00:00:00promise uh guy will be there guy will be there from rebellion before
00:00:04michael andredi i don't know whether they keep mistaking them but they don't look much similar
00:00:09but guy apparently is waiting for us so we'll be going down to him in just a few moments time thank
00:00:12goodness uh retirements for you uh the list is getting longer and longer shame about that bmw
00:00:19yes and shame about them all to be honest i'm starting with the five car early one today here
00:00:24he's coming guy smith the car number 12 has a lot of problem but your car runs quite well
00:00:31how do you see the situation yeah it's very unfortunate for the 12 car um they've been
00:00:35going very well um doing very good lap times but they've got some problem with the with the heat in
00:00:40the gearbox so they're trying to cure that problem now um the 13 car has largely been trouble free
00:00:47we've had a few small problems but um so far it's going well jc's doing a great job he's doing a
00:00:53quadruple stint right now and then i'll do the same following him so i'm looking forward to it yeah
00:00:59you're running in p10 at the moment is that what you guys expected yeah i mean we'd like to take the
00:01:05fight to aston martin but they're just too quick right now i mean they're still quite a bit faster
00:01:10on the straight um we'd love to be able to race them on pace but it's not it's not possible right now
00:01:15so we just do our own race we go as quickly as we can try and stay out of trouble
00:01:20and uh just see where we end up in the morning and uh you know if we're in a position we can uh
00:01:26take advantage then we'll try to okay thank you very much
00:01:31guy smith uh in the uh 13 car and uh oh he's 13 on the other side i thought he's wearing a 12.
00:01:37yeah it's good good good to see guy there out out there obviously i know guy very well from
00:01:42racing against with the american series and in fact we got stuck in a hotel together for about four or
00:01:46five days in long beach recently when we had the uh volcanic uh problems that stopped it basically
00:01:52meant we couldn't get back from uh los angeles to to london and it was quite quite nice to hang out
00:01:56with him it's nice to see him out there doing well solidly in the top 10 at the moment and you never
00:02:00know what could happen yeah the ash cloud caused all kinds of havoc i was caught up in it myself
00:02:06so we're going to take ourselves a break it's well and truly night time here and we're on board with
00:02:10the two persia it is our lead car and it's still absolutely pedaling out there 141 laps completed
00:02:17uh with just over 15 hours and 13 minutes remaining of this phenomenal event yes it never fails uh to uh
00:02:26just fascinate it's always a different story and uh this one is far from over being told and i think
00:02:32that's the main worry for persio down there every time we go down they uh they look uh ever more worried
00:02:38despite the fact they're in positions one and two at the moment it's 50 percent down so far
00:02:43mark jenny battling back he's in seventh place at the month
00:02:50welcome back uh yeah as you can see it's uh more than relaxed down at dowdy just while we're on the
00:02:55break we were just uh checking in with uh the drayson racing lola judd which uh unfortunately is still
00:03:01having its issues with uh its floor and uh oil smell apparently which is uh slightly scary and as we uh
00:03:10just rejoin alan mcnish here i have to tell you that um mark jenny and the peugeot they may have
00:03:16had a brief break but he's just gone fastest in the opening sector and he means business uh the
00:03:22air is getting a little bit cooler out there the tires are absolutely perfect there's great vision
00:03:26because it's at night know a lot of drivers actually prefer that on occasion because everything's
00:03:30illuminated you've got to know where the enemy is uh ahead of you and also if you're being chased
00:03:35down right at the moment mark jenny is doing a lot of the chasing and it's stefan muka who he will be
00:03:41introducing himself to i should imagine on track before too long out here just checking in as well
00:03:47with the 76 map book machine uh just getting cleaned up and uh ready to go refueled and the rest and nice
00:03:54at last to see the 28 car uh coming back out here um brief hiatus for them uh they they took themselves a bit
00:04:02of a spin and had to get checked out uh that's exactly what's happened uh later on this evening
00:04:08we're going to have uh neville hayes going to be uh hosting our up all night club and so it goes very
00:04:13very dark there welcome to you welcome indeed uh there's one thing that i don't think you can
00:04:20replicate anywhere else in the world and that's the mart night there's just something about there's a magic
00:04:26about it and it doesn't matter all the racing that i've been to anywhere in the world there's something
00:04:32about the more at night that's very very special and you say why do you want to do the night because
00:04:35the night spec is the moment and as you can hear it's uh it's like dr jazz that's gonna be right
00:04:42through the night don't be like that and uh don't fear either uh eurosport.co.uk uh the message
00:04:48boards usually come alive at that time of night because uh you do generally tend to get a lot of uh
00:04:54holding of station uh through the night although uh it's it's mainly because by the time we reach
00:04:59that position beyond midnight etc uh rearing positions have uh the field has been stretched
00:05:05so much that positions can just get a little bit locked that's when the bad luck starts to happen
00:05:09and uh well the time you get to dawn as well uh all hell usually breaks loose well someone who's
00:05:16definitely finding the magic of the night at le mans is mark genet he's just done not only the fastest
00:05:21lap of his car but the fastest lap of the race right to now look at that for now in the middle of the
00:05:26night three eight two four that he's done two of the fastest sector times of the entire race and he
00:05:33is absolutely a man on a mission he will have had orders from peugeot to get up there and catch up
00:05:39which is certainly what he is doing so that's certainly something to be in awe of apparently frank
00:05:45montana was saying we said what about team orders he said uh they said don't break the car go as quick
00:05:50as you can without breaking the car uh well clearly uh that message has been taken on well and truly by
00:05:56mark genet in the one car uh peugeot have been stung by what has been their problem so far audi don't
00:06:02forget they were clocked uh behind a uh safety car a safety car issue there that uh cost them about a
00:06:07minute and a half once uh the five car of uh nigel mansell and the boys sadly in the hands of nigel
00:06:14just got into the barriers earlier on and really that uh hobbled them a bit they've been on the
00:06:18fight back ever since they've had their other issues don't forget it's not just about that
00:06:23but they have been there constantly and it's three out of these chasing down a brace of peugeot's up front
00:06:28at the moment and uh this is not the lead car but is running like it intends to be by the end of
00:06:34this race and mark genet as liz was pointing out has just done an absolute storm don't forget they
00:06:39were trying to dial out the performance of these vehicles and get them to around about three and a
00:06:44half minutes on this circuit but then what did they do uh well they may well dial out a bit of
00:06:49performance put some air restrictors on the cars but then uh they go and uh alter uh relay the uh
00:06:54porsche curves and uh change the four chicane and it seems that uh the times have come all the way back
00:06:59down the magic was uh 320 they thought if it goes below that that's very very quick
00:07:04and we're only what three quarters of a second off that mark right now yeah no this is really
00:07:10quite spectacular and i have to say as as a driver that's been here i've really loved this time of
00:07:14night this is one of the best stints at le mans it's when it's just gone in tonight it is wonderful
00:07:20experience to be here the cars are really really fast when it's dry like it is now because the air is a bit
00:07:24cooler and you're just settling in to getting used to the lights being out and it's it's just awesome
