he had multiple times in that game in the first half there was a fourth and two at the 49 yard line

00:38:29kirby smart goes for it three drives later heupel has it fourth and two from the 40 yard line he's

00:38:34got a seven point lead he punts it i don't know why he punts it there with his quarterback who had

00:38:38400 yards passing and then in the second half they get a turnover in plus territory they get a strip

00:38:42sack at the 30 yard line he runs it up the middle three times kicks a long field goal i don't

00:38:46understand where heupel's testicles went you're just giving reasons why they shouldn't be a top 10 team

00:38:50no i'm not that's shut up thank you meek and i'm looking at this this underlay right here on the

00:38:55screen georgia number six georgia defeats number 15 tennessee you know in overtime and walker has

00:39:03them at 10 this is like that lady walker's this lady from the ap poll who's ranking people up not

00:39:10even watching the game dave you had south florida in the top 10 last week because they beat because

00:39:15they beat and now they're out and they beat florida yeah they're out but you know why they're out

00:39:18because they're not that good and we saw them finally play a good team you let them prove it on

00:39:23the field results matter oh let's go let's go i want to go here to bloody okay because he's been

00:39:33he's been deep criticism criticizing the ap poll bloody what's who has the right of this where should

00:39:39tennessee be well i i that's where it gets foggy because there's something that needs to be clear

00:39:45in like i think i come away from that game thinking tennessee and georgia are two best teams in the

00:39:51sec like i think tennessee's a top five six team but you can't rake them there with the like

00:39:56at two and one so that's just if you just said yes but that's where it's foggy then yes you can

00:40:01no you can't but that's where it gets foggy brandon walker results market he thinks it's a

00:40:09prediction market and he wants to be proven right it's not foggy at all they will have plenty of

00:40:14time to prove they belong there but you don't reward them with losses if somebody says liam

00:40:19blutman give me your top 10 and you say i think tennessee's a top five or six team and you don't put

00:40:24them in your top 10 you're lying to cover yourself i haven't i i they would still be in my top 10 it's

00:40:30just when you have the loss and there's teams that haven't lost ahead of them and the level of

00:40:34competition is still fairly similar early in the season i can't do it justice of playing a team

00:40:39with the loss ahead of a team with no loss that's just why the system kind of stinks like we're all

00:40:44at fault for it we're arguing something stupid let's celebrate the death of clemson so so i was

00:40:48going to say let's just celebrate the day of college football as a whole because every time window had a

00:40:54major game and everyone didn't just deliver it went over the top i mean you mentioned the death of

00:40:59clemson absolutely kind of a final stand for davo all the expectation entering the season and here comes

00:41:05brent key remember last year against georgia georgia tech so close to the signature win they

00:41:10couldn't quite get it done this time they do it with an impeccably operated uh a fire drill field

00:41:17goal a 55 yarder guys 55 yarder to win the game kill clemson storm the field then we get to 230 we have

00:41:26we have tennessee trying to become a perennial contender and gunner stockton comes through with

00:41:30a fourth and eight touchdown gotta have a game on the line are you kidding me and then the coup de

00:41:35grade a&m going into south bend fourth and goal uh everything hanging in the balance they come up

00:41:41with a touchdown it was just one of the best days of college football i've ever experienced

00:41:46gun tad do you guys think uh nordam wins out there in the playoffs i would say

00:41:52i would i would want to say no because i wouldn't put them in but i'd never underestimate the committee

00:41:58and the the uh college football media populace's ability to absolutely cater to notre dame so yeah

00:42:05i think they might be i would not put them in because these were their two best chances at good

00:42:09wins and they failed on both of them but if they go 10 and 2 right if they go 10 and 2 there's at large

00:42:15spots available it's probably going to be competing with nine and three teams yeah i don't i i did

00:42:20absolutely they'll get it with their defense though at at arkansas and taylor green and at

00:42:25pitt and eli olstein will not be easy yeah i don't think they will go 10 and 2 right i don't think they

00:42:29will but if they do i think they'd make it yeah i agree if they i was saying they're dead i like

