00:00:00Only true British car manufacturers left.
00:00:02Yes, I'm not sure about that, but as far as I'm concerned, I want Lola to continue and to prosper.
00:00:09And of course, we do a lot of other things, as you see on our website.
00:00:13We couldn't live on motor racing alone.
00:00:16Well, it's still the best car that I've ever driven, I can confidently say.
00:00:20Of course, you drove with John Field then.
00:00:23I did, yeah. I drove here twice in the car, so I had a wonderful time.
00:00:27It was a fantastic car, I miss it a lot.
00:00:29So, I hope to be in another one soon.
00:00:31And just to remind everybody, there's, of course, one Sebring.
00:00:33Sebring 12 hours in P2 in your car soon.
00:00:36Fantastic.
00:00:36Yeah.
00:00:37And really well done.
00:00:39And you're looking fit. Why aren't you in a car now?
00:00:42Oh, I can't really answer that, I suppose, because I'd like to be in one.
00:00:46Hang on, who's asking the question?
00:00:49Hopefully soon, hopefully soon.
00:00:50Hopefully in one of yours.
00:00:51Another problem here, it's not a Lola, fortunately.
00:00:53Someone's pulling off the headlights.
00:00:56It's the ARCH car again.
00:00:58And if it wasn't for bad luck, they'd have no luck at all.
00:01:01Andy Prio on board again.
00:01:03This car's had so much drama today.
00:01:05He got unwittingly caught up in the Tom Christensen off because he had his own problems.
00:01:10Perhaps the colour's not the right colour for the car, Martin.
00:01:13It's a nice colour.
00:01:15I like it.
00:01:15But it's not very lucky today.
00:01:19It's pulled off properly this time, so this is not looking very good.
00:01:22Oh, maybe not.
00:01:23It looks like he suddenly found something.
00:01:26He's shaking it, isn't he?
00:01:27Oh.
00:01:28Don't know what he's doing, actually.
00:01:31This car has had so many problems today, though.
00:01:33It's really been unfortunate.
00:01:35Anyway, Martin, you're here tomorrow, aren't you?
00:01:37I am.
00:01:37We'd love to get you back probably during the day tomorrow to see the progress of your petrol projectiles.
00:01:44That's the best way to do it.
00:01:45And I wish you all the luck this year.
00:01:46And again, congratulations on the 50 years of Lola.
00:01:49Thank you, Mark.
00:01:49Thank you very much.
00:01:50Great to see you.
00:01:53Well, Andy Prio then, not enjoying his first Le Mans at all, I don't think.
00:01:58He's been in endurance racing doing the VLM series this year.
00:02:01They've been doing a lot of destruction testing of the BMWs in the 24 hours.
00:02:06But here at Le Mans, it's just not the car to be in.
00:02:09Yeah, the construction testing seems to go on.
00:02:13Oh, hello.
00:02:14Hello.
00:02:14The story is not told.
00:02:16Let that be certain.
00:02:18My goodness.
00:02:19You can't count on anything, can you?
00:02:22It's a Matmut, but it's the Orica AIM.
00:02:24And so, finally, their luck seems to have run out as well.
00:02:28Straight line straight into the tyres here.
00:02:30It seems okay.
00:02:31He'll get it back.
00:02:32But more damage.
00:02:33The attrition rate's going up here as we start to head towards dusk.
00:02:36And you do get just a little bit of dampness started to settle here.
00:02:40Evening dew.
00:02:41And watch this.
00:02:41Yeah, that's Andy Merrick.
00:02:43Unfortunately running out of talent down at Arnage, isn't it?
00:02:46So easily done, though, Liz.
00:02:47Oh, Arnage, such a tricky corner.
00:02:49It takes so many cars in every single race.
00:02:51It is very, very polished, even in the dry.
00:02:54And the first time I ever walked around this track with a professional driver, they said,
00:02:58do not ever take Arnage for granted.
00:03:00You must not break too late here.
00:03:02And I have to say, every year it catches someone out.
00:03:05And every time I drive into that corner, I think, don't be a hero.
00:03:08Because it catches you out like you wouldn't believe.
00:03:11Well, four or five so far this weekend.
00:03:13Yes.
00:03:13So many in the warm-up.
00:03:14Now, will the team bring him in?
00:03:17Or does it look soft enough to let him continue?
00:03:19I think because it's a prototype car, I think they'll bring him in.
00:03:22Because he's probably had some damage to that front splitter.
00:03:25And that's, you know, when you're messing with aero and that sort of thing.
00:03:28We're at Le Mans.
00:03:29We're not far into Le Mans.
00:03:30So he needs to come in and get it looked at.
00:03:32If we were half an hour from the end of the race, maybe not.
00:03:34Exactly.
00:03:35There's so much technology going on here.
00:03:38And he's clearly not delighted.
00:03:39I imagine that little shimmy at the back end there was just purely aggression, adrenaline,
00:03:45and just, quite frankly, just very annoyed with himself.
00:03:49He brings it in.
00:03:50Yes, they'll check everything over.
00:03:51They've got to do it, as Liz quite rightly points out.
00:03:53These are such high-tech machines.
00:03:56Things can be easily broken.
00:03:58And you've just got to be careful.
00:03:59Well, even of photographers in there.
00:04:01We saw that earlier on.
00:04:02One of the wing mirrors was dislodged from one of the vehicles with somebody just getting too close.
00:04:06So it proves just how easy it is to remodel these.
00:04:10They're going to get in for a driver change.
00:04:11Maybe it was part of, obviously not the incident part of their plan,
00:04:15but they were near enough to their regular change anyway.
00:04:19Bring it in, check it over, get the change made,
00:04:21so you don't have to come back again to go through the whole rigmarole once more.
00:04:25Well, what they would normally do, regardless,
00:04:27is they'd bring the car and they'd fuel it up,
00:04:29and they'd do their plan.
00:04:30They'd be on the radio to the driver on his way in,
00:04:33and he's probably saying, look, the car feels not too bad.
00:04:36But they'll say, right, we're going to do everything to plan,
00:04:38get it all done, and then we'll look the car over.
00:04:40So I'm guessing that's what we're seeing here.
00:04:42I mean, even when we've seen cars with big damage,
00:04:44usually they fuel the car first, then they put it on the wheelies,
00:04:46and they pull it in.
00:04:47And that is a pretty standard program for most teams.
00:04:50Thanks for everyone who's been on to the website.
00:04:53It's a real pleasure to have your company.
00:04:55It's eurosport.co.uk.
00:04:58You then click on the message boards where Mark Cole will be fishing for you
00:05:02in just a few moments' time.
00:05:04If you scroll down to the motorsports section and click on Le Mans,
00:05:09then our thread or topic area is new exclamation mark,
00:05:14Eurosport 2010, Le Mans Live.
00:05:16And we're very pleased to have you live throughout.
00:05:20Alongside me here is Liz Halliday and Mark Cole.
00:05:23And we will be with you for around about another half an hour
00:05:27when we'll be handing over to Jeremy Short along with Martin Haven.
00:05:32And later on this evening you'll have the joys of Neville Hay
00:05:35and Chris Parsons as well.
00:05:37And don't forget we've got Johnny Molan and Stuart Hall as well here.
00:05:43Mark.
00:05:43We've got a couple of retirements just to confirm.
00:05:45The 29 racing Vox Lola Judd now definitely out.
00:05:49Suspension element pulled out of the tub.
00:05:52There we are.
00:05:53Carol M.
00:05:54Just answering your earlier question again, which Liz also answered.
00:05:58We've also lost the...
00:06:00Not the Rebellion car.
00:06:02There's another one gone out there.
00:06:03That is the...
00:06:04I can't see it now.
00:06:05Well, we've of course lost the 61 car.
00:06:07Lizards have been in radiator trouble after a trap through the gravel from Darren Law.
00:06:11Team replaced the right radiator and front under tray,
00:06:13but they're back in the garage getting oil pressure and water pressure problems.
00:06:17So, as far as we know, they're still in the garage at the moment.
00:06:20I was just looking for the Martin Haven black marker of doom to actually put through some...
00:06:25No, that's not it.
00:06:26Mark Gold's got it.
00:06:28How funny we have.
00:06:29We keep a tally of cars that sadly are no longer part of it.
00:06:34And just a very brief look up there.
00:06:37It's even marked the marker of doom.
00:06:39It is the marker of doom, of course.
00:06:41Of course.
00:06:43Oh, dear.
00:06:43And I fear that we may well be scribing it through this vehicle in not too long at all.
00:06:51Andy Priot as well.
00:06:52As you said, Mark, if you didn't have no luck, you'd have no luck at all.
00:06:55It's just been a nightmare for him.
00:06:57And, Liz, you were kind of explaining as well that maybe part of the trouble is
00:07:01he's just not used to being in this speed of field.