00:07:30i love it and you know a lot of drivers i think do their best times but certainly to do a time this
00:07:35close to the pole time is really quite special yeah it's clear isn't it this time of night i mean it's
00:07:40nice and concise and you've got used to the light fading strangely enough first thing in the morning i
00:07:46think is much much worse because that's when you can make a mistake particularly a little bit of
00:07:50mr will have you about this time at night you can go very very quickly indeed um mark yes i'm here
00:07:57as well mark has come to greet us come to greet us yeah i'm looking forward to your uh your night
00:08:01hour work as we say because we refer to it as the not so small not so still voice in the night
00:08:07it says well it keeps them all i tell you what i've got people sending emails saying we are awake the
00:08:11demon barbell of worcester oh absolutely
00:08:15while you're having a chat as the lmp2 positions come up danny watts has just been strapped into the
00:08:20striker car taking it over from johnny kane they're still in the lead and they managed to build up a
00:08:25one lap lead over brad's now david bradden stayed in that car for a long time now that i said it was one
00:08:31lap actually it's two minutes 15 perhaps has just gone through so even after that pit stop they've managed to
00:08:36maintain that lead and uh i think there's the problem's going to be when nick laventus gets back
00:08:40in obviously those times are going to fall it depends what the highcroft guys can do about that
00:08:45yeah i mean i think sadly that is the case and certainly you know danny watts and johnny kane will
00:08:49be doing their absolute best to pull out as far a lead as they can ahead of david brabham and everyone
00:08:54else in that car purely thinking ahead to give give nick a bit of breathing room i think so that he doesn't
00:08:59feel under too much pressure and then he can hang on to that lead for as long as he can
00:09:03and still put in consistent laps that he's comfortable doing yeah and then in fourth place
00:09:07we've got the other um hpd engine car tommy erdos he's flying at the moment isn't he he's what one
00:09:13lap down on the oak racing car of guillemoreau and if you pull him in it's going to be a honda one two
00:09:18three and actually tommy erdos has just done the two quickest sector times for that car for the race so
00:09:24like we were saying earlier with mark janet tommy erdos is also a man on a mission he's got a good
00:09:28engine car he's got one of those hpd engines in that lola uh coupe and he's just done his two
00:09:33fastest sector times he's had his last lap was a three minute 42 which is a quick which is a quick
00:09:38lap but not as quick as he can do but i think this lap we're about to see is going to be pretty special
00:09:42neville you've been watching everything tonight what's quite a bit of it yeah what's been lighting
00:09:48your fire tonight i think that well the surprises rather than lighting the fire um the surprises have
00:09:54been that i thought the aftons would probably be a bit further up we're just going out to the pits
00:09:58and they've all here to show up oh it's been a big moment to be here the second perjot here and uh
00:10:14well it's uh we've been putting a lot of uh good quick laps we've got a very good rhythm a cadence over
00:10:24you know we we are here at the port perjot but we we've been keeping the factory cars
00:10:33so we're still fighting to get that third place so you know we try and get back it's very important
00:10:38for us we got very quick drivers the car's been excellent and it's you know as quick as the factory
00:10:49cars what strategy you got for the rest of the race here we're going to look after the car right
00:11:01right throughout the night and then later perhaps the race will come back to us
00:11:06what position well after tomorrow morning i think by the time we get to midday we'll have a good idea
00:11:18where we're going to finish and uh i think if anything goes right and you know gobbling we're
00:11:28going to be there on the podium thank you good night tall order i think the podium for that car
00:11:36is but here we'll fight to the end well you never know they're not that far off to be honest so you
00:11:41know we'll just have to wait and see what comes at the end i mean the funny thing is we are not even
00:11:46halfway through this 24 hours it seems like we've been here for days but in fact we have we're only just
00:11:52crawling up on the 10 hour mark i think well we have been here for days but i mean solidly here just
00:11:57before hugh to show that room interrupted you you're just going to tell us what's been lighting your
00:12:01fire the aston's always like my fire because i love the sound of them and they're not as far as i
00:12:05hoped they would be i think the reason that everybody has gone faster than was expected is the changes
00:12:11that they've made at the circuit i think it's anything to do with the cars really at all i was very
00:12:16surprised with the suspension problem with the one peugeot and i can't remember who was on at the time
00:12:21but i thought he's might be right yeah i thought whoever was was all the time said uh this could be
00:12:29the start of something rather unfortunate but touch wood uh it hasn't happened again no but it was
00:12:35electrical the next car was yeah so we're down to two peugeos electrical's one thing but when you get
00:12:40suspension pulling out i mean poor nigel mansell uh a passenger i mean i think can you imagine 200
00:12:47miles an hour and something if you think oh no it wasn't what the time we have had that
00:12:52i wasn't sure whether it was suspension pulled out a slow puncture we're told by beach team when they
00:12:57got the black box back on the car they said it's a slow punch and they had no and then eventually it
00:13:01blew of course it blew all right didn't it and uh gt that's been pretty thrilling hasn't it gt has been
00:13:06drilling that porsche yeah sorry the uh ferrari against corbett pier cap but what a drive he had
00:13:12now do you understand the new regulations as of next year because i've asked several people explain
00:13:19it to me and nobody has really been able to put if you like meat on the bones i've just been one gt
00:13:24category gt1 finishes gt2 will be called gte gt endurance yeah but within that there'll be two
00:13:30subdivisions one for pro drivers so you can put three professional drivers in the car yeah that car will
00:13:35then race for the uh pro prize there'll be an amateur class for the gentleman drivers and they
00:13:40will race for the amateur prize but it'll still it'll all be to gt2 regulations and what about the
00:13:45prototype size prototypes uh new regulations next year as you know they're bringing down the engine
00:13:51sizes on that's what i was interested except the cars racing here this weekend including these this car
00:13:56they could they'll be grandfathered for further year so they can continue for another year i'm gonna have
00:14:01to interrupt you guys for a minute because mark janet has just done a three minute 19 in the night
00:14:08yeah so i think that's pretty huge actually considering that that was a qualifying time
00:14:13roundabout and i think that's telling us that persio had a little bit more in the bag than maybe they
00:14:18showed us in qualifying right now if you're sitting at home in serbiton with your beer on your sofa
00:14:22watching our coverage tonight why lose at this time of night would that happen well i think i think like we
00:14:27talked about a bit earlier that the the air is a bit cooler you know this is the time when everybody
00:14:32sort of settles in and i think as a driver you sort of you settle into the night you've gotten used
00:14:36to it being dark you're comfortable in the dark it's great you know well it won't matter for them
00:14:41because they don't have that many cars coming up behind them but i suppose for the slower cars
00:14:44it's nicer because you can see the different lights coming the gt lights are yellow and the prototype
00:14:49lights are white so you know when they're coming but it's just that magic time of night you just
00:14:53settle in and obviously march in a is very very comfortable just hit the street spot that would
00:14:57be the uh the answer i think it's the fastest that we've had actually over the weekend we're going
00:15:02back down to the pit another interview coming up stephan sarraza everything is working well with the
