In Borneo (S2E5), Ed ventures into one of the world’s toughest environments: tropical jungle. Food is scarce, humidity is oppressive, insects are relentless, and the risk of injury is high. He sustains a painful wound yet refuses to yield. Ed must find water, forage edible plants, build reliable shelter, and maintain fire under nearly impossible conditions.
This is a showcase of jungle survival: filtering water, insect management, plant knowledge, wound care, and psychological grit.

00:01This time on Maroon, I'm taking on the jungles of Borneo.
00:10Humidity takes its toll.
00:13That's a bit minging.
00:15I am furious.
00:18And I struggle to survive.
00:20Come on!
00:21In one of my toughest challenges yet.
00:24Yes!
00:26Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
00:28I'm Ed Stafford.
00:30I've walked the length of the Amazon and survived on a desert island with only a camera to film my adventure.
00:37Now, I've set myself a new challenge to prove I can make it in some of the world's toughest environments.
00:46Using only what I find around me.
00:49Well, you had a kidney and a bit of liver.
00:51I'll be left completely alone for ten days with nothing.
00:54Words cannot describe how I feel right now.
00:58No film crew.
01:00No food.
01:01No water.
01:02The sun is directly overhead.
01:03It's boiling hot.
01:04Not even a knife.
01:06Right, come on Ed, get a move on.
01:08This time, it's about more than survival.
01:11I want to see if I can thrive.
01:13Anywhere.
01:14I'm being dropped into an area of rainforest that covers more than half a million square kilometers in the land of the headhunters.
01:30I'm in Southeast Asia on the equatorial island of Borneo.
01:34I want to prove to myself that I could survive here using only what I can find in the jungle.
01:41Local Iban tribesmen are teaching me some of their ancient knowledge before I start my challenge.
01:46Out of respect for their culture, I'm not starting naked.
01:56They're taking me deep into an area where the special forces train, where I'll be left completely alone for ten days.
02:03This challenge is fraught with danger.
02:19Okay, this is it.
02:21I've just been dropped off in the most amazing location.
02:24Crikey.
02:25I'm on a very, very thin path that drops off incredibly steeply.
02:35I don't have a machete, I don't have a knife, I don't have any form of cutting tool.
02:40I don't have a hammock, I don't have a mosquito net.
02:43I don't have any food.
02:45I don't have a rucksack.
02:47What I do have is everything that I need in order to film myself.
02:51So I've got cameras, batteries, I've got emergency comms equipment and I've got an emergency medical kit.
02:59It's in the high thirties and I'm sweating three litres an hour.
03:04Without water, I'll quickly dehydrate.
03:08With no one else to rely on, I need to take stock and prioritise.
03:13There's no right or wrong Stafford, don't worry about it.
03:15But you just need to work out the simplest way of dropping down off this high ground and getting water.
03:24Time's against me.
03:25It's just three hours until sunset.
03:27I know that in these sorts of situations, the worst thing you can do is hurry.
03:39Which is easier said than done when you're in a bit of a rush.
03:42I need to take my time and make informed decisions.
03:50I'm quite likely in this direction.
03:53And if I can hit a little river, then I've got water and I've got a place to put myself for the night.
04:00Water.
04:02Water.
04:04Every step seems to be next to or on something spiky or sharp.
04:19And I'm not a barefoot hippie at home.
04:22I wear shoes.
04:24So my feet are lumbed and soft.
04:29And complaining.
04:31After dark, the jungle comes alive.
04:34Venomous snakes, spiders and scorpions become more active.
04:39And it will be too dangerous to move.
04:41I've got to get myself sorted by then.
04:46Mosquitoes sucking my legs.
04:48Could be a sign.
04:50I'm getting closer to water.
04:52The mosquitoes are starting to come up.
04:54Mosquitoes only breed near water.
04:57I must be close.
04:59I have got water.
05:03But it's not running.
05:06And one of the most important things about getting water from a small stream is that it's flowing and it's not sitting.
05:15It's sitting.
05:16It's harboring diseases.
05:19Probably not worth the risk, is it, Ed?