00:07:05I know he did the Nürburgring, but this is kind of another step up, isn't it?
00:07:08Well, I think we were referring that to maybe the incident that he had with the Audi.
00:07:12And earlier on, we saw him nearly clip a Persia that was passing him as well.
00:07:16I don't think that has to do with the problems they've had with the car,
00:07:18but certainly the incidents they've had, I think, very possibly,
00:07:22is because he's not had this speed of cars passing him.
00:07:25When he raced at the Nürburgring 24 hours, he was one of the quickest cars there.
00:07:29Certainly here, they're the slowest class here.
00:07:30And the closing speed of the Persias and the Audis and the LMP1 cars is just incredible.
00:07:36It is immense.
00:07:36And, you know, having raced in all the classes in sports car racing,
00:07:40it really does throw you when you first get out there in a slow car
00:07:43and you think, my God, they're there already.
00:07:45You see them in your mirrors and suddenly it's there.
00:07:47And it does take a bit of getting used to.
00:07:49I wonder as well if you come from a series where a little bit of contact,
00:07:52you know, rubbing his racing and all that is all part of the game.
00:07:55And you think, well, you know, I'm just going to backseat this part of the track
00:07:58and won't betide anyone who doesn't agree with him.
00:08:00He's a wonderful bloke, Andy Prio, by the way.
00:08:02He is.
00:08:02We know a lot about him.
00:08:04Top professional as well.
00:08:05Yeah, absolutely superb.
00:08:06He couldn't hope to spend an evening with a nicer chap.
00:08:09But he's had his worries today.
00:08:11That car becomes an official retirement, of course, then,
00:08:13because as soon as the driver goes more than 50 metres away from the car,
00:08:16that is kaput.
00:08:17Another retirement, the Norma, the Pegasus Racing Norma of Julian's show.
00:08:21It's now confirmed the transmission damage after its accident
00:08:24with the Spiker and the Audi has put that car.
00:08:27Great shame.
00:08:28That is a shame.
00:08:28I really, really wanted to see that.
00:08:30They were here, I think, partly because they had the wisdom
00:08:32to choose a French chassis manufacturer.
00:08:35And it's all over.
00:08:36It's a very good chassis.
00:08:37It comes out of the V2V series.
00:08:39I haven't been here since 2005.
00:08:40So, unfortunately, that race is over for this year.
00:08:43I think we will see that car back again, though,
00:08:45because they've done very little.
00:08:46They've barely had the car out.
00:08:48I think they only got the car in May or something.
00:08:50They've not had the car long.
00:08:51So, I think, give that car a year,
00:08:52and it could be a very competitive, proper vehicle.
00:08:55Yeah, they ran their radical, of course,
00:08:56in the first two LMS races
00:08:57because they wanted to get the Norma completed.
00:09:00So, there we have it.
00:09:01And in are starting to come some of our leaders here.
00:09:05It's the one car, indeed,
00:09:07and Alexander Wurtz pitting off the lead refueled.
00:09:10Don't know if we've got a driver change going on as well.
00:09:12We're going to take ourselves a break.
00:09:14We'll keep you informed with exactly what's happened.
00:09:17And don't forget that website,
00:09:18because while we're on the break,
00:09:19Mark's going to have a quick rustle around.
00:09:22It's eurosport.co.uk.
00:09:24Click on the message board.
00:09:25Scroll down to Landersports.
00:09:27Click Le Mans.
00:09:28It's all a bit complicated, I know,
00:09:29but you'll find the thread.
00:09:30It's the topic area.
00:09:32It's new, exclamation mark,
00:09:34Eurosport 2010 Le Mans Live.
00:09:35The reason we call it new
00:09:36is that an awful lot of you have written in
00:09:39and were mistaking the moto,
00:09:41the bike 24-hour race,
00:09:43which we did in April.
00:09:44So, yes, it's new, exclamation mark,
00:09:47Eurosport 2010 Le Mans Live.
00:09:49And that was a very, very quick stop.
00:09:53Very, very well marshaled they are.
00:09:56And we have Bert and Minassian,
00:09:58one and two for Peugeot at the moment
00:10:00with Olivier Fennesse in P3 just for now,
00:10:03also from the same mark.
00:10:04We'll be back in a moment.
00:10:08Welcome back.
00:10:09It seems to go from bad to worse,
00:10:11unless you fancy riding in a bouncy castle.
00:10:14For the 13 car,
00:10:15the Revlon racing machine has been all over the place.
00:10:18We're not now sure whether it's something
00:10:20more serious like a steering issue
00:10:22because, once again,
00:10:23they have hit the kerbs in the chicanes
00:10:25and it is not looking a comfortable ride
00:10:29for the 13 car at the moment.
00:10:31It's Belici who's on board
00:10:33and although he's now picking his way through traffic,
00:10:36it wasn't a traffic issue.
00:10:37He just seemed to lose it all on his lonesome out there.
00:10:40Mark Cole, we've got a guest from Porsche.
00:10:41Yes, we have from Porsche Motorsport,
00:10:43Dr. Daniel Iverson,
00:10:44who is responsible for the hybrid systems
00:10:46they're using in the Porsche 997s now.
00:10:49Of course, we're at Le Mans 24 hours,
00:10:51but if we go back a couple of weeks,
00:10:52Nürburgring 24 hours,
00:10:54and you nearly won this race with your hybrid.
00:10:56It's so exciting, eh?
00:10:57Yeah, it is,
00:10:58but we don't won it,
00:11:00so we are very disappointed.
00:11:03But overall,
00:11:04the show was very good
00:11:05and also the hybrid system works perfect
00:11:08and we got lots of power,
00:11:10additional power by recuperation
00:11:12and I think,
00:11:14yeah,
00:11:15the system is very neat
00:11:16and the disappointing thing is
00:11:20that after eight hours on P1,
00:11:25we got to travel at the combustion engine
00:11:28and the game was over.
00:11:29Ah, so,
00:11:30the hybrid system, I understand,
00:11:32is being developed by Williams for you,
00:11:33by Williams Grand Prix?
00:11:35No, that's not really the truth
00:11:38because we got the flywheel system,
00:11:42the energy storage system from Williams
00:11:44and they developed it to our needs.
00:11:49It's a Formula One system,
00:11:51they got 60 kilowatts power
00:11:55and for our race car,
00:11:58we need 120 kilowatts
00:12:01and therefore they redesigned it
00:12:03and used the same concept
00:12:05but it is a totally new design for us.
00:12:08So, I guess the reason you're here
00:12:09at Le Mans this weekend
00:12:10is because next year
00:12:11these systems will be permitted
00:12:13in the new Le Mans regulations
00:12:15and you must be looking
00:12:17very interestingly at this.
00:12:19Yes,
00:12:20we are very interested
00:12:23in this new technology
00:12:25and also for the regular law
00:12:28but today we only want to show our car
00:12:32and we were invited by the ACO
00:12:36and we are very happy to show the car
00:12:39and yes,
00:12:42perhaps for the future
00:12:43we can think about new activities
00:12:45but for the near future
00:12:49we will do some more software development.
00:12:52The hardware development is done,
00:12:55works very properly.
00:12:56We have shown it at the Neurogring
00:12:58so the reliability is excellent
00:13:01and for software function
00:13:04we have much more to do for the future.
00:13:08Well, there you have it.
00:13:09Thanks for Porsche to visit us
00:13:11and talk about the future.
00:13:12It certainly bodes very, very well
00:13:14and getting hybrid technology
00:13:16into competitive motorsport
00:13:18is exactly the way forward
00:13:19and all sorts of different motorsports regulations
00:13:23and indeed championships
00:13:24you'll be seeing an awful lot more
00:13:26of that sort of thing there.
00:13:28So, just to tell you
00:13:29the 13 car has had to come in.
00:13:30It's been bounced just about everywhere
00:13:32and they have brought it back
00:13:34and into the garage
00:13:35and I'm just hoping
00:13:37that this isn't yet another termination here
00:13:40because we've had so many vehicles
00:13:43be bitten today.
00:13:44And what that means
00:13:45is that Pierre-Rag
00:13:46and the 008 Lowland Stavartin
00:13:50has actually gone into the top 10
00:13:51or will do very, very shortly.
00:13:53Yes, indeed.
00:13:55Well, just one final question for you, Daniel.
00:13:57The Le Mans regulations read
00:13:59as if this presents the possibility
00:14:02of four-wheel drive on some cars.
00:14:04Yes, we are very happy for that.
00:14:06Now, I was press officer for Rothmans Porsche in the 80s.
00:14:10You had the 959, of course, which ran here.
00:14:12So, that car was very close to me as well.
00:14:15But this is obviously something
00:14:16that is very interesting for you.
