00:00:00What's up, y'all? Welcome in Wake Up Barstool Friday.
00:00:05Myself, Michael Kadick, Dana Beers, Megan making money in the studio.
00:00:09Recap all the playoff action from last night.
00:00:11Then Super Bowl winning coach Doug Peterson joins the program.
00:00:14We'll break down Thursday Night Football, preview the weekend that will be.
00:00:17We've got to dive into the film room.
00:00:19We've got to go to the Money Corner.
00:00:21We've got Dan Hurley stopping by to talk a little basketball.
00:00:24Let's get it on.
00:00:25Friday, Wake Up Barstool raindrops.
00:00:28Bang!
00:00:55What's up, y'all? Welcome in Wake Up Barstool.
00:00:59A little out of breath.
00:01:00Had to run from the court there.
00:01:03I'm so angry. I didn't hit that shot.
00:01:05What's going on, though? T-Bob A. Bear, Michael Kadick, Dana Beers,
00:01:08and our girl Megan making money behind the glass, say.
00:01:11Guys, we've got a lot to get to. We just teased it.
00:01:14But...
00:01:15But first...
00:01:16It's Friday.
00:01:17But first...
00:01:18But first, Michael Kadick has come bearing gifts.
00:01:21What's that in your hand, Mikey?
00:01:22Smelly sauce!
00:01:23Cheers!
00:01:24It's a smelling salt, guys. It's a smelling salt disclaimer.
00:01:39Give me it again.
00:01:40I feel like my brain's on fire right now.
00:01:42Oh, I love it. I love it. I love it.
00:01:44I'm losing all senses.
00:01:47I love it.
00:01:49My eyes are watering.
00:01:50So much.
00:01:51Friday, baby.
00:01:52I love you so much.
00:01:53The ball!
00:01:54Could you imagine hitting that and then just throwing an 80-yard ball like Rodgers did the
00:01:58other day?
00:01:59What a time to be alive.
00:02:01And look, guys.
00:02:02Basically, the feeling that we just got...
00:02:04My right eye is just really leaking, huh?
00:02:06The feeling that we just got...
00:02:08Very indicative of many of you watching playoff baseball yesterday.
00:02:14It was absolutely fantastic, dude.
00:02:16Electric.
00:02:17There really is nothing like high-leverage postseason baseball when you have a rooting interest.
00:02:23Wrigley Field was magical.
00:02:25There was some danger late.
00:02:27Boys.
00:02:28How about them Cubs?
00:02:29The home town.
00:02:30Woo!
00:02:31Boy, the Cubbies moving on.
00:02:32I know.
00:02:33Give me your biggest takeaways from last night.
00:02:35Um...
00:02:36Schlittler?
00:02:37Schlittler.
00:02:38The pitcher for the New York Yankees is electric.
00:02:41That's true.
00:02:42Never heard of him before, but he pitched eight full innings, twelve strikeouts.
00:02:46I mean, unbelievable.
00:02:47Okay, so how about this?
00:02:49Some numbers on Schlittler, because there was some debate.
00:02:54If you watched the Barstool Gambling stream over there in the New York office, there was
00:02:58some debate as to whether or not this was an all-time Yankee postseason performance,
00:03:03right?
00:03:04It has to be, right?
00:03:05Well, look.
00:03:06I'm not gonna pretend like I care enough about these teams or that franchise to weigh
00:03:11in on that, but there are some objectively absurd numbers to show how good Schlittler was last
00:03:18night.
00:03:19So, first off, eight innings, twelve Ks, no walks.
00:03:21Eight innings in a day and age when nobody goes that deep anymore, but how about this?
00:03:26Um, the twelve Ks are a Yankees postseason rookie record.
00:03:30Wow.
00:03:31And I thought this was absolutely insane, but I double checked this and I kept coming up
00:03:34with this.
00:03:35Eight innings, allowing zero runs, striking out at least twelve.
00:03:38This is the first time in postseason history that a player has had that stat line.
00:03:42What?
00:03:43That's what they said on Schlittler.
00:03:44Look, the Yankees better just be happy.
00:03:47They gotta be happy.
00:03:48Oh, yeah.
00:03:49This is not a time to nitpick.
00:03:51Oh, no.
00:03:52For sure.
00:03:53And I think it was more like Mets fans and Red Sox fans trying to nitpick a bit because
00:03:57Schlittler, to come out, I mean, this is a man who started this season in double A.
00:04:01Yeah.
00:04:02Started this season in double A and now everything on the line in Yankee Stadium, the most storied rivalry
00:04:07in all of MLB baseball.
00:04:10It is Schlittler putting together an all-time good performance, unprecedented even, to send
00:04:15them in to the ALDS.
00:04:17So, that was absolutely, that was electric last night.
00:04:21Yeah.
00:04:22And then if you're the Red Sox, you've led the league in errors this season and your
00:04:25defense in that fourth inning.
00:04:26Yeah, that one inning, they just blew up.
00:04:28It blew up.
00:04:29It was kind of like the Cubs.
00:04:31Every time you would look up, you'd see them making a good defensive play.
00:04:35Yeah.
00:04:36Yes.
00:04:37It was the complete opposite for the Sox.
00:04:38It was, every time you looked up, especially in that fourth inning, something bad was happening.
00:04:43Yeah, it just wasn't good.
00:04:44And then the error at first base, right here.
00:04:47Or no, no, no.
00:04:48Now, I'll say this about the Red Sox.
00:04:51This was a vibes team.
00:04:53Once they sent Devers to the Giants, you didn't really expect a whole lot.
00:04:58But they had one of the best records in the league.
00:05:03Once they, I think they were 40 and 43 in June.
00:05:08And they went 49 and 30 to finish out the year.
00:05:11The inverse of the Mets.
00:05:12Which people did not really expect out of this Red Sox team.
00:05:15They have some young guys.
00:05:16They got Roman Anthony.
00:05:17They got a couple good pitchers coming.
00:05:19It's, to me, I'm a half glass full guy with Red Sox.
00:05:24Yeah, of course.
00:05:25Is that how you, that's right, right?
00:05:26Glass half full.
00:05:27It doesn't matter.
00:05:28Half glass full.
00:05:29What did I say?
00:05:30Half glass full?
00:05:31Yeah, or half glass full.
00:05:32It's the same thing either way.
00:05:33I was so close.
00:05:34No, you're on a roll, dude.
00:05:35Keep going.
00:05:36I was doing well and I had it right there.
00:05:37Keep going.
00:05:38Did I say half glass?
00:05:39It doesn't matter, dude.
00:05:40Who cares?
00:05:41Yeah, you had me at half glass.
00:05:42I try to be a glass half full guy with the teams in the city that I support.
00:05:47With this team, you didn't really expect them to do much.
00:05:50You were just happy they were there.
00:05:52Listen.
00:05:53Did you give yourself over a little bit, though, after they won game one?
00:05:55Yes.
00:05:56And the Yankees, I believe.
00:05:58Open that door in your heart just a tiny bit.
00:06:00Correct me if I'm wrong.
00:06:01I don't know who's going to correct me because I don't know if this is right.
00:06:04But from what I hear, the Yankees were the first team to come back in this playoff scenario.
00:06:10I think.
00:06:11I think.
00:06:12Oh, and the new three-game wild card.
00:06:14I believe.
00:06:15Yes.
00:06:16Megan, you are a bit of a base.
00:06:19You're definitely a stitch head.
00:06:20You are obsessed with baseball.
00:06:22You bet it all the time.
00:06:23What are your biggest takeaways from Yankees Red Sox?
00:06:25All right.
00:06:26So, Yankees Red Sox.
00:06:27Again, that performance.
00:06:28I love betting on rookies and the fact that he went out there and just shut everyone down
00:06:33was insane.
00:06:34I was hoping to see a little bit more sparks, you know, seeing Bregman on the Red Sox.
00:06:39I was hoping for a little excitement there, but hey, the Yankees haven't been in the situation
00:06:46in a minute, so it's about time for them to potentially get another ring.
00:06:50Ah, gross.
00:06:5112Ks.
00:06:52No walks.
00:06:53Unreal.
00:06:54Out of Schlittler.
00:06:55I just really hate the Yankees.
00:06:56Lights couldn't be brighter.
00:06:57I do too.
00:06:58I'm not like a massive Red Sox fan.
00:07:00I would say I was, back in 2007, like those years when they had Big Poppy and Manny,
00:07:06that's when I was obsessed with the Red Sox.
00:07:08I'm kind of like, I'll check in in the playoffs.
00:07:10I don't really watch too much of the regular season, but I still have that hatred for the
00:07:15Yankees any time they come around.
00:07:17It's just one of those, ugh, the fan base, man.
00:07:19And then every time I see Garrett Cole's face, I just want to punch it.
00:07:22Yeah, sure.
00:07:23So, I got the exact stat, Dana.
00:07:26Yeah, it was awesome.
00:07:27I got the exact stat, and you were correct.
00:07:29So, this is the 16th three-game wildcard series, and this is the first of the 16 in which
00:07:35the winner of game one has not gone on to advance.
00:07:38Yeah.
00:07:39You know, it's not the best for the Red Sox fans to hear, but it's also, you know, it's
00:07:42two games.
00:07:43It's not like they blew a 3-0 move or anything like that.
00:07:46Yeah.
00:07:47But, unbelievable catch here from Ryan McMahon, third base.
00:07:51But.
00:07:52I would say, I would say that was a necessary dive.
00:07:55I don't know if Derek Jeter's dive was necessary back in the day.
00:07:58I believe that one was.
00:08:00So, Yankees.
00:08:01Go Cubs, go.
00:08:02Yeah, I was about to say, dude.
00:08:03Go Cubs, go.
00:08:04Fly the W. Wrigley was electric yesterday.
00:08:08Everything on the line.
00:08:09Cubs, Padres, and look, another command performance out of the Cubs defense.
00:08:14Felt like Dansby Swanson was everywhere.
00:08:17That dude.
00:08:18I'm not going to lie.
00:08:19I was kind of hoping for some sparks in the top of the ninth.
00:08:22Padres had, I think, one out, two on.
00:08:24And I was hoping just for a little extra baseball.
00:08:28I thought that would have been fun.
00:08:30I'm the anti-bandwagon when it comes to the Cubs.
00:08:32I don't want to just hop on.
00:08:33Obviously, I'm an Astros fan, but I was kind of low-key pulling for a Padres
00:08:38little upset moment.
00:08:40You got that most wonderful of high-leverage baseball moments where it got very sketchy.
00:08:48And it could have gotten sketchier, right?
00:08:50Actually, I don't want to talk about the ball yet because that's controversy.
00:08:53I want to start with what I think are the positives here and the more interesting storylines,
00:08:57more exciting storylines.
00:08:59And for me, the guy that I'm zeroed in on is PCA.
00:09:01I mean, you see his stat line right there.
00:09:03Three of four last night.
00:09:04And that's coming into the game 0 for 6 with 5Ks, swinging at everything.
00:09:09And I keep going back to this piece that he wrote for the Players' Tribune right before
00:09:15the playoffs started where he acknowledges, look, he's been slumping.
00:09:18He's been grinding.
00:09:19He's felt lost.
00:09:21He's been trying to find himself.
00:09:23And it was him watching old YouTube videos where he felt like he finally had.
00:09:28Watching the highlights of the 2016 Cubs World Series.
00:09:31On watching Rizzo when he came to retire at the park and then mortality that he achieved.
00:09:35And PCA wrote about, look, man, like, I think I'm destined for this.
00:09:39You know, I think I'm made for October.
00:09:41I'm built to succeed here.
00:09:42And through two games, he had not.
00:09:45He had failed mightily.
00:09:46And yet, game three, when the stakes were the highest, the most was on the line,
00:09:51what did he do?
00:09:52He locked in and he put together his best game in weeks.
00:09:56Defensively, offensively, everything.
00:09:58And that, guys, is what I love about sports.
00:10:01The human narratives when everything is against you.
00:10:04Everything's going poorly and a guy just finds a way to rise above it all.
00:10:09Fantastic job, Pete Crow Armstrong.
00:10:11Another guy I want to talk about.
00:10:13Also, just a great American baseball name.
00:10:15That heartthrob.
00:10:16True.
00:10:17The heartthrob.
00:10:18Just solid.
00:10:19Shortstop.
00:10:20Dansby Swanson.
00:10:21What a name.
00:10:22I mean, you want to talk about the full package on that guy?
00:10:24I mean, his hair, his beard, the way he rolls his pants up.
00:10:28Yeah.
00:10:29His fielding abilities.
00:10:30That guy, no wonder he bagged Mallory Swanson.
00:10:34I mean, jeez, dude, that guy is an absolute animal and I love him.
00:10:38Stunned.
00:10:39Stunned.
00:10:40Him and Horner, right there, the corner right that is.
00:10:43Not the corner, I guess.
