00:17Oh!
00:19Whoa!
00:20Hello!
00:23Hello, everybody!
00:24Good evening!
00:26Hello!
00:29You're so very welcome to the show, one on all.
00:32Do you like my outfit?
00:35Do you like it?
00:37I made a very swift visit to the tailor earlier today.
00:41He's very excited about my suit.
00:44Now, look, there is a lot of excitement in the studio tonight.
00:47We have a world-class line-up for you, singing for us later.
00:50Look over there, it's the brilliant Lewis Capaldi!
00:53CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
00:56Welcome back to Lewis.
00:57He'll be performing his new single,
00:58something in the heavens.
01:00But, heavens above, who's on my sofa tonight?
01:02Well, first off, this Irish actor stole our hearts in About Time,
01:06endured the wilderness in The Revenant,
01:08and defied the resistance in the Star Wars franchise.
01:11Now he brings us a new sitcom, The Paper.
01:13It's Donald Gleeson, everybody!
01:15CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
01:17There he is!
01:19You look so smart!
01:21You look so smart!
01:22You're down there, you're on the end!
01:24Yeah!
01:25CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
01:27We've two ass-kicking stars from the new sci-fi film Tron Aries.
01:31One's a style icon who rocks every red carpet and made her big-screen debut in the indie hit Queen and Slim.
01:38The other is the scene-stealing star of Russian Doll, The Morning Show and the heartbreaking past lives.
01:45It's Jodie Turner-Smith and Greta Lea!
01:48CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
01:50Wowza!
01:52It's very strong!
01:53Very strong!
01:54Look!
01:55Look!
01:56Hello!
01:57Hi!
01:58It's very strong!
01:59Look!
02:00Have a seat, Bill!
02:01Oh!
02:02Hi!
02:03Hi!
02:04This actor first made his mark in the post-apocalyptic 28 days later before going on to star in the hit TV series Peaky Blinders and winning an Oscar for his performance in Oppenheimer.
02:16Now he stars in the intense classroom drama Steve.
02:20It's a first-time welcome to the great Cillian Murphy!
02:25CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
02:27Hey!
02:28CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
02:29Hello, sir.
02:30Nice to see you.
02:31Hello, hello, hello.
02:32Hello, hello.
02:33Let me see, Bill.
02:34There he is.
02:35There you go.
02:36Yes!
02:37CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
02:39And there's someone else.
02:43This singer-songwriter broke every record in the book with her sold-out era store, and now she's back with her 12th album, The Life of a Showgirl.
02:51It's the biggest pop star on the planet.
02:53Please welcome Taylor Swift!
02:55CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
02:57So nice to see you all, and there's a lot to congratulate Taylor Swift about.
03:25But the one that I feel I ought to graduate is the new bit of finger jewellery.
03:30The hardware upgrade?
03:31Yes!
03:32Check it out!
03:33CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
03:35CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
03:37CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
03:41CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
03:43Just watch it like it's a TV.
03:47I thought Greta was going to get out one of those things.
03:51It was.
03:52It was her favourite show other than the paper.
03:54Here's just a very quick reminder of the engagement announcement that broke the internet.
03:59What is it, 35 million likes or something that photograph got.
04:02Oh, my God.
04:03And is that the actual proposal?
04:05It is, actually.
04:06So he really crushed it when it came to surprising me because we had actually filmed a podcast episode.
04:15He has a podcast called New Heights.
04:16Yeah.
04:17And we...
04:19Oh, yeah.
04:20Great.
04:21We've got some Americans.
04:22We've got...
04:23Yes, fantastic.
04:24So we filmed the podcast for about three or four hours or whatever.
04:28And meanwhile, behind his house, he was having the whole back garden turned into this.
04:35Wow.
04:36And one of the things that he put in there very strategically was a wall of hedges that weren't there before.
04:43And inside the hedges was my tour photographer hiding in bushes that had not previously been there.
04:49It was...
04:50You went all out.
04:51Ten out of ten.
04:52Oh, people are now going, oh, Jesus.
04:53I was going to propose this weekend.
04:55What's the point?
04:56For everyone now.
04:57That is amazing.
04:58Take note.
04:59Yeah.
05:00It's really fun that we actually have the exact moment.
05:02Yeah.
05:03Well, congratulations to you.
05:04And Cillian Murphy, congratulations to you.
05:06You went and won an Oscar last night.
05:08Oh, yeah.
05:12Last year.
05:13Cheers for that.
05:15This is a great core.
05:18You know exactly what I'm like.
05:19Cheers.
05:20It's a happy core.
05:21Congratulations.
05:22Cheers, everybody.
05:23Cheers.
05:24Cheers.
05:25Congratulations.
05:26That's a serious laugh.
05:27It's true.
05:28Was it after that Oscar win that you then met Taylor Swift?
05:33Yeah.
05:34We were at a party.
05:36I had the whole gang and my family and my kids.
05:40I don't think my kids were legally allowed to be there.
05:43Really?
05:44I don't know, but they were delightful.
05:45Your sons are the future of our world.
05:49Oh.
05:50They were such great conversationalists.
05:52They were interesting and interested.
05:54Like, that's the real accomplishment is if you can...
05:56I think...