00:15:07number two car yeah at the moment everything is going well we're happy with the car so we're the
00:15:14few programs with the number three and uh number three stop and number one at uh so it's a very
00:15:21difficult race very long so everything can happen and uh it's lemon you're getting into the car now i
00:15:28suppose yeah i'm going uh in 20 minutes for how long what kind of strategy do you have for how many
00:15:36stints are you going to stay in the car i will stay around uh three hours around three hours will be tough
00:15:41because it's going colder and um i need to push okay all the best so stephan sarah's i'm just
00:15:49confirming they are doing triple stints in those cars out here we're talking about quadruple stints
00:15:53weren't they but uh we shall see four hours but is that this in the early morning and that's not too
00:15:59onerous if the adrenaline is going and you're focused yeah i think i think a quad stint ends up being
00:16:04around about three and a half hours just about because the stint is usually just under an hour in one of these
00:16:08cars but it's a long time in a car i'm not going to say it isn't it is for anybody but certainly for
00:16:13these drivers they're fit enough they're definitely ready to do the job and this is this is their job
00:16:18so basically they just settle in and they do the times and the cars are going really sweetly that time
00:16:23of night you can just hammer along and the beauty of it is is that the tire will last for that many
00:16:27stints because it's so much cooler you don't have the heat of the day it really does make a difference
00:16:31and i i would say most of the top drivers if they can and the other thing that we just said earlier
00:16:37about the fast times at night of course we have lost a lot of cars now i think we've lost about 10
00:16:42of the entry already and so the track is getting a little bit less busy isn't it absolutely and that'll
00:16:48make a big difference that every time you get a little bit less car out there you have less traffic
00:16:52and less stuff to worry about so that's certainly going to allow these very very quick cars to go even
00:16:57quicker because they're not going to have so many slow vehicles holding them up and a lot of the
00:17:01cars we've lost have been some slower gt cars so never always say goodbye to you but you are going
00:17:05to be coming back for a long long shift in the night so won't call it the graveyard shift because
00:17:10it has all the wrong meanings but never gets a pat on the back and just to send him away in style
00:17:18we've got a message from jonathan ara says nev you're a legend and looking forward to the night owl stories
00:17:24commentary uh the rose boys at the demon barber are all installed and they're waiting for nev to
00:17:31start his stuff so there you go you see the the fan base is already assembling a legend of his own
00:17:38lunch time lunch time it was oh yes still going isn't it started at 11 o'clock this morning so the one
00:17:45car uh is uh finally coming in uh they need plenty more fuel on that machine it was very very light and
00:17:52going very very quickly yes it is sorry i was just reading something else i had a total moment there
00:18:00i think i think we've got a lot of people going very quickly i've just seen one of the quickest
00:18:04sector times for the audi number nine car with timo bernhardt in that um and timo a real technician
00:18:10behind the wheel in one of these cars he was fantastic in the porsche spider as well i raced
00:18:14against him in the american lemon series the first year that that car came out and him and roman
00:18:19dumas have been teammates for almost six years so they definitely work well in this car together
00:18:23and of course march in a still pulling out those quicker and quicker times was i going mad didn't
00:18:28i just see the one car taking a stop or was that yeah he just he just stopped just got out yeah march
00:18:32in a and uh not only has he just gone out but he's actually quickest sector in the second
00:18:38that was before he came in yeah uh good point to make liz you you just mentioned about uh bergmeister and
00:18:44dumas mike rockefeller as well those three basically all porsche drivers and people who
00:18:50probably maybe not be aware but of course audi now owns porsche volkswagen audi own porsche now so
00:18:56this is why you can use family members to bring them into the team and this is what audi did very
00:19:01cleverly took the best porsche drives in the world they're putting them in their own team for this race
00:19:05they did absolutely which is which has been fantastic in a real real up point for audi um some confusion as
00:19:12to which channel we're actually on apparently we're on both of them at the moment uh because
00:19:16we're getting uh two feeds from uh different directors i believe we're now crossing to eurosport
00:19:21too but um all the balls are in the air welcome back to eurosport whichever channel you're on we've
00:19:27been chopping and changing tonight carlton kirby our dear friend here in the studio totally confused but
00:19:32don't worry so are we this holiday and myself and here we are this we've been we've been talking to
00:19:38the ice cream man standing behind us for about a nice 15 minutes and better a lot of retirements
00:19:43tonight we said earlier which means that the leading gt1 car the thomas munchford has now appeared in the
00:19:50top 21 cars yes this race but the biggest battles at the moment continue to be lmp2 danny watts leading
00:19:57david brabham this this is the dream battle those two they've been at each other all season and here
00:20:02they are on track together at the moment and they are trading fastest laps 340 for danny on the last
00:20:07339 for grabs i'm actually really looking forward to seeing you know how nick laventus is going to
00:20:14take this when he gets back in if maybe he's actually going to be quicker in the night and be able
00:20:18to put in a consistent time that's maybe a little bit faster but it's going to be interesting to see uh
00:20:23see also if brabs can reel him in uh film my 88 car uh i think they were the ones that had some
00:20:28issues when it came to free practice and uh uh actually halted us uh strapping the track if i'm
00:20:33not mistaken for the 88 car in uh konoka has hands at the moment's running 37th but uh crucially for
00:20:40them they're not having such a bad run in gt2 considering the problems that they might have had
00:20:45earlier on uh once again we're back to audi it looks absolutely pristine knocked a piece of chewing gum
00:20:50out of place as you can see it's uh it's quite amazing and how do those boys breathe yeah they're
00:20:55about to bring timo bernhardt in he's due for a pit stop whether or not he's going to change i'm not
00:20:59sure sure how long it's been in the car but uh number eight car in the hands of marcel fast and
00:21:04there's two out his first first and second in the audi class uh which leaves the number seven car
00:21:11in third alan mcnish and that's uh how qualifying was on the first night
00:21:15mcnish managed to raise the stakes a bit but liz people keep saying is this the uh beginning of
00:21:22the end for the older guys all these young guns coming in and they're blowing off the old guard
00:21:27i don't think so i don't think it should be that way because i would challenge anybody to take on
00:21:32the trio of mcnish and you know those those other boys they're just they're just amazing and they just
00:21:38keep pulling the times out and they're so fast they know exactly what to do out there and you watch
00:21:42them race and they are so smooth every one of them there's just not a single hair out of place
00:21:47and carlton looks like he's about to bust a cut in a minute i'm wondering why no i can't tell you uh 72
00:21:52car uh gregoire's just to come in uh off second place uh the ford of mush is leaving this class
00:22:00and look at this uh it does take its toll out there uh on everybody it's amazing that you can actually
00:22:04sleep in conditions like this keeping your energy levels up as well we saw as we were just uh making
00:22:10useless of ourselves in the rebellion uh area they were just uh taking on some uh proper carbs to
00:22:15give them energy later on uh i know it's uh you yourself uh this would never would never actually