00:10:44The, I don't know.
00:10:45The apex.
00:10:46The apex of the infield.
00:10:47You're a football guy.
00:10:48The apex of the infield between those two.
00:10:51The middle.
00:10:52Unbelievable.
00:10:53Is middle the word you're looking at?
00:10:54Yeah, middle plays.
00:10:55Middle plays as well.
00:10:56The apex of the infield.
00:10:57Very sexy and very talented of the middle, huh?
00:10:59My main takeaway is I can't wait to be in Wrigleyville for the playoffs.
00:11:03Saturday.
00:11:04I'll be there.
00:11:05I just can't wait.
00:11:06Hammering beers.
00:11:07Listen, man.
00:11:08Jamison Tyon said in an interview that, first of all, a close personal friend.
00:11:13I met him once.
00:11:14We talked for like two minutes.
00:11:16I know.
00:11:18We're boys.
00:11:19Fun fact.
00:11:20He said that it was the loudest he's ever been in a baseball park ever.
00:11:26He's been playing for a while.
00:11:27I just want to go.
00:11:28I need to go to a game.
00:11:30Dude, it's unbelievable.
00:11:31I've never been to a Cubs playoff game.
00:11:33I would love, love, love to see Wrigleyville in this environment.
00:11:36The hot dogs.
00:11:37Well, of course the hot dogs.
00:11:38You don't have to tell me about the hot dogs.
00:11:40And there's everything.
00:11:41You just dress it all up yourself.
00:11:42You know what?
00:11:43I don't love the Chicago dogs.
00:11:45You don't love the Chicago dogs?
00:11:46There's too much going on.
00:11:47Have you had the Maxwell Street Polish?
00:11:48No.
00:11:49Oh.
00:11:50What's the Maxwell Street Polish?
00:11:52It's the sausage and you put mustard.
00:11:54Oh.
00:11:55God, it's too early for this, dude.
00:11:57I can't stop thinking about food.
00:12:00I know.
00:12:01All I want is the meat.
00:12:02Actually, last week I had the spinach and feta.
00:12:06Freaking.
00:12:07Oh, I almost swore there.
00:12:09I almost swore.
00:12:10That was good.
00:12:11I had the hash brown mix and I had spinach and feta.
00:12:14This week we're going meat lovers.
00:12:15We're going meat lovers.
00:12:16I've been giving the meat lovers three extra eggs.
00:12:19Over easy.
00:12:20No tomatoes.
00:12:21For like the last three months, Dana has just been getting the spinach and feta.
00:12:25Who does that as a big guy?
00:12:26I don't know.
00:12:27So today we're both getting the meat lovers skill and I can't wait.
00:12:30All right.
00:12:31Fine.
00:12:32This is an excellent time, guys, for a shameless plug.
00:12:35You see it on the bottom there.
00:12:36We just launched a new show called The Big Boys Club.
00:12:39The Big Boys Club.
00:12:40And it's us three.
00:12:41It's Ella Griff.
00:12:42New episodes dropping every Thursday.
00:12:44Episode one just came out.
00:12:45You can find that on the main YouTube channel.
00:12:47I have so much fun recording that.
00:12:49Did anybody watch?
00:12:50Did y'all watch Ted Lasso at all?
00:12:51No.
00:12:52It's whatever.
00:12:55But they have that cheer.
00:12:56It's like, he's here.
00:12:57He's there.
00:12:58He's every effing way.
00:12:59Roarky.
00:13:00That was Dansby Swanson.
00:13:01Yeah.
00:13:02That's his defense.
00:13:03That's the level he played at.
00:13:04Cubs advance.
00:13:05Now going to take on the Brewers.
00:13:07Another matchup rife with storylines.
00:13:10Not only are they geographically close, but Craig Council.
00:13:13The man who kind of revitalized Brewers.
00:13:16Five playoffs in six years before negotiating a secret deal with Chicago to come be their manager.
00:13:21Now he goes back.
00:13:22Yeah.
00:13:23It's going to be a good one.
00:13:25And then finally the oft ignored series in this battle of giants.
00:13:30The Tigers send the Cinderella Guardians home in what has to be one of the oddest culminations of a storyline that we've ever seen.
00:13:39Right?
00:13:40Yeah.
00:13:41Where the Tigers spend all this time collapsing.
00:13:42The Guardians go on a mathematically improbable run.
00:13:46Yeah.
00:13:47And then it just completely flips at three games.
00:13:49Destroys them.
00:13:50Yeah.
00:13:51Like two months of everything.
00:13:52Two months of magic erased in a manner of three days.
00:13:55And watching the Hope just tear apart Tate.
00:13:59Ohio's Tate.
00:14:00Yeah.
00:14:01Our own Ohio's Tate.
00:14:02Seeing the Hope just leave his eyes is something so sad, but so satisfying for some reason.
00:14:07That's why you love baseball.
00:14:08The Guardians completed the largest comeback to win a division in MLB history and promptly got bounced from the playoffs by the team that they came back against.
00:14:17Yeah.
00:14:18That's crazy.
00:14:19It is.
00:14:20Again, you can, this is why sports are great.
00:14:22This is why they will survive the AI entertainment revolution.
00:14:25Yep.
00:14:26Because these stories that come about when you have all these human beings battling and all the variables involved means that like the craziest things happen.
00:14:34So shout out to the Tigers, but you know that has to feel incredible.
00:14:38I got a question for you.
00:14:39Yeah.
00:14:40Do you think Detroit is low key becoming a little wagon of a city?
00:14:45No.
00:14:46Sports wise, maybe.
00:14:47Not anything.
00:14:48Lions are sick.
00:14:49I didn't say that.
00:14:50Sports wise.
00:14:51I'm not talking about the agriculture.
00:14:52What, are we just crapping on Detroit?
00:14:54They suck.
00:14:55Come on, man.
00:14:56No, the sports are good people up there.
00:14:58The Tigers are good.
00:14:59Tigers are good.
00:15:00The Lions.
00:15:02It's insane.
00:15:03The Pistons are coming up a little bit.
00:15:05The Pistons are coming up.
00:15:06I know.
00:15:07I'm telling you.
00:15:08This city.
00:15:09They're breeding winners now.
00:15:10Now, when we were growing up, the Red Wings were always incredible.
00:15:12I love you guys.
00:15:13Sorry.
00:15:14When we were growing up, the Red Wings were incredible.
00:15:17They were always the most dominant team.
00:15:19Oh, yeah.
00:15:20Same.
00:15:21I'm planning on getting into hockey this year.
00:15:22Mm-hmm.
00:15:23Are the Red Wings good right now?
00:15:25I don't think so.
00:15:26I don't think so either.
00:15:27Either of the Blackhawks.
00:15:28No, I know the Blackhawks.
00:15:29No, I know the Blackhawks are bad.
00:15:30But if I'm going to adopt the Cubs, a good team that I'm diving into, then I have to balance
00:15:33it by adopting the Blackhawks.
00:15:35Fair.
00:15:36So that I'm not just full, like, I'm a Man United fan out of nowhere.
00:15:40Like the Yankees.
00:15:41I think the good people of Detroit that Michael Kadik absolutely hates, apparently.
00:15:46I love them.
00:15:47I love them.
00:15:48I think they deserve some type of playoff run here with the Tigers.
00:15:53The good people up there deserve something.
00:15:57They need it.
00:15:59It's a great city of great people.
00:16:01The Lions let them down the last couple years.
00:16:04Let the Tigers just go on a little run.
00:16:06Hell yeah.
00:16:07Don't do it.
00:16:08Either way, playoff baseball already living up to the billing.
00:16:12Plenty more coming up, including more Octigli action.
00:16:16Coming up next, we've got Super Bowl winning coach Doug Peterson joining the show.
00:16:20We're going to bring him up a chair, and we're about to talk some football.
00:16:24So keep it locked right here.
00:16:25This is Wake Up Barstool on FS1.
00:16:28What's happening, y'all?
00:16:37Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool.
00:16:38Look at this, dude.
00:16:39Big Boy Friday just got a little bigger.
00:16:41He's in incredible shape.
00:16:42It's a weird way to set this up.
00:16:44Super Bowl winning head coach Doug Peterson joining the show to talk all things football,
00:16:49life, everything.
00:16:50Coach, what's going on, man?
00:16:51Hey, man.
00:16:52It's great.
00:16:53Everything's going well.
00:16:54Thank you guys for having me here.
00:16:55It's been fun these last couple of days.
00:16:57Yeah, man.
00:16:58A couple of Louisiana people here with me and Meg, of course.
00:17:02Coach, he went to ULM before it was ULM.
00:17:05Legendary.
00:17:06And then ended up starting his coach crew up there in Calvary Baptist.
00:17:10How about it, Coach?
00:17:11Tell all the people, you still got love for the 318?
00:17:13I do.
00:17:14My cell phone is still 318.
00:17:16My whole family is 318.
00:17:17And we still have a lot of love.
00:17:19We got a lot of family, a lot of friends still there, and go back as often as we can.
00:17:23Hell yeah, man.
00:17:24So, in my hand I have some smelling salts.
00:17:27We were ripping these off the start of the show.
00:17:30You had the kicker Myers from Seattle rip it right before he hit a game when he kicked.
00:17:35You saw Aaron Rodgers rip it right before the ADR touchdown.
00:17:37Do you have any smelling salt infused memories?
00:17:41I had a player when I was offensive coordinator at Kansas City and fullback.
00:17:47Of course.
00:17:48Of course.
00:17:49Yeah.
00:17:50He would literally take, I don't know how many of those things.
00:17:53He'd take 15, 20 of them, crack them, put them in a empty Gatorade bottle, tape it up and put like a skull and crossbones on it.
00:18:01Oh, yeah.
00:18:02And then walk up and down the sideline and he would come from behind me and shove it in my face.
00:18:07Oh, wait.
00:18:08He would get people.
00:18:09Oh, yeah.
00:18:10He would get people.
00:18:11But he would do it in the locker room.
00:18:12That's so awesome.
00:18:13And he would get me on the sideline.
00:18:14Wow.
00:18:15Oh, my gosh.
00:18:16Just straight to my brain.
00:18:17That's awesome.
00:18:18So, you were O.C. at the time.
00:18:19Is that under Andy Reid?
00:18:20Is that to help play calling?
00:18:21Oh, it just clears your head.
00:18:23I could run down on a kickoff.
00:18:24That's for sure.
00:18:25To start the game.
00:18:26Hell yes, dude.
00:18:27Okay.
00:18:28So, look.
00:18:29We got a lot to get to.
00:18:30But last night, the Niners, against all odds.
00:18:33And, Coach, this is something that you can, I think, really probably speak on here, which
00:18:37is as the layman, we sit here and we look at things on paper and we say, in what world
00:18:42could the San Francisco 49ers win this game?
00:18:44Right?
00:18:45They have an injury list that is longer than Santa's.
00:18:49They're on the road.
00:18:50The Rams are one of the best teams in the NFL.
00:18:53And yet, they come out, they're dominating.
00:18:56Mack Jones kicks ass.
00:18:57They get a 14-0 lead and they find a way to win.
00:19:00How do these NFL teams, when it appears like they have no chance, how do y'all find a way?
00:19:06I mean, hell, you did a Super Bowl with a backup quarterback.
00:19:08Yeah.
00:19:09It's just crazy.
00:19:10You know, I think there's a lot of belief on a roster that it doesn't matter who's playing.
00:19:14It's the next man up mentality.
00:19:15And that's the way the NFL is.
00:19:17And it's the way it is right now.
00:19:18But, you know, I had Mack Jones in Jacksonville.
00:19:21Oh, really?
00:19:22We had him in 2024.
00:19:23He played for us when Trevor Lawrence was hurt.
00:19:27And so, a lot of history with Mack Jones.
00:19:29I like the kid.
00:19:30He's smart.
00:19:31He's intelligent.
00:19:32He's athletic enough to escape a pocket.
00:19:33And you saw what he did in that first half of that game last night.
00:19:35Yeah.
00:19:36He was on point.
00:19:37He was very accurate.
00:19:38Of course, you know, Mr. McCaffrey in the backfield doesn't hurt either to have him back
00:19:43there.
00:19:44I think that's what you're seeing, especially in that game last night, just how well they
00:19:47played against a good defense.
00:19:48The Rams have a really good defense.
00:19:49They got a really good pass rush.
00:19:51And, you know, he made some really good smart decisions.
00:19:54I also credit, you know, Kyle Shanahan, too, for play calling and allowing him to get the
00:19:58ball out of his hand.
00:19:59Well, and that's where I kind of wanted to go next because last night, and maybe it's
00:20:04less so with a guy like Stafford who, you know, Hall of Famer brings decade plus to bear
00:20:09experience-wise.
00:20:10But it did feel at points last night like you were really seeing that chess match between
00:20:14McVay and Shanahan and two guys that have kind of come up at the same time and been the
00:20:20young phenoms and now are, you know, known quantities.
