00:00It's the early 600s, a hot and scorching day in the Arabian Peninsula.
00:05The little girl was trying to understand what her father was doing.
00:09Apparently, he was digging a hole in the middle of the desert.
00:12Despite being confused, she was very happy that she could finally spend some time with
00:16her father for the first time, for she had never received any love from him until then.
00:22At one point, she even tried to help him dig the hole.
00:25As it was getting deeper and deeper, her curiosity was growing too.
00:28Were they going to play a game?
00:30How is it going to be?
00:33As she was trying to figure out what was going to happen, with a sudden push, she found herself
00:39at the bottom of the hole.
00:44It was her father who pushed her, and without looking at her daughter's terrified face, he
00:49quickly started throwing dirt on her.
00:59This horrible scene is from the Arabian Peninsula before Islam, from the period of cahiliyyah,
01:06a period of ignorance.
01:09This practice was sadly very common in those dark times, as girls were considered a source
01:14of shame.
01:15They were buried alive in the most brutal way by their fathers.
01:20The very people from whom they expected the most love.
01:24But it wasn't only that.
01:25Many innocent people were being killed in blood feuds.
01:28The orphans were pushed around.
01:29The strong were oppressing the weak.
01:31There was no law or justice.
01:34People were so misguided, they had gone so far astray that they were making idols from
01:38stone and worshipped those same idols they had made with their own hands.
01:43They were expecting help and protection from them.
01:46The spiritual atmosphere was covered with dark clouds.
01:49The hearts were filled with violence, and the minds with ignorance.
01:54It was as if the souls were gasping for breath.
01:57They were suffering the agony of death.
01:59At such a time, Allah would send a light of guidance and turn all that darkness into light.
02:06That light was Prophet Muhammad .
02:12The year is 608.
02:14Before receiving prophethood, as time went by, Muhammad became more and more recognized
02:20and known for his trustworthiness and good morals.
02:23No one ever saw him lie even once.
02:26And he became one of the most beloved people in the society.
02:29So much so that he was given the nickname Muhammadul Ameen .
02:35One day, his tribe, the Quraysh, was trying to repair the Kaaba with great effort.
02:40When it must finally finish, the clans couldn't agree on who should put the sacred Hajj al-Eswed
02:45stone in its place.
02:46Everyone believed that their family was worthy of this honor.
02:50Because of the heated arguments, they came to a point where they were taking oaths to
02:53kill each other.
02:54Then, with their unanimous agreement, Muhammadul Ameen acted as a judge in the matter and resolved
03:00the issue and peacefully ended the conflict.
03:02He made them put Hajj al-Eswet on a piece of cloth and the leaders of each clan carried
03:06the cloth by holding one end of it.
03:09Finally, he took the stone and put it in its place himself.
03:13Everyone was very pleased with this decision.
03:17The year 610.
03:19The Prophet, peace be upon him, was approaching the age of 40.
03:22At a time when persecution and injustice became more severe than Mecca, he wanted to leave
03:26the cruel idol worshippers behind and be alone with his master.
03:30He could no longer tolerate what was happening in this city.
03:33To a certain extent, he was going to retreat from society and regularly go up to Mount Nur.
03:38As he stayed in the cave of Hira upon the mountain, contemplating his Lord's creation and praying
03:44to him for months, each day his love for his creator increased more and more.
03:50On one of those days, suddenly he encountered a being he had never seen before.
03:56It was Jibril, the angel of revelation.
04:03And the first ayah of the last true book, the Quran, was sent down to the earth.
04:08After receiving the first revelation and prophethood, he began inviting people to Islam, starting
04:33with the ones that were closest to him.
04:35And the first woman to believe was his wife Khatija.
04:38The first man to believe in him was Abu Bakr.
04:40And the first child was Ali .
04:42In the first years of revelation, the invitation to Islam was done in secret.
04:47In this way, the Muslims could be protected from danger.
04:49They were believers from all walks of life.
04:52From men, women, from the poor, the rich, the free, the slaves, adults, children, etc.
04:58And over time, their number became close to 40.
05:02By the end of the third year, the Prophet stood on Safa Hill and openly explained Islam
05:07to the people of Quraish.
05:09The year 614.
05:20The disbelievers who had been practicing the religion of their ancestors for many years
05:25were not happy at all with this new religion.
05:27So they did their best to prevent the spread of Islam.
05:30They saw it as a loss of power and authority, a fight for dominance between tribes.
05:34And that's why they preferred not to listen and ignore what was being said.
05:38To them, this religion was unacceptable because it was changing all their perceptions.
05:43Could it be possible for black and white, rich and poor, noble and common man, slave and
05:48free to be equal?
05:49How could all these be called brothers and sisters?
05:51To give value to the daughters?
05:53To treat women as human beings?
05:55To give them the right to have a say?