00:22:20uh have a sit down for a proper meal you you basically just keep yourself at a certain certain
00:22:24level it's vital isn't it to keep those energy bars coming in it is yeah and you just want to make
00:22:29sure that you don't fill yourself up too heavily i usually am lucky enough to have a trainer there and
00:22:33to be honest i try and just say tell me when to eat and when to drink and then you make sure you do it
00:22:37properly the team of bernhard stays on board indeed um just fuel going in changing drink bottles
00:22:42checking fluids no tires there as we heard they'll be triple or even quadruple stinting the tires
00:22:47through the night now as the temperatures get cooler these michelans are just incredibly durable
00:22:52that 72 car has been taken into the garage as you saw and uh the front covers are off and uh i think
00:22:58it's probably a cooling problem that they've got out there and as the temperatures do for it's getting a
00:23:02little bit chilly out there nothing too serious but we're expecting the uh coldest part of the night
00:23:07to be down to around about 13 celsius and there's a real breeze coming in here as well and it's a bit
00:23:13of a chilly one which gives some respite because we've had a real mix the last couple of days it's
00:23:18been quite muggy oh that's big that is big check that out and we're just on the end of this incident
00:23:24by the looks of things he's managed to bring it all the way back phenomenal effort uh still can't see
00:23:31because uh exactly which of the i think it's the 24 car no it is the 24 you're absolutely right jean
00:23:36francois lay on in the pescarola one of the oak cars these are the cars that were oak of course
00:23:42had a podium here last year did a great job this is jean nicolais team in he comes and he's had a big
00:23:47off on that right on that left front lid yeah three wheels on my wagon that's uh going straight
00:23:53that is a long fix you can see there's been suspension damage it's missing an entire left front on
00:23:58that car damage to the rear as well i mean this is this could be the end of them to be honest um
00:24:03because there is the rule that you must finish 75 of the race and i believe that still stands and
00:24:08usually when you come in with a big accident like this the team clicks the stopwatch and says when
00:24:13we reach that point where we can't be classified we pull the plug so i hope for their sake this is
00:24:17fixable yeah i think some of you have been asking that exact question why do they work so hard and then
00:24:22pull out it's because that time has been hit it's already gone off that was actually at the ford
00:24:26chicane because he comes straight into the pit road uh at least he could go that but liz people
00:24:31will keep asking why when a car comes in that state why is the first thing they do refuel it
00:24:37it tends to be a general rule really it's basically you you do all the basics first you do the refuel
00:24:42and you get the car ready to just come out of the garage and go because basically if you think
00:24:45about it when you pull the car up out to then go back out if you had to fuel it you'd have to push it
00:24:50back you're wasting you're wasting time the lead two cars from gt1 are both in the garage now this
00:24:58means that the saline that we're talking about this a little bit early on might have all luck in the
00:25:03world because uh the saline i'm just trying to see is a little on the same lap as the second place car
00:25:10and two behind this vehicle wow might be that the granddaddy gt1 cars start to pull up we've got
00:25:17you know to the saline's been around for ages the corvettes are six years old i think that are out
00:25:22there and maybe they're the ones who are going to keep pulling through and this car looks like
00:25:25it's been around for an awful long time uh although the ford gt uh not afforded gt40 but i think we
00:25:31occasionally refer to it in error and look at this uh no great haste going on either although
00:25:37there are some pretty uh nimble hands working down they're working on the engine aren't they
00:25:42corvette being front-engined of course but uh as you say carlton this gt1 class beginning to
00:25:48self-destruct so julian root canal is his own uh in the saline there the number 50 car 29th overall
00:25:55and uh he is going to be our class leader in a couple of laps julian root canal that's what they
00:26:01called him yeah and there will be a nice prize for somebody on ebay possibly the uh nice wing of the
00:26:07maltech car being thrown over the top well it was in such a state uh what i'm worried about is uh
00:26:12bits of carbon fiber and fiberglass and all kinds of other stuff that have been uh strewn as it uh
00:26:17made itself very luckily i've got to say uh back into this area because um they were in the right
00:26:25part of the track to have a very nasty accident absolutely and we'll just have to wait and see
00:26:28what comes of that it doesn't look like there's enough debris to cause a safety car which which to
00:26:32be fair a safety car right now would be a bit of a mess so i think they have to weigh that up
00:26:37when they're looking at do we pull multiple safety cars onto this huge racetrack or do we just carry
00:26:42on and a little bit more work going on but it's all cleaning at the moment and that little uh hoop
00:26:49shaped visor uh just in front of the driver um is ever so important uh it may look like absolutely
00:26:57nothing it is but it serves a terrific purpose it's one of the things that they actually concentrate on
00:27:01it must be absolutely caked in all kinds of stuff yeah it is interesting it really just sort of
00:27:06cuts back some of the the wind drag you get on on your head to be honest which is quite useful safety
00:27:11cars out our safety car is out there you go we were just saying it there's a front there's a front
00:27:15wheel somewhere somewhere yeah it must be close nobody knows where it is might still be rolling yes
00:27:23for the third time in this uh 78th edition of the le mans 24 hours we have safety cars on the track
00:27:28three cars go out remember they do not under aco rules you have to pick up the leaders or the class
00:27:34leaders unlike alms imsa rules as liz has told us so many times today and this is going to play right
00:27:41into the hands of mr martin in the one car here he's only just fueled or fairly recently anyway
00:27:46he's on track at the moment behind the loyal aston martin 007 and crucially alan mcnish as well
00:27:52has been on a bit of a charge they're all on lap 147 as the safety car comes out a couple of laps ahead
00:27:57of them are faster and bernard uh audi and ahead of them by a solitary lap again is montagne and lapierre
00:28:05in the peugeot's two and four so this is going to bring the field hopefully uh back together yeah
00:28:12but we've got a number of teams waiting in the pit lane i think ready to receive their cars for
00:28:16fuelings this is coming at the wrong time for them because as we've seen earlier behind these safety
00:28:20cars if you stop try and go out again you're going to get held up for maybe half a lap well you know i've
00:28:25got to be honest i think it's a bit of a mess i'm not very impressed by that whole sequence because
00:28:29what we basically do is ta-da we've got a safety car now all of your race preparation all of your
00:28:34hard work means nothing because it's just down to the potluck of where you might end up behind which
00:28:39safety car and if you get stuffed when you want to come out of pit lane so i'm not very happy about
00:28:44that i gotta be honest peugeot is held up as they try to go out wow who else is now then we were just
00:28:51talking up the saline out there that's now going to be slowed right down don't forget so all of a
00:28:56sudden a bit of a break for ford and for corvette we're both inside the garage don't forget at the
00:29:01moment and the second it's the second place car by the way lapierre's car that's been halted at the
00:29:05oh my goodness he's going to lose a half a lap or maybe more because of this because the safety car
00:29:09isn't it's just coming first safety car is just going to come past the pits well you ride your luck
00:29:14don't you this here and mark this is absolutely amazing because um it was against audi last time by how they
00:29:20were picked up they lost around about a minute and a half they reckoned and right now there is