00:42:34trolling notre dame fans a lot and they did that was a brutal call i mean it was definitely that was

00:42:40just that wasn't just a hole that was a tackle by the way also i mean you want to talk about

00:42:46worrying about kids feelings what what broadcast was that was that came on

00:42:50cbs nbc was at nbc whatever channel the kid who dropped the the the snap on the extra point

00:42:56they had they iso cam that kid that kid they didn't take him off the screen i think he knows

00:43:02he blew it i think he they wanted tears from that kid but i do think they go they run the table they're

00:43:09in their notre dame i thought i thought dave was talking about the tennessee kicker on abc because

00:43:13this goes into the hypo decision making and everything in the in the length of the field

00:43:19a 43r whatever the kicker is hyperventilating on the sidelines for five to ten minutes before the

00:43:25kick is ever attempted like when when your kicker is literally going through the the emotional

00:43:31roller coaster that he was missing that kick was the least shocking event of the season

00:43:37also that's a choke like there's some kicks you miss and there's some you choke that one never had a

00:43:44shot from the second the foot hit the ball it never had it it never had a shot from the second

00:43:49they showed them for the first time on the side it was a full team choke too because it was supposed

00:43:53to be a 38 yard i agree and then they had a false start moved it back five oh yeah that forgot about

00:43:58the false start the entire team choked right there coming down from hypo see again hypo see it was an

00:44:03even closer field goal that he had lined up then he got the false start full team choke from a top 10

00:44:07team also dave i don't like your avatar over here oh he was right again hey i took tennessee and i

00:44:17think tennessee will end up at the end of the season being a top 10 team but i don't reward losers

00:44:24that's what's wrong with this country to me it's not a reward it is reality reality is saying last week

00:44:30when south florida had won two games against ranked teams that oh let's pump our brakes those two

00:44:35ranked teams weren't that good that was reality and that was uh me being correct they ended up

00:44:39getting beat 49 to 12 that's reality is oh that's like if the 1980 olympics the u.s team stuns russia

00:44:47are you ranking russia ahead of them the next week because they play a hundred times the russians are

00:44:52going to win the next hundred times that was a tournament with a medal at stake and we still had to

00:44:57beat finland uh in the gold medal anyway you get the point i get the point but it wasn't a good

00:45:03point i thought that was meek what'd you think don't ask me i think it was i think it was a great

00:45:08point no no admittedly meek is completely biased he can't he planted me in here for this reason yeah

00:45:13he can't be the arbiter he cannot be the arbiter i'm unbiased i don't have a team

00:45:24they be in the top 10 what are we doing there utah is definitely a team that has looked really good

00:45:28uh to me so far they would be right outside of the top 10 but there's only 10 spots for 10 teams

00:45:33i can't put i can put everybody in there are only 10 spots for 10 teams and that's a team that

00:45:37deserves that spot but because of pre-season prejudice and i think tennessee's a better football

00:45:42team than utah illinois do you want hey utah keep that in mind we're heading we're heading to utah

00:45:47first time i've ever been to state brand walker just said you are not a top 10 team and tennessee

00:45:53is better than you guys so keep that i'll say that when we show up at the crack of dawn

00:45:57for a big noon kickoff walker hates the utes if that is not true uh i think utah is a fantastic team

00:46:03i like the quarterback i like the team i was super impressed with tennessee on saturday therefore

00:46:08they're my number 10 impressive loss tennessee's not the the team to have issue with illinois yes yeah

00:46:14utah is a team that has a great offensive scheme a great quarterback great running game

00:46:20very reliable they have two top 15 picks at left and right tackle they are the complete makeup of a

00:46:27great big 10 team they'll be right outside the big three in the big 10 and nobody wants to give

00:46:32them their flowers because they don't play in that conference and that's a massive mistake and an

00:46:36indictment on the ineptitude of people that watch college football okay okay you win the law of other

00:46:41people include are tripping on this utah i i love your utah team i believe in utah kyle whittingham's

00:46:46resume points that we should believe in utah but we also can't ding illinois not after dave's just

00:46:52sat here and say wins are all that matters i mean illinois's kicked ass they went into duke great

