00:00:00What's going on, world? It is Monday's Wake Up Barstool, which means myself, Brandon Walker, Dave Portnoy, Liam Bluntman, and Meek Phil with you today.
00:00:11Dave had a massive win over the weekend. Patriot Dave continues to steamroll right along as well.
00:00:17Who is the AFC's best team? We'll explore it. We've got the football G-Spot with Greg Olson, Coach John Gruden coming up.
00:00:22Coach Gruden also brings us his shred line.
00:00:24We have Brandon's new Top 10, as well as his winners, Lucas, from the CFB Weekend, and maybe the single greatest baseball game we've ever seen, plus ALCS Game 7 tonight.
00:00:36Let's get a ton to get to, and it all starts now on Wake Up Barstool.
00:00:54Hello, world. What's going on? You see the lineup here, guys. Brandon, Dave. Show the nerds behind the glass. Let's go.
00:01:11Look at our guy, Meek Phil. He's got his Florida gear on. He's gator-chomping. Liam's hot. UCLA winning three in a row.
00:01:19Number one in the country.
00:01:20Okay. I guess we can just say things. Sure. Yeah. Hell yeah, man.
00:01:24We can just say things.
00:01:25Yeah. Yeah. That's great. And, well, look at Dave. Davey right side. Big win on Saturday. Patriots win again. How we feeling, Dave?
00:01:34Good. What was my massive win this weekend? I'm curious.
00:01:36I was going to ask that, too. The number one win you said was Davey. They beat the Titans yesterday.
00:01:40No. I thought he won. I mean, didn't he put 220K on LSU and Vandy?
00:01:44That's what I was wondering. All right. That's what I was wondering. Fine. Yeah.
00:01:47Wait. Hold on.
00:01:48I don't know what you were talking about.
00:01:49No, no, no. I've already shut up. Can I offer a common man's perspective here?
00:01:54What was my massive win when you put 220K on a single game and won?
00:01:59Oh, yeah.
00:02:00Convincingly?
00:02:01That's the difference. I mean, yes, that was my biggest bet of the season.
00:02:04But make no mistake about it.
00:02:05Like, if you told me Patriots, Michigan, or that Vandy win, I'm going with the non-bets.
00:02:13I'm picking the Patriots and Michigan.
00:02:15Those are bigger wins to me.
00:02:16Right now, the Patriots look good.
00:02:20So, it's starting to feel a little bit years ago when I had multiple teams rolling at the same time.
00:02:26The Patriots look great.
00:02:28Granted, they played the Titans, who are terrible.
00:02:30So, that's definitely not a massive win.
00:02:31Good win for Vrabel going back and beating the Titans.
00:02:35And, by the way, we can talk about it later.
00:02:36Maybe I'll bring it up with Greg and Coach when we get the coaches.
00:02:41The fact that the Titans let Vrabel go is one of the dumbest organizational decisions of all time.
00:02:47So, I was happy for him to go in there and whip.
00:02:49The Patriots started a little bit slow.
00:02:51But they're rolling.
00:02:53And they got it all going.
00:02:55They look very good.
00:02:56Michigan needed that win against Washington.
00:02:58They needed it.
00:02:59Coming off getting smoked by USC.
00:03:02The Washington team that was complaining about not being ranked in a little bit.
00:03:07I liked the Coach Fish.
00:03:08You couldn't tell how good they were.
00:03:10They got a good quarterback.
00:03:11Michigan got a thorough beatdown on them.
00:03:14And, to be honest, they look like the Wolverines.
00:03:17And, I know this is the Dave Portnoy section, favorite team section here.
00:03:21But, I'm the only one on this panel who has anybody to talk worth a damn about.
00:03:25I mean, Mississippi State gets a ball lodged in a defensive lineman's face mask to lose a game.
00:03:32LSU gets trounced.
00:03:33You've got to get rid of the coach.
00:03:35Michigan has a very legitimate chance, looking at their schedule, to run this table and have it all on the line versus Ohio State.
00:03:44Because if they beat Ohio State going to feed, they're in the playoff.
00:03:47And, I know, you can't beat Ohio State.
00:03:49Of course we can beat Ohio State.
00:03:51It's the easiest game on our schedule every year.
00:03:53So, things are looking pretty good for the Wolverines coming off that game.
00:03:57Underwood had his best game yet in college.
00:04:00You've got to remember, he's growing in dog years.
00:04:02Every game is seven years on his life quarterback.
00:04:06So, it was a good weekend for me.
00:04:07And, then throw in, I know SEC ball better than anybody else.
00:04:10I knew Vanderbilt would absolutely smush a horrific LSU team.
00:04:16Walker's sitting here, no, this is when LSU wins this game.
00:04:18And, take these brand name SEC teams are not what we expect.
00:04:25So, yeah, it was a good weekend for your boy over here.
00:04:27Okay, okay, okay, Brandon.
00:04:28I know you want to dive into the college stuff.
00:04:30Let's hold on.
00:04:31We can dive into whatever.
00:04:32Can we just not dive into the Patriots in Michigan?
00:04:34We have one of the best baseball.
00:04:35Let's go A&C.
00:04:36Let's go.
00:04:36Hold on, hold on, hold on.
00:04:37Hold on.
00:04:37What did you want to start with, Walker?
00:04:39Here we go.
00:04:40We had the best baseball performance maybe of all time this weekend.
00:04:43We had a lot of stuff going on this weekend.
00:04:45We had big wins.
00:04:46Vanderbilt, I like you starting with Vanderbilt.
00:04:48No, we're going to lead with NFL.
00:04:51We're going to lead with NFL.
00:04:52NFL Sunday.
00:04:52We're going to lead with the game.
00:04:53Craziest game we've ever seen yesterday.
00:04:54Craziest game we've ever seen.
00:04:55And, well, we can talk AFC here because, look, the Patriots are hot right now.
00:04:59Four in a row, three in a row on the road.
00:05:01Yeah.
00:05:01Again, to your point, the craziest part about Vrabel being back in Tennessee yesterday
00:05:06is it's an interim Titans coach.
00:05:09Like, Brian Callahan's already been fired.
00:05:11So, Patriots are hot right now.
00:05:13Chiefs look like they're fully back after playing the Raiders 31-0 yesterday.
00:05:17The Colts continue to look legitimate.
00:05:20Colts moved into my legit Super Bowl contender category.
00:05:26Now, the part of me, when you dominate a team so thoroughly, the way the Colts beat the Chargers,
00:05:31and that score to me is not even indicative of what it is because the Colts weren't just moving the football at will.
00:05:38It looked like there was nobody on the field for half these throws, nobody within 20 yards.
00:05:43They're running up and down the field like this clip right here.
00:05:46What did this guy have?
00:05:48Six touchdowns last night.
00:05:49Danny Dimes looks, like, unbelievable.
00:05:52I thought the Chargers were good.
00:05:53They looked awful.
00:05:55So, I don't know if it was more an indictment on the Chargers or an endorsement on the Colts,
00:05:59but I did move the Colts into that rung of legit Super Bowl contenders.
00:06:04The Chiefs are the team to beat.
00:06:06No doubt.
00:06:06The Chiefs are the team to beat.
00:06:08They got it rolling.
00:06:09They're getting healthy.
00:06:10This is almost, to me, a reverse Chiefs of the last couple years where the Chiefs start slow.
00:06:17I mean, excuse me, start quick, but they start almost feels like leaking oil as the season progresses.
00:06:23They still make a run, but they look beatable.
00:06:26They start slow this year.
00:06:28They're really starting to put it together.
00:06:30They're the team to beat for me.
00:06:32And then you have the Colts, the Patriots.
00:06:34You got to keep the Bills even.
00:06:35I'm sure the Bills will figure out as three teams that can make a run here.
00:06:40Those are my contenders.
00:06:43I think the Colts is a great point, though.
00:06:45The Colts legitimately, every single week, we started off the season not believing that Daniel Jones could be this good
00:06:51and not believing the Colts could be this real.
00:06:53And every single week, they look like they get better and better.
00:06:56And he's right.
00:06:57They didn't just go beat the Chargers.
00:06:58They destroyed the Chargers.
00:06:59From moment one, they were the better team.
00:07:01They're 6-1 now.
00:07:02You got to take a legitimate look at this team, the way they run the ball, the way they play defense, the way they do everything.
00:07:08They have one of the best tight ends in the league.
00:07:09This is a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
00:07:11Yeah.
00:07:12Again, they kind of have the same makeup as when the Eagles are at their best, the same element.
00:07:18It starts on the ground.
00:07:19It starts the other line.
00:07:20Really good defense.
00:07:20But, I mean, it's kind of crazy, guys.
00:07:22You look up.
00:07:23They lead the league in scoring.
00:07:25No one has scored more points in the NFL this year than have the Indianapolis Colts.
00:07:29So they appear legitimate.
00:07:31This stat line, and this is, I mean, were we rotating the stats the whole time?
00:07:35The Colts defeat Chargers 38-24.
00:07:38I saw Herbert like 420 yards.
00:07:40Yeah, 420 yards, career high.
00:07:41The Colts are fraudulent.
00:07:44And I've been a Herbert truther since he came into the league.
00:07:49This guy was supposed to be the number one draft pick.
00:07:52He fell because Oregon stunk his senior year or whatever year he came out.
00:07:56They were wildly disappointing.
00:07:58And last night was a microcosm of this guy.
00:08:02He had to go score for score to keep them in the game.
00:08:07He threw two brutal interceptions.
00:08:09One of them, he misses, I think he missed Ladd McConkie in the back of the end zone.
00:08:12There was nobody within 30 yards of him.
00:08:14Next play, he throws an interception, and they're down 14-21 the other game.
00:08:19And he piles up these garbage yards in a game that was never close.
00:08:23This guy, great.
00:08:23He's dating a superstar.
00:08:25She's very pretty.
00:08:26Madison Beer.
00:08:26I have her cell phone number in my cell phone at one point, too.
00:08:31No big deal.
00:08:33That's just a fact.
00:08:34That's just a fact.
00:08:35We weren't dating, but I did have the number.
00:08:37Fact.
00:08:37Who cares?
00:08:40I'm painting a picture, Walker.
00:08:42That was a fact that nobody needed to know.
00:08:45It's 7-0-8.
00:08:47It is a fact.
00:08:47I don't think our eight viewers out there were like, oh, Dave had Madison Beer's phone number.
00:08:51I think they did.
00:08:53That was a stat I would want to know.
00:08:54It's a real fact.
00:08:56It's a fact.
00:08:57Side note, Gaz and I one time were at the one hotel in Miami at the pool, and she was
00:09:03there, and we were like, she would go up to her, try to get her to do an interview, to
00:09:08do an interview.
00:09:09She came up to us, and she's like, I'm a big fan.
00:09:12So that, you know, I'm not impressed by Herbert.
00:09:15I think I speak for Meek and I when I say thank you, Madison Beer, for being such a big fan of
00:09:20Barstool.
00:09:21We appreciate it.
00:09:22It's well said, Liam.
00:09:22You're right.
00:09:23We love our fans.
00:09:25We love everybody that supports us here.
00:09:27Overrated.
00:09:28The quarterback is overrated.
00:09:30The Chargers offensive line has got off right now.
00:09:33They're injured all hell.
00:09:34They've lost everybody.
00:09:35They got Austin Dekula's start attack.
00:09:36I will see.
00:09:37But I want to get to what was maybe the most insane NFL game I've ever seen.
00:09:43Definitely the most insane NFL fourth quarter I've ever seen.
00:09:46Before we get to that to you, Bob, can I talk about the Kansas City Chiefs?
00:09:49Oh, yeah, absolutely.
00:09:49Go ahead.
00:09:50Meek.
00:09:50Yeah.
00:09:50That's one of, like, the most underrated, like, dominating games in NFL history.
00:09:54The Chiefs ran.
00:09:55The Chiefs had 30 first downs.
00:09:57The Raiders ran 30 plays the entire game.
00:09:59This stat from Aaron Schatz I pulled up, 30 plays is the fewest plays in an NFL game since
00:10:041978.
00:10:05Second fewest.
00:10:06Behind only the 1999 Browns.
00:10:08So it's really one of the worst games in NFL history that just happened at one o'clock
00:10:11on a Sunday.
00:10:12The Chiefs are very good, but the point he is, I think he's also making, is the fact
00:10:16that the bottom of the AFC, where the Raiders are, where the Dolphins are, where the Jets
00:10:19are, is wretched right now.
00:10:21Yeah.
00:10:21And these teams like the Raiders, when they play teams like the Chiefs, they just have
00:10:24no chance whatsoever.
00:10:26It makes you wonder why Pete Carroll came out of retirement to coach this Raiders team
00:10:29and they're literally one of the worst, that's literally one of the worst games in NFL
00:10:32history.
00:10:32And I think what's so shocking about it with the Raiders is they looked good to start the season.
00:10:36They looked okay, whatever.
00:10:37And it's like, you at least thought that Carroll would bring a level of competency.
00:10:42Like those are kind of the week one, week two takes with the Raiders and whatever has
00:10:45happened.
00:10:46Like it is completely falling apart in Las Vegas right now.
00:10:49I've been a Gino Smith truther forever too.
00:10:52I'm a firm believer.
00:10:53If your quarterback is punched in a locker room, he's never going to have the respect of
00:10:57the locker room.