05:57They're here, aren't they?
05:58Yeah.
05:59One of them is here, yeah.
06:00Yeah, Aaron.
06:01Yeah.
06:02There was one clap.
06:03I got it.
06:04There he is.
06:05Put the camera on him.
06:06Put the camera on him.
06:07Somebody turn the camera.
06:08Where is he?
06:09Oh, there's a...
06:10Oh, no, he's not here.
06:11Maybe he's not here.
06:12They're hiding.
06:13He's not there, you can tell.
06:14Oh, my God, he's so...
06:15He is so brilliant.
06:16Oh, my God, that's...
06:17Oh, my God, that's...
06:18Oh, my God, that's great.
06:19Oh, my God, that's great.
06:20Oh, my God, that's great.
06:21I love you, ladies.
06:22If...
06:23If this was a game show, we've all just won a prize.
06:27That was easy.
06:28And, Joni-Jerli-Smith, you're unusual, I think, in that you know that you've met Taylor Swift.
06:33But you don't...
06:34I don't know why everyone's saying that.
06:35I don't remember where I met her.
06:37Because we were drunk.
06:38Oh, OK.
06:39It was at the gold party, and I remember that...
06:43No, no, no.
06:44It was at Madonna's party.
06:45Was it at Madonna's party?
06:46It was at Madonna's party.
06:47I think it was at Beyonce's party.
06:48I was at Beyonce's party, but I didn't meet you there.
06:51You weren't at Beyonce's party.
06:52I mean...
06:53You weren't at Beyonce's party.
06:54We got to link up.
06:55We got to get the group chat going.
06:56This is how I know it was at Madonna's party.
06:57I've not been invited to any of these parties.
07:00But I remember...
07:01I remember that the gossip was incredible, but I don't remember what it was.
07:06We were having a great night.
07:07Yeah.
07:08It was fantastic.
07:09And don't know.
07:10Hi...
07:11Hi, Graham.
07:12No, no, no.
07:13I...
07:14Thank you for having me.
07:15I...
07:16I...
07:17I'll bet...
07:18I'll bet good money...
07:19I'll bet good money you know Cillian Murphy.
07:22Erm...
07:23Not really.
07:24No, no, no.
07:25Er...
07:26Yes, yeah, yeah.
07:27One of my...
07:28I think my third or fourth filmed job was in a film that Cillian was the lead in.
07:32And he was...
07:33And I met you when I was, like, 19, doing my first job.
07:35And he's always been amazing.
07:36Yeah.
07:37An amazing actor, an amazing person.
07:38Yeah, I met Donald when he was doing a Martin McDonough play in the West End, the Broadway.
07:42And he was, like, magnetic back then.
07:44And still is.
07:45Back then.
07:46LAUGHTER
07:47That was very cool.
07:50You should have seen him then.
07:53Erm...
07:54Listen, we've got lots to talk about tonight, but let's start with the big one.
07:57Taylor Swift's new album, her twelfth, is The Life of a Showgirl.
08:01CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
08:03This is exciting.
08:06Here it is.
08:09This is the actual album.
08:11Erm...
08:12And you've gone all out.
08:14Look, it folds out.
08:16Yeah, there's all kinds of stuff in there.
08:18And this is cool.
08:19The...
08:20The album is the same colour as the...
08:23The glittery...
08:24Thank you for noticing.
08:25LAUGHTER
08:26Are they all like that?
08:27Or is it the collectors?
08:28They're all like that.
08:29It's...
08:30It's...
08:31I love creating vinyls that are completely unique inside and just doing different things.
08:36There's also a poem on the inside.
08:38Saw it.
08:39Saw it.
08:40Vinyl flap.
08:41And there's different poems on each variant.
08:43Erm...
08:44And if...
08:45No, I'm not going to tell about that.
08:46But they'll figure that out.
08:47There's something about the poems that's fun.
08:49Oh.
08:50OK.
08:51Yeah.
08:52Please hold.
08:53Yeah.
08:54LAUGHTER
08:55No, because I just got this, so I haven't read the poem.
08:58Now, it's out today.
08:59And it's kind of...
09:00I mean, you were writing these songs while the Era's tour was going on.
09:04Yes.
09:05I was writing it during the European leg, which was last summer.
09:08And it was actually, like, the craziest schedule that we had on the European tour.
09:12Like, um...
09:13So I was more physically exhausted than usual because it was a three-and-a-half-hour show.
09:17It's all in heels.
09:19It...
09:20It was...
09:21I was starting to sort of get sick and kind of worn down.
09:24And so I thought, I really need something to sort of spark up my imagination and creativity.
09:28And hopefully that will fuel my physical exhaustion.
09:32And it did.
09:33Because I would do, like, three shows and then I would fly to Sweden and make three songs.
09:38And then do three shows.
09:39And it was having that little, like, secret passion project behind the scenes that was...
09:44That really helped me not ever hit a wall on that tour.
09:48Wow.
09:49So...
09:50Listen, we've got a little taste of the first single on the album.
09:53The Fate of Ophelia.
09:55Here it is.
09:56You took me out of my grave and saved my heart from the fate of Ophelia.
10:06Keep it 100 on the land.
10:08You spout out.