05:23I'm really under pressure.
05:24I have no shelter and I haven't got a water source.
05:27And I have just over an hour to sort both.
05:30Can you hear that?
05:31There's flowing water.
05:33Trickle, trickle, trickle, trickle, trickle.
05:35Nice one.
05:37You've got flowing water.
05:38Okay.
05:39I've got water.
05:40Let's look for the best place around here.
05:42To locate myself for the night.
05:43I need to drink.
05:44But first, I'll find a safe place to shelter.
05:45I don't want to share a bed with anything that bites.
05:46I don't want to share a bed with anything that bites.
05:47I'm running out of daylight hours.
05:48That's my problem.
05:49With this little time, I just need to find myself a, erm...
05:50...an...
05:51...an...
05:52...an...
05:53...an...
05:54...an...
05:55...an...
06:03...an...
06:16...
06:20...
06:23it's not gonna be a palace I don't need it to be in other jungles I've learned
06:30the importance of clearing the sheltered floor anything could be hiding there
06:37okay there's a lance nest there so I can't be here
06:43annoying need to find a new location
06:49okay this is interesting here I have found Guinness know I can use these leaves in order to keep a good
07:02amount of the rain out actually that's a really good find on that one with no tools I have to
07:09make the jungle work for me instead of fighting against it what I'm doing here to make almost
07:17like a geodesic tent um essentially I'm just bending these saplings over tying them my cordage
07:24my string is literally just these roots in vines I don't need walls just protection from the rain
07:32which can top four meters a year I'm seriously running out of time now um very distinctive
07:39sound of the cicada is getting higher like really much higher which means through about half an hour
07:44until half an hour until last light it's gonna get dark
07:50okay my framework's in place all I need now is to put the palm leaves on top and I've got
07:57myself a reasonably dry night tonight one
08:00not yet drank anything I've not yet going down to the river
08:06the shelter's good enough for tonight daylight's fading fast and I need water now
08:14drink
08:18splash your face wash your body
08:20and um go back up the hill before you get disorientated in the dark
08:24ideally I'd boil it but the water's flowing it's a gamble I have to take
08:32that tastes clean
08:35I could smell animal clearly there must be some animal clothes
08:51I should be safely in my shelter well before nightfall
08:55it's a dangerous mistake night vision needed now
09:01my shelter is nearby but in the dark I can't get my bearings
09:08I'm gonna have a look into clothesline
09:24I'm covered in mosquitoes and as soon as I can I need to um I need to get a fire going don't I
09:33come on with primitive tools I struggle to survive
09:38come on
09:40and food is so scarce I'll eat anything
09:44I'm marooned alone in the jungles of Borneo with no one and nothing to help me
09:56good morning it's not yet six o'clock it's um day two
10:00the mosquitoes are just sucking me dry
10:04I hardly slept but if I'm going to prove to myself that I can thrive here
10:10I need a plan of action what I want to do down by the river is go and have a look for frogs
10:16um
10:17or shall I not do that until I've got a fire going
10:22shall we just focus on getting a fire going today Ed because if you get a frog
10:26and catch it it's going to be pretty ringing roar anyway isn't it
10:30um yeah just get a fire going
10:35I'm prioritising fire with one I can cook and keep mosquitoes at bay
10:44all day long mosquitoes are biting me
10:52yeah we've got problems with lenses fogging up
10:57it's nearly 100% humidity and 35 degrees inside the jungle
11:03and I'm having trouble with condensation
11:05inside the camera
11:07everything here is wet
11:10my challenge now is to find dry wood and tinder for fire lighting
11:14nearby is a river and all the water I need
11:19beyond that I discover an old special forces camp where I scavenge wire
11:24plastic bottles string and other materials
11:28it's metal whether it's lead I'm not sure
11:31it's a great haul
11:34I can use it to build a bow drill and make fire by friction
11:38if it works it will mean the difference between surviving and thriving
11:44this is always hardest method to begin with
11:47let's just have a crack
11:50I've done this hundreds of times before but never in an environment as wet as this