00:10:58I've been a Gino Smith truther for a long time.
00:11:00Yeah.
00:11:00You see a stat on screen.
00:11:01He only had 67 passing yards.
00:11:03All right.
00:11:05Okay.
00:11:06It's Hupify's world.
00:11:07The offensive yards when the Chiefs starters finally checked out of the game, their first
00:11:12string offense, 404 to 48 with two minutes left.
00:11:16All right.
00:11:16We get it.
00:11:17The Raiders, who cares?
00:11:20Okay.
00:11:20We'll go to the Patriots.
00:11:21Drake Mays, unbelievable.
00:11:22No, Giants, Broncos, guys.
00:11:24Okay.
00:11:24We can talk about my football team.
00:11:25Let's get to, yes, Meek's football team, which remains not winning, but really exciting,
00:11:31but also lost in the most insane fashion that we've ever seen.
00:11:36Meek, you like stats?
00:11:36Here's a stat.
00:11:37NFL teams had won 1,602 consecutive games when leading by 18 points in the final six minutes
00:11:48of a game.
00:11:481,600.
00:11:49If we apply that to a 17-game schedule, that is 94 full seasons of football.
00:11:55And your team, the Giants, give up 33 in the fourth quarter alone and find a way to become
00:12:03the first to lose it in over 1,600 opportunities.
00:12:06So can I ask you guys a question?
00:12:09Because I was sort of paying attention to this.
00:12:11Like, I kind of tuned in.
00:12:13I saw the Broncos take the lead late.
00:12:16I saw the Giants get all the way down the field and get the lead back.
00:12:21And then I saw the winning field goal.
00:12:23What happened?
00:12:24And people are going crazy on social media on Dabo.
00:12:28Dabo.
00:12:28They want him gone.
00:12:29Like, that's the number one take I've seen.
00:12:32You've got to fire him.
00:12:33This is the worst thing ever.
00:12:34You have the clip of the player walking into the locker room, basically being like, you
00:12:37played eight in coverage.
00:12:39Was there a singular moment that he did something wrong?
00:12:44Like, how does this happen?
00:12:46Well, it all starts when he has a Rutgers backup kicker that has never attempted a 40-yard
00:12:50field goal, be our kicker, and missed two extra points.
00:12:53It's as simple as that.
00:12:55Well, and that's because your kicker, who a couple weeks ago on this very program, I
00:13:05was saying if your kicker is hurt, you need to cut the kicker and get a good kicker.
00:13:10And what came home to roost?
00:13:12You can't have a kicker who keeps missing games.
00:13:15A kicker should never be hurt.
00:13:16So I did say that.
00:13:17But okay, so you have a bad kicker.
00:13:19He missed two extra points, a field goal.
00:13:21But you're still up a billion points.
00:13:23I know people are complaining he went for two, up 19.
00:13:26I don't know if I have that huge of a problem with that move.
00:13:30I don't know about coaching moves, but like the big mistake was the Jackson Dart pick.
00:13:35Yeah.
00:13:35Who was fantastic the rest of the day.
00:13:37He played great.
00:13:38And he honestly made up for it because he went down there and he drove down.
00:13:41And he got what should have been the game-winning score.
00:13:44Dave, the defense just fell apart.
00:13:45Listen to this drive chart.
00:13:47I've never seen anything like this.
00:13:48This is the Denver Broncos drive chart for the whole game.
00:13:51Punt, punt, punt, punt, downs, punt, punt.
00:13:54That's through three quarters.
00:13:56Right.
00:13:56Then we go touchdown, touchdown, touchdown, touchdown, field goal.
00:14:00So did they just start saying, playing prevent to lose defense?
00:14:04Yes.
00:14:04They were dropping aiding coverage and just letting him go down the field.
00:14:07So, I mean, I don't know how many times.
00:14:09And again, this is a question for Coach Gruden when we get him.
00:14:13This is when people are like, oh, Dave talks too much.
00:14:16He doesn't know.
00:14:16When I sit here and I say, sometimes fans know more about football than these idiotic coaches.
00:14:22Like, how many times have we all sat here and watched teams go into this prevent defense and bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, down the field they go.
00:14:31When the other team couldn't move the ball at all when you're playing your normal defense, you lose track of how many times that happens.
00:14:39So, and this is how things like this happen.
00:14:41You stop bringing pressure.
00:14:43You're afraid of getting beaten deep.
00:14:44But guess what?
00:14:45It was working the whole game.
00:14:46And you switch to these Swiss cheese defenses.
00:14:49Yeah.
00:14:50And Bo Nix is now the first player in NFL history to rush for two touchdowns and throw for two touchdowns in a fourth quarter.
00:14:57So it is an utter collapse by the Giants.
00:14:59But give Bo Nix.
00:15:00Bo Nix has some magic.
00:15:01I know, dude.
00:15:02It's crazy, dude.
00:15:03He looked terrible.
00:15:04He looked awful for three quarters.
00:15:06Fourth quarter hits.
00:15:07He's all of a sudden Joe Montana, Michael Vick.
00:15:09He's everything you want.
00:15:10It's John Elway, the comeback kid.
00:15:12Yeah, like it was crazy.
00:15:1233 points.
00:15:13I mean, it requires an epic collapse by the defense, but it also requires the offense to get it going.
00:15:19And this quarterback got it going.
00:15:20Yeah.
00:15:21But again, that begs the question.
00:15:23And I didn't watch because who was watching that closely when it's, you know, a massacre.
00:15:28But if you're not rushing the quarterback and you're playing a Swiss cheese defense, you let a guy get in rhythm and then it's almost too late.
00:15:37So I just don't keep that pressure.
00:15:40And that's what, that's what, I don't know the guy who was walking that clip, who was walking the locker room.
00:15:45I know I'm going to show it later, but he said, why are we dropping eight in coverage?
00:15:49Brian Burns, yeah.
00:15:50Yeah.
00:15:50Anybody, if you rush three, you turn, you know, Mississippi State into the greatest show on turf.
00:15:57Like, you have to rush the quarterback.
00:16:00Yeah, it's an underrated skill for a coach in the NFL to be able to close out a game, right?
00:16:04Yeah.
00:16:05Like, coaches who lose their jobs are the coaches who blow leads, who do this routinely, and this might be a guy who's going to lose his job.
00:16:11Yeah, it's almost the ultimate skill.
00:16:13And who better to ask about that than our coach, Coach John Gruden.
00:16:17We got the football G-Spot coming up next, guys.
00:16:19It's Greg Olson.
00:16:20It's John Gruden.
00:16:21It's Dave.
00:16:21It's every single way.
00:16:22It's excellent.
00:16:23And it's right here on Wake Up Barstool on FS1.
00:16:26Don't go anywhere.
00:16:27We're at G-Spot coming up next.
00:16:28Gruden will just tell us how great Kirby Smart is.
00:16:37What's happening?
00:16:38Welcome back.
00:16:38Wake Up Barstool.
00:16:39We do it every single Monday.
00:16:41It's time for the football G-Spot.
00:16:44I love football.
00:16:46Knock on wood if you're with me, everybody.
00:16:47Can I finish my point?
00:16:52All right.
00:16:53We got Greg.
00:16:54We got Coach in here.
00:16:55And hopefully the microphones are on this week because Walker was crying like a baby that he was shut off.
00:17:00So if you guys want to jump in, let's get right in.
00:17:03We were just talking about the biggest comeback, really, statistically, they've had in the NFL with the Giants-Broncos yesterday.
00:17:11And we were trying to dissect in the last segment, how does that even happen?
00:17:16Like, what the Giants fans are calling for the coach.
00:17:20So I'm going to start with you, Coach Gruden.
00:17:23Is it the coach's fault this happens?
00:17:26How do you blow that type of lead with six minutes?
00:17:28As we see so many times, I do believe people always say fans aren't smarter than the coaches.
00:17:34And you know we critique.
00:17:35I see this prevent defense, prevent you from winning.
00:17:39Where teams get a lead, they go back, they allow a guy to get hot.
00:17:42How do you blow a lead like this?
00:17:45Well, when you look at it, the clock is the only enemy.
00:17:48When you have a 19-point lead, the clock is the only enemy.
00:17:51It's a three-possession game.
00:17:53So I think you've got to go all the way back to the start of the fourth quarter.
00:17:57When you're on offense, you take that clock down to three or four seconds,
00:18:01starting at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
00:18:04I think there was another occasion on a third down late in the game.
00:18:08They threw an incomplete pass to stop the clock.
00:18:11You left Denver with a timeout.
00:18:13But you have to milk every single second.
00:18:15And when you lose a game like this, the coach is going to be at fault.
00:18:18But there's a lot of people at fault.
00:18:20And they weren't playing a prevent defense the entire fourth quarter.
00:18:24That vaunted pass rush of the New York Giants,
00:18:27they've got to take a big responsibility for this, Dave.
00:18:30These are high draft choices.
00:18:32Dexter Lawrence, Thibodeau, you've got Brian Burns, you've got Abdul Carter.
00:18:37That's what you're here to do.
00:18:39Close this game out.
00:18:40They did not do it.
00:18:42And Sean Payton is a world championship coach.
00:18:44And they played and called the game differently when they were under the gun.
00:18:49They were a lot more aggressive.
00:18:51They had four downs to get a first down.
00:18:53The Giants have a lot of people that are at fault today when you blow a lead like that
00:18:58in a game like that.
00:19:00Greg, you ever been part of anything like that?
00:19:04No, it was hard for me.
00:19:05I stopped watching it.
00:19:06I was in the airport.
00:19:07I stopped watching it.
00:19:08They just went up 20 to nothing.
00:19:09And then I saw it was like 28-6 to, or whatever, 28.
00:19:13It was 28-nothing.
00:19:14I saw it was 28-nothing, and then 28-19, whatever.
00:19:19And I was like, all right, it's over.
00:19:21And then all of a sudden, I checked my phone at the airport.
00:19:23I saw that Denver went back up.
00:19:25I put the game back on and watched it on the plane.
00:19:28And then Dart brings them down.
00:19:29They get the PI call.
00:19:31They go down.
00:19:31They take the lead again with 40 seconds or whatever, 50 seconds.
00:19:34And you're like, all right.
00:19:35Could have been a catastrophic meltdown.
00:19:37And then they do that.
00:19:40When I saw them line up with three down, no timeouts for Denver, first play, the drive.
00:19:46And I saw them line up with three downs.
00:19:48I had like crazy flashbacks.
00:19:50I called their game way back early in the year in Dallas that they had the game won,
00:19:56knowing Brandon Aubrey's got the best leg in the game.
00:19:59They played super soft coverage there, let them complete a pass.
00:20:03I think it was to Ferguson, get around right around midfield.
00:20:06And then he kicked the 64-yarder to force overtime, and they lost.
00:20:09So they've done this now a couple times at the end of the game.
00:20:13And Coach is right, though.
00:20:14Like, when you have that big of a lead, you're just doing a math equation about how many possessions
00:20:19your opponent needs.
00:20:20Then you factor in that the Giants actually scored again, which makes the math even that
00:20:24much harder to believe that you give up that lead.
00:20:26You need to milk every second off the play clock.
00:20:28You don't need to go into burn the clock mode on offense, but you do need to work the
00:20:33play clock.
00:20:33They clocked that ball to kick the field goal with two seconds left.
00:20:38You know how many plays were run in that fourth quarter to burn two seconds, and you win the
00:20:44game?
00:20:45So I think Coach is right about management, players.
00:20:47That's a complete team organizational failure.
00:20:51Kickers, extra points.
00:20:53They went for two, which cost them, you know, when they were up 19, they went for two.
00:20:58Did you have a problem with that?
00:20:59I didn't have a problem with them going for two there.
00:21:01No, so again, there's a lot of factors.
00:21:04I know a lot of these new analytics, like you want to go for two earlier, so you know
00:21:08what the game is.
00:21:09You missed an extra point.
00:21:11I think teams sometimes overcorrect.
00:21:13They chase that point.
00:21:15I mean, you make that game 20 to nothing.
00:21:19That point now you tie.
00:21:20So you missed two extra points and a two-point conversion, and you lost by one.
00:21:26If you do the math, I mean, it's hard.
00:21:29My main thing on it, and I disagree, and this is, I think teams start, and I don't get
00:21:35it, and Coach said it.
00:21:36It's like, well, you're down 19, and you start playing aggressive, and you can move the football
00:21:41suddenly.
00:21:42I don't, it never ceases to amaze me.
00:21:45When teams have to start putting points on the board, they start calling plays differently,
00:21:50and suddenly, poof, they start moving the football, and what every fan does, like, well, why weren't
00:21:55you doing that the whole game?
00:21:57It seems like a common sense thing to me, and I think teams start playing the clock.
00:22:02I have no problem bringing the play clock down, but I want to go run, run, pass, still pick
00:22:08up first downs, and try, and you go run, run, pass, it's really hard to pick up first downs
00:22:12in this league.
00:22:12Oh, no.
00:22:13Yeah, so again, Coach has called a lot more plays than I have, but just from a player's
00:22:17perspective, at no point, I don't care how much you're up.
00:22:20Until you get to the last couple minutes of the game in a multi-score game, when they
00:22:23just don't have enough possessions to catch you, that's a different animal.
00:22:27First downs don't matter.
00:22:28You bleed the clock.
00:22:29Whether they get the ball back or not, it doesn't matter.