00:14:18Yeah, but if you keep in mind,
00:14:21you get lots of brake energy
00:14:23at the front axle
00:14:24and you have to recuperate it
00:14:26on the front axle.
00:14:27Yeah.
00:14:27Oh, when you have your combustion engine
00:14:29at the rear axle,
00:14:30you have additional weight
00:14:33for the whole system,
00:14:34additional torque.
00:14:35and if you use it at the rear axle
00:14:37where you have enough torque
00:14:39and enough weight,
00:14:41then you have to choose the front axle.
00:14:43Ah, so, four-wheel drive Porsches.
00:14:45Remember this, guys,
00:14:46at Le Mans next year.
00:14:47This is possible.
00:14:47Daniel, thank you very much
00:14:48for coming to see us.
00:14:50And your time.
00:14:50And all the best in GT2 this weekend,
00:14:52Porsche Motorsport,
00:14:53and big fight with the Ferraris.
00:14:55Fantastic stuff.
00:14:56Okay, good.
00:14:57So, thank you.
00:14:58Thank you very much.
00:14:59Thanks, chaps.
00:15:00It's always great to get our guests in
00:15:03and particularly when it's
00:15:05of the stature of Porsche
00:15:07and, of course,
00:15:08the remaining crew are great
00:15:09and lovely to hear about
00:15:11what the future holds.
00:15:12What the future holds right now
00:15:14for Rebel and Racing
00:15:15is a bit of a tidy up.
00:15:17You see the screens
00:15:17just in front of the radiators
00:15:18getting cleaned off here.
00:15:19All kinds of debris.
00:15:21It's terrific to be allowed
00:15:22this sort of access
00:15:23to get this close list.
00:15:25There's virtually no other
00:15:25form of motorsport
00:15:26where you would have
00:15:27that much access
00:15:28at this hyper level.
00:15:30No, it is fantastic
00:15:31and that's sort of
00:15:32what sports car racing is about.
00:15:33They make an effort
00:15:34to really let the fans in
00:15:35to see what's going on
00:15:36and understand, you know,
00:15:37what complex machines
00:15:39these race cars are.
00:15:40And one of the biggest problems
00:15:41at Le Mans
00:15:42is cleaning
00:15:43is these radiator screens
00:15:44because you get so much debris
00:15:45on the circuit.
00:15:46The more the cars run,
00:15:47the more rubber pickup you get
00:15:48and all sorts of stuff
00:15:49off the side of the circuit.
00:15:50So, part of long
00:15:5124-hour racing
00:15:52is, you know,
00:15:54getting debris
00:15:54into the radiator screen.
00:15:55So, it's nice to be able
00:15:56to see how these cars work
00:15:58and what the mechanics
00:15:59have up against them.
00:16:00Today, I saw somebody
00:16:01walking around
00:16:01with a digital recorder
00:16:03and apparently
00:16:04he works for
00:16:04a ringtones company
00:16:05and I won't tell you
00:16:07what it is
00:16:07but they are busy
00:16:09recording engine sounds
00:16:10for people to actually
00:16:11have as ringtones.
00:16:12Oh, fantastic.
00:16:12Yes, which one
00:16:14are we going to pick
00:16:15as a rumbler
00:16:17for your phone
00:16:18along here?
00:16:19I think a saline
00:16:19takes a little bit
00:16:20of beating
00:16:20in terms of rumble
00:16:21but then again
00:16:22the Aston Martin does too.
00:16:23I was going to say
00:16:23I think I might be partial
00:16:24to the Aston Martin
00:16:25but maybe that's only
00:16:25because I've driven one.
00:16:26I've just had a message
00:16:27through from a friend
00:16:29of mine, Peter Thorpe
00:16:29who used to look after
00:16:31my race car
00:16:31many, many years ago
00:16:33when I was still driving
00:16:33a club racing BMW M3
00:16:35and he's asked me
00:16:36to say hello
00:16:37to his little boy Joseph
00:16:38so I just thought
00:16:39I would say
00:16:39hello Joseph.
00:16:40Go, go, Joe.
00:16:41Do we know how old
00:16:42Joseph is?
00:16:43We don't.
00:16:43It's not in here.
00:16:44Pete, can you tell us?
00:16:46I think Pete and Joseph
00:16:48are waving now
00:16:48because we have that lot.
00:16:50Sam from Malta
00:16:51has come through
00:16:53as well on our forum
00:16:54and said
00:16:54couldn't, I've been meaning
00:16:56to join this forum
00:16:57for four years
00:16:57finally got down to do it
00:16:58I'm a great Le Mans fan
00:17:00meant to go to the race
00:17:01couldn't make it
00:17:02but I want to know
00:17:03the really important question
00:17:04who's commentating
00:17:05on the graveyard shift tonight?
00:17:06Oh, yeah, yeah
00:17:07through the nightclub
00:17:09you've got us three
00:17:09for a start
00:17:10you've got us till 1am
00:17:11French time
00:17:12yeah, we're going off
00:17:13for a while
00:17:13but we'll be back later
00:17:14and then Neville Hay
00:17:15of course
00:17:16the not so still
00:17:17not so small voice
00:17:18in the night
00:17:18will be here
00:17:19all through the dark hours
00:17:20together with Chris Parsons
00:17:21and Martin Haven
00:17:22and they'll take you
00:17:23right through to dawn
00:17:24and they will have
00:17:24endless information
00:17:25for you
00:17:26more than you could
00:17:27ever hope for
00:17:27which is fantastic
00:17:28Neville Hay's voice box
00:17:29I know a lot of you
00:17:30have been asking questions
00:17:31and the answer is
00:17:32brandy and licorice
00:17:35there are plenty of that
00:17:37and you'll sound
00:17:38just like him
00:17:39we thought we'd keep it healthy
00:17:43so please keep all these
00:17:44things coming on
00:17:45we're having messages
00:17:46from Ireland
00:17:46as you heard Malta
00:17:47more from Singapore
00:17:48really great stuff
00:17:50our director seems to
00:17:51have got a love of
00:17:51rebellion at the moment
00:17:52doesn't he
00:17:53and he's spending
00:17:53a lot of time
00:17:54in the garage
00:17:54but this car
00:17:55still again
00:17:56been mightily impressive
00:17:57hasn't it
00:17:58the signature
00:17:58plus Lola Aston Martin
00:18:00and what a good job
00:18:02they're doing today
00:18:03they are
00:18:03they've just been
00:18:04putting in solid times
00:18:05banging them in
00:18:06one after another
00:18:06all three drivers
00:18:07very close to each
00:18:08other's times
00:18:09Vanina's recently
00:18:10gotten out
00:18:10and handed over
00:18:11to Pierre Rag
00:18:12and he is doing
00:18:13an equally good job
00:18:14in this car
00:18:14so it's just showing
00:18:16that consistency
00:18:17can keep you
00:18:17in the top ten
00:18:18very much so
00:18:19especially with
00:18:20the problems
00:18:22that all the vehicles
00:18:23seemingly have
00:18:24in front of them
00:18:24at the moment
00:18:25the double O cars
00:18:26incidentally
00:18:27are running
00:18:28six
00:18:28eight
00:18:29and ten
00:18:30the Lola Aston Martin
00:18:32is looking spectacular
00:18:32and it's the
00:18:34I almost said
00:18:35the gold leaf car
00:18:36but I presume
00:18:37that's what they've had
00:18:37to attach to the body
00:18:38work here
00:18:39because it's so gleaming
00:18:40what else could it be
00:18:42surely it's not paint
00:18:43oh I don't know
00:18:44what gold does
00:18:45perhaps
00:18:46gold leaf would be
00:18:46very very heavy
00:18:47if it weren't so thin
00:18:48a couple of microns
00:18:50so you're saying
00:18:50the Peugeot is a solid
00:18:52silver then
00:18:52by the same token
00:18:54well at the moment
00:18:55I don't think they'd be
00:18:57content with silver
00:18:58at the end of this one
00:18:58that's for sure
00:18:59for the time being
00:19:00they're in the gold
00:19:01medal position
00:19:01they're one
00:19:02two and three
00:19:03but Rockefeller
00:19:04is peddling brilliantly
00:19:05here
00:19:06he's on lap 92
00:19:07and he is one lap
00:19:10only then
00:19:10behind the leader
00:19:12Trulia is also
00:19:14only one lap adrift
00:19:15there's only two cars
00:19:16on the lead lap
00:19:16they both happen
00:19:17to be Peugeots
00:19:18incidentally
00:19:19the one and two car
00:19:20have got
00:19:21completely different
00:19:23ranges
00:19:24and I'm just wondering
00:19:25that's clearly down
00:19:26to I presume
00:19:27driver style here
00:19:30because the one car
00:19:32I believe
00:19:32is getting an extra
00:19:33lap on the two car
00:19:34see now yeah
00:19:35I think that could
00:19:36just be down to
00:19:37actually driver style
00:19:38and how they're
00:19:38managing the
00:19:39sort of the fuel
00:19:40and just being that
00:19:41bit more careful
00:19:41on throttle
00:19:42it's hard to say
00:19:43really
00:19:43now we've got
00:19:44a real battle
00:19:44going on
00:19:45this is Pierre
00:19:46Caffer in the
00:19:46Rizzi Ferrari
00:19:47he started dead
00:19:48last in the race
00:19:49he has just
00:19:50passed Manu
00:19:51Manu Collard
00:19:52to take the lead