00:46:56win like no i'm not i'm not going to take illinois out my top hold on hold on is going into duke a

00:47:00great win i don't think that's a great win and when you end up dominating the manner that they did

00:47:04who'd you have in that game walker just curious duke illinois who'd you have i uh i followed liam

00:47:58win on big noon kickoff right here in chicago coach lanning what's going on man thank you so much

00:48:03for waking up with us yeah doing great thanks for having me guys uh coach i want to start here

00:48:08coming into this season obviously y'all were incredible last year did something no big 10

00:48:12team has ever done in beating penn state ohio state and michigan um and you lost a lot from that team

00:48:18now we knew you brought in a lot of talent right but that can go awry that can be volatile and yet

00:48:24y'all have looked like one of the sharpest and the highest executing teams in the entire country thus

00:48:29far uh what is the key when you bring in that many new guys to getting them to click this early

00:48:35yeah i think you just gotta be really open and honest with our players you know we're able to

00:48:39have like real conversations guys we're losing some some talent we're losing some experience we're

00:48:44losing some leadership who's gonna step up and uh there's probably a little bit of misconception too

00:48:49about like the amount of portal players that we have like less than 20 percent of our snaps in the

00:48:53first three games have come from portal players oh wow that we've developed you know um and then

00:48:58there's some freshmen that are contributing early and i've always said if you're good enough you're old

00:49:01enough we've got some really good young players um that are able to contribute and uh it's this this

00:49:07season's really been about strength in numbers like how many guys above the line can play winning

00:49:11football and we've had a lot of guys that can play winning football for us so far

00:49:14coach when you look at uh when you look at what's coming up and how last year ended um it's it's kind

00:49:23of a bit of a cruel story where again 13-0 win the big 10 do all these incredible things and you get to

00:49:28the playoffs what happens happens uh and it's it's almost like that season is lost a little bit in

00:49:34some ways what was your message to the team over the offseason to kind of motivate them and uh and get

00:49:40them ready for this year i don't think it's any secret mike but losing hurts man and it's funny you

00:49:45can have a remarkable season but uh and not finish the way you want and uh it's a failure right and

00:49:51that's the way competitors are we're no different we want to win every opportunity we step on the field

00:49:56um you know but ultimately we learn a lot from that we're big on on growth right what can you

00:50:01take from it what can you grow from how can you get better and and uh as a staff we talked about

00:50:06doubling down really on our process i really believe in our process but one of the things i

00:50:10think that makes us the best it a lot of things we do is we're willing to change we're willing to

00:50:14adapt uh as the game changes um as the climate changes in college football uh we're willing to make

00:50:20those adjustments our players do a great job with it coach a couple of weeks ago hi brandon walker

00:50:24number one college football media personality in the world uh a couple of weeks ago you played

00:50:28oklahoma state you beat them 69 to 3 and that whole week was a bunch of back and forth where coach

00:50:34gundy really all he said was you guys have invested in your program over there and you're you're you're

00:50:39you're pointing towards the future and you're putting everything into it and then you beat him 69

00:50:42to 3 it looked personal out there coach what what went wrong what what made him what made you so mad

00:50:47about it his numbers were off brandon it was more like a hundred million is what we spent last year okay

00:50:53no no it wasn't his numbers were his numbers were off but look as a my position you're going to use

00:50:58any fuel you can to motivate your team right and uh sometimes you're looking for it and sometimes it

00:51:04just reveals itself and uh we had an opportunity to do that we didn't we didn't score in the fourth

00:51:08quarter you know it wasn't a situation where we're just trying to run up the score we're trying to go

00:51:12play good football winning football um and our guys executed well that day um so ultimately it was um

00:51:18you know it was a fun experience for us but an opportunity to grow and get better

00:51:21i got a question for you coach and this is you made headlines and what i would say a a not on the

00:51:29field way you decided to talk about the charlie kirk assassination and a lot of people want me to talk

00:51:35about it we've had controversy a little bit we have different you know accounts talking about or not

00:51:40talking about it i thought what you said was was great that your locker room's a diverse environment