00:22:31But the entire fourth quarter, no, I'm not suggesting it's run, run, pass, run, run,
00:22:36pass, and after every play, you look up at the scoreboard.
00:22:38Just something as simple as, don't snap the ball with 10 seconds on the play clock.
00:22:44Don't snap the ball with 12 seconds on the play clock.
00:22:47That's all I'm saying.
00:22:47I don't think you can change your play calling.
00:22:50I think stay aggressive, throw on early downs.
00:22:53Whatever you've been doing, do it.
00:22:55But something as simple as, break the huddle with 10 seconds, run up to the line, get set,
00:23:00snap it.
00:23:01That's easy to do.
00:23:02You can do that in middle school football.
00:23:04So that, I think they needed to do more.
00:23:06Again, I didn't watch every second of the game to know whether or not they did it on
00:23:10every snap or some snaps.
00:23:11But you're talking two seconds you needed to burn out of that entire game, and you win.
00:23:16The flip side of that.
00:23:18You've got to look at it like this, too.
00:23:19I mean, you're in a four-corner offense.
00:23:21You saw this with North Carolina basketball when Dean Smith was the coach.
00:23:25You get everybody on the sideline.
00:23:27You say, look, we're in the four-minute drill a little earlier than we thought we'd be.
00:23:32But we're going to stay in bounds.
00:23:34You've got to emphasize to your players, stay in bounds.
00:23:37Keep the clock running.
00:23:39If you do throw the ball, high percentage passes.
00:23:42We've got to keep the clock running.
00:23:43And I saw this in the Super Bowl when Portnoy was doing cartwheels after New England came
00:23:49back to beat Atlanta.
00:23:50They're snapping the ball too early.
00:23:52You've got to snap the ball within four or five seconds.
00:23:56The only enemy is the clock.
00:23:58And let me be honest with you, too.
00:23:59Pressure, guys, pressure impacts people a lot differently.
00:24:04The kicker of the Giants, he felt the pressure.
00:24:07He didn't apply the pressure.
00:24:09I feel like the Giants felt pressure a little bit on defense.
00:24:13They couldn't get a stop.
00:24:15And the only reason you rush three guys is you're defending the sidelines.
00:24:19You're keeping them in bounds.
00:24:21You're using extra defenders to keep the ball in play so the clock winds out.
00:24:26You're a rush three guy.
00:24:27You should have covered better.
00:24:28And just because you rush three doesn't mean your three rushers are sucking their thumb.
00:24:34Hit the quarterback.
00:24:35You would rush three?
00:24:36Three times.
00:24:37You would rush three?
00:24:39I'm not saying I would always rush three.
00:24:40Because they're going to take all those college jobs and start crossing you off the list if
00:24:44you're saying you're rushing three.
00:24:46I said there's a place for it.
00:24:47When you have no timeouts and just seconds left, you should never give up a 25-yard play,
00:24:54back-to-back plays, when you've got eight guys in coverage against four eligible receivers.
00:24:59No way.
00:25:00Kirby's got an assistant coaching job for him.
00:25:02Rush in three.
00:25:03I'm not going to win in this conversation.
00:25:05I know that.
00:25:06Rush in three.
00:25:07There's a lot of people that screwed it up yesterday, not just the coach.
00:25:11Let me tell you something, Coach.
00:25:12I'm going to give you a little.
00:25:13And you've been doing a long time.
00:25:14I've been watching a long time.
00:25:16Pressure will make you get the football out faster if you sit there with three and let
00:25:21them go downfield.
00:25:23I bet if we had a mathematical nerd who did math, how many teams have blown leads, and you
00:25:30tracked it to how many pass rushers they would have, almost 97% of the time, it's rushing
00:25:36three.
00:25:37Even the Giants guy in the locker room was yelling it when they were walking in.
00:25:40Do we have that clip?
00:25:41He was literally yelling it to nobody.
00:25:43We're dropping eight.
00:25:45He's yelling it walking in.
00:25:47Play that clip.
00:25:48We have it.
00:25:49There it is.
00:25:58The trumpet ain't covered.
00:26:00He's talking directly at you.
00:26:02You know what?
00:26:03If they'd have played man-to-man and brought four or five guys and thrown it over somebody's
00:26:07head, you guys would be on here bitching about that.
00:26:10You know, the bottom line is you've got to play the defense that's called, and you've
00:26:14got to play it with great detail.
00:26:16And the Giants didn't do it, period, end of story, and they paid for it.
00:26:20I like watching Greg Olsen's face while Dave Portnoy explains to John Gruden how to coach
00:26:24football.
00:26:25I love it.
00:26:27This is about this.
00:26:28Go, Greg.
00:26:29No, listen.
00:26:30My first reaction when I saw them line up three was like, oh, no.
00:26:34Yes.
00:26:35And the only, now let me just say this.
00:26:37I don't, I'm not also of the school of thought where there's only one way to do it,
00:26:41right?
00:26:41It's not, you can never rush three.
00:26:43You only can play zone.
00:26:45You can't play, man.
00:26:46I think teams need to do what they do.
00:26:49And when you watch this Giants game, I've only had them once this year, but I've watched
00:26:52pieces of different games.
00:26:55If you say, okay, what is the strength of my defense?
00:26:57With the game on the line, I'm going to lean into the strength of my defense, and that's
00:27:01going to where we're going to hang our hat.
00:27:02And if we lose, we lose.
00:27:04The strength of that defense is the front.
00:27:06The strength of that defense is their four-man rush.
00:27:09The strength of that defense is getting after the quarterback.
00:27:11So with the game on the line, me personally, I'm going to lean into what we do best, which
00:27:16is get the ball out of the quarterback's hand, rally tackle, and get that, and to coach's
00:27:21point, keep that clock rolling, make them get up.
00:27:24And if they clock it, they clock it.
00:27:25They might have a play or two left.
00:27:27If I'm a coverage team, and the best players on my team are my back end and my secondary
00:27:32defenders, and they really play zone concepts well, or they really play man defense, whatever
00:27:36their strengths are, that's going to be my game on the line call.
00:27:40So I'm always of the, when all hell breaks loose, what is the strength of that unit?
00:27:45And I'm going to pin my hopes on that.
00:27:46And if I go down, I'm going to go down swinging with what I do well.
00:27:49I don't think that's what the Giants do.
00:27:52Again, I didn't watch the whole game.
00:27:53I don't think they lined up with three down rushers the entire game.
00:27:57I think that was the only snap.
00:27:59So you just played an entire game, and with the most critical moment, the drive starter of
00:28:05a two-minute drive, number one play of a two-minute drill, you did something you haven't done
00:28:10all year.
00:28:11That's my bigger issue.
00:28:12Whether it was three or four, it was just out of ordinary.
00:28:16Yeah, I have the statistics of how many sacks, T-Bone, how many times did they sack this
00:28:22Bo Nix in the fourth quarter?
00:28:23How many times did they hit Bo Nix with this vaunted four-man rush you guys are talking about?
00:28:28I watched them against Dallas, Dave.
00:28:31They had a big lead.
00:28:32They couldn't get anything done, and I watched the tape with this vaunted four-man rush.
00:28:37When we had Simeon Rice and Sapp, we had no doubt we were going to hit the quarterback
00:28:41and end the day.
00:28:42Watch Micah Parsons yesterday, what he did for Green Bay.
00:28:46He ended the day.
00:28:47That's what you're paid to do.
00:28:48I want to know how many sacks, how many hits they had on Bo Nix in the fourth quarter because
00:28:53he put together the most historic fourth quarter in history.
00:28:57He threw for two and ran for two.
00:28:59Where were they?
00:29:00I want to hear that stat.
00:29:01Yeah, well, I'd like to see what defense is.
00:29:03I'm curious.
00:29:05They dominate for three quarters, and they start looking at the clock and play differently.
00:29:10And by the way, Brandon Walker, you should be on the other side.
00:29:13I don't like, I've said this a million times, well, I've never played the game, and these
00:29:17guys are, we've got a Hall of Fame coach and a Hall of Fame player, and we've got this,
00:29:21and I can't say this.
00:29:22Well, if these executives, all these players are so smart, you tell me, how did the Tennessee
00:29:26Titans fire Mike Vrabel?
00:29:28Somebody who had an NFL job, somebody who's getting paid to be an expert in the NFL fired
00:29:35a coach who everyone's like, are you nuts firing this guy?
00:29:38And what happened?
00:29:39He walked right across the road to Foxborough, and we're back, and we're ready to go.
00:29:43And so I don't buy, oh, well, you're just a fan.
00:29:48We have franchises, the Cleveland Browns, who did win, but you have franchises who can't
00:29:53get out of their own way.
00:29:54So there's morons running these franchises who are paid to be experts in this sport.
00:30:00So what are they, smarter than me?
00:30:02I mean, they're absolute idiots.
00:30:04Half the league can't win a game.
00:30:06You said it earlier, Brandon, the New York Jets, the Miami Dolphins.
00:30:10We have some of the worst teams in this league we've ever seen.
00:30:14So they're smarter at football than me?
00:30:16No, they're morons.
00:30:19So, no, the thing is, I actually agree with the point you were making, just the preposterous
00:30:24notion that I am watching Dave Portnoy talk down to John Gruden when it comes to coaching
00:30:28football.
00:30:28It's crazy.
00:30:29I'm not talking down, but there is a belief.
00:30:32Also, Gruden, make sure.
00:30:33Like, fans, you're a fan.
00:30:34What do you know?
00:30:35I'm in the league.
00:30:36You're just a, you're working at Joe Burger King.
00:30:39Well, there's a lot of really bad franchises.
00:30:41Everybody makes a decision with the New York Jets.
00:30:44What are they, stupid?
00:30:45Yes.
00:30:46And now to flip it, the Colts.
00:30:48Colts destroy the Chargers.
00:30:50We had a discussion.
00:30:51I elevated them into potential Super Bowl contender list.
00:30:55I added them.
00:30:56We've talked about it every week.
00:30:57That Colts-Chargers game, was that more an endorsement for you guys of the Colts or an
00:31:02indictment of the Chargers?
00:31:03Because the Colts ran them out of that building.
00:31:0614 points doesn't really tell the story.
00:31:09They could have beaten them by 100.
00:31:10I'll start with you, coach.
00:31:12Well, I think the Chargers are not the same team without their two starting tackles.
00:31:16They've got some injuries in the backfield.
00:31:18They're not the same team on defense either, Dave.
00:31:21They just don't look like they can create any pass rush consistently.
00:31:25And I'll say this about those yellow uniforms.
00:31:27I would not have come out of the locker room.
00:31:30There's no way you're going to win a championship looking like that.
00:31:33It starts there.
00:31:35That was a horrific look for a football team coached by Coach Harbaugh.
00:31:39But they're getting the quarterback killed.
00:31:41If it's not for Herbert, this team doesn't win a game.
00:31:44I mean, they were lucky to beat Miami last week.
00:31:47They were down by a point or two with 50 seconds left.
00:31:50And if Miami doesn't blow that game, this team has lost four straight games.
00:31:54But I think the big story is the Colts.
00:31:57Daniel Jones has come back to life and carried this team.
00:32:02And Shane Steichen, when I watch all these tapes, whatever it's worth, Shane Steichen's
00:32:07as good a play caller and play designer as there is in football.
00:32:11He's done a hell of a job.
00:32:12Greg?
00:32:14I agree with especially that last part.
00:32:16I think Shane Steichen's a stud.
00:32:17I felt that way when he was in Philly before he got this job.
00:32:21He obviously was their coordinator the year they went to the Super Bowl.
00:32:25We covered that with them.
00:32:26Obviously, they lost, but you walked away from talking to him, being in those production
00:32:30meetings, and you walked away saying, okay, this guy's got a pretty good feel of not only
00:32:35X's and O's, not only football, but managing quarterbacks, managing personalities, messaging.
00:32:41I've been impressed with Shane Steichen for a while.
00:32:43He kind of disappeared from the national kind of scene just because the Colts weren't overly
00:32:48competitive the last couple of years.
00:32:50And then obviously the work that he's done with Daniel Jones, who I've always been, again,
00:32:56I'm biased.
00:32:56He's a Charlotte kid.
00:32:57I've known him for a long time.
00:32:59I've always thought Daniel Jones was better than the product that was going on in New York.
00:33:04Partly his own doing, but also partly just the chaos of what was going on around him.
00:33:09I'm happy that he has gotten there.
00:33:11It kind of reminds me of like a Darnold with Kevin O'Connell type idea where the right player
00:33:15in the right system with the right type of coach that understands which buttons to push
00:33:19and levers to pull bring out the best.
00:33:22Tyler Warren, that tight end, the rookie tight end is incredible.
00:33:27I mean, I don't know if he's still, is he leading the league?
00:33:29And is he leading the league for tight ends as a rookie?
00:33:32I think he is, right?
00:33:33Yeah.
00:33:33T-bone's on.
00:33:34I think he was.
00:33:35He was as of a week or two ago.
00:33:37But anyway, I mean, he is a flat out stud.
00:33:40He can do a lot in the passing game.
00:33:42He's good enough that they can keep him in the field, keep him on the field in the run
00:33:45game.
00:33:46Obviously, Jonathan Taylor and them.
00:33:47So I think for as good as the Chargers looked early and they've kind of regressed, coach
00:33:53mentioned all the injuries and whatnot.