11:58it's draining every last ounce of my energy
12:05but even though there's smoke I can't get fire
12:10I can't do any better than that
12:17I can't do any better than that
12:21another eight days here without fire is a daunting prospect
12:26I haven't eaten since I arrived I'm running on empty and my immune system is suffering
12:34I cut my foot on the way down from the high ground
12:38but it's just started to go funny you know when a wound doesn't heal and it just has that layer of white over the top
12:45that's like slimy stuff so I need to keep track of that because it's on the base of my foot and it's not healing
12:51out here dirt from the jungle floor may well cause an infection
12:57to stand any chance of fighting one off I need to get some calories inside me
13:02there's a jungle ginger with the darker underside of the leaves
13:08this palm here is covered in spikes but in theory you should have a palm heart
13:20all palms do and hopefully it's big enough and edible enough
13:25to be worth hacking through all the spikes and spines
13:28palm hearts are harvested all over the world
13:32they're not always easy to get to but they are a reliable source of carbohydrate
13:37and that's just taken me probably less than a minute
13:41oh my god that's edible
13:45Stafford why haven't you been eating these
13:50because of the spikes I suppose
13:54but that is so easy
13:56if you know where to look there is plenty of food here
14:01little grub
14:02every morsel counts
14:08pound for pound maggots contain more protein than beef
14:14and they're highly calorific
14:15actually I'm so hungry that I wanted to taste that
14:20there was no gulping it down hole
14:22I wanted to know what it tasted like
14:24bland
14:27nothing horrible at all
14:29just going to give this another shot
14:33reinvigorated
14:35renewed
14:35not sweating
14:36let's see how it goes
14:39spitting on the handpiece will reduce friction on the top of the drill
14:44I can't afford to waste any more energy
14:48a short rest and a few calories is paying dividends
14:54the bow works
15:08yes
15:10you know it's one step
15:12can I transform this amber though
15:16this should be the easy part
15:22but like everything else out here
15:25the tender's damp
15:27can't help but think that getting the ember is the hard bit
15:32and I've got the ember there
15:33failed to transform it into a fire
15:35it's quite humbling I have to say
15:40I can't believe I lost that ember
15:44that's really bad Ed
15:48that's really bad isn't it
15:50I've got to put the fire on pause now
16:08and eat something
16:10it's nearly five o'clock
16:11at the end of day three
16:12and I have to get some sort of meat inside me
16:17I'm making a crude fish trap
16:20using a bottle I found at the special forces camp
16:23top into the bottom inverted
16:26it's a technique I've used before
16:29with answers bait
16:31I've got a good chance of catching something
16:34let's see if this attracts any fish
16:36I need protein
16:38but the trap will take time to work
16:41I'll come back and check it before dark
16:43I can graze on them
16:46on the shoots
16:47and the palm hearts and stuff
16:50but they're so calorie sparse
16:53they're like eating
16:54like trying to
16:56trying to fill up on cucumber and celery
17:00oh no I've started thinking about food now
17:03as I imagined celery
17:07I imagined the fridge drawer
17:09and then I imagined the kitchen
17:11and peanut butter
17:12and toast
17:13oh my god
17:18don't torture yourself
17:20Stalford
17:21cake
17:22I've already caught one crayfish
17:28in this one
17:28this is an old trap
17:39that somebody else put in
17:40no way
17:43it's just the lucky break I need
17:48that's ridiculous
17:49it was probably set as part of an army training exercise
17:52this is the same trap
17:53you can see how old it is
17:55now
17:56some of the fish in here
17:58are going to be very hot
17:59but there's some alive ones
18:01I know I should cook these
18:11and I want to cook them
18:12and when I have a fart
18:15I will cook them
18:16but they're alive
18:19therefore they're not diseased
18:21and I'm hungry
18:29to the point of desperation
18:33tomorrow I'll focus on fire again
18:37now I need to keep the mozzies at bay
18:41so I can sleep
18:41right let's arrange my bed
18:44I've laid out the palm leaves
18:48so I'm going to put it beside me