00:51:45everybody gets along for you and i am curious as a leader you represent the school you represent your

00:51:51team what went into you deciding to make a public statement about that because it can be construed

00:51:57a lot of different ways did you talk to your team first or is this you from the gut you're like i have

00:52:02to do it i'm gonna do it and i don't care what anybody else thinks this is what i could do as dan

00:52:06lanning yeah it helped if there was a question you know uh really about the climate um but i've spoken

00:52:13on stuff like this before it probably just hasn't garnered the attention before and you know after the

00:52:18utah game in 2022 you know we're dealing with school shootings in the world it just makes me sick

00:52:24and i feel like when you have an opportunity you have a voice shame on you if you don't use it um

00:52:29and and i do think there's a lot that people can learn from our locker room so you know whether it's

00:52:34um an assassination attempt whether it's a school shooting like we've got a problem with just the

00:52:39respect the human life in this world uh it bothers me right and especially as a guy with three young

00:52:44kids and um it's it's just a little nerve-wracking that we just don't respect human life um regardless

00:52:50of who it is um it's wrong murder's wrong in every way and uh i think when you get a chance to speak

00:52:56on it you need to and the political climate i'm not gonna hop into politics but we don't work together

00:53:01and so we're not solving a lot of problems it'd be great if we started to work together and and

00:53:06really start to solve some problems i respect that it's a tough thing i don't think as many people

00:53:11maybe totally realize it if you just shoot from the hip no i didn't mean to use that term but

00:53:16speaking your mind is not easy when you represent so many diverse opinions people so uh a lot of

00:53:22respect for you tackling that head on i said it saturday like some people were going to be upset

00:53:28because i didn't say enough and some people will be upset that i said anything at all and it's just

00:53:32such a it shouldn't be a divisive concept right like hey let's care about each other but for whatever

00:53:38reason it is and hopefully we can grow as a nation because we need to yeah no well said coach you

00:53:45mentioned you mentioned um kind of the diverse backgrounds of the locker room that some playing

00:53:49to lsu i definitely recognized right like i i came from a small mostly white georgia private school

00:53:56and all of a sudden there's just all these different people all walks of life but it's definitely got

00:54:00more decisive divisive publicly now so i know you're very process oriented uh is that something

00:54:07that is within y'all's process like how do you seek to create unity with people that are coming

00:54:12from all over the country from all over different socioeconomic backgrounds we spend a ton of time

00:54:18with these guys outside of football i think that's really important too now um without teams change

00:54:23you know the amount of players you can gain or lose in an offseason uh how much time are you

00:54:36it's going out and bowl bowling together like as much time as we can connect outside of football

00:54:40because i think in today's world like natural climate it's normal for guys to go back to their

00:54:45dorm room shut the door and start playing video games or hop on their computer and we need real human

00:54:50interaction we need to spend time with each other uh to connect and the connection i think is that

00:54:54the separating factor for us here at oregon totally different question that i've thought

00:54:59about and shifting gears back to more football now i'm a big 10 guy i'm michigan guy when i saw

00:55:05what i consider soft west coast pack 12 football joining our content our conference i said these

00:55:11guys are not going to be able to travel they're going to be coming in now you're a little cold

00:55:14weather what how is the travel to me that was a huge story always these long trips how have you

00:55:20guys adjusted to that is it a factor is it's not you guys seem to be the only ones kind of

00:55:24handling it like ucla look at them soft uh usc soft you guys won the big 10 last year

00:55:30what's the travel schedule how have you adjusted to life in the big 10 and big 10 football yeah you

00:55:36can you can sit here and complain about it or you can use it as a unique challenge and i think that's

00:55:40what our players have done i said okay this is going to be a unique challenge i think we travel

00:55:4216 000 miles this year uh sure i think there's some teams in our conference that travel 4 000 miles

00:55:47right so it tells you we knew that the chips might be stacked against us in a little bit

00:55:52uh especially being the new guy in town and we knew that there was a a little bit of a voice

00:55:57out there that said okay can these guys handle the big 10 so that was a great opportunity for us to