00:29:25somebody absolutely seething waiting by a red flag for this first safety car as it rumbles by us here
00:29:31we are busy in with the leader of gt1 now this may have actually come to them i don't know a little
00:29:38bit of a rueful look there uh from uh is it deportalis waiting to get back in i think it might be right
00:29:44lapierre's been released now but he's going to join the back of the first of the safety car train
00:29:48it's going to be interesting to see what is going to come of all of this and just a minute ago we
00:29:52saw those corner workers sweeping up shards and shards of carbon fiber and glass and just just a
00:29:58moment to give them a bit of thanks because they work very very hard around this track and i don't
00:30:02think people realize that basically everyone here they are professional marshals and they do work very
00:30:07very hard and they keep us running and they keep us safe on the track so just a big up to all of you
00:30:11guys out there thank you obviously that gearbox change they've done on this car hasn't quite
00:30:15worked maybe something else has uh trend has uh come up in the laps he's been out he's been out the
00:30:21five or six laps now but uh not looking good a lot of head shaking going on and that car stuck firmly
00:30:28in the pits well it's a real shame when any of the uh real competitive cars actually find themselves
00:30:34there but um they've had their issues big time and it's all back i wonder if it's all done there's no
00:30:39rush they're not working on it liz that's not a good sign well they are bringing it up so let's see
00:30:46yeah no they're putting it on the hijacks it looks like so that's something under the car that he's
00:30:50looking at um could be could be gearbox could be definitely who knows after 11 cars back out by the
00:30:56way emmanuel pierre uh he's running in 37th place though and for a p1 car it's not good news you know
00:31:03they've had a rough time they have had endless problems in and out of the pits not the way you
00:31:08want to be at leman 24 hours however they are still running and there's a good 10 or more cars that are
00:31:12not so i suppose at the moment they'll be thanking their stars that they are still running but certainly
00:31:17slightly disappointed to be at the bottom of that lmp one category again we've got cars caught in the pit
00:31:22lane now that guillermo is just going out now to join the back of the crew he was running in where
00:31:27were we he's third in p2 that's going to hurt him as well because he has got olivier pla coming up very
00:31:34quickly behind him just looking a long long way back and i can see the train of cars just through the
00:31:39lights of the ferris wheel here just making their way but it's still a a painfully a long long drive
00:31:46for them and i think they've probably got about another uh 20 or 30 seconds to wait before this
00:31:51second safety car and here they come uh actually comes through here it's impossible to tell you
00:31:55which cars have been picked up here because of the flaring lights we can see just about as much
00:31:59as you and we're here and one of the things to keep in mind is that it is a lot cooler tonight
00:32:05than we have been it's cooler than it was earlier on when we had a safety car so one of the big issues
00:32:09that's going to be here is we don't know how long the safety car will be i don't think it'll be very
00:32:13long but the tires are going to cool down a lot on all of these cars so that's going to become an
00:32:18issue we've got a huge clump of all sorts of different classes in together with cold tires
00:32:22so hopefully everybody's going to be able to get a bit of heat in there you can see them trying now
00:32:26you can't see on the screens the pit lane but there's a lot of light flashing going on down
00:32:30there very very upset drivers saying come on get that red flag in we've got to get back in
00:32:34i mean that has really hurt as we say the third place car in p2 and he's furious he's been flashing
00:32:40his lights the last couple of minutes well if he had a horn he'd be hitting it believe me uh because right
00:32:46now the second train has gone by and they're going to be plumb stuck behind them right red flag's been
00:32:52taken in for the pit lane out those cars go but morrow has been very badly hurt by that he's almost
00:32:57certainly going to lose third place in p2 as a result that's a real shame for the 35 car frank kitty
00:33:03was in that train we saw him uh so he's uh he's in a fine uh position as we speak goodness me it's uh all
00:33:12over the place i think you why on earth not have a wave by and just pick everybody up that's just
00:33:17isn't the way to do this race i'm sorry it is the biggest sports car race in the world possibly the
00:33:22biggest race in the world for a lot of people for me it certainly is and i just hate to see like i've
00:33:28said so many times the fate of people's race being determined on you know just where they randomly stick
00:33:34them in a pace car i don't think it's right i'm just wondering whether they're thinking is something to
00:33:38do with the fact that uh the uh uh the flag may actually change and the safety car might be called
00:33:44in rather quickly and so uh they just want to get the race back without having to have too much of a
00:33:49disjointed um uh stop uh as simple as that but uh i'm sure there is a good reason as well but one can
00:33:55only hope but why spoil other people's races in doing that exactly this is absolutely right and uh i'm
00:34:00sorry oh here comes down your cross name what's all our passes off us yeah exactly liz you're sacked
00:34:04sorry eurosport just looking down a pit lane olivier pla in uh the janetta uh is he going to get held
00:34:12by a red flag yes he is so the third safety car is going to be weighted here flagged way down he was
00:34:20uh he was kind of hoping uh that he could possibly get away with it there is a bit of a stiff breeze
00:34:24here all our flags are actually uh full square on the poles and as a result the red flag just looks
00:34:30like a red stick to the drivers because it's it's uh planing horizontally and so the flag man had to
00:34:36work very very hard shame you're not getting a picture of the flag man at the end of pit road as
00:34:41we speak what you did see you saw stephan muckers pit stop in the 007 uh lola aston martin he's now
00:34:47joined that queue by the red flag and again that car is in sixth place and it's going to hurt him because
00:34:52he at that moment was only uh what four seconds ahead of mark janet in the peugeot so that means
00:34:58that place has changed on the track already safety car's gone and uh we're racing again we're green
00:35:03flagged here you saw the lights were off and away they've gone so you're gonna have to forgive us
00:35:08because we're gonna have to wait just like you to find out who's where after that mess uh goodness only
00:35:15knows uh so we're about to find out uh on board with frank montagna in the two car this is our leader but
00:35:20look how busy it is up front and when you get trapped like this you're in all kinds of traffic
00:35:24it's all compressed don't forget and all classes have got a very uh you know the perfect right
00:35:30to battle for their own position on track so why on earth would they give you the wave by here uh and
00:35:35help you within your race they're busy doing their own thing and the two cars going to have to respect
00:35:40that frank montagna uh can see you can see what he's seeing right now and past the uh hand cook machine
00:35:46uh right now and uh just taking out i think uh uh my favorite viper greenland yeah that was the
00:35:52chrome car yeah the chrome risi car so uh oh yeah so as you say we just have to wait for the cars to
00:35:58all land having thrown them in there oh not again rebellion again these poor cars have such a hard run
00:36:05this is uh this is uh really christophe rebellion yes it's a watch company incident yeah but uh yes
00:36:13he was in 10th place that's a big impact liz i think that's got to be seeing cold tires taking the
00:36:20best of somebody or maybe a bit of a nudge uh maybe a bit of both uh i think i suspect that there's still
00:36:26a bit of uh gravel around the place as well just to help them out a bit um yes i think their luck has
00:36:31finally but i think you know when you do a restart like that and you're in all the traffic you know