00:33:54I think one of the best stories in just the entire NFL is Daniel Jones, Shane Steichen, and
00:34:01the Indianapolis Colts, because I think they're for real.
00:34:04All right.
00:34:04Last topic before we let you go.
00:34:06Shifting gears.
00:34:07This went viral.
00:34:08I haven't had a chance to talk about it yet, but it's my guy, Bill Belichick, again.
00:34:12Now, he's working on a podcast here, and he's in NFL Film Studios, and this goes viral
00:34:21on Friday.
00:34:22Is Jordan calling the shots, dictating what they talk about the red zone?
00:34:26Can we plug numbers into?
00:34:28Well, we'll get somebody else to do it.
00:34:30We could use Adobe Photoshop, and honestly, this is something I've done before with what
00:34:35you're calling a template.
00:34:36Okay, so Adobe Photoshop, and we have last week's thing, and then you literally just go back
00:34:40and say, oh, rather than Joe Montana, you just go click, click, click, click on the delete
00:34:45button, and then type in a new name.
00:34:46It's already formatted.
00:34:47It's already this, and you just upload it.
00:34:49You take a screenshot of that screen, and then just upload it, and it takes literally
00:34:52like three minutes to do it.
00:34:53I mean, I was able to build out his entire website with animations, with all of these
00:34:58things.
00:34:59I have zero, you know, real graphic experience, and he has a live website with all of these
00:35:04things on it.
00:35:05It was just a matter of, you know, pressing some things around.
00:35:08It's like, oh, well, if you don't like that, we'll just...
00:35:10And then we're adjusting the end, as long as this clip.
00:35:11Right.
00:35:11Yeah, we can kill the clip.
00:35:13It was pretty element.
00:35:14We didn't even get the red zone.
00:35:15Now, I want to start here.
00:35:18I found this clip.
00:35:22I wasn't as crazy as everyone.
00:35:25Oh, my God, what's going on?
00:35:26He's being running.
00:35:28He doesn't know first thing about the internet.
00:35:29I was more like, I think this is, if this happened to me, if this was I'm whispering
00:35:35with somebody in a meeting, and it was leaked, this would become priority number one of mine
00:35:41to murder whoever leaked this clip.
00:35:43That would be what I...
00:35:45I didn't think this was anything that outstanding that it took the internet by storm here.
00:35:51Like, yeah, it's clear Jordan is involved in his life.
00:35:54And by the way, they followed this up, UNC, with their best game of the season.
00:35:58They should have actually beaten Cal.
00:35:59They fumbled going in.
00:36:01What was your guys' reaction?
00:36:02I thought this was a bad rap for Belichick.
00:36:05People are out to get him right now.
00:36:07But who films this?
00:36:09Imagine being in a meeting where you think you're just...
00:36:11There wasn't anything that crazy in that clip.
00:36:13And people literally were acting like it was the craziest thing they've ever seen.
00:36:16Greg, start with you.
00:36:18Yeah.
00:36:19I'll be honest.
00:36:19When I first saw it, and I didn't see that clip.
00:36:23You know, there's a million different clips going around.
00:36:25I saw one about his, like, principles of winning or something about score touchdowns and don't
00:36:30kick field goals.
00:36:31And she was challenging.
00:36:32That was the clip that I saw.
00:36:33I was kind of disinterested in it.
00:36:35I watched it for 30 seconds and said, this is silly.
00:36:38My takeaway was also, if you filmed every production meeting that I was in, if you filmed
00:36:43every pregame meeting that we're sitting around in the booth kicking out ideas and people are
00:36:47sharing, and I say, I wouldn't want some of that air too, right?
00:36:51You're just brainstorming.
00:36:52You're kicking things into the air.
00:36:53You say things that are wrong.
00:36:55You say things that are right.
00:36:56People are fact-checking you.
00:36:57You're trying to get your story straight before you go on air or, you know, in this case,
00:37:01a podcast, yeah, that's my biggest takeaway.
00:37:05I think there's a lot of people that are creating really interesting content.
00:37:08I just think about it from my own perspective, going on air to prepare to call a game.
00:37:12Coach knows this firsthand.
00:37:13Like, there's a lot of people giving you advice.
00:37:16There's a lot of people that are giving you pointers.
00:37:18I still sometimes don't know how to work the telestrator.
00:37:21And you think I want that film, some tech coming in and teaching me how to update my telestrator?
00:37:26I'd look like a fool.
00:37:27So, like, I don't know.
00:37:29I think it's a lot to do with nothing I do think he's got a target on his back.
00:37:32I think the college football community, for whatever reason, sees him as an outsider.
00:37:37And it feels like there's just a lot of negative acts to grind against him.
00:37:42I think people have seen him win for a long time.
00:37:44And now, in typical society, they like that he's kind of down and they're going to kick him
00:37:48because they haven't been able to do it for 20 years.
00:37:52I think there's a lot of personal vendetta stuff going on right now against Belichick.
00:37:56What do you think, Coach?
00:37:58I like to have Portnoy said, they played a great game.
00:38:02They should have won.
00:38:03The Giants should have won.
00:38:06Well, what are you doing at the end of the game for crying out loud?
00:38:09That should be the whole story.
00:38:11The guy fumbled the ball at the end of the game.
00:38:14They should have won.
00:38:15The Giants should have won if they just compressed their coverage on the freaking wideouts.
00:38:20You're going to preach to me about should have won when I've heard about the snowball
00:38:25every single day since we hired you in the tuck.
00:38:29I get tired of talking about this North Carolina team.
00:38:33We have a Super Bowl ring that says we won.
00:38:36I'll leave you with that.
00:38:37Should have won.
00:38:38Of all people, I've heard about that snowball game.
00:38:41Well, you stole that.
00:38:42We should have won that one.
00:38:44You didn't win.
00:38:45We have the Lombardi trophy.
00:38:46I took pictures with it at the beginning of the season.
00:38:49It launched a dynasty.
00:38:50Should have won.
00:38:51They should have won.
00:38:52Thank you, guys.
00:38:55There it is.
00:38:56Another electric football G-spot.
00:39:00Hell yeah, man.
00:39:01Coming up next, T-Bone and the boys will return.
00:39:04T-Bone.
00:39:05It's a great college football talk.
00:39:07BFW's winners and losers, as well as new top 10.
00:39:09Should have won.
00:39:10On FS1.
00:39:11Should have won.
00:39:11I heard that.
00:39:12The snowball should have won.
00:39:14You the man, T-Bone.
00:39:15Ha, ha, ha.
00:39:18Off the routes on.
00:39:2113 yards a catch for Tyler Warren.
00:39:23There it is, guys.
00:39:25Brandon Walker's brand new top 10 in the CFB.
00:39:30Meek Phil's favorite segment of each week.
00:39:32Brandon, look at that top 10.
00:39:34Yeah, thank you, T-Bone.
00:39:35So, we got Ohio State.
00:39:36Again, they're just rolling.
00:39:37They're just killing everybody.
00:39:39Indiana.
00:39:40T-Bone?
00:39:40I'm just, I'm super.
00:39:42That's what John Gruden called you, Coach T-Bone.
00:39:44And you said, yes, sir, Coach Gruden.
00:39:46I love Coach Gruden and suck Coach Gruden more than anybody in this company.
00:39:50What?
00:39:51And he thinks my name's T-Bone.
00:39:53I've got Alabama number three.
00:39:55And it's really, I got them over A&M.
00:39:56A&M is undefeated.
00:39:57They struggled against Arkansas.
00:39:59They won by three points, even though they kind of won by 10.
00:40:01But I got Alabama there as a reward for beating four straight ranked teams.
00:40:05Saturday night against Tennessee, they were excellent.
00:40:07Yeah, they were great.
00:40:08They won that game with ease.
00:40:09Florida State lost to Stanford this weekend, Walker.
00:40:13Come on, man.
00:40:15Florida State's not, Florida State is irrelevant at this point, all right?
00:40:18Alabama.
00:40:18Alabama.
00:40:19Listen, listen, I know what you're saying, but the teams right now are not the same teams
00:40:24that opened the season.
00:40:24Alabama's won four straight ranked games, a couple on the road.
00:40:28Alabama gets the credit for doing it.
00:40:30Dave broke me, so put the graphic back up there because I wasn't even finished.
00:40:33I wasn't even to the back half.
00:40:34You weren't even to the back half.
00:40:35I've got Oregon at number five.
00:40:37I've got Georgia at number six.
00:40:38They beat Ole Miss.
00:40:39Vanderbilt's all the way up to seven.
00:40:40Because Vanderbilt, to me, is the biggest winner of the weekend because they are no longer
00:40:45a cute story.
00:40:46And to his credit, Dave said it last week, this is a better team than people are giving
00:40:50them credit for.
00:40:50They have the one loss against Alabama, but if you watch that game, they lost by 16 points,
00:40:55but they didn't really lose by 16 points.
00:40:56Pavia turned it over in the red zone twice.
00:40:59Vanderbilt is a very good team, and it sets up Vanderbilt this week against Missouri, who's
00:41:03my number 11 team.
00:41:05Missouri also just lost to Alabama, but Vanderbilt-Missouri is a sneaky big game.
00:41:10Yes, Blutman, your hand is raised.
00:41:12Did you make a mistake?
00:41:14With what?
00:41:14Putting Georgia Tech in there?
00:41:16Well, yeah.
00:41:17He has plummeted Miami into, like, number 93.
00:41:21Where's Miami?
00:41:22Miami's like 11-12.
00:41:24Miami's not 11.
00:41:25You said someone else number 11.
00:41:26That's fine.
00:41:27I did put them.
00:41:27You said Missouri 11, Notre Dame 12.
00:41:29That's fine.
00:41:30UYU.
00:41:31I did put them right outside.
00:41:33Miami didn't fall far.
00:41:34I think Miami's still in shape.
00:41:35They fell very far.
00:41:36They were number three.
00:41:37They were number two.
00:41:38I love you, Brian Walker.
00:41:41This is not my segment to rip you apart.
00:41:44Throwing Miami out to the trash after you had them in the Ohio State tier feels a bit
00:41:52overreactionary to a classic Miami Friday night look.
00:41:55I would have thrown Ole Miss out, to be fair.
00:41:57It probably is, to be honest.
00:41:58It probably is a little reactionary, but somebody's got to stand up and punish Miami in the short
00:42:02term for losing to Louisville when they had everything to play for.
00:42:06They're at home on a Friday night, and they blow it once again.
00:42:08Miami.
00:42:09They do.
00:42:09I still think Miami is a very good team.
00:42:11I still think Miami is going to cruise to the playoffs in the ACC, but dang it, Miami,
00:42:15at some point, finish the drill.
00:42:17Finish the drill, Miami.
00:42:18Well, it's not a Miami thing this year.
00:42:20Carson Beck is Carson Beck.
00:42:22Carson Beck.
00:42:23Carson Beck.
00:42:23Carson Beck with the pressure.
00:42:25Good point.
00:42:25He's going to give you the football.
00:42:27He did it his entire career at Georgia, and that looked like the Carson Beck that played
00:42:31at Georgia, just turning the ball over.
00:42:34What do you have, four interceptions?
00:42:35Yeah.
00:42:36Give me a break.
00:42:37You're not going to win games.
00:42:38And by the way, when you lose 24 to 21, when you lose by a field goal and your quarterback
00:42:43has thrown four interceptions, that's tough.
00:42:47That's all in the quarterback.
00:42:48He is who he is.
00:42:49BYU's undefeated.
00:42:50You've got to put them up there.
00:42:51Alabama, listen, nobody, and I know the two SEC guys aren't going to want to say it.
00:42:59Nobody has a beat on the SEC like this guy right here.
00:43:03I'm calling it every single week.
00:43:05I'm telling you what's happening every single week.
00:43:08Alabama, you have too high.
00:43:10Alabama, like you said, they could have lost to Vandy, two turnovers in the red zone.
00:43:16And that game against Tennessee, I mean, that play call when you go 98 yards the other
00:43:21way, absolutely moronic by Tennessee.
00:43:25Their timeout situation, when you line up with that heavy backfield, but everybody in
00:43:30the world knows you cannot run the football and is down because you don't have the time
00:43:35outs.
00:43:36If you run it up the middle and get stuffed, it's over.
00:43:39You're obviously throwing the ball and they sat on the most obvious play and run it back.
00:43:44This flips the entire game on its head.
00:43:47It's a haymaker that ends it.
00:43:48The game's over.
00:43:49The game's over at that point.
00:43:50It's like, it's like a knockout punch.
00:43:52Correct.
00:43:52And it was stupid.
00:43:54They probably would have scored if they ran because it would have been so surprising.
00:43:57By the way, total side note gambling.
00:43:59The end of that game was one of the worst things I've ever sat through in my entire life.
00:44:03I had the over in that game.
00:44:06Tennessee, I think conservatively had 47 plays from the one yard line.
00:44:11There was multiple pass interferences in the end zone.
00:44:15And then the play before the running back scores.
00:44:19I've watched the play a hundred times.
00:44:21He dives in the ball.
00:44:23The knee never touches.
00:44:24They don't review it.
00:44:26Total side note.
00:44:27That's a gambling rant.
00:44:28But that Alabama, Tennessee, this 3720, a heck of a lot closer than it actually was.
00:44:34So Alabama, I think I say it again.
00:44:37There's no supernovas in the SEC.