10:09Your mind is about to be the sleepless night you've been cheating in all.
10:14The Fate of Ophelia.
10:17That was so good.
10:18That was so good.
10:19That was so good.
10:20That was so good.
10:24I couldn't have liked it more.
10:28And you know what strikes me?
10:29I remember you were on this show before and you were talking about how you write songs that are, you know, kind of in your wheelhouse.
10:36They're easy for you to sing.
10:38Mm-hm.
10:39That song sounds like more of a stretch.
10:41Am I right or wrong?
10:42Yeah, I think it's a little bit harder to sing, but I think the wheelhouse is a little bit of a bigger wheelhouse now that the Aeros tour happened.
10:48Like, I'm a little bit like, I think I could, you know, sort of do anything while running in heel.
10:56I'm just sort of like, it's given me the confidence to write like, higher choruses and jump the octave and do falsetto stuff and like, don't take a break for 35 seconds.
11:04It's like, I'm like, I don't know.
11:07I'm pretty sure I could do it now that I've done that tour.
11:10So.
11:11Let's talk about some of the other tracks on the album.
11:14Opalite is such an earworm.
11:17It's proper.
11:19It really is.
11:21My dad is excited somewhere.
11:22That's his favourite.
11:23Oh, great.
11:24So.
11:25It obviously appeals to the dad demographic.
11:26No, it doesn't.
11:27It's also, it's also.
11:28Yeah, this is great.
11:29No, it's my fiance's favourite too.
11:31Oh, OK.
11:32Yeah, but.
11:33But Opalite, I think there's a beautiful idea behind the idea of Opalite.
11:38Yeah, it's basically, I become obsessed with certain phrases or words and one of the words on my long list was Opalite because I learned that just like they can do man-made diamonds, you can do man-made opals.
11:51And it's called Opalite.
11:52And I just thought that that was such an interesting metaphor if you take it and you apply it to the fact that oftentimes in life we have to make our own happiness.
12:01It's not just there.
12:02It's not just naturally in place.
12:04We have to make our own happiness and get through life and it says like you had to make your own sunshine but now the sky is Opalite.
12:11And it's just basically like you are happy because you did that on your own.
12:15It's kind of like fake yourself happy kind of thing.
12:17Exactly.
12:18Fake it till you make it.
12:19I do that all the time.
12:20Yeah, yeah, yeah.
12:21Honestly.
12:22I believe you've done it really successfully.
12:26Write the book.
12:30And I mentioned the ears to her.
12:31I'm sure lots of people here were at that concert.
12:33It was phenomenal.
12:39It was so, so good.
12:40The thing that was...
12:41And this is not a complaint today.
12:43Wow.
12:44Yeah, I think that was Wembley.
12:45That looks like Wembley.
12:48Three and a half hours.
12:49When did you know?
12:50Was it like opening night when you realised, oh, this is three and a half hours?
12:54It was...
12:55We tried so hard to get it to be shorter than that.
12:59But I just wanted to over deliver.
13:04You know?
13:05I really wanted people to get more than they expected.
13:08It just really felt like something that I had to do.
13:11Because I'm like, I know these tickets are going to be hard to get.
13:14I didn't know how hard they would be to get.
13:16And people are going to like...
13:18I don't know.
13:19People have lives and priorities.
13:21And if they're going to dedicate any part of those lives to coming to this big show, to packing stadiums like this,
13:26I want to over deliver on production, over deliver on the length of it,
13:30the exertion, the kind of surprises they're seeing.
13:35And I'm really...
13:36I'm endlessly proud of feeling like we achieved that.
13:39Oh, you so did.
13:40You really, really did.
13:43And I'm sure people were there.
13:45I thought...
13:47It was so lovely being in the stadium.
13:49The atmosphere, you knew that in that stadium,
13:52like 90,000 people, nothing bad was happening.
13:55No one was having a fight.
13:56There was no argy-bargy kicking off.
13:58Everyone was having the loveliest time.
14:00It was the loveliest time.
14:01Yeah.
14:02And I would hear all these stories about people making friends.
14:05Yeah.
14:06And the whole friendship bracelet thing was pretty beautiful too,
14:08where people would make friendship bracelets and they would trade them with each other
14:11and they'd meet each other.
14:12They are the friendship bracelets.
14:13Yeah.
14:14And it was kind of the sweet thing that the fans did on their own.
14:16We didn't, like, market this.
14:18This wasn't, like, a thing that we did.
14:20Um, or else I would have invested in beads.
14:23So, uh...
14:26Taylor, we'll talk some more as we go on.
14:29Uh, but for the moment, just a reminder that the album,
14:32The Life of a Showgirl, is out now.
14:34Uh, right.
14:35Yes.
14:36We're getting it.
14:37We're getting it.
14:38Uh, Cillian Murphy.
14:39Cillian Murphy brings us an extraordinary new film.
14:43It is called Steve.
14:44It is in select cinemas and available globally on Netflix now.
14:48And to give us a taste, here's a bit of the trailer.
14:51So, they're asking everyone to describe themselves in three words.
14:55Okay.
14:56Very, very tired.
15:01Focused.
15:02Cheeky.
15:04Sex doll busted.
15:06Uh, angry and bored.