00:36:36that things have changed a bit you know there could be debris you know the tires are cold so you do have
00:36:41to keep that in mind and most of the drivers will will come through the restart and be a bit sensible
00:36:45you know you want to go trust me everybody wants to go but you've got to keep in mind that you're piled
00:36:50in with the traffic and numeric there in the number six car that's the other oreca car the non-pergeot one
00:36:56andy came in and the guy stayed in it in fact hasn't he so he's being refilled that car is in 10th
00:37:00place just waiting to see what's happening at the head of the field our screens are still showing
00:37:04montani from lapierre and the two peugeots but we're pretty sure that lapierre will have lost the
00:37:09whole bundle of time it might be he just had a lapsed lead and has probably lost half a lap rather than
00:37:15a full lap but yeah but crucially it may well play into the hands of faster and bernard we can't tell you
00:37:19whether that's the case but they're certainly deeper into the course at the moment they're just coming out of
00:37:24sector three and going in sector two and going into three the car stopped is the 13th car at uh
00:37:30and unfortunately i'm just hoping that this doesn't cause any kind of safety issues body language slams
00:37:36the door he's going to walk away from the car you get 10 meters away from the car that's it you're then
00:37:40deemed to be out and look he knows he's not going anywhere end of that brick cars race they've had so
00:37:45much work on that vehicle this i think they may well have just timed themselves out of this one he's
00:37:48certainly having up and he's made the decision uh thank you they're just asking him how far away
00:37:54from the vehicle you do actually want to step uh and he said um well the full 50 yards please
00:38:00yeah i'm out of here they've not had a great runner they've not had a great week and actually jean
00:38:05christophe bouillon is a really good driver he's a fantastic driver many years with pescarolo and um you
00:38:11know a lot of great results so i just wonder what those cars have been like to drive he crashed that car first
00:38:16he did wednesday night remember he's done it again yeah it's not great no no not great at all it's
00:38:25a busy night and it's going to get busier except for these boys who are in pack-up mode by the looks of
00:38:30things right now what's happened nick lapierre who we saw held up at the pit lane uh exit he has not
00:38:38lost second place liz but he has lost a lap he was one lap ahead of marcel faster that's now come down
00:38:45to 79 seconds yeah no at least we've not seen complete disaster up in the front however it could
00:38:51have fallen nicely into audi's hands and i don't think it's completely gone that way they were
00:38:55probably hoping it would but certainly it's not shaking things up quite as much as it did through
00:38:59that first safety car no but they are on the same lap as the second place car which puts in a tremendous
00:39:04pressure now on montagna he's just a lap ahead don't forget uh of uh both his teammates in the four car
00:39:11and then fasla and bernard in the owdies with alan mcnish uh just two laps further behind
00:39:18and you've got to have the belief that this is a long game uh we certainly know they have local
00:39:22yellows flash flags flying here no overtaking at this point we're going to have to take our leave from
00:39:27eurosport too and we're heading back to uh europe international as far as we can gather because
00:39:32well we've been told just like you've been told that we're 24 hours uninterrupted save the
00:39:36the fact you've got to press the odd button or two just to keep in touch with us well the safety
00:39:40car may have gone but the racing is still just as compressed here it's busy busy stuff in the middle
00:39:46of that light ball there are an awful lot of cars as you can see uh we will take our leave and transfer
00:39:51the eurosport international and maybe see you a lot of uh busy activity down there um it's ollie jarvis in
00:40:01the uh 15 car and he's just uh pitted off ninth place uh samsonite philip p tim 70 uh sophie moog
00:40:09andy in coventry and uh gabby and a whole load of others too i'm so sorry i don't know where we went
00:40:16uh we thought we were alive we were still belting away down here uh but we'll do our best to resume
00:40:23now that we are back and uh and keep you happy um we're certainly hopefully keep your fingers crossed
00:40:29with it uh not going to be leaving again so there we go uninterrupted from now on hopefully but uh sorry
00:40:34for the hiatus uh i know you were often upset for a little while uh somewhere in britain uh as far as i
00:40:41know the asia pacific region have been uh enjoying it from uh right the way through but uh there you go
00:40:46i'm only guessing because we're slightly in the dark so are we entirely on course here uh 14 minutes
00:40:52and 18 let's do that again shall we 14 hours 18 minutes and 28 seconds it's a long long time to go
00:41:00we're not even halfway can you believe it it feels like we have just raced for a year and for peugeot
00:41:05it feels like it's been a lifetime uh because they are looking behind them at the moment uh two of their
00:41:10cars have been in trouble one of them is really battling it back one of them is out the three cars gone
00:41:15the one car in the hands of marc janet is driving so unbelievably out there uh considering his fuel
00:41:22loading as well he's uh come in and he is attacking alan mcnish who's out in front of him as we speak
00:41:27sarazan lapierre are in positions one and two uh sarazan is on a lap ahead but crucially
00:41:34lapierre and then the audis of bernard and fassler are on the next lap and uh one behind them is
00:41:40alan mcnish perjo starting to look over the shoulder they're looking a little bit nervous
00:41:44down there they're looking a little bit tense others well they've got more serious problems
00:41:48as you can see well i think that now that sarazan's just gotten in the car we might see some pretty
00:41:53amazing times from him as well because he's going to want to pull away in that lead and get as far
00:41:57ahead as far ahead as he can sorry it's getting a little bit late i'm having issues speaking english
00:42:02yeah but um but yeah no i do think we might start seeing something magic from him because
00:42:10these are the sort of conditions he likes and he's going to want to pull that lead ahead as much as
00:42:14he can and make some room nice to see emmanuel pierre come back out here he's a fantastic star of
00:42:20le mans unfortunately he has been saddled with uh what has been a whole load of ill fortune here
00:42:26um it's a terrific outfit this but uh sadly mark they've had a really challenging time and they're
00:42:32back out they have floor issues they've had uh oil uh problems and the back end is coming back off so
00:42:37they haven't even made it back to the course just yet i'm sure their uh their their own clock is also
00:42:43ticking out yeah i mean this car really flattered to deceive at sebring didn't it we saw manually
00:42:47pyro mixing it with the peugeos in the uh first couple of hours at sebring he actually split them all
00:42:52didn't it it was so quick around there but the car hasn't proved reliable it's not got the durability
00:42:58you need for sebring all the mom that's the big problem it's blindingly quick but it's not yet
00:43:04reliable i think they were a little bit worried about this when they came to them i know it's it's
00:43:08it's a big dream for paul drayson to be here in an lmp1 car and to have started the mall in that front
00:43:14class so i was very pleased for him that he got to do the start it's it's it's an awesome experience but
00:43:18i'm sad for them now because it's a beautiful car and i i wanted to see them come out and just
00:43:23storm their way through but i know it was a worry for everyone i know emmanuelle said they've been
00:43:27working hard to make the car comfortable to drive for everyone it was a little bit sketchy in practice
00:43:32and you know he was doing his best to keep that under control but certainly he's loved driving this
00:43:36car and being a part of this team and being back in sports car racing and pushing hard at le mans and
00:43:41i just hope they get it going again so he can get out there with a smile on his face of course he's had