18:50and then carefully place over me
18:51fingers crossed
18:53stop the mosquitoes from biting me
18:55because they've already started
18:57well if this works
18:59that will be phenomenal
19:01it's not ideal
19:02but without fire
19:04the mozzies are driving me mad
19:06and they fire in order to
19:07to stop the mozzies at night
19:11in order to heat me at night
19:12in order to cook
19:15in order to boil the water
19:16in the streams
19:17I need it for everything
19:18fire is just around the corner
19:20I can smell it
19:22I slept well under my palm leaf bedding
19:30and while I still feel fresh
19:32I'm determined to get a fire started
19:34the strings snapped
19:47walk away Ed
19:51walk away
19:52I just keep
19:54hitting a brick wall
19:56and um
19:57I am furious
20:08desperate as I am
20:15carrying on with fire making
20:17would be counterproductive
20:19I have to focus on something else
20:21in order to have a fire
20:24I need to um
20:25have a shelter that will be big enough
20:27to protect me and my fire
20:29I'm just going to use a classic
20:33square lashing
20:36like I was taught in the scouts
20:38square lashing is a simple load-bearing knot
20:42all I need to do now is put the leaves on again
20:47starting low ending high
20:49by setting myself
20:54a simple achievable task
20:56I've changed my frame of mind
20:58the shelter's now twice as big
21:05which is great
21:06perfect
21:07now I can get back to the fire
21:10but I'm down to the last bit
21:13of scaven string
21:14this has to work
21:16come on
21:17my desperate quest for fire continues
21:26and the jungle gets the better of me
21:30it looks like a job grows
21:32I'm Ed Stafford
21:38I'm alone
21:39and barely surviving
21:41in a rainforest in Borneo
21:42come on
21:44I need fire
21:45but I've got no matches or lighter to help me
21:48if I can't master this technique
21:52there's no way I'll fulfill my goal of thriving here
21:55yes
22:00I've spent the best part of three days trying to light a fire
22:09I've already lost one ember
22:12I can't afford to lose another
22:14yes
22:24yes
22:24yes yes yes yes yes
22:29yes
22:30oh look at that little flicker of orange
22:36that'll be the fire then
22:38that was an effort
22:44that was an effort
22:46right get some wood in it
22:47stop punching around to the camera
22:49I'm so happy
22:51we got fire
22:54oh my god
22:56the whole place feels different with fire
22:58oh do you know what we're gonna have tonight
23:00we're gonna have barbecue prawns
23:04tapping out the shrimp on the barbie
23:06yes
23:09happy days
23:13now I can start being civilised
23:17I could have been
23:20intermittently in between
23:22making a fire
23:23attempts
23:25could have been setting traps
23:26could have been doing
23:27all sorts of things concurrently
23:29but not you Stafford
23:30no you've just got a one track mind
23:32gotta get a fire
23:33gotta get a fire
23:34and actually to give you credit
23:37this afternoon you're broken from it
23:39you've got your bedding for tonight as well
23:41not that you'll need it
23:43because you've got a fire
23:44yes
23:46yes yes yes yes yes
23:49yes
23:50yes
23:51I'm using a can
23:57I scavenged from the army camp
23:59as a makeshift cooking pot
24:00it's hot
24:05first sip
24:08of hot fluid
24:09in four days
24:10ginger tea
24:12here we go
24:13oh that's really nice
24:19that's really good
24:21with a fire
24:23my shelter is beginning
24:25to feel like home
24:26I can finally cook
24:28and smoke
24:30will keep the mosquitoes at bay
24:31I've not been bitten tonight
24:33there's no mozzies
24:34Ed's hot plate
24:38that's what that is
24:40they're toasted
24:43mmm
24:49barbecue crab
24:52that is actually
24:56very yummy
24:57things are looking up aren't they
25:02things are looking up
25:04for five days
25:08I've been focused on the basics
25:10of survival
25:11but now
25:12I feel like I've turned a corner
25:14and I'm ready to see what else the jungle has to offer
25:17I've stowed the fire up
25:19it's fanned
25:20and it's got loads of fuel
25:22I'm going to go exploring
25:25I just feel like I should
25:29expand my horizon
25:31quite literally
25:32with fire and food sorted
25:37I want to see what other resources I can find
25:40that would help me live here long term
25:42uncharted territory now
25:44by sticking close to the river
25:47I won't lose my bearings
25:49and I walk down this slope behind me
25:56and the most beautiful waterfall