15:11These are extraordinarily complex young people.
15:15Please tell me, you know, it's not alright to be out here at, like, breakfast time getting fully baked.
15:21Stevie dick.
15:22This is the thing.
15:23You can't just casually call me a dick.
15:28How you doing?
15:29I've been worried about you.
15:33All I want for you is to just speak to us.
15:35Because you're not alone, shite.
15:37I'm sorry.
15:39How about you, Steve?
15:41Let's talk about you.
15:44Steve, you can't do it all.
15:46Okay.
15:47Alright, I'm here for you.
15:49Perhaps there's a limit.
15:51You don't love me!
15:55Why do you fucking give a shit?
16:03It really is an extraordinary film and brilliant, brilliant performances in it.
16:07And people might know Max Porter.
16:10Yeah.
16:11And this is based on his book, Shy.
16:12Yes.
16:13Which, apparently, you read and thought that isn't filmable.
16:16Yeah.
16:17Max and me are pals and he gave me the, like, the proof of the book.
16:20Yeah.
16:21I was very lucky to read it before it came out.
16:22And it's, like, this beautiful, compassionate piece of work.
16:25But it's all inside of Shy's head.
16:27It's like a stream of consciousness from, you know, inside of his character's head.
16:31And I thought, like, well, some books shouldn't be adapted.
16:34And then we were, like, we'd made two pieces of work together and then we thought,
16:39we were trying to figure out what to do next.
16:42And then he had this brilliant idea to kind of spin the story on its axis
16:46and to kind of adapt the world of the book rather than the book itself.
16:49So there was this minor character in it who was Steve.
16:52And he kind of began to show the...
16:55It all happens over 24 hours.
16:57And he began to show, like, you know, what happens over that day
17:00through Steve's eyes and then overlay it with Shy's experience.
17:04And who is Steve?
17:05So Steve, I guess, is a very overworked, underpaid, quite broken,
17:10trying to do the right thing, headmaster of a kind of reform school
17:15in the 90s in Britain.
17:17And it's interesting you decided to keep it in the 90s.
17:19Yeah.
17:20Why did you decide to not bring it to now?
17:22I mean, well, there's a few reasons.
17:25The music was so good then.
17:27And, like, Max is obsessed with drum and bass.
17:32And he wrote the book, Listen to Drum and Bass.
17:35And I was 20 in 96.
17:38My kids and Aaron, he's, like, 18 now.
17:41And also we could tell a story where we didn't have to deal with
17:44smartphones and the internet and all that.
17:46Yeah, yeah, yeah.
17:47And you talk about music in this film.
17:49Yeah.
17:50You know, you've got a 90s drum and bass.
17:51Was that your...
17:52Because you took music very seriously.
17:53Was that your music?
17:55It...
17:56I love drum and bass.
17:57I always find it really difficult to dance to.
17:59To...
18:00Do you know?
18:01There's a lot going on.
18:02It's very...
18:03Thrashing.
18:04Yeah.
18:05It's all that polyrhythms in it.
18:06I could never...
18:07I was never that guy, no.
18:08But...
18:09I did listen to it and...
18:10Yeah.
18:11Can I say you took your music seriously?
18:13You were in a band and not just...
18:14You know, and often people were in bands.
18:16Did...
18:17You got a five-album deal.
18:18What?
18:19Well...
18:20Yeah, technically we did, yeah.
18:22Yeah.
18:23What does that mean?
18:24I mean...
18:25Yeah, we were kids and we...
18:27Yeah, we got offered this record deal.
18:29I don't know why I'm telling you.
18:30No, no, no, no, no.
18:32I didn't have a lot.
18:33Yeah.
18:34So enjoy your chart success.
18:36It could have been me.
18:37Five albums is too long a term.
18:39Yeah, I thought it's too long a term.
18:40Is it now?
18:41They'll just sign us up young for five albums.
18:43That's it.
18:44That was part of it.
18:45Because my brother's in the band and he was only 18.
18:47My parents went, no.
18:48Oh, is that...
18:49Was it your parents?
18:50Because I got...
18:51Because normally you would pick...
18:52Like the first bit of success you find, you cling on to it.
18:54But you turned it down.
18:56Well, it was...
18:57They wouldn't let him...
18:58They wouldn't let him ruin his life.
18:59So they allowed me to go and potentially ruin...
19:01But then we all just disbanded and it didn't happen.
19:04And this was Mr. Green Jeans?
19:05Sons of Mr. Green Jeans.
19:06Sons of Mr. Green Jeans.
19:07Yeah.
19:08So good.
19:09Now, is that the bus station in Cork?
19:12Wow.
19:13That's the bus station in Cork City, yeah.
19:14Oh, yeah, I thought it was.
19:15I don't know...
19:16That's fantastic.
19:17They're good.
19:18I mean, I don't know.
19:20Is that building still there anymore?
19:21It is, yeah.
19:22Cork people might not...
19:23It is?
19:24It is, yeah, yeah.
19:25Is that lovely old...
19:26That I don't know.
19:27I haven't been inside for some time.
19:28Don't get the bus anymore.
19:30Who do you think I am?
19:31Who do you think I am?
19:34And actually, talking of you, Greta, you were in a band.