00:43:44more time to do it since his government disappeared from under him and lord drayson who was at one time
00:43:50the uh minister for business under gordon brown's government that's all changed now there is a view
00:43:55to follow british politics will know that and paul can now concentrate on what he loves doing but let's
00:44:01just hope this is going to come better as the season goes on five times winner of the money really
00:44:06pierre it almost gets forgotten doesn't it it's such a tremendous record and um he's been part of
00:44:12some changes uh up top but he's find himself uh still within lmp1 albeit with uh the drayson outfit
00:44:19and they've had a lousy time also it's not been a blessed run either for ford no it hasn't this has
00:44:26been a tough run for them there were three forwards that came here and only one remains at the moment
00:44:31and only just it's hanging on by a thread after losing its rear wing after contact with the prototype
00:44:36we're here yeah the bmw have had their issues as well uh they came here expecting a lot lot was
00:44:41expected of them as well some people complaining that touring cars really should be part of uh
00:44:47endurance racing and i think they possibly got caught out as well uh liz was talking a little bit
00:44:51early on about the performance levels that uh suddenly they're being met with out there it certainly
00:44:56seemed to be an issue with the art car a little bit earlier on that's the jeff coombs design machine
00:45:02don't be seeing any more of that it's uh one of our uh black lines of doom on the place bmw's response
00:45:09to those criticisms are the touring cars have four doors our car only has two doors it's a g2 car
00:45:16oh there you are you can't argue that anyway yes point taken though carlton yeah is there a place
00:45:23for these cars we've seen how spectacular they are in the nurburgring 24 hours in fact pedro lami
00:45:28led the team to victory his uh i think his fifth win at the nurburgring and a car very very similar
00:45:33to this one some of the bmw motorsport colors we lost the coons car the art car earlier in the
00:45:39evening as we remember andy prio struggling against all odds to get that car to the finish
00:45:44of le mans but it wasn't to be after four hours the car was out after so so many problems but of course
00:45:50at the nurburgring they ran as one of the faster cars over there and it would have been a very very
00:45:54different experience i mean a huge number of cars started that race an incredible racetrack and a
00:45:59very challenging race no doubt but certainly a different experience from their angle having
00:46:03been the quickest cars there and coming here being one of the slowest actually so not not slow from the
00:46:08drivers by any standpoint whatsoever but truly they are in the slowest class so it's a whole different
00:46:13ball game and a completely different speed speed lead is relative isn't it i mean the bmw driver going
00:46:20flat out is going just as fast as the peugeot driver going flat out absolutely within what he's
00:46:26driving sometimes the gt drivers are pushing that much harder actually because they don't have the
00:46:30downforce that an lmp driver has they don't have all those sort of mechanical things helping them
00:46:35out they've got a big old rolling gt car that's sometimes that much harder to drive they're throwing
00:46:40them around they're really pushing them hard so it's just as difficult to drive them on slower classes
00:46:45peter thorpe just coming in as we look at the fine work being done on the corvette here
00:46:50uh saying how many different tire compounds are available to the teams it's a good question
00:46:55actually because uh this we've heard about soft compounds soft soft compounds hard intermediate
00:47:00hard hard tires how many i don't actually know if there's a specific number i know a lot of it's just
00:47:06dependent on the actual tire manufacturer and who the team is and all that sort of thing because
00:47:12obviously we have special tires special michelins for audi that are manufactured with audi and that
00:47:17sort of thing certainly in most of the tracks i've done we've had a softer medium and a hard we've not
00:47:21really had a real big difference around that and then a few different compounds of wet tire and usually
00:47:26an intermediate but generally speaking you've got that sort of range you can choose between and
00:47:31crucially some of the compounds are actually thought to be better by some manufacturers uh than others
00:47:35uh for instance intermediates is a hankuk speciality so if it gets a bit drizzly uh they may well start
00:47:42absolutely shining yeah and uh certainly at le mans most we we always used to run a hard compound
00:47:48whenever i raced here i think most teams would be running a medium too hard because it really is you
00:47:53know a track that doesn't have a huge amount of tire wear and you do want to triple or quad stent them as
00:47:57much as you can back with a cup of tea in hand says uh angry meerkat he said and uh just think the
00:48:05racing car is the most gorgeous thing out there um well done by the way and uh he's uh he's a happy
00:48:11boy and just uh glad to see yeah glad to see him here at the very least and look at this uh it's starting
00:48:18to take its toll on those who have a very familiar look unless he hasn't moved for these pictures i don't
00:48:24think some of them have moved for an awful long time uh if they don't move um it's either all over
00:48:28or they're doing rather well one can only imagine uh the matmut outfit as well they've uh they've had
00:48:33a uh a mixed run mark yes they have indeed haven't they uh it's uh gradually coming back to them there
00:48:40just while we're looking at talking about matt with that just looking down into the pits and we just saw
00:48:44the 24 car the uh oak racing pestorolo that had that front wheel ripped off somehow they have got that
00:48:50car back into the race richard hein has just taken it over from jean-francois yvonne and it's just gone
00:48:56back on track now in 33rd place having beat 16. oh well that's fantastic i mean that's just going to
00:49:01show what what hard work these teams put in and they would have been ready for every eventuality as best
00:49:06they can and sometimes you just get lucky they've lost 13 laps but at least there's two pescarolos back in
00:49:12the race yeah well we said it's mixed time by matt mutter they're running second in the four car which is
00:49:16tremendous but uh the oracle map but uh they're a mixed team i always think it's a bit difficult
00:49:20where you kind of uh spread your skills across two different types of vehicles uh they despite the
00:49:26fact they're still in the nmp one class uh running in 10th place after a few issues down there and
00:49:32crucially eight laps off the lead so the seven car uh bridge change here alan mcnish is in i presume he's
00:49:38staying in as well interesting as well we actually said that they had a very specific change order
00:49:53and they went through that we're going to take ourselves a brief commercial break and we'll be
00:50:08back in just a few minutes uh frontal issues we uh thought suspension but they've uh immediately
00:50:18gone to the back end here obviously a lot of issues on the 39 car uh that will tell us is on board here
00:50:24now this is likely to promote uh the gt car of uh beretta and the corvette into the top 20 here and
00:50:34that is good news for them but the battle that was raging at the top of gt2 sadly has uh has come
00:50:39almost to a close um it's uh a lap settling is separating now once the ferrari got into bother
00:50:46there's a couple of corvettes on top that uh patrick pia uh is leading the porsche charge
00:50:51yeah we've got one of the lola technicians actually is uh is in there working on that car
00:50:55as well so it makes me wonder if it's something a little bit more uh serious and internal uh well it
00:51:01certainly didn't look like a quick fix there's nobody uh being too busy out there thanks for all of
00:51:05you by the way who've been in on the website uh we're hoping uh we may well have uh well obviously
00:51:10you've got your night thread coming up and uh you're up all night club i know some of you are very
00:51:14keen on that the number one car here is basically uh making its way in mark jenna who's been posting
00:51:19some fantastic signs i think the best time of the night so far his quickest was what a 3 20.