00:44:40You have a bunch of teams who can beat each other on any given Saturday.
00:44:44I think Vanderbilt, I keep saying that.
00:44:46I think Vanderbilt is going to make a run at this conference.
00:44:49I really believe that.
00:44:51So I'll respond to it rationally because part of what you're saying is correct.
00:44:54There just is no monster in the SEC right now.
00:44:57The SEC, there's a bunch of teams that are about the same level.
00:45:00Alabama, to me right now, gets the nod over a Texas A&M who's undefeated because A&M just
00:45:04hasn't impressed me against the worst teams in the conference.
00:45:07They beat Auburn, they beat Florida, they beat us.
00:45:10But that Notre Dame win is a big win.
00:45:12It's a big one.
00:45:13It's a big win and props them up to number four.
00:45:14But to me, I give Alabama the nod because Alabama's going on the road and winning at Georgia.
00:45:18They're going on the road and winning at Missouri.
00:45:20These are very, very tough games.
00:45:22I don't know who's going to win the SEC championship.
00:45:26I think at the end of this SEC season, we might have a bunch of 10-2 teams and then we've
00:45:30got to sort it out and send some to the playoffs.
00:45:32I really don't know.
00:45:33Georgia gets themselves in trouble every single week.
00:45:35Their defense is all of a sudden not good.
00:45:37They don't have the monitors they used to have.
00:45:39I don't understand a lot of the SEC.
00:45:41Let me ask you this, Walker.
00:45:42Can I ask you a question?
00:45:43Go.
00:45:43Game on the line.
00:45:45You're down four.
00:45:47You want Pavia or you want Simpson as your quarterback?
00:45:50Boy, listen, I think it's two Cadillacs you just asked me about.
00:45:54I think I want Simpson, though.
00:45:56If you remember at Missouri, the fourth and eight, I want the guy who can throw it.
00:45:59Pavia is a gamer and a winner, but I want Ty Simpson.
00:46:02But you're asking me, do I want the best quarterback in the SEC or like the second or third best
00:46:07quarterback?
00:46:07So they're both very good.
00:46:09That's why it was meant to be a difficult question.
00:46:11I love Pavia.
00:46:12He choked against Bama.
00:46:14But this kid to me, there's something about him.
00:46:17I think 99 out of 100 times he's going to deliver for you with his legs.
00:46:21He's just a playmaker to me.
00:46:23And it's interesting because when you talk coaching vacancies, I think the Vanderbilt coach
00:46:28is obviously a hot name, but he's one of those coaches, I can't tell because you take
00:46:32Pavia off that team.
00:46:33Yeah.
00:46:34What do you got?
00:46:35I don't know.
00:46:36But he also went and got Pavia.
00:46:37Like Pavia wasn't exactly the hottest name in the transfer portal when he went and got
00:46:41him.
00:46:41He plugged him into the system and it has been a perfect fit.
00:46:44And look how he's built Vanderbilt.
00:46:47The front seven's damn good.
00:46:49They're just better everywhere, right?
00:46:50So he's done a great job.
00:46:51But yes, he got Pavia.
00:46:53It still begs the question, can you find another Pavia?
00:46:55I mean, again, I'll bet on Clark Lee at this point, but it's not an easy question to answer.
00:47:04It's impossible.
00:47:05A lot of coaching vacancies going to be out there, including your school.
00:47:08I mean, I got to assume Brian Kelly.
00:47:10I mean, how long does he have there?
00:47:13So spiritually, David Hellman tweeted this and I agree with him.
00:47:18Spiritually, the Brian Kelly era is completely dead at LSU.
00:47:22There is no belief left.
00:47:23I don't know what that means.
00:47:24Money is pulling out.
00:47:25What I mean is, I don't know if they'll be able to come up.
00:47:27I don't know if they're going to be able to come up with the $50 million to get him out
00:47:31of there.
00:47:31Buy out, smile out.
00:47:32They'll get the money.
00:47:33They'll get the money.
00:47:34Everybody gets the money.
00:47:35Look, we can have this discussion.
00:47:37I don't know if they will.
00:47:38But what is true is that nobody has any belief anymore.
00:47:42Not the investors.
00:47:43Not the fans.
00:47:44Nobody.
00:47:45The rats are leaving the ship.
00:47:47It's a disastrous performance by LSU as they get beat down by a Vanderbilt that invests
00:47:52about half of what the Tigers did.
00:47:53By the way, Nussmeyer had his best game, I thought.
00:47:56He kept that in some pretty good throws.
00:47:58He did.
00:47:59And look, there's a lot to break down.
00:48:00And we got plenty more show to break it down.
00:48:03A lot more NFL.
00:48:03A lot more college football.
00:48:04Still going to get playoff baseball.
00:48:06Hour 2 next right here on FS1.
00:48:09What's happening, guys?
00:48:12Welcome back.
00:48:13Wake Up Barstool, Hour 2.
00:48:15And what better way to start this hour than by being joined by one of the more innovative,
00:48:22forward-thinking, and quick-thinking commissioners in all of sports.
00:48:27That is Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark.
00:48:29Commissioner Yormark, what's going on, man?
00:48:30Thank you so much for waking up with us this morning.
00:48:32Hey, listen.
00:48:33First of all, I'm pleased to be here.
00:48:35I need to ask you a question.
00:48:36Am I the first commissioner from Collegiate Athletics on this show?
00:48:41You absolutely are.
00:48:42And that's part and parcel with the question I wanted to ask you, man.
00:48:46Because the Big 12 a few years ago was dead.
00:48:50Lying on the ground, stabbed in the back, reaching the handout.
00:48:54Nobody wants to help.
00:48:55And then you come in.
00:48:56You strike the TV deal ahead of the Pac-12.
00:48:59You get the four-quarter schools.
00:49:01Really, again, innovative, decisive, take-the-initiative type of stuff.
00:49:05And now you're thriving.
00:49:07Basketball, football.
00:49:09In your tenure, congrats on the extension, but in your tenure, what do you think you're most proud of thus far?
00:49:16I would say when I look back on it, it's our first 90 days.
00:49:20You know, I've had a lot of mentors throughout my career, and they've all said, define yourself early.
00:49:28Right?
00:49:28Make a difference early.
00:49:29And I think we were able to do that.
00:49:31You know, within 90 days, we did the TV deal with ESPN and Fox.
00:49:34The rationale there, obviously, two biggest platforms.
00:49:38And we wanted them to continue to elevate and amplify this conference.
00:49:42On the heels of that, because we became stable, if you will, we were able to entertain realignment.
00:49:49And then shortly thereafter, you know, we were able to bring the four corners in.
00:49:53So really, the first 90 days defined us, you know, as a conference that was going to be innovative.
00:50:00We're going to break some boundaries.
00:50:01We're going to move forward.
00:50:02We're going to be aggressive.
00:50:04We were going to think about things very differently.
00:50:06And thankfully, I have a great board and a great group of ADs that I work with, and they were ready to run.
00:50:13Because as you know, in this industry, things don't get done that quickly.
00:50:18They were ready to run.
00:50:19And that, when I look back on, was critical.
00:50:22Critical for us to be able to move forward.
00:50:24It's tough for me here because we have the Big 12 commissioner on here.
00:50:28And I think the commissioner on my league, the Big 10, hates my gut.
00:50:31So it's a very interesting dynamic that I deal with.
00:50:34I do have a question for you, Brett.
00:50:36A guy on this panel who considers himself a college football expert.
00:50:42The number one media personality in college football.
00:50:45If we can put back his top 10, and I asked before he came on, I saw a team noticeably absent who was undefeated based out of Provo, Utah, where I was.
00:50:56This is disrespect for your conference right here with an undefeated BYU.
00:51:01Whoa!
00:51:01Do you have anything to say to Brandon Walker on this?
00:51:04This is top 10, which is absolutely disrespecting the Big 12.
00:51:08So, Dave, listen, our goal this year, coming into this season, was to have a great football season, to get two into the CFP.
00:51:18That was our goal, obviously.
00:51:20And I think we're on our way in order to do that.
00:51:24I was at the BYU game on Saturday.
00:51:26That's a great team.
00:51:29I think they're underappreciated.
00:51:30They're well-coached, great fan base.
00:51:34And they've got a hunger to how they play right now.
00:51:38And they want more.
00:51:39And, you know, this week it's a big game against Iowa State.
00:51:42Last week, year, if you recall, coming out of the Holy War game, they lost their next one.
00:51:49They've got to guard against that.
00:51:51But it's okay if they didn't make the top 10 this week.
00:51:53We know how good they are.
00:51:56Top to bottom, we're the deepest conference in America.
00:51:59I said that during media days.
00:52:00I feel that right now.
00:52:02And my expectation is we'll get two into the CFP.
00:52:05And I like BYU.
00:52:07I think they're playing great right now.
00:52:08And they're an undefeated team in our conference.
00:52:10The only one.
00:52:11So when do you have to start rooting for teams?
00:52:15Because knowing that, and maybe you don't have a rooting.
00:52:17I see, Walker, you can ask the next question.
00:52:19But Texas Tech loses for the first time at Arizona State.
00:52:23As a commissioner, knowing that's your goal, I want two teams in the playoffs.
00:52:28Is that a bad loss for Texas Tech?
00:52:30Or is it like when you start being like, oh, I need this team to win.
00:52:32I need that team to win.
00:52:33If you're gunning for those two.
00:52:35Because Texas Tech, you want to undefeat Texas Tech.
00:52:37They move.
00:52:38One loss.
00:52:38Does a two-loss Texas Tech team get in as a commish?
00:52:41How do you look at that?
00:52:43Well, listen.
00:52:43I want all of our teams to be successful.
00:52:46It was a great win by ASU, obviously, at home.
00:52:49Texas Tech is having a great season.
00:52:52They're off to their best start after seven games, I think, since 2013.
00:52:56One loss doesn't define a team.
00:52:58And I'm excited about who ultimately will land in Arlington.
00:53:03And if things play out the way I expect, again, Mike, you know, we expect to get two into the CFP this year.
00:53:09We think we're going to earn it.
00:53:10All right, Walker, what do you got?
00:53:12Yeah, Mr. Commissioner, first of all, our colleague there did a poor job of introducing me.
00:53:16I'm the number one college football media personality in the entire world.
00:53:20And I think I should have gotten credit there.
00:53:22When you look at my top ten, I look at Texas Tech.
00:53:24And I see a team that lost the other day because their backup quarterback had to play.
00:53:28I see a team who is still very good.
00:53:30I see a team who is still a class of the Big 12, and I rewarded them.
00:53:33And I said, hey, I am not just going to look at your win-loss record.
00:53:36I'm going to see that you're one of the best teams in the country.
00:53:39And I kept them there.
00:53:40And it was at the expense of BYU.
00:53:42BYU is going to work their way in there eventually.
00:53:44But forward-thinking me gave credit to the Big 12, credit to Texas Tech for still being one of the ten best teams in the country.
00:53:50I'll take your thanks right now.
00:53:52And I appreciate that.
00:53:53Thank you very much.
00:53:54Well, he's going to use that against you, though, come selection time because you could have an undefeated BYU and go, well, I don't think they're that good.
00:54:02So I'm not going to put them in.
00:54:04He just tried to sandbag you right there, which is fine.
00:54:07It's not sandbagging at all.
00:54:09It's simply giving credit to Texas Tech.
00:54:10You have to have BYU ahead of Texas Tech right now.
00:54:13You have to.
00:54:14They're undefeated.
00:54:14Texas Tech lost.
00:54:15I don't have to do anything.
00:54:16I can do whatever I want in my top ten.
00:54:18You can do whatever you want in your top ten.
00:54:20So, guys, let me just tell you this.
00:54:22And I appreciate everything you guys do.
00:54:24We love this Barstool partnership.
00:54:26I want to just say that to your fans.
00:54:28It's been fantastic for us.
00:54:30And you're reaching audiences that we typically don't reach.
00:54:33We love that 18 to 34 demographic, which you guys do so much with.
00:54:39And we love getting in front of that younger fan.
00:54:42And I want to just thank you on behalf of the conference on everything you're doing.
00:54:46Dave, you've been terrific on campus.
00:54:48You've given each of our campuses that you've been on truly an infomercial.
00:54:52And you're showing, you know, the best of these schools and what they have to offer.
00:54:56So, I want to thank you for that.
00:54:58I got a couple of questions for you.
00:55:00You know, one, I was hoping you were going to show up at our basketball media days.
00:55:04You know, we have that in Kansas City tomorrow and Wednesday.
00:55:06And, you know, Fox is now in the family for basketball.
00:55:10So, we are hoping that we'd have some Barstool flavor there for all the right reasons.
00:55:15We got a lot of media partners there.
00:55:16But, obviously, we love you.
00:55:17So, if not this year, certainly in the future, we'd love to have you.
00:55:21And as often as we can engage, I mean, we love it.
00:55:25I have a real question for you, Brett.
00:55:27Yeah.
00:55:27As the commissioner in the league, how do you balance?
00:55:30Because I think what's making us work with the Big 12 is there seems to be an understanding that maybe we're a humorous brand that interacts with a younger generation a little differently than traditional media.
00:55:44And you're embracing it and what they say, maybe not take everything literal, where there's another conference where we're having a little more difficulty with that, where if we crack a joke, it gets escalated to DEFCON 5.