00:19:53of GT2
00:19:54and Manu is
00:19:55fighting back
00:19:55yeah Collard's
00:19:56not going to let
00:19:57this one go
00:19:57and it's Corvettes
00:19:59versus Ferrari
00:19:59at the moment
00:20:00Corvettes
00:20:01two and three
00:20:02it was one and
00:20:03three
00:20:03what will be
00:20:05the outcome
00:20:05of this one
00:20:06well it's terrific
00:20:06to actually see
00:20:07racing like this
00:20:08so close
00:20:08we said the GT
00:20:09class would be
00:20:10all about this
00:20:10sort of toe-to-toe
00:20:12punching and
00:20:13right now
00:20:14it's a Ferrari
00:20:15that are topped
00:20:16on Porsche in
00:20:17fourth place
00:20:18with a 77 car
00:20:19Mark Leap
00:20:19still on board
00:20:20that one
00:20:21and we've got
00:20:21the Malaria
00:20:22No More
00:20:24outfit
00:20:25that I think
00:20:26there's some kind
00:20:28of number
00:20:28you can ring
00:20:29to make a donation
00:20:30if you want to
00:20:31spend some money
00:20:32on helping to
00:20:34get malaria
00:20:35I think it all
00:20:35comes down to
00:20:36netting
00:20:36for sleeping families
00:20:37it does
00:20:38it's a one
00:20:38mosquito netting
00:20:39for something
00:20:40can save an
00:20:41entire family
00:20:42or something
00:20:42yeah it's true
00:20:43it's a bit like
00:20:46a huge parachute
00:20:47type netting
00:20:48that goes inside
00:20:48a local house
00:20:50and allows
00:20:51everyone to
00:20:51stay clear
00:20:52of the
00:20:54scourge
00:20:55that is the
00:20:55mosquito
00:20:56in many parts
00:20:57of the world
00:20:57so it's a
00:20:58great idea
00:20:59and well
00:21:00it's great to
00:21:01see them running
00:21:02well as well
00:21:02I think they're in
00:21:0315th place
00:21:04at the moment
00:21:05yeah let's just
00:21:05have a quick look
00:21:06see what's going
00:21:06on there
00:21:07I believe at the
00:21:08moment the
00:21:08Stracca car is
00:21:09still just ahead
00:21:10of it
00:21:10Nick Leventus
00:21:11finally doing a
00:21:12good job
00:21:13there yes he is
00:21:13he's on the
00:21:15same lap
00:21:15now 13 seconds
00:21:17behind is Marco
00:21:18Werner according
00:21:18to our screens
00:21:19so he is hauling
00:21:20in Nick
00:21:21but Nick's just
00:21:22done a 3.48
00:21:23one of his best
00:21:23laps so far
00:21:24hi
00:21:24we've got problems
00:21:26here for the
00:21:26Flying Lizards
00:21:27have they been
00:21:27in for long
00:21:28or is this
00:21:28we mentioned
00:21:29them earlier
00:21:29what was the
00:21:31story we told
00:21:31sorry Liz
00:21:32you were about
00:21:33to say
00:21:33I was only going
00:21:34to say that
00:21:35I think the only
00:21:35reason you're
00:21:36seeing Nick
00:21:36back in first
00:21:37place is because
00:21:38Marco Werner
00:21:38has pitted
00:21:39and he's just
00:21:40doing his out
00:21:42lap because he
00:21:42had in fact
00:21:43passed Nick
00:21:44with that test
00:21:44and then he
00:21:45did a pit
00:21:46you know he
00:21:46pitted and
00:21:47now Nick's
00:21:48gone back
00:21:48ahead but I
00:21:48think we will
00:21:49soon see Marco
00:21:50reel him back
00:21:50in I'm afraid
00:21:51because his
00:21:51times are
00:21:52significantly
00:21:52quicker than
00:21:53Nick's
00:21:53you're absolutely
00:21:54right
00:21:54yeah we did
00:21:56mention the
00:21:57Lizards didn't
00:21:57we earlier on
00:21:58radiator trouble
00:21:58and they had
00:21:59after placing
00:22:01right front
00:22:02and radiator
00:22:03and front
00:22:03under tray
00:22:04they were
00:22:04getting oil
00:22:04pressure and
00:22:05water pressure
00:22:05alarms
00:22:06now this is a
00:22:07problem that
00:22:07does happen
00:22:08with Porsches
00:22:08sometimes because
00:22:09if you have any
00:22:10front end damage
00:22:11at all sometimes
00:22:11that can do
00:22:12radiator damages
00:22:13as well and
00:22:13this is a risk
00:22:14with racing in
00:22:15Porsche and it
00:22:15just makes me
00:22:16wonder if maybe
00:22:16they've just nudged
00:22:17someone up the
00:22:18back or had a
00:22:18little whoopsie
00:22:19somewhere and
00:22:19then that's just
00:22:20created all these
00:22:21problems
00:22:21trouble is as well
00:22:22if you've got
00:22:23meshing on the
00:22:24grille up front
00:22:25which allows the
00:22:25air through
00:22:26quite often it can
00:22:27let a little bit
00:22:28of debris through
00:22:28as well and once
00:22:29you're getting into
00:22:30the sort of gravel
00:22:32that we've got in
00:22:33this part of the
00:22:34world we've mentioned
00:22:34it about tyres but
00:22:36that can also have a
00:22:36detrimental effect on
00:22:37a front positioned
00:22:40radiator which of
00:22:41course the 911s
00:22:42have because the
00:22:43engine the powerhouse
00:22:44is at the rear
00:22:45yeah but what
00:22:45Liz is saying is
00:22:46absolutely right
00:22:47it's been that way
00:22:48for years now
00:22:49they've got their
00:22:49radiators in the
00:22:50front corner of the
00:22:50car the most
00:22:51vulnerable part it
00:22:52has been the
00:22:52Achilles heel why
00:22:53don't they do
00:22:54something about it
00:22:55I don't know and
00:22:56to be honest you'd
00:22:56think they would
00:22:57especially for these
00:22:58long distance races
00:22:59you're inevitably going
00:23:01to have something
00:23:01happen you'll either
00:23:02go over a curb and
00:23:03bash it in the
00:23:04front or have a
00:23:05whoopsie and bump
00:23:06the wall whereas in a
00:23:07normal car that
00:23:08wouldn't be a problem
00:23:08at all even in a
00:23:09prototype well we
00:23:10already saw one of the
00:23:11cars having off hit
00:23:12the wall came in
00:23:13changed driver and
00:23:14fuel where they went
00:23:15and that wouldn't be
00:23:15the case in a Porsche
00:23:16would have
00:23:16Carlton
00:23:17it's officially a
00:23:18double whoopsie
00:23:19event
00:23:19look at this battle
00:23:21continuing this has
00:23:22been raging for three
00:23:23or four laps now
00:23:24there's nothing in it
00:23:25as they complete lap
00:23:2680 there's the other
00:23:27remaining surviving
00:23:28BMW the 78 car
00:23:30I was going to say
00:23:30why on earth are we
00:23:31cutting away from it
00:23:32just at this crucial
00:23:33moment here because
00:23:34you just feel that
00:23:35in different parts of
00:23:37the circuit here the
00:23:38Corvette may well have
00:23:40a bit of an advantage
00:23:41he's on chase mode
00:23:42right now this is
00:23:43fantastic this is
00:23:44Collard versus
00:23:44Caffer here they
00:23:45know each other very
00:23:47very well don't forget
00:23:48there's a lot of
00:23:49racing between the
00:23:50pair of them and
00:23:52right now they're
00:23:53absolutely all over
00:23:55each other this is
00:23:55fantastic move now
00:23:57flashing lights
00:23:57saying I'm coming
00:23:58through I'm going to
00:23:59have a go I believe
00:23:59I've got the
00:24:00trajectory the line
00:24:01and the speed and
00:24:03he says absolutely
00:24:03not you can just
00:24:04jolly well wait
00:24:05this is Pierre
00:24:06cover and really
00:24:07collard at the
00:24:08moment he will be
00:24:10swearing interestingly
00:24:11they've both dropped
00:24:12the the 63 Corvette
00:24:14of Antonio Garcia
00:24:15that's now it's one
00:24:17lap down our
00:24:19screen this battle
00:24:20is raging so hard
00:24:21it doesn't matter
00:24:22they are actually
00:24:23pulling away this
00:24:24remarkably and what
00:24:25I love is that
00:24:26he's flashing his
00:24:26lights saying I
00:24:27want to pass well
00:24:28let's all be honest
00:24:29here he knows he's
00:24:30behind him it's not
00:24:31really a shock
00:24:32but I love that he's
00:24:33just flashed the
00:24:34lights at him anyway
00:24:34the one he's got
00:24:35left at the moment
00:24:36I'm looking at the
00:24:37Corvette it's only
00:24:38got one headlight
00:24:39exactly is that
00:24:39going to get
00:24:40pulled out of
00:24:41it might do
00:24:42especially as we
00:24:43head towards dusk
00:24:44here so I think
00:24:45he desperately wants
00:24:45to get in front of
00:24:46him maybe because
00:24:47he knows he's got
00:24:47to come in anyway
00:24:48not sure how deep
00:24:49he is into his run
00:24:50here and whether
00:24:51it's actually coming
00:24:52to that time
00:24:53anywhere he's going
00:24:54to have to come in
00:24:54but clearly he would
00:24:56love to be in the
00:24:58leading position here
00:24:59before he has to
00:25:00make that move
00:25:00he will get called
00:25:01for a headlight
00:25:02out you cannot
00:25:03race without
00:25:04your proper
00:25:05illuminations up