05:57To have an opinion?
05:58To say, paradise is under the feet of mothers?
06:01These concepts were very foreign to them at that time.
06:04They were saying, where did this new religion come from?
06:07Because they saw Islam as the religion of the slaves and the poor,
06:10they increased their oppression more and more.
06:12They were trying all kinds of ways to turn the believers away from their faith.
06:17They were insulting them, beating them, torturing them.
06:21The Muslims suffered the most cruel torments just because they said, Allah is my master.
06:27And there is no God but Allah.
06:30The year 616.
06:32As a result of the oppression against them, a group of 101 Muslims migrated to the Abyssinia
06:37so that they could leave their religion in peace.
06:40Before them, 19 of the Muslims had also gone there.
06:43But the Prophet and some of his companions stayed in Mecca.
06:46The King of Abyssinia, Najashi said that the Bible and the Torah foretold the coming of Prophet Muhammad.
06:52And that he promised the Muslims to live peacefully in his country.
06:56Despite all the oppression, the number of Muslims was growing.
06:59Two people who were feared by everyone in Mecca also joined the believers and became Muslims.
07:05Hamza and Umar .
07:07This increased the strength and courage of the believers even more.
07:10For the first time, together, Muslims went out into the streets and openly declared Islam.
07:16This was a sign that the balances were beginning to shift.
07:19As Towards Eternity, we need your support.
07:21We are a charity organization that aims to spread the message of Islam to the entire world in 10 languages.
07:26With your support, you can help people convert to Islam, give up harams, start praying, wear hijab, learn to read the Quran and so on.
07:34And get your share from all these good deeds insha'Allah.
07:36Donate to Towards Eternity and don't miss this golden opportunity.
07:40The year 617.
07:43As the number of Muslims increased, the rage of the idol worshippers increased too.
07:47The Quraysh tried every possible way to make the Prophet and his followers give up.
07:51He completely rejected all the offers to abandon his cause.
07:55Such as, we will make you our richest, we will make you our leader, etc.
07:59The lies and mocking words could neither discourage the Prophet nor the people around him.
08:04Having failed to defeat them intellectually, they resorted to violence against the Muslims.
08:10And when that didn't work either, they decided to start a ruthless boycott against the family of the sons of Hashim, including Prophet Muhammad.
08:20They would neither sell nor buy anything from them.
08:23They would even prevent those who wanted to sell anything to Muslims or try to help them in any way.
08:28Without discriminating between young, old, children, women and Sikh, they left them hungry, thirsty and isolated so that they would finally give up.
08:39The year 619.
08:41The boycott was extremely cruel and exhausting.
08:44Many times, Muslims could not find any kind of food and spent many, many days in hunger.
08:49They even had to eat animal skins and tree barks to survive.
08:53When people saw that the Prophet was rejecting all material gain but rather only suffered for his cause, they couldn't deny his sincerity and started believing in him.
09:02What could stand in the way of a truth that illuminates and satisfies the soul, heart and mind?
09:08After three long years, the boycott came to an end.
09:12This was a huge relief for all the Muslims and the Prophet .
09:16But in the same year, he lost his two important sources of support who had stood by him in every one of his difficulties, his uncle Abu Talib and his beloved wife Khatija.
09:28That's why this year was called the year of sorrow.
09:34The year 620.
09:36Despite all the sadness, our Prophet knew that this was a world of tests and he didn't stop doing his duty even for one moment.
09:45It was up to Allah to grant faith and guidance to his nation.
09:48So he focused directly on his part, that is, conveying the message.
09:53So he went to one of the biggest cities in that region, Taif, with Zayd, to invite them to Islam.
09:59But on the order of their leaders, the people of Taif started throwing stones at them.
10:04For 2.5 kilometers, a distance that took more than 3,000 steps, they were viciously pelted with stones, spit on and insulted.
10:14From Taif, where he had gone to save the eternal lives of its people, Prophet Muhammad came back to Mecca, covered in blood and wounds.
10:23After going through sorrow after sorrow, Allah granted a great blessing to our Prophet , and elevated him to Miraj.
10:33With Miraj, Allah showed him that he valued his messenger in a unique way and gave him one of the greatest gifts, the five daily prayers.
10:42Steadfast in his struggle of delivering the message, Rasulullah continued to visit the tents during the Hajj season.
10:48And finally, a group of young men from Medina accepted Islam at Aqaba.
10:53The year 621.
10:55Musab bin Umayr, who was one of the leading companions of the Prophet , was sent to Medina as a Qur'an teacher.
11:02This laid the foundations of Islam there, and many people started to take shahada.
11:07A new era was about to begin.
11:11The year 622.
11:13It was no longer possible to practice Islam in Mecca.
11:16The oppression became unbearable.
11:18Because of this, Muslims began to migrate to Medina in separate groups.