00:55:57So, how have you managed that, letting us be us and making it work with the schools?
00:56:03Well, it's a great question.
00:56:04You know, when I got here three years ago, I was very intentional about getting younger, connecting with culture, and breaking boundaries.
00:56:14I mean, that's who we are as a conference.
00:56:17And we're embracing it and leaning in.
00:56:20So, when there's opportunities to partner with the likes of a barstool, we're going to lean in, and you've seen it.
00:56:25Our campuses love you.
00:56:26Our fans adore what you do.
00:56:30And we're going to continue to lean in as much as you want us to, because we're seeing the benefits.
00:56:36You know, again, we're reaching new fans.
00:56:38We're engaging with that younger demographic.
00:56:40It's very much on brand for us.
00:56:42And we're excited, you know, to be working with you guys.
00:56:45And I want to thank you again.
00:56:47And listen, we've had some of our coaches on.
00:56:49I know you had Joey McGuire on last week, and they've loved it.
00:56:53They love the platform, as do I.
00:56:55So, as often as you'll have me, I'll join you.
00:56:58We appreciate it.
00:56:59It's been a great relationship.
00:57:00And we did look at the Big 12 Basketball Media Day and how we do things.
00:57:05We didn't want to just go there and ask questions and be not true to ourselves.
00:57:09We tried to put something together.
00:57:11The technology didn't really work for what we were trying to do.
00:57:14But we will get there.
00:57:16And we love being a part of it.
00:57:17And I love going to these campuses.
00:57:19We're having a ball.
00:57:20Listen, we love having you.
00:57:21But, you know, when you think about basketball, and I do want to come back to football,
00:57:24we're excited.
00:57:25You know, we have six schools in the top 25, obviously coming off a great year last year.
00:57:30Houston, a couple of plays away from winning the national championship.
00:57:34Fox, obviously, embracing us for basketball this year.
00:57:37So excited to formally kick that off in Kansas City over the next two days.
00:57:42And then when you think about football, you know, we lead all of college football in what
00:57:49I call the drama meter.
00:57:50Yeah.
00:57:51I don't know if you caught all of our games last weekend, but my God, the back and forth
00:57:55in the fourth quarter, the lead changes, the drama.
00:57:58It's incredible.
00:57:59Last year, November was the highest rated month for this conference.
00:58:03When you think about ratings and viewership, because it was must-see TV, I expect the same
00:58:09this year.
00:58:09I mean, it's coming down to the wire.
00:58:11I don't know who's going to end up in Arlington.
00:58:14We've got five schools that are one loss or none.
00:58:19And who knows what it's going to look like.
00:58:22But I do know one thing.
00:58:24There's going to be a lot of drama that unfolds over the course of the second half of the season.
00:58:28And we're excited that you'll be a part of it.
00:58:30Yeah.
00:58:30Look, Commissioner, it's the best.
00:58:33It's the closest top to bottom conference.
00:58:35There's great quarterback play everywhere.
00:58:36And it's an incredible product.
00:58:37We've talked a lot this morning about your last three years, your tenure up to this point.
00:58:42You're innovative, all those things.
00:58:44But looking forward, the future of college football is as hazy as anything else, including
00:58:49what the playoffs going to look like.
00:58:50And you're someone who, despite what many would think, you've argued against this auto-bid
00:58:57format, this four for the SEC, four for the Big Ten, then two and two for the ACC and Big
00:59:0212.
00:59:02And I guess my question to you is, you sit here and say, we want to get two teams in,
00:59:06right?
00:59:06Well, a lot of people kind of have you in their mind limited as one.
00:59:09Why do you prefer that five and 11 model with 11 at-large bids when a lot of people are telling
00:59:16you that's not going to work out for you?
00:59:19Well, listen, I think in the short term, who knows how it's going to work out.
00:59:23Long term, oh, I think we're setting ourselves up for a lot of success.
00:59:28If you're the commissioner of the Big 12, schools are investing at a high level.
00:59:33And this rev share, in theory, creates a level playing field across collegiate athletics.
00:59:41Why would you cap progress?
00:59:43Why would you cap progress and say you're locked in for the next six years with two AQs?
00:59:48So from day one, it was all about let's earn it on the field.
00:59:52Whatever plays out, plays out.
00:59:53But let's earn it on the field.
00:59:55And I think we've picked up a lot of momentum.
00:59:57And I think the public sentiment agrees with me.
01:00:00Let's let nothing should be predetermined.
01:00:03Let's let's let it play out on the field.
01:00:06Look at this year alone.
01:00:07There are numerous top 25 teams, top 15 teams that don't don't exist in the top 25 anymore.
01:00:15I think because of roster management in the portal, no one really knows what they have.
01:00:19And now because of rev share, it's a bit of an equalizer across the ecosystem.
01:00:25So I've been just in favor of earning it on the field.
01:00:28There's more parity now than ever before.
01:00:30You guys are seeing it.
01:00:31You speak about it.
01:00:32And I don't want to cap our progress moving forward.
01:00:35I'm bullish on the Big 12.
01:00:36I'm bullish on the investments our schools are making.
01:00:39And it's playing out each and every week.
01:00:41Commissioner Brett Bjormer, our kid, thank you enough for waking up with us today, man.
01:00:45Very well said.
01:00:47And best of luck to the conference the rest of the season.
01:00:50Thank you, guys.
01:00:50I love you guys.
01:00:51Thank you for all you do for us, OK?
01:00:54Thank you, sir.
01:00:55Brett Bjormer, my God, I like the cut of his jib, man.
01:00:59Yeah, it's good.
01:00:59We got to talk coach openings in college football right now.
01:01:04Brandon, you have ranked these openings, you have coach degrees, but we're talking right
01:01:08now, Florida, Penn State, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech, UCLA, Stanford, Auburn's
01:01:15in play.
01:01:16LSU could potentially be in play.
01:01:18Coach, what do you think is the best job in college football out of all of these?
01:01:24Man, that's a tough question.
01:01:27I think they're all great jobs.
01:01:28I mean, I grew up the son of a college football coach.
01:01:31You don't get many better jobs than some of those.
01:01:34Those are historic names right there on the list.
01:01:36I know the landscape of college football has changed, but those are great, great jobs.
01:01:42And I can't believe they're all available before November.
01:01:45That's ridiculous if you ask me.
01:01:47Well, I'll stop slow-footing around here.
01:01:52Coach, any of those jobs?
01:01:53You've been looking at Zillow for any of these jobs, like Arkansas or something like that?
01:01:56I got a job, man.
01:01:57I got to get back to work.
01:01:59I ain't got time to waste listening to these stupid questions by guys like you, man.
01:02:04Hey, that was T-Bone, not me.
01:02:05No, no, no.
01:02:06He said T-Bone during the break, guys.
01:02:09He said T-Bone, just to be clear.
01:02:10Coach, thank you so much, man.
01:02:13Thank you, guys.
01:02:13Have a good one.
01:02:14You the man.
01:02:15By the way, guys, if anybody hasn't seen Coach Gruden's YouTube channel yet, it is awesome.
01:02:20If you want to get educated on football, what he says is going to work, that's what he's going to do.
01:02:24Hold on.
01:02:24Dave had his quizzical face on.
01:02:27What's your quizzical face for, Dave?
01:02:28Well, I mean, that UCLA job, are we sure that's open?
01:02:31Because I saw the interim offensive coordinator once again giving a speech in the locker room.
01:02:38We did it on defense.
01:02:39We did it on offense.
01:02:41Where was Tim Skipper?
01:02:42Did they have him in the basement?
01:02:44I don't think he exists, Dave.
01:02:45I, again, he's not a real guy.
01:02:49Tim Skipper's not a real guy.
01:02:50Dave, Brandon, did neither of you want to comment on the video tweeted out of Tim Skipper talking to the locker room that was tweeted out?
01:02:57Neither of you want to talk about that?
01:02:58Neither of you want to acknowledge that these videos of Jerry Neuheisel have been going out since 2022 on the Twitters.
01:03:06You haven't said a word years ago.
01:03:08I wish that you had a guy like Jerry Neuheisel on your program that could just be the face of it.
01:03:18Live, breathe, die by it.
01:03:21Bleed that program's blood.
01:03:23I wish for you all that you had someone like Neuheisel.
01:03:26This is like old Roman Empire.
01:03:29E2 Brutus.
01:03:31Like, when there's this type of stuff going on where the assistant interim offensive coordinator is trying to take the shine of the head coach, there's bad blood behind the scenes.
01:03:42I guarantee it.
01:03:42There's so much good blood, only good blood.
01:03:46We're going to beat Indiana this week.
01:03:48That's going to be so much fun.
01:03:50And there's no Brutus thing going on.
01:03:53Neuheisel's not going to be coaching at UCLA next year because he's going to go and get a great job, a great opportunity.
01:03:58He's going to go and network.
01:04:00He's going to play the game.
01:04:01He's going to come back here one day as the head coach.
01:04:05And you won't be able to make jokes then.
01:04:07Tell him what.
01:04:07When we're helping your conference that's run by all these moronic dictators.
01:04:13Tell him, like, get out of his ass.
01:04:16All right, Brandon, back to your coach openings.
01:04:18This is a list that has caused much disconcernation on Twitter.
01:04:22You have Florida ranked number one, Penn State two, Arkansas three.
01:04:27Dave, accurate top three jobs there.
01:04:29Is the belief that Florida you can recruit in Florida, is that why Florida is the one?
01:04:37Because I don't see it in this day and age.
01:04:39I think Penn State is number one for me.
01:04:43I like Arkansas, I think is a cool spot.
01:04:48Listen, Virginia Tech, I think you can win at Virginia Tech.
01:04:52They got money now.
01:04:54They raised, like, the $50 million or whatever.
01:04:56You come in and enter Sandman.
01:04:57And I don't believe they have any academic requirements there.
01:05:01There's not much.
01:05:02Football is king.
01:05:04But I would put Penn State number one clearly.
01:05:07Yeah, I think number one and number two are very close.
01:05:09And they're extended.
01:05:10They're separated away from everybody else.
01:05:13I just choose Florida because you don't have to leave your backyard to recruit.
01:05:16Yeah.
01:05:17You can put a three-hour circle around Gainesville and put together a national championship roster.
01:05:21Whereas at Penn State, you do have to throw the national blanket out there.
01:05:23You do have to go compete with Ohio State.
01:05:25You have to go to people's backyards to recruit.
01:05:26They're both elite, elite, elite jobs.
01:05:28I think Brandon's being dumb here, and I'll tell you why.
01:05:31All right.
01:05:32This may be held true a decade ago, but I think now everyone's recruiting everywhere.
01:05:39And you look in Florida.
01:05:41I mean, it's not that, yeah, Miami's up there, but they've been down.
01:05:43There's Florida kids crisscrossing the globe.
01:05:47Texas kids crisscrossing the globe.
01:05:49I don't feel like recruiting is nearly as regional as it was at one point.
01:05:53So just because you're in Florida, I don't know that that gives you some huge advantage to get that Florida talent.
01:06:00So Dave's being stupid, and I'll tell you why.
01:06:01He is talking about the top-line recruits at the five-star level.
01:06:05And everybody's going across the country.
01:06:06A kid from California will go to Alabama.
01:06:08A kid from Michigan will go to LSU.
01:06:10A kid from everywhere will go everywhere else.
01:06:12But when you're building the backbone of your team, when you're building the roster, when you're building positions 30 through 85 or 20 through 85,
01:06:19you are leaning heavily on your geographic footprint.
01:06:22And Florida has a better one than Penn State does.
01:06:24Now, they're both elite jobs.
01:06:26They're both fantastic jobs.
01:06:28Penn State just comes with a lot of baggage.
01:06:29I don't think Florida – we've seen multiple coaches win national titles in the last 30 years at Florida.
01:06:34We haven't seen that at Penn State.
01:06:35Yeah, I think I agree with your points there, Brandon.
01:06:39The only problem that I really had with the list, maybe I wanted to point something out.
01:06:43Oklahoma State at four.
01:06:45Yeah.
01:06:45Post-T Boone pickings.
01:06:47Yeah, game changing.
01:06:49That seems like too high.
01:06:51And then Stanford, I think, is too low here.
01:06:55No.
01:06:55Stanford has academic requirements.
01:06:58They just got a $50 million football-only investment.
01:07:02Andrew Luck, GM, it's the only power structure where the GM is above the head coach.
01:07:07Andrew Luck can spur investment.
01:07:09He can get the right guy in there, I think.
01:07:11Is he going to take their test form?
01:07:13Maybe they can lower the requirements like other schools.
01:07:15I've never done that.
01:07:16Requirements at Stanford.
01:07:18What do you mean Notre Dame did?
01:07:20Everybody would have said that Notre Dame would never do it.
01:07:23What do they say about precedent?
01:07:24What is proven?
01:07:25No man considers a course based for himself that has proven profitable to others.
01:07:30Stanford's not doing it.
01:07:31Stanford's not Notre Dame.
01:07:33And I saw Auburn on there.
01:07:35And how much time?
01:07:36I got to do this Auburn.
01:07:37Go for it.
01:07:38All right.
01:07:39So I'm watching football.
01:07:41I'm in bed.
01:07:42I literally was in bed.
01:07:43Lights off.
01:07:45And I had Auburn against Missouri.
01:07:47And the Auburn field goal kicker is missing kicks left and right.