00:25:06just looking at
00:25:07GT2 class at the
00:25:08moment
00:25:08Caffer Collard
00:25:09García is running
00:25:10in third place
00:25:11with Mark Lieb
00:25:12in fourth as we
00:25:12told you
00:25:13and Fisichella
00:25:13running in fifth
00:25:14place
00:25:14that's how GT2
00:25:15settles for now
00:25:16we won't settle
00:25:17for anything less
00:25:18than a real battle
00:25:19and that's what
00:25:19we've got here
00:25:20sadly we're going
00:25:21to have to take
00:25:21a break
00:25:22we'll keep an
00:25:23eye on this
00:25:23and we'll let you
00:25:24know exactly what
00:25:25happens in a few
00:25:26moments
00:25:27and it goes on
00:25:30and on
00:25:31and on
00:25:31Pierre Caffer
00:25:32and Emmanuel
00:25:33Collard
00:25:33at the moment
00:25:34side by side
00:25:36it looks like
00:25:36they might well
00:25:37be fairly surely
00:25:38here
00:25:38it's Ferrari
00:25:39versus Corvette
00:25:40it's one and two
00:25:41in the class
00:25:42this is about GT2
00:25:43honours at the
00:25:44moment
00:25:44but as night time
00:25:45calls
00:25:46I can tell you
00:25:47as well
00:25:47he'll be getting
00:25:48the call
00:25:48Will Collard
00:25:49in the Corvette
00:25:50to come in
00:25:51and get that
00:25:52light fixed
00:25:52you cannot get
00:25:53out there
00:25:54when it's dark
00:25:55without your
00:25:56light
00:25:56in fact
00:25:56this update
00:25:58can arrive
00:25:59during the day
00:26:00as well
00:26:00no no
00:26:01not in this
00:26:02level of racing
00:26:02it's the same
00:26:03in the American
00:26:03Le Mans series
00:26:04and I believe
00:26:04the LMS as well
00:26:05where you do
00:26:06need to have
00:26:06your lights
00:26:06on at all
00:26:07times
00:26:07so I'm waiting
00:26:09to see
00:26:10when he's going
00:26:10to get the call
00:26:11surely the team
00:26:12at this stage
00:26:12has probably
00:26:12been told
00:26:13already
00:26:13that they need
00:26:14to call him
00:26:15in for it
00:26:15and I'm not
00:26:17sure what's
00:26:17going to happen
00:26:17there
00:26:18we'll just
00:26:18have to wait
00:26:18to see
00:26:19I'm telling you
00:26:19I nearly
00:26:19haven't
00:26:20one of the
00:26:20hours here
00:26:21just coming up
00:26:22on the outside
00:26:24he's got to
00:26:25hurry up
00:26:25he knows
00:26:26there's a battle
00:26:26going on here
00:26:27he's got to
00:26:28respect that
00:26:28fight
00:26:29and the lines
00:26:30that they might
00:26:30take
00:26:31and he was
00:26:31very very lucky
00:26:32that Emmanuel
00:26:33had his wits
00:26:34about him
00:26:35there
00:26:35and yes
00:26:36that is his
00:26:37crew
00:26:37I think
00:26:37he may well
00:26:38be coming in
00:26:39next time
00:26:39once more
00:26:41he clearly
00:26:42wants to get
00:26:43as deep
00:26:43into this run
00:26:44as possible
00:26:45before he
00:26:46comes in
00:26:46in fact
00:26:47the 92
00:26:48car has got
00:26:48the stop
00:26:49order right
00:26:49now
00:26:49it's been
00:26:50issued to
00:26:50a close
00:26:511-2-3
00:26:52so you can't
00:26:52do it
00:26:52do it
00:26:53do it
00:26:54do it
00:26:54no
00:26:54it's just
00:26:55in fact
00:26:552-2
00:26:56it's stopped
00:26:56at
00:26:571-2-3
00:26:58it's getting
00:26:59a bit
00:26:59carried
00:26:59on
00:26:59it
00:27:00but
00:27:00this
00:27:01is
00:27:01the
00:27:01back
00:27:02to
00:27:02the
00:27:03the

00:27:06it
00:27:07it
00:27:07it
00:27:08it
00:27:08it
00:27:09it
00:27:09it
00:27:10it
00:27:11it
00:27:11it
00:27:12it
00:27:12goes on
00:27:14let's have a look
00:27:28he's in a dead position and in fact we've got paramedics here and he's automatically called
00:27:32anyway for any incident regardless just to check him out incidentally just going back to Nigel
00:27:36Manson earlier on uh we were fearful that he had uh severe leg injuries in the end it turned out
00:27:42that he didn't have too much uh well indeed uh he has a walking wounding so it's not too bad
00:27:49but what we have got now we have just heard from beachley indeed mansell that the temperature
00:27:55showed us a slow puncture that was the core reason it was recently
00:27:59so uh so flying lizards we saw parked up in the garage that flying lizards car is now
00:28:05going to be found to climb and they had to punch on their outlet and found further
00:28:08we can and this season became a gamer versus the vehicle's car
00:28:13price where it is on board the 92 car and the safety car has been deployed
00:28:18uh we're just going to compress the field here now if they've uh three safety cars we had earlier on
00:28:24which uh really annoyed
00:28:34um it is going to be an interesting one because uh the lead cars two of them
00:28:39first of the 96 laps uh the persia of olivia had the system 95 and so as the aerodies of rocket
00:28:45on the south of trugia now where they get picked up on the course is going to be a matter of debate
00:28:50and i think this one's going to range a bit because i feel very aggrieved about the pickup
00:28:55pattern from the first safety car issue off the back as they crash to the client
00:28:59yeah the aco regulations are quite specific they're not obliged to pick up any of the race or class
00:29:04leaders liz oh right okay well technically they should in in decent racing matters they should
00:29:10this is the difference between exactly this is the huge difference because in alms they do pick up the
00:29:15class leader which i think is right i think that's the way it should be done it keeps the racing the
00:29:19races it doesn't sort of you know it's wrongly mess anybody up because i think that you should win
00:29:25the race while having good pit strategy good safety car strategy all of that it should just be
00:29:30determined by outside forces and what this safety car is also maybe going to do is either help or
00:29:35it could be good but we saw earlier it is allowed to come in uh this uh safety car here and here
00:29:51and that's the reason why they've got debbie all over there that has been that for something for an hour
00:29:56prior to that uh chance as well to actually clear some of this um if he does come in uh gets his
00:30:02life fixed he may well not uh uh drag a lap here uh that kind of thing i'm not quite sure how
00:30:08quickly i can make that change whether or not just do it from uh just do a whole thing
00:30:13uh uh it's uh it's uh it's uh it's still a bit more than the light that's about again it's in this
00:30:20a box that we have to have battles for that gt2 and so you can get the uh
00:30:26number two car certainly uh uh which is okay and uh bryce miller uh out there
00:30:33but we saw him walking away yeah but uh you've got to check for concussion and all that kind of
00:30:37thing so i can't see how much damage there is that's rob feld's uh car who won't be happy about
00:30:44uh chance as well for a little bit of sweeping to go on in some areas uh heavy braking where there
00:30:49tends to be just a little bit of gravel at the moment uh it's tidy up time i'd want to accept
00:30:55um damn you'll probably have been waiting for something like this just said they've got a
00:30:58chance to do a general cleanup i don't know if he'd be waiting for it i'm not sure if he really ever
00:31:03want to have you know a big long safety car or anything it takes detract from the racing and it
00:31:07ruins someone's day but certainly it's an opportunity for the crew to make an effort to give everybody a
00:31:12better racing line and a safer track to drive it's interesting just uh looking through the fields
00:31:17here uh in many different forms uh the drivers are also uh alerted to it uh instantly and a good job
00:31:26too because the last thing you want is somebody coming around the blind corner and then finally
00:31:29a train of cars like this uh some will take the opportunity to make that change one air gun two men
00:31:35will be doing the job and some questions about that as well and uh we have one and two vehicles
00:31:40only at the moment just being held and waiting for the beginning of the get-go uh there will be a
00:31:46drive-by here and that um uh release in one of uh the air is and uh it is uh for gt as well
00:31:54the last remaining yes uh uh yes i must have to sort of uh number myself to say that and uh just gotta
00:32:09check but yeah it's a real shame um that we lost of course the gt61 car it took fire with
00:32:16it's not an easy job to actually cross over that void
00:32:31and if you look inside one of these vehicles especially the gts they've got all kinds of
00:32:34racing uh in the side and it's not an easy job to actually cross over that void