00:51:24uh 319. did he get underneath it i missed that no no i don't believe so no no no we've been watching
00:51:31that uh so pace at the moment is around 3 23 3 24 that seems to have settled down at the moment but
00:51:37just occasionally someone like jenna or sarah's i'm gonna pop a quick one in just to remind everyone
00:51:42who they are and where they are just to keep everyone guessing keep your way yeah terrific so
00:51:47he's uh in his box at the moment uh purchase one and two with the area bernard and fastler in uh
00:51:52second and uh in third i guess i should say mark jenna pitting off that fifth spot at the moment
00:51:58uh but he's on 157 uh laps as opposed to 160 for our lead car um it's still in the hands of peugeot
00:52:06but it's by no means certain here they're just starting to look a bit fragile off mood and uh and
00:52:12in the other departments as well mark yes perjot mechanic mechanic really attacking the car there
00:52:17it tried to eat him he got out and he jumped on it i think he won yeah faces like thunder and uh when
00:52:25when you uh when you think that they're actually in peas one and two here with jenna posting some
00:52:29fantastic times quickest on the night uh as bernard sent in an absolute steamer of a 323 here uh that
00:52:37is a full five seconds quicker than sarazan who's uh not a slow man who's on course at the moment in
00:52:43the two car it's impressive that is very impressive and timo has just put in a new fast sector time
00:52:48for that car as well the first sector is even quicker so he's really pushing through the s's
00:52:54so this is our anthony and davidson on board the number one cars we go out and uh he rejoins the
00:52:59fray in fifth place just ahead of the audi of tom christensen uh maybe it's not even that because it was
00:53:0628 seconds let's see how that pans out 26 cars running slow mark and uh that's bad bad news as well
00:53:13yeah they've been uh deep in trouble and uh but they were hoping to get a climb back they are in uh
00:53:20in second place in class don't forget uh running in 13th place and it's just suddenly gone back uh bad
00:53:26for uh hpd uh they haven't been in trouble they've been running rather well but it's starting to come to
00:53:31now you you're you've got so much luck out there it's almost like an egg time at the sands have
00:53:36actually run against them here it's been in the hands of franketti and it is slow in the second
00:53:41place in lmp2 at the moment uh dan watts is going to be on his lonesome if uh moreau can pick himself
00:53:47up here he's got a three lap deficit that's how dominant the hd hpds have gone they've been so so
00:53:53adept haven't they well in fact danny will have a full lap lead if uh the frank kitty loses a lot more
00:53:59time and of course that will help nick laventus when he takes the car over again he's going to
00:54:02have quite a big buffer in his favor it will they will be absolutely thrilled in the strata racing
00:54:08pit right now that something we don't know we haven't seen it on the track yet but something
00:54:11seems to have slowed the high croft car with frankie in it and i think what we're seeing what's been
00:54:16dominant is the hpd combination with that old acura body that that those cars have because there is an
00:54:22hpd as well in the mike newton car which is a few cars back the ksm 39 machine is in trouble and what
00:54:29it's done is it has helped to promote two gt cars uh gt2 cars uh both of the corvettes are now in the
00:54:36top 20 19 and 20 overall they're the class leaders and uh this is uh i'm hoping we can have a brief chat
00:54:43but we hope to catch up with him in just a few moments time uh right now we're downstairs with
00:54:51the 25 car i don't think you're gonna hear from alan because that was bruce jones of course of radio
00:54:55le mans interviewing him and uh i hope just sebastian will catch up yeah just put him out of the side of
00:55:01my eye here then is the what is now the fourth place car mike newton still on board the ray malik
00:55:08lola hpd just talking about the hpd car there uh just to remind you as well the the car that's
00:55:14leading that class danny watts car that was adrian fernandez uh lms car last year uh is it identical
00:55:22spec to the highcroft car well when i spoke to some of the guys working at highcroft they did say they
00:55:27felt it was they said um because i said oh i heard there were some differences they said no we've been
00:55:31told they're absolutely identical this engine has just been an absolute pearl hasn't it yes and already
00:55:38we've been told already that there is a new engine coming from hpd next there'll be turbo charge
00:55:44won't it the v6 turbo which will still meet regulations with gt2 yep and the and it's actually
00:55:50an ex-indy car oh is this a new accident or is this the old one no that's the old accident again yeah
00:55:54yeah no the hpd is actually an ex-indy car engine so it's very interesting that it's come in and been
00:55:59so strong i think what they're showing us there was just how that car came into the pit site went out
00:56:03again after this accident and uh they repaired it and it's got back out that's the 13 car
00:56:08john christophe bouillon getting off at the restart on cold tires you could never ever be
00:56:14safe can you at these three starts it's hard to know exactly what happened there we couldn't really
00:56:18see the whole accident but it could have been that i mean to be honest jean christophe he would
00:56:23know how to deal with the restart he's certainly had enough experience so it makes me wonder if
00:56:27maybe something else happened but it's very hard for us to tell here yeah we're just trying to find
00:56:31uh one of you's been uh uh on our message board saying one of us up to the uh 60 guard philip p we're
00:56:37still trying to find out uh it's still in the garage unfortunately but um it was going so well
00:56:43it's still running third in class despite the fact it's uh 35 on course so we're just uh trying to uh
00:56:49find out exactly what the issue is it it had impact with the prototype i i definitely know that for a
00:56:55fact um and lost the rear wing to the pits but i do believe they are still working on it yeah there
00:56:59is it's sort of it's more serious than that sheepish cap in hand going oops so i think perhaps it was
00:57:05his fault they have changed the whole back end on that car 64 then this is the lead gt2 car
00:57:12ollie beretta bringing that car in to uh hand over is he handing over he's staying on board they're not
00:57:17taking tires on either at the moment just feel this is really corvette rolex smooth isn't it it's
00:57:22amazing uh they are celebrating 50 years at uh of competition and um they've been doing it in some
00:57:29style they've uh they've had some of uh old uh peddlers uh uh back here uh and uh it's been an
00:57:37absolute pleasure actually to see their joy and and the fact that the program goes on and uh that gt will
00:57:42be graced by corvettes for an awful long time to come despite the fact that gt1 is coming to a
00:57:47close they're going nowhere and right now they hope we say that but right now they're leading the class
00:57:52in a superb form and we finally discovered by the way what the incredible noise we've been hearing
00:57:58several times a day is uh it's a huge horn bellowing out over levon it turns out it is a ship's foghorn
00:58:04powered by compressed air which corvette have put above their pit really asked why they said because
00:58:10there's nothing in the ranks to say we can't so there we have that is fantastic we like that i hope
00:58:16everyone was tuned into yours for them to hear that that is awesome go on the american team
00:58:24so guys uh we're just about to hand over uh for the the late shift it'll be uh martin haven
00:58:30jeremy shaw and neville hay and chris parsons uh taking you the dream team the dream team absolutely
00:58:35uh so i uh we will uh try and marshal them towards uh the website so you can ask them a few questions
00:58:41if you wish your sport.co.uk uh click the message boards scroll down to motorsports and if you click
00:58:47them all and the topic area that's uh the thread uh it's new exclamation mark eurosports 2010 le mans live
00:58:54so uh i'm sure you'll be uh very happy in their company time for us to take our break as the nine car
00:59:04gets back out on course the lead audi is uh out and racing and holds station in a provisional podium
00:59:12position of third as we speak hello welcome back to le mans just a moment or two ago onboard shots
00:59:25during the middle of the night here from the audi just picking its way through traffic as audi currently
00:59:33line third fourth and fifth with peugeot first second and six positions and you're looking here at the
00:59:42lmp class lmp2 class leading battle marino franchiti leaving after service in the highcroft
00:59:50acura joe bradley of rady le mans there getting in shot and danny watts still leading the class for the
00:59:57striker team and again much to the surprise of uh the assembled masses the chance