01:07:52Chip shots.
01:07:52If we have the clip I made, let's play it.
01:07:56I don't think we have the audio, but.
01:07:59Yeah.
01:07:59We don't have the audio.
01:08:00So this is one of, I don't know, 13 kicks that this guy missed.
01:08:04Now he points to the sky real soon.
01:08:06And it set me off.
01:08:07I literally pulled the covers off right there.
01:08:11And I'm like, I cannot have field goal kickers missing 38-yard field goals, headbutting everybody,
01:08:21pointing to the sky like he made it.
01:08:23Like, if you didn't see the kick, this is in, right?
01:08:26Like, you're watching.
01:08:26This is a made field goal.
01:08:28So, yeah, I bet the game.
01:08:30I took my covers off the bed, walked to the computer with my phone, put it up, made a video,
01:08:36talking over like, and I literally said, you can't point to the sky.
01:08:40Well, Auburn Nation, the Tigers, who don't have much going for them right now.
01:08:46I had players on the team, fans, all the way down.
01:08:51You scumbag.
01:08:53You piece of crap.
01:08:55How dare you talk about this field goal kicker?
01:08:58Alex McPherson is his name.
01:08:59I had no idea what his name is.
01:09:01The brother of the Bengals field goal kicker, apparently.
01:09:05So they're like, this kid, he's gone through so many medical issues, which he has.
01:09:09As I researched, I guess he needed a colon.
01:09:11He was very sick, had to leave football, come back.
01:09:14All accounts, a great story of human perseverance.
01:09:19So that's great.
01:09:20And I'm happy for him.
01:09:22You always root for that.
01:09:24I also, so in that regard, I apologize.
01:09:27I didn't know he went through that.
01:09:29I also have to tell all these Auburn people to shut up.
01:09:32You're watching sports.
01:09:34You don't know the backstory of every single player.
01:09:38I didn't even know his name.
01:09:39I was just saying, I don't like pointing the sky when you miss a field goal.
01:09:43Okay.
01:09:43If you think I knew more than that, you don't know what you're talking about.
01:09:47And it is a great story.
01:09:50You're taking it a little personal on a missed field goal.
01:09:53Now these college kids, they're getting paid.
01:09:55It's basically the pros.
01:09:56I'm watching a game.
01:09:57I'm allowed to comment.
01:09:59That's what I do.
01:10:00I had no idea of the backstory.
01:10:02And how long can you not criticize this kid the rest of his life?
01:10:06If he's 72 years old and he screws up, do you go back?
01:10:10Well, he overcame a brutal health scare back when he was 18.
01:10:15At some point, you don't connect the two.
01:10:18You're allowed to criticize.
01:10:19It doesn't take away from the great story.
01:10:21But you Auburn people should be more concerned about being three and four than me, who clearly
01:10:27had no clue on the backstory, doesn't know a thing about it, getting all worked up, worry
01:10:33about losing the game again in overtime, worry about whether your coach is going to have
01:10:37the job.
01:10:38You're taking it a little bit personal, I would say, in Auburn.
01:10:42And I liked Auburn.
01:10:43I said it was a great campus and a great school.
01:10:46I didn't know the first thing about it.
01:10:48So if you think you're going to get me and try to shame me for criticizing a point up
01:10:55on a missed field goal, you're out of your mind.
01:10:59Ever so brief recap.
01:11:00He's sorry, but shut up, Auburn.
01:11:02Yeah, I mean, that's a Hall of Fame apology, right?
01:11:05Don't you think it's going a little bit crazy to tell me like I'm a piece of trash?
01:11:10I live it every Saturday, Dave.
01:11:12All right, guys.
01:11:13I live it every Saturday.
01:11:14Right here on FS1, it's time to head back to the NFL.
01:11:18We got more games to break down.
01:11:21You still shouldn't put your fingers up when you miss a 38-yarder.
01:11:24I don't care what your background is.
01:11:26I'm happy for them.
01:11:27Obviously, it's a great story.
01:11:29Sorry.
01:11:29It's a field goal.
01:11:30Auburn, sorry.
01:11:34What's happening, guys?
01:11:35Welcome back.
01:11:35Wake up, Barstool.
01:11:36Back to Sunday.
01:11:37NFL.
01:11:37Some games we have not touched on yet.
01:11:40And let's start here with the Eagles taking care of the Minnesota Vikings.
01:11:44You heard a little bit during Coach Gruden's shred line there.
01:11:47The story here is simply the Eagles throwing the ball, right?
01:11:50So they want all this credit.
01:11:52I had Connor Griffin, the Eagles fan, tweeting at me yesterday saying,
01:11:55what do you think about A.J. Brown now?
01:11:57And the Eagles did look good throwing the ball yesterday,
01:11:59but what in the hell takes six or seven games to figure out you got a good receiver over here
01:12:04and a good receiver over there?
01:12:05Why are you just banging your head and banging your head and banging your head
01:12:08and losing games with a quarterback who's not throwing the ball down the field?
01:12:11All of a sudden, you throw it down the field, and you're like, wow, look at us.
01:12:14Look how great we are.
01:12:15I don't understand it.
01:12:16You got A.J. Brown.
01:12:17You got Devontae Smith.
01:12:17Why don't they do this every week, T-Bob?
01:12:19Yeah, no, I mean, it begs the question because we've seen it now, I think, twice this season,
01:12:24and then other times it's just completely absent.
01:12:27But we'll see if they continue going forward.
01:12:28He's a very streaky quarterback.
01:12:29He is a very – he's been a streaky quarterback all the way through college
01:12:34where he actually got benched at one point.
01:12:36But when he's hot, he's hot.
01:12:37When he's off, he's off.
01:12:38The Eagles are going to be around at the end.
01:12:40To me, weirdly, the bigger story here, and I don't know how I saw the highlights,
01:12:44is the Vikings, the way they tried to defend the tush push.
01:12:47Did you guys see that?
01:12:48Yeah, the guy, like, laying down on his side just –
01:12:51Yeah, laying parallel because the Eagles are going to be there late.
01:12:54They're going to make another run at the Super Bowl,
01:12:56and the tush push will be a topic of conversation.
01:12:59Yeah, I'll be interested to see if it ends up working long-term
01:13:03or what the response to it is.
01:13:05I like the idea of teams just throwing out a different wrinkle every single week,
01:13:08of teams just coming and preparing,
01:13:10and they spend six days working on this hush push,
01:13:12and they come up, well, what if we have a guy lay down here?
01:13:14What if we have a guy helicopter in?
01:13:16Like, I would like to see what kind of innovations we get with this.
01:13:19It's like throw a guy.
01:13:20Throw a guy, yeah.
01:13:21Just throw a guy through the middle.
01:13:21It goes up under in motion.
01:13:22Maybe sneak 13 guys in there.
01:13:24I don't know.
01:13:24Just figure something out.
01:13:26Nothing works.
01:13:27Brandon, I'm sure this made you happy.
01:13:29Dak, Cowboys, looking good, dude.
01:13:32Listen, man.
01:13:3244-22.
01:13:33And here's the deal.
01:13:34CeeDee Lamb's been out, and what you saw in the interim was Dak
01:13:38gained all this chemistry with Pickens.
01:13:40Now Lamb is back.
01:13:41They've already got a dude.
01:13:43The Cowboys defense sucks and will limit them,
01:13:45but this offense is going to give anybody in the NFL trouble
01:13:48as long as those two receivers are healthy.
01:13:49Well, Pickens, to me, is one of the most naturally talented receivers
01:13:52we've ever seen.
01:13:52I don't know why he didn't dominate all the time at Pittsburgh.
01:13:54I don't know why he didn't dominate all the time at Georgia.
01:13:56Like, he's 6'5", 6'6".
01:13:58I know.
01:13:59I know.
01:13:59But still.
01:14:00All because he's cuckoo.
01:14:01He is cuckoo.
01:14:02He's got it in there, and Dallas is getting it out.
01:14:04And listen, I don't want to be a homer,
01:14:06but Dak Prescott is playing at an MVP level.
01:14:08He is playing at an MVP level.
01:14:10He was second in the MVP his last healthy season.
01:14:12Now he's doing it again.
01:14:13I don't know if it's going to matter because the defense is,
01:14:15when they get in big games, the defense is going to give up 40 points
01:14:18and all that.
01:14:18But Dak is fantastic and good for him.
01:14:21Look at the boys backing into the end zone there.
01:14:25Dave, as the resident quarterback expert.
01:14:28Why did you say that?
01:14:30Just because he says it all the time.
01:14:31He claims to know more quarterback than anybody else will ever forget.
01:14:35Is Brandon accurate on his Dak takes here?
01:14:38Yeah, I think he is.
01:14:39He's having a great season.
01:14:41You know, numbers always a little bit inflated when you're in shootouts,
01:14:44which he is kind of all the time.
01:14:46But he's playing great football.
01:14:47It would have been interesting to see what would have happened in this game
01:14:50if Jay didn't get hurt.
01:14:51But he's playing great football.
01:14:53There's no doubt about it.
01:14:54Now, to me, Washington, I don't know how long Daniel said.
01:14:58They said he's having an MRI.
01:14:59Yeah, MRI on the hammy today.
01:15:01Yeah, that's the biggest takeaway because I think a lot of people thought
01:15:04they were a potential Super Bowl contender.
01:15:07They're sitting at three and four and your quarterbacks maybe go on the shelf.
01:15:11That's big news.
01:15:12And I'll tell you, he has, I said this coming out of LSU,
01:15:16he was my number one quarterback I wanted out of the draft.
01:15:18So I was on top of that.
01:15:20But he is a frail-looking guy, and he runs the ball a lot,
01:15:24and you worry about injuries with them.
01:15:25He's managed to stay healthy.
01:15:27But his frame, and I even said it yesterday about my guy, Drake May,
01:15:31he was running all over the field, taking some serious hits.
01:15:35And, you know, it makes you nervous.
01:15:37You've got to stay healthy in this league.
01:15:39Bears, take care of the New Orleans Saints.
01:15:4128, 26 was it 28?
01:15:43Yeah, 26-14.
01:15:44I was at the game with the Chicago Barstool guys.
01:15:46Very good time.
01:15:47Saints are absolute garbage.
01:15:49But how about the Bears now do four wins in a row?
01:15:52They got a couple easy games on the schedule.
01:15:55They feel like one of those teams that may not be that good,
01:15:58but is going to win enough to convince themselves they're good.
01:16:01And then they end up being like an okay playoff team down the stretch.
01:16:04Yeah, both them and the Patriots from week one, major turnarounds.
01:16:10Like, the Bears were basically giving up again.
01:16:13Same old Bears.
01:16:14Caleb didn't look good.
01:16:15What, they lose the Lions by like 60, right?
01:16:17Yeah, it was like 56 to whatever.
01:16:19Yeah, and it really looked like nothing was changing,
01:16:22and here they are sitting at 4-2.
01:16:24Again, the Saints can't beat anybody.
01:16:26They stink.
01:16:26They stink.
01:16:27But great start to the season for the Bears.
01:16:29If you told them after that Lions game, they'd be 4-2.
01:16:33And it just proves what everybody knows in this league,
01:16:35and it's kind of like you almost mock it, the instant reactions, overreactions.
01:16:41This league, man, they're all paid players, and they're so close,
01:16:45and they're so knotted up.
01:16:47A lot of it coaching, playing, but they're looking good.
01:16:51Good for the Bears.
01:16:52I'm happy for people.
01:16:53Yeah, and of course, that was the Dennis Allen revenge game.
01:16:55That defense dominated yesterday.
01:16:57Four takeaways.
01:16:58I think that's three games in a row, at least three, for the Bears.
01:17:01Brandon, you're Dolphins.
01:17:02No, don't do that.
01:17:03Yeah, you're Frank the Tank's Dolphins.
01:17:06Absolutely embarrassed.
01:17:07And look at this, from Ian Rippepa.
01:17:09On the Miami Dolphins.
01:17:10From who?
01:17:11Ian Rippepa.
01:17:13No changes are expected at this time.
01:17:16I am told Mike McDaniels somehow just cruising right along
01:17:19as the Browns dominate.
01:17:21I want to use the word cruising.
01:17:23Well, I mean, like...
01:17:25That may be a misuse of a word.
01:17:27Okay, okay, okay, fair.
01:17:29I mean that, at this point, he feels like a man resigned to his fate.
01:17:34He's playing the violin on those three guys on the Titanic as it's sinking.
01:17:38Yes.
01:17:39He's done.
01:17:40Sinking right along.
01:17:40It's just a matter of when.
01:17:41Listen, I understand being a bad football team.
01:17:45I don't understand.
01:17:4631-6 to the Browns.
01:17:47It's wild.
01:17:48The Browns, T-Bob.
01:17:49Wild.
01:17:49The Browns.
01:17:49You've got the Browns just absolutely out there doing drills on you.
01:17:53I don't...
01:17:54It happened...
01:17:54It didn't happen so fast, but it happened faster than I thought
01:17:57that they plummeted to the very, very, very, very bottom of the league.
01:18:01This sucks.
01:18:01Not the guy that I was right about.
01:18:03I always knew Tua wasn't the guy.
01:18:05I was the Tua truther from day one.
01:18:07We're in Tua hell right now.
01:18:08Yeah, bad day for all the Tua non-guys out there.