25:59with the pool at the bottom
26:03which is just
26:06too good an opportunity to miss
26:10who hasn't got ten minutes in the day
26:12for a swim
26:12I'm going to relax for ten minutes
26:15a lot of people speak of the jungle as the green hell
26:36and then
26:37every now and again
26:38he's spilled down
26:40through a river like this
26:42which is just
26:43incredible
26:45quite frankly
26:46and a waterfall
26:47that quite frankly
26:48in my books
26:50beats Niagara
26:50with all the tourists
26:51nobody here
26:53except me
26:54that was a great find
27:02it's amazing
27:04what the jungle has to offer
27:05when you have the time
27:06and energy
27:07to look for it
27:08just cross the river
27:10in order to
27:11come onto an area
27:12where I'm not tramping up and down it
27:14the whole time
27:14because I want to set some traps
27:15and I don't want to disturb the traps
27:17animal trails
27:20at first
27:21you don't notice any
27:22and when you realise
27:23that amongst the foliage
27:24it's just very small
27:26maybe a foot
27:28maybe a bit less
27:29wide
27:30paths
27:31and they're actually easier
27:32to spot on hills
27:33because
27:34animals contour around hills
27:36so as you come down the hill
27:38it's quite obvious
27:39in the middle
27:39there's an animal path
27:41this is
27:41this is where
27:42animals come through
27:43it could be a deer trail
27:45a well-placed trap
27:47will give me a good chance
27:48of catching one
27:49so
27:51once I've established this path
27:54all I need to do
27:54is find myself
27:55a sapling
27:56it needs to be strong enough
27:58and yet flexible enough
27:59to lift the animal up
28:00trigger traps
28:03are used all over the world
28:04I'm making the trigger
28:08with wire
28:08I found at the special forces camp
28:10attaching that
28:11to a sapling
28:12and putting it under pressure
28:14the twigs form a pressure plate
28:17and if an animal steps on that
28:19the trap is sprung
28:20it's simple
28:23and very effective
28:24that doesn't have to be its neck
28:28if that just literally
28:28took one fall limb up
28:30get him off the floor
28:31I'll be able to have
28:32meat for supper
28:33deer in fact
28:35I'm happy with that trap
28:38that's now been set
28:39hopefully it'll be the first of many
28:41the great thing about traps
28:45is that they work
28:46while I get on
28:47with other things
28:48I really do have to be
28:52quite careful with the fire
28:53have a look at this
28:54the fire has almost
28:56gone out
28:57so this fire needs
28:59really quite
29:00constant tending
29:01I'm alone out here
29:06and I can't afford
29:07to take anything
29:08for granted
29:09every time I step on that
29:20it sends a shock
29:22right up my leg
29:24it's looking deeper
29:32that's not good
29:33it looks like it
29:34could turn into a chopper
29:36I don't like the look
29:39of that at all
29:40in the army
29:42we called this jungle rot
29:43I need to keep it
29:45as clean as I can
29:46as a result
29:49I've decided
29:49I'm going to try
29:50and make a hammock
29:50and I'm going to gather
29:53a load of cordage
29:54cordage
29:57it doesn't have to be cordage
29:58it just has to be
29:58thick and strong
29:59if I can keep my foot
30:03off the floor
30:03it'll have a better
30:04chance of healing
30:05jungle vines
30:08are the perfect
30:09material for a hammock
30:10with no tool
30:13to cut them down
30:14I'll have to improvise
30:16I've got eight
30:22strings
30:23doesn't sound
30:24extraordinarily comfortable
30:26does it
30:26eight longitudinal strings
30:27but I haven't got the energy
30:29to cut down
30:29any more vines
30:30so eight longitudinal strings
30:31it is
30:32by tying the vines together
30:35and securing them
30:36with a loop
30:37at the ends
30:37I'm hoping the hammock
30:39will take my weight
30:40I'm just going to move the fire
30:42and then have a lie down
30:44off the floor
30:45ready in his hammock
30:59I'm really pleased with this
31:02I'm off the floor
31:03supported
31:04is it as comfy
31:06as a normal hammock
31:07no
31:07I'll be honest
31:08but
31:09it's pretty cool
31:11it's pretty cool
31:13I'm happy with my progress
31:17I'm living in relative comfort
31:19but I am very hungry
31:21here we've got a little beetle
31:25a bit like a little tiny stag beetle
31:28I suppose
31:28the thing that's putting me off
31:31eating it
31:32is it's got little tiny flies
31:34all over it