00:20:24How much of that success that the Niners were having do you attribute to game plan, coaching,
00:20:30and play calling?
00:20:31Yeah, I think you have to give credit where credit's due.
00:20:33And I think it starts with the coaches and I think it starts with Shanahan as a play caller
00:20:37and really understanding his personnel and who he has available and what they're trying
00:20:41to get done, again, against a good football team on the road, you know, in L.A.
00:20:46So there's a lot that goes into that, but then the players have to buy into that plan,
00:20:51obviously, during the week, go execute it on game day.
00:20:54And you saw that.
00:20:55You saw that with the Niners yesterday and they came away with the win.
00:20:59It got close at the end, but, you know, it was a great road win for them.
00:21:04And, you know, it just kind of, I think to me that sometimes, you know, you mentioned Shanahan
00:21:11versus McVay.
00:21:12Well, those are two offensive guys.
00:21:14Yeah.
00:21:15And they're two sharp guys.
00:21:16Yeah.
00:21:17And, you know, they put together great plans.
00:21:20And I know Stafford is, what, 17 years or so in the National Football League.
00:21:24And I think he's really playing extremely well.
00:21:27It's crazy.
00:21:28I thought he was hurt.
00:21:29They told us his back was broken the whole offseason.
00:21:31All right.
00:21:32He's just kicking ass.
00:21:33Maybe that was just a ploy just to, you know, simmer down on the Rams.
00:21:36But, yeah, Shanahan did a great job yesterday.
00:21:39You see a lot of these quarterbacks that kind of just need to find the right fit, whether
00:21:44it's Sam Darnold or Baker Mayfield.
00:21:46It's not just in football.
00:21:48It's in a lot of sports.
00:21:49You just need to find the right fit.
00:21:50Have you noticed that a lot just in your time in the NFL that there's some of these
00:21:54guys that maybe they're buried or they're in the wrong situation.
00:21:57And then when they do get in the right situation, they ball out.
00:22:00Have you had any specific examples you can think of in your time?
00:22:04Well, to answer that question, I agree with that.
00:22:06I think sometimes, you know, players need a fresh start, I think.
00:22:11And especially at the quarterback position, I think sometimes you get drafted.
00:22:14And I was talking about this yesterday a little bit, you know, teams that need quarterbacks
00:22:20and they're drafting high probably don't have a very good football team to start with.
00:22:24So they're drafting that quarterback to go to a team that doesn't have a very good roster
00:22:28right now.
00:22:29And so they get thrown out there and a year or two or three goes by and they haven't filled
00:22:35in the pieces yet to make them successful.
00:22:37And then the quarterback doesn't have success.
00:22:39So now we kind of kick him to the curb, you know, and another team picks him up.
00:22:44Right.
00:22:45You know, Daniel Jones is a great.
00:22:47I mean, yeah.
00:22:48Look, I got it right now.
00:22:49You're sporting the study.
00:22:50Shop at BarstoolSports.com?
00:22:52Yep.
00:22:53Store.BarstoolSports.com.
00:22:54Store.BarstoolSports.com.
00:22:55Get your Indiana Jones gear.
00:22:56Yeah.
00:22:57I mean, look, again.
00:22:58Great example.
00:22:59He was, he was, he had become a joke amongst like fan circles.
00:23:02Then he gets with Steichen and maybe the Colts kind of, you know, sometimes better be lucky
00:23:07than good.
00:23:08Anthony Richardson ends up getting hurt and you're kind of forced to Daniel Jones.
00:23:11And now he's having a bit of a, a renaissance.
00:23:14And, and we think.
00:23:15And Jonathan Taylor.
00:23:16Yes.
00:23:17Hurt.
00:23:18Yes.
00:23:19So he went to a team that was established, right?
00:23:20Yes.
00:23:21He had a great running back.
00:23:22Quentin Nelson.
00:23:23You know, stuff like that.
00:23:24I mean, those things help young quarterbacks and then change of scenery, change of uniform,
00:23:28change the colors, get with a different play caller, whatever it might be.
00:23:31And it's nothing against coaching.
00:23:32It's just, it's just sometimes you get a different, to your point, you get into a different
00:23:36system, a system that's more suited to your style of play.
00:23:40And you're seeing this with guys like Sam Darnold, you know, in Minnesota a year ago
00:23:44and what he did.
00:23:45And then he's been good in Seattle.
00:23:46He's been in Seattle.
00:23:47I mean, Geno Smith has bounced around and you look at Baker Mayfield and now Indiana Jones.
00:23:51Well, yeah, I was just thinking that last night with Mac Jones.
00:23:53I'm a massive Patriots fan and I always kind of thought he got a raw deal just because
00:23:58the situation he was in, he had two, it was at the time it was Joe Judge and Matt Patricia,
00:24:04awesome coaches, but it was just like a weird time where we didn't know the offensive coordinator
00:24:08was.
00:24:09He was just kind of thrown into this strange time after Tom Brady.
00:24:13And you see him now when he played for the Jaguars, he filled in for Lawrence.
00:24:16He played well last night.
00:24:17He played well.
00:24:18He's been playing well for the last couple of weeks.
00:24:20It's just like a lot of these guys just need a chance in the right fit in the right situation.
00:24:25And you'll see they'll contribute and play well.
00:24:28It's just, it's just interesting to think about like who else could be missing out.
00:24:32Yeah.
00:24:33How many have been lost to time?
00:24:34Right.
00:24:35Because it just never quite broke their way.
00:24:36Yeah.
00:24:37Yeah.
00:24:38How many have been lost to the team because are they almost the opposite of the high drafting
00:24:40team that you were describing where they were pretty solid everywhere else, but the quarterback
00:24:45position was kind of the net negative weighing them down.
00:24:48So now you get a pretty good guy in there and they're starting to take off a bit.
00:24:52It's about another guy that used to coach and they've had a surprise start of the season
00:24:56as well.
00:24:57That's the Jaguars and Trevor Lawrence.
00:24:58Obviously y'all had the very high water mark together and then it seemed like you maybe
00:25:02took a step back.
00:25:03Where are you at currently with what you've seen out of Trevor Lawrence?
00:25:07I've seen some really good things.
00:25:08You know, I, I, in, in Trevor's defense too, he's, he's now on his what third head coach
00:25:13in his young career.
00:25:14So kind of the same, same scenario that we're talking about, but he's, he's still on the
00:25:18same with the, with the Jaguars and the same team, but you know, new offensive coordinator,
00:25:23new head coach, you know, new schemes, he's learning.
00:25:26And, and what you're seeing is you're seeing the growth and development of, of a young
00:25:30quarterback.
00:25:31And, and he, this is what I love about Trevor.
00:25:34Trevor's got great athleticism.
00:25:36Yeah.
00:25:37Great athletic.
00:25:38He got a, got a really good strong arm, a pretty accurate passer.
00:25:41I think there's an area where he could, he could improve a little bit as with accuracy,
00:25:45but, but what you're seeing is him getting the ball out of his hand.
00:25:47He's making quick decisions and he was with us for three years.
00:25:51And I'm not, I'm not saying that, you know, we shaped him or anything, but we were able to coach
00:25:55him in a way that let's get the ball out of our hand.
00:25:58Let's, let's push it down the field a little bit, have some success.
00:26:00And you're seeing that right now with, with Trevor and he's done a nice job.
00:26:04Well, and, and, and you coach have been one of the coaches that during your career were granted
00:26:09the rank of like quarterback whisper and really knowing how to unlock that position, develop it.
00:26:14So I guess I have a bit of a two part question here.
00:26:18I'll start with this first one.
00:26:19When you look at the traits over time, almost regardless of era that you think create a successful quarterback,
00:26:25what do you think those would be?
00:26:27I think you got to have a guy that's, you got to make, you got to make great decisions.
00:26:32You got to be, you got to make great decisions.
00:26:34Be, you know, is it going to be perfect every time?
00:26:36No, make good decisions.
00:26:38You do have to have some accuracy with your throws.
00:26:41I do believe you got to have the accuracy, right?
00:26:43And then, and then, and then just overall, you know, kind of a, kind of a killer instinct
00:26:48at that position, which is kind of, you know, like the intangible part, right?
00:26:52It's, it's, it's built into you.
00:26:54It's an innate sort of instinct that you have and, and, and the great quarterbacks have that.
00:26:59And, and, you know, I played with Dan Marino.
00:27:01I played with, with Brett Favre, obviously I, I, you know, Jim McMahon was a, was a teammate of mine.
00:27:05And, you know, and then I've been able to coach guys like Donovan McNabb, Trevor Lawrence, you know,
00:27:10I was with Alex Smith in Kansas city and all those guys had that unique trait to lead their football team.
00:27:15And I think that's something that, that, that stands out with all of those guys and, and the ability,
00:27:20and doesn't have to be a rah-rah guy.
00:27:22You don't have to stand up and be a big speech or motivator guy, but if you're the first one in the building,
00:27:27if they see you study, if they see you work, if they see you play hurt, you know, banged up, you know,
00:27:32because it's a, we're seeing it now with quarterbacks, right?
00:27:36Matt Jones was, he was beat up last night.
00:27:39He got beat up last night.
00:27:40You know, he's, he's, he's, he's sore.
00:27:42He's got a couple of days to rest now.
00:27:43But, um, I think those, those sort of traits in a quarterback, you know,
00:27:48being able to make good decisions, be accurate, be on time with the football.
00:27:52Um, and, and then, and then really good coaching around you.
00:27:56You can, you can have a great career.
00:27:57Um, maybe moving outside of quarterback a little bit coach, uh, as there always are.
00:28:03There are a lot of AJ Brown headlines.
00:28:05I mean, you know, you have a premier wide receiver and look when the Eagles have needed to throw the ball this year.
00:28:09Look at the Rams game.
00:28:10They did.
00:28:11And AJ was huge, but he wants the damn ball a little more than he's getting it.
00:28:15Now.
00:28:16Uh, you're a head coach.
00:28:17You're trying to manage these alpha personalities against one another.
00:28:21How do you handle your receiver being a bit disgruntled while the team is having success?
00:28:26Well, you gotta keep, you gotta keep the thing right in front of the football team.
00:28:30And the thing is we're four and oh, we're undefeated.
00:28:33It doesn't, it's, and it's not about one guy.
00:28:36And now I can, I can appreciate and understand where AJ is coming from.
00:28:39But I think if you go back and look and I, and I saw something, read something somewhere.
00:28:43If you go back and look at the targets that are going his way, he's, he's being targeted.
00:28:48Right.
00:28:49He ball that Jalen hurts is throwing him the football, but it's just not being completed at this, at this time.
00:28:54So obviously they got some things to work out in their passing game and, and, and they will, and they always have.
00:28:59Um, and I can appreciate where we're, you know, listen, if you're one of the top players on offense, you definitely want the football.
00:29:06I'm sure Saquon wants the football.
00:29:08Yeah, for sure.
00:29:09You know, it's the attitudes that make them great.
00:29:12That's what makes them good.
00:29:13Yeah.
00:29:14It makes them great players on your team.
00:29:16And, but, but don't ever lose, don't ever lose sight of team.
00:29:19And, and the fact that they're four and oh, uh, they're world champions are coming off of that.
00:29:23And, um, you know, how can I be an asset to the football team and help us win and go five and oh, it's not going to get any easier this week against, uh, arguably the best cornerback in the world.
00:29:33And Pat Sertain, we'll see.
00:29:36I don't know.
00:29:37I mean, you're an offensive lineman, so you're not a stats guy.
00:29:41No.
00:29:42I'm a stats guy.
00:29:43No, no.
00:29:44Sure.
00:29:45Winning is awesome, but who doesn't want some stats here and there?
00:29:47Yeah.
00:29:48Yeah.
00:29:49Like you can be four and oh, if I'm a receiver, I'm trying to get more than two catches.
00:29:53Well, the only stats that offensive linemen would get were sacks, pressures.
00:29:57Yeah.
00:29:58Yeah.
00:29:59Bad ones.
00:30:00Bad ones.
00:30:01I never looked at that stuff.
00:30:02You know, knockdowns are never public, but it was always fun tracking.
00:30:05Yeah.
00:30:06Tracking knockdowns in the meeting room.
00:30:08Yeah.
00:30:09Um, speaking of the Eagles there, Jalen Hurts to me, coach, is one of the more interesting quarterbacks in the league right now because he doesn't seemingly care about statistics.
00:30:22Like, he to me feels like the ultimate, if we're grading intangibles, I think I rank him 1-1 in terms of just doing whatever actions need to be done to win the football game and in like leadership, his demeanor.
00:30:36I mean, did you see him after the game winning kick or the kick block?
00:30:39Yeah.
00:30:40No reaction.
00:30:41Stone face.
00:30:42Just, you know, business is done.