11:22But the Prophet was going to migrate last, because as a leader, he had to make sure that everyone arrived in Medina safely.
11:29So he continued to stay in Mecca.
11:32Seeing the potential threat of Muslims becoming a powerful entity in Medina, the disbelievers took a decision.
11:37They agreed that they must solve this issue once and for all by killing the Prophet .
11:43The Prophet, along with Abu Bakr, secretly set out on their journey of migration.
11:48And took refuge in the cave of Thawr to hide from the disbelievers.
11:52As a miracle, Allah appointed two animals.
11:55A spider quickly built a web and the bird made a nest to block the entrance of the cave.
12:00Thinking that they couldn't be inside, the disbelievers turned back.
12:04During the Hijrah, he came close to death several times.
12:08But his master was protecting him.
12:10Allah would later mention this reality in the Quran and say, Allah will protect you from people.
12:15And this would indeed happen.
12:17Surviving multiple assassination attempts throughout his life, he would eventually die in his bed.
12:23When he came out of the cave of Thawr where he was miraculously protected by Allah,
12:28he sadly looked at Mecca and said,
12:30By Allah, you are the best land of Allah and the dearest of the land of Allah to me.
12:35By Allah, had I not been expelled from you, I would never have left.
12:39And continued on his way.
12:42The era of Mecca was now over.
12:45And the era of Medina had begun.
12:47This date was considered the beginning of the Hijri calendar.
12:50He said,
12:51Even if they place the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left hand,
12:55I will never stop defending Islam until either Allah makes it victorious or I die defending it.
13:02The year 623.
13:04After the Hijrah, with the first written constitution in history, the constitution of Medina, the Islamic State was formed.
13:11The year 624.
13:13Islam started to be lived and practiced fully in Medina.
13:17During this period, the first battle of Islam against the disbelievers of Mecca, the battle of Bedir took place.
13:23Compared to the enemy, the Muslim army was much weaker in terms of equipment and their numbers were also much smaller.
13:30Only 313 Muslims fought against the Quraysh army of 1000 men.
13:35At the end of the battle, 70 disbelievers including many prominent leaders of Quraysh, such as Abu Jahal were killed.
13:41And 14 Muslims were martyred.
13:43This marked the first victory of Islam.
13:46And from then on, nothing would ever be the same again.
13:49In the early periods of Medina, the obligatory acts of worship continued to be given too.
13:54Fasting was made mandatory.
13:56The first Eid al-Fitr was celebrated.
13:58Then came another opportunity for blessings, the first Eid al-Adha.
14:02After that, Zakat became obligatory.
14:04In other words, the basic commandments of Islam were being established one by one.
14:09In the first years, the belief in the existence of Allah and his oneness.
14:13The hereafter, the belief in heaven and hell and the purpose of the creation of human beings had been firmly rooted in the hearts of Muslims.
14:20And now the rulings and the acts of worship began to be practiced.
14:24The year 625.
14:26The Battle of Uhud took place.
14:28This was a battle in which the Muslims fought with 700 men and the disbelievers with 3000.
14:34In the beginning, the Muslims were destroying the enemy.
14:37But when the archers left their positions thinking that the battle was over,
14:41the disbelievers made a counter move and the Muslims lost the battle.
14:4570 Muslims were martyred and over 20 disbelievers were killed.
14:49The Lion of Allah, Hamza, who had struggled so hard for the cause of Islam, was among the martyrs too.
14:55Beyond being killed, his body was mutilated out of vengeful feelings.
15:01The year 626.
15:09Wine was flowing like a river in the streets of Medina.
15:12It was because drinking alcohol had just been made haram.
15:15Everyone was pouring all the wine from their homes into the streets.
15:19Even though it was one of the three basic drinks in that society, this was the scene right after the ayah of alcohol prohibition.
15:27When it was impossible even to remove a habit like smoking from a small community,
15:31the fact that the entire Muslim population instantly abandoned wine showed the miraculous power of the Quran in the hearts and minds.
15:38And that its source could only be Allah.
15:42The year 627.
15:44In the Battle of Ahzab, also known as Battle of the Trench,
15:47Muslims fought with the disbelievers that came together from all over Arabia under the leadership of Quraysh.
15:53With an army of about 12,000 men, they came to Medina to wipe out all the Muslims, including the elderly, women and children.
16:02With a different war tactic, the Muslims dug trenches around Medina to defend the city.
16:07This brilliant strategy worked and the disbelievers could not get over the trenches.
16:11Eventually, they had to retreat and the war was won by Muslims.
16:16The year 628.
16:18Muslims had been missing the Kaaba and Mecca for many years and eagerly wanted to make Umrah.
16:23For this purpose, together they set out for Mecca.
16:26But the Quraysh wanted to prevent this.
16:29So, an agreement was signed between them.