19:37Oh, really?
19:38Uh-huh.
19:39What?
19:40No, you were.
19:41You took music really seriously.
19:42I did?
19:43Yeah.
19:44Um, so, Killian and Taylor, I am also a musician.
19:48Well, no, we've got an adorable...
19:50I want to know more.
19:51Yeah, too.
19:52No, this isn't quite a radio tour, but it's kind of there.
19:55You're very young, and you're doing a gig.
19:57Mm-hmm.
19:58Is this a shopping mall you're in?
19:59Yeah.
20:00Now, here you are.
20:01How old are you here?
20:02Oh, my God.
20:03Yes!
20:05I think I was 11.
20:07Wow.
20:08And I'm singing, you can see, the Vocal Power Institute.
20:11Yes.
20:12In front of Mervyn's, um, in a mall.
20:16That's incredible.
20:17Is it Christmas time?
20:19Uh, I hope so, for that answer.
20:23But it just doesn't look like there's any Christmas decorations or anything.
20:26Yeah, no.
20:27You look like you're dressed in the French Resistance.
20:28Yeah, I know.
20:29Great outfits.
20:30Great outfits are...
20:31They've been happening since for a long time, I see.
20:33Yeah.
20:34I think I was doing a cover of New York, New York, which is...
20:38It all makes sense.
20:39It's amazing.
20:40In LA, it's Christmas for only one person.
20:43And there I am.
20:45So, it's a whole theme.
20:46And again, what happened to that dream?
20:49Uh, what do you mean?
20:50Well...
20:52No, that's...
20:53That's just what I'm doing.
20:57Uh, aspiring...
20:58I'm here to announce my, uh...
21:00My album.
21:01Yeah.
21:06Yeah.
21:08Taylor didn't know that there's some competition.
21:11Yeah.
21:12Yeah.
21:13It's the past life of a showgirl.
21:14Yeah.
21:15Exactly.
21:16A Christmas album.
21:17Yes.
21:18That nobody wanted.
21:19A spectacular event.
21:20Well, look at you now.
21:21Our next movie tonight is Greta Lee and Jodie Turner-Smith together in the new Disney blockbuster, Tron Aries.
21:28It's in cinemas from the 10th of October.
21:30That is next Friday.
21:31So, a lot of people...
21:32Yeah.
21:33...love Tron.
21:34Yes.
21:35The previous two Tron films.
21:36Oh, my God.
21:37So, what's happening in the Tron world now?
21:40Take it away, somebody.
21:41Hey.
21:42Okay.
21:43Well, normally, this is about, like, humans are always going into the grid, right?
21:46You...
21:47That iconic first film, 1982.
21:49Some of us weren't born yet.
21:52But...
21:53You know, Jeff Bridges goes into the grid.
21:57He goes into the computer, which was so...
21:59And it was also...
22:00The 1982 film was the first time that any film had computer-generated images.
22:04Which, at the time, was absolutely...
22:06They were like, this is not filmmaking.
22:07Yeah.
22:08They were disqualified from the Oscars that year.
22:10Yeah.
22:11Because it was considered cheating to use computers.
22:12Really?
22:13Yeah.
22:14To use special effects.
22:15So, it really...
22:16It really changed the face of our business as well.
22:17So, it's, like, incredibly iconic.
22:19Yeah.
22:20And then the second film was scored by Daft Punk.
22:22Again, just, like, visually so incredible.
22:24And now...
22:25We are coming out of the grid into the real world.
22:29Sweet Jesus.
22:30That's amazing.
22:31And by we, I mean me.
22:33We've got a clip.
22:36This is the two of you as Eve and Athena.
22:38And, uh, sensing here that you don't get along.
22:42Time to get back to the grid.
22:45Leave alone!
22:46Move alone!
22:48Or, uh...
22:52Umm...
22:53Find him!
22:56long.
22:57Blah!
23:02Ah!
23:07Ah!
23:08Ah!
23:09Ah!
23:10Ah!
23:11Ah!
23:12Ah!
23:13You're very persistent, user.
23:25Ooh, what happens next?
23:27CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
23:31Anything could happen. Anything.
23:33And, Greta, you...
23:37You know, you kick ass in this film.
23:38Yeah.
23:39So you decide you are going to get in shape for this film.
23:41Actually, I was reminded of something.
23:44Taylor, I had heard that there's something you do
23:47to prepare for your tours.
23:49Yes. It's horrible.
23:51Treadmill while singing.
23:53Doing the whole set list while running on the treadmill.
23:54Yeah, yeah. It's one of the worst things I did.
23:56Three and a half hours.
23:57It worked, but it's incredibly...
23:59It worked. It didn't work for me.
24:01Oh, my God!
24:03I tried that and failed.
24:05And I don't think it's a spoiler, but there's a...
24:08I have to run a lot in this movie.
24:11And there's a difference between, you know, an athlete...
24:14I have to play a human person who is running for their life.
24:18So when you read a script,
24:22you have to pay attention for things like running for your life,
24:25running, and how many times that appears in a script.
24:27Yeah, yeah.
24:28Because, actually, that's tiring, turns out.
24:31It is.
24:33And you can do all the things to train and prepare,
24:35and we certainly did to get into top physical form to do this movie.