00:56:01prove that you know we play tough football you guys were talking about it before i got on here but

00:56:05you know there's been some some traditionally you know uh bloody nose teams in the pack 12 with utah

00:56:11oregon state some of those teams that uh were able to run the ball and i think a lot of the big 10

00:56:16carries on some of that same uh mindset you know with the way the brand of football is played with

00:56:20iowa and michigan you know so it was fun to get to be a part of that in this conference this past

00:56:25year and uh you'll prove we belong and i think i think the results speak for themselves coach i know

00:56:31the last thing you want to do right now is look forward to the penn state game in a couple of

00:56:34weeks so let's look forward to the penn state game in a couple of weeks it's the first big big huge big

00:56:3910 game this year and he just asked you about the travel well now you're not only traveling you're

00:56:43going to happy valley you're going to beaver stadium you're going to a whiteout you're going into

00:56:47one of the craziest environments it's probably going to be a top five matchup just talk about

00:56:51that game i know you got a game this saturday i understand that but i'm asking about the penn

00:56:55state game and what's coming up so just don't give you coach speak right now is what you're saying

00:56:59that's what i'm trying to get to yes please oh man that's so hard we got oregon state this week no

00:57:03um what that's part of what's been so exciting for me coming to the big 10 you never get to like

00:57:08getting to play in venues that we're getting to play in and penn state will be an unbelievable venue

00:57:12we got to go to the big house last year i don't know if dave remembers that one

00:57:15we're at a down here coach i you probably have nightmares we got this kid bryce underwood may

00:57:19have heard he's a baller isn't he he's coming around they let him use his legs last week ran for

00:57:233 000 yards yeah he's but no like that's part of what you sign up for that's what that's part of

00:57:28what's so exciting about being in this conference and uh i know the wideout game they've got an

00:57:33unbelievable fan uh base it's going to be loud you know that's i've experienced some games like that

00:57:38in the past i'm excited for our players to get to enjoy that but obviously right now brandon it's

00:57:43oregon state what about the duck is the duck doing publicity good question when the duck when

00:57:48the duck's head fell off was that pre-game was like hey we're playing maybe not a big big game

00:57:54not a lot of coverage let's get some media attention have the duck fall down trip head run off i think

00:57:59the duck is starting to pull one off on us i don't think he's acting natural out there you know

00:58:04mcafee said that to me he goes was that that was on purpose right and i was like i'm that's just way

00:58:09above my like my thought process i'm a pe major to think about like intentionally letting your head

00:58:14fall off for for a publicity stunt is impressive so if he did i feel like that was coach speak

00:58:20i feel like you really think they asked yeah oh no i think guys like you know everything that's

00:58:27going on in the program they're not doing fake duck publicity stunts with you without you putting a

00:58:33stamp on it yeah you're giving me way too much credit i got i got a lot of other stuff to worry

00:58:37about rather than hey now when the duck runs out let's go through this one more time i'm trying

00:58:42to figure out what we're running on kickoff or kickoff return uh well it's it's kind of funny

00:58:47thing coach because i want to ask you about the uniforms like does that fall under your purview i

00:58:51mean look oregon's known for having incredible uniform combinations every time bring something new

00:58:56uh the shoe duck coming up this week and tell us about it how awesome is that um so i'm not i was

00:59:04never a shoe guy until i got here i was never a jersey guy until i got here and then when i got

00:59:08here it's like absolutely let's embrace this it's part of what's made oregon so special and phil and

00:59:13penny knight um bill bowerman have been so special to this program that this was this was actually a

00:59:19surprise uh for phil because we knew if we asked phil he would have probably said no the guy who doesn't

00:59:24want attention uh isn't interested in being front and center uh and doesn't necessarily want want credit

00:59:31for all the success that he's helped create obviously in our program and just throughout

00:59:35sports right he's been uh so impactful to sports but this this jersey tells an unbelievable story

00:59:41about a coach uh and his and his player building a unique bond um and creating one of the most dynamic

00:59:48companies in the world that have gone on and changed sports forever so uh there's a lot of really