00:30:43Let's go to the locker room.
00:30:44How do you evaluate a guy like Hurts who isn't statistically overwhelming?
00:30:48He, he, you know, obviously I was there, we drafted him.
00:30:52Yeah.
00:30:53Right.
00:30:54And during our process and during our, you know, evaluation process, the thing, when you talk to former coaches and, and teammates and, you know, coordinators and all these people that have surrounded, you know, Jalen Hurts over his career, the one thing I think that stands out is what you see is bottom line.
00:31:14He doesn't care about statistics.
00:31:15He doesn't care about statistics.
00:31:16He doesn't care about anything.
00:31:18Let's just win the game.
00:31:19Yeah.
00:31:20Bottom line.
00:31:21We're going to win the game.
00:31:22And, and I think it comes to a little bit, you know, his, you know, Nick Saban bench.
00:31:26Yep.
00:31:27Right.
00:31:28Absolutely.
00:31:29Which to his credit, he, he stayed with it.
00:31:32He stuck at Alabama and then, and then eventually, you know, moved on to Oklahoma.
00:31:35Well, and he saved them in the SEC championship the next year.
00:31:38The next year.
00:31:39When he had to come in and get it done against Georgia.
00:31:41And, and to me, that's, that's a, that's, that's character.
00:31:44That's leadership.
00:31:45That's, that's a guy that, that is a team player.
00:31:48And that's what you see.
00:31:49And, and listen, like you said, block field goal back for a touchdown.
00:31:55He's like, that's great.
00:31:56Let's go to the next game.
00:31:58What can we do to get better as a football team?
00:32:00And that's what you appreciate about Jalen Hurts and, and how he leads that team.
00:32:04And, and just happy where he is in his career.
00:32:07And there's, there's still a ways to go and he can continue to improve each and every week.
00:32:12Yeah.
00:32:13Yeah.
00:32:14He, and you know, it's crazy.
00:32:15His Oklahoma year is one of the most statistically impressive years in college football history.
00:32:19It just kind of got buried by Joe Burrow.
00:32:21Yeah.
00:32:22It just got buried by Joe Burrow going crazy.
00:32:24It was, it was insane.
00:32:26It's happening y'all.
00:32:28Welcome back to wake up Barstool.
00:32:30What a fun Friday, man.
00:32:31I mean, the commercial break, just chopping it up.
00:32:33Yeah.
00:32:34It's going down memory lane.
00:32:35We got plenty more football to get to.
00:32:37Uh, but look, we all love to gamble here for the most.
00:32:39I'm not speaking for coach.
00:32:40Uh, but, but you know, it's here at Barstool.
00:32:43A lot of us do.
00:32:44And, uh, one of our in house experts is Megan making money.
00:32:49She's been hot this year, Meg.
00:32:51What's up?
00:32:52It's time to head back to the money corner.
00:32:53What's on the docket this weekend?
00:32:55It is time.
00:32:56Um, spooky season came a little early for me last week.
00:32:58It's just now October, but things got real dark real quick.
00:33:01It was a bad weekend for everybody.
00:33:02I think I went one and four.
00:33:03Real dark real quick.
00:33:04So, um, that being said, we're on to this week.
00:33:07Uh, first play, you guys were kind of breaking it down.
00:33:09That Wisconsin-Michigan game.
00:33:11Um, you guys noted that Michigan has a great run game.
00:33:14Wisconsin's got a great run defense.
00:33:16Um, Underwood has only connected on 56% of his passes.
00:33:21He hasn't looked dominant through the air.
00:33:24He's going to have to try here.
00:33:26I'm running back a play that I took two weeks ago.
00:33:28Bryce Underwood, anytime touchdown.
00:33:29If he's not feeling himself throwing that ball, he's going to take it on himself to win
00:33:33that game.
00:33:34Bryce Underwood, anytime touchdown.
00:33:35And we had, we actually had to cut it, but we had a play in there of his long draw touchdown.
00:33:39The guy could scoot.
00:33:40Right.
00:33:41He's got some wheels.
00:33:42Uh, up next, I have a Moneyline Parlay of Baylor and Miami.
00:33:47Uh, I didn't, did not give K-State enough credit last week off of a buy in the Little
00:33:52Apple.
00:33:53Gave UCF way too, too much credit.
00:33:55Uh, I think this game, uh, Baylor and, uh, I think Baylor, Sawyer Robinson is going to
00:34:01come down to the end of the game, but I think he is going to get it done for us.
00:34:04Um, even though Avery Johnson looked great last week.
00:34:08Uh, and then Miami.
00:34:09It's all about the U.
00:34:10Beck seems super comfortable.
00:34:11Dee's one of the best in the country.
00:34:13Had a bye week.
00:34:14I know it's not at home.
00:34:16It's at the Knowles, but this is a big recruiting bowl for these two teams.
00:34:19Oh, yeah.
00:34:20I, I love Miami here.
00:34:22Um, up next, Maryland.
00:34:23It's old school.
00:34:24Miami and FSU being good again.
00:34:26Oh, I know.
00:34:27It feels great.
00:34:28Uh, Maryland plus six and a half.
00:34:29Um, they have a chance to stay unbeaten at home off of a bye.
00:34:32Uh, they're playing this Washington team.
00:34:33Who they luckily just got to see get beat by another big, a big 10 team.
00:34:38So they kind of have a, a play script on how to run this game.
00:34:41Uh, so I like Maryland plus a six and a half.
00:34:43And I think that they have, um, the ability to maybe win outright and slice up, uh, Washington
00:34:48secondary.
00:34:49Sneaky, great, uh, quarterback matchup here with Malik Washington and Demond Williams to
00:34:54the better, more underrated under talked about quarterbacks in the country right now.
00:34:58Less sneaky quarterback matchup.
00:35:00Uh, I like the over 49 and a half in Michigan State, Nebraska.
00:35:03Uh, you got two guys in, uh, Riola and Tiles that can just absolutely do everything here.
00:35:10Yup.
00:35:11Uh, in my football watching life, I haven't been really excited to watch a ton of big
00:35:1410 matchups, but I'm excited for this one.
00:35:17Uh, and last but not least, we're going with Brandon Walker's Mississippi State Bulldogs
00:35:22plus a 15 and a half at Texas A&M.
00:35:24It's a big number.
00:35:25It's a big number.
00:35:26It's a big, big number.
00:35:27And I know they're off of a loss, but they're a perfect 5-0 ATS this year, which is obviously
00:35:33huge for betters.
00:35:34Again, big number for Texas A&M delay.
00:35:36I know they're back at home, but they couldn't cover last week.
00:35:39I think State can go in there and keep it potentially close to the end.
00:35:43That's what I'm going with this week, and hopefully I can make you guys some money.
00:35:48Hell yes.
00:35:49Uh, by the way, I don't think we discussed it right there because I know we're a bit limited
00:35:52on time, but the, um, I'm with you on Alabama.
00:35:55I'm on Bama too.
00:35:56Minus 10 and a half, dude.
00:35:58Vandy's awesome.
00:35:59I love Diego Pavia, but in Tuscaloosa, if you look at last year's game, Bama dominated
00:36:05play to play.
00:36:06It was just a time of possession.
00:36:07They couldn't get off the field on third down.
00:36:09Maybe those things ring true again, but.
00:36:11I like a Diego anytime touchdown.
00:36:13If I'm going to play anything.
00:36:14Yeah.
00:36:15Vandy, but if Kellen learned anything from Saban, he's foaming at the mouth.
00:36:20And so is this entire team ready to just take back the goalposts that they brought down
00:36:26last year.
00:36:27I mean, yeah.
00:36:28Look at Ty Simpson, dude.
00:36:29Week one.
00:36:30He comes out.
00:36:31He looks awful against FSU.
00:36:32We all completely out of him.
00:36:33And now you look up a month later and he's the highest rated quarterback in the entire
00:36:37SEC and playing really well.
00:36:39Megan, thank you very much.
00:36:40Once again, that is Megan's Money Court.
00:36:42It's up on the year.
00:36:43Take advantage of these picks, guys.
00:36:45Coming up next hour, Brandon Walker's going to join the show.
00:36:47We've got a ton of football still to get to.
00:36:49It's Friday.
00:36:50More Wake Up Barstool.
00:36:52I mean, Mikey, I mean, what are we talking about?
00:37:05What are you doing?
00:37:06I've been doing this for a long time.
00:37:07I don't know.
00:37:08What did you do?
00:37:09I've been doing this for a long time.
00:37:10You told him to pay attention.
00:37:11Yeah.
00:37:12I don't know.
00:37:13We can have a conversation.
00:37:14I get a little nervous, man.
00:37:16All right?
00:37:17Yeah, don't worry.
00:37:18Look, we've got Coach Dan Hurley coming up here any second now.
00:37:20He'll be sitting down.
00:37:21We're going to talk to him about a new book that he's written.
00:37:23We've got Brandon Walker here in studio with us now as well.
00:37:27So, we'll talk to Coach Dan Hurley.
00:37:28Thank you, Dan.
00:37:29Thank you, Dan.
00:37:30And then, after that, we're going to sub somebody out and bring Coach Peterson
00:37:34back in to preview the football weekend.
00:37:36So, guys, it's a really, really fun Friday.
00:37:39Brandon, can I interest you in a...
00:37:42Hit it, Brandon.
00:37:43Come on.
00:37:44Come on, Brandon.
00:37:45Sniff that thing.
00:37:46Sniff it.
00:37:47Sniff it.
00:37:48A little sniff.
00:37:49A little sniff.
00:37:50No, no.
00:37:51What's wrong with you guys?
00:37:52We're not playing.
00:37:53Yes.
00:37:54Yes.
00:37:55Give it to Dana.
00:37:56And throw up Megan's way.
00:37:57Ow!
00:37:58Woo!
00:38:00Okay, perfect.
00:38:01Ready.
00:38:02Ah!
00:38:03Ah!
00:38:04There's no better way to get pumped up for Coach Hurley.
00:38:06Does Hurley know we're all idiots?
00:38:07Than hitting some smelling salts.
00:38:08Woo!
00:38:09Woo!
00:38:10Woo!
00:38:11Woo!
00:38:12Woo!
00:38:13Woo!
00:38:14Woo!
00:38:15Woo!
00:38:16Woo!
00:38:17Woo!
00:38:18Woo!
00:38:19Woo!
00:38:20Woo!
00:38:21Woo!
00:38:22Woo!
00:38:23Woo!
00:38:24Woo!
00:38:25Woo!
00:38:26Woo!
00:38:27Woo!
00:38:28Woo!
00:38:29Woo!
00:38:30Woo!
00:38:31Woo!
00:38:32Woo!
00:38:33Woo!
00:38:34Woo!
00:38:35Woo!
00:38:36Woo!
00:38:37Woo!
00:38:38Woo!
00:38:39Woo!
00:38:40Woo!
00:38:41Woo!
00:38:42Woo!
00:38:43Woo!
00:38:44Woo!
00:38:45Woo!
00:38:46Woo!
00:38:47Woo!
00:38:48Woo!
00:38:49Woo!
00:38:50Woo!
00:38:51Woo!
00:38:52Woo!
00:38:53Woo!
00:38:54Woo!
00:38:55Yeah, it was unsustainable.
00:38:57Just really, really make you wonder, is my heart going to explode this game?
00:39:01Just really ride the line there, Coach.
00:39:04Yes, and then I graduated to, like, the Red Bull before the game,
00:39:10Red Bull at halftime.
00:39:11Again, unsustainable.
00:39:14Now I'm like a soft-ass mushroom coffee drinker.
00:39:17Yeah, hell yeah.
00:39:18Hey, it's good for your brain.
00:39:20It's good for your brain, right?
00:39:21That's the Coach O, the double Red Bull.
00:39:23All right, Coach, so you just came out with a new book,
00:39:26Never Stop, Life, Leadership, and What It Takes to Be Great.
00:39:30Now, obviously, back-to-back national champ, last year, great again,
00:39:35bounced by the eventual national champs.
00:39:36I would say that you are well-versed in what it takes to be great.
00:39:40What was the impetus behind writing this book?
00:39:44What made you want to do this?
00:39:46And for me, just having dealt with a lot of failure,
00:39:49a lot of struggles in all different areas of my life,
00:39:52just tried to put something out there that might help some people
00:39:56that are, you know, going through some of the same types of stuff.
00:40:00Coach, Brandon Walker, the number one college football media personality
00:40:03in the world, also very high in college basketball.
00:40:06You mentioned it yourself right there about being polarizing
00:40:09and the passion and the fans, you know, the altercations with fans
00:40:14and the altercations with officials.
00:40:15Do you ever in the offseason right now, when we're just getting ready
00:40:19for this stuff to ramp up, do you ever go into a season saying,
00:40:21you know what, I'm going to pull back this year,
00:40:23I'm going to be a little bit more chill, I'm going to take a different approach,
00:40:27and then does that go away in the season, or do you just always,
00:40:31I'm going to be who I'm going to be regardless?