00:32:39uh probably helps out the emergency of the situation you've got out cleanly which is good to
00:32:48see and as if by magic there is the burnt uh back end of that vehicle just just bear in mind these four
00:32:54gts are but only for one hour races
00:32:57long they say it's already something they've lasted this long they're basically two of them
00:33:01have almost managed a thousand days essentially it's about the six hour mark so at least one of them
00:33:06what we've got this height is uh question from tarix from the studio
00:33:09it's a very good one actually he says uh thank you guys
00:33:12i know there's basically going to be a grading system it's sort of you know bronze gold silver sort
00:33:27of high grading system of the amateur who will be
00:33:31the beauty product um i know there are going to be two different sections of gt there's going
00:33:35to be a standard full-up gt which can be you know tip top drivers cars
00:33:42everything factory outfit and there's going to be the program section as well but how the actual
00:33:47grading will work i don't know and i actually recently just spoke to scott atherton of the
00:33:51american lamont series and they have a similar section there and i asked him how the grading
00:33:55worked and he said even from him it's a bit of a gray area so there's there's somebody up
00:33:59very important that knows how it works but it's not me i'm correct
00:34:03but what you will see it's going to be called gt endurance next year gt1 will be gone it will
00:34:07be gt2 and as we said subdivisions
00:34:10prey and drivers so what it means basically is you can run a four factory uh driver team in one
00:34:17category so you can have physical with uh lacy and perhaps even valando and also if he's not busy in
00:34:23formula one well it's uh almost hand over time as uh we have uh sadly yet another safety car here
00:34:31uh the procedure brought out because the price bill has asked him unfortunately uh has uh uh just
00:34:37come off in a dangerous position so as a result the safety car is out once again i suspect uh fairly
00:34:42shortly we may well be taking all of our commercial breaks uh in the meantime so the safety cars do uh
00:34:47continue to continue to serve with you so it's uh time then for us uh to make our uh farewell
00:34:53don't forget uh that website uh we will be back a little bit later uh uh in the meantime it's uh
00:35:02welcome back to le mans where the safety car is still out after the incident
00:35:32that involved the jmw aston martin well the car uh has been in dreadful break trouble since the
00:35:39beginning of the week and it seems that it has now been caught out safety car is out with alexander
00:35:45woods leading in the number one version although strictly speaking of course when i say the safety
00:35:51car is the safety car is out i am speaking in a singular when there are more than one indeed there
00:35:55are more than two safety cars here in le mans circulating with used cars behind them there
00:36:00all three of them hello everybody welcome back to your sports live coverage of le mans
00:36:03martin over here alongside me is gently shaw and stuart hall and stuart the drivers a particularly
00:36:10frustrating period you're all fine time sweating tonight and really in the groove particularly in
00:36:17some of the really close battles we've seen and yet he is now stuck behind the safety car circulating
00:36:23well who lives now yes it is frustrating for you martin and the safety car's out again we had a nice
00:36:29look at the number seven car on the plane i believe under this caution
00:36:57I don't think yet any of the other leaders have been on to pit lane, as we saw earlier on, it's very difficult to figure out your strategies when you've got three safety cars on the train, because when you come in, you take on your service and you get to the end of the pit lane, you have to wait then for the next safety car to come past, and then you can rejoin the line behind that.
00:37:21I'm always assuming that the judge of fact at the end of the pit lane remembers what the rules are and actually lets the cars out instead of holding the van forever.
00:37:28Well, yeah, you hold them until the next safety car comes past.
00:37:31That's the rule. That's not actually the way it works for the first safety car.
00:37:34That's why I've marked BDS racing for the last three minutes and a half waiting for the safety car to use.
00:37:39Unfortunately, it's a fiasco.
00:37:43They opened the pit lane, because that was only six cars going up to the safety car, so they had a very short window then to...
00:37:50If the marked BDS car wasn't there by the time the last car went past...
00:37:54He was there, waiting.
00:37:55Was he there?
00:37:56Oh, yeah. Yes, I'm afraid the judge of fact was using...
00:38:00The sleep at the wheel.
00:38:01Indeed.
00:38:02Of course you've seen that quite a lot, it would appear.
00:38:04Um, so you're going to lose track position and it's all very complicated.
00:38:09That's the impossible experience.
00:38:10But I was going to be used to that to several of the strategists, you know.
00:38:14You know, asking them, how do you figure the safety car, you really don't know.
00:38:19And it wasn't just one guy who said that, it was two or three different race engineers.
00:38:23So I think it's luck of the draw, it really is.
00:38:27Yes, Stuart, when you get race engineers at this level going, best guess is we might possibly get away with something.
00:38:34Then you know that as soon as the safety car comes out, everything gets thrown up in the air.
00:38:39And that's not really the way anybody wants to run their race.
00:38:42It does, and it is massively frustrating for all the race engineers and strategists down the pit lane.
00:38:47But I think it's the same for everyone.
00:38:49It's luck of the draw, really.
00:38:50And you're either lucky and you get helped by it, or you're unlucky.
00:38:54Like in the marked BDS racing Ford GT's case, you don't get helped out by it.
00:38:59But, you know, some people will be rubbing their hands together now.
00:39:02Some people will be thinking, oh darn, you know, we've just come into the pits and safety car's out.
00:39:06Yeah, I don't think there's many people going to be rubbing their hands together to leave, to be honest.
00:39:09But in case, what we have now, we've got the two factory projects, numbers one and two, out quite a long way apart.
00:39:18I think they are separated by a safety car.
00:39:21And then another safety car, farther back, there's going to be a penny in the third place to come before the Oracle car.
00:39:27So it's all rather messy, this, in my opinion.
00:39:31Then we've got the pair of Audis, another lap back.
00:39:35And farther down the order, we've got Nick LaVentis, who's still at the wheel of the Striderway as the HPD.
00:39:44And they are needing LK2 up.
00:39:46I believe this isn't a problem for the Mark & Verna HPD chassis.
00:39:50I believe they have had a puncture.
00:39:53Yes, they did, yeah.
00:39:54That's right.
00:39:55On the way back up to the booth, they have had a puncture.
00:39:57And they took down the lead beforehand.
00:40:00And they were due to the surrender of the pit stops, so they couldn't walk around again.
00:40:04So yes, they had a table during the pit stops and were due to...
00:40:07I think you don't take it off.
00:40:09I thought you were doing it in the fourth place.
00:40:10Listen, that's what Tony was doing as quickly as was Mark & Verna.
00:40:14But I have to say, Nick was doing a pretty respectable job in turning some not-bad lap tires in that.
00:40:19They are 13th and 14th overall to HPD cars.
00:40:24And they are, I think, a couple of laps ahead of Miguel Amaral, who's driving the ASM Kiffle car.
00:40:32In third place at 16th overall.
00:40:34In 21st place overall.
00:40:36The first in GT1, which is now the Leucanform Corvette.
00:40:42I think that's because Romain Grosjean, who had been leading the number 16,
00:40:48May take competition for GT, leading GT1,
00:40:51for most of the afternoon in the evening.
00:40:53I think that last day failed recently.
00:40:57So that is why I think it was really much the lead in GT1 to Petriche Grosjean in Cup 73.
00:41:05I think that was the, in the business plan of the, uh, the class leaders.
00:41:10It is, uh, yet powerful.
00:41:11Still getting the ATT-T-T-T-Risi-Competition Ferrari.
00:41:14That leads now, I think, by a safety car length.
00:41:17I can get my reading.
00:41:18It's about two and a half minutes.