00:59:53cool hidden messages in there you know the handshake between bowerman and phil uh to really start you

00:59:58know the company nike um the the uh the change over time uh some recognition of even like the

01:00:06olympics we all remember michael johnson wearing the the uh gold cleats in the olympics there's some

01:00:10gold in in the uniform there's you know mountains that tie to you know his trips overseas and then even

01:00:16here um you know in in oregon so really cool story behind it and somebody that deserves a lot of credit

01:00:22and attention for where our program's at right now oregon is the only school that i have no problem

01:00:28doing these you shake your head walker it's the only school you don't want to say oregon

01:00:32he's oregon it sounds funny i'm about to play it's the only school that can do these trendy fancy

01:00:40electric uniforms i let them get away with it i hate it everywhere else i hate getting rid of the

01:00:44traditional oregon is almost traditional of being untraditional obviously army navy but all these other

01:00:50schools that change the uniforms week to week garbage so what should i say to that dave

01:04:23bulls and his philosophy on pass interference holding calls is those calls should call themselves

01:04:30like the interference call on the jacksonville jaguars yesterday that that is not an obvious

01:04:36pi call where we're all sitting in a bar saying that's pi or that's holding you can't miss the

01:04:43obvious penalties you can't miss that holding call at texas a&m notre dame you can't make that call

01:04:49against arkansas state you can't do it and you can't make those calls unless they're obvious i

01:06:13out as the head coach of the bruins as they absolutely get embarrassed once again this

01:06:18weekend uh bloody how are we feeling on the foster news you've been very on record you want this

01:06:24program to hit rock bottom to start the bounce back up yeah and they hit rock bottom on a friday night

01:06:31big 10 network nobody really watching everyone asleep waking up seeing that they got dominated by new

01:06:37mexico the final score new mexico team though bloody tough no no no no don't let him do that

01:06:43i will let him do that because people forgot i'm a big jason that guy i'm a big jack the ripper lane

01:06:47guy i'm a scotterie humphrey guy and they were able to dominate on the ground without scotterie

01:06:51humphrey even playing but he's not doing it for you he's doing it for himself now i don't care who do

01:06:55it i i just do it for for me not for thee and i'm just saying straight up new mexico should have won

01:07:02that game 49 to 7 it was an absolute bloodbath physical dominance in the trenches t bob you

01:07:38every available job on the market until he got the ohio state offense coordinator job in february of

01:07:432024 leaving us hung out to dry and having to hire deshaun foster having to when tony white was available

01:07:50and willing to take the head coaching job and we opted not to do that i am one of the 10 remaining

01:07:56ucla fans i am a diehard i am very hungry to get back on tears there

01:08:04there's there's no tears to be had there is just there's just passion because i see all you guys all

01:08:13my friends the mississippi states the michigans the the lsu's the victory yes the big three you guys get

01:08:20have gotten happy moments in years past i haven't got one since ucla came back to beat washington

01:08:25state 67 to 63 i haven't had a reason to care about this football team because chip kelly didn't

01:08:34care about deshaun foster didn't care about and i just want to get back on track and i'm tired of

01:12:50in the coaching ranks so i i don't know you know virginia tech status with nil money how rich poor

01:12:59school i'll say this going to a football game there and a passionate fan base it doesn't get better

01:13:05obviously enter sandman you can walk to the stadium right on the center of campus and they care and

01:13:12they'll be there so it's the opposite of ucla in a sense i you you're going to get a passionate

01:13:17fan base with the history there who wants to win i just don't know that they get the nil if you don't

01:13:27tech they desperately need tony elliott to succeed at virginia this year because that virginia job comes

01:13:32open i think that's actually a more attractive job to coaches than virginia tech would be 20 years ago

01:13:37virginia tech would be a more attractive job but now with the sec looking to expand and looking at

01:13:42sniffing around north carolina and virginia i think they would take virginia over virginia tech

01:14:09was zach bryan trying to fight gavin adcock at adcock's own concert climbing over a barbed wire

01:14:16fence it it sounds insane but it happened and we've actually got gavin right here on wake up barstool