24:42And we got all the trainers.
24:44I had, you know, the guy who trains Brad Pitt, all the Chris's and me.
24:49All the Chris's and you.
24:50Yes.
24:51That's so good.
24:52Wow.
24:53And, you know, former ex-Navy SEAL,
24:55and then we realised,
24:58because you were also doing your thing,
25:00and we looked good.
25:01I'm in my 40s.
25:02I had abs for the first time ever.
25:05Wow.
25:06Nice.
25:08OK?
25:09Shout out to Al.
25:10However, we realised none of it would be shown.
25:15We were covered head to toe.
25:18Deeply upsetting.
25:19Yes.
25:20And I even...
25:22I mean, all that hard work, can you imagine?
25:24I mean, with the Chris's and...
25:26Sometimes it's OK to object to our women, OK?
25:28Yes.
25:29It genuinely was so upsetting after our first fittings,
25:34our light suit fittings.
25:36We...
25:37I even pitched to the director a fight scene
25:41where our characters could tear each other's clothes off.
25:44And strategically, sort of, like, rip Athena's stomach.
25:49Can you show...
25:50Can you show the work?
25:51Three of the abs.
25:52Please.
25:53I didn't go for it, unfortunately.
25:55And this was not about sex, it was strictly vanity.
25:57Yeah.
25:58I am working so hard.
26:00So hard.
26:01So hard.
26:02Someone see this eight pack.
26:03Yeah.
26:04I know.
26:04But now you know, so at least there's someone.
26:07You got the word out.
26:08I'm sorry.
26:12I mean, every step.
26:13You guys know.
26:13You ready?
26:14Yeah.
26:15You...
26:16Donal, you have been through the physical rigors of big fantasy
26:21movies and things, because you were in Star Wars,
26:24Harry Potter...
26:25Yeah.
26:26And Black Mirror.
26:27Now, Black Mirror, you really suffered for your art.
26:28That was crazy.
26:30Yeah.
26:31Yeah.
26:32That was crazy.
26:33Thank you, Taylor.
26:34It was crazy.
26:35I thought about that for months.
26:36So good.
26:37Yeah, so basically it was this was Channel 4 Black Mirror. This is before it went to Netflix and got the big bucks
26:44So this was quite low-budget and I am in it at the beginning and then my character dies
26:50And then he comes back as a sort of a replicant of himself and the decision was made away from me
26:54that he should he appears for the first time from the bathroom
26:58naked and
26:59The decision was made by somebody else that he should be also hairless from the neck from the neck down
27:04And I was like sci-fi baby. I mean, how are we going to go about this?
27:08And they I just got back to my trailer at lunchtime. There was a chicken salad and an electric razor
27:22Yeah, and and I probably had an eight-pack, but I can't remember. Yeah
27:27And now Killian you are such a big fan of Tron. Tell us what you did. Oh
27:31Oh, yes, I asked to be in the Tron. Which one was it the one but I can
27:39Legacy, yeah, yeah, so I was in that briefly I did like one day in it. Yes
27:43Because I was such a big fan
27:45Uncle Dillinger here
27:47And then Taylor am I writing the video for bad blood the bit is is a bit of that a Tron reference
28:04Yeah, we made a little reference to it with I did a music video for the song bad blood with Joseph Kahn and yeah Jessica Alba
28:11Yeah, she had one of that. We've got a clip. Let's say
28:15A little clip of you doing your Tron
28:17Oh, yeah
28:19Yes, it's giving Athena, right? Look out. She's so amazing
28:28Wow
28:30Hey
28:32I think they might have based Athena off of this music video because I'm looking at it and I'm like wait a minute
28:38It might have based Athena off of this music video
28:40It would be an honor. Yeah, that was one of my favorite directors to work with Joseph Kahn and Taylor
28:45We should celebrate because of course, you now own that video
28:47Oh
29:05Okay
29:07Basically see my big long lifelong dream came true recently which was that I was able to buy all of my music
29:14All of my music videos
29:20Also the artwork the album covers
29:22It's everything it's so it's it's your entire catalog and thankfully they weren't they didn't split it up first
29:28They didn't like sell it off sell the music videos these people the album artwork these people
29:32Um this album did this it thankfully was all still one acquisition
29:39But thank you to everyone who came to the heiress tour. That's why I was able to
29:42Make that happen
29:44Make that happen
29:46But I love I love the story because you imagine
29:48It's so fucking cool I'm sorry
29:50It's crazy to still talk about
29:52Thank you and you know like this is that you you've changed the business by what you've done. Thank you
29:57I mean, this is this is so cool. It's
30:00Thank you. I feel exactly the same way
30:02You're just like
30:04But I love that everyone's so pleased for you
30:06Thank you
30:08I made it everyone's problem
30:10It's like I I very you know
30:12I've I have this policy where I do not respond to like rage baiting people who want to like try to like provoke me in in a multitude of ways
30:21I don't respond to stuff
30:23But when some this pissed me off so much
30:26Yes that I that I did say what was going on in my life
30:30Which was that all of the music I had made for my first six albums was sold out from under me?