00:41:20This is the second place car of Oliver Gallen, unfortunately,
00:41:23has been held up by a safety car.
00:41:24So once again, the battle there has been messed up.
00:41:27Uh, also news in the GT2 class.
00:41:30I just saw Darren Law walking back through the paddock.
00:41:33The Flying Lizard Corcher.
00:41:34Darren said that he incurred the heavily thick through the S's.
00:41:40Uh, so pretty much very early in the round.
00:41:43Damaged the radiator.
00:41:44Looked it around.
00:41:45Got about to fix it.
00:41:46Changed the radiator.
00:41:47But, unfortunately, the engine, uh, had overheated.
00:41:49Had been damaged.
00:41:50And it hasn't been overheated.
00:41:51The car has been retired.
00:41:52So we can search another one, uh, onto our list of the requirements.
00:41:56And, uh, unfortunately, the first retirement of us, the, uh,
00:42:00the, uh, auto-cold car as well.
00:42:01And, uh, that means that that has, at the very least, freed up Hugh Chamberlain
00:42:05to come and out of the chat with us.
00:42:06And, uh, huge, uh, the, uh, the, uh, the, uh,
00:42:09the, uh, the disappointing end to the auto-con, uh, race.
00:42:13It barely even got started with it.
00:42:15Not really, did it?
00:42:16No.
00:42:17No.
00:42:18No, it wasn't very good.
00:42:19Um, it was very unfortunate because we had, uh,
00:42:22had yet got a problem on Wednesday.
00:42:24Rebuilt the thing.
00:42:26And we had exactly the same problem today.
00:42:29Now, we've been told that safety car is due to come in this lap
00:42:32on our screens.
00:42:33This looks like the end of the lap to me, but that safety car,
00:42:36well, I don't know where exactly he's going to come in to,
00:42:38but clearly that safety car is not coming in this lap.
00:42:40So, uh, we'll keep...
00:42:42Or has he just stopped?
00:42:43Has he just slowed down to let them all go by?
00:42:45No.
00:42:46No?
00:42:47More muppetry going on there.
00:42:48So, yeah, it didn't stop exactly well.
00:42:50I mean, the car had come hot foot from, uh,
00:42:53Mazda Raceway Laguna Sega.
00:42:55So, I mean, those guys were really up against it in time.
00:42:57So, time, preparation, getting here, everything else.
00:42:59But, uh, they had a hard start, and it didn't get north a lot easier either.
00:43:05No, that's for sure.
00:43:07On those pace car buses, that was probably the pace car that stopped at the beginning of the main street.
00:43:12Perhaps.
00:43:13Don't even get me started.
00:43:14Right off the table.
00:43:15All the love in the last...
00:43:16Oh, no.
00:43:17It's for all of us for the reason I lied.
00:43:18Oh, I haven't heard of that.
00:43:20Oh, I've been sitting out of the back, quietly crying, and rightly fathom it.
00:43:23Oh, that's not what you're supposed to do.
00:43:24Behind the safety car.
00:43:26Behind the bridges.
00:43:27No, no, no.
00:43:28Oh, no, that's wrong.
00:43:29And, uh, he's probably hit something.
00:43:32He's trying to make it worse now.
00:43:34He is.
00:43:35He missed the barrier traffic reversal into the barrier.
00:43:37He missed it there.
00:43:38He missed it there.
00:43:39He didn't miss it entirely, though.
00:43:40He has now got a great big hole in the left front, and most of the splitter is missing.
00:43:43What on earth has he done there?
00:43:45And he's not the only one, because that is an LP2 front driver,
00:43:49I'm in the advantage of beastly number 42's drag and HPV in the gravel.
00:43:54And that evens the score with Marvin and Bernard's puncture for their rivals,
00:43:58and I don't know what to do, safety cars.
00:44:01I mean, he can get long into the race in the middle of the night.
00:44:04We often say the real danger is the driver is just slightly gnawed off,
00:44:07but...
00:44:08Dear, dear.
00:44:09In broad daylight.
00:44:11Yeah, well...
00:44:12Once upon a time I had a guy that went off behind the pace car and spark,
00:44:16hit the barriers and then...
00:44:19Decided that the best thing to do, having hit the barriers and taking the corner of the back of the car off, the best thing to do is to change up, which meant that the actual barriers make more at the pace the same time.
00:44:29And that will go out of the pace car, so nothing surprises me.
00:44:32I have yet a good grip to park in somewhere before you go back to the pit.
00:44:36Lots of smoke coming off the Audi.
00:44:38I think the Ventus will get dragged out of the gravel, and luckily it is behind the pace car, so you're not going to lose a huge amount of time.
00:44:44On the other hand, his team could have not been here, well it is at the double bridge, so the team could have done with an awful lot less drive than that.
00:44:53He is dragged out there, they were all in gear, this is in the map as well, they were trying to get a bit stopped up to the safety car here, they probably will now anyway.
00:45:03Yeah, this will at least extend the safety car period, so we're going to give him a little more time to get around, maybe get him to the pits.
00:45:09And I think it was too, but it is a major disaster for a second race, because they've done a sensational job this afternoon.
00:45:17It was Johnny Kane who started that car, and it was that he was, and they were all out of it.
00:45:22They pulled out a gammel of about two and a half minutes over the hydro-facing HPDM, and that was not made assisted by the safety car, that was sheer pace.
00:45:31I think we can bring it to Nash to do that, and now he's able to try it away.
00:45:34Well, did he actually get past by one of the safety car, but I'm sure he did at least one, because that would mean he was really hard, a part of a lap, or a third of a lap, but did he always get on the way, except of course the period of the safety car that he may have got, of the Audi there will slow him down again, I hope to hear that.
00:45:53However, the ACU are still insisting the safety car is coming in this lap, one or some or all of them, possibly, but possibly not as well.
00:46:05But not the one that we can see?
00:46:06No, well, not the one taking the driver's on, and the Audi is on pit road, and that is pretty second hand, isn't it?
00:46:12Mind you, they will just take the nose off and charge him, so hopefully that will swipe his credit card.
00:46:17That will probably go in the car first of all, and that will be eye-worned, won't it?
00:46:25And then you, you're a bit expensive.
00:46:26Spending you about your car?
00:46:27Are you afraid not?
00:46:28No, I was trying to make sure I didn't have to explain it about the car.
00:46:30I was hopeful I was going to change the subject sufficiently to be able to get around that.
00:46:36Yeah, again, I was working with the Autocon team, this week, they had a basic set up like a split small team, sorry, just to interrupt, we didn't get an item, that wheel is what they had to do to be.
00:46:45I was thinking, I think, that, the chip, no, that's another part of the problem, I think that might get back in the game.
00:46:51I have a fresh, well, I'm not too.
00:46:53The problem with our gift box happened on wind, and took further time before the light, but right as if, like the term I've used it all,
00:47:06it, there's, we, we've got to put another gift box in, and I thought it was exactly the same thing happened, so, uh, we still don't know, we thought we knew why it could go on the first time,
00:47:16but at least, I said, the wrong way, the gearbox plan was on, we rebuilt another one, we rebuilt another one, we rebuilt another one, we rebuilt another one, and, uh, exactly the same thing happened, so, uh, I fear they will not find a,
00:47:30problem now, at least, that's, that's not a problem, you know, the drivers are just not, as they go back and, uh, go back and come back on flatbed, and, um, twenty-three hours, what was it, fifty-nine, fifty-eight and a half minutes, I think, which is not funny, I have the drivers are distraught,
00:47:56Yes, as they ought to be, and that the mechanics, of course, who are, in fairness to them, are all part-timers.
00:48:06Well, if you can't hold out, the green flag has been waived, wherever that is, and here comes, except it's not been shown on the graphics here, so we all took the same to go out, and we did go, I didn't think they could mess it up unless they were last time, but apparently, they have messed up the release of the class even worse than the previous time.
00:48:26So, another safety car period falls spectacularly short of even remotely acceptable standards, and once again, the pace that picked up the race leader, which, to be, just basically, that's a little back it out, when you're on the other part.
00:48:43So, Michelin National, he's in such a place, he's stuck behind that pace back in a lot of the couple of U2 cars, he was very circumspect, wasn't he going into the Dunlop Curve on the east side, that's me.
00:48:55Yeah, yes, he was.
00:48:57One of the three, one of the parts, would give out the A, cold tires, and B, oh, what's happening?
00:49:01Well, really.
00:49:02Why is this H-Cone just stopped on the straight? What was going on with that?
00:49:05Is it H-Cone just knocked on the straight? What was going on with that?
00:49:09They put them where they should have been.
00:49:11That was, oh, for that mistake, the other one, someone here, oh, no, I think they killed you.
00:49:16However, we are racing once more at a combination of cold tires, and I'm not quite sure what on earth is going on with this, so I'm still keeping an action now.