01:14:22to talk about it gavin what's up bro what's going on man oh not much living the dream

01:14:27look at our guy sitting there rocking chair on the porch uh gavin what what what the hell was that

01:14:35this weekend did you have any idea that jack bryan was going to show up and do that

01:14:39well when we got to the festival some of the people that ran the festival said which one what you know

01:14:45zach bryan said he's going to come by today he lives somewhere around here and i was like all right

01:14:51that's fine i ain't got nothing to do with that guy and he comes in with his two security guards

01:14:58big six four guys real tough guy you know and uh sees me standing between the buses we're about to

01:15:05do a cold plunge he said some cutty stuff walked on and uh then proceeded to linger around the bus for

01:15:15about an hour and a half while we were sitting in there watching some college football

01:15:20uh and he finally left and then i was outside smoking one and he pulled by in a truck and then

01:15:29made this big old fence situation and uh i wasn't gonna fight him because i had a show to play i had

01:15:37business take care of hundreds of thousands of dollars on the line uh 10 000 of his hometown fans

01:15:44out there screaming my name and screaming f him uh that was which i thought was hilarious

01:15:51and uh so yeah i just basically talked uh some dirt with him until he uh raged out and climbed over

01:16:00the fence how does this be like well he's not my biggest my he's probably not my biggest fan of vice

01:16:08versa obviously brown chicken fries ex-girlfriend works here they had a big falling out i think the guy's

01:16:13a psychopath how did your beef with him come about like why where where's this stemming from

01:16:20i saw a 14 year old girl post complaining that she didn't get to sign or take a picture with zach when

01:16:29he just uh blew on by while he was heading to his car at a concert and he went in the comments and went

01:16:37off on her and said you're not entitled to anything when i play a two and a half hour show this that

01:16:43get off my d and uh so i just stepped in i was like why do people idolize you why do people

01:16:53even like come to your shows or if they're not a good person and obviously if you can't handle

01:17:00criticism from a 14 year old girl you don't deserve the spotlight that you have so uh i got asked that

01:17:08question a few times i doubled down and then uh i guess it i guess he'd been sitting at home twiddling

01:17:13his thumbs thinking about it for too long so next question and i you're a bigger guy you play d1

01:17:20football went viral for chugging a beer on top of a moving bus i don't know we have that video that's

01:17:26insane but playing georgia southern got booted started this career tougher guy than me i still when

01:17:33i saw zach now if i'm understanding he's in the venue so he had plenty of time to actually fight

01:17:39you or attack you do whatever in the venue he waits till he's outside but how do you jump a barbed

01:17:45wire fence was he like bleeding when he landed oh he ripped his pants when he got over he got halfway

01:17:52over and his pants got caught and uh there was seven security guards standing around not for only

01:17:59for my safety but for his safety and if i would have took off after him or he would have took off

01:18:06after me the the security guards were just going to grab us and hem us up and not let us do anything

01:18:10plus i was just being the bigger man you know he seems uh y'all like to call him the smallest man in

01:18:15the world he seems he seems to wear that fucking pretty good now do you care because i obviously he's

01:18:25i don't like the guy i've seen the comments there there are some being like yeah well gavin was

01:18:32scared of him he got over he got over the fence he he walked away does that bother you just stick with

01:18:37the listen i can take this guy anytime i want to how big are you by the way i'm six foot 240 oh yeah

01:18:44so i mean this would have been a massacre man i'm i played nose guard which is the the toughest

01:18:52position on the field it's a train wreck every play um i'm not i'm not scared of a dude that's five

01:18:59eight uh maybe 200 pounds with a after jumping in the pool with a t-shirt on um it's

01:19:07but uh yeah i mean if he's in a weird way and we have you on i don't want to just talk about

01:19:17uh zach about you your career is exploding this actually in show business any publicity is good

01:19:25publicity people who may not i mean he's a mega star you can say whatever you want about the guy

01:19:29but he's huge in the country world right now so i mean if you're cutting a promo for your own career

01:19:35this was this a blessing in disguise uh everything that happens uh that's bad or positive for media is a