00:40:33Bingo, you know, like right now, I go into every year, you know,
00:40:39I'll do a lot of work in the offseason just to try to prepare to walk away,
00:40:47and then I don't, you know, and then it happens again.
00:40:54My intentions are good.
00:40:56I guess that's that thing, though.
00:40:59It's like, you know, my superpower is my fire.
00:41:03It's, you know, this relentless, ruthless competitiveness,
00:41:09you know, life or death urgency with how we prepare
00:41:12and how we treat the games, and I think, you know,
00:41:15my teams and programs are fueled by that, and, you know, I'm a flawed.
00:41:20I'm not a fake.
00:41:21I'm not a phony.
00:41:22You know, I don't try to be perfect.
00:41:24You know, I am who I am.
00:41:26You know, it's caused me problems at times,
00:41:29but it's also helped me, you know, win two national championships.
00:41:32Ha!
00:41:33Quite a good smout there, yeah.
00:41:36Coach Hurley, my name's Dana Beers.
00:41:38Great to meet you.
00:41:39I just want to say I'm a massive hoop head.
00:41:41Love basketball.
00:41:42Absolutely obsessed with the game,
00:41:43so it's a pleasure to be able to talk to you right now.
00:41:45I do need your help and some advice right now.
00:41:48We have a men's league coming up first week of November.
00:41:51Oh, my God.
00:41:52These barstool employers are not the most athletic group of guys.
00:41:56Yeah.
00:41:56We need to basically know what type of defense should we be running
00:41:59for a lot of fat, out-of-shape guys,
00:42:02probably eight people total on a team.
00:42:05Yeah, yeah.
00:42:05What type should we run, 2-3, 1-3-1?
00:42:08What do you think we should do when we get out there the first week of November?
00:42:12Well, if you guys are all fat and unathletic and passive,
00:42:17I feel like it sounds like you've got to try to get all 80 on the court.
00:42:21You might want to try to do like a 4-4 zone or something.
00:42:25No, I think you guys got to get in the pack line, you know.
00:42:29I think you guys got to go back to play like that Tony Bennett,
00:42:32Virginia style of defense.
00:42:34Who's your center?
00:42:35Probably me, but I'm more of a Nikola Jokic type player.
00:42:39Oh, no, you're not.
00:42:40No, no, you are not.
00:42:42I heard it's a double-double in high school.
00:42:43I don't know what you're talking about.
00:42:44Wait, wait, do we have – okay, let's get the beers footage up.
00:42:46Is Coach going to be able to see this footage?
00:42:49Yeah.
00:42:50All right, Coach, here we go.
00:42:51Look, this is our own Dana Beers fighting for more.
00:42:53Big dog.
00:42:54Putting it back up.
00:42:55Look at that, Coach.
00:42:56You ain't never – you saw that post move?
00:42:57Look at that.
00:42:58He's angry.
00:43:00Coach, inflated rebounding numbers.
00:43:06Okay, coast to coast there.
00:43:07Is that a Nikola Jokic type player?
00:43:09Look at this little turnaround.
00:43:10Dang.
00:43:11Maybe a little luckier bounce, but it's okay.
00:43:14Not a lot of lift.
00:43:17And a little bit of what kind of ended my – oh, my Lord.
00:43:23Spin move.
00:43:24Who set that ball – who set that, like, nail ball screen?
00:43:27I don't know.
00:43:28He doesn't know.
00:43:30Yeah, no, impressive.
00:43:34Yeah, no, on that specific play, someone said, oh, you're sweaty.
00:43:39Yeah, short – you have short arms, too, which is kind of, you know, combine that with the – well, I'm – you're like a T-Rex out there.
00:43:50Guys, we have one of the best college basketball coaches of all time, and we're asking him about Dana Beers highlights.
00:43:55All right, I got a real question.
00:43:58We have a guy named Mutt here at Barstool.
00:44:00Shout out to Mutt.
00:44:01This is a real question?
00:44:02Massive UConn fan.
00:44:03So I asked him, if you have one question, what can you ask?
00:44:06It's a basketball question.
00:44:07And it's a great question.
00:44:09So can you just talk a little bit about the difference, your day-to-day now with NIL being such a massive thing in college sports?
00:44:17How does your day-to-day change as a head coach of a major college basketball team?
00:44:24Yeah.
00:44:26It changes in every way.
00:44:27I'd say just from the recruiting piece, you know, like pre-NIL, you know, it was just scholarships.
00:44:35And you – you know, when it was just a scholarship, you would – you valued almost every player on, like, on your board.
00:44:44Or you'd want players in your program, you know, like at various stages of their development, you know, whether they were an impact player, potential starter, off the bench, or developmental.
00:44:57You know, now, like when you're in recruiting, if you view a player as your 10th man as a freshman or a guy that won't play or has a red shirt, but then another program views him as a guy that's going to be a starter or an early rotation player, and they're going to pay him four or five times what you're going to pay him, you know, then you can no longer recruit the player.
00:45:21So you've got to make a valuation on a high school player on not just whether you want to offer him a scholarship, but what are they worth to your team as a freshman.
00:45:31And then I would say, you know, with your own players, I've never coached them harder.
00:45:36You know, like our guys, they train in a $45 million practice facility.
00:45:41True.
00:45:41You know, they charter everywhere.
00:45:43They stay in the best hotels in every city we go to.
00:45:47We eat it, you know, we eat the best food you can find in Omaha or Milwaukee or wherever we go.
00:45:53You know, they have everything at their disposal to be successful.
00:45:57But so I've got like a zero tolerance for anyone in our locker room that's not going to push to the max for UConn.
00:46:06You know, like if you're not pushing to the max for UConn, you know, it's going to get bad.
00:46:15It's going to get bad.
00:46:16In a day and age where, like you said, the comfort and the pay is such that it would be easy to become a bit soft, you've had to put your thumb on the scale to create that edge.
00:46:27Yeah. And I think that you have coaches, I think that, you know, that coach scared, that, you know, that are soft in their players because they're afraid they're going to leave if they coach them too hard or they're too demanding or they instill too much discipline or it's too high a level of accountability or sacrifice to a group.
00:46:50I mean, these are all things that like young, young men need to learn, like we need to toughen up and strengthen young men.
00:46:59Like, you know, we got to develop strong, good young men that are obviously ready to excel in sports and help us win championships, help them succeed later in life, but prepare for the world.
00:47:11I think we've, I just think we're, you know, we're making men softer.
00:47:15Dana, you know why you're not going to make it in a Danny Hurley system?
00:47:18Why is that?
00:47:19Because when he was describing all that and he was talking about all the, all the accolades they get and everything they get, when he got to the point where he said, we get all the best food in every city we go to, Omaha, you went, you went, you went, you made an audible noise when he described the food.
00:47:34Yeah, I mean, we have been talking about what we're going to eat for the last few hours.
00:47:38I know, but I was not lucky enough to play for a college basketball program.
00:47:42I was the manager of the Stonehill Skyhawks.
00:47:46I know you guys played the Stonehill Skyhawks on November 11, 2023.
00:47:51Shout out to Coach Kraus for giving you guys a fight.
00:47:53But I did want to ask you, Coach, I'm an eyeballs guy when it comes to basketball.
00:47:58I was a, you know, assistant varsity coach back in 2016, I believe.
00:48:03He is quite the resume as well.
00:48:04For you, there's this big analytics revolution in basketball.
00:48:09How much do you take into consideration, just like a gut feel, using your eyeballs, and how much do you really consider the other side with the analytics?
00:48:19I would say just for you, you're putting together quite the basketball resume.
00:48:25He's pitching.
00:48:26I average 12 and 10 in high school, and people don't talk about the blocks, 1.5 blocks a game.
00:48:30I mean, a mixtape with the coaching credentials, it's good shit.
00:48:36Put him on the staff, Coach.
00:48:38Put him on the staff.
00:48:39Come on.
00:48:39I actually have an open position.
00:48:41There's actually not enough good people to actually hire.
00:48:44You don't understand how much of a nut I am with this game.
00:48:48I think he does.
00:48:49He talked about strong men.
00:48:51Dana is a strong man.
00:48:52Look, we can do like, it's like a make-a-wish thing, except he's not a sick child.
00:48:56You just bring him in, let him be there for like a couple days, Coach.
00:49:00No, he's sick.
00:49:02That's true.
00:49:03I would say for us, you know, we use the analytics, I would say, with the portal when evaluating a player that we're considering.
00:49:12You know, because things happen so quickly, you know, with transfers.
00:49:16It's like speed dating and recruiting, you know, like things happen fast.
00:49:21The agents are circling, so you've got to make quick decisions, and you don't have a lot of time, like days or a week, to really break down as much film.
00:49:29So you've got to trust, you know, your analytics people, you know, relative to the efficiency of the player that you're, you know, considering taking, I think.
00:49:39And then, you know, some of the analytics, I think it affects the type of shots on offense that you're trying to generate, the type of shots you're trying to take away from the opponents.
00:49:50And then I think a lot of times with like, what are our best lineups?
00:49:55You know, like what are the best lineups for us to play, you know, when we're struggling offensively, when we need a stop on defense?
00:50:02What's our best defensive lineup?
00:50:04What's our best lineup at the end of the day that's going to make free throws and take care of the ball?
00:50:08I think you use those analytics, you know, but I think a lot of it for me is still, you know, like I trust my eyes more than I trust, you know, a piece of paper that maybe like a nerd is handling me.
00:50:21Coach, I had a question.
00:50:24My name is Mike.
00:50:24I played college football, so I'm a really bad basketball player, but I've been in the locker room.
00:50:30I've been, you know, in the culture of college sports.
00:50:33Early in my career, we had some success and then we had really bad next three years.
00:50:38Kids got complacent, things like that.
00:50:40How do you command your locker room after winning two national championships?
00:50:45Good question.
00:50:46And people start getting complacent or like, how do you make sure your players still are uncomfortable in a sense and not get comfortable with the wins?
00:50:56Yeah, I think, you know, for me, I'm a pretty direct leader.
00:51:00I think we've all had, you know, different types of coaches.
00:51:03And I think, you know, I think for me, I don't speak in general terms to my team.
00:51:09I think I'm able to garner kind of the respect and attention of my team because, like, when we get in a huddle, I'm not the type of coach that says, you know, hey, guys, you know, we've got to pick it up.
00:51:21We've got to go harder.
00:51:23Hey, guys, we've got to stop taking bad shots or we've got to stop, you know, playing soft.
00:51:30It's like I'm the type of coach that, like, when I'm in the huddle, because generally it's not the whole team.
00:51:35You know, I would say for the most part, it's usually going to be on a given day.
00:51:40It's going to be two or three players that are letting down the group.
00:51:43Yeah.
00:51:43You know, either by having a bad, you know, like bad approach, you know, like not giving max effort.
00:51:48So now I immediately I don't run from confrontation, you know, confrontation.
00:51:54It's just going to multiply if you avoid that.
00:51:56Yeah.
00:51:56So I think I just root it out by, you know, dealing with individuals in real time when they're letting down the group.
00:52:03And I think that's what keeps everyone on their toes, you know, and on point.
00:52:09Coach, I have to ask you about this.
00:52:12Yesterday it was in the news.
00:52:13There seems to be some momentum about expanding the NCAA tournament even further.
00:52:19It's a bit interesting.
00:52:20The kind of boots on the ground public response doesn't seem to be very positive in this regard.
00:52:26What is your opinion on 70, you know, 75 plus teams making the NCAA tournament?
00:52:34Yeah.
00:52:34I mean, just why, you know, like why are we doing it?
00:52:37Like what's the point?
00:52:39Is there going to be, is there, you know, March Madness, you know, second biggest sporting event in America on a yearly basis, right?
00:52:48Next to, you know, behind the Super Bowl.
00:52:50It's a one and a half billion dollar, you know, revenue generator, which, you know, like we won the tournament twice.
00:52:57And, you know, I think we've got, you know, we get a fraction of what like college football programs get when they win, you know, the college football, you know, whatever that's called, you know, at the, I don't think that that's what it's called or whatever it's called.
00:53:12Yeah.
00:53:13Yeah.
00:53:14So I would just say like is now that we're in revenue sharing with the players and, you know, you've, you've got, I guess what they're reporting is close to, you know, 38, 40 teams in college basketball spending 10 million or more dollars on their men's college basketball team this year.
00:53:30And is there going to be a much bigger payout directly to universities and college basketball programs?
00:53:37For me, my initial reaction is what makes college basketball so special is that every game matters so much.
00:53:44And it's, and I think like the last three weeks or a month when teams are on the bubble, those excruciating, painful, you know, pressure cooker games that coaches and players are going through is what makes, you know, makes the dog days of college basketball fun and interesting.