00:49:24This is H-Cone just on the right, on an Audi, and I'm not sure which reality that was, but it's coming long before all the realities are laughing behind and forth.
00:49:36They are already, it's going to take, they are already, aren't they?
00:49:39It is going to be a very, very long 18 hours just under, before they are finally present in Asia.
00:49:46And we're now just going to have to grind on you, and just get to the air, and do whatever it is they can do, to rescue some kind of, uh, admirers, because they aren't going to be trapped by person.
00:50:00They are on the base right now, and I have them in the back, although I wouldn't bet against them when they race track the other people out, but certainly at the moment.
00:50:08They can't catch a break, they really can't.
00:50:12We're going to take a quick motor break as we go away now, of course, so we'll be back in just a moment.
00:50:16Welcome back lads, we're in 17 hours and 42 minutes, the world's greatest endurance motor race still together, just returning to green flag racing, and into the periods of carbon, the selection of cars will catch up with that action in a minute.
00:50:36Thank you very much.
00:51:06It seems that everybody is just about coming out from these safety guards.
00:51:19Yeah, now they're on their second rotation now,
00:51:21with Jimmy Brady going behind the wheel.
00:51:24Also, we did see Neglective brought the LAP2 class,
00:51:30and we are going, I think,
00:51:36to go down to the pitlane and find out from Nick Levendez exactly what's happened.
00:51:40As you say, Johnny Cain is in the car, at the moment the car is back up to speed,
00:51:45and still being shown as the leader in the LAP2 class,
00:51:48it will be up 31 seconds over Marco Verna.
00:51:52So, Johnny Cain back to the wheel,
00:51:55skid down to the pitlane, catch up with Nick Levendez,
00:51:58he was in the car during the safety car period,
00:52:01and ended up in the gravel of the double curve.
00:52:06Nick, what happened exactly?
00:52:10I just got called out in cold time,
00:52:12the safety guard has dropped quite a lot in the last half an hour,
00:52:15so, easy mistake to make, but it hasn't possible to see much,
00:52:17so it should be straight back in there.
00:52:19Yeah, you're still leading, Bill.
00:52:21Yeah, absolutely, I think we've got the pace in the car,
00:52:24it's good being able to triple stint,
00:52:25I think we've got a good balance in the car,
00:52:27so we'll see how the night takes us,
00:52:28and hopefully we'll still be at the front in the end.
00:52:29Yeah, you've got some good drivers behind you, Marco Verna,
00:52:34David Brahm, it's such a good race for you.
00:52:37Absolutely, it's great to have them in this competition,
00:52:39but at the end of the day, we want both cars to finish,
00:52:42really, but we'll try and finish in front of them if we can.
00:52:46Thank you so much.
00:52:47Yeah, thanks.
00:52:49Well, Nick Levent is almost going to get out of jail free car there,
00:52:53as he said, because probably if there hadn't been a safety car,
00:52:55he may not have made that error as the tire temperatures plummeted,
00:52:58but at least the safety car was out long enough for him to get back to the pitch
00:53:02without losing a lot of time, so we can get back to the last lead.
00:53:04Now, we were hoping to get a little bit back up to speed on what happened to the number 61
00:53:10mega-tech competition for GT, because one of the three drivers,
00:53:14right off, bring us join us here in the booth.
00:53:16First of all, welcome to Monk, because I guess this is your first time here, right?
00:53:19Yeah, absolutely, it's my first time here in Le Mans,
00:53:22and it's great to be here, thanks a lot.
00:53:24It's a very different race, I've seen you racing in for the red,
00:53:27other in for the most, you know, junior single seasons on, you know,
00:53:30purpose-made racecourses, it's very, very different.
00:53:34First of all, the carless way, you know, from four single seasons and feel like it,
00:53:39and secondly, you've got a very different track to play on.
00:53:42How have you found it?
00:53:43Um, yeah, it was not easy, but in the end, you have a chance of handling,
00:53:47and you have to get used to the car, to the track, in the end, we were able to improve every day,
00:53:54and, you know, in such kind of car, especially in the GT1s, you have to be very patient,
00:54:01because everybody needs to feel a lot more special breaking and direct to change,
00:54:05but, uh, it's getting better, okay?
00:54:07I don't know, yeah, exactly, we saw a bit, because, uh, normally Natasha and Cindy would drive the
00:54:21the GT1, uh, world temperature.
00:54:25So, Natasha, we saw, obviously, very dramatic, the way the car stopped.
00:54:29She was clearly aware that there was a problem, I don't know if she knew there was a fire,
00:54:34but certainly a lack of power and response in the cars, I think, although it's a
00:54:38important thing, but, uh, unfortunately, we, uh, we are out of the race, uh, but we don't know
00:54:52exactly what happened, it could be that we had, uh, a little, uh, a fuel leak, because, uh, the car used a lot more fuel than, uh, than a normal should, so, um, but the car is not bad yet, we just have to see what happened.
00:55:20Okay, now, of course, Jeremy, after the fire, there's so much melted and charred, and it's, you have to be a bit of a forensic engineer to really work out where it started.
00:55:30I do see what you want to see here from an exploit.
00:55:33I'd like to remember that the car was clearly electrical, it could never fit slightly up in the fire that I had in the, in Rails car.
00:55:41It looked like fuel, I mean, it was a clear, clear fire out of the wagon.
00:55:44And, uh, it had a great view, as you say, it certainly made sense, and, uh, we had some, some fuel down, and we were talking for all of them, and, uh, four-five, and that was, uh, they had a help from there.
00:55:53So, a great chance, because there's a great way to be captain.
00:55:56The other team, the other team, the other team, the other team, Thomas Bush, and Jake Leach, who is running a few of us with.
00:56:00Yeah, absolutely, they are leading now, they cheat you on class, and, um, yeah, it's still a long way to go, but, um, everything went well by now, but, uh, everything went well by now, but, uh, everything went well by now.
00:56:12Okay, so, at the beginning of the year, you've never thought about it before, presumably, you're a civil season racer, and we've come here.
00:56:20Do you have to walk, go ahead and come back, go ahead and come back?
00:56:23No, absolutely not.
00:56:25We've got another one.
00:56:27We've got another one.
00:56:28Yeah, absolutely, yeah.
00:56:29I enjoyed every second to be here in Le Mans, and, um, hopefully, uh, we are able to come back, uh, we've got another possibility to, to drive here in Le Mans, which is, uh, we'll see what happens.
00:56:40Well, that would be fantastic.
00:56:41The more people we can convert to Le Mans, whether it's fans or drivers, are the best we like it.
00:56:46So, it's been really disappointed to see you go down, so, at least, we hope that everybody gets the race into the night, even if they don't get to see the end of the race.
00:56:56Well, hopefully, we'll see you back in the end of the day, so, yeah, I'll get to the end of the race.
00:57:00All right, listen, thank you very much for coming on to talk to us.
00:57:03Fantastic, well, I'll throw, uh, now then.
00:57:06And, ironically, we're now going to get down to the pit lane and talk to one of our teammates.
00:57:11We'll see how the album has been lined up for us, so, uh, I shall translate that from the French, we hope.
00:57:16We'll see how that works.
00:57:18A little backlander braking.
00:57:21Was that the GT2 lead just changing?
00:57:23It was with Gavin just taking the lead there, leaving the chicane.
00:57:26Excellent action just to the right time as well, when I turn my attention back to the screen.
00:57:31Even Acyon is in pit road with the number two car in second place for Berger.
00:57:36We've been wanting to be in this number three, which, meanwhile, has been a lot of time in Japan still these days racing in New Orleans Super GT.
00:57:46In the screen there, a very quick turnaround for quick, in Acyon just feeling it out.
00:57:52Here goes as the eighth pit stop of that car.
00:57:55Seven stops cost them seven minutes for two seconds.
00:57:58And the eighth pit stop and one change over.
00:58:01That's why, that's why those figures are on the E-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D.
00:58:23Now, also, we have got Alexander Woods.
00:58:37We're going to let Royal go because, obviously, we're having trouble planning to see the Alba in 12.
00:58:43Alexander Woods are still leading in the number one purchase.
00:58:47And interestingly, Jeremy, to acknowledge that once did they creep into 13 laps while their teammates were doing 12.
00:58:53But basically, once they've established what the fuel weight they were using in each stint was, they've changed up to 30 laps stints and they're still regularly banging them in.
00:59:03So, not only are they less thirsty, they're also more quicky as well.
00:59:08So, that's, I mean, that is the genius combination here.
00:59:11If you can be quick and parsimonious, then, my goodness, you've really got something in hand over your teammates.
00:59:18And, every pit stop, of course, the course is costing them a minimum three quarters, two minutes for fuel alone.
00:59:24So, you know, they are saving time on the track.