16:31The Treaty of Hudaybiyyah.
16:33This was actually the breaking point.
16:35Because although the conditions of the agreement seemed in favor of the disbelievers,
16:39in reality, it would lead to their eventual defeat.
16:42Muslims wouldn't be able to visit the Kaaba that year, but a year later.
16:46Also, there would be a ceasefire between them for 10 years.
16:49Taking advantage of having no conflict with the Quraysh,
16:52Prophet Muhammad continued to spread his message to even more tribes and more nations.
16:57Letters of invitation to Islam were sent to the rulers of the neighboring countries,
17:01starting from the Byzantine and the Sassanid emperors.
17:04Because Islam was not a religion that was sent only to a certain community or a nation,
17:08but to the whole world and to all nations.
17:12The year 629.
17:14After the agreement, the Quraysh prejudice and stubbornness against Islam slowly began to disappear.
17:19Hearts and minds became more and more open to Islam.
17:22In a way, the physical swords were put down and the spiritual diamond sword of Islam conquered the minds and hearts.
17:30Khalid ibn Walid, a military genius from the Quraysh,
17:33could not remain indifferent to these truths and decided to become Muslim.
17:37During this period, the battle of Mu'tah against the Byzantines took place.
17:41When three great commanders like Zayd, Jafar and Abdullah ibn Rawaha were martyred one after the other,
17:47Khalid ibn Walid took over.
17:49And with his genius tactics, the Muslim army gave a very difficult time to the huge Byzantine army that outnumbered them many times over.
17:57After the Byzantines suffered great losses, both sides retreated.
18:01This was the first war between Muslims and Byzantine.
18:04The year 630.
18:06Two years after it was signed, the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah was violated by the disbelievers.
18:12After years of separation, the longing for the Kaaba and Mecca had increased immensely.
18:17And now it was time to put it to an end.
18:20With the hearts of Muslims full of faith behind him,
18:23the Prophet began his preparations for the conquest of Mecca.
18:27The Muslim army, which had increased from 1 to 1000 and now exceeded 10,000 in number,
18:33entered Mecca with great joy and excitement.
18:36This was the most beautiful conquest the world has ever seen,
18:40because Mecca was conquered peacefully without any war.
18:49Then the Prophet issued the declaration of amnesty and said that everyone was forgiven.
18:55This was a mercy and greatness that was unparalleled in world history.
19:00He even forgave those who had martyred his uncle Hamza and butchered his dead body.
19:05Wahshi, who had martyred Hamza, would then accept Islam and then become Wahshi .
19:11Meaning, every Muslim would pray for him saying,
19:14May Allah be pleased with him.
19:16Hind, who ordered Hamza to be killed and chewed his liver would become a companion.
19:21Those who had persecuted the Messenger of Allah in all kinds of ways,
19:25who had insulted him, who had been his vicious enemies,
19:28who had taken pleasure in hurting him, were now forgiven and set free.
19:33Following this, one tribe after the other began to embrace Islam.
19:36Delegations were sent to around 70 tribes and all of them became Muslim.
19:41The lands dominated by Islam were gradually becoming larger and larger.
19:45The year 632. We are now at the last phase.
19:51Our Prophet left Medina for the farewell pilgrimage.
19:55Standing before nearly 100,000 Muslims, he delivered his farewell sermon.
20:00For a moment, I want you to imagine yourself there and listen.
20:05In one part of his sermon, he said these words.
20:08O people, all mankind is from Adam and Eve.
20:12An Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab, nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab.
20:18Also, a white has no superiority over a black, nor a black has any superiority over a white,
20:24except by taqwa, consciousness of Allah, and good action.
20:28The most honored of you for Allah is the one who fears him the most.
20:33He was now 63 years old.
20:35His illness, which had been going on for a few days,
20:38had intensified and his pain started to increase.
20:41It was time for him to meet his Lord.
20:44The longing was finally over.
20:46He left this world and joined the eternal realm,
20:50and met the almighty friend, Rafiq Al-A'la.
20:54In a short period of only 23 years,
20:57the Prophet brought about a change that has never been seen before in the history of mankind.
21:03After him, the father who had buried his daughter alive became afraid of hurting even a fly.
21:09Those who once drew swords against each other became willing to sacrifice their lives for one another.
21:15The nation that had deeply rooted evil customs that was once identified with the word jahiliyyah, ignorance,
21:22was now completely gone and it was as if a totally different people came in their place.
21:28Their morals and character elevated to a level that was set an example for the future generations and for the entire humanity.
21:35In short, the Messenger of Allah turned dark coals into bright diamonds,
21:41and the light he planted in the hearts sprouted, blossomed, grew more and more,
21:47and has reached all the way to us to this present day.
21:51May eternal peace and blessings be upon him.
21:54Amen.