00:54:00And, you know, seeding matters so much for the NCAA tournament too.
00:54:04So if there's a big financial gain, let's do it.
00:54:07If not, like, why are we doing it?
00:54:09All right.
00:54:10It's like the purest thing.
00:54:11It's purest thing in sports.
00:54:12Don't ruin it.
00:54:13Yeah.
00:54:13Don't ruin it.
00:54:14All right, Coach.
00:54:15This is Megan from the Money Corner.
00:54:17Shout out for lots of wins and covering.
00:54:21So thank you for that.
00:54:22This isn't really a question.
00:54:23This is more so just an observation.
00:54:26I really like the saying, get you a guy that can do both.
00:54:29Your outfit right now is so incredibly relaxed.
00:54:33Like, you look so different from the absolute respectfully freak that I see on the sidelines.
00:54:39Yeah, I mean, look at that.
00:54:41That's a little dude.
00:54:42That really, that rocks.
00:54:44And that's all I had to say.
00:54:46And I love the vibe.
00:54:48Good question, Megan.
00:54:49It wasn't a question.
00:54:50It was a compliment.
00:54:51The only time I felt pressure the last, really the last couple of years was when I saw, you know, Portnoy with the Futures bet.
00:55:00You know, I don't know if it was 23 or 24 where I saw he might have tweeted at me.
00:55:07And I made the mistake of looking at, you know, looking at my ex that day a couple of years back.
00:55:12And it said, like, if Hurley wins tonight, I make 1.4.
00:55:15If he loses, I get nothing.
00:55:18And just knowing the barstool blowback.
00:55:21If I lose that game.
00:55:22What?
00:55:23This community?
00:55:23No way.
00:55:25Coach Hurley, cannot thank you enough, man.
00:55:27This has been awesome.
00:55:28Guys, as you can see from this interview, this is a man who is undeniably himself.
00:55:34And if you want to know how he ended up getting there, go check out the book, Never Stop, Life, Leadership, and What It Takes to Be Great by Dan Hurley.
00:55:42Coach Hurley, thank you so much, brother.
00:55:43You have an excellent day.
00:55:44Thank you, Coach.
00:55:46Never stop, boys.
00:55:47Never stop.
00:55:47Never stop.
00:55:48There he is.
00:55:49Not gonna.
00:55:50Good seeing Hurley.
00:55:50What a legend, dude.
00:55:51I think you got a job, dude.
00:55:53That was awesome.
00:55:54I think you got a job, dude.
00:55:55Listen, that was awesome.
00:55:57Yeah, it was awesome.
00:55:58I love that guy.
00:55:59And he's a Jersey City guy.
00:56:01Balcony bed was in Jersey City.
00:56:03Oh, my God.
00:56:03You know, you know.
00:56:04Damn, you didn't get to ask that question.
00:56:06I know.
00:56:06I really wanted to at the end, but that's very nice.
00:56:08Mikey, we love you.
00:56:10We're gonna sub you out for Coach Doug Peterson.
00:56:12You have a great day, as always.
00:56:14Check out the Big Boys Club now on YouTube, and we got more Wake Up Barstool coming up next.
00:56:18Crawlers Unite.
00:56:19Crawlers Unite.
00:56:26What up, Wake Up Barstool?
00:56:32It is once again time for me to take you around the office as we figure out some of our co-workers' favorite parts of spooky season.
00:56:40What is your favorite spooky season tradition?
00:56:46I like to watch a horror movie every single day, or at least try to, of all of Halloween.
00:56:51Okay.
00:56:51Or October.
00:56:52What's your favorite horror movie ever?
00:56:53Scream.
00:56:54Cody, what is your favorite part, tradition, hot take, about spooky season?
00:57:00It all sucks.
00:57:00It all sucks.
00:57:01Guys like you coming around asking, what's your favorite tradition?
00:57:04Oh, I want to watch Halloween movies on September 30th.
00:57:07Get out of my face, bro.
00:57:08What the f***?
00:57:10Wyatt, favorite part of spooky season?
00:57:12I gotta agree with Cody.
00:57:14I don't like any of it.
00:57:15I think Halloween is overrated, especially if you're a single guy in your 20s.
00:57:19It's the worst holiday for that demographic.
00:57:23Oh my god.
00:57:24This bro sucks.
00:57:27Owen, what's your favorite part of spooky season?
00:57:30Oh, candy corn.
00:57:31Okay, hell yeah, dude.
00:57:32Danny, what's your favorite part of spooky season?
00:57:34Scary movies, 100%.
00:57:36Hell yeah, best scary movie.
00:57:38Scream 1.
00:57:39Wow, 2 for Scream.
00:57:40Our wonderful producer, Jeremy, what is your favorite part of the Halloween season?
00:57:44I don't like Halloween.
00:57:45It's stressful, finding a costume.
00:57:48This is f***ing company, dude.
00:57:50Just choose a costume.
00:57:51No, I don't do it.
00:57:53It's stressful.
00:57:53Our wonderful director on WUB.
00:57:55Okay, what's your favorite part of Halloween season?
00:57:57My favorite part of Halloween season, I love corn mazes.
00:58:00And hay rides, but I also really love haunted houses.
00:58:04I love getting scared.
00:58:05Yes, see?
00:58:06That's the enthusiasm we're looking for.
00:58:08Not that row over there.
00:58:09See, Dan, what's your favorite part of the Halloween season?
00:58:12I'm not sure what my favorite part is.
00:58:14Can I tell you my least favorite?
00:58:15Yeah.
00:58:16It's candy corn.
00:58:17Candy corn has no business in being in candy.
00:58:19It's the worst candy ever.
00:58:20And I have like 10 cavities.
00:58:22So I should, I'm the guy.
00:58:23I know what I can speak on.
00:58:25Candy corn is d***.
00:58:26Also, while we're at it, f***ing pumpkin spice.
00:58:28That's perfect.
00:58:31There it is, guys.
00:58:32Some really good answers.
00:58:34Some entirely too many curmudgeonly answers.
00:58:37But the bottom line is, cozy up.
00:58:40Get a scary movie.
00:58:40Get some taste candy.
00:58:41Get a costume.
00:58:42Because spooky season is officially underway.
00:58:46What's happening, guys?
00:58:47Wake up, Barst.
00:58:48A little around the office.
00:58:49Bunch of Halloween scrooges there.
00:58:51But probably keep it Halloween all month long.
00:58:55Coach, what's your favorite Halloween decoration, tradition, kids?
00:58:59You got any good Halloween memories?
00:59:02Well, yeah.
00:59:03As a kid growing up, obviously, you know, trick-or-treating was huge.
00:59:07And I always, of course, I love football.
00:59:09So I always dressed up as a football player.
00:59:11I don't know why.
00:59:11Do you remember what players you were?
00:59:13Well, I grew up in Washington.
00:59:15So I was a Seattle Seahawks fan.
00:59:17Hell yeah.
00:59:17Jim Zorn.
00:59:18Hell yeah, dude.
00:59:19Didn't we talk about Jim Zorn yesterday, randomly?
00:59:23And Ricky Waters.
00:59:23Somebody asked a question.
00:59:25They showed the Seattle throwbacks from this week.
00:59:27Oh, yes.
00:59:27The 1980s throwbacks.
00:59:28Who does this make you think of?
00:59:30I said Steve Largent.
00:59:31Anybody like 10 years older than me would say Jim Zorn.
00:59:34And then I said, I think, Ricky Waters.
00:59:37Brandon, what did you want to say?
00:59:38I saw you do one of your tizzies.
00:59:40No, it wasn't a tizzy at all.
00:59:42It was just like you're a grown man.
00:59:43You get to October 1st, and now all of a sudden you've got to put decorations in the yard
00:59:46and watch scary movies.
00:59:47I think that's weird.
00:59:49Oh, yeah.
00:59:49Another curmudgeon around the office.
00:59:51I agree.
00:59:52I mean, you know, having fun, that just sounds awful.
00:59:54You know, decorating with the kids.
00:59:56Could be someone's birthday.
00:59:58Giant skeletons.
01:00:00Yeah, someone celebrating one of your good friend's birthdays, Brandon.
01:00:02You're right.
01:00:02This all sounds terrible.
01:00:03F me.
01:00:04Agreed.
01:00:05Agreed.
01:00:06Now, if you're not into the holiday season, chances are you're into football.
01:00:10Okay.
01:00:11That's the point.
01:00:12It's football season.
01:00:12It is football season.
01:00:13It is football season.
01:00:15And let's dive into this weekend slate a little bit.
01:00:18Coach, I do want to pick your brain on this.
01:00:20How often – do you watch any college football on Saturdays?
01:00:24Or are you – what are your football-watching habits right now?
01:00:27Football-watching habits, we do.
01:00:29We watch quite a bit of college football on Saturdays.
01:00:32And then this year, obviously, with the year off from the NFL, we do – my wife and I will
01:00:37sit and watch a few NFL games.
01:00:39Okay.
01:00:40But we enjoy the sport.
01:00:42We enjoy watching it.
01:00:43Were you watching college football when you were a head coach in the NFL?
01:00:45I was.
01:00:46I was.
01:00:46A little bit harder on Saturdays because we were either traveling or – and plus,
01:00:50with our – you know, our two oldest sons played college football, and so we were able
01:00:54to travel and watch them play.
01:00:55Where'd they play?
01:00:56I didn't know that.
01:00:56Our oldest played at Samford.
01:00:57Okay.
01:00:58Hell yeah.
01:00:58I know Samford.
01:00:59Bulldogs.
01:01:00Bulldogs.
01:01:00Yep.
01:01:00Yep.
01:01:00Yep.
01:01:00And then our middle son played at my alma mater, Louisiana Monroe.
01:01:04Go ULM.
01:01:05Ahmad Hardy was awesome for ULM last year in ILR, and now he might win the Heisman at Mizzou.
01:01:11Shout out to Coach Brian Vincent.
01:01:13It's a good damn coach right there.
01:01:14Brandon, did you say that you're 10 years younger than Coach?
01:01:17I guessed.
01:01:17I don't know.
01:01:18I mean, there's just – you look 10 years older.
01:01:19There's no way.
01:01:20I do not look 10 years older than him, Megan.
01:01:22We look at the same age at worst.
01:01:25I have a question.
01:01:26It's just your opinion, man.
01:01:27How old are you?
01:01:2857.
01:01:30He's 11 years older than me.
01:01:32Okay.
01:01:32I was close.
01:01:33Can I say the A word?
01:01:35Ass?
01:01:35Sure.
01:01:35Yes.
01:01:36Yeah.
01:01:37I'm surprised your fat ass doesn't love Halloween cake.
01:01:40I don't think you should just say it like that.
01:01:42You can't say it like that.
01:01:43You should love Halloween.
01:01:46All right.
01:01:47Unhealthy as hell.
01:01:48I love the small, like, candy bars.
01:01:51The little, like, the Snickers.
01:01:52Yeah, the bite-sized.
01:01:53The fun-sized candy bars are good.
01:01:54Those are the best.
01:01:55I put them in the freezer.
01:01:56I do love the candy.
01:01:57I'm not –
01:01:57Don't do the big, full-size ones.
01:01:59I just don't understand the spooky season.
01:02:01Not when you get older.
01:02:02And watching a scary movie every day.
01:02:03That's no way to go.
01:02:04Because you're a basement.
01:02:05You get scared.
01:02:06You're in the basement.
01:02:07You're like, ooh.
01:02:08I don't understand wanting to get scared by a movie.
01:02:10I don't understand.
01:02:11I can understand wanting to get entertained.
01:02:12It's adrenaline.
01:02:13I want to laugh.
01:02:13I'm just talking about it.
01:02:14I'm going to a haunted house on Saturday.
01:02:16It's really cool.
01:02:17It's an awkward.
01:02:18Also, when you were in junior high, maybe you wanted to, like, hold hands.
01:02:21Maybe you wanted to get, like, rubbed up on a little bit.
01:02:23Brandon doesn't know that.
01:02:24Maybe a little kiss.
01:02:24I agree.
01:02:25I mean, the haunted house was the play, dude.
01:02:29Shout out my girl Lisa.
01:02:31Haunted house, seventh grade.
01:02:32That was a good time.
01:02:32Oh, boy.
01:02:34Anyway.
01:02:35Anyway.
01:02:36Coming up, college football this weekend, guys.
01:02:38Okay, we got a few big ones on the docket.
01:02:40Coach, I want to talk to you about Alabama.
01:02:43Vandy's going to Alabama.
01:02:44Last year, Alabama loses.
01:02:46Big, massive story.
01:02:48But I want to ask you what you think the challenges are that Kalen DeBoer has been dealing with
01:02:54the last couple years, replacing a guy like Nick Saban, who was obviously the pinnacle
01:02:59of college football for over a decade.
01:03:02Well, obviously, yeah.
01:03:03Those are big shoes to fill.