30:35I had been trying to buy them for a very long time I didn't think I should be given them I know that they're worth money
30:41I want you to buy them at a premium was willing to was never given the opportunity to and so I ended up
30:48Re-recording and re-releasing
30:50Four of those six albums
30:52And I think that that was a huge part of why I was able to get them back the fans really got behind them and championed this entire cause
30:59I could not be more grateful
31:01I still can't believe it happened. It's it's the craziest thing ever and thank you for bringing that up and for caring
31:06And I like
31:08I like the idea that you know you bought it
31:12You bought it all back from a big kind of corporate entity and you imagine there would be an army of lawyers talking to another army of lawyers
31:18But that is not how it went down
31:20No, I sent in my mom and my brother
31:22Were you on the phone? Were you on the phone? Were you asleep?
31:28No, I so basically it was my music was owned by a company called Shamrock Capital
31:35We had to try to figure out how to convince them to sell a very lucrative
31:40Entity to us even though it was still making them loads of money
31:44Yeah
31:45And so I was like the only people for the job are the people who have known me my entire life who know this entire journey I've been on
31:51Who have been supporting me and who I work with every day they both work with me and they are like the smartest people I know
31:58And also the most compassionate the kindest the people who could tell the story of what we've been through as a family
32:04So they went in and they got my music back for me
32:08Very good
32:09Thank you
32:10Thank you
32:11Thank you
32:12Thank you
32:13Thank you
32:14By the end of the night Jodie and me are going to be gossiping on occasion
32:17You know what I heard about him
32:19Girl I heard that same thing but worse
32:21I think we started there actually before
32:23Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
32:24I was like gross
32:25Listen we move on to Donald Gleeson's latest work
32:27It's a very funny new sitcom
32:29It's called the paper all episodes are streaming on
32:32Yeah
32:33Yeah
32:34Cheers everybody
32:37Cheers
32:38Cheers
32:39Cheers
32:40Thank you very much
32:41Cheers
32:42Thank you
32:43All episodes are streaming on Sky and Now
32:46And now this show people have heard about it
32:49They know that it is related in some way to the American office
32:53Yes
32:54Discuss
32:55Discuss you say
32:56Well tell us
32:57At length
32:58Yeah
32:59Basically it's the documentary crew from the American office
33:01Yeah
33:02All these years later go looking for Dunder Mifflin
33:04Which was the paper company that they all worked in
33:06And they kind of run out of road but end up in this place in the Midwest
33:10A place called Toledo, Ohio
33:11And they find an old sort of newspaper that's fallen on hard times
33:17A local newspaper and it's really not doing well
33:19And they're sharing half the floor with a toilet paper company who are doing way better than them
33:24And just as they arrive to film this newspaper and a new editor-in-chief arrives who really wants to make them a great paper again because they're really bad and he wants to make them matter
33:39We've got a clip
33:40This is you trying to impress your new bosses
33:43Marv and some of his team are working on this floor while his offices are being painted
33:48Which means he can see everything that we're doing
33:51We're enjoying this meeting everyone's sort of nodding nodding a little bit
33:54Okay
33:55Yes
33:56Right
33:57Yes I am actively agreeing with you
33:58Now you act like you came up with another good idea
34:00Put up your hand
34:01Put up your hand
34:02Yes
34:03Yes
34:04Yes
34:05That is a great idea
34:06I'm going to write that down
34:07Does that look like I'm writing it down?
34:08Oh
34:09Good
34:10Good
34:11Good
34:12This is weird
34:13Maybe we should just have a real meeting
34:14Now Adalola you're pointing
34:15You're pointing
34:16And everyone's nodding
34:17And I am agreeing
34:18And Barry you stand up
34:19You stand up
34:20I think everyone's nodding now
34:21We're all nodding at Barry
34:22Yes
34:23Now Detrick you're going to jump out of your chair with enthusiasm
34:24You're going to high five Oscar
34:25Go
34:26Yes
34:27And
34:28Oh fantastic
34:29Fantastic
34:30Fantastic
34:31We're thumbs upping
34:32We're thumbs upping
34:33And we're nodding
34:34Feel the energy
34:35And we're smiling
34:44It's properly properly funny
34:45And I heard you talking about
34:47As an actor
34:48How weird it is to then be
34:50In a kind of mockumentary
34:52That's hard as an actor
34:53Oh yeah
34:54You spend your life being told
34:55Not to look straight down the lens
34:56And somebody will scold you
34:58If you do that
34:59And they have to scrap the take
35:00And then all of a sudden
35:01You're on a job
35:02And they're encouraging you
35:03To look down the lens more
35:04And kind of
35:05Have a real relationship
35:06With the camera
35:07Which is part of what made
35:08The UK office great
35:09And made the US office great
35:11And I think it's part of this
35:12The people
35:13Everyone does it in a different way
35:14It's kind of really cool
35:15Is it something you had to learn
35:16If you know what I mean
35:17Oh yeah I was terrible at it
35:18Yeah yeah
35:19I wasn't doing it enough
35:20And Chelsea
35:21Who was in it
35:22Who's fantastic
35:23Plays Mare
35:24They told her after like three episodes
35:25You need to stop looking at the camera so much
35:27And they told me you need to look at the camera a lot more
35:29Yeah
35:30Can I just say Donald's magnetic in that show
35:32I love that
35:33I love that show
35:34I want to say to him
35:35I'm so happy it's coming back
35:36And his character is like
35:37It's so good
35:38The loveliest most romanticising character
35:40He like romanticises his life
35:42And it's really sweet and beautiful
35:44And also I don't think that you just sound American
35:46You seem American
35:47I know
35:48Your accent is so good
35:49You are American
35:50You have to leave that in the show
35:51Yes
35:52Your numbers are about to skyrocket
35:53Thank you Taylor Swift very very much
35:55I know
35:56Can I also say
35:57Thank you Killian
35:58Thank you everybody
35:59Thank you Killian
36:00Thank you Killian
36:01Thank you
36:02No but
36:03You started it
36:04Thank you
36:05Can I also say it's just worth watching for Donald's dancing alone
36:06Oh my god
36:07Yes absolutely
36:08Absolutely
36:09What
36:10Yes
36:11I'm hoping to get in the Taylor Swift music video
36:13I'm hoping
36:14There you go
36:15Did you
36:16Have you always been able to do the American accent
36:18Why is it so good?