01:18:11All right, when we get back, let's talk a little baseball.
01:18:14ALCS Game 7 coming up tonight.
01:18:16And, I mean, we've got to talk Shohei, bro.
01:18:19The best individual performance you've ever seen.
01:18:21Keep it locked.
01:18:21FS1.
01:18:23Best player of all time.
01:18:24The New York Jets.
01:18:29Wake up, Barstool.
01:18:30Wake up, baseball.
01:18:32World Series almost set.
01:18:34We've got a Game 7 coming up tonight.
01:18:36We'll get to the ASCS, but we have to start with Shohei Otani.
01:18:39putting together what I would believe to be the single greatest individual performance
01:18:44that we've ever seen in a closeout game.
01:18:47Taking the mound, six innings, zero earned runs, 10 Ks, two hits, and then hitting three
01:18:54home runs.
01:18:55Guys, he had more home runs than hits allowed.
01:18:59Shohei Otani, best game ever.
01:19:02It's not just the best game in a closeout game.
01:19:05It's the best game ever played.
01:19:06No, ever.
01:19:07Yes.
01:19:07By a baseball player, and he's the greatest baseball player ever.
01:19:11I don't think it's particularly close.
01:19:14He's wildly likable.
01:19:16In a weird way, his star you almost think should be bigger than it actually is because,
01:19:24and maybe it is because we don't take into account like Japan.
01:19:29True.
01:19:29But in America, he could be, you know, bigger.
01:19:32I mean, this guy is a very likable megastar and the best we've ever seen in a sport that's
01:19:39been around for a long, long time.
01:19:41He should be the most famous person on earth, and I don't know if he is, but he should be
01:19:46the most famous person on earth.
01:19:47And it wasn't just the pitching, the 10 strikeouts.
01:19:50It wasn't just hitting.
01:19:51He was hitting bombs, Teebo.
01:19:52Yeah, yeah.
01:19:53He's hitting balls out of Dodger Stadium.
01:19:55He's on a night he is getting 10 strikeouts and getting the wind.
01:19:58He's hitting balls out of Dodger Stadium.
01:19:59He hits them like the juiced up McGuire ball.
01:20:02It's unbelievable.
01:20:03They're like just these monster fly balls that go out of the park.
01:20:08They're not even close.
01:20:09It literally looks like the roided era.
01:20:11Those McGuire and Sosa home runs where they just be out by a mile.
01:20:16So, I mean, there it is right there.
01:20:18Think about that.
01:20:19Could you imagine starting the game, you strike out the side and then go 450?
01:20:23He throws 100 miles an hour, and then he comes and hits balls 500 feet.
01:20:28It's interesting because Walker, I don't think, I agree with you.
01:20:32He's that good.
01:20:33He's dominating the sport.
01:20:35But, like, if you ask the casual, let's say, woman, I don't 100% know that they know who that is.
01:20:45Where, like, if you ask who's Tom Brady, Michael Jordan, everybody knows.
01:20:51I don't know that he has that type of, and maybe it's more of an indictment on baseball at this point than anything else.
01:20:58But he's that good.
01:21:00And he, does anyone not like, I guess if you're in his division, like, I'm an AL East guy, so he doesn't really affect my day-to-day.
01:21:08If he played for the Yankees, I may despise him.
01:21:11But there's no hate towards him.
01:21:14There might be some residuals.
01:21:15You know, people that believe the Dodgers are the new evil empire just pay for everything.
01:21:19There might be some people like that.
01:21:20Yeah, but he's still like him.
01:21:21But as far as the human being, no, I don't know that anybody just likes him.
01:21:23Maybe what holds him back here in America is, I mean, is it as simple as, yeah, it's language.
01:21:28We also did something unprecedented with his deferred payments.
01:21:31Like, he's deferring $68 million a year for the next 10 years.
01:21:34He's only making $2 million a year.
01:21:35No other athlete could do that because no other athlete makes $50 million or whatever show Otani makes in endorsements.
01:21:40And when you look back at it, and it just shows how crazy the sport is of baseball and pitching.
01:21:47But you have Mike Trout, who is in his prime, basically, and Otani on the same team.
01:21:52These guys didn't even sniff the playoffs.
01:21:54Yeah, Albert Pujols, too, on that team.
01:21:56Boy, crazy.
01:21:57Just shows.
01:21:59Position players, great.
01:22:02I mean, but this is still a game of pitching and catching the baseball.
01:22:06No, Otani was also, listen, just to talk about that in LCS, it was one of the biggest ass-whippens we've ever seen.
01:22:12They killed him for four games.
01:22:14Otani was terrible in that series until that game.
01:22:15Two for 14 going into that game four.
01:22:18The odds of him winning MVP, I don't know what they were, but they weren't great.
01:22:21Like, he needed to have that game.
01:22:22One game, he won MVP.
01:22:23Now, you know who wasn't terrible, though?
01:22:25Dodgers starters in 10 playoff games, a combined 9-1 with a 1-4 ERA.
01:22:30So, tonight, we'll see a game seven for the right to take on the Evil Empire.
01:22:36And what a game seven this is set up to be, guys.
01:22:38In Toronto, it's Toronto's first game seven in 40 years.
01:22:42It's the Mariners' first game seven ever.
01:22:44It's going to be electric.
01:22:45It's going to be intense.
01:22:46Everything on the line.
01:22:48The Mariners blowing a golden opportunity in game six over the weekend.
01:22:52Really just playing a poor game.
01:22:54Errors all over the field.
01:22:56Meek, you got any predicts for tonight?
01:22:58Well, I have some game seven stats.
01:22:59Okay, yeah.
01:23:00The home team is 30-29 all-time in game seven.
01:23:03Oh, wow.
01:23:03Close to my thought.
01:23:04That's not really.
01:23:04Seven of the last eight home teams have lost.
01:23:06Last time a home team has won in front of their fans for a game seven, you have to go back to a 2012 NLCS for the San Francisco Giants.
01:23:12I'll wait in my bed.
01:23:13The 2017 Houston Astros who cheated.
01:23:15So, done.
01:23:18Baseball is one of those sports.
01:23:20You're only as good as the guy on the mound.
01:23:22Who knows who comes out, Kirby or Bieber tonight.
01:23:26But, you know, neither of them to me are like these classic hosses.
01:23:30They're not like a Schilling or a Bumgarner or guys that you know are just Beckett in his prime.
01:23:36Guys that you know are going to step on the mound and just shove and they're going to give you like eight innings.
01:23:41And if you score a run, you're happy.
01:23:42I think this has a chance to be a high-scoring game.
01:23:46But, you know, baseball is, of all the sports, when you get into a game seven, hockey probably too.
01:23:53I don't really put it on nerves or anything.
01:23:55Somebody's going to get a big hit.
01:23:56Somebody's going to get hot.
01:23:57But there's a lot of luck going on involved tonight.
01:24:00Who has it?
01:24:01Who doesn't?
01:24:02It's not something you turn on.
01:24:04And these teams could play a game seven a hundred times.
01:24:08And 50 of the times the Blue Jays could win.
01:24:1050 of the Mariners.
01:24:11Where you play game seven in, like, basketball, football, I feel like the better team wins most of those times.
01:24:17Here, who knows?
01:24:17Who knows?
01:24:18Give me a reason to believe this is not just to crown whoever gets sacrificed to the Dodgers.
01:24:23The Mariners have the better pitching that can match up with the Dodgers.
01:24:26The Blue Jays have the lineup that can match up with them.
01:24:29I also think the Dodgers beat either of these teams in five games.
01:24:31But tonight just means everything.
01:24:33You never know about baseball.
01:24:34Yeah.
01:24:34And, again, I love long-suffering fan bases having chances to reach the promised land.
01:24:41And both of these, especially the Seattle Mariners, I mean, two of the longest-suffering out there.
01:24:45They've never made a World Series in their entire history.
01:24:48Like, if they win tonight, that's the biggest win in their franchise history.
01:24:51I mean, Eugenio Suarez in the Grand Slam the other day, it's probably the second biggest hit in their franchise.
01:24:55But on Edgar Martinez, who literally saved them from just moving out of Seattle.
01:24:58And so, look, that's all going down tonight.
01:25:01Where?
01:25:02On Fox, guys.
01:25:03Okay, you see right there, 8.080 is going to be first pitch.
01:25:06It's going to be electric.
01:25:07Oh, speaking of baseball, how about Tony Vitello?
01:25:10Let's close out the show next here on FS1.
01:25:14Tony Vitello.
01:25:15Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool.
01:25:20So, every single Monday at the end of the show, our two beautifully-minded nerds behind the glass there.
01:25:26Meek Phil and Liam Blutman, tell us what we missed.
01:25:28Boys, what did we miss today?
01:25:30The baseball story in our company, Chris Klemmer would want me to talk about the greatest performances in baseball history that aren't Choyotani.
01:25:371967 World Series, Bob Gibson pitched a complete game and hit a home run.
01:25:401905 World Series, Christy Mathewson threw a complete game shutout on one day's rest, throwing out a complete game shutout the day before that.
01:25:49And then the 1920 World Series, Stan Kowalski threw a Game 7 shutout on two days rest, back when the World Series was the best out of nine.
01:25:57So, Chris Klemmer would appreciate that.
01:25:59And I also want to shout out…
01:26:00Klemmer literally texted you to do that?
01:26:03No, it's just I know he would want me to.
01:26:05Got it.
01:26:07Someone tweeted at us, you guys need to call out BFW more.
01:26:10He punishes every team except these overrated SEC teams every time they lose.
01:26:14Why is that?
01:26:15Just because they rank these mediocre SEC teams doesn't mean they're a good loss.
01:26:19He punishes every team except for the SEC team.
01:26:23I like Brandon's fake crap.
01:26:24I punish the SEC teams too.
01:26:26I get on…
01:26:26Look, I've got A&M behind Alabama.
01:26:28A&M's undefeated.
01:26:30You guys make up this world where I'm anti-everybody else and I'm pro-SEC.
01:26:33I'm not.
01:26:34I'm anti-SEC too.
01:26:36Well, why didn't you rank Washington or Nebraska last week?
01:26:38Because they're both terrible.
01:26:39Well, did you see Nebraska go on the road and lose to Minnesota?
01:26:42Oh, yeah.
01:26:42Nebraska has been free, free money.
01:26:46I don't…
01:26:47You want to talk Nebraska.
01:26:48Why in the world would Penn State be interested in Matt Rule?
01:26:51Don't know.
01:26:52Good question.
01:26:53I have no idea why that's the guy they've circled so far because he has done nothing at Nebraska.
01:26:58Because they're friends.
01:26:59I guess Pat Craft was friends with them.
01:27:01But, I mean, Penn State's mad they can't win a big game.
01:27:03So, you're going to bring in the guy who really can't win a big game.
01:27:06So, I'm not going to do the money, Quinn thing.
01:27:08I'll leave that to you.
01:27:09Brandon Walker, I'll focus on you.
01:27:11Mississippi State has had the opposing coach fired three times in the last five years after beating Mississippi State?
01:27:19That is an unbelievable stat.
01:27:21That's a crazy stat.
01:27:22If you even let Mississippi State hang around…
01:27:25Cherry picks.
01:27:27You guys know good and well Napier, the decision to fire Napier was made way before that game.
01:27:33It was always going to be that week.
01:27:34That's still funny.
01:27:35It was always…
01:27:36I'll hit you with this baseball.
01:27:37And, listen, Jeff Lebby, you're doing the right things.
01:27:41I support you.
01:27:42You're going for it the other day.
01:27:44You were trying to get your kicker closer.
01:27:45The quarterback just made a bad read.
01:27:46He's a great quarterback.
01:27:47You're a great coach.
01:27:48Everything's good.
01:27:49I'll see you Saturday, Starfleet.
01:27:50Dave, did you see what happened to Rico Bosco's college this weekend?
01:27:56Division III running back, Monty Quinn, going up against Rico's school.
01:28:0120 carries for over 500 yards and seven touchdowns.
01:28:06The scale behavior.
01:28:07College football record.
01:28:08Against Nichols?
01:28:09Yes, against Nichols.
01:28:11Monty averaged over 25 yards a carry.
01:28:14Gotcha culture right here.
01:28:16I'm just saying this.
01:28:17Lincoln Riley, 0-6 in his last six at top 25 teams.
01:28:27Loser.
01:28:2831-16 through his first 47 games as USC head coach.
01:28:32Clay Helton was 32-15.
01:28:34You know what I saw a lot of this weekend?
01:28:35O'Reilly did not shake Marcus Freeman's hand.
01:28:38Loser.
01:28:39I saw a lot of teams, a lot of teams who are driving the football try to mix in trick plays
01:28:45that just absolutely torpedoed their drive.
01:28:48Yeah.
01:28:49USC being one of them.
01:28:50If you're running the ball down the throat, throwing with ease and normal, why do you need
01:28:53a trick play?
01:28:55Hey, guys.
01:28:55Also, we haven't mentioned him yet.
01:28:57Jeff Braum.
01:28:58Another top five win.
01:29:00Four wins when he's not even ranked against top five teams.
01:29:02Somebody hire that, man.
01:29:03Thank you to everybody for today's show.
01:29:05Thank you, boys.
01:29:05Great job.
01:29:06We'll see you tomorrow for more Wake Up Barstool.
01:29:08The 10 p.m. Monday Night Football Tragedy.