01:03:05Yeah.
01:03:05You know, with the SEC titles, the national titles, you know, really putting Alabama
01:03:12almost on a pedestal to a national stage and filling that.
01:03:18And I think, too, now he's entering, as we heard from Coach Hurley, he's entering a transfer
01:03:23portal age.
01:03:24He's entering NIL.
01:03:24Yeah, everything changed as well.
01:03:25Everything has changed, so his roster continues to turn over every single season.
01:03:31And whether they dabble in the portal or not, I just think those challenges become harder.
01:03:38And I think, too, you're seeing Alabama teams that maybe aren't as talented as maybe the
01:03:43Saban era.
01:03:44But they're still, I think, really coming into their own right now.
01:03:48The quarterback's playing extremely well, better than, obviously, the first game of
01:03:52the season.
01:03:53But, you know, it's definitely a challenge to continue the success and sustained success
01:04:00year in and year out.
01:04:01I think this is a fascinating game.
01:04:03It's a game where Vanderbilt is the program that has never been anything in the SEC, and
01:04:07Alabama's always been everything.
01:04:09And last year, it was the paradigm-changing game of the year.
01:04:13It was, Alabama was coming off a win against Georgia, and they were still Alabama.
01:04:18They were still everything.
01:04:19Yes, it's so true.
01:04:20They were still fully, like, oh, they picked, they saved it, no problem.
01:04:23Vanderbilt beats them.
01:04:24Everything for that season falls apart.
01:04:27They end up going 9-4.
01:04:28They miss the playoff.
01:04:29Now, they start this season with that big loss to Florida State, and it looks like they
01:04:32got it back on track.
01:04:33But here they are again, coming off that big emotional win against Georgia, and Diego Pavia
01:04:37still talking that noise over there in Nashville.
01:04:40So, I think this is a gigantic opportunity for Kalen DeBoer to pick up everything that
01:04:44fell off the wagon last year at this game and put it right back on there, solidly in the
01:04:48top 10 again.
01:04:49I think a solid win here against Vanderbilt puts everything back together for Alabama.
01:04:54Have you seen, have you gotten to watch Pavia from Vanderbilt play much?
01:04:58I haven't.
01:04:58You'd love him.
01:05:00He's not, he's not statistically overwhelming running quarterback, but the dude's just
01:05:05a gamer.
01:05:06Talks a lot of mess.
01:05:07Just a balls-on-the-line gamer.
01:05:09Just finds ways to get it done.
01:05:12Little pseudo-triple option pass attack.
01:05:15But you gotta love guys like that, right?
01:05:17When the lights come on, they shine the brightest.
01:05:18Yes.
01:05:19And it seems like the things I have watched, the highlights and things I've seen and read
01:05:23a little bit.
01:05:24I haven't watched many Vanderbilt games, obviously.
01:05:26No, obviously.
01:05:26With him, great leader for that football team, perfect fit.
01:05:31How much do y'all put on the scale in player evaluation for the idea of a gamer?
01:05:40How important is it to know that, okay, when the pressure is highest, I can rely on this
01:05:46guy?
01:05:47We weigh that pretty heavily.
01:05:49It goes back to our Jalen Hurst conversation earlier about him and coming out of college.
01:05:54And then when you do that evaluation process and you get a chance to visit with these kids,
01:05:59you ask them those questions like, do you want the ball in your hand when the game gets
01:06:04on the line?
01:06:05Yeah.
01:06:05You know, well, yeah, I do this.
01:06:07Or, yeah, I want the football.
01:06:09I want to make the decisions.
01:06:10So everybody says yes, but you can see who's being honest.
01:06:12You can see who's kind of honest or who's kind of a little bit of a fibber, just a little
01:06:17bit.
01:06:17Trying to say they want it, but they really don't.
01:06:20Oh, I would fib so hard.
01:06:21Oh, I'd fib.
01:06:22I'd fib.
01:06:22I would fib like you read them out.
01:06:26I'd fib my fat ass off.
01:06:27Yeah, you would.
01:06:29Not a pressure guy.
01:06:30So another game, another big game to get to this weekend is Miami, Florida State.
01:06:36Again, a bit of an old school one here.
01:06:38One that has not been the game that it was for a lot of our lives.
01:06:42It's back.
01:06:43Florida State loses Virginia last week.
01:06:45I like him here, though.
01:06:46Tallahassee, Miami coming to town.
01:06:48Brandon, I'm not talking about a gambling perspective.
01:06:52I just mean I like Florida State looking better than they did last week.
01:06:57Yeah, so this is the game, if you go back to my childhood and what locked me into being
01:07:03a college football super fan for the rest of my life, it was every year.
01:07:06It was late 80s, early 90s.
01:07:07That's when Bobby Bowden was really on top.
01:07:09Miami was really on top.
01:07:10This was the game every single year.
01:07:13There was the wide right one game, wide right two.
01:07:15Every year, these were the most talented teams, and when you saw them, offensively, defensively,
01:07:21everything, it just was apparent the guys they had on the field were better than every
01:07:25guy you were watching in every other game.
01:07:26This was where the talent was.
01:07:28And this isn't that, but this is a marquee game, and Florida State has climbed back to
01:07:33respectability.
01:07:34I wish they had won against Virginia last week to set up an undefeated matchup here.
01:07:37They didn't.
01:07:38I do think Miami has that kind of talent on that team.
01:07:41I think their defensive line, their receivers, their quarterback, they have the top-of-the-line
01:07:46talent.
01:07:46Florida State has some, but it's a scary proposition because Miami, the last couple of years, has
01:07:52been this close to being great, and every time they stub their toe, every time they lose
01:07:56a game they shouldn't lose, they lose to Syracuse, they lose whatever, now they're going
01:08:00into a dangerous, dangerous, dangerous spot.
01:08:03Alabama didn't survive Tallahassee.
01:08:05This is a fascinating game.
01:08:07Fascinating game.
01:08:07Coach, Miami's a team that, you know, every single year, year in and year out, still has
01:08:12top-ten talent, just from a recruiting standpoint, and yet they have not turned in top-ten results.
01:08:18How do you square that?
01:08:20How do you kind of interpret that?
01:08:22Well, I think it's a couple things.
01:08:25I think, one, you know, sometimes talent doesn't equal wins.
01:08:32Yeah.
01:08:32You know what I'm saying?
01:08:33Especially in football.
01:08:34Especially in football.
01:08:35Maybe in other sports it does.
01:08:37But you could have a really, really good, talented football team and still not win games.
01:08:43And maybe, I don't know, I don't want to talk about complacency, or it could be coaching.
01:08:48It could be a couple of factors involved, you know, in that.
01:08:51But, and then, too, sometimes I think, I think young players, even in the National Football League, sometimes you start reading your press clippings a little bit.
01:09:01Yeah.
01:09:01And all these analysts out there that go, well, this is a top-ten talented football, this is a top-five talented football team.
01:09:07Well, we're, they're saying we're talented.
01:09:09We are talented.
01:09:10We're supposed to be talented.
01:09:11So, we should be winning games.
01:09:13And they keep reading this, and they get a little bit complacent.
01:09:16Maybe don't put in the extra work that they want to put in.
01:09:18And, you know, but listen, if you want to be great, there's got to be a sacrifice of being great.
01:09:22You know, you just can't say you want to be great, and then it doesn't, it doesn't equal that.
01:09:26You know, you gotta, there's got to be some sacrifices.
01:09:28So, this is a great matchup.
01:09:30I'll be watching this one.
01:09:31This will be, this will be interesting.
01:09:32Of course, living in South Florida, you know, we hear a lot about Florida State, Miami, Florida.
01:09:37You know, all these teams, UCF, things like that.
01:09:39So, this will be a good one to watch.
01:09:41Coach, so Lane Kevin, guys, do we have audio on the quote?
01:09:44I was trying to ask during the break.
01:09:45Okay, okay.
01:09:46So, this was a quote from Lane Kevin yesterday.
01:09:48In my opinion, the dynasties are over.
01:09:52Alabama with Coach Saban and then Kirby at Georgia, where they had those rosters year in and year out.
01:09:57There would be a bunch of wins by 30 points in the conference.
01:10:00Those days are done.
01:10:02And this has been one of the major effects, or one of the major traits of this new era that we've seen,
01:10:10is that no longer can you keep all these four- and five-star guys in the two-deep and three-deep,
01:10:15because now they're going to go get paid to start elsewhere.
01:10:17Do you agree with that?
01:10:18Do you think the dynasties of old are maybe done in college football?
01:10:21I would agree with Coach Kiffin.
01:10:23You know, what he's saying right there, I would agree.
01:10:25I think we're in a new day and age of the portal, NIL.
01:10:29You know, you see players like, you know, Dylan Gabriel starting in the National Football League this week.
01:10:35He played at three schools.
01:10:36Yeah.
01:10:36You know what I'm saying?
01:10:37And so, you're starting to see that more and more talented players are leaving to go.
01:10:42And I think they're chasing dollars just a little bit.
01:10:44But, you know, where's the loyalty to the program that you either got a scholarship from or whatever?
01:10:50So, there is some of this, and I do believe that probably the dynasties are over.
01:10:55And maybe new ones are going to begin, you know?
01:10:58And that's why I think you're seeing parity around college football a little bit these days.
01:11:02What do you think, Brad?
01:11:03I disagree with Lane Kiffin.
01:11:05I agree to a point.
01:11:07The dynasties at Alabama and Georgia are over.
01:11:09The dynasty at Alabama is over because the guy in charge of it left.
01:11:12That's why it ended for him.
01:11:13And then Kirby's...
01:11:14You're saying you don't think the idea of a dynasty?
01:11:17I don't think so because look at Ohio State right now.
01:11:21Yeah.
01:11:21Ohio State right now, you want to talk about not being able to carry your roster over?
01:11:25This team is a team that could be as good as they were last year when they won the national championship.
01:11:29They had a bunch of guys that stayed and didn't go to the transfer portal.
01:11:32And they're now seeing their playing time.
01:11:34They're seeing their efforts come out on the field.
01:11:36And they could be just as good and could win another national title, which would be two in a row.
01:11:41And as far as a roster rollover standpoint, they're obviously dynastic.
01:11:44They have the same loaded elite roster every single year.
01:11:49So, I would agree Alabama and Georgia and the SEC are sinking a little bit, but Ohio State isn't.
01:11:54So, no, I think it takes an elite coach, elite buy-in, elite resources, but it can still be done.
01:12:01And we'll see if it's proven over time.
01:12:04Can Ohio State go back to back?
01:12:05I don't think Ohio State's a dynasty, but the ingredients that he talked about are still there.
01:12:09You know, that's a completely fair point.
01:12:11Now, you know, we've got to see what they do this year, but right now it looks like they will.
01:12:14We'll see.
01:12:14Very, very big of Kiffin to say that after he won against LSU.
01:12:19Yeah, Kiffin, I mean, he's on.
01:12:21Seems like he might be engagement farming a little bit there.
01:12:23Kiffin knows what he's doing.
01:12:24Yeah, maybe just quit football and get on Twitter.
01:12:27Landry, everything.
01:12:28Oh, God.
01:12:30I hate Ole Miss.
01:12:30Second most popular name in Louisiana.
01:12:33You're going to name your daughter that.
01:12:34Coming up next here, Wigan Barstool, let's dive into the NFL football weekend.
01:12:39And that will be more Wubb right here on FS1.
01:12:43I like when you call it Wubb.
01:12:44I like saying Wubb, too.
01:12:52Ooh, nice.
01:12:53That was bad.
01:12:54Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool here on FS1.
01:12:57Coach Doug Peterson sitting in with us for today's show.
01:12:59This has been so much fun, man.
01:13:01And right now it's time to talk some NFL.
01:13:03And let's start talking about London.
01:13:06And there's plenty of interesting things to get to from the game itself.
01:13:09But before you get there, as the head coach of the Jaguars,
01:13:12you obviously have a ton of London experience.
01:13:16Do you have an anecdote or any particular story that stands out over time
01:13:22in all your trips overseas?
01:13:24Not really.
01:13:25And I hate to even say that because it's pretty cut and dry.
01:13:29In Jacksonville, two years in a row, we spent ten days.
01:13:33We played two games.
01:13:33Ten days.
01:13:35Two games back-to-back over there.
01:13:36So we spent ten days.
01:13:38And it's really a time that your team can kind of grow and come together
01:13:43because all you do is you're in the hotel, you meet in the hotel,
01:13:46you go to practice, your meals are in the hotel, you're still in the hotel.
01:13:51You're around everybody every single day.
01:13:53And it's a tight game.
01:13:55Is it like a bowl game, like on a Tuesday or Wednesday?
01:13:57A little bit like that, yeah.
01:13:58Are you all doing like a team dinner or something?
01:14:01Well, I mean, there's dinner, but we don't do any team bonding things
01:14:05or anything like that.