31:34see on its legs
31:38you can just see
31:40second to last leg
31:42there's a fly
31:43he can eat insects
31:46can't you
31:46nice to have something crunchy actually
32:03that was um
32:08wow
32:11it's actually quite nice
32:13the beetles are now on the menu
32:17come back over to my side of the river
32:27it's gonna be
32:29sense of rain
32:31rain drops falling now
32:33get under cover
32:36because I haven't got any waterproof
32:37housing for the camera
32:40anywhere else
32:45I'd collect the rain
32:46but here
32:47I can relax
32:48safe in the knowledge
32:49that water isn't a problem
32:51it's raining
32:54quite pleased to have this shelter above my head
32:59even if it only keeps the worst off me
33:05and um
33:07stops the fire from going out
33:08that's fine by me
33:09skin is waterproof
33:12after all
33:12right have a little pause under here
33:16till the rain stops
33:18that leech on my foot
33:22that has been stuck in for a little while
33:24hasn't it
33:24that's a fat boy
33:25there's another leech between my toes
33:33it must have dropped off
33:34I haven't even seen it
33:35you can just see the uh
33:35the blood dripping away
33:37I do sometimes question my own sanity
33:40to be dropped in
33:42to any
33:43remotely hostile remote environment
33:46without anything at all
33:51in just a fair
33:53and to see how you fare
33:55that's an adventure
33:57that's a proper adventure
33:59after a night of torrential rain
34:09my shelter's intact
34:10I'm dry
34:11and my fire's still burning
34:13I'm at home here now
34:15it's just a very vivid dream
34:17that I'd caught something in the trap
34:18I was just wondering if I've become so in tune
34:22with the forest
34:22that I didn't even know
34:24well obviously I think that enough
34:30to go and check them
34:31at a ridiculous o'clock in the morning
34:34without having a cup of tea
34:35I haven't eaten a substantial meal
34:39for eight days
34:40and food is constantly on my mind
34:42I can't hear anything
34:44I can't hear any sort of panicky
34:46animal noises
34:49I can't hear anything
34:50okay
34:51my one lad's still set
34:54because then I see it bent over
34:55still
34:55don't know why I'm being quiet
34:58because they're trapped
34:59so I'm thinking you're going away
35:01I'd
35:01clear what it sprung
35:06and there's nothing in the news
35:07I wonder whether that means
35:11something sprung it
35:12or it just was set
35:15too delicately
35:17don't know
35:19let's reset it then anyway
35:22I'm confident the trap's set right
35:28next time the animal won't escape
35:30foot's no worse this morning
35:32foot's not really any better either
35:35it's infected
35:39if it gets much worse
35:41it could start to erode
35:42my muscles and tendons
35:43material from the camera kit
35:49will keep it dry
35:50and dirt free
35:51there we are
35:56perfect
35:56love coming down to the river
36:10in the morning
36:11seeing that
36:12view of the sky
36:14right this may sound gross
36:17but it's um
36:18it's just based on
36:20common sense really
36:22in the Amazon
36:24there's lots of long drop toilets
36:25long drop meaning
36:26you just sit
36:27and the poo
36:28falls a long way
36:29into a pit
36:29as you get further
36:31downstream
36:31a lot of these houses
36:32are over the water
36:34and the long drop
36:34just goes straight
36:35into the river
36:36as soon as you poo
36:37into the river
36:38fish swarm
36:39and eat your feces
36:41it's incredibly efficient
36:42at getting rid of waste
36:43it's incredibly healthy
36:44may sound a bit rank
36:46but what it does prove to me
36:48is that fish eat poo
36:49and I have run out of bait
36:51from my fish traps
36:52this is my first poo
36:55in eight days
36:56half the money used to be
37:12two trap
37:15needless to say
37:26from now on
37:27I will be collecting water
37:29and bathing
37:29further upstream
37:31good idea red
37:35this place is pretty cool
37:44you can just hear
37:46the sounds
37:47of the jungle
37:48all around you
37:49got my fire
37:51going next to me
37:52but in terms of a place
37:55which everyone
37:56is scared of
37:57but you can actually live
37:59with your bare hands
38:01and half a brain
38:03it's the jungle
38:05isn't it
38:05I love it
38:07I absolutely love it
38:09oh
38:11we've got a fish
38:13we've got one little fish
38:16and we've got more fish
38:19yes
38:21realistically I'm going to reuse
38:25the poo
38:27am I?