36:20So good
36:21Thank you
36:22That's very nice
36:23I'm terrible at accents normally
36:24And I've worked really hard on that
36:25So I'm happy it worked
36:26Yeah
36:27Thank you
36:28And I'm wondering
36:30This is the first time you've ever lived in LA
36:33You moved to LA for this
36:34Yeah
36:35I was over there for like four or five months
36:37I was over there
36:38Tim Key was also over there
36:39He's a fantastic actor
36:40He's a very funny man
36:41So yeah
36:42There's a few of us away from home on that
36:43It was amazing
36:44Because you're like working in an old
36:46Like the old studio
36:47Universal Studios
36:48And you go in past the fake New York street
36:50And all the rest of it
36:51And then every morning
36:52You're going to work in this place
36:53Where they've built an office
36:54It was beautiful
36:55Yeah
36:56And the good news is
36:57You can stay in LA
36:58Because am I right
36:59It's been recommissioned
37:00Yes
37:01Season 2
37:02Yeah
37:03Thank you very much
37:04Thank you
37:05Yeah
37:06Very nice
37:07Yeah yeah
37:08We're really happy about it
37:09Yeah
37:10So I think we go back
37:11January or February
37:12We go back
37:13And we do another season
37:14Yeah
37:15It's Killian
37:16So there's a movie
37:19Yeah
37:20So is the movie done or
37:22Yeah
37:23So it's done
37:24Yes
37:25And now here's the thing
37:26I love the fact that
37:27Peaky Blinders were so successful
37:28That that haircut
37:29Tommy's haircut
37:30In the early series
37:31It kind of took off
37:32It became like
37:33You know it became a thing
37:34I mean it's so disgusting really
37:36But it's everywhere
37:39Because of you
37:40Yeah but you know the story
37:41Behind that is
37:42It's to prevent
37:43Lice infestation
37:45Wait what?
37:46How?
37:47Because if you have no hair
37:48The lice can't
37:49But there's still all that up on top
37:50They know what that is up there
37:52But maybe they can't
37:53They don't know how to travel
37:54You get like a 60% better chance
37:56Of not getting them I guess
37:57Yeah
37:58Talk to Donal
37:59I mean yeah
38:00In my trailer just doing the thing
38:01Yeah
38:02That's amazing
38:03And when is the movie going to be in the world?
38:05Next year
38:06Next year
38:07Next year
38:08Okay
38:09Alright
38:10And
38:11And
38:12Because you're here Taylor
38:13I've got to ask you
38:14Is next year the wedding year?
38:16Is that when it's happening?
38:17Oh you'll know
38:18So you're going big?
38:22I just mean that I was going to invite you to it
38:32If you're inviting me it's very big
38:33It's huge
38:35I think I can see Taylor
38:42Well I'm sure it'll be a fabulous day
38:43Are you in the middle of planning it all now?
38:45No
38:46I just am doing the album thing now
38:49Which is a big thing
38:50Yes
38:51And then I think the wedding is what happens after that
38:55In the scheme of the planning
38:57But I'm really I'm you know
38:59I'm so excited about it
39:00I'm just like
39:02Like
39:03I know it's going to be fun to plan
39:05Um
39:06Because I think the only stressful weddings
39:08Are the ones where you have a small amount
39:10And you and people are on the bubble
39:12Yeah
39:13Right?
39:14Yes
39:15And you have to evaluate or assess your relationship with them
39:18Yeah
39:19To see if they should be there
39:20Yeah
39:21Okay
39:22This is why you're saying
39:23Anyone I've ever talked to
39:24Thanks Greta
39:25Yeah
39:26Hey Greta
39:27There's no bubble
39:28You'll be there
39:29I'll take it
39:31No it's like
39:32Oh we have to have hung out eight times
39:34Yeah
39:35It's like you're on the bubble
39:36Yeah
39:37We've hung out five times
39:38You don't have to think about it
39:40It's going to be fun
39:41I shouldn't have said any of that
39:43Well listen
39:44Seriously we just wish you all the best
39:46Thank you
39:47Thank you so much

42:24I'll love you, till my last breath