01:14:06But I think it's just being around each other, just the camaraderie.
01:14:09But by the time you play that second game, are you just –
01:14:11I'm ready to come home.
01:14:12You're ready to come home, but do you play well in that second game
01:14:15or is there a drop-off?
01:14:16No, we play better in the second game because we're there.
01:14:19The first game, you leave on a Thursday night and you get there Friday,
01:14:22so you have Friday, Saturday.
01:14:23So try to get adjusted to the time.
01:14:24Play that first game on Sunday, which is, what, 9.30 Eastern here,
01:14:29so it's like 2.30 or so in the afternoon there.
01:14:33But then you're there all week again, so you're there another seven days.
01:14:36So you do play a little bit better.
01:14:37Your bodies are on, you know.
01:14:40You get your circadian rhythm or whatever, get acclimated.
01:14:44What's the crowd noise kind of compared to like a regular NFL?
01:14:48It depends.
01:14:49It really depends.
01:14:50And so, you know, Wembley Stadium was always our home game in Jacksonville.
01:14:55So we had – you know, you'd have 80,000 folks and, you know, two-thirds are Jags fans.
01:15:01And I'll say this.
01:15:03What I appreciate about the fans in the U.K. and in London and around the world
01:15:08is they're NFL fans, they're football fans.
01:15:11Yeah.
01:15:11You know, it might be Jacksonville versus Buffalo,
01:15:15and it's our home game or their home game, whatever,
01:15:18but you're still going to see like Steelers jersey, Chiefs jersey, Rams jersey.
01:15:22That's always my favorite.
01:15:22They're just cheering for the big plays, too.
01:15:25Every big play, they just cheer.
01:15:26Yeah, they cheer.
01:15:27And it's a lot of fun to see when you're driving into the stadium
01:15:31the different jerseys from, you know, around the NFL because they just love football.
01:15:35Did you ever have a player who maybe got a little too into the pub scene
01:15:39when you were over there?
01:15:40It's a lot of time to be surrounded by delicious pints.
01:15:44It is, but we didn't.
01:15:46I will say this.
01:15:46In 2018, I was the head coach of the Eagles,
01:15:49and we played the Jaguars in London at Wembley Stadium,
01:15:52and they had a couple of incidences with their players caught up
01:15:56in a restaurant sort of bar scene, and it affected them just a little bit.
01:16:02But, no, we didn't have that issue.
01:16:04That's what curfews are for.
01:16:06Yeah, yeah, exactly.
01:16:08Now, when you look at this Sunday's game, Viking Browns,
01:16:12Dylan Gabriel is kind of the headline story here, right?
01:16:14He's going to start Joe Flacco's hitting the bench.
01:16:19Does London help or hurt Gabriel?
01:16:23Is it immaterial?
01:16:24How do you view the combination of those two factors?
01:16:27Well, I think if Coach Stefanski for the Browns is going to make a change,
01:16:31this is a good time to make the change because they're out of the U.S.
01:16:33They're away from Cleveland.
01:16:34They're not playing a road game in the U.S.
01:16:36They're in Europe.
01:16:37They're in London.
01:16:38So if he's going to make this change, this obviously makes sense, right,
01:16:41from a head coaching perspective.
01:16:44And it gets all the distractions away from their football team
01:16:48and really gets Dylan focused in on the game plan
01:16:51and with his teammates and all of that.
01:16:53So it's an interesting time to do this.
01:16:55So I think it kind of can benefit the Browns a little bit,
01:16:58and especially Dylan Gabriel in this situation.
01:17:00But, again, Carson Wentz, this will be his third start, I think, in a row.
01:17:06And, you know, he's played pretty well here the last couple of games.
01:17:11And, you know, it should be a good matchup.
01:17:14I still think Minnesota is probably a little bit better.
01:17:16But I think the Browns defense, too, with Myles Garrett over there.
01:17:20Myles Garrett.
01:17:21Coach, you were saying, you know, that you played that second game usually better.
01:17:24You know, you guys have stayed there.
01:17:25Obviously, this game is in London.
01:17:28The previous game was in Dublin.
01:17:29So with the Vikings, would you consider them to have a little bit more rest
01:17:35and, you know, getting with the time zone change, all of that?
01:17:39Like, what are your thoughts on that?
01:17:40Yeah, I think it definitely benefits Minnesota, you know,
01:17:43staying over there for the extra week.
01:17:44They're going to be well-rested, obviously.
01:17:47Cleveland's going to be pouring into town, you know,
01:17:50and trying to get acclimated.
01:17:52So that part of it definitely helps the team that's been there, you know,
01:17:56the longest.
01:17:57So that definitely favors Minnesota in this game.
01:18:01Coach, you obviously have experience with Carson Wentz.
01:18:04How do you prepare someone like that that used to be, you know,
01:18:09starting at Caliber Super Bowl quarterback,
01:18:12and now he's a backup going in London for the Vikings?
01:18:15What's the mindset to prepare a quarterback like that
01:18:18that has been in these big games, and now he's kind of in that backup role?
01:18:22How do you prepare that player as a coach?
01:18:24Yeah, you know, and this is what you appreciate about guys
01:18:27that you've drafted to be starters, and Carson was that guy in Philadelphia.
01:18:31So he's a starter, and in his mind he's a starter.
01:18:35And so the coaches, you treat him as a starter.
01:18:37And so that's the way Minnesota's going to approach this.
01:18:41He's a starting caliber.
01:18:43He's not a backup quarterback.
01:18:44He's not a role player on this football team.
01:18:47He's a starter.
01:18:48So, you know, in this case, too, it's just getting Carson caught up to speed
01:18:51with the offense, right, and the terminology.
01:18:53How comfortable is he getting with the people around him,
01:18:57with Justin Jefferson and, you know, the run game and all this stuff
01:19:00and, you know, just going into the game and allowing Carson to be Carson, you know,
01:19:06and he's not J.J. McCarthy, and let him be Carson.
01:19:09Do what got Carson, you know, in this position, and they'll have success with that.
01:19:19The Vikings rampaging through London.
01:19:22How historically appropriate.
01:19:24All right, coming up next, let's close out the show with some...
01:19:27Did the Vikings go through London?
01:19:29Yeah, yeah, almost assuredly, right?
01:19:31You don't know where the Vikings went, do you?
01:19:33They raided all of Europe.
01:19:35I don't know where the Vikings went.
01:19:36I don't either, but it sounds right.
01:19:37All right, we got to go to break, we got to go to break, we get back picks, coming up.
01:19:49Welcome back to our Friday Pick Showdown here on Wake Up Barstool.
01:19:52I don't think we need to do the standings, guys, let's just go ahead.
01:19:54Okay, show the standings, show the standings real quick.
01:19:58It was a bad week for me, absolute implosion.
01:20:01Okay, me and Big Cat's also bad, so that's cool.
01:20:03Ooh, Brandon, winning record.
01:20:04Yeah, I thought it was better than that, but now I'm a little humbled.
01:20:08All right, Dana, you're going to play the role of Big Cat once again this week.
01:20:11Yep.
01:20:11Six and nine, nice.
01:20:13What do you got?
01:20:13Let's go.
01:20:14Let's see it.
01:20:15He doesn't know.
01:20:16I am Big Cat, and I have the over in the Boise State Notre Dame game.
01:20:21I almost said Notre Dame.
01:20:22Notre Dame.
01:20:2362 and a half, and then we have Texas, six and a half, over Florida.
01:20:27And we have the Browns versus the Vikings, as we just talked about in London.
01:20:32Browns, plus four and a half.
01:20:33I love that, Big Cat.
01:20:35Now we have the Broncos and Eagles.
01:20:37Broncos, plus three and a half on the road.
01:20:39Finally, my Patriots, over 49 and a half.
01:20:44It's going to be nice and warm in Buffalo this weekend.
01:20:47Bills, Pats, over 49 and a half.
01:20:50That's Big Cat's picks.
01:20:52Brandon, what you got, brother?
01:20:53All right, so we start in college football.
01:20:54I have four college football picks and an NFL pick in college football.
01:20:58I like UAB, plus seven against Army.
01:21:01Army is not a very good team this year.
01:21:04UAB, plus seven.
01:21:06Maryland, plus six and a half against Washington.
01:21:08Washington played decent against Ohio State.
01:21:10They're now going 3,000 miles across the country
01:21:12against a very good young quarterback in Maryland who's undefeated.
01:21:15Maryland, plus six and a half.
01:21:16Alabama thumps Vanderbilt.
01:21:18Alabama, the better team, and Diego Pavia, that talking crap,
01:21:21ain't going to happen two years in a row.
01:21:24Like Michigan State at Nebraska to keep it within 11 and a half.
01:21:27And the Panthers at home over the Miami Dolphins to win that game.
01:21:32The Dolphins, two bad teams.
01:21:35Panthers a little juice at home.
01:21:36I don't remember my picks, so let's put them up.
01:21:38It's the best way to pick, guys.
01:21:39Pure instinct.
01:21:41Buccaneers, plus three and a half.
01:21:42The Seahawks, look, the hook got me here.
01:21:44Baker Mayfield plays close football games.
01:21:46Right?
01:21:47Again, I feel like this will be a field goal game.
01:21:49Chargers, minus two and a half versus Commanders.
01:21:50Kind of going back to, well, after the Chargers let me down last week.
01:21:54In New York, I agree with Brandon on Alabama.
01:21:57We've talked about all over roughness.
01:21:58Brandon, you're Bulldogs, baby.
01:22:01Fifteen and a half on the road in compensation.
01:22:03That's a big number.
01:22:04I'm terrified.
01:22:05To give Jeff Levy and company right now.
01:22:06It's kind of a stinky number, to be honest.
01:22:08And then I know nothing about App State, but I like Hannah Montoya.
01:22:12She's very funny.
01:22:13And sure, Oregon State's not good.
01:22:16App State, minus one and a half.
01:22:17As you can see, Coach.
01:22:18Also not good.
01:22:18There's a reason why I'm not winning the Friday picks.
01:22:22Can I have one pick?
01:22:23Yes.
01:22:24Oh, boy.
01:22:25Oh, here it goes, dude.
01:22:27It's the Cincinnati Bearcats at home, at the NIP, 12 o'clock this weekend.
01:22:33Iowa State, they're undefeated.
01:22:36Brendan Sorsby is the definition of a dog.
01:22:40Sorsby is the man.
01:22:41One and a half.
01:22:43Go Bearcats.
01:22:44Is it really 3,000 miles across the country?
01:22:47Isn't it?
01:22:48I think it is.
01:22:49That was a little far.
01:22:50I think Washington to Washington to Maryland.
01:22:53I think that's 3,000 miles.
01:22:54Somebody look up and see how far it is from Washington to Maryland.
01:22:56That feels like a lot.
01:22:57I think it's 3,000 miles from New York to L.A.
01:22:59I feel like I've always heard, like, 3,000 miles be the cross.
01:23:022,700 miles.
01:23:03Okay.
01:23:03Okay, Coach's point.
01:23:05You called me out just now.
01:23:06I just did.
01:23:06I was like, that seems too far.
01:23:07Coach, are you a Skyline Chili man?
01:23:09I love Skyline Chili.
01:23:10My wife actually makes Skyline Chili at the house.
01:23:12Look at that, dude.
01:23:13What did you say, three-way?
01:23:14What does that mean?
01:23:15Three-way.
01:23:16What is beef?
01:23:18Spaghetti and cheese.
01:23:19And cheese.
01:23:19That's awesome.
01:23:20Hot cheese and some hot sauce.
01:23:21Oh, that's great.
01:23:22It's the best.
01:23:23Yeah.
01:23:23I think it's so much crap.
01:23:24I like all of them.
01:23:25We call that spaghetti.
01:23:26Well, no, there's no red sauce.
01:23:27No, the meat is different.
01:23:29It's more like a chili mac.
01:23:31Me and Coach are on the same page here.
01:23:32Spicy.
01:23:33It's nice.
01:23:34Unbelievable.
01:23:34Why did he have to pull out another hoodie to say Cincinnati when he was wearing a Cincinnati
01:23:37Because that's the lucky one.
01:23:38Because that's the lucky hoodie.
01:23:39It's his one last week.
01:23:40It's the lucky hoodie.
01:23:40A one and O.
01:23:41You're only near half the time.
01:23:42You saw them against Kansas.
01:23:43All right, Coach.
01:23:44Thank you so much, man.
01:23:45This was so much fun.
01:23:46This was seriously awesome.
01:23:47Huge thank you to KDick, Brandon, Beersy, Megan, everybody in production, guys.
01:23:53Another great week here on Wake Up Barstool.
01:23:55Spread the word around.
01:23:56We'll be back on Monday with Dave.
01:23:58More Wub.
01:23:59Later, guys.
01:24:00Have a good weekend.
01:24:00Have a good weekend.