38:29no Ed
38:33they've worked today
38:37it was a really good idea
38:39don't reuse your own feces
38:44no no no no no
38:46I'll be sure to cook them well
38:51so in my pan
38:53today is a riverine
38:56soup
38:57and then I boil that up
38:59oh
39:05soup broth
39:06that's lovely
39:07oh
39:12I forgot that fishy taste
39:13I love it
39:15I love it
39:15I love it
39:16after days of eating shrimps
39:22and palm hearts
39:23a change in diet
39:24is a massive boost
39:25to my morale
39:26right
39:28these big lumps
39:34of fish
39:35absolutely gorgeous
39:36most definitely
39:42the best supper
39:43so far
39:44I hate being hungry
39:47I hate
39:48hate
39:49hate
39:49being hungry
39:49I'm talking
39:51days and days and days
39:52of eating virtually nothing
39:54and I've experienced it quite a few times
39:56in my life now
39:57and what it does do
40:00is make you
40:01grateful for food
40:03because
40:04when you don't have it
40:06you recognise how much
40:07you take it for granted
40:08I think the tactic of wearing
40:16this bit of cloth
40:17around my foot
40:17has worked actually
40:18and it's dried up
40:19and it's stopped
40:20getting deeper
40:21and stopped getting more yellow
40:22I think that's on the mend
40:24tomorrow is my last day
40:27alone in the jungle
40:28I set myself a target
40:29of ten days
40:30to see
40:31if I had to
40:32that I could live here
40:33long term
40:34it hasn't been easy
40:36but I've got shelter
40:38food
40:39fire
40:40and water
40:40twelve shrimps
40:42the essentials
40:43for a comfortable life
40:44day 10
40:53birds around here
40:58a ton deaf
41:02and listen to this song
41:05tender
41:13start getting your stuff
41:17together
41:18it's time to go home
41:20before going
41:28I'll dismantle my shelter
41:30in traps
41:30and leave my little patch
41:32of jungle
41:32just till I found it
41:34in a week's time
41:39you won't be able to tell
41:41that I've been here
41:42I'm proud
41:46I'm proud
41:46of my
41:47ten days
41:48in the Borneo rainforest
41:50without anything
41:51but my bare hands
41:52jungle warfare instructors
41:55only do four days
41:56in the jungle
41:57without nothing
41:57you've just done ten
41:59that's pretty cool
42:00and quite comfortably too
42:04little patch on the back
42:09Eddie
42:10alright let's go
42:12to find the Eban tribes people
42:18I'm using a simple rule
42:20of jungle navigation
42:21follow a river
42:22downstream
42:23I cannot wait
42:25to see these guys
42:26and then fight them
42:28to the ground
42:29from Mars Bar
42:30I've lived in this rainforest
42:37using skills
42:38that the Eban
42:38have honed
42:39over thousands
42:40of years
42:40last ten days
42:43if you haven't got a knife
42:45you can still do it
42:47you can make do
42:49you can adapt
42:51your way of thinking
